"The aim of the study is the development of a seamless reprocessing procedure for plastics from automotive parts which are to be recycled (figure 1). Before automatic sorting can be performed, the materials first have to be identified by a near and middle infrared (NIR/MIR) system.Materials reprocessing basically includes research on size reduction, decoating, and roughening of the materials. Variants of the necessary technologies such as different shredders and mills and physico-chemical or mechanical decoating and roughening procedures together with the fundamental approaches underlying these methods are investigated and benchmarked. This allows the theoretical determination of the impact of each method not only on the overall process but also on the result achieved within the identification and sorting procedures."

With this expanded focus comes the need to improve processes more openly, more iteratively and more collaboratively. This presentation will share examples of how mineral processors have adopted new strategies such as self-serve business intelligence, data mining, cloud computing and internal/external collaboration. The more efficient production and use of mineral resources is a major objective of our sustainability efforts. Resource characterization is a critical component for optimization of the mine-to-mill process, including innovative processing for sustainable growth. Such characterization is now referred to as geometallurgy, with advanced instrumentation including, for example, particle size analysis, XRF, XRD, NIR, automated SEM/EDAX analysis (QEMSCAN, MLA), and high resolution X-ray micro tomography. Geometallurgical information is important for exploration, deposit evaluation; mine planning, design and analysis of separation processes, etc. Characterization of mineral processing particles in 3D is now possible using high resolution X-ray micro tomography (HRXMT), and such HRXMT systems have been installed at several laboratories around the world. After review of principles, the features of such HRXMT analyses are presented including size/shape, damage state, mineral phase identification, and evaluation/isolation of trace mineral particles. With new algorithms for image analysis, quantitative data treatment is possible for construction of liberation-limited grade/recovery curves, for the determination of specific crack surface area, and for complex texture analysis including grain exposure. Finally, new tomographic characterization possibilities are discussed to provide the foundation for the development of advanced, innovative processing strategies for sustainable growth. "An environmentally clean and virtually waste-less technology for treatment of domestic and industrial solid waste (HGIW) including other toxic chloride-containing materials has been developed and proven on a full scale by the Gintsvetmet Institute in cooperation with some other Russian organizations.The essence of the process is that the HGIW are decomposing in the liquid base in air-bed slag melted layer under the temperature of 1350-1400°C.HGIW is considered as fuel heat-producing energy of 1500-1800 kCal/kg with 51,7%.Processing of municipal and industrial solid waste in molten slag is carried out autogenously without additional fuel, the blowing is enriched by oxygen up to 50-70%.The complex makes it possible to treat the furnace charge without preliminary drying and sorting with big differences in chemical and morphological composition due to the versatile firing chamber.The proposed process resolves the acute and globally significant problem of dioxin formation.The purpose of the proposed technology is to ensure such destruction of the structural lattice that would guarantee irreversible transformation of the resultant substances to prevent formation of dioxins. It was established the required preconditions to achieve this purpose."

From the point of view of industrial performance of metal extraction, the efficiency of a column leaching operation depends strongly on the leaching agent and the ore properties such as mineral composition, mineral liberation and particle size distribution. One aspect that has become particularly important is how the leaching solution flows through the porous structure which contains the valuable minerals. It is known that the output flow rate of leaching solution depends mainly on factors of the input flow, environmental condition and porous bed properties. The latter factor is often evaluated and reported under saturated conditions but in practical leaching systems unsaturated conditions are dominant. This investigation has the purpose of determining the residence time of the leaching solution in columns with different diameters under unsaturated conditions by using experimental data and numerical simulations. Laboratory leach test were performed using isothermal jacketed columns with top cap to reduce the evaporation. The simulations were performed using the software SVFlux® which incorporates material properties such as Soil Water Characteristic Curve (SWCC) and Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity. Preliminary results indicate a non-linear asymptotic behavior of the saturation rate with respect to the operation time. Results from numerical simulations show the same non-linear behavior and a considerable delay between input and output flows. Further analysis concerning with the effect of transpiration and evaporation mechanisms is discussed.

"The solubility of wollastonite and its Hallimond flotation behavior as a function of dodecylamine concentration and pH are examined. The flotation response is characterized by adsorption and surface energy in the presence of amine. The methods of UV-Visible and FT-IR spectroscopy for adsorption and sessile-drop contact angle for surface energy estimation are employed.The results of wollastonite dissolution clearly showed its non uniform dissolution. The surfaces are depleted with calcium ions and became rich in silicon within 10 min of flotation time. Maximum flotation of wollastonite corresponds to a half monolayer coverage of amine, which is substantiated by the surface energy parameters as shown in figure 1."

The lower level provides for control of reagent dosing on the base of control of ionic composition parameters in the pulp liquid phase. The control goal is to keep the basis relationship among parameters of ionic composition (ions A, B, C) in pulp liquid phase given by equations of type:• alg[A] + blg[B] + clg[C] = K (1)Values of a,b,c coefficients are uniquely determined by a physico-chemical model used. Kind of the model depends on mineral composition of an ore and reagent regime applied. As parameter of ionic composition, also values of one or two parameters (or their combinations) can be used, for instance, pH, concentration of sulfide ions, ions of collector.The upper level of control is based on calculation and use of technological results of selective flotation. At the level, an adaptation of the model (1) is conducted. A principle of the adaptation is in determining (and including in pre-setting function of the lower level) such value of K parameter, at which maximal economic effectiveness of the process is reached. As a criterion of economic effectiveness of the process, a function of losses of several valuable components, taking into account cost of the metals lost, is used. Axis House manufactures and supplies alkylhydroxamate reagent of various carbon chain lengths for application in flotation of oxide copper and other minerals. As part of reagent performance improvement the structural factors of hydroxamate are examined by various analytical tools in particular with X-ray diffraction of single crystals. In a recent publication, the structure of n-octylhydroxamic acid and its corresponding potassium salt are presented with findings of hydroxamic functional group geometric preference, H-bonding, keto-enol tautomerisation, acid-salt aggregation and alignment of carbon chain. In this paper an example of branched alkylhydroxamate 3, 5, 5-trimethylhexylhydroxamate will be presented and compared with the result of linear alkylhydroxamate.

Treatment of copper sulphides minerals via leaching-solvent extraction-electrowining (lix-sx-ew) have been for years the process scheme proposed from hydrometallurgy as an alternative to the conventional flotation-smelting route. Many different hydrometallurgical technologies of this type have been proposed, investigated and tested over the years, but until today none of them has come close to endanger the predominance of the flotation-smelting route in the copper industry. However, bioleaching introduced an important breakthrough in this context as this technology enabled the alternative hydrometallurgical treatment of secondary copper sulfide ores and low grade ores by applying heap bioleaching processes. Extension of its application to primary copper ores have been limited until now by the nature of chalcopyrite which is very refractory to leaching. However, important improvements are expected by using of improved designs that enable to operate at high temperature ranges where copper is leached faster under the catalytic action of thermophile microorganisms. The present work analyzes future scenarios for the application of this technology either in heaps or in-situ, which can become very attractive as copper can be produced reducing drastically the energy consumption associated to the mining, crushing and grinding stages.

Xanthates (dithiocarbonates) have been the collector of choice for the flotation of sulfide minerals ever since the flotation process was developed and have been studied quite extensively. Recently, trithiocarbonates have been shown to be very effective in bulk sulfide bench-scale flotation. Fundamental analysis using electrochemical techniques have supported these bench-scale results, illustrating that the trithiocarbonate (TTC) collectors are more readily oxidized to their corresponding dithiolates, than the dithiocarbonate (DTC) collectors, as is shown in Figure 1.

The results of mineralogical?technological studies of PGM mineralization in zoned mafic?ultramafic complexes of the Ural?Alaskan type are given. The most important technological specificity of PGM mineralization hosted in dunites is its occurrence only in the form of free mineral species with predominance of Fe?Pt alloys (ferrous platinum, isoferroplatinum, and tetraferroplatinum). Technological properties, grain size, and good opening of PGM ore in grain size class +80 µm make it possible to concentrate ore using gravity methods with stadial comminution and between cycle separation of relatively large grains and nuggets into high-grade concentrates at the early stage of disintegration. "The floatabiliby of chelate CF-collector for zinc and lead oxide minerals was described. It found that CF-collector possesses a strong collection power for zinc and lead oxide minerals as well as excellent selectivity for the gangue minerals. A new technology of zinc and lead oxide flotation with CF reagent as a collector, lead nitrite as a activator and water glass as modifier was presented. The mechanism of interaction between reagents and minerals was discussed by means of adsorption, zeta potential, nephelometric titration, XPS and infrared spectra was investigated.CF-collector, newly developed by Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM), is a kind of chelate collector for the flotation of oxide minerals. CF-collector mainly consists of N-nitroso-N-phenylhydroxylamine ammonium salt. The CF-collector was used for the selective flotation of scheelite in the Chinese plants.In this paper, the effects of the dosages of activator Pb(NO3)2 and depressants (sodium hexametaphosphate, polyphosphate, water glass and salified water glass) on the floatabilities of several minerals (cerussite, smithsonite, calcite, dolomite, limonite and quartz) as well as their mixtures were investigated in the presence of the CF-collector. The results show that the CF-collector is the excellent collector for selective flotation of cerussite and smithsonite. Pb(NO3)2 can selectively activate the oxides of lead and zinc resulting in a decrease of the CF-collector dosage. The sodium hexametaphosphate plus the salified water glass are the effective depressants for gangue minerals. Based on the above facts, the “CF process”, namely, used CF reagent as a collector, Pb (NO3) 2 as a activator, and sodium hexametaphosphate plus salified water glass as depressant, has been used for the flotation separation of the lead oxide mixtures or zinc oxide mixtures without disliking and heating. For the feed lead assaying 19.07%, the lead concentrate assaying 49.81% Pb at the recovery 80.69% was obtained after one step flotation. For the feed zinc assaying 12.85%, a zinc concentrate of assaying 29.56% Zn at recovery 83.87% was obtained."

Enhanced granulation of UASB granules was tested on pilot scale with two different test reactors (about 5 litres capacity each). Sludge from a local sewage works was used, with peach cannery effluent as carbon source. Cyclic motion of the reactor contents, and a daily replenishment of feed material create the necessary stress conditions for enhanced growth. Sizable granules, bigger than 0.5 mm, were produced within 20 days. Of the two reactors tested, the reactor equipped with a horizontal agitation shaft proved more effective.

The utilization of acid leaching tailings was studied. It is obvious that the Fe in acid leaching tailings can be leached into solutions as Fe2+. In this paper, the influence of conditions, including the concentration of ferrous sulfate, pH, temperature and velocity of air flow was investigated. The optimum conditions for preparing seed crystal are as follows: the concentration of ferrous sulfate is 20 g/L; pH is 9.5~10; reaction temperature is 10~20?; velocity of air flow is 0.4m3/h. The optimum conditions for preparing iron oxide red are as follows: the concentration of ferrous sulfate is 5 g/L; reaction temperature is 80~85?; velocity of air flow is 0.13m3/h. At last, the product of iron oxide red could be prepared by ammonia method.

In order to discuss the separation mechanism of copper-molybdenum ore, surface electronic structures of chalcopyrite and molybdenite were studied in the paper, by using First Principles method of quantum chemistry. So, the separation mechanism of thioglycolic acid (TGA) with chalcopyrite and molybdenite was revealed better. The results showed that differences of the electronic structure of chalcopyrite and molybdenite could directly affect their interactions with TGA, such as band structure, density of states, Mulliken populations, and so on. And the frontier orbitals of chalcopyrite and molybdenite were also calculated by Dmol3 after the optimization by CASTEP, from which the interaction energies between minerals and TGA were obtained and compared. So, the essence of flotation separation of copper and molybdenum were well revealed.
