El presente texto describe una metodología para el procesamiento de imágenes satelitales Aster, mapas geofísicos de reducción al Polo y mapas radiométricos, donde se determinaron zonas de anomalías hidrotermales y con alteración tipo argílica, fílica y propilítica. Para corroborar los resultados se realizó la interpretación de los resultados de la firma espectral de las rocas y el estudio de secciones delgadas y pulidas.

At this time it is expected that lists of symbols in general use throughout the country will be presented and the symbols most generally used will be recommended for adoption.

The Julius Kruttschnitt semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill model was developed by Leung in the 1980s and extensively updated to the variable rates model by Morrell and Morrison in 1996. Since then only minor upgrades have been incorporated in the version distributed in the JKSimMet simulator. A number of improvements, developed over the course of the AMIRA P9 project and in recent independent work, have now been incorporated. These improvements are based on a power-based model that directly relates the degree of breakage with energy consumption. The new size-dependent breakage function has been incorporated. The upgrades include more accurate predictions for a wide range of mill fillings (ten - 40 per cent), slurry hold-up in the mill, pebble discharge rate and the influence of changes in feed size and ball load.The paper presents the status of progress in the model development. The upgraded model will greatly enhance its application to challenging design and optimisation studies required to optimise the performance of SAG milling circuits.CITATION:Kojovic, T, Hilden, M M, Powell, M S and Bailey, C, 2012. Introduction The rapidly expanding and increasingly complex Canadian industrial structure, with the mining, metallurgical, and chemical industries as a large integral part, has, in recent years, brought greatly increased importance and value to our industrial minerals. In the modern economy of our mineral industry the importance which is due the non-metallics has been somewhat overshadowed by the great value of our large metal production and, in addition, by the glamour and fascination usually associated with the mining and treatment of gold ores. The term 'Industrial Mineral' is used in this paper in its usual sense and refers to non-metallics other than fuels. Coal and petroleum products, including natural gas, are considered as industrial minerals in those applications in which they are used for strictly chemical process purposes. Certain reduction metallurgical industries are so closely allied to chemical industries that for purposes been of this discussion no attempt has made to differentiate between them. Chemical industry in Canada today is a fairly large factor in our national economy, whereas in 1898, when the Canadian Mining Institute was born, it was very small indeed. Chemical concerns are largely dependent on industrial minerals for raw materials and process supplies and, as the country has developed industrially, so have the demands for non-metallics increased, not only by chemical industry but also by other large consumers, such as the construction and metallurgical industries. At the present time there is a greater than normal incentive prevailing for new discoveries, due to the serious lack of balance that exists in our import and export trade. This fact has resulted in intensive efforts to rectify the situation by locating new deposits and re-assessing those already known in an effort to enlarge and improve our home production of raw materials and also to extend their processing in Canada for our own needs and for export. The rapid advances in science and technology that have taken place since 1900 have also resulted in many cases of beneficiation and utilization of otherwise too low grade materials in order to satisfy current demands. The purpose of this paper is to indicate the history and the trends of the utilization of industrial minerals in established industry and to indicate the important part played by non-metallics in connection with the opening up of new industries. Some consideration has been given to the continual competition between natural and 'synthetic products and to the general tendency towards more rigid specifications.

Este articulo muestra cómo la implementación de un Sistema de Control de accesos y asignación automática del personal a sus equipos—basado en el intercambio electrónico de datos automatizados— hizo posible lograr, en mina Toquepala, un incremento en la producción de 4,824 t durante el turno día y de 3,990 t durante el turno noche, lo que significó un positivo impacto económico anual promedio por mineral procesado superior a los US$ 11 millones. Se evidenció asimismo una optimización en los tiempos de transporte y supervisión, además de haberse descongestionado el uso de la radio al inicio de turno.

Abstract : The computation of reliability index or failure probability of slopes can be transformed into an optimisation problem. In high rock slope engineering, it is usually a multimodal optimization problem. The traditional optimization techniques are difficulty to find out the global optimal solution because of their easily falling into local optimal value. Recently, a new kind of bionic algorithm - ant colony algorithm (ACA) - has been used to solve this problem. In this paper, the structure of ant colony algorithm and the transfer probability of ants are modified to evaluate the failure probability of complicated slopes. A new adaptive ant colony algorithm (AACA) is proposed to determine critical slip surface and its corresponding failure probability of complicated slopes. A case study is given to verify the proposed approach. The results show that the presented method has obvious advantages compared with traditional methods. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG: Die Rechnung des Zuverlaessigkeitindexes oder der Zerstoerungswahrscheinlichkeit kann sich in einer Optimierungsfrage umwandeln, im Bauprojekt an hoehe Gebirgehang, handelt es sich meistens um eine Optimierungsfrage ueber Multi- Spitzenwert. Mit der traditionelle Optimierungsmethode ist es schwer eine umfassende Loesung fuer die Optimierung zu finden wegen des leichte Verfallens in Beschraenkung der Teiloptimierungsloesung. Mit dem neue Bionik- Algorithmus —— Ameisen - Kolonie- Algorithmus wird dieses Problem geloest. In diesem Text hat man eine Strukturverbesserungsloesung fuer das Ameisen- Kolonie -system und die Wahrscheinlichkeit der Ameisenkolonie erwaehnt, und damit wird man die Zerstoerungswahrscheinlichkeit des komplizierte Hangs feststellen. Mit dem neuen Ameisen- Kolonie- Algorithmus kann man die gefaehrlichste Gleitflaeche und die entsprechende Zerstoerungswahrscheinlichkeit herausfinden. Die in diesem Text beschriebene Methode wurde durch Praxis geprueft. Durch die Pruefergebnisse wurde es gezeigt und bestaetigt, dass der neue Bionik- Algorithmus vorteilhafter als der traditionelle Algorithmus ist. Résumé : Le calcul de l’indice la fiabilité ou de la probabilité de ruptures peut être transformé en un problème de l’optimisation. Pour le cas du génie des pentes de haut rocher , le problème se pose en général en l’optimisation de multi-crêtes. Les techniques traditionnelles conduisent facilement à la solution optimal partielle au lieu de celle globale. Récemment un nouveau type de bionique algorithmique a été appliqué pour la solution de ce genre de problèmes, c’est l’Algorithme Colonie de Fourmis. Dans l’article il est proposé de modifier la structure du système de la colonie de fourmis et la probabilité de transfert des fourmis en vue d’évaluer la probabilité de ruptures des pentes de haut rocher complexes, par ailleurs un nouveau algorithme adapté de colonie de fourmis est formulé pour déterminer la surface glissante critique et la probabilité de ruptures correspondante. Les techniques proposées dans l’article sont vérifiées à travers des expérimentations dont les résultats ont prouvé que les techniques présentées dans l’article sont évidemment meilleures que celles traditionnelles.

The Rhodococcus opacus microorganism was evaluated as a biocollector for flotation of barite. The electrophoretic behaviour of the mineral, before and after R. opacus interaction, was evaluated and showed that the cells adhesion shifted the mineral zeta potential curves. Adhesion tests were suggested a high affinity of the bacteria for barite. The experiments of the adsorption rate of the R. opacus on the mineral surface showed fast kinetics, achieving a maxim of cell adsorption after 5 minutes. Adsorption isotherm curves for barite could be categorized as Langmurian (L) type II. The best bioflotability results for barite achieved values around 75% for a R. opacus concentration of a R. opacus concentration of 250 ppm in the pH around 5.0. The studies were compared with the flotation of barite using a traditional collector. The bioflotation experiments were discussed considering the obtained adhesion tests. The results were supported by the Thermodynamic approach for selected pH values. The fundamental flotation studies showed the paramount potential that R. opacus presents as a biocollector and its possible application in the mineral flotation industry.

A computer model, which quantitatively utilizes the relationship between the interactive and dynamic processes of methane drainage, mining, and ventilation, is presented. The model includes simulation of the coalbed methane reservoir for prediction of gas-emission rates under the influence of degasification wells and longwall mining, ventilation network-generation, and ventilation simulation. As mining progresses step-wise through the coalbed-methane reservoir, the ventilation network is created and subsequently simulated, iteratively determining fan requirements to safely reduce methane concentrations. The model can be used to quantitatively study the effectiveness of methane degasification on the ventilation system in a longwall panel.

Although the advantages of Solvent Extraction for separation/purification of relatively concentrated solutions are well known in Extractive Metallurgy, its use for the recovery of elements present in low levels only recently has been discussed, with particular attention devoted to precious metals. In this work, the extraction behaviour of Cyanex 471X towards silver, from an acidic chloride medium is reported, the extraction and stripping isotherms and related kinetic features analysed. Results on the selectivity of silver extraction against high contents of iron, copper and lead are discussed. Phosphine sulphide extractants are generally associated with solvation mechanisms: analysis of the extraction pathways along with the possibility of reaching a suitable loading in the organic phase are also presented.

Durante los últimos años, en las operaciones mineras subterráneas surgió la necesidad de contar con diversos mecanismos de control operativo orientados a la mejora de los procesos productivos. Actualmente estos mecanismos tienen muchas dificultades, principalmente en las comunicaciones, debido a la volatilidad de las labores, costos altos de instalación y daños físicos a los medios de comunicación existentes (fibra óptica, cables coaxiales y leaky feeder), lo que dificulta principalmente la extracción de datos de los equipos móviles livianos y pesados. En este trabajo se presenta un nuevo medio de comunicación que se adapta a la volatilidad de las labores mineras, tiene bajo costo de instalación y está exento de sufrir daños físicos en su trayecto, por lo que garantiza una alta disponibilidad y fiabilidad de la transferencia de información del subterráneo hacia los centros de control existentes, donde la información es procesada, a la vez que facilita la aplicación de los mecanismos de control para la optimización de los procesos productivos.

In 1932, as in 1931, the East Texas area outside the Gulf Coast exerted ' its influence over the entire petroleum industry. Practically 60 per cent of the oil wells completed in the United States during 1932 were in this area, development being chiefly confined to the East Texas oil field in Upshur, Gregg, Rusk, Smith and Cherokee counties. This East Texas area is geologically an interior salt dome basin, along the western edge of which are located the fault line fields as represented by Mexia and Powell. Production occurs on salt domes in the interior of the basin as represented by Boggy Creek and possibly Van, although no salt has actually been discovered in drilling at Van. Shore line conditions on the east side of this basin along the flanks of the Sabine uplift have been responsible for the East Texas oil field. Many known salt domes in the center of this basin have been tested but as yet have failed to produce oil in commercial quantities. The main producing horizon throughout the area is lowermost upper Cretaceous and is known locally as the Woodbine sand. The East Texas Oil Field Development.—Approximately 6000 producing wells were completed during the year in the East Texas oil field. No accurate estimate of the total initial production of these wells is available because few initial production tests were made as the wells were completed. The writer estimates the average initial production of these completed wells at 2500 bbl. per day while flowing wide open through tubing. Based on this estimate, the total initial production of the wells completed during the year is 15,000,000 barrels. At the close of 1932 there were approximately 9500 completed wells in the East Texas field. Of this number 176 were without pipe line connections. The oil produced from these unconnected wells could be marketed for $0.30 per barrel while the price paid for oil run from the connected wells was $0.75 per barrel.

Waste water produced from coal preparation plants posses several problems during dewatering and solid/liquid separation. The natural sedimentation rate of the particles present in colloidal and finely divided suspended form is very slow. Flocculation technology is being applied in most of the coal washeries to recover water which is being accomplished through the use of inorganic salts, polymeric flocculants or both depending on the chemical and physical characteristics of the pollutants present in the waste water. The waste tailing water from Piperware coal preparation plant, Central Coalfield Limited (CCL), India, is highly turbid containing ~ 16000 NTU with negative surface charge in the pH range of 2 to 10. Polymeric flocculants in conjunction with fine magnetite is investigated to achieve faster settling rate with lowest level of water turbidity. The conditions affecting the interaction between the reagents and the turbid particles present in the tailings water are investigated. It is possible to bring down the turbidity of the water to < 90 NTU from very high turbid tailing water by using 2 mg/L of the polymeric flocculent in combination with 0.1 g/L of magnetite at natural pH of the tailing slurry. It has been found that finely divided positively charged magnetite particles in combination with the flocculent selectively coat the negatively charged impurities present in water and thereby increase the settling rate under the influence of a magnetic field.

An investigation was conducted to determine whether mineral liberation data obtained by one image analysis technique are the same as data obtained by another image analysis technique. The liberated vs non-liberated, volume % and weight % techniques for measuring mineral liberations by image analysis were tested. The results show significant differences between the values obtained by the different techniques. The lowest liberation values were obtained by the liberated vs non-liberated technique and highest by the weight % technique. It is interpreted that the weight % technique produces the most realistic results. The weight % technique also produces data that can define mineral associations for the unliberated grains. These include (1) mineral quantities in particles that contain different amounts of unliberated mineral, (2) mineral quantities in particles that have different size ranges, and (3) mineral quantities and degrees of liberation for specific minerals in particles of different size ranges.

Thiourea leaching has been applied to a refractory gold concentrate previously treated by bacterial oxidation. Following the bio-oxidation, gold has been leached in acidic thiourea solutions, under different pH(1 - 2.4), thiourea concentrations (2 - 15 g/1), ferric ion concentrations (0.04 - 3 g/1) and temperatures (298 - 333 K). Through this procedure, it was possible to increase gold extraction from 40 to 77 per cent. The increase in temperature raised gold extraction and reduced reagent consumption. Sodium sulphite addition was also very effective in lowering thiourea consumption. Staged leaching operations with interstage acid washing and carbon-in-leach experiments were tested, in an attempt to increase gold extraction. The results of thiourea leaching were compared with those obtained with cyanidation.

This study evaluates the effects of both short inter-hole and intra-hole delay times on rock fragmentation and throw. Full-scale test blasts were analyzed at a granite quarry in Talbotton, GA. This analysis provides a representative understanding of timing effects on fragmentation in the field, different from previous lab scale studies that negate the effect of geology. Inter-hole delay times between 0 ms and 25 ms were tested on a series of 4 bench blasts and subsequently examined using photographic fragmentation analysis methods.

This study is intended to serve three roles. First, it represents a global overview and summary to supplement and complement the five regional companion volumes of the 1991 edition of the Minerals Yearbook International Review. In this regard, it also extends previous time series under this title that appeared as the introductory chapter to the international volume of the Minerals Yearbook from the inception of that volume in 1963 until it was subdivided into separate regional volumes in 1989. The basic statistical presentations herein generally contain data through and including that for 1991, although in a few instances the most recent statistics are those for earlier years because more recent, comprehensive global statistics simply are not yet available owing to delays in data collection and processing in some countries and continued governmental suppression of data in others. The second role of this study is to provide an update to the coverage of events impacting the world&apos;s mineral industry that have occurred between the end of 1991 and the preparation of this study. Inclusion of this update is almost essential because of the potential effect of some of these events on global mineral industry activities.

DURING the last half century a great amount of ingenuity and energy has been devoted to the invention of appliances for the recovery of valuable minerals from very fine sands and slimes. The reason for this is that in almost every dressing plant the greatest losses of values, considered relatively as well as absolutely, occur in the treatment of slimes. The natural aim of mill operators to minimize these losses has in recent years received another impetus, from the fact that the gradually diminishing occurrence of high-grade ores makes a more intense recovery of values from existing resources absolutely necessary for profitable operation. The results of such attempts are found in the appearance of a great number of machines and appliances which make it profitable to-clay to rework old dumps, containing the tailings of older processes. A constantly growing difficulty of obtaining skilled labor and the increase in wages made it prohibitory to employ those types of machines which required much attention, and in the middle of the nineteenth century the various concentrating tables of the percussion type, which automatically discharge their products, began to take the place of the intermittent tables, on which, when the bed had reached a certain thickness, operation had to be stopped in order to allow the skimming by hand of the separate layers formed on the table. In the course of years, two general types of machines evolved for the treatment of fine sands and slimes : The so-called concentrators and vanners, on the one hand, and the buddies and round tables on the other.1 For the profitable treatment of the very finest slimes, round tables have as a last resort proved more satisfactory and economical than other machines.
