Shizhuyuan is a world-class WO3, Mo, Bi and CaF2 poly-metallic deposit; it has rich reservation, but great difficulty in ore?s processing; thereby, for many years, it has been the target problem of beneficiation technologies. This paper, while briefly reviews its main scientific and technological advancement, pays special attention to the complete set of new technology and technical index achieved in recent years, which is characterized by using full-floatation flow-sheet as the backbone flow-sheet, explores some key factors influencing tungsten floatation, and presents a brief introduction to such new equipment as flotation column and comprehensive utilization of fluorite.

"Although a large number of processes have been developed and applied to the separation of barite from other minerals, there is a lack of information in the literature about the separation of barite from iron ores. Nowadays, there are millions of tonnes of iron ore disposed as a waste or tailings given its high content of sulphur in the form of barite. In order to effectively separate barite from iron ore and ensure that mining business is truly creating economic and sustainable values, this paper provides a greater understanding of barite properties, the origin and occurrence of this barium-bearing mineral, and the employed beneficiation processes. A test work is conducted in a barite bearing iron ore from a deposit located in the Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in order to separate the barite and check if a marketable by-product can be produced by drawing upon rich barite tailings. INTRODUCTION The exploration of iron ore containing barite results in a large amount of unrecovered material. The main difficulty in processing and using barite bearing iron ores is given by their high content of sulphur, silica and barium, which are unwanted chemical compounds in the subsequent processes in iron industry. As a result, millions of tonnes of iron ore are discarded every year into tailings or as a waste, which results in production losses, higher operation costs and environmental impacts (Praes et al. 2013). Therefore, the separation of barite from iron ores not only means reducing the environmental impact, but also an opportunity to generate income and beneficiate society. The beneficiation of barite bearing iron ores is a subject which requires a deeper investigation to solve the challenges faced by the iron industry. There are only a few studies that describe flowsheets proposed for the production of barite concentrate of iron ores. The most likely reason for this gap is that barite is frequently exploited commercially as a primary product rather than a by-product. In order to effectively separate barite from iron ore and ensure that mining business is truly creating economic and sustainable values, this paper provides a greater understanding of barite properties, the origin and occurrence of this barium-bearing mineral, and the employed beneficiation processes. A test work is conducted in a barite bearing iron ore from a deposit located in the Republika Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in order to separate the barite and verify if a marketable by-product can be produced by drawing upon rich barite tailings."

"The aim of the research is to develop a holistic process flow for the recycling of glass fibres from glass reinforced plastics (GRP) and carbon fibres from carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP), wherein the dissolution of the fibre epoxy resin matrix, separation of fibre fractions and their renewed material use is intended. In clear distinction to the previous research and development projects, the aim here is to recycle complex composite structures such as dismantled/disused wind turbine rotor blades and end-of-life composite wastes. In the course of the study, mechanical, hydrothermal and thermal processes and their combined procedures will be developed. As the fibre length is a decisive quality criterion in the recycling of composite materials, the further focus of the study will be the development of upstream and downstream material processing, in which the fibres are retained in their original form. The evaluation of the recycled fibres obtained is based on the elemental composition, measurement and morphological evaluation of individual filaments by scanning electron microscope (SEM), micro tensile tests on single fibres and their comparison to virgin fibres. The resulting process water is analysed by gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) and a potential recirculation is determined. In cooperation with companies from the composite processing industry as well as recycling companies, a return of the recycled fibres to the known manufacturing process will be examined and an energetic and economic evaluation of the overall process will be carried out. Ambitious aim of the study is to achieve an actual recycling instead of the present downcycling or the energetic utilization. INTRODUCTION As global warming increases, so does the awareness of consumption and production of energy. To counteract the effects of global warming, renewable energy has been increasingly used during the last two decades, not only in Germany, but worldwide. Both, hydropower and wind energy, hereby play a fundamental role. After the end of their useful life of 20 to 30 years, the wind turbines (WTs) are being dismantled. Due to their foundations and tower segments, their recycling rate hereby exceeds 90% by mass. So far, the resulting rotor blade waste played a minor role accounting for only 2 - 3 weight-% of the total plant. Rotor blades of modern wind turbines are made of glass and carbon fibers, which are embedded in an epoxy or polyester resin matrix, balsa wood, PU or PET foams as fillers as well as various paints and coatings. These wastes currently end up in waste incineration or are sold to non-European countries."

The physico-chemical characteristics of raw materials used for the production of iron ore pellets have a strong influence on the productivity of pelletization operations and on the quality of pellets. Since iron ores from different sources are used for making iron ore pellets and since the quality of the ores varies with time, there is a need to optimize and control pellet plant operations on a regular basis to achieve optimum productivity while maintaining pellet quality within the desirable specifications. In order to achieve this objective, a model-based on-line optimization system was implemented on two industrial scale induration furnaces. The optimization system consists of a rigorous mathematical model of the induration process, a model for the permeability of the bed of pellets, a statistical model for the quality of iron ore pellets and an optimization module based on sequential quadratic programming. The rigorous model is tested on-line using the wind-box temperature available real-time. The process was optimized to enhance induration furnace productivity for the given constraints on pellet quality parameters such as the cold compressive strength (CCS) and Tumble Index (TI), and other equipment design parameters. Process variables such as induration machine speed, cold air flow rate and hood temperature profile were used as the optimization variables. The on-line optimization system was successfully implemented in two industrial induration furnaces and lead to enhanced productivity. Details of the on-line optimization system and results of process optimization will be presented.

This study covers the tests to develop separation process for production of clay and colemanite rich concentrates, and aims to serve the clay and colemanite concentrates extracted from the tailing dams to the industrial applications. For this purpose, samples from the tailing dams in Kestelek Boron Plant (Turkey) with an average B2O3 content of 8%~11 % were subjected to the investigations. The separation process of hydrocyclone--to make clear the way to obtain either clean clay or cole-manite--was initially discussed. Therefore, following the gentle scrubbing (to keep the bimodal size distribution between clay and colemanite) of the tailings to disperse the slurry, two alternative multistage hydrocyclone processes; allowing to recycling the overflows or underflows to concentrate clay and colemanite were respectively tested. As a result of the preliminary tests, the multistage hydrocyclone separation in direction to the clean colemanite concentrates (recycling the underflows) gave the better separation efficiencies. So, all the parameters such as apex and vortex finder diameters and feeding pressures were examined with the multistage hydrocyclone process allowing the recycling the underflows. The detailed multistage hydrocyclone separation process of the tailing dam wastes yielded with colemanite concentrates (approx. 12 % of the feed, w/w) with B2O3 content of 35.0 % and the clay concentrates (approx. 42 % of the feed, w/w) with B2O3 content of 2.1 %. Colemanite concentrates were found good enough either to re-feed in to the separation process or to keep upgrading for final product ready to use in Industry whereas the attempts on production of light bricks from clay concentrates has failed. But it is worth to point out that these clay concentrates can be used for agricultural purposes just in the form as it is.

Most of the coal reserves in India are of drift origin and have very poor washability characteristics and a high level of near gravity materials. At least 30 new coal wash plants are expected to be set up in the next 5years.In such a scenario, adequate sampling followed by sink float test work for washability analysis becomes very critical for designing these new plants. For coal sampling purpose, stipulations of different standards are sometimes formidable and on the border of ?impracticality?; sometimes are self contradictory in terms of gross sample weight vis-a-vis minimum number of particles required in each size fraction and in each relative density fraction and also the minimum mass in the latter. Validation of the generated data is another important aspect of washability analysis. These issues can easily be addressed by using straight forward mathematical relationships, well known RR plots and by using simple MS Excel tool, etc.

The interaction and galena flotation with xanthenes and dexanthogen regularities have been de-fined. So, using thermodynamic method of analysis, the thermodynamic stability of [galena - xanthenes - water] system and the behavior of lead xanthenes surface state in solution were devised. Thus, results of cared out calculations and experimental investigation completely coincide with-out depending on witch product of sulfur oxidation is formed in the solution. In additional, was obtained quantitative physico-chemical models for the necessary xanthenes concentration of lead sul-fide complete flotation in the tuning fork of: at ?? values from 7.0 up to 9.0 (or at the formation of lead carbonate PbCO3 ) and at ?? values from 9.0 up to 12 (or at the formation of lead hydro carbonate Pb3(OH)2(CO3)2 Physico-chemical models derived can be used as the criteria for functional units of automation systems to control and regulate the flotation process in mineral processing plants.

The sedimentary phosphate deposit of Bayovar is located in a very dry area of Peru (desert of Sechura) which is close to the Pacific coast. It consists of seven superposed layers (beds) which call for different strategy of concentration. The ore is composed predominantly by apatite (84% in weight basis) plus silicates (16%). In order to treat the ore from beds 1-5, a suitable standard mineral processing circuit (composed of scrubbing, screening, attrition and desliming) started its operation in 2010, yielding 3.9 Mt/y of concentrate assaying 30% of P2O5. To concentrate phosphate from beds 6-7, however, it is necessary to carry out further cationic reverse flotation of silicates, at neutral pH, to yield a concentrate, which meets market specification. The new process was developed in laboratory scale by a collaborative program conducted between Vale S.A. and the University of Sao Paulo-Brazil. A pilot plant has currently been running in order to confirm the very good results yielded in laboratory scale. The successful accomplishment of flotation in the current beneficiation flow sheet will enable a capacity expansion of 1.9 Mt/y of concentrate assaying 30% of P2O5. As water resources are very limited at Bayovar region, all the steps of concentration, including flotation, must be performed with seawater, which must be continuously recycled. This work addresses some relevant topics related to the use of seawater in the reverse cationic flotation of silicates: influence of temperature, water quality (ageing and chemical composition) and collector type (ether amine versus condensate). The results indicate that condensate amine works better than ether amine. If flotation is conducted with the former collector, the separation process is able to tolerate changes in temperature (25-40oC) and water quality caused by either evaporation or ageing. Ca-containing gangue minerals such as Fluorite, Calcite have same surface activity point--calcium ions and approximate floatability with scheelite, it is difficult to achieve good dressing index of rough concentrate of scheelite. Mono-mineral experiments and ore tests indicate that, according to mineral composition, gangue minerals can be inhibited selectively by adopting suitable regulators, then the separation of scheelite from gangue minerals can be realized effectively. Mechanism analysis was taken by zeta potentials measurements and FTIR tests. Good dressing indexes are also obtained in practical ore tests and industrial tests. Mechanically-induced chemical reactions between natural beach ilmenite (FeTiO3) and silicon (Si) have been examined by a combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) analyses. The effect of various milling time on the phase transformation, crystallite size, and lattice strain of a beach sand ilmenite with silicon, and on their leaching behavior in hydrochloric acid (HCl) has been investigated. For mechanically activated FeTiO3, the crystallite size decreased and lattice strain increased monotonically with time of milling. However, the mechanochemically synthesized ilmenite with silicon showed a relatively smaller crystallite size and greater lattice strain compared with the mechanically activated ilmenite under the same milling condition. In accordance with the elapse of milling time, the intensity of both pure FeTiO3 and mechanically activated FeTiO3 gradually decreased. However, in case of the mechanochemically synthesized ilmenitereduction of FeTiO3 by silicon resulted in formation of rutile TiO2 at the milling time of 20 h and afterwards. Additional leaching experiments were carried out at an HCl/ilmenite (wt%) ratio of 20:1. The concentration of HCl was 3 M and the reaction temperature ranged from 70 to 90 oC. Mechanical activation was observed to significantly enhance the dissolution rates of both iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti) in HCl. Particularly, effects of both milling time and silicon addition on the dissolution rates of titanium and iron were significant, while those of temperature were relatively minor under the conditions investigated in this study. "Over the last 30 years the average grade of mined ore bodies has significantly decreased while the proportion of waste removal has in many cases more than doubled. This has been identified as prime reason of a major increase in energy consumption and decrease in productivity across mining operation. Metal coarse preconcentration of ROM feed grades by size rejects low grade gangue/waste material in the size range of 10-100 mm prior to grinding, typically before primary crushing. This relies on propensity of metal to preferentially deport in the fine size fractions after breakage. Metal preconcentration by size has the potential to increase energy efficiency and therefore improve mining productivity on unit of metal basis. Results of an extensive belt cut sampling campaign conducted at a major Australian Au-Cu mine operation show that for some samples between 90% of Au and 80% of Cu is in 40% of the mass at -50 mm fraction. This indicates that low grade coarse material can be removed from the circuit, doubling feed grade at half of the tonnage and therefore improve energy efficiency per unit metal produced. This response, however presents significant variability in the same order as other processing attributes such as impact hardness and flotation recovery. This has led to development of geometallurgical laboratory tests using blast hole chips and drill core facilitating mapping and population of coarse metal preconcentration signatures in long term resources and short term production models. Preferential Cu deportment by size at drilling scale can be recognised, however scales up factors are required to transform laboratory results to production responses. At 50 % of mass the drilling products underestimate the belt cut responses by 20-30 %. Bulk sampling campaign with blast hole and drill core samples spatially related was also conducted to investigate in more detail the difference between production scale and drilling scale preconcentration responses."

Due to not to being our own sources, some energy sources such as oil and natural gas which are used frequently, are not reliable energy sources for our country. Coal is an important energy source that Turkey also has a certain reserve as many countries have. To be able to use for many years the reserves of this source that comes from fossils, there is a great need to make more investigation and development activities on it. On behalf of using more productively the current sources, briquetting facility is represented that commenced production in The Aegean Lignite Establishment in 2005 which is in Manisa, Soma. This facility is a part of General Directorate of Turkish Coal. This facility is run by Soma Coal Establishment that works in return for royalty in a licensed field that belongs to TKI. As the demand of market for 0.5 mm dust coal diminishes, we had to accumulate and stock unmerchantable dust coal. Besides, we have intermixed 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal obtained as a result of washing in coal washer with thermic coal with low price as we could not find a client in the market. In this study, the production stages of briquette coal with high quality produced as a result of pressing by mixing 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal with molasse and lime, quality control, and data?s obtained about calories and solidity of products were presented. By briquetting of 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal washed in coal washer, it became possible to sell these coals on a high unit price and by providing the demand of coal of the market, we contributed to productivity of our firm. Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of heavy metals ions from aqueous solutions. In this study, the adsorption properties of Rhodococcus opacus biomass for Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions was investigated. The effects of initial pH, initial metal concentration and biomass concentration on biosorption efficiency were studied in a batch system. Results showed that the initial pH would play an important role in the Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions removal by R. opacus and affected the zeta potential of R. opacus. The equilibrium adsorption was reached with 60 min. The Langmuir and Freundlich models were used for describing of adsorption isotherm data. The maxi-mum adsorption capacities of biomass were determined as 94.3mgg-1 and 32.2 mgg-1 for the Pb(II) and Cu(II) ions, respectively. The experimental data fitted to pseudo second order kinetic model. Adsorption capacity of Pb(II) ions was found to be reduced by the presence of the other competing metal ions in the system. The FT-IR results of R. opacus biomass showed that biomass has different functional groups and these groups are able to react with metal ions in aqueous solution.

According to XRD, DTA and SEM detections, the hydration products of blast furnace slag (BFS) based cementing material SL, SLG. were studied in different age periods. The XRD analysis of cementing material SL hydration products showed that the composition of hydration products were mainly amorphous substances, few crystalline substances. Characteristic peak of ettringite hadn?t been found in the spectral line of DTA, and it hadn?t been found in the figures of SEM, either, which was accordant with the conclusion that the cementing performance of SL mainly coming from gel of hydrated calcium silicate (CSH) and hydrated calcium aluminate. However, the main hydration products of SLG are Aft, CSH, and AFm, which are similar to Portland cement. All results suggest that BFS is a suitable base material for cementation. Kimberlite weathering has been a topic of ongoing research within De Beers for many years. Using kimberlite weathering as an alternative to crushing has many advantages e.g. power and reducing diamond breakage. Weathering could also possibly be used in conjunction with crushing just to weaken the material and reduce power consumption. These forces have driven current research to investigate whether kimberlite weathering could be utilised for these reasons. Weathering in this context does not refer to weathering over long period of time but rather to disintegration of the material in aqeous media in relative short time periods. Previous published work discussed that the presence of smectite renders kimberlite weatherable and that the amount of smectite determines the rate of weathering (Morkel and Vermaak, 2006). The current work investigates whether cation ex-change or the adsorption of organic species in the smectite interlayer could influence the observed weathering behaviour. The results show that cation exchange does take place in the presence of cation species and that the weathering behaviour can be drastically improved with especially Cu2+ cations. Concentration and time effects of the weathering was also investigated. Weathering tests with organic species such as ethanol, methanol, edta, pentanol, butanol, acetic acid and oxalic acid was performed. The results show that organic species does improve weathering but under these testing conditions was not as effective as cations.

Vast amount of fly ash, bottom ash and slags, are produced each year due to coal combustion in thermal power plants. These products consist of mainly unburned carbon and inorganic compound (such as: silica, alumina, iron oxides, magnesium oxide, phosphorus oxide etc.). These are valuable minerals and can be recycled or recovered if properly processed. One third of the material find application as an ingredient in cement and other construction products, the rest is held in dams or similar dumps, which results in a hazardous impact on the environment, polluting soil and ground water. The unproductive use of land, the associated long term financial burden maintenance and negative environmental impacts have led to realization that alternative uses for combustion by-products as a value added product beyond incorporation in construction materials are needed. At present, there is an intensive search to increase their uses. Other uses of coal combustion residues include as raw material in brick and ceramic tile fabrication, as filler in plastics and paints, extraction of valuable mineral materials, production of zeolites and soil and mine waste treatments. Separation of unburned carbon from bottom ashes by means of flotation was conducted in order to increase the possibility of the recycling of coal combustion wastes. In the flotation experiments collector, dispersant and frother amount, pulp density and pH were tested as variables. After first stage flotation experiments, at optimum conditions, the carbon content was reduced down to 5.58 % in the tailings fraction. This fraction meets the industrial specifications and can be utilized as a cement additive. At the same conditions the carbon content of the concentrate increased to 44.72 % at a carbon recovery of 65.81 %. After the cleaner stage flotation experiment the carbon content of the product is enhanced to 62.53 %. This fraction can be blended back into the coal feed to the power plant boilers.

Taknar polymetal (Cu-Zn-Au-Ag-Pb) deposit and concentration flotation plant are located in the northeast of Iran. The flotation feed contains Chalcopyrite, sphalerite and pyrite with 4, 4 and 8 percent respectively. Cu and Zn contents are 1.26 and 3.5 present. Pyrite decreases the quality of base metal concentrates and increases the amount of sulfur compounds produced in the base metal extraction processes. Therefore, depression of pyrite is essential in the concentration of base metal sulfides by flotation. For flotation tests, 4 mixed collector systems, MIBC (20g/t), lime and tow depression systems (sodium cyanide (60g/t)-zinc sulphate and dextrin (300g/t)-zinc sulphate) were used as collector, frother, pH regulator and pyrite-sphalerite depressants in the chalcopyrite flotation stage, respectively, and SIPX, MIBC, lime and copper sulphate (as activator) were used in sphalerite flotation from first stage tailings. The results have shown that, sodium cyanide is a suitable depressant for pyrite and sphalerite in the first stage of flotation. Compared to dextrin as depressant, chalcopyrite recovery was decreased approximately 1.83%. In addition, when sodium cyanide was used as pyrite depressant, copper sulphate consumption raised approximately 90 g/t for activation of sphalerite. From Environment and HSE points of view, dextrin is natural, biodegradable, and non-toxic while cyanide is very high toxic. Fly-ash was used as adsorbent to remove butyl xanthate from aqueous solution in this study. Adsorption kinetics investigation reveals that the adsorption process abides by the Lagergren-second-order Kinetic Model, and fine fly-ash prepared by grinding has a higher second-order adsorption rate as 1.25 g/mg?min and a higher saturated adsorption amount as 10.92mg/g. Four influencing factors as adsorption temperature, solution pH, consumption of fly-ash and adsorption time were investigated. Testing results indicate that butyl xanthate removal rates declines slightly with the temperature increase within the range of 15-50?, increases slightly when pH rises from 7.27 to 8.01 and then declines from 99.65% to 98.25% when pH rises from 8.01 to 11.10. An enhancement of removal rates can be observed by increasing the consumption of the adsorbing agent or prolonging the adsorption time. Thermal desorption was adopted to regenerate the used fly-ash, and test results show that fly-ash possess good regeneration performance and could be used as adsorbent repeatedly with little influence on the adsorption capacity.

"Sand and gravel are the second and third largest minerals in production in Brazil, and this is increasing noticeably. The extraction of natural sand from river beds is increasingly restricted and most of the sand used in large cities comes in from more than 150 km away, resulting in high transportation costs. As a result, it has become more common to use crushed rock as artificial sand. The main difficulties in this process are controlling the shape of the particles and the content of deleterious materials, such as mica. Within this situation, this paper presents an alternative to using artificial sand for concrete use. Our procedure involves the following steps: a) sampling sand from different production days, b) characterizing the bulk sample by particle size and shape distribution, chemical composition by X ray fluorescence and mineralogical composition by X ray diffraction, c) removing fine grains by air classifier, d) performing intensive attrition with high pressure washing and e) characterizing products. The results demonstrated that this sample contains a huge proportion of fine grains and a notable content of mica, which is distributed along all sieve fractions. The presence of mica makes the use of sand in concrete unfeasible, moreover scanning electron microscopy analysis demonstrated that this phylossilicate is finely grained and associated with coarse fractions. Thus, the removal of fine fractions made possible a partial reduction in mica content. Furthermore, intensive attrition demonstrated that the procedure was efficient to remove most of the mica while also reducing sharp edges, which improved the shape of these particles."

The results of development of new collecting reagents selectively interacting with the metals of platinum group (MPG) are presented. A new approach to the concentration of the platinum minerals from the fine grade platinum containing products with the use of cloud point polymers for the first time proposed for this purpose is discussed. An original method for the investigation of complexing reagents with the platinum under flotation conditions developed by authors is described. The influence of the complexing reagents on the xanthate adsorption and on the electrochemical properties of the platinum arsenide surface (sperrylite) as well with the interaction mechanism between the reagent and metallic platinum were investigated by means of the modern physical and physicochemical methods of the solid and fluid phase studies. The results of tests of some complexing reagents with the rich copper-nickel ore in the cycle of nickel-pyrrhotite flotation are given. The data obtained makes it possible to mark the complexing reagent containing phosphine group as the most effective additional collector for MPG. Cloud point polymers containing thioamide, aminosulphide, and phosphine functional groups were examined. It is shown that all the reagents tested increase the platinum and palladium extraction to the nickel-pyrrhotite concentrate without quality loss. Platinum containing particles flocculate selectively.
