"Rock hardness is dependent on the type and quantity of the various mineral constituents of the rock and the bond strength that exists between the mineral grains. As the book “The Complete ISRM Suggested Methods For Rock Characterization, Testing and Monitoring:1974-2006” explains, hardness is a concept of material property. As such, the quantitative measure of hardness depends on the type of the test employed.Among the three types of tests that have been used to measure the hardness of rocks and minerals: 1) indentation tests; 2) dynamic and rebound tests; 3) scratch tests, the authors of this paper chose indentation tests, more specifically the Vickers test, and complementary verified the correlation between the results of the Schmidt sclerometer tests (rebound tests) and the Vickers microhardness tests in a set of the same 9 (nine) granite rocks.The objective of this research was to verif y the correlation of one created index, based on the Vickers test that can be able to represent the rock material hardness. We know that Vickers tests determine the microhardness of individual rock minerals. A pyramidal shaped diamond is applied to the surface with a specified force. The area of the permanent residual deformation divided by the applied force is a measure of the hardness. Using the relative participation of the mineral components of the rock, we established a hardness index denominated EVM (Equivalent Vickers Microhardness).The correlation of the EVM with others strength properties and application parameters like UCS (Uniaxial Compressive Strength) to study sawability of granite blocks have presented very good results. The association of equivalent microhardness with others strength parameters, allowed to find powerful algorithms for analyzes of the rock materials behavior under diversified circumstances, as the sawability of granite blocks, as we can see in Fig. 1.Other very interesting correlations were found as the EVM values and that were obtained by the use of the Schmidt impact hammer for the superficial hardness determination."

"The presently increasing world-wide interest in advanced ceramic materials is generally focussed on their exploitation in both structural and functional applications. With the opportunity to engineer microstructures and thereby closely control and tailor the final properties, there are many new applications being made for these materials in both areas.The scope and some of the applications for functional ceramics are reviewed and examples of the present Canadian activity in this field are discussed.BackgroundThere has been progressively increasing international interest in the development and exploitation of ceramic materials in the last five years. The stimulus for this interest arises from several quarters, each of which are independent of the other.• There is a growing awareness of the strategic nature and vulnerability of supply of the raw materials used to produce high performance metal alloys.• The metal alloys are reaching the upper temperature limit for their performance as structural components in engines.• The dramatic increase in oil prices during the late 1970s focussed attention on the need for reduced consumption in many sectors, i.e., there is a need for more efficient engines that operate at higher temperatures - above those tolerated by the present superalloys.• A number of ceramics, especially the structural materials such as SiC, A120 3, AI20rSi02, Si3N4 and the Sialons are produced using non-strategic raw materials and they can exhibit startling performance-auto turbo-rotors are in production mad e of Si3N4 that operate up to 190000 rpm at 600°C, 150000 rpm at 900°C.• Ceramic s are generally of lower density - significant in the weight-reduction of automobiles such as the replacement of a 20-kg five-segment steel leaf spring with a single segment carbon-fibre reinforced unit of 3 kg. • Ceramics also offer major ad vantages in generating, monitoring or controlling the electromagnetic spectrum whether in bulk or thin-film devices that exploit optical, magnetic, pyroelectric, piezoelectric, electronic and I or ionic conductivity characteristics.The opportunity to combine several of these char acteristics in a single material by composition, processing and microstructural design has resulted in an advanced ceramics industry that had world-wide sales in 1980of $4.2 billion (U.S.)(I) and is predicted to grow to sales in the range $7 to $10 billion by 1990 and $16 to $24 billion by the year 2000(2). However, at present, advanced ceramics account for less than 20010 of the total ceramic market."

Samples sourced from the Goldstrike property in Nevada USA, have been evaluated in terms of their preg-robbing capacity and the physical structure of the graphitic carbon component in the carbonaceous gold ore. The study highlights a wide range in preg-robbing capacity between samples collected from the Betze-Post open pit and Rodeo underground mine. The physical structure of the graphitic carbon was assessed using Raman spectroscopy, and is found to play an important role in influencing preg-robbing behaviour. Differences observed in the physical structure of graphitic carbon are thought to be the result of hydrothermal events that occurred at Goldstrike.

Ozone has been proposed to pretreat refractory ores before the cyanidation process for precious metals extraction. As pyrargyrite is one of the silver species most common in Mexican refractory ores, the ozonization of this silver sulfide was studied. The effect of pH and ozone concentration on silver dissolution was evaluated by means of a factorial experimental design. Two levels of sulfuric acid concentration and ozone in gas concentration were evaluated: 0.18 and 0.72 mol/L of acid and 0.054 and 0.077 gO3/L, respectively. The highest silver dissolution was obtained when using the higher acid and ozone concentration.

"Introduction The Saskatchewan Power Corporation is a provincial crown corporation which operates under a mandate to supply all customers within Saskatchewan with electricity and natural gas. The Saskatchewan Power Corporation operates two coal mines within the province of Saskatchewan. The Souris Valley Mine is located a few miles south of the city of Estevan and produces approximately 300 000 Mg of lignite per year. The lignite is shipped about four kilometres by truck and burned at the 882 MW Boundary Dam Power Station, also owned by the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. The Poplar River Mine is located just south-west of the town of Coronach, Saskatchewan which is some 190 kilo metres west of Estevan. This mine produces approximately 1 675 000 Mg of lignite per year. The lignite is shipped seven miles by rail to the Saskatchewan Power Corporation's Poplar River Power Station. The Poplar River Mine is the sole sup plier of fuel to the Poplar River Power Station, which generates some 300 MW of electrical power. A second 300 MW unit is due to be commissioned at the Poplar River Power Station in mid-1983 and the Poplar River Mine will have doubled its capacity to approximately 3 350 000 Mg per year by that time: Souris Valley Mine Geology The Souris Valley Mine extracts lignite from the Estevan seam of the Ravenscrag Formation. This formation is of Tertiary age and was deposited during the Paleocene Epoch. The Ravenscrag Formation outcrops throughout southern Saskatachewan and all coal mined in the province occurs in this formation. Ravenscrag sediments are deltaic in origin and are composed of a series of fine sands, silts, clay and lignite deposits."

As an additive to steel, the versatility of vanadium is particularly impressive. A few hundreds of one per cent of vanadium convert plain carbon steel into high-strength, low-alloy steel with more than double strength. On the other extreme, high-speed steels made via the powder metallurgy route show superior performance with vanadium additions as high as 6 or 8 percent. Vanadium is used as a cost-effective alloying addition in steels for high-temperature service, fully alloyed heat-treatable steels, new dual-phase steels for automotive components, rail steels, etc., to mention only a few applications. Vanadium is also an established essential addition for titanium alloys. The development of specific risk-based methodologies to guide and prioritize clearing decisions in countries contaminated by Unexploded Ordnance and Land Mines (generically defined as Explosive Remnants of War: ERW) either at country-wide scale or road-network-scale was used in an unexpected way when a large mining company asked Riskope (www.riskope.com) to develop a multi-modal transportation network risk assessment plan, which included ocean going vessels, ports, wharves, railroad, trucking and other modes of transportation. What had been a first-in-the-world attempt in the humanitarian landmine clearing industry turned out to be extremely useful and equally innovative in the extractive corporate world. Instead of a country contaminated by man-made hazards such as Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) we were now dealing with a very complex multi-modal transportation system afflicted by all sorts of potential hazards from quakes to climate change, sabotage to labour strikes, and vulnerable infrastructures to potential energy crises. Interestingly enough the method developed to deal with ERW risk based clearing was also capable of solving the transportation risk evaluation problem, after necessary customization. This paper shows how ?out of the box? thinking and industry cross dissemination can bring significant evolution and a competitive edge even to unexpected areas of the world-wide mining industry. The results of the logistic system risk assessment shed new light on the management of the system, changed the way insurance coverage was purchased, and led to significant potential cost reductions in a period of global recession.

This paper describes studies of zinc concentrate oxidizing pressure leaching using the method of mathematical modeling. The concept of a kinetic function was taken as a basis for mathematical modeling of the leaching process. The kinetic function describes dependence of the unreacted component share OJ on the relative time x (the relative time is the ratio of the test duration and the time of complete dissolution). This kinetic function is determined in accordance with the results of batch laboratory tests. The laboratory tests have been carried out on zinc concentrate produced from Kazakhstan zinc-copper ores. Zinc concentrate consisted mainly of three types of minerals: sphalerite (70%), pyrite (13%) and chalcopyrite (10%). Oxidation reactions of sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite have been considered as principal ones. The kinetic characteristics of the process (kinetic function, reaction order, activation energy, duration of complete dissolution of the concentrate components) have been calculated in the course of laboratory tests. The mathematical model was used for estimation of the main technological leaching process parameters (such as process rate, degree of metals extraction, autoclave capacity, heat balance, etc.). Mathematical modeling based on the kinetic function concept allows safe designing of metallurgical equipment and scaling the technology to industrial capacity.

L'industrie minière représente un apport économique important pour le Québec ; cette production est très diversifiée et répartie dans plusieurs régions. Hormis les forges du St- Maurice au XVIIe siècle, l'industrie minière québécoise commence en 1862 dans la Beauce avec l'exploitation de placers aurifères dans les affluents de la rivière Chaudière; à la même époque, on met en production les mines de cuivre Eustis, Albert et Capelton, près de Sherbrooke1; à partir de 1881, les mines d'amiante et de chromite au voisinage d'Asbestos et de Thetford commencent à voir le jour. Dans les années ?20, l'extraction de métaux précieux et usuels débute en Abitibi- Témiscamingue; durant les années '50, le fer et l'ilménite de la Côte Nord, ainsi que le cuivre de Murdochville et Chibougamau, commencèrent à être mis en valeur. Plus récemment, soit durant les années '80, le sel des Iles-de-la-Madeleine et le graphite des Hautes Laurentides s'ajoutèrent aux produits que nous commercialisons. Finalement, soit en 1998, le Québec devenait un important producteur de nickel avec le démarrage de la mine Raglan, au Nunavik. L'exploitation d'une mine peut nécessiter l'extraction de grandes quantités de roches stériles, particulièrement lorsque la production se fait à partir d'une fosse à ciel ouvert. De plus, étant donné que les minéraux et les métaux mis en marché ne constituent qu'une fraction du minerai extrait, il faut le concentrer : on se retrouve alors avec des proportions plus ou moins importantes de résidus finement broyés. Ces deux types de rejets totalisent bon an mal an environ 100 millions de tonnes. Lorsque cela est possible, ceux-ci sont, soit valorisés comme matériaux de construction ou retournés dans leur lieu d'origine afin de soutenir les murs des excavations. Toutefois, une bonne partie est accumulée en surface dans des aires aménagées spécifiquement à cette fin ; comme le montre la figure 1, la superficie utilisée à cette fin a progressé parallèlement aux booms miniers que nous venons de mentionner pour atteindre actuellement environ 15,600 hectares, dont environ la moitié sont situés sur des aires encore en activité.

UV-visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and vibrating tube densimetry have been used in our laboratory to determine equilibrium constants of aqueous species at temperatures as high as 325 °C. The UV-visible and Raman spectra of solutions containing metal complexes and ionized acids or bases can be used to yield formation constants by applying curve fitting methods to resolve the contribution of each species. Colorimetric pH indicators identified by Johnston and coworkers at the University of Texas (Austin) provide an alternative means of determining ionization constants and the pH of complex mixtures. High precision density measurements over the same range yield standard partial molar volumes, which are key parameters for "equations of state" for aqueous species. Examples are given for the copper-ammonia system, simple carboxylic acids, and the iron-sulphate system.

"Risks from political instability and government policies restricting equity ownership, local operations and transfers of payments affect the profitability of foreign mining ventures. More than seat-of-the-pants judgments and old-boy networks are required to anticipate these risks and to take actions appropriate to offsetting them. A system for making political forecasts, called the Prince System, and a series of charts relaying risk s to a production of key minerals will be presented.IntroductionFirm s with extractive operations outside their home country do not have to be told that political stability and government decisions play a big role in the success o f their operations. The takeover of copper firm s in Chile during the Allende administration in 1971 and the recent decision by Venezuela to reduce Reynolds Metals equity share in a smelting operation from 50% to 28% are two examples of hundreds of events that have determined the profitability of extractive operations over the past decade. Both risks and opportunities for international firms seeking to produce and market raw materials are heavily affected by political conditions. While news of political events travel much faster than in the past and host governments are more clever in shaping the risks as well as the opportunities, politics has always been part of the mining business.What has changed is the need to be more systematic in approaching the assessment of political conditions and how it affects business. The increasing costs of extractive operations, the need for long-range planning, the importance of financial arrangements and the world-wide scope of man y firm s' activities require that the assessment be updated continuously and be comparable across different countries and different types of investments. Political risk analysis, the assessment o f macro-political changes and specific governmental decision s on the operations of extractive industries needs to become as systematic and integrated into corporate decision -making as economic analysis has become over the past two decade s."

To the examining engineer, the ever-recurring problem involving the valuation of ore in a prospect presents at different times highly divergent aspects- some entirely physical or mathematical, others essentially personal. The majority of the problems discussed in this paper are obvious to the engineer, and need little elaboration. By the prospector and the general public, however, a number of these questions are often and completely over-looked, or else approached in such a way as to produce final results which are, to say the least, misleading and at times decidedly erroneous. While the purpose of this paper is to deal with prospects or potential mines, many of the problems considered apply equally well to mines with developed ore reserves. As the usual showings on a prospect consist chiefly of a few open-cuts and a limited amount of underground development work, an estimation of the actual ore reserves is a question of minor import, and seldom enters appreciably into an estimation of the probable value of the particular property. The physical valuation of a prospect mainly involves the consideration of such subjects as the general geological features exposed, the strength and type of mineralization, the width and persistence of any associated veins, shear zones, fractures or contact zones, together with the possible grade, size, and continuity of any ore-bodies that may there occur.

"Soil-gas Rn was measured by two types of alpha-particle-track detectors, by emanometry and by counting alpha-activity on Rn-decay-product collectors. Soil samples were analyzed for V by fluorimetric and fission-track methods, their Rn-emanation by decay-product collectors and their total alpha activities with track detectors. The same uranium anomalies were revealed by each method. Fission-track analysis of leaves for V showed only random variations with sampling site, and the Rn emanation of trees and leaves removed from them was barely detectable . The agreement among the other methods is significant, total alpha and collector methods are simple, rapid and useful, and a combination of methods at a site would reveal disequilibrium in the U-decay series if present. Track-Rn measurements are highly reproducible and insensitive to apparatus design and their sensitivity is not enhanced by covering the detectors with thin foil or placing them in large containers.IntroductionIn the past two years , a number of methods of geochemical exploration for uranium have been tested by the authors over the known copper-uranium occurrence at South March, Ontario. This was done partly to compare methods and partly to develop and test new ones. The South march deposit has been described a number of times by others(1,2,3,4). The methods included in this study were the following.Emanometry, Radon in soil gas is measured by pumping the gas into the cell of a scintillation counter or emanometer(5,6). Alpha particles from radon (222Rn) and its decay products (218Po and 214Po) produce scintillations of light in the silver-activated zinc sunphide (ZnS(Ag) covering the walls of the cell. These are counted by a photomultiplier tube and scaler, the count ra sulphide (ZnS(Ag) covering the walls of the cell. With the attainment of high temperatures it becomes possible to process any kind of material (particularly ceramics) in their liquid state. In the plasma spraying process, the material to be sprayed is rapidly heated until it is molten and is propelled by high velocity gases onto a surface where it adheres, to give protective coatings for a wide range of applications. The method could be considered as one of the most versatile and rapid to build up thick deposits (of plastics, metals, ceramics, cermets) and also free-standing artifacts for particular requirements without resorting to lengthy forming and sintering studies. Although plasma spraying is at the production stage in industry, advanced processes have also been developed for economically producing a wide range of new materials. This paper illustrates the benefits of the process and evaluates the challenges it represents.

"While it might seem like heresy to suggest that ""taxation"" can be a source of financing, never the less some generous tax rules can considerably enhance the tax savings pertaining to a particular expenditure or project. A basic tax knowledge, and careful tax planning, can optimize government participation in a project. INTRODUCTIONIn trying to identify sources of financing for a project, ""government"" as a source of funding is normally thought of in terms of government grants, loan guarantees, interest rate buy downs, property tax waivers, hydro subsidies, and so on. Generally, such concessions are somewhat difficult to obtain, especially in the current period of apparent fiscal restraint. One source of government funding which should not be overlooked is the income tax regime, and, at the provincial level, the various provincial mining tax regimes.While the taxpayer would not normally view a tax system as a potential source of government financing, nevertheless various federal and provincial rules applicable to the mining industry can offer attractive tax deductions - and tax savings - with respect to particular expenditures. In fact, it is not unusual for a civil servant to refer to a tax deduction as a tax ""subsidy"". For example, in the right circumstances, the cost of a smelter expansion in New Brunswick would cost the operator only 31 cents on the dollar, with the federal and provincial governments paying for the other 69 cents by foregoing tax revenues (Table I). In a sense, such tax savings could be compared to a government grant equal to 69% of project costs. Of course, not every project expenditure will generate that degree of government funding. The fact of the matter is that the percentages of tax savings attached to different expenditures cover a wide range, depending on a complex mix of factors. The point to understand is that the tax rules can offer some valuable savings, even after tax reform, and that a basic knowledge of the tax rules can yield some fruitful rewards."

Modern surface mines are among the world's largest single consumers of diesel fuel. A typical mine site can consume in excess of 200 million liters of diesel fuel per year. Delivered diesel fuel is not necessarily clean. Depending on the mode of transportation, handling practices and local climate, incoming bulk fuel can contain up to 20 mg/L suspended solid contaminants and also significant quantities of free water, which can amount to substantial quantities ? for a typical mine site 200 to 400 kg of dirt per year. Standard on-board fuel filters are not designed to handle high levels of contamination, and most engine manufacturers have specific fuel cleanliness requirements to ensure reliable engine operation. New developments in fuel injector technology, such as high pressure, common rail injectors require even cleaner fuel. In order to ensure reliable operation, it is therefore recommended to control particulate contamination throughout the entire Diesel supply chain - from the bulk storage on mine sites to the injection systems on-board through the use of particulate filtration and liquid coalescence technologies. In this work, the author introduces a comprehensive approach to contamination control for the entire fuel supply chain, and discusses the benefits of using advanced filtration and separation technologies, with a particular focus on the requirements of modern high pressure, common rail (HPCR) fuel injection systems.

Scorodite samples were synthesized, in adding or without crystal seed respectively by using Atmospheric Scorodite Process (ASP), Hydrothermal Scorodite Process (HSP), and Improved Atmospheric Scorodite Process (IASP) individually; and their crystal structure, crystallinity, morphology, particle size, specific surface area, Fe/As mole ratio, as well as the leaching stability were characterized, aimed to reveal the relationships among the synthesis methods, the compositional and structural properties, and the leaching stabilities of scorodite. The results show that synthesis methods have significant effects on the compositional and structural properties of scorodite. Scorodite samples of high crystallinity, small specific surface area, and low Fe/As mole ratio, possess high leaching stability. The order in the leaching stability of scorodite samples synthesized in this study is as follow: ASP<HSP<IASP. Scorodite particles in the sample synthesized by IASP without crystal seed are in large sizes and of pyramidal morphology enclosed mainly by crystal planes of {111}; and the sample possesses the crystallinity of 84.5%, the particle size (D50) of 28.2 m, the BET specific surface area of 3.72 m2/g, and the Fe/As mole ratio of 1.05; after leaching this sample by using acetate buffer solution of pH 4.95 for 10 days, the total arsenic concentration in the leaching solution is merely 1.14 mg/L.

"The Western Research Centre (WRC) of CANMET operate a unique pilot plant facility where ongoing R&D on coal preparation and mineral processing is conducted. The pilot plant carries out two functions: coal preparation processing using state-of-the art technology and coal-liquid mixture preparation with intensive cleaning circuits that can also be used for mineral processing. In total, the pilot plant includes more than 30 different flowsheet options. The facility is dedicated to small and fine coal, and designed to be flexible and versatile.This paper describes the use of a pilot-scale facility as a research tool for process control development, fine coal beneficiation, development of coal-liquid fuels technologies, development of process models and testing and evaluation of new developments. The pilot plant is used to assist in resource development by evaluating and optimizing flowsheet selection, and producing sufficient samples for utilization tests. The facility is also an important tool for evaluating and testing samples from troublesome circuits of operating plants to find means to optimize and improve recovery, particularly of fines circuits.Detailed examples are given to demonstrate the role of a pilot scale facility in coal preparation R&D, coal industry development and optimization of coal processing operations. These examples include the development of heavy-medium cyclone computer control system, detailed evaluation of beneficiation of a coal deposit with high clay content, development of column flotation, and its role in fine cleaning circuits and treatment of ultra-fines in relation to intensive cleaning, the importance of testing coals in different processes, and cleaning processes influence on coking quality and other utilization applications. The potential of the facility for helping the mineral industry is also described."

"Malcolm Knowles, the famous adult educator once wrote: ""What a challenge we in human resources development face if we are to avoid the obsolescence of our workforce. I can foresee this challenge requiring that we reconceptualize (...) and redefine the role of HRD, away from that of managing the logistics of conducting training activities to that of managing a system of learning resources"".The context in which this was written surrounds the subject of adult education and the need for business and industry to change its approach to the treatment of adults as learners. In explaining what &apos;managing a system of learning resources&apos; means, Knowles refers to line supervisors and managers as the most ubiquitous resources for day-in and day-out employee development. In many organizations training has been largely a staff rather than line responsibility. Even where trainers reported to line management, it was still seen as a staff function performed by a few specialists.This change referred to by Knowles places a much heavier responsibility on line supervisors and managers for the development of their personnel than has traditionally been the case. Managing that change - handing over the responsibility to the line organization - is the supreme challenge for the HRD function.Just why is this change necessary? Because too often, the learner does not effectively use on the job what he or she learned in the classroom. In fact, learners often discard new methods and revert to the older ways. The reason training does not stick is that the systems for training and work management are most often separate entities and while one may support the other, they need to be a single integrated system in order to ensure the transfer to the job effectiveness of training and some real value for the training dollars.Because much training can be wasted, steps have to be taken to ensure that it fulfills its intended purpose. The following text provides background information on the IOC - who they are and where they are located, a definition of functional training, an evaluation of the suitability of this approach for adults in industry, a description of how the program is being implemented at IOC and some observations that have been made as this change is experienced."

Le Camp Minier de Matagami est situé dans la ceinture volcano-sédimentaire Harricana- Turgeon appartenant à la Province du Supérieur, sous-province de l?Abitibi, au Québec. Les gisements de métaux de base polymétalliques sont retrouvés exclusivement dans les deux domaines lithotectoniques comprenant l?association basalte-rhyolite (Matagami-Brouillan et Joutel-Raymond). Tous ces dépôts, à l?exception de ceux de Selbaie, sont de type exhalatif et représentent des dépôts volcanogènes à Zn-Cu, typiques de l?Archéen. Le complexe volcanique de Matagami est constitué principalement de deux phases de volcanisme tholéïtique. Les dacites et les rhyolites du Groupe de Watson, représentent la phase la plus précoce et celles-cis sont recouvertes par la seconde phase qui est constituée majoritairement de roches intermédiares à mafiques intercalées d?horizons felsiques, formant le Groupe de Wabassee. Un sédiment chimique sulfuré, la Tuffite Clef, marque le contact et l?hiatus entre ces deux groupes. Cette tuffite est reconnue à la grandeur du flanc sud du camp minier et représente l?horizon favorable à explorer puisque sa déposition a correwspond à une période d?intense activité hydrothermale. Le complexe volcanique de Matagami est limité au nord et au sud par des bandes sédimentaires orientées est-ouest, connues respectivement sous les noms de Groupe de Matagami et Groupe de Taïbi. Le Complexe intrusif de la Rivière Bell, qui occupe la base du Groupe de Watson, est un complexe lité consistant en une séquence stratifiée gabbroïque avec localement des niveaux stratiformes à concentrations d?oxydes magmatiques, la bordure de ce complexe est marquée par la présence d?un horizon granophyrique. Cette intrusion synvolcanique prétectonique, représente probablement la source de chaleur étant à l?origine de l?activité hydrothermale observée dans les roches volcaniques sus-jacentes. Suite à un levé aéroporté, le camp minier de Matagami a vu le jour en 1956 lors de la découverte du dépôt de Mattagami Lake, un gisement volcanogène de 25.6 millions de tonnes. Depuis ce temps, un total de neuf gisements ont été exploités et un dixième, Bell Allard, est présentement en production. En date du 31 décembre 1999, la production historique du camp s?élevait à plus de 41 millions de tonnes. Cette présentation mettra l?accent sur la géologie des récentes découvertes dans le prolifique camp minier de Matagami. Les ressources publiées pour le dépôt Persévérance sont de 947,000 tonnes titrant 19.12% Zn, 1.37% Cu, 32 g/t Ag et 0.40 g/t Au. Deux autres découvertes, Équinoxe et Persévérance Ouest contibueront à la ressource globale. Les trois dépôts sont situés au niveau de la Tuffite Clef même si les roches sus-jacentes ne sont pas celles typiquement observées dans les autres dépôts du flanc sud. Ces découvertes sont le résultat d?un programme d?exploration ciblé et soutenu, démontrant ainsi la possibilité de découvrir de nouvelles ressources même dans les camps miniers comme Matagami qui ont été explorés intensivement depuis plus d?un demi-siècle.
