"The paper presents the results of research on the development of gold and silver extraction technology from refractory gold sulphide flotation concentrate of one deposits of Nord-East of Russia. The concentrate is due to the complex mineral composition. Gold and silver are finely disseminated in sulphide minerals (arsenopyrite and pyrite partially oxidized by 7-11%). These are characterized by high content of silver 219 g/t and sulphide sulfur 32%, the presence of poorly soluble silver minerals (silver sulfosalts, fahlore, finely dispersed hypergenic acanthite in iron hydroxides and jarosite, etc.), and impurity minerals capable of interacting with cyanide (pyrrhotite, marcasite, nonferrous sulphides) and causing higher than normal cyanide consumption. Pretreatment of refractory sulphide concentrate by biooxidation using a mixed association of mesophilic and moderately thermophilic bacteria at a temperature of 36-40 °C for 120 hours oxidized arsenopyrite by 97.5%, pyrite by 93.5%, unlocked refractory gold, and generally oxidized the minerals absorbing cyanide and oxygen before cyanidation. Further oxidation of these minerals-absorbents was facilitated by the aeration in calcareous medium of the solid biooxidation residues of the concentrate. Sorption cyanidation of the solid biooxidation residues with addition of lead (II) of recovered 91.2% of gold and 82.9% silver from biooxidation residue, compared with 80.1% and 46.6%, respectively, for sorption cyanidation without the preceding biooxidation step. Biooxidation of the concentrate prior to cyanidation improves the recovery of precious metals, especially silver, and significantly reduces cyanide consumption from 18.7 kg/t to 3-5 kg/t of concentrate. INTRODUCTION Biooxidation of gold sulphide concentrates using acidophilic microorganisms has been successfully applied worldwide (van Aswegen et al., 2007; Gericke et al., 2009; Sovmen et al., 2007; Sovmen et al., 2009). At least 15 full-scale plants for tank biooxidation of sulphide concentrates are presently in operation, and the construction of new ones is planned (Bulaev et al, 2015)."

"Beneficiation of the epithermal gold mineralizations associated with an extensive alteration zone in the Serrenti-Furtei region on the island of Sardinia, is proving a complex issue. Experimental investigations have in fact demonstrated that while the ores contained in the upper parts of the deposit are amenable to conventional cyanidation, the gold contained in the refractory ores in the lower portions needs to be recovered by means of flotation, combined with leaching where necessary.The results of commercial heap leaching, carbon-in-leach (CIL) processing and flotation, designed on the basis of the experimental findings and applied to the oxidized portions and transition zones of the deep sulphide mineralizations, confirmed the expectations emerging from the laboratory tests."

Thiol collector mixtures are commonly used in the flotation of base metal sulfides and platinum-bearing ores. There are synergistic benefits claimed for these collector mixtures, with mixtures lowering total dosage requirements, improving coarse particle recovery and the rate of flotation. Some of the secondary collectors are known to have frothing effects. Therefore, a previous study aimed to decouple froth and pulp effects and considered only the bubble-particle attachments in the pulp. This was achieved through microflotation experiments, where various ratios of the ethyl and isobutyl chain lengths of xanthates, dithiocarbamates and dithiophosphates were used as collectors. Results from these experiments showed a marked increase in galena recovery using mixtures of xanthate with either dithiophosphate or dithiocarbamate. In the current study, the froth phase was introduced in the form of batch flotation studies to determine whether benefits noted during microflotation experiments would be carried through to a more realistic froth flotation scenario. The findings show that there was no significant difference in the flotation recovery between the best single collectors and mixtures of these collectors. In addition, single collectors that behaved poorly in microflotation experiments showed good flotation performance in the batch flotation experiments. The differences between the microflotation results and the batch flotation results are attributed to differences in particle froth stabilizing properties and/or differences in energy input between the microflotation and batch flotation cells. "For non-sulphide minerals such as oxidized minerals, fluoride minerals, and oxysalt minerals, there are generality in the molecular structure of their floating collectors, and similarity in crystal structure of the minerals. In the paper, adsorbing mechanism of these collectors on the surface of these mineral particles in different pH pulp was investigated by means of Pauling's rules & valence bond theory, Valence-shell electron pair repulsion theory (VSEPR) theory, Crystal and ligand field theory, and quantum chemistry simulation by DMol3 and CASTEP modules of Material Studio software. Besides, the role and status of hydrogen bond in the floating adsorption mechanism were studied emphatically, and the confirmation and characterization of hydrogen bond were explored also based on the test results. What is more, the conclusion “the effect of hydrogen bond can not be overlooked in adsorbing mechanism of flotation collectors on the minerals” and a new viewpoint of multi-polarity collaboration and hydrogen bond coupling were summarized eventually based on analysis of the measurements. Finally, a novel collector 2-Amino-3-Methyl Heptyloxy-Propylamine (AMHP) was developed based on the new viewpoint of molecular structure design, and its collecting performance was exhibited.INTRODUCTIONWhen it comes to the recovery of flotation, it is necessary for researchers to investigate the flotation mechanism of collectors. In traditional theory, when collectors were used to collect minerals, the attractions between collectors and minerals were divided into chemical, electrostatic and physical attractions (Wills, B.A., 2006). Especially, because of the reaction between sulphide minerals and sulphydryl collectors is complex and various mechanism has been proposed (Yoon and Basilio, 1993), when collectors were used to collect non-sulfide minerals, it can be classified into oxyhydryl anionic collectors and cationic collectors. In traditional theory, the adsorption of oxyhydryl anionic collectors were due to water-repulsion, and the adsorption of cationic collectors were due to electrostatic attraction between the polar head of the collector and the charged electrical double layer on the mineral surface (Wills, B.A., 2006)."

With reference to the test report carried out by Guangzhou Nonferrous Metal Research Institute in 1983, the mineral process flow sheet of Yichun Tantalum-niobium mine is determined based on the characters of ores and successful experiences in light of the problems in the existing flowsheet: The ore is desilted before crushing; the primary slime is separately treated; the staged grinding process used while the fine slime is collectedly treated with tantalum and niobium as the main recoveries and lepidolite and feldspar powder as the secondary. The flowsheet is featured by comprehensive recovery, low investment and low energy cost.

"Movement of mill charge in the centrifugal mill is essentially different from that in the vibration mill with circular path despite the apparently similar mode in the motion of mill body. As proved e.g. in [11], this results in substantial advantage regarding the comminution intensity of the centrifugal mill over the conventional vibration mill accounting approximately to one order of magnitude.Back in 1983, Bradley et al. presented a model of the centrifugal mill based on the kinetics of the mill charge by regarding it as a lumped mass. On the other hand, numerical modeling by ‘discrete element method (DEM)’ enabled us to observe the movement of each ball in the centrifugal mill with an extremely minute time intervals (Inoue et al., XX IMPC in 1997). The former approach rendered simple, even though approximate, expression of the mill behavior, while the latter method was advantageous in describing the behavior of the mill in terms of individual events taking place in the mill body, even though the result did not reduce to a simple expression. The characteristics of the centrifugal mill described by both these approaches proved to be in a degree of agreement. Thus, the kinetic approach was capable of presenting the overall view of the mill, while the DEM model was informative of the details that could not be depicted well enough by the simple math expressions."

Flotation is the most common beneficiation route for tungsten ores, but the predominance of minerals with similar surface properties poses a real challenge. This study investigates the use of Falcon centrifugal separators for gangue minerals removal and desliming prior to flotation. A typical tungsten-bearing skarn ore (Tabuaço, Portugal) is used, containing scheelite (CaWO4) associated with dense calcium-bearing silicates (vesuvianite), fluorite, apatite and light silicates (feldspars) as gangue minerals. Two types of Falcon bowls (Falcon UF and Falcon SB) were used, prior to flotation tests with fatty acids as collectors and a combination of sodium carbonate and sodium silicate as gangue minerals depressants. This flowsheet was compared with a reverse configuration, using flotation prior to Falcon concentrator, and with a classical flowsheet, using hydrocyclone and flotation. Gravity pre-concentration and desliming with the Falcon concentrator were optimized through the design of experiments (DoE) methodology. The influences of pulp density, rotational speed, feed flowrate and fluidisation pressure (for the Falcon SB) were studied for both bowls. Results showed that the Falcon can be used as a desliming and pre-concentrating apparatus. Separation performances depend mainly on rotary speed and pulp density for the Falcon UF, whereas rotary speed and fluidisation pressure are the main parameters for the Falcon SB. With only one stage of Falcon SB, an enrichment ratio of 7.9 is obtained with a 65% WO3 recovery while 89% of apatite and fluorite are rejected, which constitutes a very good selectivity. In comparison, Falcon UF shows lower enrichment ratios, around 2.7. In terms of desliming, Falcon UF is as efficient as the hydrocyclone, while the Falcon SB is significantly more efficient. Hence, the use of Falcon SB prior to flotation improves the overall performance of the tungsten flotation route by desliming the flotation feed while pre-concentrating the scheelite. It impacts very advantageously the flotation, as most of the calcium-bearing minerals are eliminated. A Falcon SB stage prior to flotation yields a final concentrate grade of 29.7% WO3 with a recovery of only 36.8 % that should be optimized as the reagents dosages were not adapted to the pre-concentrated feed.

The comminution technology based on High-Pressure Grinding Rolls presses (HPGR) application is currently one of the most efficient methods of hard ore comminution from the scope of the energy consumption and the development of industrial HPGR applications in ore preparation circuits is presently the world trend. However, even though the technology is already in use in many countries, which are the leaders in application of modern mining technology, there is still lack of base investigations over the HPGR performance. Throughput and energetic models of HPGR performance are quite well developed, but technological models predicting the comminution effects still needs an in-depth research. In the paper authors present the method of modeling of HPGR products? particle size distribution with using of suitable mathematical models. A basis of the HPGR performance assessment and HPGR-based crushing circuits design is a product?s particle size distribution. In order to precisely determine the particle size distribution of a HPGR product, parameters of product?s particle size distributions should be conditional on the main technical parameters of the roller press like operating pressure and the speed of rolls. The most accurate approximation of a distribution of size particle d appeared the Weibull?s truncated distribution and it is possible to obtain significant relationships between the approximation formula and the value of operating pressure, or feed characteristics. It makes possible a determination of mass recoveries of the product?s respective size fractions and the productivity planning. Instead of pressure (P), the other HPGR operating parameters can be applied, but the P value appears to produce the most relevant relationship. The process of gold(I) adsorption on activated carbon (AC) from aqueous Na[Au(CN)2] and the state of the adsorbed gold cyanide complex on the adsorbent surface was investigated by photometry, XPS, XANES methods. By DFT method, quantum-chemical calculations were performed of the gold cyanide species on activated carbon surface. It was established that the binding of gold(I) with the surface of carbon involved several simultaneous processes governing the selective adsorption of gold(I) from the cyanide solutions.

"The present study deals with copper losses in slag from copper smelting. Copper slag cooling at Aurubis Bulgaria is traditionally done in pits. A new type of slag-cooling is introduced in the site, involving cooling ladles. In a previous study, the ladle cooling process was studied in detail, showing an improvement in the recovery of copper in the slag after flotation. The main reason for better recovery of copper is the increased cooling time, which allows for the accumulation and aggregation of copper droplets. The effects of the newly introduced slag cooling process are studied using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Cooling in pits and in ladles is compared, based on copper droplet size, distribution and content. Specialized image processing software is employed on images taken with an optical microscope. The results are then compared with a similar technique, available in SEM software. The availability of phase-analysing image software in combination with electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy makes it possible to study the morphological properties, distribution and chemical composition of the copper droplets. The obtained results confirm the initial conclusions about size, distribution and composition of the copper-bearing particles. A large amount of copper particles is examined showing an obvious increase in their size from pit- to ladle cooling. The results show an increase in the average size of the droplets, which doubles from pit-cooling to ladle-cooling. There is a well-pronounced tendency of decrease of the percentage of droplets in the smallest fraction (<5 µm) in the ladle-cooled slag. In addition, the number of droplets in the larger fractions increases, compared to the ones in the pit-cooled slags. It is believed, that the developed methodology for analysis provides a relatively quick and reliable solution for comparison of the cooling rates in the slag. INTRODUCTION In the process of copper smelting and converting, iron-silicate slags are produced that contain various amounts of dissolved and entrained copper. Different physical and chemical techniques are employed for the valorisation of the remaining metals in the slag – magnetic separation, leaching, roasting, flotation, etc. According to Gorai et al (2003), about 2.2 tons of slag is produced per ton of metal. In 2016, about 20 million tons of copper have been produced globally (www.icsg.org). At an average of 0.5 percent copper content after treatment, these slags contain more than two hundred thousand tons of copper which is lost due to inefficient processing."

"Generally, the concentration of bauxite flotation tailings is around 10%, a large amount of water in tailings needed to be recycled in the flotation process. Sedimentation and dewatering properties of tailings were investigated under different conditions. Surface high negative charges on mineral particles are the key factor to destroy the settlement of tailings when the pulp pH is around 8.9. Hence, the modification of pulp pH around 7 is necessary to the diminution of the repulsive force between mineral particles and then the acceleration of sedimentation of tailings. Anionic polyacrylamine with molecular weight of 14 million is the best flocculant for the settlement of tailings in all tested polyacrylamines. P-toluene sulfonic acid shows better properties than hydrochloric acid for pulp pH adjustment when anionic polyacrylamine with molecular weight of 14 million is used as flocculant. Although the flotation of diaspore is depressed in the presence of polyacrylamine using sodium oleate as collector, but the recycling water traded by the combination of ployacrylamine and p-touenesulfonic acid does not show the depression effects on the flotation of bauxite ore. The lower residual content of polyacrylamine in recycling water treated by the combination of ployacrylamine and p-touene sulfonic acid plays an important role. INTRODUCTION Generally, the waste water generated from mineral processing plant is usually treated by sedimentation, oxidization, electrodialysis, ions exchange, active carbon adsorption and flotation technology, and the treated water is also used again in the industrial process. Flotation was adopted widely to improve the quality of bauxite from low grade diasporic bauxite in China. For flotation, the grinding fineness of bauxite is over 90% -0.074 mm, sodium carbonate and sodium hexametaphosphate were used as regulators, so the tailings pulp is very difficult to settle and be dewatered (Y. Wang et al., 2004; Y. H. Wang et al., 2007; Wang Yu-hua et al., 2008; Wang Yuhua et al., 2011). The water recycling of bauxite tailings are becoming the highlight for the industrial application of the flotation process for bauxite ore. Researchers in China shift their attentions onto this topic."

"Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is frequently used as an oxidizing agent in various applications. It has also been reported to reduce the recovery of sulfide minerals. Moreover, the previous work applied H2O2 aqueous solution in selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite. However, the oxidation method suffered in pilot scale test due to too long conditioning time. Furthermore, the excessive reagent consumption increased the reagent cost, causing the method not economically feasible. Consequently, further improvement is required to reduce the conditioning time and the reagent consumption. The oxidation performance of H2O2 can be improved by using ferrous iron as catalyst, producing a Fenton’s reagent which is more powerful oxidizer than the H2O2 itself. Therefore, the effect of Fenton’s reagent on the floatability of chalcopyrite and molybdenite was investigated in this study. The flotation test results show that selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite might be possible at low concentration of H2O2 aqueous solution by adding ferrous iron. Moreover, the conditioning time could be shortened by this improvement. To understand the phenomenon, surface characterization using atomic force microscopy (AFM) along with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis were carried out. The AFM images show that the surface of chalcopyrite was readily covered with mountainous features which alters its hydrophobicity after the oxidation treatment. Meanwhile, the molybdenite surface remained clean and relatively hydrophobic. The XPS results indicate that the mountainous features are various oxidation products (i.e., FeOOH, Fe2(SO4)3, CuO, Cu(OH)2). Possible mechanisms of this phenomenon were proposed in this work.INTRODUCTIONConventionally, copper and molybdenum ores are separated in selective flotation circuits by using copper depressants (i.e., sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), sodium sulfide (Na2S), and Nokes reagent (P2S5+NaOH)). However, these depressants are usually toxic or hazardous. Therefore, various methods have been developed to replace these toxic and hazardous depressants, for example, by synthesizing new non-toxic or low-toxic depressants or by using various oxidation methods such as sodium hypochlorite in an alkaline medium, manganese dioxide, oxygen, ozone, and plasma pre-treatment (Arbiter and Young 1951; Barzyk et al. 1981; Curtis 1941; Hirajima et al. 2014, 2017). Recent study by Chimonyo et al. (2016) reported the effect of H2O2 on reducing the recoveries of sulfide minerals. Moreover, Hirajima et al. (2017) demonstrated that H2O2 depressed the floatability of chalcopyrite and could deliver a selective separation on copper and molybdenum (Cu-Mo) bulk concentrate in flotation process. However, they reported that this method required a higher concentration of H2O2 and a longer treatment time (4.5 h) to get a comparable result to that of using NaHS as copper depressant. Therefore, further improvements are necessary to reduce the conditioning time and reagent consumption."

"Adequate characterisation of clays is becoming increasingly important as operating mines move into areas of more complex ores. The processing therefore needs better mineralogical characterisation to identify problematic ores for better planning before issues arise. While a number of instrumental mineral characterisation methods are available, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) is widely recognised as perhaps the best technique for the identification and quantification of minerals, particularly clays. When an appropriate sequential and systematic sample preparation and treatment protocol is employed with instrumental XRD analysis individual clays can be uniquely identified, and the proportions of interstratified clays can also be quantified. The effect of sample preparation on the XRD analysis and identification of clays was investigated in this study. The results showed that sample preparation protocol is indeed critical to accurately analysis and characterisation of clays. For example, both dry grinding and micronizing affected the degree of crystallinity of kaolinite leading to the formation of reactive surfaces or changes in the physicochemical behavior. It was also found that the apparent degree of preferred orientation in platy minerals correlates directly with the amount of force/pressure applied during the preparation of backfilled powder samples. This work showed that manual preparation can produce highly variable peak intensities especially with minerals that show any preferred orientation. KEYWORDS Clay; XRD; kaolinite INTRODUCTION Clays are important in our life and they have numerous applications in modern world from cosmetics to environmental remediation. Therefore, clays have been extensively investigated for many years. Adequate characterisation of clays is becoming increasingly important as the mineral processing industry faces more complex mineralogy with the need for better mineralogical characterisation to identify problematic ores and plan accordingly. In most studies, X-ray diffraction (XRD) method has shown the unique capability to characterise mineralogy, especially for the fine grained size materials. The XRD technique is particularly diagnostic for clays. It is known that under ideal conditions, the peak intensities of an XRD diffractogram are proportional to the concentrations of individual minerals present in the sample. Hence, the qualitative mineralogical data obtained from XRD can be quantified, using either the internal or external standard methods. However, it is also known that clays are particularly sensitive to the influences of sample preparation method due to their physical characteristics (e.g. fine grain size, morphology, relative physical softness, crystallinity, thermal sensitivity) that could be destroyed by inappropriate preparation prior to the analysis. Thermal and mechanical treatment and grinding of clays can change their crystalline structure, and consequently, their characterisation results by XRD analysis. The behaviour of clays in grinding has been widely studied, especially for kaolinite (Miller and Oulton, 1970, Milocevic et al., 1992, Tomasevic-Canovic et al., 1992). With prolonged grinding time, the crystallinity of the clays can decrease (Filipovic-Petrovic et al., 2002). It has been shown that grinding may gradually cause the loss of hydroxyl ions of kaolinite (Gonzalez Garcia et al., 1991)."

Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores (Republic of Kazakhstan) as well as standardized test solutions containing gold, silver, copper, zinc and iron were studied. The best results in silver and gold recovery from Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores were achieved through use of complex cyanide-thiosulfate solutions as compared to individual cyanide solutions and thiosulfate solutions. It was found that such complex solutions substantially step up leaching process herewith increasing precious metals recovery rates. Thermodynamics of studied chemical processes was calculated. Reaction order, kinetic constant and activation energy of gold leaching process through use of cyanide-thiosulfate solutions were identified. We managed to prove that the sorption rates and holding capacity in process of gold anions recovery with anionite AM-2B are comparable to sorption characteristics for cyanide solutions. "At present, flotation rate characterization follows standard measurements to identify the overall flotation performance looking at the feed, tailings and concentrate in flotation cells or banks. This classical approach does not take into account the evolution of the true collection rate down the flotation banks explicitly. The potential for identifying the impact of the mineral characteristics (size and liberation) as well as the effect of different manipulated variables (reagents, froth depth, gas dispersion) on the true flotation process remains hindered. Top-of-froth (TOF) measurements, which consist of sampling the first layer on the froth surface, have been used to characterize the mineral collected by true flotation in rougher banks. The information provided by TOF samples allows evaluating the floatable mineral evolution (grade, particle size, liberation) down the bank. In this work, an indirect approach to estimate the flotation rate along rougher flotation banks is proposed. The new approach is based on the decreasing of collected mineral grades (on top of froth) and the feed characteristics. Flotation rates per liberation classes were used to reconstruct the TOF grades from the feed information. This approach requires a simple froth surface sampling, without constraints typically observed during mass balance surveys and uncertainties on the mineral recovery estimation. The proposed methodology was successfully applied at industrial scale using TOF measurements together with QEMSCAN information."

"In this paper, we report a simple and effective process for producing a surfactant mixture of O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (IPETC) and 4-(tert-butyl)benzyl mercaptan (BBSH). The composite collector was synthesized via one-pot reaction of sodium isopropyl xanthate, 4-tert-butylbenzylchloride and ethylamine using tert-butyl alcohol as solvent. The whole process for the synthesis of composite collector involves neither foul smelling reagents or intermediates, nor any by-products requires special treatment for disposal, and thus can be scaled up to an industrial level. The flotation response of chalcopyrite and pyrite independently with IPETC and BBSH collectors and with their mixture (the mole ratio of IPETC and BBSH is 1:1) was assessed. The microflotation results showed that the collecting ability of BBSH was slightly stronger than that of IPETC and that IPETC was more selective collector than BBSH against pyrite, and that the composite collector displayed a stronger collecting ability toward chalcopyrite than IPETC, and superior selectivity for chalcopyrite against pyrite than BBSH. The batch flotation results showed that composite collector exhibited better performance than IPETC and BBSH. It was demonstrated that the mixing of IPETC and BBSH would give rise to a synergistic effect significantly enhancing overall flotation performance. In addition, the adsorption mechanism of BBSH on the surface of chalcopyrite was conducted by adsorption test and infrared spectrum measurement, and the results showed that the interaction of BBSH on the chalcopyrite surface was dominated by the chemical adsorption, and the formation of a strong S-M bond plays a key role in the adsorption of mercaptans on minerals surfaces. The developed flotation reagents with special preparation method is the author’s original design, patented (patent of the People’s Republic of China) and have no analogues in the world of mineral processing. INTRODUCTION Froth flotation is an essential method widely used in the mineral processing industry to selectively separate valuable minerals from gangues[1]. Worldwide, more than 109 tons of materials are treated annually by this method with the majority being metal sulfides and oxides[2]. Nowadays, the judicious utilization of complex sulfides to meet the ever-growing demand of mineral resources gains more attention, due to the gradual depletion of deposits with high grade, making imperative the development of new high-efficiency collectors and mixtures of collectors to process complex minerals. In comparison to individual collectors, the use of mixtures has several notable benefits including lower dosage requirements, improved selectivity, rates and recovery and an increase in the recovery of coarse particles[3-9]. Moreover, in terms of cost and environmental issues, using collector mixtures can reduce the total amount of agents used, thus reducing the overall effect on the environment and economic costs without affecting the flotation performance. Therefore, the search for high-efficiency mixtures of collectors is still interesting and relevant."

Coal mining activity is inextricably connected to waste production. These include coal slurries deposited in environment. Current knowledge in the field of mining and especially mineral processing allows extracting valuable fuel from deposit coal slurries. The article discusses of previous works devoted to coal slurries inventory in Jankowice Mine in Poland (Upper Silesia) and quality assessment of coal slurries. 12 samples of coal slurries deposited in waste pond of Jankowice Mine was taken for the investigation. "Many double refractory gold deposits are characterized by the dominance of ""invisible gold"" (sub-microscopic gold) as solid solution or as colloidal-sized particles in different sulfides and other phases. These deposits are mainly composed of silicates and carbonates with moderate clay and mica content and with minor amount of sulfides and organic carbonaceous matters. The presence of highly preg-robbing and finely disseminated carbonaceous matter adversely affects gold recovery in leach circuits. Characterization of carbonaceous matters, commonly known as TCM and quantification of gold associated within these carbonaceous matters along with different sulfide and oxide phases is highly complex and challenging. Studies were initiated on various complex ore deposits and also on samples representing various process streams. This paper presents the development of a systematic approach to gold deportment studies using state-of-the-art mineralogy characterization techniques for quantification of invisible and visible metal contents in various species. The relevance of this mineralogy characterization to metallurgy will also be discussed in this paper."

The froth flotation process for separation of mineral ores depends on the establishment of care-fully controlled froth. The formation of very stable froth in the flotation circuit is a problem that may occur in many plants, resulting in down-time, low quality and grade of final product and considerable expenses. Froths build up on the top surfaces of thickeners, tanks and flotation cells until they overflow, or until the efficiency of the circuit is impaired. A similar problem exists in Assarel concentrator, Assarel-Medet PLC, Bulgaria. Copper and copper-pyrite ores are dressed in Assarel concentrator. They are characterized with variable and complex mineral and physical composition. During the flotation cycle, resilient and difficult to break-down froth is formed, which subsequently impedes the process of thickening and clear overflow obtaining. Due to this problem continuous sampling in the cycle of thickening was conducted. The mineralogical, chemical composition, particle size distribution and solid phase content of the products were determined. It was established that the solid phase of the froth build up on the top surface of the thickener differs considerably from this one of the thickener underflow. The data clearly indicates that a separation process takes place on the top surface of the thickener ? fine particles of chalcopyrite are concentrated in the froth. The role of chemical reagent addition in the break-down of the flotation froth is investigated in terms of surface chemical phenomena involved in the stabilized froths. Measurements of the coper minerals wettability and surface tension at the air/liquid interface were performed. The surface active agent AERODRI® dewatering aids were laboratory tested. Bench-scale froth collapse tests were conducted. Reagent addition into pulp-froth system promotes and leads to a bubble coalescence, an improvement of the wetting of the mineral particles and a decrease of the surface tension at the air/liquid interface. The results of the laboratory experiments showed that the presence of the surface active agent leads to considerably decrease of the froth stability and the destruction of the deleterious froths build up on the top surface of the thickeners in Assarel concentrator.
