"This paper presents a systematic approach to metallurgy diagnostics using an integrated gold deportment methodology developed for complex refractory gold and copper-gold ore bodies. Quantification of gold deportment for these ore bodies is a challenging task due to reasons such as lower grades, high variability of visible and invisible gold content in different sulphides and iron oxide phases, significant presence of disseminated and composite carbonaceous matters along with associations of various copper sulphide phases. Some case studies are presented in this paper to demonstrate the value of a high confidence gold deportment methodology in developing insights for problem diagnostics and to identify opportunities for metallurgical improvements. A holistic approach involving different fields of expertise is critical for successful development and delivery of solutions for complex ore bodies.INTRODUCTION Studies were initiated on various ore complex ore and also on samples representing various process streams. These complex copper-gold single refractory, double and triple refractory gold ores are mainly composed of silicates and/or carbonates with moderate amounts of clay and mica, along with minor amounts of sulphides and organic carbonaceous matter. Variable proportions of visible gold and “invisible gold” (sub-microscopic gold) were noted in different mineral phases for various ore types and process stream samples. Invisible gold commonly occurs as solid solution or as colloidal-sized particles in different sulphides (pyrite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and galena) and other phases (including hematite, magnetite and goethite) for different refractory ores. The dominance of invisible gold and presence of highly preg-robbing along with finely disseminated carbonaceous matters adversely affects gold recovery in flotation and leach circuits for most of these double and triple refractory ores. This paper discusses applications of an integrated gold deportment technique developed for different types of gold and copper-gold ores, namely, complex copper-gold, double and triple refractory gold ores (Chattopadhyay and Gorain, 2014; Chattopadhyay et. al., 2016). Various process streams from flotation and gold leaching circuits were investigated. Different concentrates and tailings samples from flotation circuits whereas feed and discharges from pressure oxidation (POX) and carbon-in-leach (CIL) residues were used from gold processing circuits."

According to the principle that should be originated from nature, compatible with nature, used in nature and back to nature and based on conception of designing of eco-material, the author combined the ideas of material, environment, zoology and healthy. Properties of natural mineral materials were used to produce micro-aggregate elements by bionic method, so its components and function could accord with living environment. Eco-mineral functional materials which can adjust, purify and optimize the microclimate were reviewed. The authors pointed out the multifunction, com-pounding, the compound characteristics and integration regularities of micro-aggregates. It was the first time in the world to put forward the ?gene? technique or ?material chip? technique of manufacturing function micro-aggregates and eco-function elementary materials. The results of this re-search supported by the national ?863? Hi-tech Project, mainly including the high-efficient air purifying mineral compound material indoor, the clay elementary antibacterial materials, the masonry cement/coating/putty/compound with preventing radon radiation, environmental friendly composite functional coatings, mosquito repellent and healthcare material and zeolite-based energy-saving composite materials, were introduced. Finally, the foreground of mineral materials in the field of future advanced eco-friendly materials was also discussed.

"The aim of this work was the study of the effect of the type (Fe3+, Al3+ and Fe3+ and Al3+ mixture) and of the coprecipitant concentration on As5+ removal by ACF. Removal of As5+ using Sodium Dodecylsulfate (SDS) as a collector was studied by Adsorbing Colloid Flotation (ACF) at laboratory scale. The morphology of the precipitate retained in the foam was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS).By comparing the coprecipitant type and concentration studies it could be concluded that As5+ removal in the presence of Fe3+ (160 mg.L-1) alone, or a Fe3+ (80 mg.L-1) and Al3+ (40 mg.L-1) mixture, is equivalently effective (99,9%) and greater than in the presence of Al3+ (80 mg.L-1) alone (97,7%).Through SEM/EDS analyses, it was possible to observe that both morphology and composition of the precipitate produced in the solution and retained in the foam depend on the physico-chemical conditions of the system, that is, on the species present in the solution."

"Arsenic-gold bearing ores are used as flux in smelting or are leached to extract gold. The main aim is to decrease the arsenic content in processed materials and to break up the ore lattice, thus liberating the gold. Some regulations were established by authorities for sulfidizing of arsenic bearing compounds in a presence of pyrite and for oxidation of ores and concentrates in the presence of soda.This article analyses the results of laboratory and pilot plant testing of dissociating and oxidizing roasting of gold-arsenic bearing concentrates. During the dissociation roasting under vacuum, arsenic is sublimated into elemental and sulfide forms. This process allows for the minimization of the negative influence on the environment, but requires costly engineering solutions. Roasting in a limited quantity of oxygen in the gaseous phase makes it possible to sublimate arsenic in the form of oxides and sulfides and it may be carried out in fluid bed furnaces.Oxidizing roasting of the concentrates in the presence of soda results in formation of water-soluble compounds and forces practically all arsenic and sulfur to remain in the cinder."

Systemic process mineralogy study on Baerbulawu refractory hematite ore in Kazakhstan has been carried out. The ore contains Fe 41.34%, and 87.26 % of which exists in hematite. Most hema-tite occurs as fine or ultrafine grains and its average size is only 0.015mm. The gangue is mainly composed of quartz, mica, chlorite, kaolinite and other clay minerals. The liberation of hematite is only 66% when the ore is grinded to 75% ?0.074mm, while part of gangue is already liberated from hematite under this grinding condition, so these gangue can be cast away by magnetic separation in advance. Hematite will not liberate completely from gangue untill grinding fineness reaches 86% ?0.038mm, at the same time, free particles of ultrafine hematite tend to coagulate randomly with quartz and clay minerals, so appropriate dispersant is necessary to pre-vent hematite and clay minerals from coagulation. Based on the process mineralogy research, final technology flowsheet is high-intensity magnetic separation by coarse grinding?rough magnetic concentrate regrinding?inverse flotation, and an ideal index is achieved. The yield of final iron concentrate is 43.46%, and its grade and recovery are 66.76% and 70.55% respectively. The research result is also useful to other similar iron ores.

"To meet the requirement of production expanding of a certain potash ore dressing plant in Xinjiang province of China, industrial test of XCF/KYF-50 flotation machine was performed to process potash ore. The tank of XCF/KYF-50 flotation cell is in U shape, 50m3 of volume. This flotation cell is able to suck slurry by itself, and can be arranged on the same base level without high difference. In this paper, two sets of XCF/KYF-50 flotation cells were adopted to replace 8 sets of 8m3 flotation cell in original flow sheet of flotation. Aeration rate, slurry suction capacity, power consumption and slurry suspension are investigated. The measuring results show the slurry suction capacity of the flotation cell is larger than 12.80m3/min and solid particles disperse evenly in the tank without deposition. Industrial test result indicates that the final grade of concentrate is 26.69% at the recovery of 90.95%, which is up to expected performance. XCF/KYF-50 flotation cell has advantages of high flotation efficiency, significant energy saving and reasonable configuration of automatic control system, this kind of flotation cell can meet the requirement of production expanding of this potash ore dressing plant well."

"Copper-bearing gold ores have proved difficult to treat in conventional cyanide leaching process owing to prohibitively high consumption of cyanide by readily soluble copper minerals interfering with gold extraction. Cyanide leaching of gold from copper-rich ores can be improved by intensive cyanidation or application of physical and chemical pre-treatment methods (e.g., ultra-fine grinding, roasting and leaching). In this study, nitric acid leaching of a copper-bearing pyritic concentrate (0.3% Cu, 62 g/t Au and 110 g/t Ag) as pre-treatment prior to cyanidation was investigated. The mineralogical analysis of the concentrate has revealed that it is composed of mainly quartz (25%), pyrite (32.7%), sphalerite (5.37 %), galena (2.12 wt %) and anglesite (1.13 %). Arsenopyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and bournonite were also detected as minor phases present. Previous studies carried out by the authors showed that direct cyanidation (1.5 g/L NaCN) of the as-received concentrate (d80: 80 µm) produced low gold (45% Au) and silver (46% Ag) extractions. Nitric acid pretreatment of the as-received concentrate was performed for 5 hours at 1-5 M HNO3 and 80oC. In these tests, 65% Cu/Pb and 94% Zn were leached. The nitric acid pre-treatment improved the extraction of gold and silver in subsequent cyanide leaching (1.5 g/L NaCN) to 82% Au and 87.5% Ag with a concomitant decrease (up to 54%) in cyanide consumption. It can be inferred from these findings that the removal of copper from the concentrate and the liberation of the occluded gold by nitric acid leaching as pretreatments can be appropriately employed for the treatment of the copper-bearing pyritic concentrate with high gold/silver content. INTRODUCTION Refractory ores are often characterized by their low amenability to cyanide leaching resulting low (often <80%) Au/Ag extractions (Bhappu, 1990; Celep et al., 2009; Marsden and House, 2006). One of the most common causes of refractoriness is the physical or chemical encapsulation of submicroscopic or fine-grained gold in sulphide minerals such as arsenopyrite and pyrite (La Brooy et al., 1994; Vaughan, 2004). To render refractory gold ores/concentrates amenable to cyanide leaching, the decomposition of sulphide minerals within a pre-treatment process to expose the encapsulated gold grains to the action of cyanide is required. In this regard, roasting, pressure oxidation and biooxidation are commercially used processes for pretreatment of arsenopyrite/pyrite gold ores/concentrates ahead of cyanide leaching (La Brooy et al., 1994). Presence of cyanide-soluble copper minerals in the ore leads to low gold recoveries and high cyanide consumptions under conventional cyanide leaching conditions. High cyanide concentrations (CN:Cu>4) should be employed to achieve high gold recoveries from copper-rich gold ores/concentrates. This may require recovery of cyanide from effluents. In this regard, SART Process (sulphidisation-acidification-recycling-thickening) employed industrially for recovery of cyanide and copper as a by-product. This process simply relies on the addition of sulphide (as Na2S, NaSH or H2S) to the leach solution prior to the acidification to pH 4-5. This results in the precipitation of copper as Cu2S and occurrence of free cyanide which is recycled to the leaching circuit after S/L separation (Dai et al., 2012)."

"In Brazil, there are no official reserves of molybdenum, and the unofficial reserves are modest. Therefore, the molybdenum ore (molybdenite) produced as a co-product or by-product of emerald mining in the region of Campo Formoso, BA, has arisen as the only economic option. The flotation process is commonly used in Brazil for the recovery of molybdenite from emerald mining tailings, but it produces low-content molybdenite concentrates, thereby resulting in a product with low economic value. The molybdenite concentrate produced in Campo Formoso contains 83.5% MoS2 (50% Mo), which is less than the international standard product that contains > 90% MoS2 (54% Mo).This low value is due to the presence of talc, which is a naturally hydrophobic mineral that is also floated with the molybdenite during the flotation process. Separability studies were done in a Partridge-Smith cell using dextrin and quebracho as a molybdenite depressor in solution at different concentrations and pH values to produce a technical-grade concentrate (i.e., 90% MoS2). These basic studies were accompanied by measurements of the zeta potential and contact angle, which was determined by the capillary rise method. The results of these floatability studies were used in bench flotation tests, which were performed in a Denver laboratory flotation cell. A molybdenite concentrate of 93.4% MoS2 was obtained when dextrin was used at a concentration of 100 g/t."

Laboratory test equipment and methods have undergone relatively little change since their introduction in the 1950’s. The Denver sub-A cell is still by far the most commonly used laboratory batch cell, but bottom-driven and instrumented cells are beginning to appear. Test procedures have also changed little over the past 60 years, and most engineers continue to rely on empirical models for predicted plant scale performance from laboratory scale tests. This approach is problematic, because changes in the froth phase characteristics in the lab hamper the reliability and reproducibility of the empirical extrapolation to plant scale. In a previous work, the authors reported on the impact of froth recovery at the laboratory cell, showing that variability in the froth recovery can lead to significant error in the modeled kinetic rate constant unless it is properly accounted for in the scale-up model. In this work, we review the role of hydraulic entrainment in the lab cell, and how variability in particle specific gravity, shape factor, and froth residence time can impact the entrainment recovery.

Many thickener operations continue to be constrained by their ability to process consolidated underflows with high yield stress and associated rheological characteristics. To maximise separation efficiencies within a thickener operation the use of both engineering and reagents are always considered. BASF is developing a Novel Flocculant Technology (NFT), which combines both of these aspects to enhance the performance of the thickener operation, improving the areas of pumping efficiency, underflow density and throughput. The development progression through stages of laboratory scale batch test work to pilot scale dynamic testing has demonstrated the ability of BASF NFT to maintain effective flocculation performance whilst increasing the rate of underflow consolidation, and significantly reducing the associated underflow yield stress of the treated material. This paper will present application data through full scale dynamic testing conducted on a granite washing circuit to demonstrate the performance benefits that NFT offers to a thickener operation. Compared to the conventional flocculant treatment, within the operation parameters and conditions employed during the full scale trials, the NFT produced a reduction in underflow rheology (yield stress) of around 45 % relative to a given solids and improved the underflow consolidation by providing at least 20% relative higher underflow solids loading than the upper limit of the given typical thickener operation. Oxidised lead-bearing ores of one of the deposits of Russian Federation represent complex raw materials. Its main components are lead (3.2%~4.7%), silver (100~300 g/t) and zinc (0.7%~0.8%). The sample is characterized as oxidized ore. Silicium (37.4%) and iron (33.2%) are its main com-ponents and present in oxide form. Lead presents as cerussite, anglesite and plumbojarosite have a subject role. Zinc occurs as smithsonite. Certain part of zinc is associated with manganese minerals (psylomelane-pyrolusite). Close association of valuables with manganese-iron mineralization is ob-served. Silver is present in native finely dispersed form. Three options of flowsheets have been developed to recover valuables from the ore. 1. Hydrometallurgical flowsheet of lead and silver recovery on the basis of chloride leaching. 2. Flotation. 3. Flotation -flotation tailings cyanidation. Hydrometallurgical flowsheet of ore processing on the basis of chloride leaching (option I) al-lows to achieve recovery into saleable products of 68.8% Pb and 70.2% Ag. High quality lead concentrate with 71.7% lead and 700 g/t silver was obtained during flotation (option 2). Flotation tailings cyanidation (option 3) provides 24% silver additional recovery (from the ore). Technical and economical evaluation demonstrated that ore flotation (option 2) and flotation with subsequent flotation tailings cyanidation (option 3) are the most cost-efficient. Option II is the most cost-efficient variant of 1 tonne of ore processing (9.05 US dollars).

In composite washeries optimization of operating parameters to achieve maximum clean coal yield at the desired clean coal ash level is a major problem. This problem is more acute in countries like India, which have predominant reserves of difficult-to-wash coals. The constrained operational parameters of washing for some equipments make it more severe. In addition to this, the dependence of separating performance of different equipments upon various variables aggravates the situation. Here an attempt is made to find a numerical solution to get maximum yield and minimize the difference between the actual and the theoretical yield. The solution is arrived through constrained non-linear optimization of a multivariable objective function that utilizes spreadsheet tools; the method accommodates any number of source coals or washing size fractions. By using a designed Ep value the predicted yield of composite clean coal has been calculated and the yield is optimized subject to constraints on both the ash and specific gravity. It is shown that operational constraints of different washeries in the composite plant that utilizes gravity separation methods can also be over-come. The technique offers the coal preparation engineer an effective and straightforward method for determining the optimum cut-points of separation for different coals or blended coals to obtain maximum product yield at a specified level of ash content.

"In this paper, scheelite and scheelite coated with Pb2+ (SC) were synthesized by chemical precipitation with the help of ultrasonic. The role of the Pb2+ on scheelite was evaluated. Additionally, the dissolution behavior of minerals and the adsorption mechanism of collectors were investigated systematically via SEM, XRD, EDS. The results indicate that the ultrasonic cavitation can promote the formation of scheelite with large particle size and high crystallinity. Due to the exchange of WO4 2- and OH-, the dissolution of scheelite are not in a 1:1 equivalent amount by chemical formula and the concentration of WO4 2- is higher than that of Ca2+ in the solution because Pb2+ promotes the transfer of WO4 2- from scheelite surface into the solution. The dissolution of scheelite is an endothermic reaction and its enthalpy reaches the maximum value of 692.59J·mol-1 at pH=8~10. But the coating of Pb2+ changes the thermal effect of scheelite in the solution and the dissolution of SC is an exothermic reaction with the dissolution enthalpy of -262.30 J·mol-1. At pH=8~10, the adsorption capacity of sodium oleate and salicylhydroxamic acid on the surface of SC is higher than that of scheelite which delivers that Pb2+ contributes to the scheelite surface dissolution and enhances the adsorption of collectors on the mineral surface, thus achieving activation.INTRODUCTIONIn modern society, tungsten is a type of quite important rare metal and also a strategic resource. Because of its low vapor pressure, high melting point, good electrical and thermal conductivity properties, it is widely applied in high-temperature technology, lighting, machine and engine construction (Zhao,Z.W, 2013; Yan, W, 2017; Ilhan, S, 2013). Both scheelite and wolframite are the major tungsten deposits. With the depletion of easily-processed wolframite, scheelite has drawn a great deal of scientific and industrial attention. Scheelite can be recovered by flotation due to the metathesis of polarity and chargeability on minerals surface via adding regulators and collectors."

"This paper reports the hydrometallurgical treatment of gravity concentrates of gold samples and outcrops associated with graphite ores obtained from:- flotation tailings of crystalline graphite minerals- outcrop samples of graphitic rock associated with auriferous minerals and free gold located in the Villa Union district and surrounding areas - La Rioja Province - Argentina.Previous studies of the flotation potential of crystalline graphite minerals failed to consider the presence of noble metals.The samples represent a mineralized zone of crystalline graphite which is distributed in different formations with a NE - SW trend in Maz, Punta Colorada and Las Ramaditas hills, covering an area of about 300 square kilometers.The most important variables affecting the leaching process, such as grain size, mineralogical species, reagent consumption, and so on, were previously studied. (Weiss, L.1985)On the basis of the present study results, the possible definition of an economically viable mineralization will be analyzed to define an auriferous district."

A practical an interactive model to describe the operation of a flotation bank of mechanical cells was developed based on the hydrodynamic and metallurgical characterization of large industrial flotation cells. Thus, the mineral grade and recovery, as well as the stream properties along the flotation bank can be described in terms of the operating variables. The model was built considering the flotation bank as a distributed system, so the solution for the water and solids mass balances, per size classes, for each single cell, are sequentially solved. Also, each cell was described by two distinct zones, the collection zone characterized by the flotation rate constant and the froth zone characterized by the froth recovery. The mineral feed was described in terms of the mineral species and particle size classes, using a rectangular flotation rate constant distribution. Also, the effect of changing the actual operating variables (air flowrate, pulp level, pulp density, pulp flowrate, etc.) on the mineral collection process, in the collection (pulp) zone, was considered downstream along the bank. The froth recovery of floatable mineral has been estimated by measuring the mass flowrate of particles entering the froth by true flotation together with the concentrate mass flowrate (ton/h). The mass flowrate of collected particles at the pulp/froth interface level was calculated from direct measurement of bubble load (ton/m3) and gas flowrate (m3/h). Flotation recovery is mainly related to the froth depth and air flowrate. All parameters considered in the model have been adjusted from direct measurements in plant site. Also, the effects of other operating variables such as reagents dosage, top of froth grade, or froth discharge velocity are presently under study. This procedure has been tested using data from industrial rougher operations consisting of flotation banks with 5 cells to 9 cells in series, and different cell sizes, such as 45m3, 130m3, 160m3 and 250m3. Thus, it has been shown that the model approach is a powerful tool for flotation cells diagnosis, operation and development of new control strategies, as well as, to evaluate the effect that de-sign and operating variables have upon the collection and froth zones performance in large flotation cells.

As the high-grade copper deposits in the world become depleted, there is an increasing focus on developing lower-grade ores which contain problematic impurities such as arsenic. Indeed, many high-arsenic ore bodies remain undeveloped because of their high arsenic levels. Separation of arsenic from copper at the beneficiation stage is difficult using the current processing techniques and invariably copper concentrates produced from these ores contain high arsenic levels, sometimes so high as to make them unacceptable to copper smelters. New, sustainable approaches are needed to allow development of high-arsenic copper ores while at the same time minimizing arsenic dispersion into the biosphere. The most promising route for separating arsenic from copper at the flotation stage centers on the use of pulp potential control. In recent years CSIRO has demonstrated at laboratory scale, for a number of high-arsenic copper ores, that crude flotation separation between arsenic-bearing minerals and copper-bearing minerals can be made. The differences in specific minerals responses to changes in pulp potential and pulp pH are exploited for this separation. Such separations nominally produce a low-arsenic high-copper concentrate and a low-copper high-arsenic concentrate. The former can be smelted without penalty, while the latter requires further treatment to capture and stabilize the arsenic and to recover the residual copper. Consideration has now been given to treatment options for the high-arsenic low-copper product. A pyrometallurgical option, involving a low temperature roast to selectively fume off the arsenic and leave a high-copper calcine, coupled with an arsenic stabilization step, has been demonstrated in the laboratory, and a preliminary techno-economic evaluation shows the process to be economically favorable. These results were recently published. CSIRO has now investigated an alternate hydrometallurgical option, involving atmospheric alkaline sulphide leaching of the high-arsenic product, where the arsenic is selectively dissolved leaving a copper-rich leach residue. The leaching testwork was carried at on the same high-arsenic low-copper material used in the roasting studies, enabling a techno-economic comparison of the alternate roasting and leaching treatment options to be made. The alkaline leaching work is briefly described and the results of the process option comparison presented and discussed. Water constitutes one of the most valuable resources employed in mineral recovery and processing. Identifying potential problems encountered in mineral processing in waters unusable for drinking or agriculture (including seawater and even hypersaline waters), understanding chemical factor interactions, and optimization of flotation reagents will greatly expand our ability to create more sustainable beneficiation technologies. The current paucity of our knowledgebase regarding high salinity effects on flotation clearly signals a need for a significant research effort. We report here results of a study designed to probe effects of pulp chemistry on metallurgical performance in the flotation of Cu and Cu-Mo ores in saline waters. The results clearly demonstrate that pH (more correctly dosage of pH modifier to target a pH set point) has the most significant effect on Mo recovery when using seawater. This is linked to the formation/precipitation of Mg(OH)2 when pH = 10.3 (in seawater). The type of pH modifier used, NaOH or Ca(OH)2, had no impact on Cu or Mo recovery, indicating that Ca2+ ions were not involved in any reduction in Mo recovery in the pH range of 9-11. Our results in tap water spiked with either Ca2+ or Mg2+ ions in the same pH range (controlled by NaOH), confirmed that Ca2+ ions had no effect on Cu or Mo recovery, but that addition of Mg2+ ions had a severe adverse effect on Mo recovery at pH = 9.5, and to a lesser extent on Cu recovery. The onset of Mg(OH)2 precipitation occurred at a higher pH, and the adverse impact of Mg(OH)2 on Cu recovery (and perhaps Mo recovery as well) was less, in sea water than in tap water spiked with Mg2+. These effects are attributed to the mitigating role of the high electrolyte concentration, notably NaCl.

The performance of Knelson Concentrators (KC) used in gravity gold circuits often rely on manufacturers recommendations for selecting operating parameters such as, fluidising water flow rate and cycle time. These parameters are not only dependent on the machine parameters but also on the feed characteristics such as, size distribution of the gold and gangue particles and the composition of its constituent minerals. Particles entering a KC experience a centrifugal acceleration due to the high bowl rotational speeds. The required centripetal force to maintain a circular orbit is provided by the fluid drag force created by inwardly moving fluidising water and the Bagnold?s force arising from the particle/particle collisions. When the fluidising water flow rate is low particles move towards the outer rim of the bowl forming a packed bed within the grooves. On the other hand, if the fluidizing water flowrate is high the bed expands and some particles would move towards the centre of the bowl and gets carried to the tailings stream, thereby reducing the amount of material retained within the grooves of the bowl. Based on a force balance on a particle captured within the KC, a criterion which can be used to predict the amount of material recovered in the bowl has been derived and validated by experimental data. It has been shown that this criterion may be used to demarcate the transition of the bed from a packed-bed state to a fluidised state depending on the fluidizing water flowrate. By identifying the conditions for the optimal expansion of the bed comprising different constituent mineral particles, it is possible to estimate the optimal fluidising water flow rate that would maximise gold recovery while minimising gangue recovery. It was also observed that the accumulation of valuable mineral in the bowl takes place by the displacement of the gangue particles in the bed by the incoming heavy mineral particles. The kinetics of this segregation process was also studied using synthetic mineral mixtures. The experimental data suggests that this process follows first order kinetics and that the build up of heavy mineral reaches a maximum which could be used to identify the optimal cycle time. In this work, the suitability of the above model in optimizing the performance of a KC have been reviewed. Also the necessity and merits of testing an unaltered feed samples in a larger KC as op-posed to the commonly adopted GRG test has been discussed.

In the article results of experiments over jaws? linings in jaw crushers with different shaping of working surface were presented. Following sets of jaws were under investigation: immobile plain jaw and moving jaw with grooving surface. Grooving jaws have groves with circular, triangular and trapezoid cross section. In order to evaluate efficiency of comminution both the grain composition of product and the content of irregular grains were determined, as well as the size of crushing forces and process efficiency were measured. For the combination: plain jaw with grooved one, a good results were obtained as regards the grain composition of product and the content of irregular grains. Crushing forces were higher at crushing with mixed types of jaws (the one plain, the second grooved), in comparison to crushing with using both grooved jaws. Efficiency of the process was definitely higher for mixed jaws.

"Deep concentration of iron ores involves extraction, in addition to magnetite concentrate, of hematite and martite concentrates and recovery of other valuable components. A flotation technology was designed specifically for finely disseminated hematite ore, allowing producing saleable hematite concentrate containing 64-66% Fe. The main process challenge is caused by the presence of other ferruginous minerals such as carbonates, silicates, and phosphates, and fine hematite and martite mostly concentrated in the -0.044 mm fraction. Main operations of the processing circuit are removal of slime, flotation to remove impurities (carbonates, phosphates etc.) with an anionic phosphorous collector in an alkaline environment, hematite and martite flotation using same collector in a slightly acidic environment to produce commercial iron concentrate. Tailings of wet magnetic separation of magnetite containing 24.5% Fe and finely disseminated hematite ore containing 51% Fe were processed to produce iron concentrates with a yield of 15% and 50%, respectively, containing approximately 65% Fe and 5% of silica. Hematite flotation tailings had the highest content of gold (up to 0.09 - 0.11 g/t), while in other products it never exceeded 0.02 g/t. Using a Knelson concentrator was able to recover 40 to 45% of the gold into 3.31 g/t Au gravity concentrate. The success of gravity concentration is due to high gravitational contrast of gold to mostly quartz and aluminosilicates in the hematite flotation tailings. In general, the proposed process can be used as a solution to the challenge of selective concentration of finely disseminated iron minerals."
