"The research aimed at solving the problem of the stacked spent magnesia-chrome refractories using in non-ferrous metal smelters, which contain various heavy metals and are considered as a hazardous waste. The purpose of the research is to recycle the spent refractories environmentally and economically using gravity separation and flotation to obtain metal concentrates for smelting and using chloridizing volatilization to remove the trace metals from tailings, providing raw material to reprocess magnesia-chrome refractories. In the course of the study, laboratory techniques for the preparation of experimental samples of spent magnesia-chrome refractories were developed including the sequence of operations of material grinding, gravity separation, tails regrinding, flotation, filtration and subsequent unification of concentrates, filtration and chloridizing volatilization of tails, and collection of volatiles. Laboratory tests carried out on several types of samples of spent magnesia-chrome refractories from different smelters showed that gravity separation provided increase in quality of concentrates including about 80% metals (including Ag, Pb, Bi) and flotation separation provided increase in recovery of concentrates under the condition of 200g/t of emulsified kerosene, and 500g/t of combined collector. Based on combined technology of gravity and flotation separation, about 90% metals were recovered from the refractories by a closed-circuit test and the total concentrates contained 40% metals, which can be returned to smelting process as a feeding. Because a small amount of metal in raw materials will seriously affect the performance of refractories, chloridizing volatilization is necessary for removing the remaining 10% metals from tails mixed 8% coke and 13% magnesium chloride at a temperature of 1200°C. Thus, the tailings can be reused as a raw material for new refractories.INTRODUCTION Magnesia-chrome refractory has been used extensively in various industries such as secondary metallurgy, non-ferrous furnaces and cement making due to their high temperature stability, low thermal expansion and outstanding erosion-corrosion performance at high temperatures (Gotod et al., 2005; Vezza et al., 1997; Gregurek et al., 2015). Generally, the magnesia-chrome refractories are produced from a mixture of magnesia and massive variety of chrome ores. However, massive chrome ores are being depleted throughout the world. Even more serious is that the heavy metal chromium (Cr) can transfer into soil and water, which will have an influence on the survival and development of human beings (Zhao et al., 2006; Jiang et al., 2004; Qintie et al., 2013). As a result, regulations treating spent magnesia-chrome refractories as potentially hazardous waste are being enforced, making their disposal difficult and expensive."

The present study aimed to investigate the depyritization of coal using iron oxidizing and sulphur oxidizing acidophilic chemolithotrophic microorganisms in an iron free 9K growth medium at varying pulp densities. Three different coal samples used in the shake flask study from three different countries such as domestic anthracite (Korean), Indonesian and Chinese lignite. Experiments were carried out in batch at a controlled temperature of 35 °C and varied pulp densities of 8%, 10% and 12% (w/v) with a working volume of 100 ml containing 10 ml of microbial inoculum and 90 ml of the iron free 9K growth medium. Coal samples were crushed and ground to fine size fractions <100 microns by attrition mill wet grinding. The progress in the experiments were followed by the regular measurements of pH, redox potential, viable planktonic cell count, residual Fe2+ ion concentration, amount of acid addition and amount of slaked lime addition. The pyritic sulfur removal percentage varied between 90-95% with highest sulfur removal with China coal (95%) followed by Korean Coal (93-94%) and slightly lower level for Indonesia coal (90%). However the pyrite oxidation was highest for Korean coal ranging between 78-80% followed by a similar level of pyrite oxidation of 50-61% for the Chinese and Indonesian coal. It was found that 10-12% pulp density would be fairly feasible for all the different coals tested leading to an economical process. Another benefit from this study is the iron free 9K growth medium, which will reduce the operation cost and overall it?s an environment friendly process.

India is the 5th largest producer of steel in the world and is slated to produce more than 180 Mt by 2020. Expectedly about 50 % of this would be through the Blast furnace route and the rest through Sponge iron / DRI route. Considering that there will not be any major change in iron making technology by that time, the Blast operation would require lump ore (10-40mm) with around 64% Fe grade and sinter fines (<10mm) with 60% Fe (min) as its feed. DRI process would need calibrated ore of size 5-18 mm as the most suitable size of feed. It is also expected that of the total requirement of ore for the DRI route a significant part would be DRI pellets. In India, there is considerable debate going on regarding the technology to be adopted for the processing of iron ore and there is a lack of clear consensus. The above scenario indicates that the processing requirement of iron ore in the country would involve both washing technology as well as beneficiation technology. CDE Asia Ltd is in the forefront of iron ore processing in the country and the experience gained by the company over the last few years of functioning has led the company to believe that route to be adopted depends on the end product requirement and the starting grade of the feed. Keeping in mind the nature of the feed required for the Blast furnace & DRI operation; it is obvious that good washing technology would be highly beneficial to the iron ore industry. Depending on the grade of ore available the limits of washing will be decided and equipment for lump ore beneficiation such as jigs could be incorporated into the washing circuit. Scrubbing of ore either before washing or selectively scrubbing the lumps could be necessary. Very low grade ore and jig rejects would be required to be totally ground and beneficiated for the production of pellet feed in order to utilize the iron ore resources entirely. Another source of ore for pelletisation would be slimes generated from the washing process as well as the huge quantities already available in the tailings dams in the operating mines. Deslimimg and magnetic route of beneficiation could release at 30-40% of the Fe locked up in these tailings ponds/dams. The paper describes the concept with examples from operating plants and proposes how the adoption could be engineered through test work and proper plan of integration. Enormous amount of iron ore fines is generated, due to partly soft and friable nature, during mining. Coal fines are also produced during their processing. These fines cannot be used directly in ironmaking reactors. Utilization of these fines for extracting metal is of vital concern for resource conservation and pollution control, and therefore, a novel concept of agglomeration by cold-bonding is developed. Composite briquettes/pellets of iron ore fines with coal fines were prepared in the laboratory by cold-bonding technique. Various binders such as lime, Ca(OH)2, slaked lime, dextrin, molasses, fly ash etc were employed either alone or in combination in different proportions for making composite briquettes/pellets. It was possible to obtain dry strength of composite briquettes more than 300 N/briquette in some cases and more than 200 N/briquette in many trials. The combination of fly ash with slaked lime and molasses produced the highest strength, more than 400 N/briquette. Drop strength and shatter index values of composite briquettes/pellets were also measured. In briquettes, best compressive strength (978 N/briquette) is observed by using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) binder. In pellet, best compressive strength (362 N/pellet) is achieved by PVA; shatter index (0.1%) and dry drop strength (158 numbers) are also good. Compressive strength above 200 N/pellet is obtained by fly ash, slaked lime and molasses combination.

"We studied the mechanism of structural and chemical transformations of columbite, tantalite, zircon and feldspar surface during the treatment by high – power electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP) using the methods of X - ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), analytical electron microscopy (SEM - EDX), Kelvin probe force microscopy and flotation experiments. According to XPS and SEM - EDX data, major changes in the atoms chemical state of investigated minerals surface are related with formation and modification of functional cover and changing in concentration (% at.) of hydroxyl groups on the mineral surface, leading to increase in the contrast of technological properties of the rare metals minerals. Research has identified the optimal parameters of HPEMP - treatment of rare - earth minerals Npuls ??104, Ttreatment ??100 sec. improving the selectivity of the flotation separation of columbite and zircon. The difference in mineral recovery into the froth (? e) before and after HPEMP - treatment was about 11 % and 24.5 %, respectively. No significant increase was observed in the flotation activity of feldspar. This study's findings demonstrate the effectiveness of HPEMP - treatment in inducing a controlled change in the structural and chemical properties of rare - earth minerals and improving the process efficiency for the processing of rougher tantalum - niobium gravity concentrates.INTRODUCTIONThe importance of improving the processing methods of tantalum-niobium ores and concentrates is explained by the mineralogical properties of rare - earth ores. These are properties such as the variable mineral, chemical, and grain size composition, complex morphometric properties, and the dissemination of ore mineral grains of micro - and nanometric size. Iron oxide and hydroxide films on the mineral surfaces neutralize the surface physicochemical and absorption properties of the minerals. Both in Russia and globally, nonconventional (non - mechanical) methods are being developed based on physicochemical, electrochemical, and pulsed energy impacts to improve the efficiency of disintegration and liberation processes of disseminated mineral complexes and to enhance the contrast of the structural, chemical, and technological (floatability) properties of refractory ores. This study is devoted to the investigation of the applicability of high – power electromagnetic pulses (HPEMP – treatment) for the change in the structural and chemical properties of rare - earth minerals and improving of the flotation properties contrast."

"Liberation (QEM-SCAN) and surface chemical (time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry -ToF-SIMS) analyses have been undertaken on plant Pb circuit flotation samples with the aim of defining the factors resulting in sub-optimal recovery. Lead flotation circuit feed, cleaner concentrate and tails samples were examined on a size-by-size basis using QEM-SCAN. Sulfide minerals accounted for approximately one third of the flotation feed with pyrite making up 16 wt.%, followed by sphalerite (13 wt.%) and galena (3 wt.%). Non-sulfide gangue minerals comprised calcium carbonates calcite (26 wt.%), dolomite (14 wt.%) with quartz, feldspars and barite all contributing > 5 wt.%. QEM-SCAN analysis indicated that liberation was not the primary cause of the poor flotation response. Principal component analysis was applied to the ToF-SIMS data derived from five samples (as for QEM-SCAN plus rougher concentrate and tails) to enable identification of correlated surface chemical components. Although a significant range of correlations were observed we focus here on those that show a discernible pattern throughout the float circuit. It was found that for the flotation feed the surface of galena were largely obscured but where Pb was observed there was a strong correlation to surface Fe. For the rougher and cleaner concentrates the galena surfaces were relatively clean with no correlation to Fe for the rougher concentrate and minor correlation in the cleaner concentrate. However, in the rougher and cleaner tails the clear correlation of galena with Fe was again apparent. These results suggest, in combination with prior studies of pyrite morphology, that the principal factor effecting grade is the rapid oxidation of the framboidal pyrite resulting in the contamination of the galena surface with a high loading of hydrophilic oxidised Fe species, thus depressing flotation."

In skarn type scheelite deposit, there are calcium minerals with floatability similar to scheelite, such as calcite, fluorite, etc., which are difficult to separate. Heating cleaning method developed by Petrov has been widely applied in processing rough concentrate of scheelite for nearly half a century, but there exists a general lack of full understanding of the interaction between floatation reagent and mineral particles surfaces. The mechanism on separation of scheelite and calcium minerals in heating cleaning process was investigated by mineral flotation experiments, XPS analysis, as well as solution chemistry and crystal chemistry calculations. The results showed that the sequence of minerals floatability using sodium oleate as collector and a large amount of sodium silicate as modifier in heating flotation test was scheelite > calcite > fluorite, which was the same as solution chemistry calculations based on Gibbs free energy vs. pH and also the same as Ca-X intensity order by crystal chemistry analysis. There are two sides about the mechanism of heating cleaning method: one is that the adsorbed collector on calcium minerals surface is desorbed more easily than scheelite, and the other is selective dissolution of calcium ions from the mineral surface because of Ca-X intensity difference in heating and stirring process.

This contribution deals with bubble adhesion on particle surface which consists of three steps ? the liquid film thinning, the film rupture and expansion of the three phase contact (TPC). Our attention is devoted to the third step ? to the description of the TPC expansion. Three-phase contact line expansion can be theoretically described using hydrodynamic and molecular-kinetic models. Both of these models were originally developed for the interaction of the bubble with horizontal plane in pure water. Our experiments deal mainly with the interaction of the bubble with the inclined plane in the solution of surface active agents. It was proved experimentally that molecular-kinetic model corresponds also to these conditions and this model was used for the description of the TPC expansion. The model is based on the theoretical description of the bubble contact angle on the three-phase interface. These contact angles change dramatically from 180o to equilibium (Young) contact angle close to 90o. Modificated ADSA method is used for the calculation of the contact angle. This method utilizes the Laplace equation of the capillarity; the bubble profile and the contact angle are evaluated using the set of experimental points around the edge of the bubble. The comparison of the experimental and calculated bubble profile shows a good agreement. The aim of the project is to describe the process of the TPC expansion during the adhesion of the bubble with the diameter up to 1 mm. Inclined planes were used instead of an experimental solid particle. Our experiments were provided in the solution of surface active compounds. The process of the adhesion was recorded using high-speed digital camera and images were evaluated using the image analysis software NIS-Elements. Under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy, a project was completed in 2005, which studied the use of a special pneumatic capsule pipeline (PCP) system, driven by linear induction motor (LIM), for transporting minerals and/or mine wastes. In this study, the pipeline is a rectangular tube of 1m × 1m cross section. The capsules are similar to railroad cars running on small rails imbedded in the tube. A LIM is placed AT the entrance of the tube to transfer power electro-magnetically from the LIM to capsules. The capsules going through the LIM, propelled by the electromagnetic field generated by the LIM, move faster than the air and hence impart energy into the airflow. This in turn pushes the capsules in the tube forward. When the tube is long (say longer than 10 km), additional LIMs may be needed along the tube to serve as booster pumps. An advantage of using LIMs instead of blowers as used in ordinary PCPs is that capsules can pass through the LIMs unhindered. This enables the use of booster pumps for long tubes. It also enables PCP to achieve much higher cargo throughput than that of PCPs using blowers, thereby reducing unit cost ($ per ton-km). Advantages of using capsules with steel wheels running on steel rails in the tubes including: (1) contact friction is only about one-fifth of that using rubber tires, thereby conserving energy, (2) capsules can run at a much higher speed than those using rubber tires without overheating and damaging the tires, and (3) rails make capsule motion control simple; they restrict lateral movement of capsules, and make branching easy-by using standard rail crossing equipment. This advanced PCP system combines the advantages of LIM with the advantages of rails, resulting in a super-efficient tube system having throughputs an order of magnitude greater than that of conventional PCPs, and having an energy efficiency better than railroad transport. Analysis shows that the system is highly cost-effective when throughput is high-at least 5 million tons per year. The system is most suitable for long-distance transportation of minerals (including coal and flyash) and wastes (including both mine wastes and municipal solid waste).

As the high-grade copper deposits in the world become depleted, there is an increasing focus on developing lower-grade ores which contain problematic impurities such as arsenic. Indeed, many high-arsenic ore bodies remain undeveloped because of their high arsenic levels. Separation of arsenic from copper at the beneficiation stage is difficult using the current processing techniques and invariably copper concentrates produced from these ores contain high arsenic levels, sometimes so high as to make them unacceptable to copper smelters. New, sustainable approaches are needed to allow development of high-arsenic copper ores while at the same time minimizing arsenic dispersion into the biosphere. The most promising route for separating arsenic from copper at the flotation stage centers on the use of pulp potential control. In recent years CSIRO has demonstrated at laboratory scale, for a number of high-arsenic copper ores, that crude flotation separation between arsenic-bearing minerals and copper-bearing minerals can be made. The differences in specific minerals responses to changes in pulp potential and pulp pH are exploited for this separation. Such separations nominally produce a low-arsenic high-copper concentrate and a low-copper high-arsenic concentrate. The former can be smelted without penalty, while the latter requires further treatment to capture and stabilize the arsenic and to recover the residual copper. Consideration has now been given to treatment options for the high-arsenic low-copper product. A pyrometallurgical option, involving a low temperature roast to selectively fume off the arsenic and leave a high-copper calcine, coupled with an arsenic stabilization step, has been demonstrated in the laboratory, and a preliminary techno-economic evaluation shows the process to be economically favorable. These results were recently published. CSIRO has now investigated an alternate hydrometallurgical option, involving atmospheric alkaline sulphide leaching of the high-arsenic product, where the arsenic is selectively dissolved leaving a copper-rich leach residue. The leaching testwork was carried at on the same high-arsenic low-copper material used in the roasting studies, enabling a techno-economic comparison of the alternate roasting and leaching treatment options to be made. The alkaline leaching work is briefly described and the results of the process option comparison presented and discussed. Phosphate tailings through Flotation contains large amount of dolomite which is difficult to be separated from apatite. In this present research, phosphate tailings is recycled by Flotation i.e. re-processing. High-purity dolomite with purity as high as 91.17% is seperated, which contains 19.82% of MgO. The results of orthogonal test show that the effect of various levels of different factors on the high-purity dolomite floatated. Future utilization of purified dolomite is also discussed: magnesium fertiliser especially magnesium phosphate is expected to be an ideal product from high-purity dolomite.

"The flotation separation of sulphides bulk concentrate containing Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi, which was obtained by both table-flotation of gross sand of gravity separation of wolframite and bulk flotation of wolframite slimes using butyl xanthate and oil No. 2, etc., has been conducted by using the cyanide process in the tungsten concentrator. The process has problems of high reagents consumption (25 tonne of cyanide dosage per year) and mineral processing cost (800~1000 RMB reagents cost per tonne of by-product concentrates), high mutual containing loss in the by-product concentrates and serious environmental pollution caused by lots of cyanide-containing wastewater. In order to solve this problem, a new cyanide-free separation technology is studied, which is used to process this sulphides bulk concentrate with 8.68% Cu, 8.98% Zn, 0.26% Mo, 1.58% Bi and 40.12% S. The results of the closed circuit test show that Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi can effectively be separated from this sulphide minerals concentrate by using the reasonable flotation-gravity flowsheet, high-efficiency collectors and regulators simultaneously. The metallurgical recovery and concentrate grade are as follows: molybdenum recovery is 94.63% with 50.62% Mo content; copper recovery is 85.18% with 29.29% Cu content; zinc recovery is 75.92% with 46.49% Zn content; total Bi recovery is 65.08% with 16.86% Bi content. The new technology is an alternative to the cyanide process due to its low cost for reagents, satisfying separation results and economic profits, and solves the problem of environmental pollution caused by the use of large quantities of cyanide. Some important parameters in separating the Cu-Zn-Mo-Bi sulphides concentrate are also introduced in this paper. This study provides pretty good technical support for separating the polymetallic sulphide ores containing Cu, Zn, Mo and Bi by cyanide-free technique."

In view of the state of the long time use of sodium cyanide in lead-zinc-sulfur-silver multimetallic ore production, we propose alternative reagents system through experimental research. The experiment first used TJ, sodium sulfide to adjust the flotation pulp, after that, zinc sulfate, sodium sulfite was added to low alkaline pulp to inhibiting zinc sulfur mineral and adapted MB, 25# aerofloat and diethyl dithiocarbamate combination collectors to float lead minerals. The obtained test index is as follows: lead concentrate recovery rate of small scale test was increased by 5 to 10%, the recovery rates of gold and silver in lead concentrate were increased by 7% and 11% respectively; the industrial test is conducted under the condition that the total grade of lead and zinc content in raw ore decreased by 4.81%, the total recovery rate of lead and zinc increased by 7%, recovery rates of gold and silver in lead concentrate were increased by 7.62% and 9.65% respectively. So it successfully realizes the target to replace the sodium cyanide, using low-alkaline non-toxic reagents system in mineral processing practice of three kinds of complex lead-zinc-sulfur ore of this mine. Thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for gold has received much attention in recent years due to the growing environmental concerns over the use of cyanide. Cu(II) is used to catalyze the oxidation of gold and ammonia is to stabilize Cu(II) in alkaline solution. However, the presence of Cu(II) enhances the oxidative degradation of thiosulfate. The high consumption of reagents has made thiosulfate leaching uneconomical to date, in comparison with cyanide leaching. Therefore, further investigations are required to leaching under low reagent concentrations over extended periods where reagent consumption is low and gold leaching rate is low as well. It is thus necessary to find additives to enhance gold dissolution in the thiosulfate leaching system. Electrochemical studies using rotating gold disc showed that the oxidation of gold in ammoniacal thiosulfate solution increased significantly in the presence of a small amount of thiourea and the beneficial effect increased with an increase in the thiourea concentration up to 7.2 mM. Thiourea improved gold extraction in the thiosulfate leaching of gold from a sulfide ore under low reagent concentrations. Excessive addition of thiourea inhibited the leaching of the gold ore. The decomposition of thiosulfate was reduced with the presence of thiourea. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) results indicated that thiou-rea likely decomposed to sulfide and formed gold sulfide species at the gold surface.

By means of natural sedimentation, two different bentonite samples from Shandong province were purified, this paper studies the Hydro-properties of the two purified montmorillonite samples. Firstly, the layer charge of two purified montmorillonite samples were calculated by crystal structure formula reckon method and general hydro-properties were also measured. The research results showed that the layer charge of montmorillonite correlated well with its hydro-properties: mont-morillonite with lower layer charge had better hydro-properties, such as Mont-1, which had higher swelling volume and gelling value with lower CEC; while, montmorillonite with higher layer charge had worse hydro-properties, such as Mont-2, which had lower swell volume and gelling value with higher CEC; it proves that the hydro-properties of montmorillonite depends on its layer charge characteristics, layer charge characteristic is the inherent factors deciding the hydro-properties of montmorillonite, montmorillonite with lower layer charge has better hydro-properties than the one with higher layer charge. In this paper, the relation between the medium condition and colloid performance of Mont-1 are also studied. The results show that the hydro-properties of Mont-1 could be changed by changing slurry concentration (w/w) and shear rate or adding certain amounts of inorganic cation electrolytes, dispersants and surfactants. The viscosity of montmorillonite slurry could be enhanced by increasing slurry concentration,adding univalentcation electrolytes (less than 4% w/w) or proper amounts of dispersants and surfactants (less than critical micelle concentration); The slurry viscosity could be reduced by decreasing slurry concentration, increasing shear rate, adding proper bivalent (more than 4% w/w) cation electrolytes or proper quantities of dispersants and surfactants (more than critical micelle concentration).

India is endowed with a reasonably large reserve of chrome ore, amounting to about 100 million tons in different grades and is one of the leading producers of ore/concentrate along with South Africa, Kazakhstan and others. Chromite production in India has registered a 10 times increase during the last 30 years. Till late 1940s, the practice was to mine the high-grade ore for making ferrochrome and charge chrome and export the same leaving the low and medium grade ores stacked around the mine as waste material. This practice was continued for quite some time till the increase in world wide de-mand of chromite initiated an increase in production of chromite ore in India and the aspects of ?economy of operation? and ?conservation of mineral? dawned on the producers and associated authorities. Recovery of chrome values from low and medium grade ore was initiated to produce high-grade saleable concentrate. Suitable legislation was made by Government of India to induce and provide incentives to the operators to do so. First large scale chromite beneficiation plant in India was commissioned about three decades back at Byrapore in the Southern state of Karnataka. The ore, rather simple in nature and relatively free from clay, was obtained from underground. The processing consequently was simple washing and wet tabling. Further more, some test work, on the samples from eastern coast particularly from Orissa, was carried out at an internationally reputed laboratory by a large private operator and the plant was set up. This consisted of a combination of crushing-grinding-de-sliming-classification followed by concentration in multi stage spiral concentrators and shaking table. The plant was commissioned and operated successfully. Soon a state owned company followed suit on the basis of test work carried out in a well equipped Indian laboratory. The plant worked satisfactorily after some initial teething trouble and the company plans to double the existing plant capacity by installing balancing facilities. This development prompted a number of operators, including industry leaders to join the fray and the chrome ore processing industry flourished in India. More and more operators are now in the process of adding capacities to their existing plants. This paper attempts to chart the evolution of chrome ore beneficiation industry in India through a case study with reference to an existing plant. The process technology adopted and modified to suit the altered requirements as well as the future trends are outlined.

The recycling of end-of-life concrete into new concrete is one of the most interesting options for reducing worldwide natural resources use and emissions associated with the building materials sector. The possibility to realize a larger re-use of silica aggregates from old concrete, strongly contributes to reduce environmental impact (reduced exploitation of natural resources, reduction of CO2 emissions, airborne dust production, etc.).To reach this goal, innovative processing techniques, as well as innovative sensing units and architectures have to be developed. In this perspective an analytical approach, based on hyperspectral sensing techniques, is proposed, discussed and critically evaluated in order to perform an automatic quality control assessment, finalized to maintain a high standard of concrete demolition waste, from the earliest stage of recycling to the further processing stages, according to the detected in-situ demolition waste characteristics. The paper deals with the analysis and the evaluation of the problems related to the integration of this approach with state-of-the-art demolition and building processes and procedures. The relative abundance of coal in India compared to other fossil fuels makes it a natural choice as the primary source of fuel, be it for steel making, power generation or for other uses. The wide variations in nature and type of Indian coals formed during lower Gondawana period and categorized as difficult-to-wash due to its typical mineral matter association with the organic matrix call for suitable beneficiation techniques as the preferred option for quality upgradation. The good quality coking coals of the upper seams are fast depleting leaving behind the inferior quality lower seam coal. The lower seam coals presently being mined are mostly low volatile coking coal (LVC). They constitute about 50% of the total coking coal reserves in India. The beneficiation of Low Volatile Coking coals pose a major challenge and detailed R & D studies was taken up to study the beneficiation characteristics of these coals. The studies revealed that the liberation characteristics at coarser sizes are very poor and the coal is to be ground to finer sizes for liberation. The most important factor that determines coal cleaning efficiency is liberation of organic matter from mineral matter. To achieve liberation grinding is necessary as a result range amount of ultra fines (-0.063 mm) coal is generated. Presence of these large amount of ultrafine in the coal fines, often impose severe technical constraints affecting not only its floatability but also in the downstream treatment of the products like dewatering and cake formation particularly when it is beneficiating through froth flotation. In the present paper optimization of ultra fines (-0.063 mm) has been tried for a LVC coal of Jharia coal field for the better liberation and beneficiation of the above coal fines. It is observed that by optimized, combination of size and number of balls generation of fines can be controlled with liberation. Keywords: coking coal, liberation, floatability, dewatering

"Ore sorting technology has been rapidly advancing in recent years. Improving expected mill feed grade has a significant benefit to project returns, and can no longer be ignored. When there is an increase in the mill feed grade while maintaining the same throughput, the mine will be able to process much more metal and improve the floatation recovery. There are many more factors that contribute toward the economics of the project by implementing sensor-based sorting technologies covered in this paper. This paper reviews the economic impact on an underground copper-silver deposit with references to the concept of ""profit recovery,"" which is the measurement of recovery based on rock profitability rather than just metal content. The economic impact of sensor-based sorting is discussed in detail throughout the paper. The preliminary economic evaluation of the project compares the mine's base case design versus a design incorporating sensor-based sorting. The paper's primary focus is on economic impacts rather than the explanation of the sensor based sorting results. The sorting data is presented on a scoping level and using a sensor-based sorting study where the best possible results are used for obtaining the grade recovery curves. Also, the breakdown and analysis of the project economics are based on the operating cost available from the particular operation. Any assumptions taken into consideration are also outlined and discussed. INTRODUCTION The mining industry has been adopting Sensor-based ore sorting technology fairly rapidly in the recent years. The ability to increase mill feed grade by rejecting waste grade rocks early in the processing stage is proving to be revolutionary for some operations. These potential outcomes should not be overlooked by both producing operations and prospective projects, thus leading to a wide range of studies on ore sorting. The answer to this is the creation of a new term and concept - Profit Recovery™."
