This investigation is concerned with the optimization of ultrafine grinding of solids. It is focused on a dynamic classifier for recovering the fine fraction, for automatic recycling of the oversize particles and for reducing power consumption. Power consumption plays a major role in these energy intensive processes and depends on several parameters such as nature of the solid, degree of fineness of the finished product and, above all, grain size of the feed. This study indicates the optimal conditions for a dynamic classifier, that is, geometric characteristics of the apparatus and its capacity, inlet air flow rate and dimensions of the classification circuit. It is also shown that a mean grain diameter (dm) of about 2.00 µm with top size (dmax) of 50 µm can be achieved with an imperfection value of below 0.40 and energy consumption of 215 kWht-1. Uranium plants are generally located quite far from conversion plants, resulting in high transport costs. One way of reducing such costs involves putting more uranium in each drum by increasing the final product?s bulk density, which can be achieved via mechanical compaction of the powder and/or improved precipitation. For most of its plants, AREVA has adopted the latter approach, involving a new precipitation process applicable to all kinds of yellowcake produced (via uranates, uranium peroxide, etc.) that achieves bulk density of 3 for soda uranate, for example, instead of the 1.5-2 density available via conventional processes. At present, this process is being undertaken on an industrial scale and will become the norm for precipitation processes at all AREVA U plants. In addition to producing dense yellowcake, the process also delivers a product with no fines, a spherical particle shape (which allows for high-quality powder flow) and superior post-precipitation filterability

ST Equipment & Technology, LLC (STET) has developed a processing system based on tribo-electrostatic belt separation that provides the mineral processing industry a means to beneficiate fine materials with an entirely dry technology. In contrast to other electrostatic separation processes that are typically limited to particles greater than 75µm in size, the triboelectric belt separator is ideally suited for separation of very fine (<1µm) to moderately coarse (300µm) particles with very high throughput. The high efficiency multi-stage separation through internal charging/recharging and recycle results in far superior separations that can be achieved with a conventional single-stage free-fall tribo-electrostatic separator. The triboelectric belt separator technology has been used to separate a wide range of materials including mixtures of glassy aluminosilicates/carbon, calcite/quartz, talc/magnesite, and barite/quartz. An economic comparison of using the tribo-electrostatic belt separation versus conventional flotation for barite / quartz separation illustrates the advantages of dry processing for minerals.

Coke combustion during sintering process is significantly governed by coke breeze size distribution, which in turn affect sinter quality i.e. sinter granulometry, Tumbler index, Reduction Degradation Index and Reducibility Index of sinter. To know the effect of microfines of coke breeze on sintering process parameters, pot sintering tests were conducted and it was found that when microfines are eliminated and optimum coke size (1-3mm) is used yield of sinter increased by more than 7%. Similarly productivity increased by 9%, the strength of sinter i.e. ISO Tumbler Index increased by 2.3% and +10mm sinter size increased by 5.5%. Controlling of microfines during crushing and by improving crushing index will result in improved quality and productivity of sinter with lesser amount of coke breeze. This paper describes that how to optimize solid fuel i.e. coke breeze consumption in sintering process through granulometry control. Bubbles around 1 mm diameter provide the high interfacial area for capture and transport of hydrophobic particles in flotation. The formation of such fine bubbles is commonly achieved by addition of frothers that appear to simultaneously retard coalescence and promote break-up. High inorganic salt content in process water can substitute for frother. In this work we focus on the action of salt (sodium chloride) on formation of bubbles by break-up. An experimental setup that isolates break-up from coalescence was employed. A pocket of air is exposed to controlled mechanical turbulence to produce single bubbles by the induced deformation of the air and the events imaged. The presence of salt is shown to produce smaller bubbles than in water alone. Comparison with a similar study on frothers is made. The argument is advanced that the presence of frother and salt creates surface tension gradients at the air/water interface which add to the mechanical energy of the deformation and break-up process.

Magnetization in slurry (MIS) of weakly magnetic minerals by iron ions was investigated. The magnetic seeds (strongly magnetic particles) were synthesized by ferruginous chlorides directly in slurry instead of previous preparations of magnetic seeds by finely grinding mineral magnetite or specially synthesizing them separately in an aqueous solution. In this way, the growth of the seeds and their adsorption on the minerals simultaneously take place in the same slurry. That after MIS the recovery of weakly magnetic mineral limonite in a magnetic separator increased means the formation and adsorption of magnetic seeds on the surface of iron mineral limonite. The magnetization effect was evaluated by limonite recovery at a magnetic strength of 3.500 Gs in a magnetic separator. Mineral limonite was properly magnetized in the following slurry condition: molar ratio of Fe3+ to Fe2+1:3, slurry temperature of 45 °C and pH 10.5. The selectivity of the magnetization between minerals limonite and quartz was improved by adding surfactant sodium oleate.

The per capita energy consumption in India is 510kgoe/year, the global average being nearly 1818kgoe/year. Correspondingly low is the per capita CO2 emission at 1.25t against the world average of 4.39t.65-70%, at times more, of India?s power generation from about 190,000 MW installed capacity, is however coal fired.India therefore has to secure diversified sources of energy and solar power is increasingly being looked as the real alternative to the existing over dependence on coal. To ensure sustainable solar power it is essential to secure its raw material base that is ?silica?, hitherto considered as ?minor minerals?. That calls for immediately addressing the issues of land availability, solar power cost, developing a dynamic inventory of silica containing minerals, appropriate processing technology and strong regulatory framework for sustainable mining and processing of all silica rich minerals. Beneficiation and dephosphorization of refractory oolitic hematite ore are investigated in this paper. It is shown that single magnetic separation, gravity separation or flotation is unable to recover iron effectively from the ore due to the complex mineralogy. The joint separation by spiral chute-shaking table shows a prospect for the treatment of the ore. An iron concentrate with 58.67% iron grade and 51.93% recovery is obtained by the joint separation of spiral chute and shaking table under the fineness of ?0.074mm 90% and dispersant dosage of 2kg/t for a sample ore of 37.51% Fe and 0.88% P. However, P content in the concentrate is still up to 0.52%. Dephosphorization from the concentrate is hence carried out. The final iron concentrate assaying 59.26% Fe and 0.056% P is obtained when the concentrate obtained by joint separation is leached by sulfuric acid of 1% (mass fraction) with solid percentage 10% at room temperature for 10min.

Copper metal has important role in the basic industrials, as if it did not exist, modern human life would not develop! Copper leaching, as the first step, is important step in copper production processes. In this research, efficient factors on the leaching have been investigated. For this reason, four efficient factors on leaching namely pH, liquid to solid ratio (L/S), temperature and time, as independent variables, were optimized using response surface (RSM) with D-optimal. A quadratic equation was used to create response and contours. According to the results from analysis of variance (ANOVA), the value of determination coefficient (R2=96.77%) indicates that the model was good fit. Optimum experiment condition also was found: pH of 1, L/S of 8.24, temperature of 26.06 ? and time of 43.64 min. At this condition, the maximum recovery of copper was equaled to 92/38 in which good desirability achieved.

Mechanochemical activation of starting minerals and their effect on the solid-phase synthesis and properties of ceramics with lower thermal expansion coefficient was examined. The mineral mixture, pyrophyllite-gibbsite-lithium carbonate, was prepared for the synthesis of ?-eucryptite (Li2O•Al2O3•2SiO2). Dry grinding using a planetary ball mill promoted the amorphization of the starting mixtures. XRD and FT-IR results showed that the crystallization of the target materials occurred from the ground mixtures by calcination. The crystallization of them increased with increment of grinding time and calcination temperature. In the synthesis, the trace of undesired phases such as quartz and cristobalite once formed during calcination at the temperature range from 750 to 850 °C almost disappeared and monophase ?-eucryptite was formed in the ground mixture at 950 °C. Improving reaction effectiveness of asbestos tailings and acid is main means to increase the productivity of magnesium hydroxide and amorphous silica and to reduce production costs. In this paper, the process optimization of acid-leaching reaction process of asbestos tailings is reported. Through the orthogonal experiments of four influence factors, such as acid consumption, reaction temperature, reaction time and initial acid concentration in the leaching reaction. The experiment results indicated that the optimal process parameters were as follows: reaction temperature was 95?, reaction time was 1.5h, acid consumption was 218.9g hydrochloric acid(37%) per 100g asbestos tailings and initial acid concentration was about 25%. The influence significance sequence of the four factors was as follows: reaction temperature > reaction time > mass concentration of hydrochloric acid > hydrochloric acid consumption. Under the optimum process conditions, the leaching rate of MgO was 97.3%, total iron 98.15% and Al2O3 57.9%.

According to the difficulty of dolomite removal from collophanite,normal-reverse floatation process has been adopted in floatation with the use of highly selective collector G-4 and depressant S721. Good indexes of flotation have been obtained with the run-of-mine ore containing 17.96 % P2O5 and 2.31 % MgO being upgraded to a concentrate containing more than 30% P2O5 and less than 1% MgO. The reagent interaction mechanism in low grade collophanite flotation has been stu-died by FTIR analysis and theoretical calculation. The results indicate that the interaction between collector G-4 and collophanite is the result of chemical adsorption in combination with physical ad-sorption with chemical adsorption playing the major role. Depressant S721 adsorbs on dolomite surface to form a water film and effectively depresses the flotation of dolomite and reduces the MgO content in the concentrate.

Cationic flotation using alkylamines and their derivatives as collectors, and characterized by high selectivity of mineral particle separation, is finding ever growing industrial application. In recent years the industrial application has been initiated of new cationic collectors - alkylmorpholines. Efficiency of cationic surfactants operation as collectors is dependent upon their colloid and sorption properties and the availability of silicate .carbonate rock-forming mineral impurities in the ore, which sorb the cationic collector. Investigations have been carried out on the influence of frothers and organic depressors with various compositions upon physical-chemical and flotation properties of alkylamines and alkylmorpholines. On the basis of these investigations requirements for organic depressor were developed and new flotation reagents were proposed (V-1 frother and KS-MF depressor). The use of new reagents enables one to decrease considerably the consumption of expensive cationic collectors and to enhance the floatability of coarse mineral particles. Data of new reagents industrial application is presented. The reagents developed can be used for flotation processing of other ores.

"Frothers offered by different manufacturers are marketed with some information on their chemical and physical properties (e.g. density, viscosity, color, water-solubility, safety/toxicity, etc.). But frothers are used in flotation to generate fine bubbles and to stabilize the forth, and this information is only provided in a very qualitative description of the visual appearance of bubbles and froths. The terms “powerful” and “selective”, which have been commonly used to characterize frothers, have intuitive rather than scientific meaning.This paper introduces the DFI (Dynamic Foamability Index) plotted vs. CCC (Critical Coalescence Concentration) diagrams to classify flotation frothers (Fig. 1). The frothers characterized by low CCC and high DFI values have properties of strong flotation frothers, while those with high CCC and low DFI values are more selective. The proposed frother classification system, based on simple CCC and DFI measurements, provides, for the first time, a solid ground-work for characterization of the flotation frothers."

Copper recovery via Solvent Extraction (SX) process is a well-known technique, which is practiced commercially for approximately 40 years. The main advantages of the SX process are: an absence of using high temperatures (not more than 50oC), complete recycling of barren solutions, very high selectivity at removal and purification of metals, metal conversion to a form, suitable for easy subsequent recovery. Despite the wide acceptance of Solvent Extraction, it does have some shortcomings, namely SX employs large quantities of volatile organic substances. This leads to huge plant ?footprint? of SX circuits. The SX is very sensitive to low temperatures and quantity of total suspended solids in feed solutions and this causes bad phase disengagement times and therefore poor process performance. And most important ? low grade solutions (with copper concentrations below 1 gram per litre) are very unattractive for treatment via Solvent Extraction process, because capital costs for SX plants are not a direct function of copper tenor in the feed. The combined process with Ion Exchange (IX) and Solvent Extraction ? further called IX/SX by IONTECH Engineering was developed. This combination eliminates SX negative characteristics shown above. The key findings of the IX/SX process are; (1) recovery of copper from pregnant leach solutions with metal concentrations, varying on a broad range; (2) can be operate effectively with very low-graded copper pregnant leach solutions; (3) the construction of large ponds for pre-filtration of the pregnant leach solutions is not necessary; (4) working with turbid solutions and solutions containing large quantities of suspended solids; (5) winter operation without troubles; (6) strongly reduces organic losses; (7) technological approach lead to plant sizes reducing. This paper reviews the main stages of the combined IX/SX process, the applications for metal recovery and introduces projects where the process is applied. Key findings of the process are also presented. A comprehensive technical comparison between processes has been carried out. This paper also evaluates the advantages of using combined IX/SX technology as a purification and separation step in copper production process, with the aim of further increasing the overall copper recovery and to ensure that a suitable copper concentration in the advanced electrolyte is achieved. The implementation of a Ion Exchange (IX) process in the classic Solvent Extraction-Electrowinning process(SX/EW) is found to be beneficial for processing of pregnant leach solutions both from spent and new copper heaps and dumps, acid mine drainage and other industrial streams without any preconditioning as well as in terms of achieving improved recoveries and copper cathode quality.

"Due to an increasing demand for nickel and cobalt and the depletion of nickel sulphide deposits worldwide, the production of ferronickel from lateritic nickel ores becomes more significant. About 60 percent of nickel reserves are present in laterite deposits. Common production methods like acid leaching or smelting operations implicate high material and energy consumption. Physical processing methods are also not efficient, because of the fine microstructural intergrowth of the minerals carrying valuable elements such as nickel and cobalt. Due to the high energy consumption of metallurgical treatment of lateritic nickel ore (nickel grade: 0.8 - 3.0%, Co: 0.05 - 0.15%), the separation of waste material (about 75 - 85%) before the metallurgical treatment is desirable. Therefore, an alternative process has been developed, combining a pyro-metallurgical pre-treatment with selected mechanical processing methods. The developed process consisted of a selective pre-reduction and non-selective segregation of the contained metal phases in the first stage. By this, the properties of the metal carrying minerals were changed and could become subject to concentration by means of fine beneficiation processes afterwards. The parameters of the pre-reduction and segregation were varied and the pre-treated samples were examined concerning their efficiency of metalization grade and metal grain size. This paper describes the investigation of pre-treatment methods of a lateritic nickel ore. The pre-treatment and possible subsequent separation methods were examined with regard to the recovery of the valuable elements. Metalization grade was around 80% for both Ni and Co with metal phase grain sizes below 20 µm. Scanning electron microscopy revealed distribution of new metal phases not only on the reducing agent, but also on the “slag” material.INTRODUCTION Nickel laterites are characterized as strongly weathered regoliths with several zones containing reserves of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co). These laterites are formed on serpentinites and ultramafic rocks under climatic and/or tectonic conditions that have changed over time (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The formation of Ni laterites is influenced by numerous geological and environmental factors. In general, there are three ore types named according to the dominant Ni hosting minerals: oxides, hydrous magnesia (Mg) silicates and clay silicates (Butt & Cluzel, 2013). The most Ni laterite deposits contain two of these ore types, usually an oxide zone and an either clay or Mg silicate zone. Distribution of these principal deposit types, their average Ni-bearing phases and mean Ni grade are shown in Table 1. A schematic profile of the different deposits based on the development on serpentized ultramafic rocks is given in Figure 1 (Butt & Cluzel, 2013)."

In this investigation, the possibility of physical separation methods such as attrition scrubbing, hydro-cycloning and also reverse flotation were investigated for silica and calcite removal from relatively low grade kaolin. The head sample was provided by the Iran China Clay Company and the major oxides contained in the head sample were Al2O3, SiO2, CaO and Fe2O3 with grades of 15.07%, 71.05%, 4.35% and 0.52% respectively. The liberation degree of calcite and iron impurities from kaolin particles were over 80% for particles finer than 210µm and 53µm respectively. Attrition scrubbing tests were carried out with scrubber cell of the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Laboratory scale hydro cyclone was applied for the beneficiation of kaolin. Attrition scrubbing tests with control screen of 106µm did not achieve the desirable yield for purification of this kaolin sample, but hydro cyclone experiments resulted in better results. Hydro cyclone with 2.54 cm diameter used and the only variable was the cyclone inlet pressure ranging from 68.65kPa to 98.07kPa. The best inlet pressure was found to be 68.65kPa. Based on the optimized condition, Al2O3 and CaO amount in the hydro-cyclone overflow was 23% and 1.47% respectively. However weight recovery of the overflow in each cyclone experiment was less than 30% and multi stages of hydro-cyclones would have to be applied for higher weight recovery and better yield. All of the flotation tests were carried out in the conventional Denver flotation cell model D-12. Reverse floatation tests for calcite removal were carried out under alkali pH based on full factorial design of variables in 2 levels including one center point. The three parameters tested were collector dosage (gr/ton), pH and depressant dosage (gr/ton). The collected data from flotation tests were analyzed and optimized collector and depressant dosage were 1000 gr/ton and optimized pH was 8.5. Under the above mentioned conditions, calcite removal was about 75% and CaO content in the final product was reduced from 4.35% to 1.33%. However calcite removal will increase to more than 83% if the feed particle size in flotation tests is reduced from 210µm to finer than 53µm. Finally after optimization, the best working condition and possible flow sheet were developed.

"Natural graphite exists mainly in three types of amorphous graphite, flakes graphite and lump graphite. Graphite from Bao Ha mine, Lao Cai province is with 11.8 carbon-graphite %, forms in flakes and dense crystals. The paper presents the comparison among enrichment of Bao Ha’s graphite by two types of froth flotation with 90 g/t kerosene oil as collector, 50 g/t montanol 800 as frother, in natural pH, and at 20 wt.% of solid. The differences among three flow charts indicated that using middling flotation and re-middling flotation for the cleaning tails and the scavenger concentrates, the final concentrate was improved and containing up to 94 carbon-graphite % of flakes graphite, up to 82 carbon-graphite % of fine graphite with 93.48 % total recovery, moreover, carbon-graphite in the final tail is 0.86 % with 6.52 % recovery. However, a refining mill and a classification stage were applied before doing the middling flotation stages.1. INTRODUCTIONGraphite (black lead or plumbago) is used in many industrial applications due to its high electrical and thermal conductivity, lubricity, and chemical inertness. High quality graphite can be used in metallurgy, molding, brake linings, batteries, and fuel cells. Graphite, composed exclusively of the element Carbon, is rather common mineral, but fine crystals are rare. Graphite is soft (hardness: 0.5-1 Mohs scale); has a layered, planar structure; occurs in platy or acicular (occasionally) morphology (Minerals.net; Pierson, 1993).USGS (2017) reported, global consumption of natural graphite continuing increase in the period of 2012-2016. In 2016, China used up 35% while produced 66% of the world’s graphite. Graphite mining are being developed in Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia and Tanzania, but production reduced in Canada from 2015. Based on the statistic of Statista.com shows from 2011 to 2014 and a forecast to 2020, the global graphite demand is mostly in refractories, batteries, others, lubricant/crucible, foundry and pencil, and that is increase every year.Graphite Vietnam lies on the fault of the Red river from Yen Bai to Lao Cai, the reserves is estimated around 29.3 million ton and mostly in Lao Cai province where has Nam Thi graphite mine and Bao Ha graphite mine (MOIT, 2008). Vietnamese graphite products could reached to ~92% graphite carbon (Cg) (Tran Thi Hien et al., 2008). Studied samples was collected in Bao Ha graphite mine, is located in Lao Cai province. Graphite Bao Ha exists in two types as graphite flakes and amorphous (Hoang Thi Minh Thao et al., 2017)."

Surface organic microanalysis of platinum (Pt) and palladium (Pd) minerals by TOF MS1 is an attractive complement and potential alternative to conventional collector screening methods. Its attractiveness lies on its ability to focus on individual Pt and Pd mineral particulates, therefore providing a more targeted approach. The only requirement is knowledge of the occurrence (mineral composition, grain size and association) of Pt/Pd in the feed sample. This newly developed technique can detect, and identify collectors and quantitate loadings on individual Pt/Pd mineral particulates at plant concentration levels. Using this technology, collector loadings were measured on Pt and Pd metal plates and on PtS2 and PdS particulates which had been exposed together to aqueous solutions of different collectors. Thus, data were obtained on collector selectivity, the effect of sulphur; and of depressants, the latter in combination with TOF-LIMS2 results. Staged rougher tests on North American and UG-2 ores linked Pt/Pd flotation kinetics with collector loadings and ultimately grade/recovery.

The demand for high-grade iron ore has increased the importance of beneficiation of low-grade iron ores. The captive mines of Tata Steel Limited, India has reserves of Banded Haematite Jasper (BHJ) ore assayed 40% Fe, 40% SiO2 and <1% Al2O3. QEMSCAN study has revealed haematite and quartz as a major iron bearing and gangue mineral phases respectively. Liberation characteristics have showed 80% liberation can be obtained at particle size below 10µm. In the present study, reverse cationic froth flotation of BHJ using ether diamines is explored in Denver-D12 flotation cell. Polynomial response surface regression equation coupled with six-factor Box-Behnken design of experiments is used to generate the correlation between process separation efficiency and flotation parameters. Flotation studies of BHJ indicated that concentrate of 62% Fe can be achieved with 62% Fe recovery from Jig concentrate at optimum conditions.
