We tried to convert paper sludge ash (PSA) into zeolitic product with high cation exchange capacity (CEC) through acid leaching. Typically, PSA from incineration of paper sludge contains a high percentage of calcium in the form of anorthite (CaAl2Si2O8) and gehlenite (Ca2Al2SiO7). It is difficult to convert the ash with a high Ca content into zeolites, or at least into more desirable zeolite phases. Acid leaching with HCl was applied to reduce the Ca content to synthesize zeolitic product with high CEC. The raw ash was treated with 1 M, 3 M, and 5 M HCl solution for 0.5~24 hours (the ratio of the ash to volume of HCl solution was 1/4), and then zeolitic product was synthesized from leached ash through the reaction with 2.5 M NaOH solution at 80 oC for 24 hours. During acid leaching, gehlenite is readily dissolved in a lower HCl concentration solution than anorthite. With increasing HCl concentration, the amounts of Ca, Mg, Si, Al, Fe and Ti extracted from the ash increased. Ca and Mg contents were easily extracted from ash than other elements. The contents of Ca and Mg extracted rapidly at initial stage, and then levelled off. The saturation times of Mg and Ca are almost 0.5 h using all concentrations of HCl solutions. After the synthesis from leached ashes, zeolite-A and -P were synthesized from ash leached in 1 M HCl solution, and 3 M and 5 M HCl solutions, respectively, regardless of leaching time. With in-creasing HCl concentration, the Ca content eluted from the product decreased, due to the removal of Ca via acid leaching before the synthesis, while the Na content eluted from the product increased to 3 M HCl and then decreased, which was almost similar to the CEC of the product, due to the ion exchange of Na-type zeolitic phase in the product. The change of zeolite phases in the product and the CEC of the product depend on the concentrations of Si and Al in the solution during the synthesis. The highest CEC of the product is about 220 cmol/ kg, which was synthesized from the ash leached in 3 M HCl solution.

The development of surface charge of serpentine mineral and implications for sulphide ?otation have been studied through flotation tests, sedimentation tests, zeta potential measurements and optical microscope photos. The results show that the serpentine mineral was positively charged at an extensive pH range, with an isoelectric point (IEP) of 11.9. The magnitude and sign of the pyrite particles were pH dependent and were negative for pH values above 2. At pH value 9, where ?otation of nickel sul?de ores is routinely performed, serpentine and pyrite particles attract through an electrostatic mechanism. Slime coatings of serpentine adhere to the surface of pyrite, reducing pyrite flotation recovery. The removal of magnesium ions from the serpentine surface by acid leaching results in a decrease of serpentine IEP and eliminates the adverse effect of serpentine on pyrite flotation. Therefore, it has been clearly established that the surface charge value developed in the serpentine/aqueous electrical interface is a function of the serpentine surface incongruently dissolution. As a result of hydroxyl dissolution, the magnesium ions are left in serpentine surface, which is responsible for serpentine surface charge. The methods, which can remove magnesium ions from serpentine surface, can be used to eliminate the adverse effect of serpentine on pyrite flotation.

"The purpose of the study is to study the feasibility of using sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphinate (DDP) to enhance the recovery of platinum group elements from low-grade refractory copper-nickel ores characterized by a portion of nickel and platinum group elements (PGEs) locked in the dominant sulfide mineral — pyrrhotite. These ore characteristics dictate the need to produce a bulk PGE-containing sulfide concentrate due to the difficulties of producing selective concentrates without a significant loss of the metals.New data on the adsorption and flotation performance of DDP-containing collectors were obtained by measuring the electrode potential, hydrophobicity of the sulfide mineral surfaces and by means of extraction spectrophotometry and flotation studies. The interaction between DDP, pyrrhotite, and pentlandite leads to the formation of surface hydrophobic layers consisting mainly of disulfide and a small amount of metal compounds. These adsorption layers are formed by the reaction with butyl xanthate. In the case of cooperite, DDP reacts with the surface, forming not only disulfide, as in the case of butyl xanthate, but also a complex platinum compound. DDP-containing agents demonstrate stronger collecting properties with respect to sulfide minerals of copper-nickel ores compared to butyl xanthate, which is explained by a stronger hydrophobizing effect and foaming properties.The addition of a combination of DDP-containing agents and butyl xanthate at a ratio of 3:1 for the recovery of sulfides and PGEs in the bulk flotation of copper-nickel ore made it possible to improve the recovery of Ni, Pt, and Pd by 13.6, 9.2, and 9.4%, respectively, relative to the recovery achieved in flotation with butyl xanthate.Bulk flotation with the addition of a composition of DDP-containing agents and butyl xanthate allows the most complete recovery of all valuable elements and is the only technologically feasible method for processing of lowgrade ores, when it is impossible to produce without loss high-grade selective concentrates suitable for smelting."

Reverse froth flotation experiments were carried out in the laboratory using two different types of kaolins for the separation and removal of coloring titanoferrous impurities from cryo-filtered clay after subjecting to high shear pre-treatment. This high shear pre-treatment consists of high shear agitation of a high solids clay slurry with the dispersant (high shear dispersion, HSD) followed by high shear agitation with the collector (high shear conditioning, HSC). After this pretreatment, the slurry is diluted and reverse flotation is carried out. One sample is from, Gujarat, India (Mamuara clay, ?MC?) while the 2nd sample is from Amberg, Germany (AKW clay, ?AC?). While MC consisted of 89% particles below 2µm and analyzed 1.06% of TiO2 and 0.29% Fe2O3 and measured a brightness of 83.4 %ISO, the corresponding values for AC are 67% below 2µm, 0.3% of TiO2? 0.49% Fe2O3 and 83.4 %ISO. The flotation performance is found to be greatly influenced by the conditions of high shear treatment. Important variables are HSD intensity (rpm), HSD time, HSC intensity (rpm), HSC time, HSD/HSC time ratio, ?HSD+HSC? total time etc. Higher shear intensities favor both the impurity liberation and collection. For both clays, it could be shown that impurity removal increases as total pretreatment time (?HSD +HSC? total time) increases up to a certain limit. For MC, the HSD time was only half or less than that of HSC time, while for AC, HSD time is at least twice (or more) than HSC time which is just an opposite manifestation. This is believed to be due to the striking differences between these two clays. Most importantly, the shear frequency is found more influential than the shear rate for the overall flotation performance for both clays. Interestingly, at high shear frequencies, i.e., when a stirrer with more number of teeth on the rotor is used, the ?HSD+HSC? total time is greatly reduced. Again, increased shear frequency helps to reduce flotation time and significantly improves flotation performance. At optimum conditions, product titania reduced to 0.35% for MC whereas the same reduced to 0.13% for AC. The product of flotation of MC measured 85%ISO brightness while that of AC measured84.6%ISO thus enhancing the value of the final product. It could also be established that the high shear pre-treatment shows better flotation performance than that due to collector dosage. This paper describes results of laboratory studies on recovery of dissolved uranium values from alkaline leach slurries of a medium-grade uranium ore from Gogi (Karnataka, India) using the resin-in-pulp (RIP) process. Besides anionic carbonate complex of uranium, the other major ionic constituents of the leach solution are CO32-, HCO3-, SO42- and MoO42-. The total dissolved solutes (TDS) are about 45 g/L. Various commercially available strong bases anionic resin-in-pulp (RIP) grade resins ? both macroporous and gel type, were studied with respect to their loading capacity. Parametric variation studies were then carried out with the short-listed resins. Results of the semi-continuous counter-current extraction and elution tests indicated extraction efficiency of about 98% and practically complete elution of the loaded uranium values with NaCl eluant using a gel type polystyrene based resin grafted with quaternary ammonium ion. In Pt- and Au-keeping complex ores processing, about 10% ~ 15% of noble metals are lost with true tailings that are due to low floatability of Pt- and Au-keeping minerals by the conventional collectors. With the aim to achieve the effective recovery of noble metals at flotation of Pt-Cu-Ni and Au-keeping ores organic complex reagents keeping electron-donating atoms of nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur or phosphorus may be offered as selective collectors for the indicated minerals. These rea-gents tend to form complex compounds with PGM. Besides this, Cu-Ni-Pt and complex Pt and Au carbonated mica ores are characterized by finely disseminated (up to nanometer size) mineral forms of Pt in multivalent states. In this connection, the use of a combination of the strong ionic collectors with nonionic reactants that are capable to derivate complex compounds with multivalent PGM seems to be expedient for this type of ores. In the research new complex reactants were tested such as cyclic alkylene-trithiocarbonates, oxyalkyl butylxanthogen acid ethers, a combination of the collectors ? mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and dialkyldithiophosphates (DTP). Sorption and flotation tests were made with monomine-ralic samples of chalcopyrite, pentlandite, pyrrhotite, pyrite, and Pt-Cu-Ni sulfide ore samples. Sorption properties were examined by the extractive UV spectrophotometric method and potentiometric measurements. To indicate a structure of modified xanthate solutions the method of a thin-layer chromatography (TLC) was applied. The chromatographic behavior of the basic components of modified xanthate solution ? ButX, cyclic propylene-trithiocarbonate (PTTC), diethyl-dithiocarbamate (DEDC) and the product of its modification ? oxypropyl-S-ether of dithiocarbamatic acid was studied on plates ?Silufol UV ? 254?. The composition of organic solvents and its ratio in a mobile phase was deter-mined for simultaneous chromatography of the main components of a reaction mixture. It was found that operating selectivity of MBT, DTP and cyclic alkylene-trithiocarbonates incorporated in modified xanthate in relation to Pt-Cu-Ni and Au-containing sulfide minerals might be explained by an electoral sorption of this nonionic collector on a surface of the minerals studied. It was demonstrated that the application new reagent modes with the use of a combination of designed complex reactants helped to increase the extraction index of Pt- and Au-keeping minerals from complicated ores.

Stirred milling of laterites offers possibilities for improving liberation and selective size reduction of soft nickel-bearing minerals in laterites. Batch grinding tests were performed in a Netzsch LME4 stirred mill on a siliceous goethitic (SG) nickel laterite sample (-2000 µm particle size) to evaluate the effect of operating conditions such as stirrer speed, grinding time, pH, solid content, water salinity and charge volume. The target was to produce a -38 µm fraction in the milling product with high nickel recovery and grade. Addition of dispersant (sodium hexametaphosphate) was also optimized with respect to the rheology of the slurry. In terms of stress intensity, the optimum grinding conditions for selective size reduction were: 1000 rpm, 50 per cent charge volume. At higher stress intensity (2000 rpm), Ni recovery in the -38 µm product was higher, but Ni grade was low, due to the breakage of the harder siliceous particles. Decreasing the yield stress by modifying slurry pH or adding dispersant improved the rheological properties of the pulp, but had no great influence on Ni upgrade in the fine product. Modifying water salinity by adding 2 M NaCl had also little effect. The breakage of the +38 µm particles in the feed determined Ni upgrade greatly. Ni grade in the -38 µm product decreased with grinding time, suggesting that the Ni-bearing minerals break first, while the harder siliceous minerals have a lower breakage rate. The breakage rates with respect to sample mass for Ni, Mg and Si indicate that: Mg > Ni > Mass > Si. The optimum grinding time for the highest Ni upgrade was 0.25 min. The Ni grade increased from 0.88 per cent to 1.35 per cent (upgrade 54 per cent), with 24 per cent Ni recovery. Keywords: fine grinding, stirred media mill, nickel laterite, slurry rheology

A good deposit of high sulphur coals of tertiary origin is existent in North eastern region of India. These coals are known to have indifferent characteristics in comparison to other Indian coals. The general Physico-chemical characteristics are low ash and high volatile matter, calorific value and sulphur content. Sulphur in these coals (70-95% of organic) is mostly affixed to the structure of the coal. Owing to the stringent environmental regulations, the utilization of these coals has severe limitations due to high sulphur content. In the present investigation, sulphur incorporation in to these coals has been discussed along with possible organic sulphur functionalities. The various desulphurization techniques carried out for removing sulphur from these coals have been discussed. Two step oxidative desulphurization processes has been found to be most efficient for organic sulphur removal along with mineral matter and potential toxic elements. Fly-ash was used as adsorbent to remove butyl xanthate from aqueous solution in this study. Adsorption kinetics investigation reveals that the adsorption process abides by the Lagergren-second-order Kinetic Model, and fine fly-ash prepared by grinding has a higher second-order adsorption rate as 1.25 g/mg?min and a higher saturated adsorption amount as 10.92mg/g. Four influencing factors as adsorption temperature, solution pH, consumption of fly-ash and adsorption time were investigated. Testing results indicate that butyl xanthate removal rates declines slightly with the temperature increase within the range of 15-50?, increases slightly when pH rises from 7.27 to 8.01 and then declines from 99.65% to 98.25% when pH rises from 8.01 to 11.10. An enhancement of removal rates can be observed by increasing the consumption of the adsorbing agent or prolonging the adsorption time. Thermal desorption was adopted to regenerate the used fly-ash, and test results show that fly-ash possess good regeneration performance and could be used as adsorbent repeatedly with little influence on the adsorption capacity.

Reaction kinetics of serpentine and hydrochloric acid is theoretical basis for optimizing reaction process conditions of serpentine and hydrochloric acid. Kinetics of serpentine and hydrochloric acid was studied in this paper. The results indicated that apparent reaction order to hydrochloric acid was two and reaction kinetic equation could be expressed as: 2HClHCl,ddtckct-=·. The diffusion rates of hydrogen ions in liquid film on surface of serpentine particle and in amorphous silica layer generated in the reaction and chemical reaction velocity during the reaction had important effects on to-tal reaction velocity. And chemical reaction velocity had the most significant influence. The relation of conversion rate of magnesia xMgO with reaction time could be expressed as: 1(1)xkt--=·.

"There is abundant rare-earth element(REE) in our country, but it is very fragmented in the earth's crust, and it is very difficult to mining or mining cost is extremely high. There are few of industrial value rare-earth deposits. There is a lot of concomitant rare-earth deposits, and the comprehensive utilization value is high. There is very rich carlin-type gold resource, associated with a certain amount of REE in the southwest of Guizhou province. In order toutilize comprehensively the resources, this paper conducts the study on the occurrence characteristics of REE in the ore. By the chemical analysis, the gold grade is 3.35g/t, the organic carbon 0.81%, the total REE 0.022%, which is a high carbon fine disseminated gold ore. By the optical microscope and XRD analysis, the major minerals are quartz, pyrite, calcite, limonite, arsenopyrite, mica, kaolinite, clay minerals, etc. In addition, there is a large amount of carbonaceous materials, such as organic carbon, graphite, which is harmful on leaching of gold. By the scanning electron microscopy analysis, there are thorium, lanthanum and neodymium, ytterbium, persimmon and other REE in the ore. Gravity separation shows that REE could be enriched to lighter material mainly, which indicates that REE disseminate closely with lighter materials.INTRODUCTION Carlin-type gold ore is important gold resource in the world, which are mainly distributed in Nevada and its vicinity, as well as the two Golden Triangle of Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Sichuan, Shanxi, Gansu province in China(Su W.C. et al.,2009; Xia G.X.,1996).Guizhou carlin-type gold ore is the second largest gold resource in the world(Muntean J L et al.,2011), distributing along the southwestern margin of the Yangtze plate, mainly mineralizing in the neopaleozoic-early mesozoic(Xie Z J et al.,2017). Many large gold deposits have been found in southwest in Guizhou in twentieth century, such as Zimuyou,Getang, Lannigou, Shuiyindong and Laowanchang gold deposit, and so on, and the gold reserves reach over 100 tons(Xia Y. et al.,2009).There is a certain amount of rare-earth resource in the carlin-type gold ore in the southwest in Guizhou province, and the current researches might mainly focus on characteristics of REE from the angle of geological mineralization(AnanyevY.,2015), not from the angle of separation and enrichment."

Waste water produced from coal preparation plants posses several problems during dewatering and solid/liquid separation. The natural sedimentation rate of the particles present in colloidal and finely divided suspended form is very slow. Flocculation technology is being applied in most of the coal washeries to recover water which is being accomplished through the use of inorganic salts, polymeric flocculants or both depending on the chemical and physical characteristics of the pollutants present in the waste water. The waste tailing water from Piperware coal preparation plant, Central Coalfield Limited (CCL), India, is highly turbid containing ~ 16000 NTU with negative surface charge in the pH range of 2 to 10. Polymeric flocculants in conjunction with fine magnetite is investigated to achieve faster settling rate with lowest level of water turbidity. The conditions affecting the interaction between the reagents and the turbid particles present in the tailings water are investigated. It is possible to bring down the turbidity of the water to < 90 NTU from very high turbid tailing water by using 2 mg/L of the polymeric flocculent in combination with 0.1 g/L of magnetite at natural pH of the tailing slurry. It has been found that finely divided positively charged magnetite particles in combination with the flocculent selectively coat the negatively charged impurities present in water and thereby increase the settling rate under the influence of a magnetic field.

Loussavaara-KiirunavaaraAB?s (LKAB) iron ore mine, Kiirunavaara, is of magnetite type and associated with apatite, a calcium phosphate mineral. Rare earth elements (REE) have been found in connection with the apatite but also in other minerals. An apatite concentrate was produced by flotation, in order to investigate the possibilities to extract REE from the apatite by hydrometallurgical means. The content of rare earth elements calculated as oxides (REO) was 0.44% in the concentrate. Initially, leaching was done with large excess of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid to study the REE solubility with different acids. In sulfuric acid, the leaching recoveries of the different REE varied between 35% and 69%. The reasons for the relative low recoveries, were that the rare earth elements precipitated together with huge amounts of gypsum, that was formed during leaching. However, both hydrochloric- and nitric acid gave almost complete extraction of the REE into solution. Analysis of the small leaching residue obtained, revealed, that mainly the light REE remained in the residue indicating that a small part of the light REE were present in the concentrate, in some acid, insoluble mineral other than apatite. With the aim to separate the REE from the phosphoric acid, the solutions from hydrochloric- and nitric acid leaching were neutralized to a pH of approximately 2 with ammonia. During neutralization, REE were precipitated as phosphates with good recoveries and a concentrate of 10.5% REO suitable for further upgrading was obtained, while the remaining solution can be used for fertilizer production. In further solvent extraction studies, it was shown, that after re-dissolution the REE could be effectively extracted by Cyanex 923, thus allowing for purification from calcium and phosphate ions. Bentonite is an excellent sealant mineral material because of its desirable swelling and self-healing characteristics, low permeability, sorptive qualities, and longevity in nature. A new type of water-swelling building sealant made from bentonite was studied in this paper. The building sealant is prepared by Na-base bentonite, vaseline and paraffin wax under different mass fraction of bentonite (which is 60%,65%,70% respectively). Under unrestricted state, some properties of samples were investigated. The volume expansion ratio at 24 h is 211%, 222%, 256% , and permeability coefficient is 2.86×10-8 cm/s, 4.15×10-8 cm/s and 4.78×10-8 cm/s respectively; low temperature flexibility of the sample (bentonite quality is 65%, 70% respectively) is good, and it does not flow heated for 2 h under 80?. The results of XRD and SEM indicate that bentonite is coated preferably by vaseline, and the spacing of layers of bentonite do not changed. The sample can keep full water swelling ability, and has good molding process. The test results prove that the properties of samples may reach the standard of building sealant.

Ore characterisation including mineralogy and beneficiation testwork of an ore is very important for determination of possible products and their quality. The results of such study help in ascertaining the beneficiation process route for the ore. The present study deals with ore characterisation study and beneficiation testwork on the samples of hematite iron ore with goethite impurity. The characterisation study reveals that the hematite is under alteration stage to goethite which has become an integral part of hematite. High goethite/limonite content is enhancing the loss of ignition content of the ore and reducing its Fe content. The findings indicate that in case of hematite iron ore associated with goethite and limonite, it is difficult to achieve high grade of concentrate above 65% Fe. It depends on the amount of goethite and limonite minerals and their association with hematite. These minerals contain aluminous impurities and hence, their rejection becomes essential. Separation of limonite and of goethite to limited extent is possible. In case of goethite, effective liberation is not achieved where it occurs as surface alteration product of hematite grains. The gangue mineral reported are clay and gibbsite, and are closely associated with iron minerals. The test work results indicate the grade and recovery of Fe along with alumina and silica content in lumps, sinter fines and pellet feed fines that can be achieved for the different ore types vis-a-vis the percent of available hematite in the ore. The recovery of iron is dependent on the hematite available and the loss of iron values in tailings is more because of rejection of limonite and goethite.

Melting has become a popular pre-treatment method for municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration residues in Japan. Although the method is effective in stabilizing the hazardous organic sub-stances such as dioxin, it concentrates the heavy metals such as Zn, Pb, Cu, and Cd in a newly formed fly ash (melting fly ash). Melting fly ash is classified as a hazardous waste because of the leaching potential of these heavy metals in landfill environment. Extraction and recovery of these metals seem to be more environmentally and economically attractive than disposing the material to landfill after immobilization process. This study proposes a Carrier-in-Pulp (CIP) method as a new hydrometallurgical route to reject and recover heavy metals from fly ash. In this method, a carrier material which recovers the extracted metals is added simultaneously with fly ash to leaching solutions and is harvested from the pulp by physical separation method like magnetic separation or sieving. To demonstrate the effect of CIP method, shaking flask experiments were conducted under various conditions using NaCl solution as lixiviant and iron powder or granular activated carbon as carrier materials. In the CIP method using iron powder, more than 97 wt% of Pb and Zn were extracted from the ash to the solution phase. However, the iron powder which was harvested from the pulp by magnetic separation, recovered only Pb (more than 94%) through cementation, leaving behind Zn ions in the solution phase. Due to this problem, granular activated carbon (GAC) was considered as an alternative carrier material. Single- and multi-metal adsorption experiments using granular activated carbon were conducted as a preliminary study. Around 85% Pb and 88% Zn were recovered by GAC in the single-metal adsorption experiment, while 60% Pb and 70% Zn in the multi-metal experiment. These results showed that activated carbon was superior to the iron powder since it was able to recover both Pb and Zn through adsorption. The leaching test conducted on the residue after the CIP-Fe treatment revealed that the solubilisation of Pb was successfully suppressed to meet landfilling guidelines.

Bottom ash is a solid waste stream in a Waste-to-Energy (WTE) processing plant during the combustion of the municipal solid waste (MSW). In the Netherlands, bottom ash contains typically about 18% metals originated from the MSW, and current industrial practice could recover about 10% metals through magnetic and eddy current separators. The remaining 8% as the finer particles is difficult to recover through current physical separation technology. Among various alternatives, vitrification is one of the promising options to immobilize the ash and recover the remaining metals. During vitrification a homogeneous glassy slag and a Fe-Cu based alloy were obtained. In the cur-rent study, the metal alloy recovered from the bottom ash originated from a Dutch Waste-to-Energy plant contains about 82 wt% Fe, 12 wt% Cu and 6 wt% other alloying elements and impurities such as C, S, P, Ni etc. The generated alloy does not have direct commercial applications, and separation of copper from iron-based alloy is critical to obtain the market value of both copper and ferrous constituents. To find a suitable processing route of this metal alloy, various alternative approaches have been considered for an efficient removal of copper from the alloy, and the focus in the present study was on the sulphide treatment at elevated temperatures of 1400 ~ 1500oC. The tested sulphide systems include pure FeS, FeS containing sulphide mixture (such as Na2S and Al2S3), pyrite (FeS2) mineral, ZnS containing sludge as an industrial waste. It was found that the carbon saturation of the alloy is proved to be an essential condition for a proper phase separation. The results showed that FeS mixed with Na2S, ZnS containing sludge and pyrite are effective sulphide systems for copper removal with a removal efficiency of 92% by using pyrite and 95% by zinc sludge at a S/Cu ratio of around 7 times of the stoichiometry. The copper content drops from 12 wt% to about 2 wt%. However, it is still difficult to remove copper completely from the alloy in a single step, and a multi-step operation is needed. The present research is expected to contribute both to the utilization of the metal recovered from bottom ash, and to the general recycling of steel scrap where copper removal from the steel scrap is a critical issue.

With shortage of sulfide nickel ores, laterite ore was paid more attention by scientists. Because its grade is commonly lower than sulfide nickel ores, laterite ore can not be utilized effectively be-coming the bottleneck of study. Leaching laterite ores from Yuanjing, Yunnan province, organic ac-ids show better selective than sulfide acid in nickel and cobalt recovery. Organic acid has low de-pendent on pH, keeping leaching capability even higher than 3. On the other side, when pH up to 2, sulfide acid can not leach laterite ores any more. After four kinds of organic acid leaching laterite ores, besides citrate, malate and succinate have good leaching and effectively selective capability. Especially, succinate has the best selective leaching capability of nickel and cobalt in four kinds of organic acids for latter anion purification and separation. Isolated from waste water with sugar, Aspergillus niger (zs1) has great capability to produce organic acids and vigorous growth. Laterite ores have been respectively processed by direct-leaching and indirect-leaching. Indirect-leaching gives a better result than direct-leaching. Extraction of nick-el by indirect-leaching reaches 44.3%, far more than that of direct-leaching. Moreover extraction of nickel at pulp density of 5% is higher than that at pulp density of 10%, reaching 63% in 11 days and extraction of cobalt also is 48.1% in the same period. Compared with nickel and cobalt, iron gives low extraction in solution, containing organic acids produced by Aspergillus niger .

The ore, dealt with in this paper, is a certain rutile in Shanxi province, China. A trunk flowsheet with gravity concentration is used, and the TiO2 grade of rutile concentrate is about 90%, but the TiO2 recovery is less than 50%. In order to increase the rutile recovery, the laboratory test, using the truck flowsheet with flotation, is carried out. The flowsheet is that firstly floatable gangue is re-moved by flotation; secondly rutile is recovered by flotation; and thirdly impurity is separated by LIMS, HIMS, gravity concentration and flotation from the rutile concentrate. In rutile flotation, BK423, a phosphonic acid, is used as rutile collector, and Na2SiF6 is used as silicates depressant. The experimental result shows that the recovery of rutile concentrate is improved obviously, and the recovery of ultimate rutile concentrate is 68.01% TiO2 and 84.88% rutile. The TiO2 grade of first concentrate is 95.98%, and the TiO2 recovery is 45.60%. The TiO2 grade of second concentrate is 80.53%, and the recovery is 22.41%. Furthermore, magnetite and ilmenite are recovered in the flowsheet.
