Processing of lead-zinc and copper ores by Mount Isa Mines Limited produces large quantit- ies of concentrator tailings waste which is pumped as a slurry to special dams where the solids are allowed to settle and dry out. These areas are unattractive and show no signs of encroachment by plant life even though the surfaces of some dams have remained undisturbed for more than a decade. During 1970 Mount Isa Mines Limited commenced a long term research program in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, University of Queensland to deter- mine possible methods of establishing a plant cover on this material. Research has defined the major factors limiting plant growth in the tailings medium. Modification of the edaphic conditions through fertilizer inputs, particularly of phosphorus and nitrogen, and alteration of "soil" physical properties by incorporation of mulching mater- ials, provided conditions which allowed plant growth. The outstanding "soil" amendment treatment was incorporation of fly ash, a waste product of the company's coal fired power stations. A range of crop and pasture species have been selected which have grown well with adequate irrigation under the amended conditions in the field. Further research is assessing a range of native plant species and agronomic techniques to provide a stable plant cover on the tailings dams.

Legislation introduced for Queensland and New South Wales Coal mines provides different levels of prescription regarding specification of mine seals û generally in relation to capacity to withstand overpressure. In Queensland, the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation (2001), Section 341 (d) places a further onus on the statutory ventilation officer to æensure all ventilation control devices at the mine are properly constructed and maintainedÆ and that the ventilation officer æmust ensure a ventilation control device mentioned in the regulation à and installed at the mine meets the design criteria statedÆ for the ætype of deviceÆ. Based on the experience of the author, it appears that risk management and life cycle approach to seals has not been adopted to the same extent as for other aspects of operations. Further, because of the number of disciplines and personnel involved that may influence various factors affecting seal integrity, the opportunity for oversight or unclear allocation of responsibility is considerable. While suppliers can provide explosion or design rated seals, this should only be a starting point for application of the product in a coal mine. Application is often considered by mine planning staff (taking into consideration mine environment parameters such as water, control of gas, spontaneous combustion risk, etc) in conjunction with the colliery ventilation officer, and then construction completed by contractors under supervision of operational staff. After construction, seals often are managed by operational personnel with input from the ventilation officer. Input of the geotechnical engineer into pillar design, roadway opening size, ground support specification and most stable seal location is also required. The need for a customised design approach for each seal site is proposed in order to take into account the many and variable factors that may influence a site so that improved seal performance reliability and predictability can be developed. A program of quantitative as well as qualitative monitoring of performance and triggers for rectification or maintenance action is required, and would provide support to the aforementioned proposal. Many mines rely on visual/audible inspection and periodic bag sampling as the primary means of assessment. Other significant factors such as seal material properties, rib degradation, convergence, floor heave, effects of water on both structural integrity of the seal as well as the air tightness of the seal do not generally receive the same level of attention. Based on the above observations, the author has compiled a reference checklist in regard to the above matters, including aspects of and approaches to mine and pillar design, geotechnical modelling and data collection, civil engineering design, site evaluation and practical options available.

Theoretical substantiation of leaching of clustered ultra-fine gold by the electro-photo activated cyanide and chloride solutions is given in the paper; and processes of activation of leach solution by electrolysis and photo-activation are described. Comparative experiments on electro-photo activated leaching of ultra-fine gold from refractory ores by cyanide and chloride solutions were carried out. The material for research is primary ore of the Pogromnoe deposit (Russian Federation, Trans-Baikal Territory). The ore is characterised by the minimum sulfide minerals and the organic carbon content. Gold in ores of this deposit is presented as mainly ultra-fine. Gold inclusions in quartz and silica-alumina minerals (metasomatic minerals) are ultra-fine. Sulfide minerals (2.5-3%) are presented in ore generally by pyrrhotine (gold content does not exceed 10 g/t). Standard cyanide technology provides 49.5% gold recovery. Photo-electro activated air saturated NaCN provides 69.9% gold recovery. Laboratory research of chloride-hypochlorite column leaching demonstrated that the electro-photo activated method provided 78.9 % gold recovery to pregnant leach solution. Chloride-hypochlorite photo-electro activated solution can provide higher level of gold recovery with shorter process duration (10 days) in comparison with cyanide (40 days). The final decision regarding the choice of leach solution has to be done on the basis of technical and economic calculations. "INTRODUCTION Mining activities must be safe and profitable. These two requirements influence each other. The purchase and implementation of safety improvements costs money. Injuries and illnesses at mines stop or delay production and may result in additional costs or a loss of profit. Other effects of injuries and illnesses include the negative influence on employee morale, corporate reputation and conflicts with contract partners. Based on this researchers asked the question: are mines with lower rates of injuries and illnesses more profitable than mines with a higher frequencies? One aspect of this research is the evaluation of the safety situation and the measurement of benefits of safety improvements in the German mining industry. In the following paper, this part of the research will be examined. The main aim is the evaluation of injury rates in different German mining sectors and regions in Germany. SELECTION OF GERMAN MINING OPERATIONS The research team decided to focus the study on the salt and potash and the aggregate and industrial minerals mining industries in Germany. These two mining industries are different in the number and size of operators, structure of the industry, pricing and markets. The selection of two different industries adds to the clarity of the evaluation. Salt and potash mining industry The German salt and potash industry is primarily located central Germany. All salt and potash mines in Germany are underground operations. In 2015, the German potash industry employed 8,100 employees and generated a total revenue of 2 billion Euros. German potash reserves include magnesium compounds like kieserite (MgSO4·H2O), in addition to sylvite (KCl) and carnallite (KMgCl3·6(H2O)). The German salt industry employed 2,300 people in 2015 and generated revenue of 800 million Euros (Krueger, 2015) There are seven mining companies with salt and potash operations: esco-european salt company GmbH & Co. KG, K + S Kali GmbH, Saline Luisenhall GmbH, GSES Glückauf Sondershausen Entwicklungs- und Sicherungs-gesellschaft GmbH, Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG, Wacker Chemie AG and Südsalz GmbH. In this way, esco – european salt company GmbH & Co. KG is an affiliated company. Esco was founded as a joint venture of K + S and Solvay in 2002, since 2004 K + S is the sole holder (esco - european salt company GmbH & Co. KG, 2016). Likewise, the Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG has a controlling interest in Südsalz GmbH (Südsalz GmbH, 2016). Aggregate and industrial minerals mining industry The aggregate mining industry in Germany is comprised of many small mining operations and relevant companies. According to the German Department of Economics (BMWi, 2015), the following industrial materials are classified as aggregates: fluorite, barite, kaolin, quartz and quartz sand, quartzite, silica, loamy and foundry sand, pegmatite sand, shale, clay, bentonite, schistose, limestone and dolomite, gypsum and anhydrite, basaltic lava and lava sand, gravel and split, pebble and silicic sand and peat."

"Abutment pressure distribution is different when a longwall panel is passing through the abandoned gateroads in a damaged coal seam. According to the geological conditon of panel E13103 in Cuijiazhai Coal Mine in China theoretical analysis and finite element numerical simulation were used to determine the front pressure distribution characteristics when the longwall face is 70 m, 50 m, 30 m, 20 m, 10 m, and 5 m from the abandoned gateroads. The research results show that the influence range of abutment pressure is 40 m to 45 m outby the face, and the peak value of front abutment pressure is related to the distance between the face and abandoned gateroads. When the distance between the longwall face and abandoned gateroads is reduced from 50 m to 10 m, the front abutment pressure peak value kept increasing.When the distance is 10 m, it has reached the maximum. The peak value is located in 5 to 6 m outby the faceline. When the distance between the longwall face and abandoned gateroads is reduced from10 m to 5 m, the front abutment pressure sharply decreases, the intact coal yields and is even in plastic state. The peak value transfers to the other side of the abandoned gateroads. The research results provide a theoretical basis for determining the advance support distance of two gateroads in the panel and the reinforcement for face stability when the longwall face is passing through the abandoned gateroads.INTRODUCTIONFront abutment pressure is the result of rearrangement of in situ rock stress caused by the mining (removal) of the coal seam. Research on the distribution character of face abutment pressure have significant importance in confirming the width of the coal pillar and the distance of advance support in roadways (Liu et al., 2011; Liu, Jiang, and Zhu, 2015). Currently, there is a lot of research on abutment pressure characteristics of traditional longwall coal faces, thick coal seam longwall faces, isolated faces, and extra wide face abutment pressure distribution (Xie et al., 2006). However, theoretical analysis and research on the distribution law of the fully mechanized coal face to abandoned gateroads are relatively less. Abandoned roadways are often from less mechanized or room and pillar mines. Due to the existence of these roadways pre-longwall mining, the in situ stress has already been redistributed around the roadway (Liu et al., 2007). Thus, when the longwall approaches and mines through the roadway, the abutment pressure distribution behaviour has different characteristics than those of traditional solid undisturbed coal. Especially when the face approaches the abandoned roadway, the understanding of face abutment pressure distribution has significant importance to the timing of support installation (Ren and Ning, 2014). This prevents the occurrence of a roof and rib failure ahead of and on the longwall and highly efficient advance of the longwall safely and productivity. This paper analyses the E13103 face of the Cuijiazhai Mine of Wenzhou Mining Co., Ltd of Kailuan Group, as the engineering case study, and uses FLAC3D numerical simulation software to conduct numerical simulated analysis on the abutment pressure distribution mechanism of longwall coal mining face."

"Coal and gas outburst is an extremely complex dynamic disaster in coal mine production process which will damage casualties, equipment facilities and disorder the ventilation system by suddenly ejecting a great amount of coal and gas into roadway or working face. This paper analyzed the interaction among the three essential elements of coal and gas outburst dynamic system. A stress-seepage-damage coupling model was established which can be used to simulate the evolution of the dynamical system, and then the size scale of coal and gas outburst dynamical system was investigated. Results show that the dynamical system is consisted of three essential elements, coal-gas medium (material basis), geology dynamic environment (internal motivation) and mining disturbance (external motivation). On the case of C13 coal seam in Panyi mine, the dynamical system exists in the range of 8-12 m in front of advancing face. The size scale will be larger where there are large geologic structures. This research plays an important guiding role for developing measures of coal and gas outburst prediction and prevention. INTRODUCTIONCoal and gas outbursts are a complicated mine gas dynamic phenomenon that pose a serious threat to coal mine safety production. Since the first recorded coal and gas outburst occurring in Isaac coal mine of the Lule coal field in 1843, more than 40,000 outbursts have occurred in the world. China ranks first in outburst frequency and intensity. In recent 20 years, China on average increases 37 pairs of coal mines and more than 280 times outburst accidents every year (Yan, 2013). The coal and gas outburst occurred on Oct 20, 2004 in Daping Coal Mine, Zhengzhou Coal Group, caused serious gas explosions and ejected 1,894 tons of coal into the face, causing 148 fatalities. In recent years, despite implementation of numerous control measures, coal and gas outburst still occur frequently ash mining depth and mining intensity increase. The outburst mechanisms can be summarized in the following four aspects: the gas leading role hypothesis, the geostress leading role hypothesis, the chemical effect hypothesis, and combination hypothesis. The last hypothesis has won the acceptance of most scholars who consider that an outburst is the result of combined effect of stress, gas and coal (Yu, 1992).Numerous experimental measurements and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the permeability and damage development process in coal seam. Sobczyk, et al (2011) carried out a laboratory research of the influence of sorption processes on gas stresses leading to coal and gas outbursts. Wang, et al (2013, 2015) conducted laboratory experiments to investigate the rapid decompression and desorption induced energetic failure in coal using a shock tube apparatus. Xu, et al (2006) developed a coupled gas flow and solid deformation numerical model and applied to simulate the coal and gas outbursts in underground coal mines using RFPA2D-Gasflow. An, et al (2013) and Xue (2014) analyzed major parameters and the effect of gas desorption on outburst initiation and established a model of gas migration and mechanical processes during excavation."

"Rare earth resources are strategic and non-renewable resources. But disordered exploitation on rare earth metals leads to resources waste, environmental pollution and ecosystem destroyed. In this paper, soil collected from garden was cultured in thermostated incubator. Adding exogenous rare earth to the soil and the effects of recombination action of rare earth lanthanum, cerium and yttrium on soil enzymatic activities were studied. The results showed that single metal La and Ce can increase urease activity, but Y inhibits its. Coexist La/Y or La/Ce in soil inhibit the urease activity, coexist Y /Ce or coexist three metals promote its. Single metal La, Y and Ce can promote catalase activity, and that of coexist three metals. Pairwise coexist La, Y, Ce in soil inhibit catalase activity. With certain concentration of rare earth recombination action, urease activity in soil has been very significant direct proportion to ionic impulse, but catalase activity been insignificant inverse proportion to its.1. IntroductionThe increase of rare earth element content due to anthropogenic inputs frequently takes place in agro-industrial areas, leading to soil pollution episodes that may cause serious environmental problems because of their potential toxicity to microorganisms, plants, animals and human beings [ 1]. China is abundant in lanthanides resources. Rare earth metals are used in many frontier technologies such as photic devices, magnetic materials, and fine ceramics, and the amount of the rare earth metals used in these industries has been increasing. In addition to their use in industry, rare earth metals are more widely applied to cropland as microelement fertilizers due to their ability to promote growth and productivity of some crops [2]. As a result, more and more rare earth metals are moving into the ecosystems. While a permanent contamination of soils results in populations of micro-organisms with high resistance to rare earth metals, a short-term burden of contaminants at high concentrations could exert inhibitory effects on microbial carbon [3]. They accumulate in soils, bioaccumulate in crops, and enter the food chain, causing a potential problem of rare earth metals environmental pollution in China [4]. This contamination may also severely influence organisms and soil activities [5]."

The predominant methods for mining coal in the USA are room and pillar and longwall. Approximately 95 percent of the coal is mined by room and pillar and 5 percent by longwall. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has an ongoing program to improve the rate, quality, and cost effectiveness of stabilizing the roof for both of these mining systems. In room and pillar mining, the installation of permanent roof support is often the task which paces the system operation, and it thus controls the level of production achieved during any mining shift. Two automatic roof bolt insertion equipment developments are discussed, as well as a flexible drill for operation in thinner seams. Progress will be reported on under- ground trials of a particular flexible drill which has been combined with a bolt inserter to form a compact, reliable module for retrofitting to continuous mining machines. In longwall mining, the use of hydraulic supports on the working face provides roof stability. The DOE has several trials ongoing with shield- type supports in difficult strata conditions which are described, as well as a co-funded project with the Bureau of Mines on a resin injection remedial method for consolidating a shear zone at one site. A project to improve the match of strata conditions to shield design is also described, which involves the use of a 1360 tonne vertical load mine roof simulator.

"We proposed thermit reduction-electroslag remelting method of preparing the large scale CuCr alloy. But there are pores and oxide inclusions in CuCr alloy prepared by thermit reduction process. This paper studied mainly the effects of ratio of reactant and additive on the inclusion type and their occurrences in CuCr alloy. The alloy prepared in different process conditions was characterized via XRD, SEM, OM and TEM and metallographic microscope, in which the existing state and micro-structural defects of inclusions are analyzed. The results show that there are three distinct regions: copper-rich regions, chromium-rich regions and the inclusion regions. Inclusions are mainly in the form of stomata and Alz03 phase, mainly locating in the copper-rich phase and the interface area of chromium-rich phase and the copper-rich phase. Adding Na3AlF6 and heating agent can effectively reduce the inclusion content in the alloy.1 IntroductionIn recent years, with the development ofhigh power vacuum and high-pressure technology ,the CuCr alloy contact material which has many advantages gradually replaced the traditional W-Cu and Cu-Bi series alloy contact material, and become the first choice of material in high-voltage and high-power vacuum switch contacts['-3l. The traditional powder metallurgy method, infiltration method and vacuum arc melting method[4-SJ are using metal Cu powder and Cr powder as raw material by casting molding, and have disadvantages such as high production costs, complicated process, poor product density and low yield, especially in the large size alloy ingots[9-12l. At present, the world regards CuCr alloy new preparation technologies as the first place, and how to achieve a large size the CuCr alloy ingot preparation has become a hot research of CuCr alloy[3l. Zhang Ting-an and Dou Zhihe[l-3l who are supported by national natural science fundation of china successfully successful developed new technologies and core equipment to prepare large-size copper-chromium alloy through aluminum thermal reduction-secondary refining method, and obtained two national invention patents. The method includes two key steps: one is get CuCr alloy consumable ingot by Thermit-SHS with electromagnetic stirring, the other is to refme the CuCr alloy ingot to remove the pores, inclusions and other defects by electroslag remelting technology to get dense and uniform CuCr contact material. The preliminary study results show that means of electromagnetic stirring evidently inhibit effect of alloy ingot macrosegregation during the electromagnetic casting stage, but there are still microstructure defects such as alumina inclusions and pores in the alloy ingots. Therefore, Zhang Ting-an et al refer new ideas of using the electroslag remelting to refine Cu Cr alloy ingots and effectively remove the defects of the ingots such as pores and inclusions [3l _ At present, there is no report of study on the electroslag remelting refining processes of CuCr alloy (the refining slag, remelting current). This article will research mode of occurrence and distribution law of inclusions in the large-size CuCr alloy ingots by Al Thermit-SHS under magnetic field stirring action and provide a theoretical basis for chosing refining slag to remove inclusions by electroslag refining. Meanwhile the article analyses the effect of reduction conditions of Thermit-SHS on the types of inclusions, mode of occurrence and distribution of regular inclusions in alloy ingot, and refer theory for inclusions regulation in the large-size alloy ingots."

"CuCr alloy can be extensively used as contact materials in integrated circuit, electrodes, electric contact and high strength conductor. We proposed thermit reduction-electroslag remelting method of preparing the large scale CuCr alloy. But there are pores and oxide inclusions in CuCr alloy prepared by thermit reduction process. This paper studied mainly the effects of ratio of reactant and additive on the inclusion type and their occurrences in CuCr alloy. The slags and CuCr alloy were characterized respectively by XRD and SEM. The results show that when the additive is Na3AlF6, the slag consist of Al2O3 and Cr. When the additive is CaF2, the slag consist of Al2O3, Cr, CaF2 and CaAl4O7. The inclusions in CuCr alloy are mainly Al2O3 and pores which disperse in Cu-rich zone and Cu-Cr phase interface. When 5% CaF2 and 5% KClO3 are added, there are fewer pores and inclusions, and the more better microstructure.1 IntroduceCuCr alloy is the contact terminal material with an eximious properties[1,2], which gradually replaces CuBi alloy becoming the first choice for contact terminal material in the medium and high power vacuum switch after the 1970s. The traditional preparation methods of CuCr alloy mainly contain powder metallurgy, infiltration process and vacuum electric arc melting methods. But the above methods exist some shortcomings, such as poor product quality, high cost of production, processes complex ect[3-9]. Tower mill is considered to have a better regrinding and fine grinding effect compared with ball mill, and its application is much broader. The spiral agitator of the tower mill is driven by the motor. Media inside the mill is under the combined actions of the spiral mechanism, the cylinder, and media nearby, and these parameters are key factors affecting the grinding effect. However, it is not possible to obtain detailed information of kinematic law of media based only on traditional laboratory experiments, let alone the relationship between parameters of kinematic law of media and grinding effect. Experimentation is the only way to develop industrial equipment. However, this is time-consuming and costly, which hampers the further research of the tower mill’s grinding mechanism. The paper selects two structural parameters (gap between the edge of the spiral agitator and the cylinder wall, ratio between the diameter of cylinder and that of the spiral shaft.) and three operating parameters (diameter of media, filling ratio, the speed at the edge of the spiral agitator) as variables to do an orthogonal designed experiment of five factors, four levels, and thereby obtaining change law of grinding indicators of different parameters. Experimental equipment may be simplified to enable an applicable simulation strategy. Simulation based on a discrete element method is conducted to obtain the change law of the speed of media, collision frequency, normal force, and radial force. The relational curve between parameters of kinematic law of media and energy consumption of grinding is clarified, and key factors affecting grinding efficiency are determined. Those factors will be used for optimising the design and operating process. The research result of this paper obtained from laboratory experiments and computer simulation provides data support and theoretical bases, and has directive meaning and applicable value for tower mill’s optimisation and large-sized design. Ca-Ni based alloys were investigated on structures, hydrogenation properties and the effect of additive elements on hydrogenation properties. CaNi, samples were decomposed to form a new hydride with a CsCl-type structure on the constituent metal atoms at high temperatures such as 673K in a hydrogen atmosphere. The candidate of the third element which was added to stabilize the original compound was investigated by using the Miedema's semi- empirical model and, as a result, Pd was chosen. The hydrogenation of CaPd was conducted with a Sieverts' type apparatus and the synthesis of Ca-Ni-Pd ternary alloys was performed by high frequency heating.

"Seepage is a major cause of earth-rockfill dam failure. Numerical simulation of infiltration process, distribution of drift, flow velocity and direction after the impoundment can guide seepage control and evaluate its effects. A double field coupling model is established based on soil consolidation theory and the interaction between the seepage field and the temperature field. The simulation is implemented under the situation of core wall setted, core wall not setted, and core wall setted with concentrated leakage. The results indicated that the saturation line height was significantly reduced due to impervious core wall, and the temperature distribution is uniform above the saturation line. If concentrated leakage occurs, temperature distribution of dam was significantly changed, which is consistent with theoretical inference.INTRODUCTIONEngineering seepage field distribution must be calculated in seepage control design, optimization, and correction of new engineering construction of earth dams, as well as in seepage monitoring and evaluation of existing earth-rockfill dams. The aim of calculation is to identify the important parameters in seepage field, such as the coefficient of permeability, seepage flow, pressure, head, and allowable seepage slope, for effectively implementing seepage control design, correction, safety assessment, and anti-seepage reinforcement. These seepage parameters usually can be obtained by in-situ test and back-analysis based on reliable monitoring data.In order to obtain reliable monitoring data and reflect the earth-rockfill dam seepage state and change process, appropriate monitoring technology and monitoring method is necessary. The traditional seepage monitoring method is through site inspection and sensors (e.g., osmometer, piezometric tube and measuring weir) that buried in the structure and its foundation. At present, the Unmanned Construction System (UCS) is adapted on initial operation against the disaster. For instance, it has been used in Unzen. When the scale of the disaster is big, or the danger to a person is big, the UCS is expected as a quick and safe construction technology. The Remote Controlled UCS is introduced into construction site to repair earth-fill embankment or to remove rock, as urgent measures after the disaster outbreak. For improvement of the operability, shortening of the skill time, reduction of the fatigue, examination of the most suitable system (placement of a monitor and the joy stick) of the remote system is a main theme in the Public Works Research Institute (PWRI). In the report of this year, when the operator controls construction machine directly or he controls it using remote system (he can check the situation of site only via monitor), the degree of achievement, construction efficiency and construction precision were inspected. The remote system which is based on the system used at Unzen was developed at PWRI.

Oxidation Kinetics of SPHC was analyzed by TGA, and the curve of oxidation weight gain with different temperature was acquired. It is found that, when the oxidation temperature is between 500 and 600 , all the curves are linear; when the oxidation temperature is above 700 , the curves are close to parabolic. At the temperature of 900 , the oxidation weight gain increases dramatically. The TGA results indicate that the activation energy of SPHC steel is 146.19 kJ/mol at the temperature of 500 900 , and an oxidation kinetic model was set up for variable temperature. Based on the temperature change during rolling process, numerical simulation of oxide scales evolution was carried out for SPHC steel, and the simulation result agreed well with measured ones. It can provide a basis for estimating the scale growth and controlling the temperature on site.

Low-grade bauxite with A/S of 4.4 from Henan province was used as raw material and the selec-tive grinding of bauxite, grinding efficiency, particle size and Al2O3 and SiO2distributions of ground products were investigated using ball and vibration mills. The results show that the selective grinding can be used to realize the separation of aluminum from silicon within a certain particle size. The optimal grinding conditions of the ball mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 1.2, charge volume ratio, 40%, pulp con-centration, 70wt%, medium size distribution, F30mm:F20mm:F15mm=20%:50%:30%. Under the conditions, the weight rate of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 27% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 30%. The optimal grinding condition of the vibration mill with bauxite are as follows: grinding material to charge ratio, 0.9; charge volume ratio, 70%; concentration, 70%; medium size distribution, F40mm:F30mm:F20mm=20%:30%:50%. Under the conditions, the weight ratio of ground product with A/S over 7.5 is 25% and the recovery of Al 2O3is 27%. The research is significant for the rational and economical utilization of the low-grade bauxite.

"In the cement deep mixing (CDM) method, one approach to joint construction is creating a surface-contact joint. In this study, an unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression test was performed on cement-treated soil specimens with joints artificially created by successive pouring. The effects of the presence or absence of such successive pouring joints on the strength of the specimens were then examined. The results showed that the compressive strength of the specimen decreased by approximately 0%–30% with a successive pouring joint.INTRODUCTIONIn the block type and wall type improvement patterns of the CDM(Cement Deep Mixing Method) application, an integrated body of soil-cement columns is constructed by partially overlapping individual treated soil columns. The overlapping operation should be implemented before the hardening of soils by cement progresses and thus, this operation is routinely performed in construction sites usually within 24 hours or within 48 hours at a maximum. However, when the operation is forced to be interrupted on account of a typhoon or any other adverse weather conditions, it is impossible to carry out the overlapping operation within the above time limitations. In such a case, it is necessary to improve the integrity between the treated soil columns solidified first and the treated soil columns to be constructed later.One of the methods that can be adopted is to prior agitate the target area by mixing blades “without cement”, integrating the preceding treated soil columns and the subsequently treated soil columns at construction joints. This method has been adopted so far in numerous sites because no additional materials or equipment are necessary. However, its effectiveness has scarcely been evaluated quantitatively in conventional studies.In the circumstances, the authors investigated in the present research the effect of the presence or absence of construction joints on the specimen strength by performing unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression tests using specimens of cement treated soil artificially provided with surface-abutting construction joints.Therefore, this study examined the effects of the presence or absence of artificially created successive pouring joints on the strength of cement-treated soil specimens through an unconsolidated-undrained triaxial compression test."

Pulang Copper Mine, being China's largest newly built mine using block caving, boasts an annual production capacity of 12.5 million tons. Production level and roadway stability hold the key to the successful application of block caving. However, with Tong Kuangyu being the only mine in China which has applied such a method, we currently lack relevant experience in the successful application of the method. This paper has studied the influence of different rock mass zonings, fault thickness, fault dip angles, on-site construction quality on the production level, roadway stability of block caving through numerical simulation and analysed the roadway stability in different kinds of support solutions so as to ensure the successful application of block caving in Pulang Copper Mine. The results have shown that the existing support method in Pulang Copper Mine can meet the requirement of roadway support in zone II and III, but could not satisfy the demand in terms of support strength in the relatively fragmented zone I area. When roadway passes through the fault, the deformation of surrounding rock and plastic zone of roadway will gradually decrease with the increase of fault dip angle; the deformation of surrounding rock and plastic zone of roadway will gradually increase with the increase of fault thickness. An ideal support effect can be achieved through the joint support of grouting and bolting when roadway passes through the fault. In the measured model of on-site construction, there is stress concentration in the intersection between the access and transverse drift of ore removal. Unmanned construction technology used for remote control operation of construction machines has some problems to solve compared with manned operation of construction machines, such as fatigue due to long-term operation or decreases in operational efficiency. To solve these problems, we recorded the viewpoints of operators in both manned and remote control operation and analyzed the differences. This paper reports on our discussion of improving the operability of remote control operation based on the analysis results.
