O objetivo deste trabalho foi implementar a célula de atendimento a prioridades dos clientes na ArcelorMittal Tubarão (Cockpit de Atendimento a Clientes), com foco na melhoria dos indicadores relacionados a entrega para clientes e visando reduzir a burocracia e barreiras organizacionais de forma a agilizar a tomada de decisão e consequentemente agilizar o fluxo dos pedidos prioritários na usina, desde a produção de aço até o despacho de produtos. O projeto foi implementado em etapas, com destaque para duas frentes, sendo uma de gestão da mudança, com a implementação do conceito de gestão por processos e em paralelo toda a implementação de infraestrutura sistêmica para suporte ao processo. Seis meses após o inicio do projeto a implementação do conceito de Gestão por Processo, de baixo custo e alto impacto no negócio trouxe uma evolução significativa nos indicadores de atendimento a cliente, com destaque para a consecução de atendimento aos pedidos prioritários que saltou de cerca de 30% para patamares acima dos 90%, assim como o lead time total de atendimento a pedidos que foi reduzido em cerca de 30%.

Devido a sua alta demanda de produção e padrão de qualidade a indústria automotiva tem utilizado ao longo da história robôs nas mais diversas atividades como montagem, soldagem, pintura e inspeção. No intuito de levar esta realidade para a sala de aula de alunos de Engenharia Mecânica, foi desenvolvido um braço robótico didático, apresentando configuração semelhante à um modelo industrial, a ser utilizado como ferramenta de apoio ao ensino de robótica e outras disciplinas correlacionadas. Para isto, fez-se o uso associado da placa eletrônica Arduino e do software Matlab. Inicialmente foram obtidas as equações de cinemática direta e inversa. Os resultados mostraram que a posição teórica obtida apresentou um comportamento esperado conforme a metodologia adotada e o resultado experimental mostrou pequena variação de posição. Para a cinemática inversa, o tempo de resolução do conjunto de equações foi comparado à resolução do problema através de um método numérico. Com base nos resultados experimentais, foram feitas algumas sugestões de melhoria para o braço robótico didático e considerações relacionadas a acurácia de um robô industrial.

The importance of optimizing equipment replacement decisions becomes more critical each year due to the rising costs of buying new equipment versus maintaining old equipment. Replacing equipment when it is physically worn out, or replacing it too soon or too late relative to its Economic Life (when it is economically worn out), is very costly. After extensive literature review and research, Kennecott has developed its Equipment Replacement Guide (ERG) system which identifies, evaluates, and justifies the replacement of uneconomical equipment. The system considers such critical factors as inflation, decreasing work capability, increasing maintenance/repair and operating costs, taxes, time value of money, return on investment, salvage value, and investment tax credit. These factors are used in a system of equations which balance the costs of new equipment against the total operating costs of old equipment. The solution of the equations determines the Economic Life of equipment. Replacement of equipment at the determined Economic Life will earn the specified, required return on investment that is used in the calculation of the Economic Life.

THE purpose of this communication is to present activity data of nickel in the Ni-A1 binary system that was obtained for oxidation studies in this system. This data has been calculated from previous aluminum activity data at 1000°C1,2 by two types of Gibbs-Duhem integrations. These results should be of particular current interest to oxidation studies of aluminide coated nickel-base superalloys3 as well as other problems. The aluminum activity of Steiner and Komarek1 is plotted in Fig. 1 as a function of composition in Ni-A1 alloys at 1000°C. The dashed parts of the aluminum curves represent our approximate extrapolations from the directly measured regions. In the terminal solution regions (a and L phases) standard parabolic solution functions of the following form are assumed: where i is the component subscript, Ki is a constant at a fixed temperature, and xi is the atom fraction. The resultant nickel activity curve at 1000° C from the Gibbs-Duhem integration4 of the aluminum data is shown in Fig. 1. The solubility ranges of the phases present in the Ni-A1 binary at 1000°C are also denoted at the bottom of Fig. 1. Corresponding values of the nickel activity, aNi and yNi, are listed in Table I at useful compositional intervals. including phase boundary values. The aNi and yNi data listed in Table I are subject to the uncertainties present in the experimental aluminum activity data1 and to deviations from parabolic solution behavior in the terminal solutions. The errors introduced into aNi and yNi due to the parabolic solution assumption are expected to be relatively small (<20 pct of the values given) in all the phases except the liquid phase. State and federal agencies during rehabilitation of existing bridges may require the existing bridges to be evaluated under seismic conditions. If the bridge does not perform under the seismic event, the bridge may require seismic retrofitting. Bridges are classified as: Critical, Essential, and Others according to their importance. Geotechnical considerations play a major role in evaluating the bridge behavior under a seismic event. Subsurface conditions influence the magnitude of ground acceleration and hence the forces and moments on the superstructure. This paper will provide a detailed description of the geotechnical aspects associated with the seismic retrofit evaluation for the 12th Street and 14th Street Viaducts located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The paper will also present a description of the geotechnical investigation program including seismic cross-hole surveys to determine the dynamic soil parameters, including the results of site-specific response spectra for both the 475 and 2475-year events. Liquefaction assessment methodology utilizing an equivalent factor of safety will also be described and the design method used will be summarized. In general, the pile foundation is modeled as 6x6 foundation stiffness matrix with 36 stiffness coefficients at the center of the pile cap. The seismic loading on the foundation is evaluated in a pseudo-static analysis, where the dynamic earthquake-induced loads are presented by static forces and moments. The computer program FB Pier was used to evaluate the foundation stiffness. The moments, axial loads, and shear are input into the FB Pier model. The stiffness of the foundation is determined and the results are then input into the Structural model to determine new forces and displacements. Adjustments are made until the loads are compatible with the stiffness used. The understanding of the geotechnical conditions at the 12th Street and 14th Street Viaducts and the coordination between the Bridge and Geotechnical Engineers were able to provide significant cost saving to the Owner. The Design Engineers were able to retrofit the existing Viaduct foundations with reasonable number of additional piles. It is believed that the results and finding presented in this paper will benefit both the Bridge Engineers and Geotechnical Engineers by highlighting the importance of interaction between the two disciplines.

The industrial minerals industry in the Atlanta, Ga., area was studied in order to better understand problems associated with exploiting mineral resources in and near metropolitan areas. A method for delineating the Atlanta urban area and its component parts was developed so that the factors affecting the location of the minerals industry could be viewed mere objectively in the urban context. Major attention is focused on the area&apos;s dominant crushed stone subindustry Demographic and socioeconomic analysis of the Atlanta, Ga., area shows that expansion of the metropolis and its environs will probably eliminate potential mineral resources from the mineral resource base in the area, and that the expanding metropolis will be the primary determinant of future mining sites. Competition for land is accentuated to varying degrees by the incompatibility of wining operations with residential and other environmental requirements. Areas of consideration are suggested to provide maximum development of land and resources for greatest economic benefits it minimum social cost. Further research is recommended to determine market locations in urban areas, optimum operating levels for industrial minerals plants, and alternatives to surface mining.

En Piura, el bosque seco tropical desaparece a un ritmo de 20 mil hectáreas anuales. En respuesta a esta situación, Compañía Minera Miski Mayo desarrolla, desde septiembre de 2012, el “Proyecto de forestación y manejo forestal comunitario de las áreas de la mina de fosfatos Bayóvar”, en el que participan activamente los pobladores del área de influencia, asociaciones de ganaderos y otros actores locales. Este proyecto plantea una intervención integral que permite la forestación y el manejo sostenible de extensiones de bosque seco despoblado, bajo un enfoque que asegura el equilibrio ambiental y el equilibrio económico a través de la generación de cadenas productivas, tanto como la mejora de la calidad de vida mediante la contratación de mano de obra local y el aprovechamiento de los nuevos recursos.

Durante los siete meses de operación de la planta concentradora Mallay de Compañía de Minas Buenaventura S.A.A., surgió la necesidad de integrar nuevos equipos en los circuitos de molienda y flotación. En ese sentido, el presente trabajo describe la forma de optimizar las recuperaciones de valores y calidad de los concentrados a través del proceso de flotación de plomo, plata y zinc, queemplea como base de cálculo la producción obtenida entre los meses de julio a octubre del 2012, dado que en este período se estabilizan los parámetros de molienda, adición de reactivos y circuitos de flotación.

Surface mining operations typically require run-of-mine material to be sized for further processing. In-pit crushing facilities serve this need, as stationary, semi-mobile or fully mobile units. Although in particular fully mobile crushing facilities have been in use for over half of a century, other surface mining techniques have typically been implemented. However, with increasing operating costs in truck and shovel operations, and other economic considerations, mobile crushing plants are increasingly a viable option. The operational and economical parameters in relation to the optimal surface mining equipment selection will be reviewed. The role of the mobile crushing technology within the continuous vs. noncontinuous surface mining operation and basis for mine planning are also discussed. Current applications and respective case studies will be reviewed. Key performance indicators will be presented. These performance parameters can be viewed as a tool to aid in the equipment selection process. The future direction for further research and development in mobile crushing facilities will also be presented.

Los operadores de las chancadoras y productoras de piezas fundidas de las fundiciones buscan el desarrollo de nuevos materiales y diseños para los mantos y revestimientos de cóncavo y así mejorar el desempeño de las chancadoras. En ese sentido, el presente texto describe la innovación en el diseño de dichos mantos -en tanto el desgaste de la parte superior de este es menor debido a las condiciones de impacto. Por ello, el diseño del manto se realiza en tres niveles: superior, media e inferior, de forma que la parte superior dura más que la parte media y la parte inferior es menos duradera, dada las condiciones de abrasión. Asímismo, le otorga al operador mayor libertad para reemplazar las piezas por separado de acuerdo con el desgaste que representen.

The Interior Department&apos;s Bureau of Mines is the Federal Government&apos;s primary research arm in the mineral and fossil-fuel fields. In accordance with its Organic Act of 1910, the Bureau&apos;s responsibilities have been reinforced since the passage of the Federal Metal and Nonmetallic Mine Safety Act of 1966, the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969, and the Mining and Minerals Policy Act of 1970. An on-stream shale detector has been developed that is suitable for use on conveyor belts carrying iron ore of up to 200 mm particle size. The shale is distinguished from high-grade iron ore by means of the substantially greater total natural gamma-ray activity (400-3000 keV) of the shale, which is due to the presence of uranium (214Bi), thorium (208TI) and potassium (40K). Other gangue materials, sueh as highly siliceous cherts and jaspilites, escape detection because of their low activity. A dynamic trial of the shale detector at Mt Whaleback, using a large-volume (100 &#215; 100 400 mm long) &quot;Polyscin&quot; Nal(TI) gamma-ray detector, demonstrated that as little as 20 tonne of ore on a conveyor belt (equivalent to partial truckloads of ore) can readily be monitored for shale content.

During the dissolution of gold in fully aerated cyanide solutions the CN ion is the active agent, and consequently the usual method of evaluating the dissolving power of such solutions is to determine the CN- concentration analytically. The presence in the solutions of copper and/or zinc which themselves form complex cyanides, may result in erroneous conclusions as to the free cyanide ion concentration determined by titration.In this paper the theory of titration of such solutions has been developed, and potentiometric methods have been used to follow the behaviour of complex cyanides of copper and zinc. The results for cuprocyanides show Cu (CN)s to be the most important copper complex, and in addition they explain the reported low rates of solution of gold in copperbearing solutions which when titrated in the usual way, appear to have adequate free cyanide. An explanation of the misleading value of the titration is given, and suggestions for recognition of the condition are offered. Preliminary results for zinc-bearing solutions show that there is no satisfactory end-point for the titration of CN- in excess of that in the complex Zn (CN) 4=, which dissociates to CN and Zn(CN)g-.

The Rosia Montana gold deposit is located within the æGolden QuadrilateralÆ area in the Apuseni Mountains of Transylvania, Romania. The deposit is situated approximately 85 kilometres north of the regional centre of Deva, within the province of Alba, at elevations of up to 1100 metres above sea level. The Rosia Montana deposit contains a current resource of 344.07 million tonnes at an average grade of 1.3 grams per tonne (g/t) gold (Au) and 6.0 g/t silver (Ag) for a total (measured, indicated and inferred) contained resource of 14.29 million ounces of gold and 67.00 million ounces of silver. The resource was calculated using a 0.6g/t Au cut-off, a 10 x 10 x 10 metre block size and multiple indicator kriging. The low sulfidation style epithermal mineralisation at Rosia Montana is hosted within Tertiary age dacite intrusions and related vent breccias. Mineralisation is generally disseminated and associated with silica, adularia, illite, pyrite and carbonate alteration of host rocks, with minor late carbonate-base metal veins. Precipitation of precious metals is generally considered to have occurred as a result of over-pressurization, boiling and subsequent brecciation. The dacite intrusions are hosted in Cretaceous shallow marine and deltaic shales and slates, which overlie older Paleozoic sedimentary and metamorphic rocks within uplifted sections of oceanic sea floor.

Since 1988, there have been thirteen documented incidents in the United States and Canada in which carbon monoxide (CO) is suspected to have migrated through near surface strata into structures or other enclosed spaces as a result of nearby trench blasting or surface mine blasting. From these incidents, there are thirty suspected or medically verified CO poisonings and one fatality associated with these incidents. To better understand the variables contributing to this hazard, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) carried out a small- scale field study to identify key factors that may contribute to the migration of CO through the ground. NIOSH conducted single- hole heavily confined experimental test shots to measure the radial pressure pulse as it propagated through surrounding monitoring holes to determine if a relationship existed between the pressure pulse and resulting CO measurements afterwards. NIOSH also monitored blasts at an airport construction site. Following the detonations, the concentrations of CO, nitric oxide (NO), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) were monitored for several days in the surrounding satellite holes. The peak CO measurements relative to distances from the shots were compared. Pressure histories and peak particle velocities (PPV) were measured at monitoring boreholes. It was found that the differential pressures recorded within the boreholes give some indication as to the likelihood of CO appearing, whereas the PPV measurements do not seem to be as good an indicator for potential CO migration. In this limited study, changes in barometric pressure had very little influence on removing the trapped detonation products, whereas applying a vacuum to the monitoring holes was effective in reducing the entrapped CO concentration.

De acuerdo al contenido de fluoruro de calcio, varían sus calidades y usos tales como: fundente de metales para aumentar la fluidez del acero fundido; industria de vidrio por sus propiedades opalecentes y colorantes; la industria de esmaltado en el acabado de estufas, refrigeradores, mosaicos; la industria de la cerámica para darle un aspecto vidrioso a las vajillas; y el grado óptico para la fabricación de lentes por el bajo índice de refracción y débil poder disperso de los colores.

The Pegmont deposit is a stratiform Pb-Zn sulphide body occurring in a thin, iron-rich metasedimentary unit situated near the top of the Kuridala Formation, a part of the Mary Kathleen Group of the Middle Proterozoic&quot;Eastern Geosyncline&quot; succession of the Mount Isa-Cloncurry district. The deposit appears to have developed in a shallow basin or depression on a sea or lake floor.Detailed chemical and mineralogical study of seven diamond drill cores through the ore horizon shows that in addition to galena and sphalerite the orebody contains a large range of iron-rich silicates and aluminosilicates.Further, five drill cores selected to represent a section from basin centre to basin edge exhibit clear and systematic chemical and mineralogical changes in the ore horizon in both a vertical and, most importantly, ill a lateral sense.Reconstruction of the sedimentary environment of the ore horizon as a whole shows this to be a silicate facies of a phosphatic, manganiferous iron formation or, more accurately, of &quot;ironstone&quot; in the sense of James (1966, U.S. Geol. Surv. Prof. Paper 440, chapter W).On the basis of both mineralogy and chemistry this silicate facies may be subdivided into three microfacies according to the dominant iron silicates characteristic of each: a fayalite microfacies, a hornblende-clinopyroxenemicrofacies, and a garnet microfacies. Significant Pb-Zn sulphide concentrations are confined almost entirely to the fayalite microfacies.

Las simulaciones condicionales geoestadísticas se utilizaron como herramientas de control de leyes en operaciones diarias que evalúan la incertidumbre y el riesgo de las reservas mineras en estudios de factibilidad, así como el potencial de mineralización en ciertos ambientes geológicos. Otras aplicaciones incluyen evaluación de recursos y reservas recuperables (dilución), clasificación de recursos y reservas, y optimización de espaciamiento de sondajes. En ese sentido, el presente trabajo señala los aspectos de los esquemas de clasificación de recursos y reservas utilizados en la industria, el cual está basado en el modelo de incertidumbre que las simulaciones condicionales proveen. Asimismo, se analiza el riesgo que este modelo de incertidumbre implica para sub-regiones (unidades) de extracción del yacimiento, como las definidas por fases de extracción mineras o períodos de tiempo.

"3.1. IntroductionAmong the six platinum-group elements (POE), four have identical cubic symmetry, two identical hexagonal symmetry (Table 3.1). Despite crystallographic differences, there is a clear relationship expressed in the chemistries of the POE: they tend to be mutually soluble in one another and can frequently substitute for one another in compounds with other elements. This chapter consolidates the data on phase relations of the POE and the compounds they form with elements selected for their known or potentially important mineralogical significance- As, Bi, Cu, Fe, Hg, In, Ni, Pb, S, Sb, Se, Sn and Te-together with selected data for the occurrence of POE in certain elements such as Au and Ag, and compounds such as FeS. Resources used to compile the data are those available from the chemical, mineralogical and metallurgical literature. First each element is discussed, with composition limits of solid solutions drawn from binary phase diagrams. Single element data are followed by a discussion of the relevant binary systems and a tabulation of data for binary compounds found in those systems (Table 3.2). Tables and diagrams for the ternary and quaternary systems for which information is available follow, and finally the very limited information on the solubility of POE in mineralogically important elements and compounds is presented.The chemical, mineralogical and metallurgical literature on the unary and binary systems is extensive and widely scattered in many languages and publications; fortunately, most of the data needed to compile this chapter can be found in reliable compendia. The most useful and most recent of these works is by Moffatt (1979), because it provides a ready index to all material relating to binary systems listed in previous compendia; furthermore, the Moffatt compendium will reportably be kept up to date by annual supplements."
