With thise Process of obtaining a solid fuel which is both ecological clean and has a high calorific value by a two-stage method of enriching preferably type lignitic coals to remove a high content of all sulphurs, incuding organic sulphur, which method comprises converting the coal to a semi-coke from followed by magnetic separation. In the Experiments given the best results the washed lignite coal in the West-Turkey, Tavsanli- Region, size -3.35 mm on dry basis. In the microscopic studies of the brigh-thin cross-section taken from the samples of sulfur min-erals pyrite in the dimension of 2~50 micrometers and melnicovite 10 micrometers particles. An thermal treatment an semi-coking themperature between 370°C to 650°C give the best Result of 480 °C. The oxidation and decomposition of sulphur minerals pyrite and melnicovite in lignite coal proceed the iron oxides Fe2O3 and pyrrhotite FeS on the surface layer. The Magnetic Seperator (Rare Earth Magnetic Separator, REMS) is capable this two form of sulphur, including organic and inorganic sulphur, in semi-coke and resulted in the magnetic-fraction in REMS. The non-magnetic-fraction remove total sulphur by 68 %, ash by 44 % and increase the upper calorific value in 15 %. The clean lignitic coal can be utilized in human or energy power stations.

The study involved two projects that will produce copper concentrate and may have their operations integrated. Transport by trucks, conveyor belt, and the equipment called RopeCon were evaluated as options for the ore transport between the sites. A rainforest stretch, that Vale S.A. demands to preserve, is situated between the projects. It was suggested to further review RopeCon because it presents minimal interactions with the environment. To design the preliminary system layout, a research was done on the rainforest cover height data, but the information found was scarce and imprecise. For preserving the local forest, the use of this data would conduct to the oversizing of RopeCon towers and, consequently, overestimation of its costs. For the acquisition of reliable information, a method was developed using local data acquired through airborne laser survey. The volume between the digital surface and terrain models was calculated to generate a surface representing the forest cover height. It was revealed, by plotting the points obtained from this surface, that 85% of the vegetation is below 25 m. This height is suggested to review the preliminary project with a more accurate design of the equipment towers, thus reducing its costs estimates. The method permits the precise location of the large trees, making easier to find a pathway, for linear-shaped facilities, that would minimize the creation of vegetation-free zones as a measure to protect equipments against falling trees and forest fires. "The complexity of the flotation process has made the identification of an appropriate model structure for the predictive simulation of flotation circuits far from obvious. Work performed under the auspices of the AMIRA P9 flotation program has indicated that the metallurgical performance achieved from a flotation cell arises from the interaction of two essentially independent property classes, namely the cell operating conditions and the properties of the cell feed stream. These observations have led to the development of a model structure that associates a constant set of flotation parameters to the streams of the circuit, which are transformed into a flotation response depending on the operating conditions within the flotation cell.A variety of alternative model structures exist within the literature which do not make this distinction between cell and stream flotation properties, and many of these models are in widespread use for flotation optimisation and design studies, both in industry and academia.In this paper, circuit survey and laboratory batch flotation data collected from an industrial flotation circuit are analysed. The data demonstrate that streams in an industrial flotation circuit exhibit varying particle floatability – concentrate streams typically float faster than tailing streams (Figure 1(a)). This floatability, however, is generally conserved around the various units within the flotation process (i.e. the effective floatability of the combined feed and product streams of a unit is equivalent (Figure 1(b)))."

"The apatite staffelite ores (ASO) of Kovdor deposit are dominated by fine-grained aggregates containing both phosphate minerals and silicates — vermiculite, smectites, zeolites. These minerals exhibit ion-exchange properties. In this connection, the magnitude of cation exchange, along with the content of P2O5 and CO2, is an important property of apatite staffelite ore, which largely determines the performance of concentration processes. In the examined ASO samples, the magnitude of cation exchange measured in terms of Ca2+ is 2546-4790 g/ton. The conducted laboratory studies of apatite staffelite ores with various mineral composition showed that adding calcined soda improves the recovery of P2O5 into the flotation concentrate. Full-scale tests were conducted at the apatite staffelite ore processing plant at Kovdor Mining and Concentration Operation and demonstrated the high performance of the proposed agent treatment. The test results showed that in the flotation of apatite staffelite ores, the optimum calcined soda feed rates range from 3,500 to 5,000 g/ton of the flotation feed. With close flotation feed and concentrate grade parameters, the P2O5 recovery gain is 17%. The effect of adding soda is associated with the desorption of the hardness cations from the minerals, precipitation in the pulp and, accordingly, improvement in the ionic composition of the liquid phase of the flotation feed due to a reduced content of calcium ions. Based on the test results, the proposed agent treatment with an elevated feed rate of calcined soda was implemented at Kovdor Mining and Concentration Operation in the flotation of apatite staffelite ore. The apatite staffelite ores (ASO) of Kovdor deposit are dominated by fine-grained aggregates containing both phosphate minerals and silicates — vermiculite, smectites, zeolites. These minerals exhibit ion-exchange properties. These minerals have certain properties requiring a more detailed examination for a better understanding of the flotation properties of apatite staffelite ores."

Experimental work was performed using a bench scale autoclave to evaluate the effects that leaching temperature, pressure, initial acid concentration, and the solid to liquid ratio have on the behaviour of base metals and platinum group metals in a high-pressure sulphuric acid oxygen leaching system. The concentrations of metals in the leach solution were measured over time at different leaching conditions. At the conditions investigated, the initial acid concentration had the largest influence on the copper leaching kinetics, while the leaching rates of the other precious metals (OPMs: rhodium, ruthenium, and iridium) were highly dependent on the leaching temperature. A set of chemical reactions that can be used to describe the leaching chemistry was proposed, and the associated reaction kinetics were quantified. As a first estimation, the rate expressions were considered first order, and the rate constants were determined using the method of least squares, considering the experimental and predicted concentrations obtained for the different leaching conditions. Of the OPM compounds, the sulphides showed the fastest dissolution rate, followed by OPM alloys, and finally the OPM oxides. During the initial leaching stages, base metals and OPMs competed for the available dissolved oxygen, with oxygen being preferentially used for copper leaching. Precipitation of OPMs during the initial leaching stages can be ascribed to copper and nickel dissolution according to exchange reactions between dissolved OPMs and copper present as digenite or nickel present as polydymite. Control of the autoclave residence time is of particular importance to enhance the selectivity of this leaching step, given the dependence of the PGM leaching rates on the extent of copper dissolution.

During the last decade the output of mining companies has increased rapidly. The key driver is the increase in demand for raw materials in the developing world, and thus this demand has driven up ore prices. From the time when the Raw material group (year 2000) started to introduced their index, it was set to 100 points. Today, year 2011, the index is over 400, which means that ore prices have quadrupled since then. Mine companies have to go deeper in the mines to access the ore bodies to increase the mine capacity and to be able to respond to the market. By going deeper in the mine, there will be new challenges that have to be considered. One of these challenges is how to handle the mine water that is produced in the mine. The water has to be moved to the surface in order to keep the mine from flooding, and this causes more challenges. One solution is to pump the mine water up to the surface without treatment; however, this causes considerable pump wear and the water will still require treatment on the mine?s surface. Another solution is to treat this water in the mine before pumping it to the surface. Metso Minerals has a system solution to treat the mine water, by separating the solids from the mine water. This system reduces the erosion in the pumps and will save many maintenance hours in the long term. One other option is to use the treated water in a closed circuit and reuse it in the process. This system can be divided into three steps: Firstly, a spiral dewaterer to remove the coarse solid particles. For the next step, lamella thickener is used to remove most of the solids, and lastly tube press to handle the sludge from the underflow lamella thickeners. "Annual world zinc consumption is as high as nearly 14 millions of tonnes. Approximately 50% share of zinc is used for corrosion protection in processes of continuous galvanization and the hot dip processes. In the latter, two zinc containing residues are produced: zinc ash and hard zinc, which constitute around 10% each. Paper concerns the method of possible separation of metallic zinc from the non-metallic zinc compounds from the zinc ashes – the waste product of hot dip galvanization process. The investigative programme covered the comminution tests of the feed (zinc ash) in selected crushers: jaw crusher, roller crusher and impactor. Results of investigations show that application of individual crushing device results in various breakage of the feed sample. Impact force caused the highest increase in finest particles size fractions of the product, while metallic and non-metallic fractions were comminuted differently. The compression force, in turn, caused the selective comminution, i.e. the breakage of metallic zinc was observed in a higher degree. The presented approach appears to be an economical supplementary method of initial recovery of metallic zinc from metallurgical zinc waste. For the high demands for the zinc in the world and the need of corrosion protection, the method presented in the paper helps in more effective zinc recovery and environmental protection.INTRODUCTION AND METHODOLOGY World production of metallic zinc during last decade shows a slight increase and in recent years its consumptions reach 14 millions of tonnes. "In general, the processing of glass sand may involve comminution, washing, wet classification and attrition scrubbing. Additional processes may include magnetic separation, flotation and leaching in various combinations.Yaliköy sand dune deposit is located near to Istanbul on the European side by the Black Sea coast. The reserve of deposit is around 70 million tons. Iron content of Yaliköy sand dunes is 0.48 % Fe2O3 and not suitable for glass manufacture. The iron content of glass sand should be less than 0.15 % Fe2O3 for window glass manufacture and 0.05 % Fe2O3 for glassware. In this study, it was aimed to produce glass sand with less than 0.15 % Fe2O3 for window glass and with less than 0.05% Fe2O3 for glassware manufacture from Yaliköy sand dunes. A representative sample with a weight of 200 kg was taken from Yaliköy sand dunes deposit through opening small pits.• Mineralogical studies have shown that iron is present in three forms:• Hematite, limonite, clay and iron silicate minerals such as epidote and garnet occur in free form.• Quartz grains are coated by hematite and limonite.• Iron is also present in the cracks of quartz grains.Free iron minerals such as hematite and limonite and silicate minerals were subjected to magnetic separation and flotation for removal. Iron coatings were tried to be removed by scrubbing and leaching. Iron removal in the cracks of quartz grains was attempted by grinding and leaching.Under optimal conditions, sand concentrate with 0.38 % Fe2O3 was obtained by means of high intensity disc type magnetic separation. Grinding and scrubbing were applied to see the effect of size reduction and attrition at room temperature and 90 ºC, by using non-magnetic fraction. Sand concentrate with 0.13% Fe2O3 was obtained at 90 ºC in this test.Sand sample which was previously ground to minus 0.5 mm and scrubbed, was floated by using sulphonates as collector. After flotation tests, sand Concentrate was obtained with 0.11 % Fe2O3.The optimum iron removal was achieved by H2SO4 leaching at 90 ºC depending on acid concentration and leach duration in static, percolation and agitation leaching. Agitation leaching was done by the use of mixer at 600 rpm, 50% solids and leach duration was 15 minutes."

In proved reserves of vanadium-containing titanomagnetite in Panxi, China, iron grades of ores were 50% ~ 15%. China?s metallurgical industry departments defined the iron ores containing 50% ~ 20% TFe as exploitable resources and the extreme lean iron ores containing 20% ~ 15% TFe as temporary unexploitable resources, the extreme lean ores were as waste rejected into waste dump in mining process. This paper researched process mineralogy of the extreme lean ores, adopted mineral processing technology responded to the properties of the ores to treat the ores and obtained quality vanadium-iron concentrate, titanium concentrate and sulfur concentrate, therefore successfully utilized the extreme lean ores, changed the ores from waste resources to exploitable resources.

The low-grade nickel resource is very abundant in the western China. To make the best of the low grade nickel ore, we studied the process mineralogy and beneficiation process of nickel ore in the Yangliuping of Sichuan province. The grade of nickel is 0.45% in the nickel ore and the nickel exists in the sulfide including pyrrhotite, nickel pyrite, chalcopyrite primarily. The nickel distributes in pentlandite and magnetite over 90% and the copper does in the chalcopyrite over 95%. The carri-er minerals of useful elements tend to concentrate in space for concentration. As is shown in grain-size analysis of three major minerals, there are some more fine-grained grains with the percent of from 10% to 15% (<40 µm) and from 3.5% to 5.5% (<20 µm). So there will be some smaller size disseminated sulfide minerals difficulty to liberate in the process of concentration. The liberation degree of sulfide is not high and there are much associativity in the sulfides. Therefore, we should reclaim the sulfide aggregation dominating as pentlandite when concentrating. In addition, the sulphide minerals is so brittle that we should take care of preventing from crashing when grinding. The gangue mineral is mostly metamorphic mineral including serpentine, chlorite and amphibole which is easy to be argillization and difficult to concentrate.

Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) method is applied to select tailings site of the Gol-e-Gohar Iron Ore Processing Plant in the Kerman province, south-eastern of Iran. To select tailings site, screening is applied on eight location proposed by Binnie and Granges. Consequently three sites identified for further studies. Evaluation factors include only the most important factors such as efficiency ratio, elevation and distance to processing facilities, occurrence of faults and fractures. Crisp values such as efficiency ratio, elevation and distance can be determined by measurements and calculations, but some factors such as occurrence of faults and fractures are presented as linguistic values that can be described with triangular fuzzy numbers. Based on evaluation values obtained an optimal tailings site can be selected using a modified Technique of ranking Preferences by Similarity to the Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) given crisp data and linguistic variables as the alternatives of attributes. Each attribute?s weight is assigned using the analytic hierarchy process. The final ranking order aids in the selection of tailings site. Finally, the stages of modified TOPSIS method were applied and site No.2 situated in 5400m to the mill was selected as the best alternative.

"Heap bioleaching is an unsaturated hydrometallurgical extraction process which is commonly applied to the recovery of copper from low grade sulfide ores as well as for preparatory treatment of gold ores. The leaching reactions occur in the liquid phase, catalysed by iron and/or sulfur oxidising micro-organisms. Contact of the mineral grains with the leaching solution is consequently essential for metal recovery. Additionally, the liquid is responsible for the transport of the liberated metal out of the heap under gravitation-driven flow. However, the highly inhomogeneous structure of the heaps coupled with low irrigation rates cause the flow to vary between being gravitationally and capillary dominated, resulting in non-uniform wetting of the ore. In this study a 132 kg agglomerated ore ‘slice’ is used to examine the effect of liquid distribution on microbial colonisation and mineral recovery in a long term bioleach (> 500 days) when irrigation from a single drip emitter source is employed. The novel setup enabled sample collection from ports positioned along the length and height of the ore bed, so that 2D maps of the degree of wetting and microbial colonisation could be generated at different times in the leach. Lateral movement of the liquid increased with bed depth; the majority of flow was below the irrigation point while the top corner of the bed that was not irrigated remained the driest region of the heap throughout the experiment duration. The lowest cell numbers were also recorded in the driest regions. Specifically, cell numbers in the top corner of the bed, 400mm from the irrigation point, remained at undetectable levels until the 283rd day measurement, in line with typical heap operation durations. This indicates that slow colonisation of the heap in the regions between irrigation points may be a significant issue in heap optimisation."

This paper, by studying the surface properties of pure dolomite minerals separated from representative marine sedimentary rare earth-bearing phosphate ores in Zhijin, Guizhou, aims to study the effect of different anions on the ? potential of dolomite. The research findings showed that the dolomite mineral had a point of zero charge (PZC) at pH 6.5, and the PZC shifted towards lower pH values with addition of anion SiO32- and PO43-. Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), high acid water containing heavy metals discharged from mines, has been recognized as major cause of mine pollution. In Japan, the government spends billions of yen every year to prevent pollution caused by AMD in about 80 abandoned mines. It is widely recognized that the treatment could continue for long decades or an even century. However, costs and environmental loads are uncertain during the treatment because a predictive model for the quality of AMD, the dosage of neutralizer, and the amount of sludge that is applicable for abandoned mines with limited data has not yet been established. In this study, a two-steps predictive model for solution composition and neutralization chemical requirements of AMD in future was constructed based on the geochemical modeling. Requisite input data of the model was the past historical water quality data from AMD monitoring, such as metal concentration and pH in the solution, instead of the sample rocks as other conventional prediction methods. In the first step, solution composition of AMD in the future was extrapolated from the available historical data using geochemical simulation considering the first order kinetics for the mineral dissolution. In the second step, neutralizer dosage and sludge generation in the future was predicted based on the geochemical simulation supposing the chemical equilibrium and oxidation state for all of elements in the solution. Based on case studies of two abandoned mines in Japan, solution composition, neutralizer dosage and sludge generation were estimated. The results of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of our model for the prediction of AMD quality and chemical requirements of neutralization treatment after mine closing. The model is useful for the estimation of the neutralizer dosage and the sludge volume in abandoned mines with limited data. "The application of autoclave leaching technology for sulfide concentrates containing base and precious metals is spreading nowadays. In the process of concentrate leaching silver accumulates in the forms of jarosite compounds, transforms into passive chemical state and is mostly found in solid phase. Effective technology development for silver recovery from solid phase of concentrate autoclave leaching raises the necessity for comprehensive research of silver forms of occurrence and their properties in this product. The possible form of silver presence in solid phase of concentrate from autoclave leaching is argentojarosite. This article is about the study of physical and chemical properties and structure of synthetic argentojarosite - AgFe3(SO4)2(OH)6. A method of argentojarosite synthesis has been developed under conditions simulating the process of autoclave leaching of sulfide concentrate, and includes silver dissolution in the form of Ag2SO4, Fe3+ sulfate hydrolysis, AgFe3(SO4)2(OH)6 build-up. X-ray data of synthesized argentojarosite completely correspond to those of natural mineral. The structural formula of this complex compound has been studied and confirmed. The chemical properties of synthetic argentojarosite, its solubility in acids and alkalis have been investigated. Phase changes when heating argentojarosite with the build-up of iron oxide and silver sulfate stop at the temperature equal to 650 ºC. Based on the results received the technological solutions for solid phase of autoclave leaching of concentrate have been developed with silver recovery of 95-98%."

In this paper, an evaluation about the process mineralogy of the rich iron mine in Mongolia with comprehensive methods is given; this provides foundation of the comprehensive recovery of iron and cobalt in the ore. The research shows that the iron?s grade is 61.23%, Co?s grade is 0.02%, the ore is rich iron ore and its Co content also reaches border mining grade. For the ore, if want get high grade iron concentrate powder, must identify the mineral composition and the occurrence of iron and take into ac-count the recovery of Co content as associated resources. Chemical phase analysis results show that 86.35% of iron exists in magnetite, which means that the theoretical recovery ratio of iron is close to 86%. Minerals spectrum analysis confirmed that the magnetite containing a small amount of Mg, Al, and other impurities, the actual iron minerals to 70.28%, which means that theoretically iron grade iron concentrate only close to 70.28%. Based on the result of iron chemical phase analysis, by investigating the liberation of sulfide minerals and gangue, the recovery index of iron can be forecasted, when grinding fineness is 35%, 45%, 55% and 65% bellow 0.074mm,theoretical content of Fe in iron concentrate separately is 67.71%,67.88%,68.78%,and 69.43%,accordingly the theoretical recovery of Fe is 87.38%,87.05%,86.92% and 86.63%. From the perspective of process mineralogy, the forecast mineral beneficiation indicators show that the ore is easy sorting ore, iron processing operations have higher recovery rate, but wants sorting of high-grade iron ore concentrate still need appropriate grinding fineness. Furthermore, associated element Co, existing mostly in pyrite and pyrrhotite, is valuable in the ore. Pyrite and pyrrhotite have ideal liberation under grinding, so cobalt can be easily enriched in sulfide concentrate.

"The ball mill performance relies on impact grinding, but it has disadvantage of the lower efficiency when the ore is finer; while tower mill relies on friction shear affection with high energy efficiency, which is considered to be one of the most potential fine grinding equipment all over the world. Generated by the agitator device, the internal media movement is complex because of comprehensive interaction of screw mechanism, cylinder structure and adjacent media, which is the key factor of grinding process. But the kinematics parameter ,such as speed, acceleration, stress and so on, of media motion cannot be obtained through traditional laboratory test method, which restricts deeply research on finer grinding mechanism seriously. In order to solve this problem, characteristics of media motion in tower mill is studied via the discrete element method. Coefficient of restitution, coefficient of static friction and coefficient of rolling friction are the key parameters affecting the media movement, which were calibrated by stacking angle test firstly. A 3kW tower mill is established as the model for simulation. At last one appropriate simulation strategy is selected to increase simulation accuracy. The characteristic of media motion is obtained based on the computer simulation analysis: macroscopically, the media in tower mill is a dynamic equilibrium state generally accompanied by spiral up and down movement all the time. And it has been found that the maximum lifting height is proportional to the rotation speed of agitator shaft. The velocity of media at the edge of screw stirrer is biggest, while the velocity of media near the cylinder wall is smaller, so the grinding performance between the two ring areas is the best. The rotational speed of agitator shaft and media filling ratio are the two most important operating parameters in tower mill. The impact curve of two main operating parameters on the grinding intensity and energy efficiency are obtained. All these can provide theoretical basis and technical support for operating parameters setting of industrial tower mill."

With reference to the test report carried out by Guangzhou Nonferrous Metal Research Institute in 1983, the mineral process flow sheet of Yichun Tantalum-niobium mine is determined based on the characters of ores and successful experiences in light of the problems in the existing flowsheet: The ore is desilted before crushing; the primary slime is separately treated; the staged grinding process used while the fine slime is collectedly treated with tantalum and niobium as the main recoveries and lepidolite and feldspar powder as the secondary. The flowsheet is featured by comprehensive recovery, low investment and low energy cost.
