Further, none is a problem that can be relegated to long-term study by public or private research agencies. It is generally accepted that sulfur exists in coal in three forms: (1) pyritic, (2) organic, and (3) sulfate sulfur. Sulfate sulfur usually makes up less than 1% of the total sulfur content. Pyritic and organic sulfur, make up almost all of the total sulfur and occur in varying amounts in different coals and can vary greatly in coal of the same seam Pyritic sulfurs of 20% to 80% of the total sulfur have been reported Other authors have shown that it is not possible to remove the organic sulfur without chemically altering the coal. Chapman and Jones (1) state: "Organic sulfur, unlike pyritic sulfur does not exist as discrete particles, but is intimately associated with the coal structure, and as such it is not possible to remove it or reduce its concentration by physical means." Any success in removing sulfur has come about by removing pyritic sulfur by physical means; therefore, removal of sulfur in the pyritic form is the subject of this investigation. The extent to which any impurities can be removed from a particular coal can be determined by a washability study. Outside of crushing coal, to finer sizes or chemically altering the coal, there are no known methods of changing this inherent washability characteristic. The efficiency of various methods used to remove impurities can be determined by comparison of results produced at a yield to the results as shown by a washability study. In recent years heavy media processes have proven their ability to wash plus 28 mesh coal and nearly produce results shown to be theoretically possible by the washability study. Therefore, it is the objective of this paper to show various methods of treating the finer fractions of the coal, in the hope of developing a process, which can effectively produce in the fine fractions the efficiency of heavy media devices in the coarse.

This paper presents the results of test work performed with a Pacific Electric Motors (PEM) high intensity magnetic separator (20 kilogauss) , a unit capable of separating weakly, as well as strongly, magnetic minerals in the particle size range of sands to clays. Tests were performed on some 40 industrial minerals. With some minerals excellent separations were attained and with others intermediate and poor separations were accomplished. This study is a preliminary survey and many of the intermediate and poor results can be improved as separation problems are worked out with additional test work. It is demonstrated that with a number of industrial minerals high intensity magnetic separation is a viable beneficiation technique that is economic ally feasible.

"The South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel (SHCST) project is a significant component of the Hartford Metropolitan District’s (MDC) long-term control plan (LTCP), which is overseen by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP). This project will address a portion of the MDC’s Clean Water Project (CWP), which will reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs), eliminate sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), and reduce nitrogen released into the Connecticut River. The purpose of the SHCST project is to eliminate West Hartford and Newington SSOs, eliminate Franklin area CSOs discharging to Wethersfield Cove and minimize CSO discharges to the South Branch Park River. The locations of each overflow are shown in Fig. 1. In 2010, the district prepared a preliminary design report (PDR) for the SHCST project, which included relief of the Folly Brook trunk sewer and proposed to keep the tunnel boring machine (TBM) retrieval shaft within the city limits of Hartford. Figure 1 shows the 2010 PDR recommended tunnel route. Subsequent to the PDR, the objectives of the SHCST have slightly shifted. In accordance with ongoing revisions to the LTCP, relief of the Folly Brook Trunk Sewer is no longer necessary. Additionally, the MDC has decided to perform less sewer separation in the Franklin Avenue drainage area. To replace the sewer separation, new relief points are proposed within the Franklin area and will be diverted to the SHCST. Figure 1 also shows the current recommended tunnel route (Alignment F). During 2012, the MDC conducted an evaluation of the potential of connecting the proposed North Tunnel (originally proposed as an independent tunnel with its own pump station) into the South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel. This evaluation concluded that the two proposed tunnels could reasonably be connected together and operated as a single tunnel system utilizing the tunnel pump station at the eastern terminus of the South Hartford Tunnel (Fig. 2). It also was concluded that this alternative was less costly than two independent tunnel systems."

This is the story of the Carlton Mill. But first-a little geography. For those who do not know where the Carlton Mill is, or, perhaps, have only a vague idea, its location is indicated in Figure 1. The plant is situated on the road between the two old mining towns of Cripple Creek and Victor, 10 the west of Colorado Springs. From Denver, it's about 110 miles by road. The story of the Carlton Mill began with the discovery of gold at Cripple Creek in 1890. This discovery set off a major boom such that, by the turn of the century, there were 450 separate operating mines in the district. Gold production boomed early and declined rather rapidly as indicated by the graph in Figure 2. Significant factors affecting production are shown on the graph-the raising of the gold price in 1934 from $20.67 to $35.00 per ounce and the government executive order L-208 in 1942 requiring the closure of all gold mines.

In this study, various rib bolting scenarios were investigated to better understand the effectiveness of the support systems. A coal mass constitutive model is implemented to a distinct element method (DEM) code, and rib factor-of-safety (RibFOS) analyses were performed by applying strength reduction for the coal matrix and explicitly modeled face cleats. Ribs with various overburden depths and mining heights composed of solid banded bright coal were considered. Different scenarios such as rib bolt length and number of bolts were studied to quantify the effect of primary rib support density on rib stability. As a result of the unsupported coal rib analyses, a decaying exponential relationship is proposed between the mining height-overburden depth and the RibFOS. The developed coal rib models clearly show the coal-rib bolt interaction and illustrate how the addition of rib bolts restricts the movement of the coal rib. The results reveal that the strength-reduction method in DEM code with the coal-mass model can aid in the development of practical primary sup- port charts, which can help in the rib support design process.

"Over recent years, specifically following the MINER Act of 2006, an increasing number of manufacturers of underground mine seals in the United States have begun using a form of pumpable cement or shotcrete to create barriers separating the working and abandoned sections of underground coal mines. This seal material, while generally considered to be homogenous and solid, contains a network of microcracks, voids, and delaminations. Generally, it has been assumed that methane (CF4) leakage around these seals is a result of movement around the boundary interface between the seal and surrounding strata. Using a perfluorinated tracer compound, perfluoromethyl-cyclohexane (PMCH), the movement of gases can be monitored through seal material to observe how gases move though the material, both intact and with faulting in the material. This paper documents two large experiments where the movement of PMCH was monitored in the field, along with modeling confirmation using 3D visualization software. INTRODUCTION According to a report in 2007, there were over 14,000 active mine seals in underground U.S. coal mines alone (Zipf, Sapko, & Brune, 2007). These seals are used for both ventilation and safety purposes, to direct the flow of air away from the abandoned area of the mine and to help eliminate the propagation of explosions that can occur on the outby side of the mine seal. The atmosphere on the outby side of these seals typical consists of low levels of methane that have the potential of producing leakage along the face of the seal on the inby side. Methane leakage around mine seals has historically been attributed to the permeability between the seal and mine interface (McPherson, 1993). According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) between 2003 and 2012 an average of 17 deaths occurred annually in underground bituminous coals mines. The only time during the ten-year period where the fatalities were higher than the average was in 2006 and 2010, years which had three major explosions occurring in underground coal mines in West Virginia and Kentucky. Two of the explosions were propagated through the mine by seal failure or methane leakage around newly poured seals (Light, et al., 2007) (Gates, et al., 2006). These recent events, and new regulations regarding seal strength (MINER Act), have created a need to monitor the condition of underground mine seals. BACKGROUND Measuring the permeability of solid materials, such as concrete or seal materials, can be a valuable tool in the field of non-destructible testing (NDT). By using an inert gas, such as nitrogen, injecting the gas into a solid structure, and measuring the resultant flow rate and pressure differential, this can provide valuable information about the structure. Studies have shown permeability can be affected by the stresses applied to the structure, as well as temperature and moisture (Choinska, Khelidj, Chatzigeorgious, & Pijaudier-Cabot, 2007) (Abbas, Carcasses, & Olliver, 1999)."

The most promising near-term alternative to fuel cell driven vehicles is probably Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV or EV) technology. HEV technology combines the best characteristics of fuel-driven engines, electric motor drives, and energy storage components. It is designed with a combustion engine that functions as the primary power source, and an electric power storage system that functions as the secondary power source. The presence of the secondary power source allows designers to size the combustion engine for cruising power requirements. A new energy source for HEV or EV market will become lithium ion batteries (LIBs) in the near future. LIBs for HEV or EV has large scale about more 10,000 times than small size one for IT devices in order to achieve high electric density/capacity and high efficiency, etc. In those reasons, physical treatment of the batteries is more difficult for stable dismantling in comparison with the smaller one. Hybrid vehicle sales will grow by nearly 400 percent during the next seven years, according to a new report from analyst firm ABI Research. By 2013 hybrids will make up 6 percent of annual U.S. auto sales. The traction battery pack will become air-cooled LIBs which consists of several modules of Li ion battery and connected in series/parallel configuration to provide about >450 VDC, >150 kW peak power, and >80 Ah capacity. As the use of these batteries tends to increase significantly for the next years, it is relevant issues that development of new recycling methods as well as optimization of existing processes to treat spent LIBs for HEV have being addressed in order to obtain sustainability. In this study, physical treatment containing stable electrical discharge of spent LIBs for HEV was carried out for recovery of valuable metals from the batteries. Also In order to increase the yield of valuable metals through physical treatments such as electric discharge of spent batteries, crushing, and classification, we also focused on the recovery of cobalt from +8 mesh fraction due to its large portion in crushed intermediates.

"A heterogeneity study was conducted at Erdenet Copper Mine in Erdenet, Mongolia, to determine the fundamental sampling error associated with blasthole sampling. Using a custom designed sector sampler, six large blasthole samples were collected to perform the test that was developed by Pierre Gy, to estimate the constitutional heterogeneity factor for several types of ore. The study investigated the entire sampling protocol, from mine site to analytical laboratory, and quantified the contributions to fundamental sampling error (FSE) of the various stages of sampling and sample preparation. The total relative standard deviation (RSD) of sampling error was determined to be ±32% and ±49.4% for copper and molybdenum respectively. A classical statistics analysis conducted on the data confirmed the level of RSD. About 95% of the sampling error was produced from only one step in the sampling protocol: when the 1 kg sample was reduced to 50 g sample for chemical analysis. Therefore, it is recommended that the 1 kg sample be reduced to 50g using a slightly different protocol to minimize the FSE. The 1 kg sample should be first crushed to 0.2cm size. A 250g split should then be taken and fine ground. A 50g split should then be taken from the 250g fine ground split. These two simple steps will reduce the FSE to ±7.9% and ±17% for copper and molybdenum respectively. The modified sampling protocol effectively reduces the probability of misclassification of low grade ore to zero. INTRODUCTION The Erdenet copper-molybdenum open pit mine is located in Erdenet, in Orkhon province, Mongolia. The Erdenetiin-Ovoo copper-molybdenum deposit is between 1.5 and 3 km wide, and about 25 km in length (Erdenet Mining Corporation, 2016). Chalcopyrite, bornite covellite and chalcocite are among the major minerals found in the deposit. The mine processes approximately 26 million tons of ore annually. A study was conducted to evaluate the fundamental error associated with the blasthole cuttings and sampling protocol at the mine. The open pit mine uses 215mm diameter Russian drills to drill 17.5m holes for 15m benches. The total weight of blasthole cuttings for a 215mm diameter hole and 15m bench height is between 1.5 and 2 tonnes. This amount of sample is difficult and time consuming to collect and analyze. Therefore, a sector sampler was designed for the Russian drills to collect large samples that were representative of the blasthole cuttings (Ganguli et al., 2016). In order to eliminate the delimitation and the extraction errors, researchers consider sector samplers to be ideal for sampling blastholes (Pitard, 2008; Chieregati and Pitard, 2009). This method was intentionally more rigorous than the blasthole sampling protocol at the mine to ensure that the blasthole cuttings were properly sampled. This study was part of a broader study that also looked at the relationship between particle size and grade. The samples collected by the custom designed sector sampler were very large (195 kg on average), and therefore, sufficient for both studies. The relationship between particle size and grade has been reported in Ganguli et al. (2016)."

"INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES Long rail tunnels require in most cases powerful mechanical ventilations. Besides requirements related to normal operation and maintenance, operational safety always requires a high level of smoke management. Identifying the optimum ventilation concept is essential for achieving proper performance and safety while keeping investment and operational cost at a reasonable level. For the purpose of the present paper, long tunnels have a length of typically 20 km or more. This is related to the European classification of trains (TSI 1303/2014), where the maximum distance from the portals to a firefighting point and between firefighting points is limited to 20 km (only category B passenger rolling stock allowed) or 5 km (general case). From TSI 1303/2014 it can be concluded, that tunnels over 20 km require in any case emergency stations with complex mechanical ventilations. Based on the experience arising from a number of recent projects in the European area, including in particular Gotthard (GBT), Lötschberg, Lyon-Tourin (LTF), Brenner (BBT) and Gibraltar, safety-relevant issues related to the ventilation of long railways tunnels are reviewed in this paper. Amberg Engineering is directly involved in these challenging design tasks and can provide first-hand experience and know-how. As a particular highlight, special attention is devoted to the longest tunnel worldwide, the 57 km long Gotthard Base Tunnel, which will be commissioned in 2016. THE GOTTHARD BASE TUNNEL Overview The Gotthard Base Tunnel will be commissioned in 2016 (official inauguration on the 1st of June and beginning of regular operation on the 11th of December) and will be the worldwide longest tunnel. Its complex and powerful ventilation system is very representative for many other long tunnels and is used as reference in this paper. Therefore, a few key characteristics of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and its ventilation system will be described in some detail in this initial chapter. The Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) consists of two single-track tunnel tubes with connecting galleries every 312 meters. Two so-called multi-functional stations (MFS), located at roughly 1/3 and 2/3 of the tunnel length, host the key equipment for normal and for emergency operation. At these locations, double crossovers allow trains to switch from one tunnel tube to the other. An emergency station is located in each multifunctional station, allowing trains to stop in case of emergency. The general layout of the GBT is presented in Figure 1."

A mixed-integer formulation of the mine scheduling problem is discussed and applied for the purpose of optimizing both the mine production sequencing and the mill blending and processing problems simultaneously. Previous attempts at solving these problems separately, although successful, fail to take into account the interrelationships between these problems. Project structure serves as the outline of this paper, which is directed towards a mining engineering audience. Generalized in its organization, this concept is useful for long, intermediate and short range scheduling. Actual applications are mentioned which show that the concept is also applicable to mining a variety of ores.

Dry magnetic separation of feebly magnetic minerals and wet magnetic separators suitable for highly magnetic minerals have been commercially utilized for a number of years. The beneficiation of magnetic taconite ores by conventional, low intensity magnetic separators in combination with flotation is well established technology (1). However, over the past decade much effort has been expended in developing techniques for the upgrading of feebly magnetic oxidized iron ores (2,5). Such research and development have been stimulated by the limitations of the above-mentioned techniques in application to ores containing fine material; for example, ores requiring fine grinding for liberation or slime-forming ores such as the oxidized taconites or semi-taconites. Wet separation has allowed the reduction of the minim particle size that can be effectively treated from that allowable for high intensity dry magnetic separation. Consequently, the development of high intensity wet magnetic separation methods has received much attention in the search for an effective method to treat the weakly magnetic minerals. Recently Lawver and Hopstock (5) have provided an excellent review of the state of know- ledge of this technology. In addition, a valuable compendium of available laboratory and commercial devices is included. Nonetheless, the feasibility of the use of high intensity magnetic separation in a particular application is largly empirical in nature and requires experimentation to chazacterize the response of a particular ore. The purpose of this paper is to assess the incorporation of high intensity magnetic separation for the beneficiation of a non- sliming specular Michigan hematite. Particular attention is focused on the existence of a lower limit of particle size that can be treated effectively and is inherent in the use of these techniques. Additionally, a rationalization of various models presented in the literature is attempted.

Excavation and loading are primary operations in the surface mine production chain, constituting a significant component of production costs. This makes excavation and loading important cost centers that need to be improved to lower production costs. Optimizing the design and use of excavators will improve energy efficiency in earthmoving operations, and this requires a thorough understanding of the soil-tool interaction process. Modeling the interaction process accurately is the key to this optimization. Experimental and analytical methods have provided limited information on the behavior of soils during excavation. Finite element (Fe) analysis of soil-cutting blade interaction produces some advantages over experimental and analytical methods. However, the soil constitutive equations used in most of the available Fe analyses fail to adequately model the plastic behavior of the soil. This work uses Fe modeling to study the behavior of formation-cutting blade interactions in dozer excavation. The formation is modeled as a nonlinear elastoplastic material using the modified cam-clay (mCC) model. The model accounts for soil-tool interface friction, and progressive and continuous cutting at the blade tip. The results provide soil forces, a progressive developed failure zone and soil displacement fields. The sensitivity analysis of changes in blade angle on cutting force shows that the cutting force increases with increasing blade angle. The cutting depth of the blade had a similar effect on blade cutting force. Increasing the depth of cut increases the required cutting force. Increasing the coefficient of friction at the soil blade interface increases the blade cutting force. Reducing the coefficient of friction at the soil blade interface from 0.3 to 0.05 reduces the cutting force by 22.3%. The percentage represents the maximum potential savings in blade cutting force. This research initiative advances the frontiers of soil-tool interactions during excavations to expand the limited knowledge in this critical area.

Hamersley Iron Pty. Limited, one of the world's largest iron ore producers, operates a 3.0 million tonne per year pelletizing facility at Dampier in Western Australia. The plant produces pellets for the export market using a blend of natural hematite fines from the Company's two mines at Tom Price and Paraburdoo. Processing includes fluidised-bed drying of the ore feed, open circuit dry grinding, disc balling and pellet induration in a travelling grate furnace of Dravo-Lurgi design.

INTRODUCTION A major function of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), Denver Safety and Health Technology Center (DSHTC), Ventilation Branch, is to provide engineering analyses of underground mine¬ ventilation systems for coal, metal, and nonmetal in¬spection departments in accordance with field surveys and data analyses. Health and safety problems such as the control of diesel contaminants, dust, methane, radon, and radon daughters all are dependent upon ventilation. It is necessary for the ventilation engineers at DSHTC to have a complete understanding of the various and highly complex ventilation systems used in the nation's mines. Only through the proper assembly and analysis of data can the engineer determine the causes of prob¬lems and make suitable recommendations. Furthermore, the engineer must have the ability to predict the results of any such recommendations. In the study of the ventilation system at any indi¬vidual mine, it is common practice to collect data on airflow quantities and pressures at key points throughout the mine. However, these data give only a single point¬-in-time view of the system. As the mine develops and progresses, the system undergoes numerous changes; as the mine becomes more extensive, the ventilation re¬quirements increase, and the costs rise. For proper utilization of the available resources, it is necessary for the engineer to have a sound engineering basis for deci¬sions on how best to ventilate the mine. To evaluate the system as a whole, particularly re¬garding possible system changes, it has become necessary to rely on computers to perform the calculations in¬volved in analyzing the network. This chapter sum¬marizes the implementation of such computer capabili¬ties at DSHTC, as well as the services that are available from DSHTC. ANALOG SIMULATIONS AND ANALYSES OF VENTILATION NETWORKS As early as 1954, the US Bureau of Mines (USBM) in Pittsburgh, PA, was using an analog computer as an aid in analyzing ventilation systems. The Mcllroy Fluid Network Analyzer used filament-tube resistance elements and an electrical power supply to simulate mine-ventila¬tion systems electrically. This system is shown in Fig. 1. Analog simulation has proven to be a practical tool, providing fast analyses of complicated problems after the initial setup has been completed. Advancements in electronic technology over the past 24 years have made possible the construction of an analog computer that has streamlined several operating features of the previous machines. The DSHTC Ventilation Branch now has an improved electronic analog computer to assist in the analyses of ventilation systems. General Features As shown in Fig. 2, the analog computer used at the DSHTC Ventilation Branch has three "element" cabi¬ nets, a console, and a printer. The cabinets contain the fan elements and the airway-resistance elements that are used to "program" an analysis problem; each element is independent of the others. The console contains the "patchboard" and the controls necessary to operate the analog computer. The patchboard connects the inde¬pendent elements into the circuit appropriate for simu¬lating the ventilation system. The total system is controlled from a panel on the console, while the value corresponding to each element is set on the individual controls located on the face of each element. The control panel has three visual output displays that give the quantity of flow, the pressure of the output junction with respect to a datum, and the differential pressure across each element. The control panel also allows manual selection of the element to be monitored, or automatic scanning and printing of values for the entire system. Capabilities The analog computer can simulate an existing mine¬-ventilation network. This is accomplished by collecting field data at the mine to give a complete pressure-¬quantity network. Resistance values for each airway branch may be determined from the quantity of flow in the branch and from the pressure differential between the end-point junctions of the branch. The basic rela¬tonship to determine the resistance is expressed as: H=R •Q2 where H is the pressure differential, R is the resistance, and Q is the quantity of air in the flow. After the resistance values are known for all of the airways in the circuit, the elements on the analog com¬puter can be set to the corresponding values. In the ultrafine coal cleaning process, small coal particles (-400 mesh) are produced during the pulverizing operation. After the coal cleaning process, these ultrafine particles are very difficult to dewater, and create problems in coal transportation, storage and handling at utility plants. Research work on ultrafine coal dewatering and briquetting has resulted in the development of a single stage operation that is potentially more effective and economic than conventional thermal drying and briquetting processes. The final coal product have a moisture content of less than 15% and possess high strength and water resistance that satisfies coal transportation, storage and handling requirements.

On July 13, 1967 the San Bernardino County Planning Commission approved publicly a request by American Smelting and Refining Company for a zone variance to conduct a silver mining and milling operation in the Calico district, southern California, Coincidentally, on July 14 the U.S. Treasury halted its sales of silver, and the U.S. free market price quoted rose immediately from $1.30 to $1.77 per ounce. In its request to the commission Asarco stated that about 13,500 to 15,000 tons of rock would be moved daily by surface mining, including 7,000 tons of ore. The ore would be crushed to minus three-quarters inches and the silver recovered "by a chemical process." The grade of the ore was not given, but the company said that it might also recover barite as a byproduct, The operation would employ 150-160 people. Additional activity in the district includes exploration programs by Superior Oil Company and Calico Silver Mines, Ltd. History and production: In retrospect, as the price of silver began to rise in 1961 from 91 cents an ounce, and as Asarco began its exploration program in late 1964, a new era for an old bonanza silver district would seem to have begun. The Calico district has been mined for silver only on a very, very small scale since 1882 to 1896, when an estimated $12 to $20 million (perhaps 15 to 20 million troy ounces) of that metal was produced from the 50-odd mines of the district and vicinity. These mines include the Silver King, Oriental, Waterloo, Garfield, Odessa and Waterman (which is about 8 miles west of the district). Much smaller-valued amounts of barite, gold, lead, and copper also have been produced from the ore deposits of the district; and from 1884 to 1907 the region yielded about $9 million worth of borate minerals.

"Mining companies want to be in a position to move quickly and seize a favorable market or to keep their key staff productively busy. One of the problems for these companies is the time required to compensate for unavoidable impacts that the mine will have on the natural environment and to gain environmental permits. All too often, circumstances that were favorable when the project was proposed have become less favorable by the time all the hurdles have been cleared.Accordingly, many mining companies are interested in ways they can inject more predictability into their timelines for gaining environmental permits, shorten those timelines, and be more certain of getting the permits they need to carry out their next project.One increasingly popular way to do this is through a relatively new kind of service — the mitigation bank.Mitigation banks purchase property or easements through property that has been impacted by agricultural, industrial or resource activity. They then turn it around from an environmental point of view. This might include restoring streams and wetlands so that fish and aquatic organisms can survive, and animals have habitat and food to flourish.Appropriate native species of plants including trees and shrubs are planted, and steps may be taken to introduce wildlife to the new habitat. In some cases, a special focus is placed on creating habitat for rare and endangered species of plants or animals.The property is inspected by regulatory authorities, coordinated through an interagency review team (IRT). If the property is determined to be effective as natural habitat, the mitigation bank is then issued credits that it can then sell to development projects that are creating an unavoidable permitted environmental impact elsewhere. A mining company, for example, would buy credits to offset the aquatic impacts due to construction of a mine, access roads and other infrastructure — as required by the Section 404 Clean Water Act permit that governs those unavoidable aquatic impacts. The mitigation bank used for offset must have an IRT-approved service area that includes the location of the impacts."

The giant El Abra copper mine project under development in Northern Chile will come on stream in early 1997 at a production rate of 500 million pounds of cathode copper annually. Ownership is 51 % Cyprus Amax and 49% Codelco. Cyprus Amax has construction responsibility. Total project cost is $1050 million. El Abra will incorporate latest operational technology with labor efficient practices to achieve world class productivity levels and low initial cash costs of about US $0.35/lb copper. Development procedures for the almost 800 million ton oxide deposit, as well as the hydrometallurgical processes selected for recovery of the copper values are discussed. Construction costs and pertinent technical data are shown.

The 30th annual American Mining Hall of Fame Awards Banquet and Fundraiser sponsored by the Mining Foundation of the Southwest (MFSW) will be held at the JW Marriott Star Pass Resort, Tucson, AZ on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012. Each year, one living inductee, two recipients of Medals of Merit and up to five honorees from mining history are chosen by the MFSW for their outstanding contributions to the mining industry. Gregory H. Boyce will be the guest of honor, featured speaker and inductee into the American Mining Hall of Fame. Boyce, chairman and chief executive office of Peabody Energy, is being honored for his leadership in the coal industry.
