"Because of the similar crystal structure and surface properties, it is very difficult to realize the efficient separation of magnesite and dolomite by flotation, which is the main reason restricting the utilization of magnesite resources with dolomite symbiotic. To deal with a magnesite resources with high content of calcium impurity in northwest China, a novel decalcification technology by combining flotation with leaching is proposed in this paper. In flotation process, a novel flotation collector with good efficiency and low temperature resistance was developed, and the depression effect of sodium hexametaphosphate was investigated. In leaching process, the leaching rate difference of calcium and magnesium was observed. By industrial test, from the magnesite ore with MgO content of 43.96%,the grade and recovery of obtained concentrate ( calculated by MgO) are 47.28% and 67.68% respectively, at the same time, CaO content decreases from 3.91% to 0.30%, which means that more than 95% of CaO impurity is removed.INTRODUCTIONMagnesite is one of the main raw materials for the production of refractory materials, and it is widely used in metallurgy, chemicals, ceramic, construction and other industries. China is the most important supplier of highquality magnesite resources, accounting for about 60-70% of the world's identified supply of magnesite products is provide by China (Jewell, 2014). In recent years, high-quality magnesite ores can be directly used are going to run out in China, and the utilization of magnesite resources with high impurity content have drawn more attention.The main purpose of purification for magnesite is to remove SiO2 and CaO impurities which affects the strength of the refractory material. Flotation is the commonly used method to remove impurities in magnesite ore. Reverse flotation with cationic collector is usually adopted to remove silicon containing impurities, and a great deal of literature has been reported (Santana A. N. and Peres A. E. C., 2001; Wang and Sun, 2008; Zhu et al, 2014; Wu et al, 2015; Ivan B. et al, 2017). But when the major gangue component is dolomite, it is very difficult to realize the efficient separation due to the similar crystal structure and surface properties between magnesite and dolomite. To solve this problem, researches have studied the surface properties of magnesite and dolomite, such as wettability, electrical property, solubility and solution chemistry (Nermin and Nurgul, 2006; Nermin 2006; Ozbek and Abali, 1999; Lacin et al, 2005; Bayrak et al, 2006; Bakan et al, 2006; Chen G. and Tao D., 2004), but the commonly studied direct flotation using oleic acid as collector is still hard to receive an ideal effect."

Anodic reaction mechanism of complicated antimony-lead concentrate in Slurry Electrolysis has been investigated by the anodic polarization curves determined under various conditions. The main reactions on the anode are the oxidation of FeCln (2-n), though the oxidation of jamesonite particle on the anode can occur during the whole process, it is less. With the help of mineralogy study and relevant tests, the leaching reaction mechanism of jamesonite and gudmundite during Slurry Electroly-sis has been ascertained also. Because of the oxidation reaction of FeCl3 produced by antimony-lead concentrate itself, the non-oxidation complex acid dissolution of jamesonite, the oxidation complex acid dissolution of gudmundite, and the oxidation of air carried by stirring, the leaching ratio of antimony reaches to about 35% when using HCl-NH4Cl solution to leach antimony-lead concentrate directly. So given the theoretical electric quantity, which to oxide antimony in Slurry Electrolysis, all of antimony, lead and iron, which contained in antimony-lead concentrate, are leached.

With the general trend across all commodities towards the treatment of lower grade ores, it is becoming increasingly important to develop efficient protocols for comprehensive mineralogical characterisation to allow the development of the most appropriate strategies for processing an ore. In the case of silver, there are more than 200 known silver bearing minerals which can make it challenging to identify them. Knowledge of the deportment of silver within an ore is one of the factors used to determine an appropriate processing strategy. Automated SEM-based tools are commonly used for mineralogical characterisation but the low-grade together with the large number of minerals that are potential hosts for silver means that often, complementary analytical tools must be used in order to properly account for the silver. The work presented in this paper is a demonstration of the approach that should be taken when identifying the deportment of silver in complex ores. Three complex, low-grade silver ores were characterised using the approach. The insights from the mineralogical characterisation were then used to inform the metallurgical testing that was undertaken. The results from the batch flotation testing clearly demonstrate the importance of understanding the mineralogy in order to select the most appropriate metallurgical processes.

In this study, selective flocculating of diaspore using anion macromolecular reagent as flocculant was tested to separate diaspore from alum-silicate minerals. Firstly, the effect of pH on settling behavior of diaspore and kaolinite dispersions has been investigated. The results show that the maximum settling speed of diaspore and kaolinite appeared re-spectively at pH7 and pH3.33 which is close to the point of zero charge (PZC) of diaspore (6.8) and kaolinite(3.5). This result is in well agreement with the double electric layer theory. Secondly, the settling behavior of diaspore and kaolinite particles in different anion flocculant solution have been researched. The results indicate that flocculant solution concentration significantly affect the selectivity and the flocculating performance of anion molecular. In high concentration solution, both diaspore and kaolinite have faster settling rate compared to blank solution. How-ever, in low concentration solution, the anion macromolecular can enhance the settling rate of diaspore remarkably but has no apparent effect on the settling rate of kaolinite. This result suggests that the tested anion flocculant is a promising reagent for de-silica of diasporic bauxite. Lastly, FTIR method was employed to probe the adsorption mechanism of flocculant on diaspore and kaolinite. The results reveal that there are anion flocculant characteristic bands on the spectra of diaspore but no obvious characteristic bands of flocculant on the FTIR spectrum of kaolinite. This result is in good correspondence with settling test.

In this paper, the hydrophobicity of chalcopyrite particles produced with different laboratory mills has been studied; different grinding mechanism in themills made some changes in particles shape, Image Analysis (IA) method was used to determine the shape properties of chalcopyrite particles which are ground by a laboratory ball mill, rod mill and ceramic ball mill. The shape characters are stated in terms of shape factors such as circularity, convexity, roundness and regularity factor. Hallimond tube was used to float chalcopyrite particles followed by determination of critical surface tension of particles, this parameter used as a criterion to study the wetting behavior of chalcopyrite particles. The correlation between shape properties and critical surface tension of chalcopyrite particles showed that the hydrophobicity of chalcopyrite was affected by the shape. Investigations showed that the circular, round and more convex particles that produced with ceramic ball mill had lower hydrophobicity with higher critical surface tension (?c). The results also showed that the hydrophobicity of particles ground by ball and rod mills increased with the decrease of roundness, circularity, convexity and regularity factor of particles. In this study, batch flotation experiments were conducted to recover rare earth elements (REE) from an REE ore deposit in the Mushgai Khudag area, Mongolia. Apatite was found to be the major REE mineral while monazite and xenomite were observed as minor minerals. The main purpose was to float apatite to increase the REE content. Oleic acid was used as collector and MIBC was used as frother. Sodium silicate was used as a depressant for iron compounds. NaOH was used to adjust the pH of the flotation to about 9.5~10.0. The particle size was 90% less than 152 ?m (- 100 mesh). The content of REE elements was analysed by ICP - OES to determine the contents of REE such as Ce, La, Nd, Pr and Y. When sodium silicate was used, the best result was obtained using 0.2 mL of sodium silicate, 2 mL of oleic acid and 2 mL of MIBC. Under these conditions, the recovery of REE was about 78% and the grade of the first froth product was 42,995 ppm Ce, 24,088 ppm La, 14,236 ppm Nd, 4,388 ppm Pr and 1,570 ppm Y. When conducting flotation after iron minerals were removed by magnetic separation, a better result was obtained; with 2 mL of oleic acid, 2 mL of MIBC and no sodium silicate, the recovery was increased to 90% and the grade was also increased to 58,600 ppm Ce, 28,624 ppm La, 17,160 ppm Nd, 5,348 ppm Pr and 1,971 ppm Y.

"Lithium discovered in La Vi deposit, Quang Ngai province in the Central of Vietnam was estimated with a reserve of approximately 1.5 million tones of lithium ore, which was characterized by mainly lepidolite with muscovite, albite, and quartz. This study investigated reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions of enrichment technology for lepidolite from the mined ore by flotation process, and producing Li2CO3 and LiCl from lepidolite concentrate by hydrometallurgical process. The significant conditions for froth flotation of lithium ore including particle size, pH of ore slurry, pulp density, chemical spending (collectors, activators, depressants, and frothers), stirring and flotation time were investigated. The identified reasonable flowsheet and optimal conditions for froth flotation the La Vi lithium ore processed lepidolite concentrate containing up to 4 wt.% Li2O with a recovery of 87.61 wt.%. The processes of sulfation roasting lepidolite concentrate using FeSO4.7H2O, then leaching in H2SO4 solution, and removing impurities were carried out to prepare a pure lithium-bearing solution for producing Li2CO3 and LiCl. The products containing 99.05 wt.% of Li2CO3 and 99.02 wt.% of LiCl were obtained with recoveries of 82.97 wt.% and 85.77 wt.%, respectively. The obtained results indicated that lithium ore in La Vi deposit can be processed to produce commercial lithium products and lead the study to develop technology for a new industry of lithium processing in Vietnam.INTRODUCTION Lithium is the lightest metal, which has many superior properties in both metal and compound (such as Li2CO3, LiCl...) states since its discovery in 1817 by Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson. Lithium is a favourable material for many high technology fields such as aerospace industry and chemical industry. Some industrial fields which present the main consumptions of lithium include ceramic, glass, aluminum alloy, lubricants, rechargeable Li-ion batteries, synthetic rubber, and pharmaceuticals. The worldwide production of lithium in 2014 was 31,700 tones, continually increased in 2015 of 5% presented 32,500 tones (USGS, 2016). The demand for lithium tends to increase because of the raising in consumption of lithium batteries. Lithium is mined from salar brines, mainly in Chile and Bolivia, but also from granites and pegmatites, which contain minerals with high lithium content such as spodumene - LiAlSi2O6 (Heinrich et al., 1978; Linnen et al., 2012); petalite - LiAlSi4O10 (Sitando & Crouse, 2012); zinnwaldite - KLiFe2+Al(AlSi3O10)(F,OH)2 (Paukov et al., 2010; Kondás J. & Jandová J., 2006); lepidolite - K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2 (Luong et al., 2013); and amblygonite - LiAlPO4F (Garrett, 2004)."

Various factors that control the natural flotability of talc, including differences due to crystal face and edge effects, were delineated. For study of talc depression phenomena, dextrin was used as a model depressant. For the enhancement of talc flotation, dodecylammonium acetate (DDAA) was used as the collector. The interaction of DDAA with talc was assessed by flotation experiments and electrokinetic (zeta potential) measurements, from which the role of hydrophobic bonding can be demonstrated. The results presented in this paper provide useful information on how the crystal chemistry and surface chemistry control the electrical double layer, adsorption phenomena, wettability, and flotation behavior of talc in aqueous media.

The production of minerals for human use at locations other than the Earth is expected to ?advance ? human prosperity in ? ways that [do] not compromise the potential prosperity and quality of life of future generations? (Brundtland, 1987); in other words, sustainably. This paper examines the interaction of extra-terrestrial mineral production (ETMP) with the following sustainability imperatives: ? The sustainability of human activities on Earth; ? The sustainability of human activities elsewhere; ? Human survival in general, the ultimate sustainability goal. Some of the consequences of mineral production on Earth are widely considered to decrease the future prosperity and quality of human life. Examples include noxious by-products or wastes and unsettling economic up- and downswings. Moving mineral production activities to extra-terrestrial locations, where appropriate, will decrease many of its deleterious effects. Terrestrial mineral production presently is decreasing in some countries and increasing in others, moving from the cheaper and easier ores to more expensive, difficult materials. When the full costs of maintaining the terrestrial environment in a sustainable manner are included, total mineral pro-duction costs must increase. The cost of extracting mineral products from extra-terrestrial sources will be substantially higher, especially in the initial phases, but as the full costs of terrestrial production increase, at some point in the future (different points for different minerals), the curves will cross (Fig.1). This will occur at different points for different materials, a process whose prediction will be complicated by substitution of cheaper materials for some uses as prices of the original material rise. In summary, mineral products from extra-terrestrial sources will tend to increase the sustainability of human civilization, once steady state has been reached.

Coal sorting with an x-ray-transmission (XRT) sensor has experienced a lot of development since first described by Jekinson et.al. in 1974. Powerful computers and increasingly sensitive X-ray scintillation counters enabled the development of high-performance sensor-based sorting machines. The first industrial installation of a belt-type XRT-sorting for coal is in operation since 2004. It is upgrading high quality coal from 1% ash to 0.7% ash for cathode production. In comparison to the high quality coal which is treated with a belt-type sorter, the chute type sorter has been successfully optimized for high volume coal treatment of lower quality coals. This project was funded by the German Environmental Fund (Project Nr.244444). In cooperation with the RWTH Aachen University and Isambane Processing, CommodasUltrasort(now Tomra Sorting Solutions) conducted extensive pilot test work under production conditions in 2010 for the destoning of power station coal at Arnot Power Station in South Africa. The experience gained during this pilot test phase led to an optimized, redesigned PRO Secondary XRT Chute sorter which is now in operation at a South African coal mine. This flexible semi-mobile modular destoning plant is treating a size range of -120 mm +30 mm at a throughput of 150 tph. The implementation of this plant not only reduces the ash content, abrasiveness index and sulfur content significantly, but also reduces royalties, water treatment and transport costs.

"Comparative atmospheric H2SO4 and H2SO4 + H2O2 leaching experiments were performed using a Turkish lateritic nickel ore containing 1.52% Ni. In the leaching tests; acid concentration, temperature and leaching time were considered as main variables and the dissolution behaviour of the ore were studied by Ni, Fe, Co and Mg analyses. The dissolution values in the H2SO4 leaching experiments were observed to increase up to 60% (w/w) acid concentration and a temperature of 95°C. Increase of H2SO4 concentration above 60% at 95°C caused decreases in all the dissolution values and this was attributed to the formation of Fe2(SO4)3 and Fe2(SO4)3•HSO4•H2O type compounds. At the considered optimum H2SO4 leaching conditions ([H2SO4]= 45%, T=95°C, t=45 min); dissolution values reached for Mg, Ni, Fe and Co were determined as 99.12%, 95.58%, 92.63% and 78.37%, respectively. An activation energy of 30.57 kJ/mole was determined for nickel dissolution from the evaluation of the kinetic data obtained for H2SO4 leaching showing that the dissolution was controlled by external diffusion and chemical reactions. Caro’s acid solutions were prepared at H2SO4/H2O2 mole ratio of 3 for varying initial H2SO4 concentrations and leaching tests were performed at 25°C. Co behaved very differently and a dissolution value of 83.94% was obtained even at 5% acid concentration in 60 minutes reaction time. Complete dissolution of Co was obtained after 30 minutes of reaction time at 60% initial H2SO4 concentration and the corresponding dissolution values for Mg, Ni, and Fe were reached to 96.16%, 94.27% and 89.46%, respectively. Although the H2SO4 + H2O2 leaching experiments were conducted at 25°C, it was realized that the temperature of the leaching medium was increased to 122°C after four minutes of reaction time due to probable exothermic reaction(s) at 60% initial acid concentration."

In order to investigate the effect of nanobubbles on adsorption of surfactant on mineral surface, the nanobubbles on the surface of calcite with -37µm fraction in the sodium oleate system were controlled by pressurization and decompression to mixing vessel. Subsequently, the adsorption amount of sodium oleate on the surface of calcite were detected by ultraviolet spectrum at different stirring times and different pressures. At the same time, the nanobubbles on the calcite surface were imaged with atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, a homemade vacuum Hallimond tube device was used for the flotation of single mineral, and the grade and recovery of minerals in concentrate was used to determine the influence of the nanobubbles on flotation. The experimental results showed that a large number of nanobubbles were found on the calcite surface by AFM under the dissolved oxygen difference (DOD) condition of -4 mg/L. And a large difference in adsorption capacity of sodium oleate on the surface of calcite was observed under different air pressure conditions. It indicated that the ambient pressure had a certain effect on the adsorption of sodium oleate on the calcite surface, and this effect did not depend on the constant low pressure or constant normal pressure, but depended on the changing process of pressure. The single mineral flotation experiment results indicated the recovery of calcite under decompression condition (formation condition of nanobubbles) was 1.5-2 times that under constant normal pressure, and the flotation time is much shorter. Moreover, the recovery under constant normal pressure was greatly influenced by flotation time. In this paper, only one aspect of the effect of nanobubbles on mineral flotation was preliminarily explored. It was confirmed that after vacuum-pumping, the adsorption of sodium oleate on calcite surface could be increased, the flotation time also was greatly reduced and the recovery of calcite was increased.

"The purpose of the research is to monitor ball mill filling by means of signals usually measured in its electrical drive. The method is based on the mill torque estimated from rotor speed and induction motor stator voltage and currents. New signal processing is presented in both time and frequency domain for measurements in a dry laboratory ball mill. Statistical analysis is applied to time series resulting in good correlation to mill filling. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and power spectral density (PSD) also resulted in an accurate filling indicator. The proposed method does not need any sensor to be installed directly on the mill and requires only sensors usually available for motor control purposes. The experimental results showed that the method have potential to be used to construct an automatic system for monitoring operational variables in ball mills. The aim of this monitoring is to improve energy efficiency, reliability and productivity.INTRODUCTION Recently, a great number of papers have pointed the importance of ball mill filling monitoring and also of grinding control (Lu, et al., 2014) (Ramasamy, et al., 2005) (Tsamatsoulis, 2014) (Zhou, et al., 2009). Additionally, great amount of control techniques have also been presented with several complexity degrees (Tsamatsoulis, 2014). According to Eremenko (2015) the lack of effective and accurate methods for fill level measurement is the main reason that makes mill optimal control so complicated. It happens because nonlinearity, long time delay and time varying features of the ball mill turns difficult to develop a truly efficient method for monitoring filling. At the same time, fill level has a determining role in charge motion and consequently on particle breakage. For low levels of filling many energy is expended in impacts with very low breakage efficiency. Those impacts can also damage mill liner. In contrast, high levels of filling causes damping effects that reduces breakage and can also affect energy consumption. Based on this it is conclusive that fill level measurement of ball mills is an important issue for grinding efficiency. This fill level information can be used for operators to control ball mills and also for engineers to run simulations and improve confidence levels of circuit designs (Shi, 2016)."

"In mineral processing, density and magnetic susceptibility are two very fundamental properties. For the beneficiation of valuables to produce a saleable concentrate a detailed understanding of these properties is essential. Especially when it comes to the processing of cassiterite, which is the main mineral for tin production, they become highly prominent. Due to the chemically inert character of cassiterite towards most industrial applied leaching agents, density and magnetic separation processes are mainly applied for its beneficiation. To guarantee an optimized utilization of the different operations not only cassiterite but also the different gangue minerals have to be considered. In this study, a skarn ore is characterized by density and magnetic susceptibility. Therefore, the material was first split into different density classes by heavy liquid separation. The obtained classes were further separated by their susceptibility to finally obtain a density-susceptibility matrix. For this purpose, an isodynamic separator was used. A more detailed characterization of the materials is done via gas pycnometer, magnetic susceptibility balance and vibrating sample magnetometer to estimate the characteristics of density and susceptibility for the various classes. Further, the determination of the chemical assay and the mineral intergrowth by mineral liberation analysis is used to generate a three dimensional database for detailed characterization of the present ore. The objective of this study is to estimate potential material streams for a modular processing plant via characterization of the material for the entire deposit by the two afore mentioned characteristic properties. The established multidimensional data matrix, enables predictions for the separation properties of the material and contributes to the characterization of the deposit within the context of geometallurgy."

A new technique has been developed for comprehensively recovering tantalum niobium tungsten ore by adoption of stage grinding, stage separation, combination of flotation and gravity separation, gravity separation for coarse particles, flotation for fine ones, combination of ore-dressing and hydrometallurgy. The new type and high efficiency combinative collector mainly composed of benzyl hydroxamic acid is firstly used to treat tantalum niobium and tungsten slime, besides the new type equipment for gravitational separation ?YTF-C shaking table for fine particles is adopted to treat flotation rough concentrate, hence having notably enhanced both recovery and concentrate grade of fine tantalum niobium and tungsten minerals. The commercial test obtains the tantalum concentrate assaying Ta2O5 31.98% with recovery 43.44% and tungsten product assaying WO3 89.40% with recovery 76.02%. The developed technique provides a reliable approach and an effective way for comprehensive utilization of lean fine complex refractory tantalum niobium tungsten ore resource.

Thiol collector mixtures are commonly used in the flotation of base metal sulfides and platinum-bearing ores. There are synergistic benefits claimed for these collector mixtures, with mixtures lowering total dosage requirements, improving coarse particle recovery and the rate of flotation. Some of the secondary collectors are known to have frothing effects. Therefore, a previous study aimed to decouple froth and pulp effects and considered only the bubble-particle attachments in the pulp. This was achieved through microflotation experiments, where various ratios of the ethyl and isobutyl chain lengths of xanthates, dithiocarbamates and dithiophosphates were used as collectors. Results from these experiments showed a marked increase in galena recovery using mixtures of xanthate with either dithiophosphate or dithiocarbamate. In the current study, the froth phase was introduced in the form of batch flotation studies to determine whether benefits noted during microflotation experiments would be carried through to a more realistic froth flotation scenario. The findings show that there was no significant difference in the flotation recovery between the best single collectors and mixtures of these collectors. In addition, single collectors that behaved poorly in microflotation experiments showed good flotation performance in the batch flotation experiments. The differences between the microflotation results and the batch flotation results are attributed to differences in particle froth stabilizing properties and/or differences in energy input between the microflotation and batch flotation cells. The Bulgarian deposits of quartz-kaolin raw materials are localized in the NE Bulgaria. For many years, the quartz-kaolin sand separation has been performing by water washing technology. After wet separation the raw material yields two products ? washed kaolin (different grades) and quartz sand (different grades). Research and development program has started to improve the quartz-kaolin sand separation. The program has undertaken an increasing of processing capacity, to decrease the losses in the tailings and to provide production of new quartz sand grades. The kaolin-silica raw materials from Vetovo open mine and the technological tailings from Vetovo processing plant were characterized. It was established that there are a lot of losses of quartz in final tailings. New approach on kaolin-silica raw material separation was tested in laboratory scale. The test work was performed on Derrick Stacksizer screening machines. The results of laboratory experiment show that there are possibilities to increase the quartz sand recovery and to start the production new grade sand. The full-scale pilot test was performed including the following units: two Derrick Stacksizer screening machines equipped with 0.430 mm and 0.150 mm opening Derrick Urethane Panel, respectively; Flat bottom DN 500 Hydrocyclone and DN 100 Hydrocyclon. The pilot test data clearly demonstrate that the Derrick Stacksizer screening machines are suitable for Bulgarian silica-kaolin raw material. Based on the test data a new quartz-kaolin separation technology was developed. The new technology was introduced in Vetovo processing plant increasing processing capacity and decreasing the losses of quartz in final tailings. Additionally the production of silica sand grade PK 0.16 is increased and starts the production a new grade PK 0.10.

In this study, the authors investigated the capability of an acidic thiourea solution and silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c, PSTM-3T) as ion-exchange resins to recover of gold from gold-bearing ore concentrates. Firstly, elemental gold present in flotation concentrates was dissolved by leaching with a solution of nitric acid and thiourea under the optimized conditions. The best result on gold thiourea leaching was obtained under a nitric acid concentration of 2 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and oxidant (Fe2(SO4)3) concentration of 3 %, solid:liquid ratio (S:L) of 1:20, leaching time of 6 hours at 20 °C with a gold recovery of 93.7 % for a gold flotation (unroasted) concentrate. For the roasted gold concentrate, the dissolution of gold was 94.8% under the optimized leaching condition as nitric acid concentration of 0.5 N, thiourea concentration of 2 %, and the oxidant concentration of 1 %, S:L ratio of 1:10, leaching time of 4 hours at 50 °C. Secondly, a series of sorption tests was carried out on a pregnant leach solution containing gold complex Au[S=C(NH2)2]2+ using silicon-organic polymers (PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T), respectively. The effects of solution pH, adsorption time and temperature in the sorption process are also studied. As the results, the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were adsorbed about 94.4 % and 95.1 % gold from the pregnant leach solutions under the optimum sorption conditions, respectively. It was found that the both PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers were effective for the recovery of gold from the pregnant leach solution of thiourea. Adsorption activity of the PSTM-3c and PSTM-3T polymers was confirmed by new peaks near 1700 cm-1 in the FT-IR spectrum of the gold-adsorbed polymers, respectively.

The Fankou Mine in Guangdong province, China, processes a polymetallic ore containing averagely 4.2% Pb, 8.5% Zn, and 90 g/t Ag. The main metal minerals including sphalerite, galena and pyrite are very finely disseminated and unevenly occurred in the ore, making it difficult to liberate them from each other. This paper presents the processing technology of the Fankou plant and the characteristic features of the novel technology applied.

Mill liners play an important role in the operation of a mineral concentrator influencing the throughput, availability, power drawn and the efficiency of the mill in the plant. Liners protect the shell and transfer energy to the grinding charge. Metso Technology Development has conceptualized, developed and successfully implemented physics based 3D DEM simulation techniques to predict charge motion, power drawn, energy spectra and wear over the life of the liner. This paper will present a case study of shell liner optimization for a 34? SAG mill including the input data requirements, and shell liner optimization methodology using the 3D simulations that eliminates the need for the traditional expensive and lengthy proto-type testing. These simulations will cover ball and particle movement, liner wear and mill power draw, and do not cover particle breakage and slurry flow. Even the liner manufacturers lack the ability to provide this type of qualitative and quantitative information on their products. The data from these simulations provides the plant engineers a scientific basis for their decision making and thus eliminates guess work. Keywords: liner, optimization, multi-physics, 3D-DEM
