Inco Limited, Ontario Division is currently in the process of decommissioning the Whistle Mine site located near Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The most significant component of site decommissioning involved relocating approximately 6.4 million tonnes of acid-generating waste rock to the open pit from two adjacent stockpiles. An engineered cover system was designed for the backfilled pit to reduce the long-term production of acid rock drainage. Geochemical modelling was conducted to assess the effectiveness of various cover options on the longterm water quality of the backfilled pit. Results obtained from performance monitoring of cover system field trials at the site and estimated full-scale construction costs were used to select an appropriate material for the cover system barrier layer. The two-dimensional soil-atmosphere model VADOSE/W was used to develop a calibrated model of covered waste rock based on field data obtained from the cover trials, which was subsequently used to predict net percolation and oxygen ingress through various cover system alternatives for site-specific climate conditions. Erosion and landform evolution numerical modelling was completed to assist in designing the runoff management system and final landform for the pit cover system. The potential impact of various physical, chemical and biological processes on the sustainable performance of the pit cover system was also considered in the design process. This paper provides an overview of the design and construction of the backfilled pit cover system.

The twenty years before World War I was the Golden Age of copper smelting in British Columbia. In this short time, the smelters developed from small, primitive units to large, efficient operations. The first copper claims had been staked on Howe Sound and Knight Inlet in 1864, and there was extensive copper mining in the interior by the mid-1880s, but before 1895, all ore was shipped out of the country for smelting, converting and refining. The first interest in smelter construction was undoubtedly inspired by a Provincial bonus and Dominion land grants offered to smelter builders. The early smelters made use of small blast furnaces which were designed to smelt any kind of ore, but usually far too little ore was available. The first smelter seems to have been the McRae furnace on the Spillimacheen River (1883), followed by Vancouver (1889), Revelstoke (1891), and Golden (1891) (1). They each smelted a few tons of galena and then quickly closed down permanently for lack of ore. Only smelters that actually produced some copper matte are described in the following sections.

"The Casa-Berardi East, Center and West deposits, located in the Archean Abitibi, Sub province, are hosted by volcanic and sedimentary units of varying compositions, less than300 m from the Casa-Berardi fault (CBF). The CBF, a brittle structure, represents an increment in the structural evolution of a regional-scale deformation zone showing ductile-brittle behavior known as the Casa-Berardi deformation zone (CBDZ). The CBDZ is characterized by a mylonitic Sc1 foliation which is folded a.n4 deformed by a later sczfoliation in high strain zones.Four generations of quartz vein and fracture systems have been recognized within the Casa-Berardi deposits. Most economic gold mineralization, occurring in the second generation system, is found within high strain zones. This system hosts three types of mineralized structures: (1) banded quartz veins; (2) swarms of veins and mineralized host rocks; and (3) disseminated sulphides along fractures. An early carbonate hydrothermal alteration zone (pre- to syntectonic) surrounds the deposits. Alteration associated with gold mineralization is contemporaneous to late ( syn- to post-tectonic) relative to the development of progressive deformation in the CBDZ. The geological characteristics and paragenesis of the four quartz vein and fracture systems developed as an integral part of the geodynamic evolution of the Casa-Berardi deformation zone."

"This paper examines the impact of the various assumptions that go into an economic evaluation, and shows how these can be combined to show an exciting result that may not really exist. An example of an embellished case (the kind that one frequently sees when projects are being promoted) is developed and the cumulative impact is analysed to show the actual project underneath. The paper also points out some areas to watch for overly optimistic assumptions such as prices, inflation, and debt. The concept of a ""bare bones"" base case is proposed (constant metal prices, constant dollars, no inflation, no debt, no interest, on a project basis, after tax) as a common reference point.As well, the discount rate is examined as a fundamental means of reflecting risk in discounted cash flow evaluations. Current industry practice is discussed, and a methodology for the analysis of risk levels is proposed that assesses the constituent components of the discount rate: real interest, mineral project risks, and country risk.INTRODUCTIONOften, the first time that all of the technical and economic data for a mineral project comes together in one place is when the economic evaluation is developed. This typically happens when work on the project has progressed to a sufficient level of detail that the effort to produce a year-by-year cash flow is justified, usually at the pre-feasibility or feasibility study stage. The data involved will include:• production; tonnes waste and ore mined, ore grade, mining recovery, metallurgical recovery, metal sold• revenue; metal price, smelting & refining charges, marketing costs• operating Costs; mining, milling, administration, fees, royalties• capital Costs; exploration, development, construction, indirect costs (engineering, management), contingencies, start-up, inventories, working capital, replacement and sustaining capital, closure costs• taxes and royalties• exclusions; depreciation (this is not a cash item), sunk costs (only costs going forward)."

The need for selective metal separations has increased as the mining industry encounters more complex ore bodies and demand for higher performance end products expands. The Molecular Recognition Technology (MRT) process uses highly selective SuperLig® resins to remove desired metals from a variety of solutions in the mining and metals processing and recovery industries. MRT separation processes efficiently produce high purity metal products. In this paper, applications of MRT to metal recovery at mg/L to multiple g/L concentration levels are presented and discussed. Specific examples in the precious metal, nickel, cobalt, zinc, copper, and rare earth industries are given.

Syncrude Canada Ltd. has recently completed construction of its ambitious tar-sand mining and processing facilities at Mildred Lake, Alberta. The Syncrude site is approximately 48 km (30 miles) north of Fort McMurray near the west shore of the Athabasca River. The Syncrude operation involves the open-pit mining of approximately 270,000 tonnes (300,000 tons) of tar sand daily using draglines and a conveyor system. Bitumen is extracted from the tar sand, upgraded to oil-gas and transported to refineries in Edmonton and other locations for final processing . The Beaver Creek Dam forms part of the mining facilities for the Syncrude tar-sand mining operation. Water from Beaver Creek is diverted from the open-pit mine site south to the Athabasca River via Ruth Lake and the Poplar Creek Dam. General site layout is shown on Figure I . Design of the dam was completed by R. M. Hardy and Associates Ltd. of Edmonton, Alberta (now Hardy Associates (1978) Ltd) . Construction was undertaken during the summers of 1974 and 1975 under the direction of Canadian Bechtel Limited, managing contractors for Syncrude Canada Ltd. Total length of the dam is approximately 2.8 km (1.7 miles), with a maximum height in the order of 16 m (50 ft) The Beaver Creek Dam is located in a broad, flat, poorly drained valley. About 50 per cent of the site is covered with treeless peat deposits, which ranged in thickness from in excess of 5 m (15 ft) at the east end of the dam to less than 1 m (3 ft) at the central portion. The peat deposits overlie Pleistocene meltwater sediments on top of clay/clay shales of the Clearwater Formation and the tar sands of the McMurray Formation. The peat deposits and high groundwater levels at the site combine to make the excavation and construction of a conventional rolled clay cutoff impractical. For these reasons, the slurry cutoff trench technique was utilized to produce an efficient and effective seepage cutoff under various sections of the Beaver Creek Dam .

Building off the enthusiasm generated by Credit Suisse First Boston on the potential benefits of an industry-wide effort to market gold jewellery, a group of gold producers, led by Randall Oliphant, CEO of Barrick Gold, decides to investigate the long -term impact of launching a significant marketing initiative to stimulate demand for gold jewellery. The group establishes an international Steering Committee representing producers of differing sizes, members and non-members of the World Gold Council. This Committee comprises representatives from AngloGold, Barrick, Gympie Gold, Kinross, Randgold, and Sons of Gwalia and is supported by the Australian Gold Council, the Gold and Silver Institute, and CSFB. The Steering Committee hires McKinsey to assist it by conducting an independent review of whether investment in a large-scale marketing initiative for gold jewellery would be effective in increasing demand for gold, and ultimately of significant economic benefit of the gold industry. Based on McKinsey?s review* and its own discussions with key stakeholders across the industry, the Steering Committee strongly believes the case for marketing is compelling and sufficiently proven to persuade the industry to undertake a major initiative over the next few years. Roasting of molybdenite concentrate is an important stage in the production of commercial molybdenum trioxide. The oxidation kinetic and mechanism of molybdenum sulfide concentrates from two plants were investigated at temperatures from 444 °C to 640°C. The rate of reaction was determined for thin layer samples in a muffle furnace at controlled temperatures, oxygen excess and removal of sulfur dioxide. For both concentrates the rate of reaction is fairly slow at temperatures below 500°C and remains fairly constant from 540 to 600 °C. It was observed that the concentrate from the first plant presents a tendency for sintering or glazing at temperatures above 620°C, whereas the same phenomena was observed at 20 or 30 °C higher temperature for the second concentrate. A kinetic model of two reactions, involving the formation of Mo02 as intermediate oxide for the production of Mo03 is proposed and activation energies of 23.0 and 20.8 kJ/mol for the first and second reaction were calculated for temperatures between 520 °C to 600 °C. These low values of activation energies indicate that the overall rate of oxidation is controlled by mass transfer, particularly in a porous layer of oxides. Therefore, the renewal of the surface by mixing and motion of the concentrate layer is of great importance. Sublimation of Mo03 becomes significant for temperatures above 650 °C.

"Novel silicate-alginate composite beads containing 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2- ethylhexyl ester (P507) were synthesized and applied for the adsorption of Nd3+ from aqueous solutions. The adsorption amount of Nd3+ has been increased owing to the introduction of P507. The effect of equilibrium pH (pHe), the kinetic and isotherm experiments were investigated. The adsorption reaches equilibrium at 9 h and the maximum uptake capacity is up to 195.4 mg/(g dry adsorbent). The Langmuir isotherm equations are used to describe the adsorption process. Complete desorption can be realized with 0.2 M HCl within 20 min. INTRODUCTIONRare earth elements (REEs) have found various applications in different domains, such as metallurgy industry, ceramic industry, nuclear fuel control, photo-electro-magnetic functional materials owing to their unique properties. Neodymium (Nd), as a representative of all of the most valuable REEs, is widely used as catalysts, laser crystals, capacitors, rubber additives, Nd-Fe-B magnets, hydrogen storage and so on. Thus, the separation and purification of neodymium is significant. Unfortunately, Nd always coexists with other REEs and selective separation of the individual Nd from the REEs mixtures is still extremely difficult owing to their strictly similar atomic structures and chemical properties.Liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and solid-liquid adsorption (SLA) are the most widely adopted techniques for the separation of REEs in the hydrometallurgical fields. The LLE process is well suited for large-scale continuous operation because of its inherent high capacity and fast kinetics. Nowadays, as a commercial extractant, 2-ethylhexyl phosphonic acid mono-2-ethylhexyl ester (P507) has been extensively studied for extraction and separation of REEs since it has considerably good extractability and high separation efficiency (Xu et al., 1992). SLA is one of the effective and green separation methods with some prominent advantages, such as easy regeneration of adsorbents, small footprint size, less industrial wastes, higher enrichment factors and column efficiency,rapid solid–liquid separation without emulsion and so on. Hence, the introduction of extractants with excellent performance into adsorbents will integrate the advantages of LLE and SLA (Lee et al., 2009)."

A number of successful proof-of-concept projects have been carried out to replace conventional power application, such as diesel and rechargeable batteries, in underground mine vehicles. This has led to the development of the world?s first fuelcell production vehicle, a mine locomotive. A mine loader project has also started and several other projects are planned. These projects are providing the mining industry with the required information to make this technology shift possible. The application of fuelcell power will yield several important benefits such as the elimination of underground diesel emissions, significant reduction in the primary extraction?s sector greenhouse gas emissions and support for a more productive scenario. This article reviews these successes, discusses ongoing and potential projects and presents the technology application benefits that could be possible for mining operations.

THREE OF the gold mines in the Red Lake Camp operates fluid bed roasters in their milling circuits. The mines are Campbell Red Lake, Cochenour Willans, and Dickenson. The roasters are used for the autogenous roasting of a flotation concentrate for subsequent gold recovery by cyanidation. Cochenour and Dickenson operate single stage reactors, whilst Campbell use a two-stage system. Ore treated by the mines is similar in that the major part of the gold is associated with arsenopyrite. Other sulphides present are pyrite, pyrrhotite, stibnite and sphalerite. Gangue minerals are mainly quartz, with carbonates and talc. Mineralization is, for the most part, extremely fine, and there is intimate association between sulphides and quartz, so much so, th at a picked specimen of apparently massive arsenopyrite will frequently contain as much as 80 per cent gangue. "This paper presents the technique and benefits of the finite element approach for designing the refractory lining in pressure oxidation autoclaves. One-dimensional equations are used to develop an initial refractory design. ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL) scripts are then used to build and analyse a more accurate three-dimensional finite element model to verify the refractory thickness, determine weld overlay requirements, and assess mechanical stability. The APDL scripts provide a cost effective means to quickly evaluate various boundary conditions and multiple designs to determine the optimal lining configuration and nozzle layout.INTRODUCTIONNew ore processing facilities demand increased capacity, requiring hydrometallurgy processes that have larger reactor vessels operating at higher pressure and temperature. Many pressure hydrometallurgy operations require vessels with an impermeable membrane and one or more courses of refractory or ceramic brick. The membrane provides corrosion protection for the vessel shell and the brick provides thermal protection for the membrane. Designing a refractory lining with an economic service life as a thermal barrier requires the refractory to be erosion resistant, chemically compatible with the process fluid, and mechanically stable. A fundamental understanding of the factors affecting the lining system is essential as designs move further away from the industry’s experience base.During basic engineering the refractory lining design is developed using one dimensional cylindrical conduction equations for heat transfer and classical hoop stress-strain relationships for determining mechanical stability. The results of the thermal calculations specify the refractory thickness that should prevent the membrane temperature from exceeding the design limit. Mechanical stability of the lining is determined by examining the sensitivity of lining stability with respect to various parameters. "Evaluating resources and reserves requires the reliable modelling of geological domains and their grades. “Multiple point statistics” simulation is a relatively new geostatistical method to generate complex, high-resolution geological models by extracting high-order spatial relations from training images. A method based on combining multiple training images is developed to obtain the correct amount of large-scale continuity and short-scale variability. A calibration process matches the geological spatial variability between the final realizations and the drillhole dataset. A case study with data from the Red Dog mine, Alaska, United States, shows an appropriate reproduction of short-scale variability along boundaries between geological units.RÉSUMÉ L’évaluation des ressources et des réserves exige une modélisation fiable des domaines géologiques et de leur teneur. La simulation par « statistique multipoint » est une méthode géostatistique relativement nouvelle pour générer des modèles géologiques complexes à haute résolution par l’extraction de relations spatiales d’ordre supérieur à partir d’images d’entraînement. "Enclosed gear cases on board heavy mining equipment have traditionally been lubricated with regular heavy duty gear oils. However, equipment manufacturers, have recommended the use of an ISO-1000 gear oil for this application to ensure adequate lubricant film strength, especially at the higher end of the working temperature range. The majority of these ISO-1000 gear oils are based either on residual/asphaltic oil or synthetics, primarily higher viscosity polyalphaolefins. Although the performance of these lubricants has been satisfactory, they suffered other shortcomings that equipment users have lived with over the years.The major requirement at the user’s mine was to provide lubrication for the shovel Hoist gear case. Within such a gear case design, the gears and the roller bearings, that have different lubrication requirements, are lubricated with the same lubricant. Several lubricants were used, light gear oils as well as the recommended ISO-1000 heavy gear oils. On the one hand, the lighter oils performed adequately for the lubrication of the bearings that formed part of the enclosed gear system. These lighter oils did not perform as well for the lubrication of the gears due to their lower viscosities, resulting in shorter gear servicelives.On the other hand, the ISO-1000 gear oils performed well for the lubrication of the gears, but were too viscous to creep into the bearing elements to lubricate them adequately, especially during the cold northern Canadian winters. This resulted in catastrophic bearing failures and secondary damages to the gears.The challenge, then, was to formulate a lubricant which met the 1000 cSt at 40°C viscosity requirement as stipulated by the equipment manufacturer, while satisfactorily lubricating the bearings at the full working temperature range. This was achieved by the development of a semi-fluid grease lubricant, which has proven in field trials to give adequate performance in this application for the lubrication of both the bearings and gears down to -40°C.This product met the equipment manufacturer’s performance criteria and resolved, to a large extent, leakage of the lubricant through seals experienced with the use of conventional and synthetic gear oils.Although the main performance criteria of the fluid was its capability to lubricate the “Hoist” gear case, it was also used during the field trial in other gear cases on board the shovel to test its full capabilities.This unusual alternative lubricant was field tested and evaluated for more than two years. Based on this assessment, the product was reformulated to improve its fluidity, slumpability and the settling of debris/wear metals to the bottom of the gear cases. This reformulated softer grade, a semi-fluid grease, has been performing satisfactorily for more than eight months and is still undergoing longer term assessment."

"La mine Lamaque est située a Val d'Or, Québec; les roches hônes appartiennent au groupe de Malartic, partie supérieure, et sont des andésites et des pyroclastites. On y retrouve deux formes d'intrusifs; des petites cheminées (ca. 150 m D) et des dykes (ca. 10 m d'epaisseur). Les petit es cheminées contiennent:1 - des diorites et des tonalites (cheminées principale, est et ouest) d'affinité calco-alcaline: Zr 140 ppm, Sr 761 ppm, P2O5 0.31% et (La/Sm)n 3.0;2 - des diorites (cheminée 4) d'affinités tholéiitique: Zr 32 ppm, Sr 181 ppm, P2O5 0.27% et (La/SM)n 1.5.La diorite de la cheminée no 5 contient deux fractions, une de chacune de ces deux affinités. Les dykes tant de porphyre feldspathique quartzifére que ceux de prophyre feldspathique sont d'affinité calco-alcaline: Zr 83 ppm, Sr 500 ppm et P2O5j 0.10%.Le gisement de 10 mine 2 est filonien: veines subhorizontales (""flats "") surtout et veines sub-verticales dans des zones de cisaillement. Le dernier réajustement structural de direction de compression nord-sud a broyé le quartz des veines existant es et rendu possible leur minéralisation. Les veines minéralisées contiennent du quartz, de la tourmaline, de la calcite avec des traces de scheelite, de pyrite et d'or; elles sont bordées par de minces (2 à 20 cm) bordures d'altération où l'on retrouve un enrichissement en carbonate, paragonite, apatite, rutile, saphène et zircon et où les phases ferromagnésiennes sont disparues. On a documenté le migrations géochimiques suivantes:I - de la bordure d'altération vers l'éponte, K2O, Rb et MgO;2 - de l'éponte vers la bordure d'altération, Na2O;3 - de l'éponte vers la veine, SiO2.P2O5, TiO2, Zr, Y, Nb et CaO sont enrichis dans la bordure d'altération."

"Simulation is the process of designing a computerized model, of a system or procedure, for the purpose of understanding its behaviour and developing strategies to control its operation. Simulation models are rapidly becoming an effective tool for mineral processing plants. Powerful software and fast hardware are more readily available than a basic understanding of the theory of mathematical probability and applied statistics that process simulation models demand.Simple spreadsheet software can be used to develop simulation models that take into account any set of conditions at a mineral processing plant. In addition to an unbiased estimate for each variable in the set on which two-and three-product formulas are based, reliable variance estimates for all variables are required. How to estimate variances, effectively and at the lowest possible cost, and how to compute variances for simple functions such as the metal content of a quantity of ore or concentrate, or more complex functions such as the percentage recovery at a mineral processing plant, are the key to useful simulation models.IntroductionSimulation models for systems and procedures have become one of the most powerful and effective applications for computers( 2.6). Simulations are applied to a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines. Generally, a model is designed to investigate the effects of changes in and interactions between a set of variables before a system is in operation or a procedure is implemented, by simulating weeks, months, and even years of operation, in a few minutes of computer time. Along with practical and useful applications always comeabuse and misuse. For a simulation process cannot be more reliable than the methodology that was applied to design the model, to estimate variables and variances, to check performance, and to verify validity. A mineral processing plant is a dynamic system that changes continuously as a function of time but within probabilistic constraints that can be estimated by applying statistical tools and techniques to the variables and variances that interact in the system.A model should be designed to simulate not only the set of variables but also the variance for each variable. Models in which constant variances are used to generate normally distributed random numbers, are less realistic than models in which the variances are simulated first, and then used to simulate the variables."

IN discussing stope filling, or backfilling, at the Sullivan mine, at Kimberley, B.C., a brief description of the problem will first be presented. The Sullivan orebody is a replacement in quartzite, with the ore con-forming, for the most part, with the bedding. The dip of the vein, apart from local irregularities, averages about 15 degrees near the outcrop in the southwest section of the mine, and steepens to almost 40 degrees at the northeast end of the mine. The thickness varies from a few feet to over 200 feet at the widest sections. The mineable length along the strike has averaged about 4,000 feet between the 4,600 and 3,900 levels-the section under discussion in this paper. To date, 28,000,000 tons of ore have been mined by the room-and-pillar method. Prior to 1930, all ground opened up had been supported by ore pillars, left during mining operations. From that time, the recovery of the ore from these pillars has been given serious consideration. Backfilling, as being carried on today, is the result of this study and is being done for two reasons: (1) to allow extraction of the ore pillars, and (2) to minimize subsidence of the hanging-wall rock, except where forced caving is found desirable. PRELIMINARY DEVELOPMENTS LEADING TO BACKFILLING When the Sullivan orebody was first opened up, early in the century, there appeared to be low-grade sections of the vein sufficient in extent to serve as permanent support for the roof. However, as mining extended into sections of the vein that showed continuous ore over greater areas, wooden cribs, filled with waste and low-grade ore, were erected. In some stopes, these cribs were as large as 40 ft. by 100 ft. in plan and from 50 ft. to 60 ft. in height, but it was soon realized that this method of support was inadequate. As mining progressed, it was found necessary to leave ore pillars, which eventually became the sole system of support. At first, these pillars were left at irregular intervals, but later they were laid out at definite locations on the mine plans, and these locations were adhered to as closely as mining would permit.

Among the many interesting problems of the pre-Cambrian of the Canadian Shield is that of the origin of certain types of gneisses which are intimately associated with the granites on the one hand and with the metamorphic rocks of known sedimentary origin on the other. The observations recorded in this paper on the structure and composition of these ancient rocks found in a small part of northern Quebec may help to lead to a clearer understanding of the way in which they were formed and also constitute a contribution to the regional geology and petrography of a district for which little detailed information is available. The area considered is located near the Ashuapmuchuan, or Chamuchuan, river about 180 miles north-northwest of the city of Quebec, and therefore well within the Canadian Shield. Although most attention was devoted to the rocks along this river from the 57th to the 70th mile above its entrance into Lake St. John, a few observations on other localities to the north and northwest of that lake will be included. The field work was done in the summer of 1924 in cooperation with L. W. MacNaughton, E. S. Roberts, and B. M. Shaub, all of Cornell University. The party ascended the Ashuapmuchuan river by canoe and spent about a month near the mouth of Stacker, or Brochet, river, the outlet of the lake of the same name, returning by way of Mikoasas river. "Phosphate tailing is a kind of industrial waste that emitted from separation processing of phosphate ores, which is usually discarged to the tailing pond without treatment. Recovery of phosphorus from tailings is of great significance for comprehensive utilization of phosphorus resource. Chemical composition of a micro-fine cryptocrystalline phosphate tailing was investigated by X Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES), and mineral composition and occurrence of harmful elements were analyzed by optical microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X ray Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (X-ray EDS) and Mineral liberation Analyzer (MLA). On the basis of above, effects of those on mineral processing for phosphate tailing was analyzed. Chemical analysis results in combination with microscopy indicated that there is a certain amount of iron and aluminum and it should focus on the removal of them in separation processing. The cryptocrystalline structure, especially the micro banding structure and micro porphyritic structure indicated that there is quite amount of phosphate in fine particles and it should recovery the phosphorus as much as possible when designing the flotation technology for this difficult separation fine phosphate tailing. This study can provide theoretical guide for efficient phosphorus recovery of from fine phosphate tailing by flotation.INTRODUCTIONPhosphate rocks are vital nonrenewable resources and are essential components in agricultural fertilizers and phosphorous-based chemicals (Gharabaghi et al., 2009). About 95% of the phosphate produced around the world is consumed in the fertilizer industry (page 60 Abdel-Zaher, 2008; Jasinski, 2007). Froth flotation, a solid wettability based separation process is widely used in separation of phosphate rock and shown to be effective (Yehia et al., 1990; Singh et al., 1992; Elgillani and Abouzeid, 1993; Al-Fariss et al., 2013) .Poor selectivity and low recovery for micro-fine particles are hard issues in flotation of middle-low grade phosphate ore because Phosphate resources is becoming poor, fine and complex as the rich ores run out since the 1970s. The rapid depletion of high grade ores forces minerals industry to process low grade ores where finer grinding is required to achieve required liberation of the values, making the fine particle flotation inevitable. the performance of conventional flotation deteriorates rapidly as particle size decreases to below 10-20 µm, depending on the density of the particles (Feng and Aldrich, 1999). To date, fine particle flotation is still considered to be a challenge in mineral processing (Li et al., 2015) ."
