L?option de largeur permet au client de choisir un équipement adapté à son environnement de travail (1). La largeur de la table de forage peut être modifiée selon les besoins du client entre 48" et 96". Cette particularité permet une meilleure stabilité, et plus de précision dans le forage (2). Il y a 4 pattes hydrauliques à chaque coin pour la stabilisation lors de forage (3). La table de forage a 360° d?angle de forage sur 3 côtés du transporteur. La table peut sortir de chaque côté du transporteur de 40 ½" à partir du centre du transporteur pour faciliter la mise en place de la foreuse dans les endroits difficiles d?accès. La plage de forage est considérablement agrandie. Cette caractéristique qui fonctionne hydraulique, permet à l?opérateur de forer sans être obligé de changer la position du transporteur pour des changements de trous. Tous les types de foreuse peuvent être installés sur cette table de forage (4). Sa petite dimension lui permet d?accéder, par des monteries de 30" de diamètre, à des sites de travail de 2,5 mètres de hauteur et largeur. C?est un équipement adapté aux gisements filoniens. Ce genre de gisement est de moins en moins rentable pour les compagnies minières. La mécanisation des ces gisements va permettre de les rentabilisés en augmentant la productivité et la santé du travailleur, en réduisant la dilution (5). Les manettes de contrôle de la foreuse, les mouvements de la table de forage ainsi que le déplacement du transporteur ont été installés selon les recommandations d?un ergonome. Des recherches ont été effectuées par ce spécialiste sur les cas d?accident survenus avec l?utilisation de ce genre d?équipement. Il a déterminé les positions le plus confortable que l?opérateur doit prendre pour éviter les douleurs prolongées (6). Le système de roulement est composé de 4 roues pleines installées sur 4 planétaires de 9000 à 15000 livres de capacité munis chacun d?un moteur hydraulique. Des freins ont été installés sur les planétaires pour assurer la sécurité de l?opérateur et faciliter le positionnement du transporteur lors du forage. Des roues rétractables peuvent être installées pour faciliter l?accès sur rail (7). Ce transporteur peut être alimenté par une puissance électrique plutôt que par une puissance pneumatique. Cette puissance électrique est fournie par un Power Pack qui transforme l?énergie en puissance hydraulique. Ce type d?alimentation est employé lors du forage de développement, mais il peut aussi être utilisé pour le forage long trou. Cet avantage permet au client qui a un problème de pression d?air d?utiliser l?électricité. Par contre si vous utilisez l?électricité mais que dans un secteur isolé le gros courant électrique n?est pas accessible vous pouvez utiliser votre équipement en utilisant la puissance pneumatique. Le changement d?alimentation énergétique se fait facilement (8). Cet équipement est construit pour effectuer 4 types d?activités : forage de développement de niveau et sousniveau avec l?installation d?un bras porteur, forage et pose de câbles d?encrage pour soutènement de terrain, forage de production long trou et forage de monterie ascendante et descendante. L?avantage est que vous investissez dans un seul équipement au lieu de 2 ou 3. Cet avantage vous fait économiser dans votre budget d?équipement. En plus cet équipement est construit pour de dure travaux et ne contient aucun système électronique (9).

The following paper deals with a method for the" Proximate Analysis" of Chloridized Ores, which are free from arsenic, antimony and lime. When these are present the analysis is rendered far more complicated, and many of the methods which I am about to describe could not be applied. Sufficient scope is therefore offered for discussing the analysis, when these metals are present, in a separate paper, which I hope to contribute at a future date.I am fully aware that this method is far from being perfect. No doubt many, modifications and improvements will suggest themselves to my readers, and I trust that this paper will be the means of giving a certain impetus to the study of Proximate Analysis which at the present time is practically dormant. For the benefit of my readers who are not initiated into the details of ordinary estimations, I have briefly described well known methods, which, however, will be found fully described in most text-books of analysis. Assuming that the ore contains. sulphates and chlorides of soda and magnesia, sulphates, sulphides, chlorides and oxides of copper, lead, iron, zinc, manganese and silver chloride, the analysis would be conducted as follows. The first compounds to estimate are the chlorides and sulphates of soda and magnesia.

"Ore breakage and grinding media wear have always been considered and determined separately in laboratory tests. However the two processes are linked with the ore broken down in any comminution device being responsible for the majority of the steel wear experienced. The Comminution Dynamics Laboratory (CDLab) successfully developed a test methodology that can more accurately predict grinding media wear in tumbling mills than the Bond Abrasion test. This paper looks at the possible application of the abrasive wear methodology to determine breakage parameters of the same ore used in the abrasion test. Results indicate that breakage parameters comparable to t10 can be determined using the Steel Wheel Abrasion Test (SWAT), while using significantly less ore than standard breakage tests.BACKGROUNDThe Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test (RWAT) is an internationally accepted and widely used method for determining the abrasion wear behavior of materials. The abrasion wheel test was developed to primarily utilize a steel wheel (Brinell, 1921). Haworth (1949) criticized using of the steel wheel by arguing that increasing the contact area size in the steel wheel test causes a change in the wear rate with time. He suggested that the use of a rubber wheel instead eliminates this problem, leading to the adoption of the RWAT which was standardized in ASTM G65 (2004).Radziszewski (2002), however, found that the use of the Steel Wheel Abrasion Test (SWAT) was more applicable for wear testing in the mining industry for two critical reasons. Firstly, the major cause of wear in a ball mill, the most frequently used comminution device, is ball-ore-ball contact and also ball-ore-liner which both are metal-ore-metal contact. Therefore, using the steel wheel has the advantage of providing a similar abrasive environment to the one that takes place in a real ball mill. Secondly, the SWAT creates the potential of running experiments at much higher force regimes that are closer to what happens in actual mills, unlike the RWAT which is a low stress test."

Talc is used to remove stickies from pulp during paper recycling processes. It is well known that the interaction is controlled by the surface chemistry at the talc/water, sticky/water and talc/sticky interfaces. If the interfacial tensions are known, one can calculate the free energies of interaction and hence predict whether the stickies can be removed by talc. In the present work, the surface tensions of several different talc samples were determined using the acid/base theory. The information was then used to determine appropriate interfacial tensions, which in turn were used to determine the free energy of interaction between talc and stickies. It was found that the calculated free energies are much more negative than those between the stickies and other minerals such as calcium carbonate, bentonite clay and kaolin clays.

"This paper presents results from the proposed cyanide detoxification circuit for Seabridge Gold’s KSM project. The proposed flowsheet uses a two-stage CCD (counter-current washing/decantation) circuit to transfer the flotation products CIL(carbon-in-leach) barren solution to a SART process (Sulphidization, Acidification, Recycling of precipitate, and Thickening of precipitate) to recover copper and free cyanide from the copper cyanide complex. The SART barren solution is then treated by an AVR process (Acidification, Volatilization of HCN gas, and Reneutralization) to concentrate the cyanide that was liberated in SART for recycling to leach. The washed CIL barren pulp (the CCD underflow) is treated with the SO2 /Air process to oxidize residual cyanide.The goal of this complex flowsheet is to recover and recycle as much cyanide as possible and produce a final effluent containing less than 0.5 mg/L copper and CNWAD at the lowest cost. The SO2/air process is capable of achieving low residual CNWAD (<1 mg/L) in the final product, but the persistence of aqueous copper above the target level has been detected in the treated solution in some instances. The expected high concentrations of copper and cyanide in the KSM CIL barren ( >200 mg/L each species) and the difficulties this might create for the SO2 /air process was a key factor in the decision to consider including the washing, SART and AVR steps in the project flowsheet.The target concentrations of CNWAD and Cu were readily achieved after aging the SO2 /air treated pulp, as would occur in a tailing or polishing pond. This suggests no additional treatment will be required to sustain low levels of these species in the final plant effluent."

"Acid recovery is an important process step in pickling and leaching processes. Pyrohydrolysis in spray roasters and fluidized beds is a well-established technology to recover hydrochloric acid, but the hydrolysis in the liquid phase is more and more considered as an alternative new process route. The characteristic features of these three processes will be discussed along with select industry trends. For example, hydrochloric acid based leaching processes for ilmenite and nickel laterite ores produce far larger volumes of waste acid streams than the steel industry. Scaling-up of the spray roasting technology to the highest possible capacity is necessary in order to become more cost effective. In addition, process routes based on ferric chloride pyrohydrolysis allow the production of super-azeotropic HCl (up to 30 wt.%). Finally, the new ECOmode concept optimizes the operation of both pickling lines and the spray roast acid recovery plant. Long term results from industrial applications show that fuel savings in the spray roaster of 25% are easily achieved without additional process steps. An attractive feature is also to upgrade existing installations to higher plant capacities.INTRODUCTION Pyrohydrolysis is the conversion of metal halides into metal oxides at elevated temperatures in the presence of water vapor. Reaction products are a hydrogen halide gas and a metal oxide. The process was originally developed and introduced into the market by ANDRITZ Ruthner in the 1960’s. It has found wide technical application in the field of acid recovery and oxide production. The introduction of this process has revolutionized pickling technology. The use of hydrochloric acid has strongly increased over the last decades, since pyrohydrolysis is available for the total recovery of waste pickle liquors from mild steel pickling, as illustrated in Figure 1.Chloride media are also used increasingly in the metallurgical industry. Oxide production processes for Mg, Co, Ni, and Al have been installed. Processes using hydrochloric acid are known for the leaching of ores as well as for the re-extraction of metals from organic solvents. In both cases the recycling of HCl is of substantial importance to achieve highly economic processes and to reduce waste."

Much has been written of the changes undergone by coal in storage and the deterioration of coal through exposure to the weather. In order to obtain definite information for the benefit of the Government departments and of all who store coal in large quantitieS', a series . of tests was begun in the fall of 1909 under the supervision of tT. A. Holmes, then chief technologist of the United States Geological Survey, and was continued by the Bureau of Mines after its establishment in 1910. The tests were confined to determinations of the loss in heating value of the coals and did not include a study of other deterioration; for exaIp.ple, in coking quality or the yield of by-products in coking. The Bureau of Yards and Docks of the Navy Department cooperated in tests of New R~ver (W. Va.) coal, a variety largely used by the Navy. A preliminary report presenting a brief account of the early results of these tests has been published by the Bureau of Mines as Technical Paper 16.a The detailed report is presented in this bulletin, which gives a fu11 account of the tests and the analytical data covering a period of five years' storage. Data of somewhat similar experiments for shorter periods with gas coal from the Pittsburgh bed, with Pocahontas coal on the Isthmus of Panama, and with Sheridan, Wyo., subbituminous coal, which is used for railroad and other purposes in the West, are included. The tests of New River coal, in cooperation with the Navy Department, were undertaken to determine the advantage to be gained by storing coal under water, and particularly under salt water. Small lots were used in order to make the tests of maximum severity, and parallel experiments were made with run-of-mine and crushed coal under one-fourth inch size. All of the small lots tested under the different conditions (except those tested near Key West, Fla.) were taken as representative portions from one large original lot. The tests of Pocahontas coal, which, like the New River, is semibituminous, were undertaken chiefly to determine th.e effect of the tropical conditions in Panama. They were made on an outdoor pile of 100 tons of run-of-mine coal. Pittsburgh gas coal, a high-volatile, bituminous type used at gas and by-product coke works, was exposed for test at Ann Arbor, Mich., in cooperation with the University of Michigan. The university agreed to make tests at successive intervals of storage to determine, in its illuminating-gas experiment station, the yields of gas and byproducts from the coal. The coal, screened lump, was stored in about 4-ton lots out of doors in open bins. Subbituminous coal, which is mined in Colorado, Wyoming, and other States, and is known also as "black lignite," is commonly supposed to deteriorate rapidly in storage, especially by "slacking" or crumbling of the lumps. The tests herein described were undertaken at Sheridan, Wyo., in cooperation with the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Co., in order to determine the extent of this slacking and the accompanying loss of heat value. The tests were in open bins holding 4 to 12 tons.

A series of coal- mine catastrophes in the latter part of the first decade of this century focused public attention on the need for safety in mines and resulted in the establishment of the Federal Bureau of Mines , whose primary function was to promote safety and improve hygienic conditions of workers in the mineral and related industries . These activities are carried out by the Safety Division of the Bureau's Health and Safety Service . In general , the work performed by the Safety Division personnel may be classified as educational and investigative . Instruction is given in accident prevention for mine officials and miners ; first aid to the injured ; the use and care of oxygen breathing apparatus ; and advanced mine rescue and recovery operations . A specialized safety course is offered to the petroleum and gas industries . Division personnel also aids in or directs rescue and recovery work after mine fires and explosions ; assists at first - aid and mine rescue contests ; conducts safety exhibits and demonstrations ; and presents safety talks , often accompanied by sound safety motion pictures or latern slides , before employee and official groups , at meetings of Holmes safety chapters , at mining institutes , and at other safety or technical gatherings . Coal - mine fires and explosions are investigated , as well as quarry or metalmine explosions and fires , miscellaneous accidents , health and safety hazards , and safety conditions at mines and plants ; safety devices are investigated and developed . Field studies cover ventilation , methods of allaying suspended coal - dust particles , prevention of dust accumulations , the proper use of rock dust to prevent or limit explosions , explosives practices , and the care and use of underground equipment . The results of these studies and investigations are widely applied in the various training courses and are prepared as reports and recommendations , which are submitted to interested persons or are combined and distributed to the public as bulletins , technical papers , miners ' circulars , information circulars , and reports of investigations . These studies also afford a basis for the development of new or modification of old Safety Decisions of the Mine Safety Board of the Bureau of Mines . The following pages review the accomplishments of the division as regards safety during 1942,2/ with like information for a series of recent years and summaries to date . A striking feature of the division's work has been the safety education of more than 1-1/2 million persons who have taken first -aid and mine rescue training courses . That these efforts over a period of 3 decades have been successful is revealed by the decline in coal - mine fatality rates and a somewhat smaller decrease in metal - mining and quarrying fatality rates .

Anglo American Platinum has adopted a strategy of Best Practice Principles (BPP) for sampling, mass measurement, analysis and metal accounting for more than a decade now. When new plants are designed, the most suitable sampling equipment and sampling protocols are implemented and material flows and plant layouts are designed around sampling strategies. A few years ago, a crushing plant for a high-grade matte stream was commissioned.The design called for the high-grade material to be crushed to 95 per cent passing 2 mm and the design allowed for a single cutter primary Vezin sampler, increments taken from a gravity flowing stream at regular intervals, whilst filling a tanker for the pneumatic offload at our base metal refinery. This was a single point of sampling and analysis that would measure the wanted output from our smelting complex and the input to our refineries. In addition, the design incorporated the functionality to collect increments in an ‘interleaved’ fashion from the Vezin sampler for internal precision checks.The metal accounting strategy for Anglo Platinum is the ongoing measurement of all inputs, outputs and stock levels for all our operations for platinum group metal (PGM) and base metal (BM) content. Included are yearly stocktakes, usually done on 1 February every year, across the smelters and refineries (at least the base metal refinery). A trend was developing in the accounting period immediately following the introduction of the new crushing and sampling facility, whereby the absolute difference between the physical stock and theoretical stock (PGMs predominantly) increased for the two respective sites on an ongoing basis. The smelter (sender) showed an increase in physical stock compared to the theoretical stock and the base metal refinery (receiver) showed that their theoretical stock increased against their physical stock. Because of this anomaly, an additional stocktake was held in September for the period in question and it was confirmed through the physical stock measurement results, that the PGM accounting problem was indeed pointing towards the evaluation of the high-grade matte stream.This paper showcases parts of the process that took place to explain the poor accountabilities for the respective sites. Previous results from the sampler ratification process (of the interleaved sampling design) were analysed again, a physical inspection was carried out on the sampling system again and the sampler performance was monitored (quality control parameters) for the period.From these investigations, it was found that airflows present inside the Vezin introduced the sampling bias and a change in sampling protocol was introduced as well as physical changes to the sampling equipment were made to eliminate the airflow and thus the bias conditions significantly. The accounting period which followed, after a phased upgrading process, showed that the accounting between our smelter and base metal refinery had been restored to within statistical limits (difference between physical and theoretical stock below five per cent relative to theoretical stock).CITATION:Kruger, C J and le Roux, E, 2017. A longwall mining operation went under a tall, self-supporting and free-standing wireless communication transmission tower. In anticipation of that the ground subsidence process might affect the transmission tower, the mining company took a proactive approach to mitigate the expected subsidence influences. The efforts include prediction of surface subsidence process at the location of the tower, assessment of stability, structural integrity and functionality of the tower structures, and design and implementation of mitigation measures. The intension of this paper is to demonstrate the techniques that can be used to assess and mitigate the subsidence effects on tall self-supporting and free standing tower structures.

On the basis of the Law on Financing Hard Coal Mining dated 28 December 2007, the subsidized German hard coal mining industry will be shut down to the end of the year 2018 in a socially acceptable manner; in 2012 this decision will be reassessed. Even after the abandonment of all mining activities subsequent burdens are inevitable. In this paper, the possible long-term effects resulting from a mining industry history, which is spanning more than 200 years, and their possible consequences are pointed out, in particular in connection with the abandonment of mine water drainage measures which is economically meaningful in the long term. According to the decision situation as it presents itself today, this point in time will be far beyond 2018. In preparation for this, an action framework is to be developed in areas possibly affected.

"MANGANESE METALMethods of PreparationMethods of preparing the manganese metal that has been used in chemical and metallurgical investigations have passed through a cycle. Most of the investigations made before the turn of the century used Moissan's pyrophoric manganese. 5/ This material was made by electrolysis into a mercury cathode and distillation in vacuo. It was essentially a pure material, and investigations in which it was employed (with proper precautions against oxida¬tion) led to accurate results concerning the intrinsic behavior of metallic manganese.An early investigation of the properties of ""Manganese-by-Mercury"" was made by M. Guntz. 6/ He prepared manganese by electrolysis of a concentrated MnCl2 solution with a mercury cathode. The manganese amalgam was pressed through chamois and distilled in vacuo (2 to 3 cm. of mercury) at 200°0., slowly rising to 250°0. Guntz recognized especially the decreased reactivity of manganese with increased temperature of mercury distillation. The most careful and com¬prehensive study of manganese made by this method is that of Kuh 7/ whose work unfortunately was never published in an accessible journal.Royce and Kahlenberg 8/ studied the electrode potential of manganese made by this method."

Islais Creek Contract E, a transport/storage tunnel in San Francisco, was visited on a fieldtrip during construction by delegates to the 1995 RETC. This paper is a follow-up to that fieldtrip. The project’s two tunnels are 3.7 m and 3.2 m finished diameter, 155 m and 77 m long, respectively. The contractor used 1,000 overlapping jet grout columns to pre-treat the weak Bay Mud along the tunnel alignments, then mined them with an open faced tunnel shield, eliminating the need for compressed air tunneling. This paper documents the jet grouting program and the tunneling operation used on the project.

The mining industry has the highest average annual fatality rate among major U.S. industries. To address this, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Pittsburgh Research Laboratory (PRL), is conducting major research programs to reduce the hazard exposure of miners. One of the recently concluded programs at PRL developed the enabling technology for remote-controlled mining. An application involves the manual process of extracting and hauling coal where operators, in the tight confines of a mine, can be struck or caught by mobile machinery. The approach to remedy this problem uses a guidance system on the continuous haulage equipment so that it follows the continuous mining machine that extracts coal. This, in essence, involves sensor-based docking of the machines. Sensors functioning in the hostile mine environment of dust, methane gas, and water play the key role. Computer analysis of the mining machine&apos;s movements and empirical machine characterizations established operating requirements and spatial limitations to ensure proper loading of coal into the haulage equipment. These data served in the selection of a guidance sensor. Technologies such as scanning laser systems and ultrasonic sensors have frequently been used in other applications, but were found unacceptable. However, a near-infrared sensor employing active targets met the requirements. The sensor has a nominal 75b conical field of view and a range from 0.1 to 18.0 m. For the single-target mode, nominal range accuracy was 4.3% at a distance of 3.65 m. Correction algorithms were generated, which reduced the error to 0.6%. Airborne dust testing showed less than an additional0.8% accuracy (worst case) degradation at dust levels up to 15 mg/m3. Using four targets, the nominal range accuracy was 0.4% without correction algorithms. Analysis of dynamic testing of a continuous miner and haulage showed that accuracy was maintained and total target loss did not occur. A guidance system for the haulage system to follow the mining machine does not exist commercially. Such a system can reduce fatalities, injuries, and exposure to dust and noise.

The Eskay Creek Mine is a high-grade gold and silver underground mine in northwestern British Columbia. The mine started operations in late1994. For the first three years, ore was crushed to -50 mm(-2 in.), blended to satisfy smelter terms and shipped to smelters in Japan and Canada. Preliminary evaluations indicated that a complex metallurgical facility, requiring a large capital investment, would be required to recover the precious and other economic metals. So markets for raw ore were identified and underground mining and ore transportation operations began at a production rate of 300 t/d (330stpd).

This information circular describes open-pit mining methods and practices of the Bagdad Copper Corp., Yavapai County, Ariz. It is one of a series being prepared by the Federal Bureau of Mines on mining methods, practices, and costs in various mining districts of the United States. A brief history of the Eureka district and of early developments at the [gdad] mine is given, and the are deposit is described with particular emphasis on those characteristics (physical, economic, or engineering) that affected the choice of mining methods. Prospecting, exploration, and sampling and estimating the tonnage and grade are outlined. Development of the open-pit mine is shown. Mining methods, including breaking ground, primary drilling and blasting, secondary drilling and blasting, loading, transportation, engineering, and operating control, are described. A brief summary of mining equipment is given. Percentage of extraction, production rate, mine drainage and water supply, wage, contract, and bonus systems, safety and fire prevention, and the processing plant also are described. The last section gives a breakdown of such costs as are available for publication.

In the coal preparation plant at U.S. Steel Corp.&apos;s Concord mine in Alabama, the product moisture was reduced from about 20% to 9% through the development of a workable flowsheet for dying the clean coal. Some of the high points of the conversion of the Concord washer from vibrating screen dewatering to centrifuge drying are presented in this article. The coal preparation plant at the United States Steel Corp.&apos;s Concord mine near Bessemer, Ala., began operations in June, 1950. The basic cleaning circuit consisted of a Chance cone for cleaning the 2-in. x 3/8-in. fraction and concentrating tables for cleaning the -3/8-in. coal fraction. Dewatering of the final product was accomplished with 35-mesh vibrating screens. However, because Concord coal is very friable with 85% passing 3 mesh and 25% passing 28 mesh (Fig. I), a considerable quantity of fines passed through the dewatering screens. To recover these fines, the dewatering screen effluent was sent to two 70-ft-diam hyd rose para tors from which the underflow returned to the dewatering screens and the overflow went to a 175-ft-diam thickener for water clarification, as illustrated in Fig. 2. As might be expected, there was considerable recirculation of the -35-mesh coal in this system. This degraded the coal and led to higher moistures. It also resulted in a fines bleed-off of plant water and thickener underflow to a fine-coal settling pond. In 1961, vacuum filters were installed to supplement the screens and to recover the fine coal lost in the bleed-off. The above system resulted in a product moisture of about 20%. Further reduction to approximately 11% was accomplished by drainage from railroad cars during transit to the coke plant. Control of the moisture at unloading was poor because of variations in operating levels and railroad car availability, but since the Concord coal constituted a relatively small percentage of the over-all coal mix at the coke plant, its high moisture and fluctuations did not seriously hamper coking operations. Early in 1964, however, the proportion of Concord coal was increased with a resulting increase in the moisture of the total coal mix, and this caused difficulties in the coke plant. The increased participation of Concord coal also brought about a shortage of railroad cars which raised the moisture content to a point where the coal became almost impossible to handle. In an effort to alleviate this problem, U.S. Steel initiated a research program to develop a flowsheet for reducing the moisture to approximately 10% and to determine whether the resulting product would be satisfactory for the coke plant. Under this program, an experimental flowsheet for evaluating both a vibratory centrifuge system and a solid bowl centrifuge system was drawn up as shown in Fig. 3. A horizontal vibratory centrifuge was installed to reduce the moisture in the dewatered coarse coal, and a four-cell, flotation machine was installed to clean the -65-mesh portion of the 3/8-in. x 0 table raw coal feed. Several shortcomings in the above circuits were apparent. For one thing, large quantities of repulping water were required. Furthermore, since about half of the flotation feed was of a size consist that could have been cleaned on the tables, these circuits would result in an unnecessary increase in reagent costs and facilities. This paper describes the operations of the St. Joe Mining & Milling Co. in Boulder County, Colo., as of June 1936. Later a brief visit was made to the mine in September 1936; information obtained at that time has also been recorded. The company operates a gold mine, the Grand Republic, in the Sugar Loaf mining district; a 100-ton flotation mill in Lefthand Canyon near Gold Hill; and a custom sampling punt, the Boulder Ore Sampling Works, at Boulder, Colo.

Dynatec Mining Limited contracted to sink a lS00 metre (4960 ft.) concrete lined shaft for Falconbridge Nickel Mines in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The shaft is 6.3 metres (20.S ft.) in diameter inside the concrete lining and is equipped with steel furnishings. Dynatec used the owner supplied 4.6 metre (l5 ft.) diameter double-drum hoist to sink the shaft with 12.S tonne buckets for muck removal and 4 cubic metre concrete buckets for concrete placement. One of the unique features of the shaft sinking operation is the use of a four-boom electric hydraulic drill jumbo permanently mounted in the shaft sinking stage. This paper will describe the performance obtained with the electric hydraulic drilling equipment and the high capacity muck removal and concreting equipment.
