Based on the differences in hardness and density of diaspore and aluminosilicate minerals which usually exist in Chinese diasporic bauxite, It is analysed that bauxite of this kind is difficult to be separated effectively by classification and normal gravity separation, and cyclonic centrifugal field was thus proposed to be carried out, in which classification can take place according to the size difference resulted from selective grinding, what?s more, the separation function according to density difference is expected to take effect at the same time, and then cyclonic separation tests for diasporic bauxite of A/S 4.39 and grinding 61.90% -0.074mm were carried out tentatively. The results showed that the accretion of feed pressure can offer strong enough centrifugal force for cyclonic separation with result that separation function according to density difference is effectively intensified, by the increasing of this parameter, underflow and overflow of A/S 7.64 and 2.18 can be processed at the same time, and the recovery of Al2O3 in underflow is 71.78%; judging by the flow ratio, the spatial locality envelope of zero vertical velocity do constringe to the vertical axis by the enlarging of diameter ratio of apex to vortex, overflow and underflow of A/S 2.08 and 6.5~7.0 can be processed by controlling this structural parameter, which is possible to offer a technological method for low-grade bauxite to de-sliming beforehand.

Effect of applied DC potentials on the bioleaching of a chalcopyrite concentrate in the presence of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans is discussed. Copper dissolution was the highest at an applied potential of +600mV (SCE), while all the dissolved copper got cathodically deposited at a negative potential of -600mV (SCE). Electrobioleaching at an applied potential of +600mV (SCE) was established at different pulp densities as a function of time. Effect of the magnitude of electrolytic currents on the activity and growth of bacterial cells was studied. Preadaptation of bacterial cells to the concentrate slurry and electrolytic growth conditions significantly enhanced copper dissolution. Electrochemical and biochemical mechanisms involved in electrobioleaching are illustrated with respect to oxidative dissolution and bio catalysis of anodic oxidation.

Phosphorus slag is one of the most large-tonnage of yellow phosphorus production waste, which for decades stored in the slag disposal, by polluting the environment and creating environmental problems in the regions. Phosphorus slags from the processing of Karatau phosphorites are a very promising source of raw materials not only for silicon compounds but also rare earth metals (REM). Among the REM, yttrium, neodymium, europium and lutetium predominate, which are relevant to high-tech industries. The report presents technological scheme of complex processing of slags of phosphoric production with obtaining of REM concentrate and precipitated silicon dioxide ("white soot"). The regime parameters of the main operations of the technology are determined: I stage- leaching of slag with nitric acid solution; extraction of the REM-containing solution with tributyl phosphate and stripping of the REM with water; settling of solution of salts of oxalic acid, calcining the precipitate to obtain a concentrate S REM oxides and II stage of leaching silicon cake to obtain "white soot". Recovery of S REM from slags of phosphoric production on various redistribution has made, %: leaching – 95.0; extraction - 90.2; extraction on the average ~ 93.2; the production of a concentrate of REM oxide is 93.9. A concentrate containing 17.3 % of REM oxides was obtained. According to X-ray analysis it contains the following phases: calcium oxide, portlandite2, gadolinium oxide and yttrium, gadolinium oxide, gadolinium oxide and cerium, neodymium oxide, neodymium oxide and cerium. Thus, the concentrate can serve as a raw material for the production of individual rare-earth metals like gadolinium, cerium, yttrium and neodymium. After performing the II stage of leaching siliceous cake with nitric acid the samples of "white soot" were obtained. Its chemical composition corresponds to the state standard and has a specific surface area equal to 180 - 200 m2/g. The technology has been tested in a large-scale laboratory scale and will solve the problem of complex processing of phosphorus raw materials and import substitution in Kazakhstan. The end-to-end recovery of S REM oxides and silicon into concentrate and product from their initial content in slags is ~ 75.0 and 98.0 %, respectively.

Surface chemical factors, including the balance of hydrophobic (e.g. collectors) and hydrophilic (e.g. oxidation products, precipitates) species, are major control determinants in flotation rates of specific minerals and therefore grade and recovery. There are a number of challenges involved with the surface analysis of different mineral phases from process streams in a flotation facility. The first is to collect samples that are representative of the process and retain their surface chemistry prior to introduction into the instrument. The second challenge in studying the surface chemistry of specific minerals is to find reliable methods of mineral phase recognition. In surface analysis of mineral particles, confident mineral selection can be difficult with many multi-metal minerals and with precipitated, adsorbed, reacted and contaminant species in the outermost molecular layers. The third challenge is to provide a statistical surface analysis of multiple grains of the same mineral. Methods to achieve these aims are described. Principal component analysis (PCA) of ToF-SIMS data provides improvement in phase recognition, particle selection and associated variations in surface species. Specific examples from both lab and plant operations, demonstrate that this technique can be utilized to differentiate surface chemical factors promoting (hydrophobic species) or inhibiting (hydrophilic species) flotation. A study of copper ion transfer (inadvertent activation) from chalcopyrite to pyrite and sphalerite clearly identified a statistical difference in copper intensities between the sphalerite and pyrite phases corresponding to their flotation response. The PCA analysis applied to concentrate and tails samples collected from the Inco Matte Concentrator demonstrated extensive CuOH and NiOH transfer between chalcocite and heazlewoodite minerals. The statistical analysis has been able to identify mechanisms controlling recovery and selectivity. High intensity conditioning (HIC) tests in which sphalerite was separated from a complex sulfide ore gave a 5% increase in the overall Zn recovery. The PCA/ToF-SIMS statistical analysis revealed the discriminating depressant action of adherent aluminosilicate (gangue) fine particles and adsorbed ions on the surface of sphalerite grains. HIC conditioning resulted in the removal of these gangue fines improving surface collector attachment efficiency.

"CFM pneumatic flotation machines were developed by the Institute of Materials Science and Metallurgy, UrFU, and designed to concentrate a wide range of ores and man-made materials. A key principle of work is pulp preparation for flotation owing to its saturation with finely dispersed air bubbles in ejectors. CFM plants, their advantages over domestic and foreign prototypes are described. CFM pneumatic machine commercialization resulted in: - machines demonstrated high floatation efficiency for concentration of rebellious pyrrhotite-bearing copper and zink by simultaneous floatation of copper and zinc minerals and depressing pyrrhotite. CFM- 1400M introduction allowed simplifying and optimizing the flow chart and increase extraction of copper - by 5.4%, zinc - by 9.5% and improve the quality of copper (3% Cu) and zinc (1.5% Zn) concentrates. - due to copper pyrite concentration by using CFM 1400M overall copper recovery was increased by 1.5 %, and the content of copper in concentrates - by1%. According to the results of pilot runs, the use of CFM flotation for zinc cakes concentration strongly intensifies the process of cleaning water-soluble metal compounds and, thereby, increases the efficiency of flotation concentration and subsequent milling. CFM machines showed higher specific capacity (three or four times higher) (both for feed material and froth product). Specifically, CFM froth product has higher content of useful elements (silver by 0.014 % abs. zinc by 0.31% abs.) and better extraction (silver by 6.08% abs., zinc by 0.31% abs., and sulfide sulfur by 13.7 %). Sulfide sulfur content of CFM product chamber as compared to mechanical flotation machines is two times lower (0.48 vs. 0.95 %)."

"More than 400 plants in the world are able to accumulate nickel (Ni) in their aerial parts at concentrations higher than 10 g per kg of dry biomass. Then, Ni can be recovered from the biomass of these hyperaccumulator plants. Agromining is a chain consisting in growing such plants and producing metal. It has been developed thanks to the combined know-how of agronomy and hydrometallurgy. Hydrometallurgical processes have been designed; two different pathways were developed: i) acid leaching of ashes after biomass combustion and ii) direct Ni water extraction after biomass grinding. Experiments with 2 species of Ni hyperaccumulators (A. murale from the Balkans and R. bengalensis from Malaysia) have shown that the first process is very robust and transposable. For the second one, the way Ni is stored in the plant has a strong influence on extraction. A. murale transformation was explored in more details from the lab scale to the pilot scale. Results proved that Ni is totally transferred into the aqueous phase after 2 hours at 90 °C. A life cycle assessment has clearly shown the environmental interest of this approach (especially by detoxifying agricultural soils). INTRODUCTION Agromining is an emerging phytotechnology aiming at recovering metals thanks to hyperaccumulating plants (van der Ent et al., 2018). These plants are able to accumulate very high concentrations of metal in their aerial parts. For example, for nickel, the hyperaccumulation threshold is 0.1%, i.e. 10 grams of metal per kilogram of dry biomass. There are some advantages to use this technology instead of conventional mining techniques: •,Treating unconventional metal resources: they can be (i) natural soils with low concentrations but also low fertility because of the metal presence (like serpentine soils for Ni) (Bani et al., 2015), (ii) mine tailings or (iii) industrial wastes (like surface treatment sludge) after soil construction (Rue, 2017);"

This contribution deals with the mineral processing of Li-silicate greisen-type ores comprising of quartz, topaz and zinnwaldite (lithium-rich mica). The origin of the greisen-type ores processed is the Ore Mountains(Germany) where it is explored as a potential resource for the production of lithium carbonate. The goal is to develop a process chain for the enrichment of zinnwaldite using dry techniques only. As basis for the investigation the process chain, which historically was used to process the greisen focused on cassiterite and wolframite, is taken and modified towards the zinnwaldite. Starting with crushed material with particle sizes smaller than 35 millimeters, investigations on different approaches to grinding to liberate mica from gangue are carried out. Concentrates of zinnwaldite are then produced by magnetic separation of size fractions. To assess the success of grinding, classification and separation, mineral liberation analysis and atomic absorption spectroscopy are used. The amount of lithium measured in the sample with atomic absorption spectroscopy was used to calculate the content of zinnwaldite based on its known mineral chemistry. Combined with the particle size distributions, product qualities are determined. Altogether, this allows the thorough evaluation of the success of comminution with focus on following steps of concentration. Most of the iron ore washing plants set up in India consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing and classification by screw classifiers followed by multi-stage hydrocycloning of screw classifiers? overflow. The underflow of the hydrocyclones forms the concentrate which is used for pellets making. As the cut-point of hydrocyclones is generally at 20 microns, relatively lower diameter cyclones in a cluster with parallel feeding are used. This is found to, often, result in choking of the spigots, at times, by extraneous material as well reporting along with the slurry. It is observed to lead to sub-optimum performance of the cyclones with loss of iron values into cyclone overflow and thereafter into tailings. Analysis of data of an operating beneficiation plant (Beneficiation Plant - 1, BP - 1) of M/s Jindal South West (JSW) Steel Limited, Karnataka, India over a period of one year indicated that weight recovery of the concentrate from two-stage hydrocycloning was 45% (with respect to feed to the cyclones) and assaying 63.43% Fe, 4.43% SiO2 and 2.32% Al2O3. CSIR - National Metallurgical Laboratory - Madras Centre (NML - MC), India developed flotation process for processing screw classifier overflow with a view to improve the recovery of ultrafine iron values from it. Detailed investigations at laboratory scale flotation column and on-site pilot plant trials proved that the production of the concentrate and productivity of the plant could be enhanced by adopting reverse cationic column flotation technology. It was established that a typical screw classifier overflow analyzing 60.54% Fe, 5.95% SiO2 and 3.67% Al2O3 could be upgraded to 64.21% Fe, 2.64% SiO2 and 2.20% Al2O3 with 82.7% weight and 84.7% Fe recovery. This translates into an increase of 80% in weight recovery of the concentrate compared to what is being obtained, at present, by two-stage cycloning. It had an added advantage of reduced SiO2 in the concentrate. Thus, SiO2 in the final concentrate could be reduced to 2.64% from 4.43% by adopting column flotation. The concentrate so generated meets the stringent specifications, especially in terms of alumina in it(should be less than 2.50%) for pellets making. Later, JSW Steel Limited set up the flotation plant in BP - 1 based on the process developed by NML - MC and was commissioned in 2010. "At present, flotation rate characterization follows standard measurements to identify the overall flotation performance looking at the feed, tailings and concentrate in flotation cells or banks. This classical approach does not take into account the evolution of the true collection rate down the flotation banks explicitly. The potential for identifying the impact of the mineral characteristics (size and liberation) as well as the effect of different manipulated variables (reagents, froth depth, gas dispersion) on the true flotation process remains hindered. Top-of-froth (TOF) measurements, which consist of sampling the first layer on the froth surface, have been used to characterize the mineral collected by true flotation in rougher banks. The information provided by TOF samples allows evaluating the floatable mineral evolution (grade, particle size, liberation) down the bank. In this work, an indirect approach to estimate the flotation rate along rougher flotation banks is proposed. The new approach is based on the decreasing of collected mineral grades (on top of froth) and the feed characteristics. Flotation rates per liberation classes were used to reconstruct the TOF grades from the feed information. This approach requires a simple froth surface sampling, without constraints typically observed during mass balance surveys and uncertainties on the mineral recovery estimation. The proposed methodology was successfully applied at industrial scale using TOF measurements together with QEMSCAN information."

With the progressive depletion of known resources of good quality coal and minerals as well as the increasing demand of these minerals by different user industries, the emphasis has been shifted all over the world from selective mining to bulk mining followed by up- gradation to obtain the required quality of concentrate. The column flotation cell is one of the alternatives to reduce the gangue content of fines because of its inherent characteristics viz. easier to operate, low space required, no moving parts etc. A laboratory flotation column is used to conduct experiment. Present work has been undertaken to observe the effect of process variables (gas flow rate, feed/slurry flow rate, and frother concentration) on gas dispersion parameters (gas holdup, bubble surface area flux) in collection zone and to explore the effect of feed (slurry) inlet orientations and gas flow rate on column?s metallurgical performance. The effects of solid particle concentration, size and type (hydrophobic and hydrophilic) of solid on gas dispersion parameters have also been investigated. Test work has been performed in a continuously operating Perspex column (10 cm in diameter and 168 cm in height) using coal, sphalerite and dolomite as solid. Gas hold-up has been measured by phase separation method and mean bubble sizes are estimated from a drift flux analysis. The influence of operating parameters on bubble surface area flux has been discussed. It is observed that gas holdup in collection zone is affected by air as well as feed flow rates and also solid?s type. It is also found that addition of solid decreases the gas holdup and rate of decrease in gas holdup increases when solid concentration increases and particle size increases. Increase in gas flow rate increases recovery in collection zone due to increase in number of bubbles per unit volume of the column. From the experimental results it is evident that cross-current orientation of feed inlet shows slightly better metallurgical performance compared to other orientations. "Particle-bed compressive stressing is the main work mechanism of comminution by high pressure grinding rolls(HPGR). An experimental study on comminution and mineral liberation of two copper sulfide ores was carried out using a piston-die compressive stressing rig to simulate the situation of comminution with HPGR as the final-grinding device. The tests carried out include compressive comminution tests on particle-bed with narrow-size feed, and the locked-cycle comminution test on particle-bed with broad-size feed, which was then compared to a corresponding locked-cycle test of ball-mill grinding. The narrow-size feed is made up of particles in the size range 2.36~3.35 mm, whereas the broad-size feed of particles in the size range 0~3.35 mm. The liberation analysis for copper-mineral in the comminution products was accomplished using BPMA system – an automatic mineral liberation analyzer developed by BGRIMM. The influences of the stressing intensity and the method of comminution on the copper mineral liberation are discussed in terms of product size distribution, copper-metal deportation among size fractions, distribution of copper mineral among particle-size and particle-grade classes, degree of mineral liberation in size class as well as degree of mineral liberation overall.INTRODUCTION Traditionally, comminution process commonly applied in mineral processing is a flowsheet consisting of crushing of crude ore with conventional crushers, followed by grinding of the crushed ore in tumbling mills. In last decades, the energy-efficient HPGR (high-pressure grinding rolls) has found its application in mineral processing, mostly as tertiary or quaternary crusher to generate a fine-crushed product either as feed to subsequent grinding or as feed to a pre-beneficiation process before further grinding. Compared with the process of conventional crushing followed by grinding in ball mill, this mode of HPGR-application can achieve energy saving to some extent by reducing particle size of the feed to ball milling, and by reducing amount of the feed to ball milling if a significant portion of tailings in relatively coarse particle-size range can be discarded at the pre-beneficiation stage. In recent years, the approaches of letting HPGR take more comminution work from ball mill by applying it in semi-finish grinding mode or even finish grinding mode have been discussed (Burchardt, 2014). Although HPGR finish-grinding has been successfully applied in the cement industry for grinding of cement clinker and raw materials, this mode of HPGR application has yet rarely been implemented in mineral processing, despite the advantage of more energy-saving and other potential benefits such as preferential breakage, internal damage of particles and enhanced mineral liberation which may lead to a better downstream processing performance. The reasons for the retardation of the progress of this kind of HPGR-application in the mineral industry lies not only in that a finish-grinding with HPGR has to be operated in dry condition whereas most of ore-beneficiation processes like flotation are operated in wet condition, but also in that there are large variety of ore materials with various complexity of processing technology, which need to be addressed on a case-by-case basis with a lot of test work, in order to evaluate the potential advantages or disadvantages of this application."

The beneficiation test on low grade phosphate ore from a state of Russia is carried out. The rougher-cleaner ? re-cleaner system is used in the flotation process, The fineness of grind is 39.07% minus 200 mesh. The result indicates that concentrate containing 31.25% P2O5 can be obtained from the flotation feed assaying 6.18% P2O5, with 93.54% P2O5 recovery. The test result is also a guideline for further development of some currently operated phosphate beneficiation plants.

For example,the pyrochlore-monazite-goethite ores from one of the deposits from Eastern Siberia - Chuktukonskoe ore fieldare tested. The development of mineralogical methods, and testing of specific raw materials are shown.The method of small-angle X-ray (and also synchrotron) scattering, which was developed for solving problems associated with structural high-resolution diagnostics, was tested for bauxites of Vezhay-Vorykvinskoye field. Traditional technologies can hardly be applied (Chanturia, 2017; Bazin et al., 2014; Ponaryadov, 2017). The urgency of development of the concept of technological mineralogy focuses on the confirmation of new methods and approaches to the development of mineral raw, creation of scientific and methodological prerequisites for solving the problem of rational development of mineral raw, maximal extraction and integrated application of all minerals (both principal and associated), expansion and strengthening of mineral and raw base. The article is aimed at updating tasks that should be addressed within the applied mineralogical researches: – the forecast of quality of ore at early stages of exploration and technological indicators for the redistribution of raw, – interactive monitoring of these indicators by mineralogical and analytical methods; – assessment of environmental consequences of mining and processing of minerals and measures that eliminate these consequences."

Enhanced gravity separators such as Falcon concentrator which uses additional centrifugal force, are the most common gravity concentration techniques used for fine particles processing. Hence, understanding the kinetics and separation mechanisms within these separators is of paramount interest. Recent research yielded a predictive physical model for the Falcon Ultra Fine (UF) which however does not explain some results obtained with industrial ores. This study aims to identify the mechanisms involved in Falcon UF separation with the objective of confirming or rejecting the hypotheses on which the current model is built and suggesting potential points of improvement. The Falcon UF kinetics is investigated through the processing of complex low-grade and fine-grained ores from the Altenberg tin deposit (Germany), the Tabuaço tungsten deposit (Portugal) as well as a synthetic iron ore. Saturation tests are performed on the Falcon UF by controlling the separation efficiency in terms of recovery and enrichment ratio with time or feed mass. Results show an evolution of Falcon UF performance with time in contradiction with the stationary separation hypothesis on which the physical model is based. Observation of the concentrate bed suggests the presence of erosion figures in furrows which may play locally an active role in the separation. In terms of Falcon UF separation timing, three phases can be distinguished. First, upon initial feeding of the bowl, a bed quickly grows unselectively and ultra-fine particles are ejected from the bowl until the bed reaches its final profile. Next, actual separation occurs with selective concentration of dense particles. Finally, capture sites saturate and recovery drops. The evolution of partition curves over time confirms the existence of two separation mechanisms. First, differential particles settling within the flowing film responsible for the ejection of small size particles during the whole separation cycle which is already accounted for in the physical model. The second mechanism involved may be explained by the action of lift force, neglected in the physical model, which acts preferentially on coarse particles deposited at the surface of the bed resulting in coarser particles being rejected in the tailings. Hence, the addition of a lift force component to the existing model is suggested to account for this second separation mechanism.

"Magnetic seeding co-agglomeration, i.e. adding magnetic seeds, organic depressant (such as the starch), and pre-magnetization for co-agglomeration, was applied in the reverse flotation for hematite ore slimes. Samples of the hematite ore slimes and the pure hematite fines were investigated by the co-agglomeration, respectively. Flotation tests suggest that the depressing effect of starch in the flotation was further enhanced with the addition of magnetic seeds and the pre-magnetization. Following the laser size analysis and flotation tests, TOC adsorption analysis, VSM, surface charge measurement, AFM, FTIR study, and SEM imaging have been utilized to understand the depressing mechanism. Based on the results it was demonstrated that with the addition of magnetic seeds and the low field pre-magnetization, the adsorption of starch onto hematite minerals was strengthened through the magnetic seeding co-agglomeration. The co-agglomeration improved the flotation performance by introducing the magnetic interactions and acting the bridging adsorption of starch between fine hematite and magnetic seeds in a suspension, and then resulting in an intensified coverage of the starch onto hematite particles and positive action in the coagglomeration under the pre-magnetization.INTRODUCTIONFlotation is undoubtedly the most important and versatile mineral processing technique, and both its use and application are continually being expanded to treat greater tonnages and to cover new area. However, its influence was limited to a relatively narrow particle size range of 5–300 µm (Wills and Napier-Munn, 2006). The main reason behind this limitation lies in that fine particles have high specific surface area, so need relatively high dosage of reagents (collectors or depressants), and exhibit poor flotation performance while intermediate or properly-sized particles produce high flotation kinetics and need low consumption of reagents. In order to increase the recovery of fine particles, quite a few of flotation techniques have been investigated. Most of them are based on particle aggregation, namely, by enlarging the apparent particle size, such as carrier flotation (Valderrama and Rubio, 1998; Zhu et al., 2009), shear flocculation (Duzyola and Ozkan, 2010; Yin et al., 2011), selective polymer flocculation (Rubio et al., 2007; Song et al., 2012; Ng et al., 2015), oil agglomeration (Laskowski and Lopez- Vladivieso, 2004; Forbes, 2011), temperature responsive polymer flocculation flotation (Forbes et al, 2011), and etc. However, these techniques above-mentioned are mainly studied for the direct flotation of fine minerals, and most of these techniques have not found applications for iron ore slimes especially recovered by the reverse cationic or anionic flotation."

Hydrocyclones have been used extensively for more than 100 years to classify mineral slurries for recirculation in grinding circuits. Sometimes hydrocyclone classification is carried out in more than one stage to improve the efficiency of classification. Factors affecting separation efficiency include fluid velocity, density, and viscosity as well as the mass, size, and density of the particles. The geometric configuration also affects its efficiency; it includes parameters like cyclone diameter, underflow and overflow diameter, position of vortex finder, height of the cyclone, feed inlet geometry, and diameter etc. Besides changes in the basic parameters some modifications in cyclone has also been introduced from time to time which have affected its efficiency, some of these are :-(i).Introduction of magnetic force along with the centrifugal and drag force to control the flow of the magnetic particles inside the chamber.(ii). Introduction of sparger, air is introduced in the chamber in the form of bubbles, to control the flow of fine particles and hydrophobic particles. (iii). Introduction of dilution technologies for the dilution of thickened underflow. (iv).Introduction of new model. In spite of wide use and simple geometry, the real working principle of hydrocyclone chamber is extremely complex because of the swirling turbulent flow inside the device. In order to get more knowledge about hydrocyclones and to increase its efficiency, past 10-15 years simulation techniques are being developed. The simulation models also enabled a deeper insight into the static and dynamic behavior of hydrocyclones. Therefore, more emphasis on simulations by methods like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element method (FEM) is given. Overall, a status review of the work carried out on the analysis of hydrocyclone performance, modeling approaches and its contribution in the efficiency of mineral processing operation is highlighted.

As ore grades of existing and new ore deposits continue to decrease there is ever increasing pressure to decrease operating costs to maintain profitabitabitiy at existing mine sites and for new projects. The accepted solution to this dilemma in most cases is to increase treatment rate, leading to a coarser grind, at the expense of marginal decreases in recovery. The recovery loss is usually associated with losses of liberated and composite coarse material. This paper will review the practice of coarse particle flotation, including the reagent chemistry, cell hydrodynamics, froth stability, entrainment and flotation cell design, all parameters important to the recovery of coarse liberated and composite particles. This will provide a better understanding of opportunities to improve the recovery of coarse particles. Some examples will be provided.

"The copper mining industry in Chile and perhaps in other countries as well is faced with the challenge to implement the best practices in order to achieve a sustainable and more environment-friendly growth. Relationships between mining industry and society have been historically complex due to its environmental impacts. Whereas the ore grade has declined continuously, this has involved an intensive energy and water consumption thus increasing operational costs at different stages of the concentration process. In the case of copper sulphide ore concentration, froth flotation is the main technology used worldwide. The amount of the different chemical reagents used in flotation plants (i.e., collectors, depressants, frothers and modifiers) affects significantly production costs and has a negative effect on the environment as well. The objective of this research work was to evaluate the use of biosolids and their main components (i.e., glucose, proteins and humic substances) as more environment-friendly flotation collectors for chalcopyrite and molybdenite. For this purpose, microflotation tests were conducted in a modified Hallimond tube. In addition, FTIR and zeta potential experiments were performed to investigate the interaction of biosolids with these sulphide minerals. Biosolids and their main components may interact through physical and chemical ways due to different affinities with such sulphide minerals as chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite, which are present in copper sulphide ores. In alkaline pHs, biosolids and their main components make the zeta potential of the sulphide minerals investigated more negative. These results may provide important information concerning the behavior of the main sulphide minerals in the concentration of copper sulphide ores at industrial scale, wherein mill processes could affect their surfaces properties. Therefore, biosolids and their main components may open an opportunity to be used in copper sulphide flotation plants to partially replace conventional reagents, which are more hazardous and less environment-friendly."

The Bond and the Hardgrove methods are widely used for the determination of the material?s grindability. Generally, the determination of the Bond work index of inhomogeneous materials can be carried out with high deviation using the conventional apparatuses and methods, because of the highly different grindability of components. This is more significant when the composite cement?s grindability is measured, which highly affects the design and operation of cement grinding mills. A possible solution can be the combined application of the Bond-method with the determination of the component?s weight ratio in the product and perform the Bond measurement until the steady state conditions of grindability coefficient (G) and chemical composition of the components are reached. To prove the applicability of the above mentioned idea systematic Bond and Hardgrove grindability tests were carried out of two phase composite materials. The experimental results showed that the application of the combined procedure is proven in order to have a more accurate and reliable calculation of the Bond work index of composite materials, especially when the components have significant difference in the grindability and concentration. The measurements also showed the possibilities and limits of the grindability test methods.
