Completion of a railroad to the high Tibetan Plateau in Central China has now made it economical to exploit its mineral reserves. Lead and zinc mines are now being established. A potash plant to produce 40,000 tons per year KC1 is now in operation. Plans to produce 200,000 tons per year by 1987 are being implemented. Pilot drilling for oil and natural gas have proved up reserves. Slaughter houses are being constructed to ship yak, mutton and beef from the endless grasslands on the plateau. Research Centers in Xining and Golmud have been completed for the sole purpose of increasing technology and exploitation of the Tsaidam Basin and surrounding area.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) mineral carbonation is a carbon capture and storage (CCS) technique that can sequester CO2 permanently in the form of durable carbonate minerals. Extendable permanent storage capacity — onshore and offshore storage reservoirs — and the exothermic nature of the mineralization process make this technique attractive [1]. In the present study, maximum carbonation efficiency for aqueous mineral carbonation was achieved through two steps: optimization of calcium leaching from cement kiln dust followed by the reaction of pure CO2 with the calcium hydroxide precipitates formed by hydroxylation using sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Optimization of calcium leaching is highly important, as it is a rate-limiting reaction step in mineral carbonation and also influences and enhances the carbonation efficiency. To maximize the calcium leaching as well as carbonation efficiency, response surface methodology — with either Box-Behnken design or central composite design — was applied. It is the most well-known statistical, fully randomized and bias-free method for determining optimized conditions using quadratic regression models.

NTRODUCTION Surface subsidence monitoring is the most effective means for investigating the nature of, and developing the techniques for pre¬dicting the surface movement and deformation process. However, because of imperfection in survey equipment and field practices, the surface movement data collected from field survey are not error-free. Also due to lack of proper numerical techniques for computing surface deformation from the measured surface move¬ment data, a relatively large portion of the subsidence data col¬lected could not provide information other than surface movement. In a paper by Luo and Peng (1992), the sources and magnitude of errors in the measured surface movements using an electronic total station in subsidence survey are discussed. If the errors in the measured surface movement components are left untreated before calculation for deformation indices (i.e., slope, strain and curva¬ture), the errors will be carried over to the deformation indices and enlarged if improper numerical procedures are used in the calcu¬lation. It should be noticed that in protecting structures affected by ground subsidence, accurate surface deformation indices are much more important than surface movement. In order to improve the accuracy of the collected surface movement data and the calcu¬lated deformation indices, a number of numerical procedures are also proposed in the same paper. The proposed techniques include: a data smoothing technique for data pre-processing; and a number of numerical methods and/or procedures for calculating surface deformation indices from the measured surface movement data. DATA SMOOTHING Because of various factors, the measured surface movement data always contain errors, small or large. In order to better utilize the collected data, a data smoothing method is proposed to correct the errors in the measured movement data. The method uses the same concept as the influence function method (e.g., Knothe, 1957) on which many existing subsidence prediction methods are based. The data smoothing method makes necessary corrections on the measured movement for the point of interest according to not only the measured movement at this point but also those at the surrounding points. The contribution of a surrounding point in making the correction for the point of interest is inversely propor¬tional, in exponential form, to the distance between them. Widely used as collectors for nonsulfides, amines also show some frothing properties. Evaluating frother functions of amines and their combination with conventional frothers addresses whether one reagent delivering both collector and frother functions compromises the efficacy of either. From the findings, whether blending with frother confers any benefit requires knowledge of the residual amine concentration. If it is below about 10 ppm, blending eliminated coalescence, but there appears to be no benefit if the concentration is above 15 ppm.

"Rare earth elements (REEs) are a kind of new materials which have excellent optical, electrical and magnetic properties, and they play an important role in the development of high technology and green energy industries. With abundant reserves and a wide range of REE type, rare earth industry has a rapid development in China in recent years. However, environmental issues associated with REE exploitation have severely restricted the sustainable development of rare earth industry in China. At present, literatures on the externalities of REE exploitation are very limited, especially in China. This paper builds an evaluation model based on life cycle evaluation to estimate the external costs of REE exploitation at Bayan Obo. The results show that the external costs for producing one metric tonne of rare earth oxides (REO) in Bayan Obo was CNY 34739 in 2013, the external costs of waste gas, waste water, radioactive substance, REE resource depletion, and land occupation are CNY 14945, 12515, 1400, 3199, and 2680, respectively. Waste gas and water constitute about 79% of the total external costs. The internalization of the external costs would reduce the financial profit of Northern Rare Earth (Group) by 18%. This study has taken into account only those externalities whose market values can be estimated, and therefore the external costs of REE exploitation in Bayan Obo is likely to be underestimated. The results fill the gap in literature and provide further understanding on the external cost of REE exploitation.Introduction / Background Along with increasing concern about environmental pollution problems caused by the usage of fossil fuel and the shortage of fossil energy, a transition has occurred where development has moved toward green and renewable energy sources with less pollutant emissions (Stegen 2015). Rare earth elements (REE) are a group of important raw materials for these trends since they have unique magnetic, electronic and optical properties, and thus make them widely used in making high-performance magnets and energy saving lamps (U.S. DOE 2010). In addition, REE are crucial for manufacturing of widespread high-tech applications in medical, defense and electronic industries. Many countries have made medium-term and long-term plans for the development of their REE industries, and the annual growth rate of global REE demand is expected to increase by 6% by 2020, and reach about 170,000 metric tons of rare earth oxides (REO) by 2020 (Rollat et al 2016)."

Introduction Potassium, together with nitrogen and phosphorous, is an essential nutrient required for growth. Since all living things need potash, the major demand for potash - about 95% of the total - is as a fertilizer. Agricultural productivity has increased dramatically in recent times. This increase in crop yields requires substantial amounts of added nutrients to keep the soil fertile. It follows then that potash will always be in demand. There is no substitute. Other fertilizers that contain phosphorous (P) and nitrogen (N) are complementary and not competing products. Fireplace ashes (pot-ashes) have a relatively high potassium content. Their value as a fertilizer had been recognized for centuries. But today's potash industry did not begin until deposits of potassium-rich ore were discovered and exploited in Europe during the 19th century. Canadian potash development Potash in Saskatchewan was first recognized in 1943. It was discovered as a byproduct of an oil exploration program. But it was several years later before the existence of a major commercial deposit was acknowledged, and not until 1951 that the first attempt at development occurred. That attempt was unsuccessful. The shaft flooded and was abandoned. It did, however, demonstrate the need for new technology to penetrate the waterlogged Blairmore layer. This was eventually developed and the first mines were brought into production in the early 1960s. Once the technology was available, and the extent and quality of the potash beds became known, a number of companies proceeded to develop mines. By 1970, seven mines were in operation and three more were nearing completion. Combined, total capacity then was 7.6 Mt/a (8.4 mil¬lion stpy) K20. At that time, world potash consumption was about 15 Mt/a (16.5 million stpy). This increase in supply from Canada produced a large potential surplus that shattered the prevailing balance between supply and demand. Although world demand increased steadily throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, it was several years before world supply and demand were again in balance. Saskatchewan capacity has been expanded a number of times. It now stands at 10.7 Mt/a (11.7 million stpy) K20. Actual production has not approached this figure, however. Two new mines in New Brunswick have recently been built with a combined annual capacity of 1.2 Mt (1.3 million st) K20. Total Canadian capacity of about 12 Mt/a (13 million stpy) now amounts to 30% of world capacity. Central offshore marketing organization Canadian Potash Exports Ltd. (Canpotex) was created in 1970 as the offshore marketing organization for Canadian producers. Canpotex is owned by Saskatchewan producers and is their exclusive marketing organization for offshore business. Each company handles its own sales in Canada and the US, but all sales to other markets are handled through and by Canpotex. The Saskatchewan industry has an ore body of a size and consistency unmatched anywhere in the world. Large efficient mines have production costs that compare favorably with other producing countries. On the minus side, Saskatchewan is remote from most major markets. It therefore needs the ef¬ficiencies that stem from one organization that coordinates all offshore shipments and minimizes distribution costs. Agriculture guides potash market In the period following World War II, potash was a classic growth industry. World demand increased each year from 1945 to early 1970s. Since then, demand has been more erratic. Some years show substantial increases, but are followed by significant declines. For about the last decade, the pattern has been unclear and future demand has become correspondingly difficult to predict. North America and Europe together account for about 40% of the world potash consumption. In both areas, farming is characterized by surplus production, declining crop prices, and expensive government support programs. Under those circumstances, farmers respond by minimizing input costs. Fertilizer is one of the items they reduce. Potash is retained in the soil. It is possible to reduce potash application with no immediate deterioration in crop yield. Stability analyses were performed on the La Libertad, Nicaragua existing tailings embankment in order to determine the conditions for the minimum buttressing required for stability of the dam as a short term measure. Two critical sections, shown in Figure 1, were investigated under static, drained and undrained conditions for existing and modified geometries. The existing geometries reflect the "as built" topography of the dam, and the modified geometries reflect the implementation of a toe berm to buttress the slope. For these geometries drained and undrained conditions as well as different elevations of the toe berm were evaluated against a factor of safety.

To fully utilize a ventilation simulator as a planning and production tool, the network database must keep pace with mining progress. By using AutoCAD's attribute-definition function, the branch data and node coordinates can be stored as part of the branch-diagram file, and updated with the drawing. Attributes are drawing entities that contain text which can be extracted in a standard spreadsheet format or as an ASCII text file. The data can be subsequently loaded into a ventilation simulator with plotting capabilities, such as VNETPC. This paper presents the methodology for using AutoCAD's attribute feature in a ventilation simulation.

D-LM at Mobile The qualified success of iron ore pelletizing processes has influenced considerations for production of highly beneficiated fur¬nace charges. Such beneficiation would necessarily involve some forms of chemical and perhaps thermal conversion for production of prereduced pellets, preheated pellets, precalcined pellets, and perhaps pellets which contain all of the above features as preheated, prereduced, precalcined products. This type of furnace burden will be adapted within a new ironmaking process to be activated commer¬cially during the latter part of 196$ in Mobile, Alabama. This process will integrate a new pelletizing system with an electric smelting furnace and the pellets will be comprised of a composite charge blended from metallurgical proportions of iron ore, coal, and limestone. Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a common water pollution problem on active and abandoned coal mine sites in the eastern United States. AMD forms when surface mining brings unweathered pyrite-containing rocks to the surface or when deep mining allows oxygen to contact buried pyritic strata. In the absence of neutralizing compounds, the drainage that results can be extremely acidic and contaminated with dissolved iron, manganese, and sulfate. Drainages with pH < 3.0 and concentrations of sulfate greater than 1,000 mg/L, iron greater than 50 mg/L, and manganese greater than 10 mg/L are common. Where water flows through alkaline materials (such as limestone) before surfacing, the drainage is less acidic and occasionally circumneutral, but it can still contain high concentrations of sulfate and metals. Current water quality standards in the United States require that mine discharges have a pH between 6 and 9, total iron concentration less than 3.0 mg/L, and manganese less than 2.0 mg/L. At thousands of active and inactive mine sites, drainage does not meet these standards and is being treated before discharge by the mining company. At thousands of other sites, which were abandoned prior to the enactment of water pollution laws or were operated by companies that have gone bankrupt, untreated AMD is polluting receiving water systems. The standard mine drainage treatment system involves the addition of a1 kal ine chemicals to the water, which raises the pH and cause metals to precipitate in a settling pond. These systems are expensive, often costing tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for chemicals, operation, maintenance, and disposal of the metal- laden sludge. Because the drainage on many sites will likely be contaminated for decades, there is financial incentive to find alternative water treatment systems. In the last five years, many mining companies and engineering firms have experimented with the construction of wetland treatment systems. Very few of the several hundred wetland systems that have been built are performing well enough to justify total abandonment of chemical treatment. Nonetheless, systems continue to be built because the mining companies have found that wetlands can reduce their AMD treatment costs. It is also their hope that further research and development will eventually result in systems that will completely rep1 ace chemical treatment and offer long term performance at minimal cost. The Bureau of Mines has been actively involved, from a research perspective, with this approach to AMD treatment since its inception. In this paper, the status of constructed wetland technology is discussed with respect to the construction and performance of systems, chemical and biological processes that affect AMD chemistry within constructed wetlands, and the future of this technology as perceived by the Bureau of Mines. ORIGINAL OBSERVATIONS The constructed wetland concept has its roots in observations of natural Sphaqnum peat wetlands that received acid mine drainage and, instead of being adversely affected, appeared to cause an amelioration of the polluted water (Huntsman et al. 1978; Wieder and Lang 1982). These observations instigated the idea that wet1 and systems might be used for the intentional treatment of mine drainage. Because the discharge of AMD into a natural wetland is prohibited in the U.S. by several laws, it has been necessary to construct wetlands which act solely as water treatment systems. Initially, most wetland research and construction efforts mimicked the original observations by utilizing Sphaqnum moss and peat. Despite promising laboratory results (Kleinmann et al. 1983; Tarleton et al. 1984; Burris et al. 1984; Gerber et al. 1985), virtually all field tests of Sphasnum-dominated constructed wetlands failed to provide sufficient water treatment for more than several months. "A three dimensional nonlinear finite element model was constructed to simulate and analyze the behavior of large diameter segmentally lined shafts when subjected to seismic waves. To reduce computation time, a less complex shell model was also constructed. Transient excitation was applied to the supported nodes of both models, at the base of the shaft, with a time-function representing the 1994 Northridge earthquake. The models are developed at the end of an original phased construction-stage analysis of the shaft. Displacements, forces and moments are monitored and compared during the analyses steps. During the initial 15 seconds of the earthquake, the top and bottom of the shaft show similar displacements. The maximum horizontal displacement within the shaft is approximately 3.5 inches in the solid model and the shell model results conform to this by a factor of 50%. Keywords: Segmentally Lined Shaft, Soil Structure Interaction, Seismic Analysis, Finite Element Modeling, Ground Modification INTRODUCTION TO SEGMENTALLY LINED SHAFTS Large diameter segmentally lined shafts (SLS) are underground systems, constructed sequentially using precast concrete segments to form a ring which provides both temporary earth support during excavation and permanent structural support. The segments are connected via alignment pins, bolts, packer material and other structural components that ensure the continuity of the SLS. In this analysis, the construction process uses a top-down sequence wherein each soil layer is excavated, damp-proofing is installed and concrete segments are assembled to form each ring. This process is repeated until design depths are achieved completing the shaft. It is known that cylindrical structures sustain lateral (earth) pressure mainly through the mechanism of hoop-stress. As Timoshenko’s ring theory goes, a cylinder shell structure is prone to buckling under external pressure [1]. In typical designs of small diameter shafts and tunnel linings with small diameter to wall thickness ratios, nonlinear buckling analysis (i.e., nonlinear geometric analysis) is not considered, since the buckling capacities for those structures are much higher than typical pressures encountered at their design depths. However, in shafts with large diameter to wall thickness ratios, buckling could become a critical issue. In any given mode, as buckling occurs in a ring, some sections of the structure move inward while alternating sections protrude. Although the presence of the surrounding soil could mitigate the buckling by resisting the movement (Soil structure interaction) seismic loads can cause ground movements and lateral pressures, exceeding the capacity of the structure. It is therefore essential to design the load bearing capacities of the shaft to minimize the possibility of any catastrophic failure due to earthquakes. This study explores the structural response of the SLS when subjected to seismic loads."

The semiautogenous grinding (SAG) mill is one of the most important pieces of equipment in the comminution of materials. Its objective is to reduce the size of the ore until the ore can be released and continue on its transformation process. Although it is a simple process that involves impact, abrasion and attrition, its energy consumption is extremely high and inefficient, with no more of 17 percent of the energy supplied going toward size reduction. This gives rise to an important challenge because any improvement generates great economic benefits.

INTRODUCTION Tunneling machines were introduced into civil con¬struction in the 1800s, but their practical applications were not realized fully until the 1950s. As of 1977, tunneling machines were being used on most tunneling projects of substantial size. As in civil construction, the mining applications of tunneling machines have included long drives such as tunneling for long ore-body develop¬ment drifts, long haulage tunnels, longwall access drifts, and long crosscut developments. Tunneling machines ranging from 1.75-m (5.7-ft) to more than I1.0-m (36-ft) diam are available from several manufacturers; machines for mining applications generally have ranged between 1.75 and 6.0-m (5.7¬and 20.0-ft) diam. Tunneling machines usually operate at or near horizontal grades and are supported by a rail-haulage backup system. However, declines and inclines have been made using alternative backup equip¬ment. Either circular or shaped tunnels may be bored, depending upon the particular equipment used. Using tunneling machines to bore openings through rock offers several advantages over the use of the drilling and blasting technique. These advantages include a rapid advance, continuous operation, uniformity of the opening size, smooth walls, and safe working conditions. Compared to drilling and blasting, boring reduces the disturbance of adjacent rock, thereby reducing the ground-support requirements and the exposure to water inflows. The smooth walls provide natural arching and present minimum resistance to the flow of air. A tunneling machine should be considered a spe¬cialized mining tool that is well-suited to certain mining applications. Properly applied and sustained, a tunnel¬ing machine contributes to realizing substantial econo¬mies in the development of underground mines. All costs herein are expressed in 1977 US dollars, unless otherwise noted. The mention of trade names and manufacturers is not intended to imply an endorse¬ment of any specific equipment. TYPES OF TUNNELING MACHINES As listed in Table 1, five principal types of tunneling machines were being manufactured in 1977. Each type of machine offers a special solution to a specific mining problem. Although each of these types of machines is described herein, most of this chapter is devoted to the full-face rotary rock-tunneling machine that has demon¬strated the greatest production in both civil construction and mining applications. Full-Face Rotary Rock-Tunneling Machines As shown in Fig. 1, a full-face rotary rock-tunneling machine consists of a rotating head that is fitted with rock-cutting tools and is forced into the tunnel face. This head is supported by a bearing on a structural support member that, in turn, is held in place by a hydraulically positioned wall-gripping mechanism. Both torque and thrust are reacted from the cutterhead, through the structural support and gripper mechanism, and to the tunnel wall. The rock cuttings fall to the invert at the tunnel face, and they are removed by means of cutterhead buckets or scoops that transfer the cuttings to a conveyor belt. After advancing the cutter¬head through a preset boring stroke, the tunneling machine is advanced by hydraulically pulling the gripper mechanism in from the tunnel walls, stroking forward, and resetting the gripper to the new forward position on the wall; the machine then is set for the next advance stroke. Full-face machines cut only circular openings. Ma¬chines with diameters as small as 1.8 m (6 ft) and as large as 6.1 m (20 ft) have been used in mining applica¬tions, excavating rock with unconfined compressive strengths in excess of 276 000 kPa (40,000 psi). Although special machines have been designed to turn on a radius of 30 m (100 ft) in both horizontal and vertical directions, the conveyors and backup sup¬port equipment generally limit tunneling machines to turns with a radius of more than 60 m (200 ft). The full-face rotary rock-tunneling machines have provided the fastest and most reliable production of any mining method or machine. These machines can be equipped to place any of a variety of ground-support systems, and they can be provided as "open" machines, as shown in Fig. 1, or as "shielded" machines, as shown in Fig. 2. The open machines have the advantage of allowing the ground to be supported as near to the tunnel face as possible. The shielded machines have been designed principally to allow placing precast con¬crete segments. The shielded machines completely pro¬tect the equipment and personnel at the heading, but they are economically limited to permanent long-life haulageways where full lining is required. Partial-Face Rotary Rock-Tunneling Machines As shown in Fig. 3, the partial-face rotary tunneling machine is equipped with a cutterhead that rotates slowly at about 0.21 rad/s (2.0 rpm). The single-disk cutterhead produces the tunnel section shown in Fig. 4 by means of an oscillating motion. These machines work on the undercutting principle, and they are avail¬able in spring-line dimensional increments of 0.1 m (0.32 ft) from 1.5 to 2.1 m (5.0 to 7.0 ft); the vertical dimensions are 2.4 to 3.2 m (8.0 to 10.5 ft), respec¬tively. Depending upon the tunnel width, the cutterhead disk may be fitted with from 8 to 16 drag-bit cutters. Penetration is achieved by means of hydraulic rams that force the tungsten-carbide bits into the rock mass. The operation is cyclic, with cutting occurring only on the upstroke. On the downstroke, the rotating cutter¬head draws the fallen muck from the invert into the panzer-type conveyor for rearward transfer. This feature allows time to either reposition ore cars or to exit the tunnel with muck trains while the machine is cutting, as shown in Fig. 5. In order to investigate production decline in Tarkwa Goldfields Ltd., located in a tropical rain forest, amongst other areas, a health survey was conducted with the aim to see 1. The health status of the workers. 2. Which parameters carry the most information about the health situation and which of them can be applied easily during screening programmes. 3. What steps could be taken to improve the situation. In all 249 workers were investigated. A non-invasive method involving taking of body weight and arterial blood pressure was used. All subjects were required to answer a questionaire. Emphasis was placed on the history of malaria and diarrhoea within the last six months. Both management and workers co-operated fully. Another set of 110 workers from a neighbouring tyre factory were also investigated for control. Among the underground workers, the percentage body weight loss during a shift increased with decreasing body weight. Dehydration levels could be as much as 4 to 5% of body weight. This could be attributed to the fact that workers took insufficient or no water during the shift. The health status of the mine workers was generally poor and in our opinion malnutrition combined with malaria severely threatens the health and well-being of the workers. Hypertension is also a problem. An improvement in production is intimately linked with the well-being of the workers.

Today, I would like to talk about ways to maximize the efficiency of surface coal operations. I doubt I will present any startling new ideas, but my comments may, hopefully, stimulate some conversation today and later back at your own operations. Strip mining is a very old technique used by ancient societies. Only with the coming of the machine age in the early twentieth century did we attempt to increase the magnitude of our operations. The industry, as we know it today, really only got started in the early 1900s with the advent of steam shovels. In the first portion of this presentation, I will attempt to show that we have, in many cases, not changed the basics of strip mining, only the scale. "The major challenges of the current mining are the energetic optimization, the lowest water consumption and minimizing environmental impact. One technique that eliminates much of the waste avoiding milling sterile, operating without water and to decrease the generation of waste at the end of the process, must be considered a major innovation. One of the most important developments in these past 10 years in the mining industry was expanding the use of high-tech sensors aimed at pre-concentration of ore. Among the mining areas where this type of technology is booming is the industrial minerals. The most common sensors are color sensors with Charge – Coupled Devices (CCD cameras) allowing through the RGB colorimetric system, the separation of minerals with different hues, and in many cases, a difference in brightness. More recently, the development of the use of dual energy X-ray transmission (DE-XRT) Dual Zone allowed the separation by atomic density of the mineral constituents of the rock. This paper presents a review of these two techniques (CCD and DE – XRT) as well some results showing the use of these two techniques for Earth Rare and Limestone. INTRODUCTION The mining industry is going through one of its biggest technological changes since the industrial revolution by the implementation of new technologies, according to Australian Mining Magazine (2015), whose theme emphasized one of the 10 greatest challenges that mining will face in the coming years. Optimization of the energy matrix in mining is focused on reducing water consumption and minimizing environmental impacts. The implementation of sensor technologies (Sensor-Based Sorting - SBS) allows elimination of mill tailings and permits the mill to operate with reduced use of water or totally eliminate this consumption (Young et al, 2016). According to Jönsson (2014) mining has undergone striking changes with the expansion of sensors of high technologies applied in the pre-concentration of mining ores. These techniques have contributed over the past 10 years in the recapture of mining areas with emphasis on the environment and/or operational optimizations. In line with the requirements of technological innovation, the mining industry is forced to make improvements in gravimetric processes ensuring better levels of Run of Mine ore feed in beneficiation plants. The implementation of automatic sorting, assisted by dual energy x-ray transmission (DE-XRT) sensor technology, or charged coupled device (CCD) image capture camera technology in the feed plant, allows for the selective sorting of individual particles into pre-concentrations (Veras et al, 2016)."

INTRODUCTION Pyrite responds to the flotation reagents normally used in sulfide flotation systems. For example, it is well known that xanthates are good collectors for pyrite, and cyanide, sulfide and hydroxides are depressants. The particular response of pyrite to these and other reagents is used to advantage in several areas. By careful control of depressant and collector additions, pyrite can be separated from other sulfides by flotation. This is of obvious importance in base metal sulfide flotation where pyrite depression is often required to produce a marketable grade concentrate. Flotation of pyrite has long been employed in gold ore processing, and it appears that pyrite flotation from coal may become important in the future (1). It is probably a direct consequence of this relative ease of separation, plus the low economic value of pyrite, that detailed investigations on the chemistry of its flotation and depression are relatively limited. Gaudin (2,3,4) and others, in the mid-1950&apos;s published data on the flotation of pyrite, but detailed or consistent mechanisms were lacking. In 1955, Sutherland and Wark&apos;s book (5) was published, in which a large amount of empirical information, especially earlier work of Wark and Cox, was presented. More recently, in 1968, significant contributions have been made by Fuerstenau et al. (6,7) and Majima and Takeda (El. These papers introduced electrochemical explanations of the effects observed with xanthate and cyanide ions.
