O quartzito Taboões é uma fonte potencial de matérias-primas de sílica (areias industriais), e precisa ser adequadamente caracterizado para se definir metodologias de beneficiamento que visem o seu melhor aproveitamento possível. Dois litotipos foram classificados nos quartzitos intemperizados da Formação Taboões presentes em São Joaquim de Bicas – MG: quartzito argiloso e quartzito. A principal diferença entre eles é a abundância relativa de argilominerais. Em uma amostra representativa do quartzito argiloso foram caracterizados quatro tipos de contaminações com auxílio de análises granulométricas e químicas, microscopia (óptica e eletrônica de varredura), e difração de raios-X. Estas contaminações são: incrustações no quartzo; películas de argilominerais e minerais de ferro aderidas ao quartzo; partículas de minerais de ferro liberadas em meio ao quartzito; e partículas liberadas de rochas estranhas ao quartzito. A caracterização realizada é um ponto de partida para se planejar rotas de processamento mineral visando obtenção de matérias-primas para a indústria.

The Japanese government enforced the "Small Domestic Appliances (SDAs) Recycling Law" in 2013. The law targets metals such as Ta, Nd, Dy, Co, and W to be recycled. Considerable amounts of these minor rare metals are mounted on printed circuit boards (PCBs) of the SDAs and/or e-scrap (electric and electronic scraps). Although precious metals and copper can be recovered from the e-scrap in non-ferrous metals smelters, most of the minor rare metals report to the slag in these smelters in non-recoverable forms. These metals are often used in particular types of devices, and therefore it is possible to concentrate them by separating such devices before feeding to the smelters. In previous work we developed technology for "Device Separation" to concentrate several minor rare metals, but some problems remained, such as how to remove the PCBs from e-scrap bodies, and how to detach devices from PCBs after their removal from escrap bodies. This paper proposes a two-stage crushing process in which, firstly, PCBs are removed from the e-scrap body with various crushers, and secondly, devices are detached from the PCBs involving the application of elevated temperatures. It was found that in the first stage, crushers with physically flexible rotating media such as chains, which provide high collision probability with the sample and consume relatively low energy, can quite effectively separate the PCBs from the e-scrap bodies non-destructively. In the second stage, heating was found to be remarkably effective in helping to detach mounted devices from PCBs, also non-destructively. This paper will also discuss the detailed mechanism of the heating effect on the detachment of devices from PCBs.

En la presente investigación busca controlar la dilución del mineral realizando una explotación del tajo con un ancho de minado adecuado (0.6 m) y la selectividad de mineral económico y no económico utilizando el método minado corte y relleno ascendente realizando un análisis comparativo de la evaluación de malla de perforación actual y la evaluación de mallas de perforación nuevas, Tipo 2-1 y Tipo Zig-Zag, donde en esta propuesta se ha obtenido favorables resultados con la malla de perforación implementada puesto que se observa una reducción en el costo de voladura y costo de sostenimiento además de lograr la reducción del porcentaje de dilución.

Phosphate fines (size ≤ 45 μm), from the Red Sea Region, Egypt, were subjected to beneficiation process to recover the phosphorite grains from such fines. The sample is characterized by low P2O5 content (18.78%) associated with gangue minerals such as silica (22.77% SiO2) and carbonate (2.01% MgO) indicating its low grade. Phosphate pre-concentrate was prepared by gravity separation, using Falcon, where 63.37% of the phosphate, with 24.94% P2O5, 1.46% MgO, and 10.54% SiO2, was firstly recovered reducing the mass flow to the subsequent beneficiation process. However, the gravity tailing was the feed for the reverse phosphate flotation using bench scale column flotation where oleic acid was used as a carbonate gangue collector and amylase enzyme as a phosphate depressant. Under the appropriate flotation conditions (0.1% amylase, 5·10−4 mol/dm3 oleic acid, and temp. 30 °C), phospho-concentrate assaying 0.61% MgO, 13.14% SiO2, and 27.85% P2O5 with a P2O5 recovery of 55.45%, was finally obtained without the use of expensive depressants, e.g., phosphoric acid or sodium silicate. A tentative flow sheet for the whole process was postulated.

This paper uses a case study to demonstrate best practices techniques for predicting the contribution of gravity concentration in a gold recovery process flowsheet. The case study was selected as an example of an ore with a marginal gravity gold content, which makes the value of a gravity circuit difficult to quantify. In this instance the value of leveraging a significant knowledgebase of operating gravity circuit performance to support the decision making process was demonstrated. This case study analysis serves as a useful demonstration of best practice methodologies supporting decisions to include or exclude gravity recovery in a gold recovery process flowsheet.CITATION:Giblett, A and Afewu, K, 2015. This report is mainly concerned with the modification and development of a users manual for the Open-Pit Materials Handling Simulator (OPMHS) developed at Penn State. Model Modifications included the introduction of a free-format input, the application of a Weibull random generator, facilities to stochastically simulate shovel-dragline operations, and routines to increase the flexibility in making truck assignments. At the same time, core storage requirements and execution times were minimized and all P.S.U. conventions were removed to allow operation on other computing systems.

"The aim of this work was the study of the effect of the type (Fe3+, Al3+ and Fe3+ and Al3+ mixture) and of the coprecipitant concentration on As5+ removal by ACF. Removal of As5+ using Sodium Dodecylsulfate (SDS) as a collector was studied by Adsorbing Colloid Flotation (ACF) at laboratory scale. The morphology of the precipitate retained in the foam was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS).By comparing the coprecipitant type and concentration studies it could be concluded that As5+ removal in the presence of Fe3+ (160 mg.L-1) alone, or a Fe3+ (80 mg.L-1) and Al3+ (40 mg.L-1) mixture, is equivalently effective (99,9%) and greater than in the presence of Al3+ (80 mg.L-1) alone (97,7%).Through SEM/EDS analyses, it was possible to observe that both morphology and composition of the precipitate produced in the solution and retained in the foam depend on the physico-chemical conditions of the system, that is, on the species present in the solution."

En este trabajo se reseñan los estudios sobre el tema, se busca establecer la manera adecuada de ejecutar la práctica de laboratorio y de evaluar los resultados experimentales, con el propósito de introducir mejoras en el diseño de plantas.

"This paper presents the results of an industrial test using 8 t/d of Baotou concentrate (50% REO) of a clean metallurgical process, which includes: 1. Roasting with H2SO4 at low temperature (220~260 0C) in a batch roasting furnace followed by water leaching to obtain a leach liquor as feed with a yield of >95% RE and Th, recovering F as fluoride, producing a leach residue amounting to 1/3 of an equivalent high temperature residue and containing <0.03% Th and radioactivity < 3×104 Bq/kg compared to the normal high temperature residue containing 0.2-0.3% Th and 1×105 Bq/kg. 2. Separating Th with N1923 and extracting RE by P507 has been completed in mixer-settlers. Test results indicate that the ThO2 product has a purity of > 95% with a yield of 99%, and the RE has a yield of >95%, in which ThO2/REO <5×10-6, and that P507 loaded RE connect straight with separating RE using P507-HCl system. 3. Treatment and multipurpose use of "three wastes" (water, gas and solids) are discussed in some detail."

Modern underground coal mines can be very large, having a total connected load in excess of l5 000 hp. These mines generally have many miles of high-power conveyor belts and 15 or more miles of high-voltage power cables at distribution voltages of 12.47, 13.2, 13.8, or 14.4 kV. The shielded cables used in mine power distribution systems have a significant level of capacitance, on the order of 110 pF/ft. This level of capacitance, in an extensive power distribution system at today&apos;s voltage levels, can cause significant charging currents during a ground fault. This paper addresses the potential detrimental effects of capacitance charging currents during line-to-ground faults in mine power distribution systems. A representative mine power system is modeled, and simulations with faults at various locations are conducted to evaluate the effects of this capacitance on the level of fault current and relay selectivity. This paper also includes results of capacitance measurements made on mine power feeder cables used to validate the simulation model.

The plant and processing site at Porgera has been built on a levelled mudstone ridge about lkm E of the mine. Excavation of 7xl06m3 of soil and rock was necessary to achieve the required area. The exposed mudstone belongs to the Chico Formation and is weak, sheared and readily breaks down by slaking upon exposure. Tectonic uplift and subsequent erosion have produced the present landscape of narrow bedrock ridges, with deep colluvium in the incised valleys. The deep excavation to a maximum of 60m, has rapidly unloaded the mudstone, and subsequent stress relief has caused rebound and dilation of the material. The processes of pore pressure equilibration, softening, progressive failure and loosening, combine to deteriorate the newly exposed rock mass. Batu Hijau is an island arc porphyry copper-gold deposit located in the southwest corner of Sumbawa Island in the Sunda-Banda archipelago of Indonesia. Southwest Sumbawa Island is underlain by Early Tertiary, low-K calc-alkaline to weakly alkaline volcanic and intrusive rocks. Within the mine area the oldest exposed rocks are medium- to thick-bedded, medium to coarse andesite volcanic lithic breccia, thin bedded, fine-grained volcaniclastic sandstones and mudstones and hypabyssal porphyritic andesite. In the eastern portion of the mine area there is a thick sequence of quartz diorite that postdates the andesites. A small stock of Equigranualar Quartz Diorite predates the Batu Hijau deposit and occupies the contact between the andesitic volcaniclastic sequence of rocks and the Porphyritic Quartz Diorite. Batu Hijau is a world-class copper-gold deposit that has a drill indicated mineable reserve of 914 million metric tonnes grading 0.525 per cent copper (10.58 billion pounds copper) and 0.403 g/t gold (11.8 million ounces gold). Mineralised material not in reserve accounts for an additional 580 million metric tonnes at 0.328 per cent Cu (4.19 billion pounds copper) and 0.171 g Au/T (3.19 million ounces gold), and including an oxide copper resource of 57 million tonnes at 0.37 per cent Cu and 0.12 g Au/T. Copper and gold mineralisation is directly related to quartz veining and wall rock alteration that developed with multiple tonalite porphyry intrusions. The tonalites were emplaced along the contact between the andesitic volcaniclastic rocks and quartz diorite intrusives. Copper and gold are zoned around the porphyry intrusions, which are designated by their contact-age relationships and other features as Old Tonalite, Intermediate Tonalite(s), and Young Tonalite(s). The Old Tonalite was the first copper-bearing intrusion, and although it is the smallest intrusion it has the highest quartz vein density, the strongest alteration and the highest grade. At least two tonalite porphyry intrusions followed the emplacement of the Old Tonalite. Each of these intrusions was associated with less quartz veining, weaker hydrothermal alteration and lower grade copper and gold than the previous intrusion. The intrusive cycle culminated with the emplacement of the Young Tonalite, which contains relatively few quartz veins, is weakly altered and mineralised. Hypogene hydrothermal alteration and sulphide mineralisation developed in five temporally and spatially overlapping stages. These stages consist of Early, Transitional, Late, Very Late, and I Zeolite alteration. Early alteration and sulphide mineralisation accompanied each tonalite porphyry intrusion, but with diminished intensity in each subsequent intrusion. Transitional and later stages of alteration and mineralisation postdate the tonalite porphyries and overprint Early stage alteration and mineralisation. Early alteration and mineralisation consisted of biotisation, secondary magnetite and plagioclase development, fine porphyry-style stockwork veining and ore mineralisation. Magnetite-biotite????quartz stringers and dark micaceous (biotite-sericite) veinlets were developed. The veinlets were accompanied by biotisation of magmatic mafic minerals and groundmass. Thin, irregular and discontinuous æAÆ type quartz veinlets and fine-grained chalcocite, digenite and bornite mineralisation accompanies the Early alteration. It is hypothesized that most of the copper mineralisation was originally deposited as bornite, digenite and chalcocite. Secondary plagioclase was added along the selvages of the early quartz veinlets. Early alteration is pervasive within and proximal to the tonalite porphyries. In the distal portions of the deposit, andalusite and anthophyllite formed at intermediate to shallow depths, and in the deeper portions of the deposit, respectively. The andalusite and anthophyllite probably developed at the same time as the early magnetite-biotite-quartz alteration in the core of the deposit. Transitional-age alteration consists of oligioclase/albite-sericite-chlorite- quartz-¦vermiculite and is associated with æBÆ quartz veins. Through-going planar æBÆ veins are thicker than æAÆ and æA-familyÆ veinlets and have chalcopyrite????bornite along vuggy centrelines and narrow oligioclase????albite alteration envelopes. Rare æCÆ chalcopyite¦quartz veinlets were also formed during Transitional alteration. During Transitional alteration early copper sulphide minerals (chalcocite, digenite and bornite) are converted to bornite and chalcopyrite. The majority of the copper (50 - 70 per cent) in the deposit is contained in ores in which chalcopyrite is the predominant sulphide. Late alteration consists of feldspar destruction and replacement by sericite and other minerals. The late alteration is accompanied by the development of æDÆ sulphide veinlets and veins. These veins consist of pyrite and quartz????chalcopyrite. Within the halos of the late pyritic veinlets biotite is replaced by sericite, quartz-sericite, quartz-andalusite, or quartz-pyrophyllite+kaolinite replace plagioclase, and magnetite is converted to specularite and/or pyrite. In the periphery of the deposit, the feldspar destructive alteration, together with outer zones of Transitional-age alteration, constitutes what is commonly referred to as a æpropylitic zoneÆ. Very Late hydrothermal alteration is also characterised by feldspar destruction, but differs from Late alteration in that feldspar is replaced by smectite in association with sericite and chlorite. Sulphide mineralisation in this stage consists of sphalerite, galena, tennantite, pyrite and chalcopyrite. The last stage or I Zeolite alteration consists of low-temperature, open space filling consisting of stilbite or laumontite¦calcite. Supergene oxidisation of the orebody extends to a maximum depth of 210m. Isolated deep oxidation occurs along open fracture zones to depths of ~400 metres along æDÆ vein filled fracture zones. Weak supergene copper enrichment occurs in a thin horizon (15 to 60 m thick) that blankets the top of the deposit. The main supergene copper mineral is secondary æsootyÆ chalcocite replacement of sulphide grains and as veins.

Aspects of blast vibrations, damage mechanisms and the influence of rock quality on damage severity are reviewed and results presented from a monitoring programme in which the rock mass rating for six tunnels was determined. The peak particle velocity induced in the tunnels during open-pit blasting was measured and the tunnels were inspected visually for fresh damage after each blast. The results suggest that the quality of rock in which an excavation is situated has an influence on the level of ground vibration to which it can be subjected without sustaining damage. This means that the use of a single limiting value of peak particle velocity, as in the blast damage criteria for residential structures, is not ideal and may result in damage to excavations in poorer-quality rock masses
