Many challenges are faced by workers in lower-seam (42 inches or less) mines. The lower-seam heights confine mine workers to their knees as they perform their daily tasks such as installing roof bolts, delivering supplies, repairing belt, or cutting coal. Miners working in these lower seams often consider kneepads to be their only line of defense against knee injuries. However, healthy knees do not start and stop with kneepads. Other interventions such as changing postures, proper hygiene, and work station design may also be used to reduce mine workers? risks for developing knee injuries. Incorporating these and many other interventions into a mine worker?s ?way of life? is an important step to ensuring a long, healthy career and retirement. Keeping knees healthy is also a key aspect to reducing costs in low-seam mines as the industry battles rising health care costs, and training/recruitment of replacement workers is time-consuming and costly. Educating the workforce about the possible interventions to reduce knee injury risk is a primary objective for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health?s (NIOSH) Pittsburgh Research Laboratory (PRL). Therefore, NIOSH researchers, along with industry and academia, developed a training package to educate the mining community about some possible interventions beyond kneepads that may be used to help decrease knee injury rates. Increased awareness and simple changes are the first steps to reducing knee injuries.

En el presente estudio se ha tomado en consideración diferentes aspectos geológicos que ayudan a determinar importantes controles estructurales que estuvieron activos en diferentes etapas de la evolución andina. El reflejo de la actividad de estas fallas se manifiesta por la presencia de controles estratigráficos, cambio brusco en la dirección de los ejes de pliegues y emplazamiento de pequeños cuerpos magmáticos, así mismo se encuentran relacionado al emplazamiento de mineralización de estaño, oro, uranio y tierras raras.

El proyecto Piel Canela está ubicado en los distritos de San Luis y San Bernandino en la provincia de San Pablo dentro de la región Cajamarca. La geología muestra unidades volcánicas del Paleógeno (Paleoceno – Eoceno/Oligoceno) las cuales se presentan deformadas. El basamento en el área de estudio está representado por secuencias de depósitos volcanoclásticos gris verdosos intercalados con flujos de lava, de manera concordante ocurre sobreyaciendo a esta unidad una secuencia de flujos piroclásticos de pómez y cenizas con intercalaciones de flujos de lava compactos. Además se observan en las partes más altas flujos piroclásticos de composición dacítica rica en cristales con coloraciones gris blanquecinas.

A new litho-structural map was derived from the airborne geophysical survey and the 3D inversions. The newly identified faulting structures are suggested to have played a key role in the gold mineralization control. Several kimberlite targets, whose magnetic response is similar to known diamantiferous kimberlite pipes occurring within the study area, were identified from the 3D inversion results. Enhanced spectrometric data imaging and their interpretation results helped detect several uranium targets occurring within the Neoproterozoic sediments and the Eburnean pegmatites of the basement rocks.

Litológicamente, las andesitas porfiríticas son las principales rocas hospedantes, seguido por dioritas y hornfels. Tectónicamente se han registrado tres eventos de deformación: El primero y el segundo están relacionados a una compresión regional NNE-SSO y NE-SO respectivamente, gobernadas por movimientos dextrales. El tercero está relacionado a una compresión regional ONO-ESE gobernada por movimientos sinestrales.

Antamina is the largest skarn in the world with a resource of ~2,968 Mt averaging 0.89% Cu, 0.77% Zn, 11 g/t Ag and 0.02% Mo (Glencore, 2015). The Antamina skarn surrounds an intrusive complex consisting of 4 porphyry centers comprised of at least 10 phases emplaced between 10.96 ± 0.03 Ma and 10.23 ± 0.07 Ma (U-Pb zircon; this study). Major phases in each porphyry center include: P1 (early), P2 (inter-mineral), and P3 (late). P1 is related to skarn formation; P2 and P3 cross-cut skarns and do not contain skarn alteration. Re-Os molybdenite ages reveal an early mineralization stage in skarns (10.58 ± 0.07 Ma to 10.39 ± 0.05 Ma) and a late stage in P2 and P3 (10.05 ± 0.06 Ma to 9.68 ± 0.05 Ma). Zircon and molybdenite ages generally decrease from NE to SW along the axis of the deposit, and record ~1.5 Ma of magmatic-hydrothermal activity

Determinadas facies de rocas carbonatadas pertenecientes a la formación Jumasha superior (Cretácico medio), son susceptibles a albergar mineralización económica de Ag-(Mn-Pb-Zn) al ser intersectadas por estructuras NE-SW que canalizan fluidos mineralizantes. Esto ocurre en Yumpag donde se ha definido un “horizonte prospectivo” de 60 a 100 m de calizas esencialmente limpias, con textura packstone a grainstone y fauna de foraminíferos que, al ser atravesada por una estructura de dirección N60 denominada Camila, ha permitido la formación de cuerpos mineralizados continuos en una longitud mayor a 1300 m.

Existen diversos métodos que se aplican en función de la etapa de desarrollo en que se encuentran los proyectos o empresas en marcha. Efficient, high volume, mine load out operations have evolved in recent years to include more sophisticated control systems that integrate with mission critical equipment such as weighing systems. Traditional weighing systems often involve static weighment of individual railcars and either manual or serial transmission of scale data to a database application. In recent years integration of railcar or truck weight data into a loadout operation via direct PLC or Ethernet communication between the weighing terminal and the loadout control system has been realized. Furthermore, use of dynamic railcar weighing where railcars are automatically weighed while moving has increased productivity in a variety of mining applications.

Exploration geologists commonly struggle to understand the technical specifications of remote sensing and field portable spectral systems. This often results in the selection of spectral systems that are inadequate for the metallogenic environment of interest, and in a myriad of processed imagery that rest uninteligible and unused.

Este estudio se basa en un probable nuevo descubrimiento de un yacimiento de Au, en las rocas del volcánico Llallahui (Grupo Tacaza – Terciario Medio a Superior), que podría estar ligado a la ocurrencia de yacimientos epitermales de Au del sur del Perú. Se trata de un yacimiento epitermal de baja sulfuración, emplazado en autobrechas y tobas donde mediente los análisis químicos de los muestreos realizados se determinó valores de leyes en Au 0,10g/TM a 0,81g/TM, estimandose recursos inferidos de 70MT @0,10-0,80 g/t de Au, lo cual convierten en un prospecto de gran potencial.

Consiste principalmente en rocas calcáreas de la formación de Portachuelo, evidencia de las secuencias marinas; rocas volcanoclasticas de la formación de Copará, evidencia de eventos de volcanismo, y rocas ígneas del Batolito de la Costa.
