This paper shows how small calculators can be used for ball mill simulations. Two calculations are examined, the first to calculate the mill parameters and the second to predict the mill product. In the case of small programmable calculators the programs for two common models are given.

In the 25 years since Broken Hill's 75th Anniversary which was marked by an Australasian Institute and Mining and Metallurgy Conference in Broken hill, there have been some significant changes in the role of mines inspectors. This paper updates the information given by the then Chief Inspector of Mines, J.H. Burford, to that 1968 Conference, with an emphasis being placed on mines inspection, although it also reflects changes to mining legislation and regulatory bodies.

Reliability is not only important in coal mine planning, production and control. Reliability is also most important, and indeed is fundamental, to successful coal exporting.Coal preparation, blending, distribution, marketing and utilisation are areas of the coal industry in which reliability can be critical to coal exporting. Major elements of reliability which impact on coal exporting include coal quality, supply performance, -coal ownership changes, governmental regulations and policies, market reputations and differences in export markets.

It is argued that the capture of par- ticles by bubbles is primarily caused by hydrophobic ("structural") attraction forces. Neither dispersion forces nor double-layer forces can account for hydro- phobicity, though the latter are known to influence the kinetics of capture. The recent experiments of Israelachvili and Pashley (Nature, 300: 341-342, 1982) with hydrophobic mica plates provide the first measurements of the range and magni- tude of hydrophobic interaction forces.

SLon magnetic separators utilise the combined force fields of magnetism, pulsating fluid and gravity to continuously beneficiate fine weakly magnetic minerals. They possess the advantages of high efficiency, low operative cost and high reliability. Until now there were about 600 SLon magnetic separators widely applied in processing oxidised iron ores, ilmenite, manganese ore and many other minerals. In this paper, several typical oxidised iron processing flow sheets with SLon magnetic separators are introduced.

Another way is to compare the legislation with principles of good safety practice. Mine safety legislation contains many features that are widely accepted, and these should be examined critically to determine their importance. More importantly, it will focus on developments in our law either through legislative change and cases which have dictated trends. The Kalkadoon Granite is regarded as composite in character with at least two different phases. The older phase is considered older than the sediments of the Western Geosyncline, and the younger phase is considered younger than the sediments of the Western Geosyncline.Consequently, the older phase could be a time equivalent of the Ewen Granite, whereas the younger phase could not. An age of 1760 million years seems plausible for the older phase, and an age of 1540 millionyears seems appropriate for the younger phase.
