"More than 400 plants in the world are able to accumulate nickel (Ni) in their aerial parts at concentrations higher than 10 g per kg of dry biomass. Then, Ni can be recovered from the biomass of these hyperaccumulator plants. Agromining is a chain consisting in growing such plants and producing metal. It has been developed thanks to the combined know-how of agronomy and hydrometallurgy. Hydrometallurgical processes have been designed; two different pathways were developed: i) acid leaching of ashes after biomass combustion and ii) direct Ni water extraction after biomass grinding. Experiments with 2 species of Ni hyperaccumulators (A. murale from the Balkans and R. bengalensis from Malaysia) have shown that the first process is very robust and transposable. For the second one, the way Ni is stored in the plant has a strong influence on extraction. A. murale transformation was explored in more details from the lab scale to the pilot scale. Results proved that Ni is totally transferred into the aqueous phase after 2 hours at 90 °C. A life cycle assessment has clearly shown the environmental interest of this approach (especially by detoxifying agricultural soils). INTRODUCTION Agromining is an emerging phytotechnology aiming at recovering metals thanks to hyperaccumulating plants (van der Ent et al., 2018). These plants are able to accumulate very high concentrations of metal in their aerial parts. For example, for nickel, the hyperaccumulation threshold is 0.1%, i.e. 10 grams of metal per kilogram of dry biomass. "During 2012 and 2013, Minera Esperanza conducted a series of thickening and deposition trials to identify design and operational parameters associated with increased thickening of its tailings. These trials focused on benchmarking the current solids concentration of tailings (62 - 64%) in anticipation of an increase to 67% solids once two new 45 m diameter deep-cone paste thickeners are commissioned in 2014. These trials studied the sedimentation and rheological characteristics of the existing tailings and performed deposition modelling to assist with developing short- and long-term designs for the tailings storage facility. To verify and optimise these models, Minera Esperanza considered a series of laboratory, pilot, and industrial-scale deposition trials. This paper provides a review of the trials conducted in the laboratory and at industrial-scale and considers the results and optimisations for the short- and long-term design of Minera Esperanza’s tailings storage facility."

With the feature of finely-dissemination particle and complex mineral composition, oolitic hematite is considered to be the ore dressing difficult problem in the world. Series research on refractory oolitic hematite in Zhangjiakou Area are introduced as following: ore properties?technology mineralogy and mineral processing technology. The survey shows: with the fine grinding of the hematite to a fineness of -0.076mm 95%, obtaining iron concentrates grading 62.74% Fe at the recovery of 46.80% by high intensity magnetic separation- reverse flotation flowsheet; under the three stages intensity magnetic separation,four stages grinding and four stages gravity separation, getting the iron concentrates grading 61.09% Fe at the recovery of 45% using high intensity magnetic separation- gravity separation flowsheet; with roasting temperature of 800°C, time for 75~90min and ore-coal ratio of 11, gaining the iron concentrates assaying 62.74% Fe at the recovery of 87% by roasting- magnetic separation flowsheet. At present, this research is still doing for the target of raising the concentration recovery on the base of high grade concentrate. The beneficiation test on low grade phosphate ore from a state of Russia is carried out. The rougher-cleaner ? re-cleaner system is used in the flotation process, The fineness of grind is 39.07% minus 200 mesh. The result indicates that concentrate containing 31.25% P2O5 can be obtained from the flotation feed assaying 6.18% P2O5, with 93.54% P2O5 recovery. The test result is also a guideline for further development of some currently operated phosphate beneficiation plants.

Take Henan middle-low grade bauxite as research object, according to the pilot experiment of bi-flotation technology, the concentrate A/S is 9.37 and the recovery of alumina is 80.18% by flotation separate the raw ore which A/S is only 4.19.

There are various types of natural zeolite deposits in Turkey. Naturally occurring zeolites are excluded from many important commercial applications where uniformity and purity are essential. In this paper, the beneficiation of natural zeolite, taken from western part of Turkey, was investigated. According to X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and mineralogical studies carried out on the representative ore sample, the natural zeolite was found to be in the forms of clinoptilolite and heulandite. Clinoptilolite forms as a devitrification product of volcanic glass in tuffs. Quartz, clay minerals, orthoclase, plagioclase, biotite, seruzite-muskovite and epidote were observed as impurities. Several types of mineral processing methods were performed in order to remove impurities from the natural zeolite sample to produce high purity zeolite. Gravity separation methods such as shaking table and superpanner were carried out for separating heavy minerals, while high intensity dry magnetic separation was used for discarding magnetic minerals.

A rare earth deposit in Sichuan, China is rich in wulfenite in addition to bastnaesite and barite, and the deposit has already adopted high intensity magnetic separation technique to pre-enrich the rare earth minerals, during which the wulfenite and barite have been left in the non-magnetic product. Because the chemical composition of wulfenite is only 24.17% Mo and 42.15% Pb, it is very hard to obtain qualified lead or molybdenum concentrates by physical separation process. To pre-concentrate the wulfenite, flotation has been first introduced, and by using 100g/t GY-7 as dispersant, 1500g/t CP-1 as depressant and 160g/t GY-4 as collector, a floatation concentrate assaying 15.52% Mo with a recovery of 86.12% was obtained. Then a leaching process was conducted by using 1.2mol/L Na2S as leaching agent, and molybdenum can be translated into sodium molybdate in the solution with a leaching recovery of 99%. To recover rare earth oxides (REO) and lead from the leaching residue, a magnetic separation process has been conducted. Above all, by the whole process, the molybdenum recovery reaches 86.16% in the sodium molybdate solution, and a lead concentrate assaying 54.59% Pb with recovery of 27.99% could be obtained.

Traditional mineral processing techniques are more and more difficult to recover the increasingly low grade phosphate ores today. Although bioleaching method has been attempted to process low grade ores in hydrometallurgical field due to economical and environmental reason, it has been hardly used in leaching phosphate ore at home and abroad. Strains of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans were collected and separated from the acid drainage of a coal mine in Anhui province of China. Ultraviolet irradiation and Microwave inducement were applied to the bacterial cultivation process to produce strains of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithi-obacillus ferrooxidans able to tolerate extremely low pH conditions and generate sulphuric acid by oxidizing elemental sulfur or sulphide and the mutagenesis can achieve higher leaching rate. The bioleaching result will improve more by the addition of Tween series surfactants.

The molybdenum ores currently utilized in China are mostly molybdenum sulfide ores whereas oxidized molybdenum ores, being finely disseminated and difficult to process, have not been exploited and utilized effectively. In this article the beneficiation process of a molybdenum ore occurred in an oxidized ore zone was investigated in order to provide a new way for the development and utilization of the oxidized molybdenum ores in China. The molybdenum mineral in the ore was mainly wulfenite and the associated minerals included barite, limonite, quartz and small amount of cerusite. Limonite in the ore occurred in a crust and honeycomb-like colloidal state and composed the framework for the formation of the other minerals in the ore, which filled the pores in the framework. Wulfenite was mainly fine-grained and occurred in the fine porous crust and honeycomb-like framework. The finely disseminated ore structure made the separation and recovery of the molybdenum mineral in the ore very difficult. On the basis of the mineralogical study of the ore, experiments were conducted to compare the various mineral processing methods for the beneficiation of the ore, including single gravity concentration, single magnetic separation, single flotation, and a combination of high intensity magnetic separation and gravity concentration. The results indicated that with single gravity concentration a molybdenum concentrate containing 5.85 % Mo with a yield of 11.76 % and a Mo recovery of 43.5 % was produced. With single high intensity magnetic separation it was very hard to obtain a molybdenum concentrate product. With single flotation process a molybdenum concentrate containing 7.06 % Mo with a yield of 15.14 % and a Mo recovery of 62.63 % was produced. With a combination of high intensity magnetic separation and gravity concentration a molybdenum concentrate containing 6.46 % Mo with a yield of 11.81 % and a Mo recovery of 42.11 % was produced. In conclusion, compared to the other methods the flotation process can produce more reasonable technological and economical results and is the best process for the exploitation and utilization of the finely disseminated oxidized molybdenum ore.

We studied the feasibility of automated mineralogy to discriminate between tennantite and enargite, the main sulfosalts found in the Rio Blanco deposit, Codelco-Chile, in order to predict the content of minor elements (As, Sb, Ag, Pb, Zn) that impact on the process and concentrate prices. The identification of these minerals is feasible using traditional microscopy, however not possible by automated mineralogy. This drawback prevents comparing the databases generated in the past by means of conventional microscopy with the information obtained at present by QEMSCAN. To differentiate enargite from tennantite the mineral composition of both sulfosalts was studied by electron microprobe. The presence of associated minor element contents of about 8% zinc in tennantites and not exceeding 0.07% in enargites were used to modify the SIP database of QEMSCAN to enable the quantification of these phases in samples of head, residue and concentrate coming from As-bearing domains of the deposits. Detection limits allowed to determine the mineral species in the head, concentrate and residues. The integration of methodologies such as automated mineralogy and microprobe can be used successfully to quantify the presence of some ore forming solid solution.

As the second largest phosphate resource in the world, Chinese phosphate ores generally grades with low of P2O5. The presentation of beneficiation test on the low grade of phosphate rock in this paper may be used for a reference for development and utilization of the similar reserves. The ore is a marine sedimentary phosphate rock containing low grade of P2O5 and high content of MgO and R2O3; The banded structure shows its suitability for heavy medium separation. The laboratory heavy liquid testing results indicate that as specific gravity of the heavy liquid is 2.85 g/cm3, a rougher concentrate assaying 28.71% P2O5 could be obtained while the rougher tailings contain only 4.47% P2O5. When the combined process with heavy liquid separation followed by direct & re-verse flotation is employed to treat the feed containing 21.15% P2O5, 3.79% MgO, 1.86% Fe2O3, 3.66% Al2O3, 23.75% A.I, and specific gravity of heavy liquid is 2.84 g/cm3, the optimum mesh of grind is 67.5% minus 200 mesh, a phosphate concentrate contained 32.51% P2O5, 0.48% MgO, 0.81% Fe2O3, 1.69% Al2O3 can be produced at a yield of 55.24%. The concentrate P2O5 recovery is 85% with which quality comply with the Class A specifications for production of phosphate fertilizer.

The low-grade iron ore sample contains both lumps and fines. It is mostly hematitic iron ore and considerable amount of goethitic/limonitic material is present in it. The major impurities present were quartz and clay. It is observed that the iron bearing phases are poorly liberated above 300 µm and the liberation improves below 300 µm. More than 80% liberation is achieved below 106 µm. Based on the liberation data, the feed for the different beneficiation methods was prepared by stage crushed the ROM followed by grinding passing to 106µm and the ground material (-106µm) was deslimed. The underflow was subjected to various beneficiation techniques such as tabling, enhanced gravity separator (EGS), wet high intensity magnetic separation (WHIMS), and flotation and the results are discussed. All the methods studied could able to produce pellet grade concentrate with iron content of 64.5%, however, a marginal higher yield was observed for WHIMS (81%). "Environmental concerns necessitate the recycling of process water within mining operations. Given that recycled water is chemically different from fresh water, and collectors are added such that they adsorb at the liquid-particle interface, changes in the aqueous phase are expected to affect collector adsorption. A Finnish nickel-copper ore was floated in synthetic plant waters of varying ionic strengths and plant waters obtained at Boliden Kevitsa Mine, with aerophine and sodium isopropyl xanthate as collectors. Of the tested waters, the copper thickener overflow was the least conducive to xanthate adsorption and valuable mineral recovery. The nickel thickener overflow, standard process water, and raw water were the most conducive to xanthate adsorption. For the raw water and nickel thickener overflow, increased adsorption correlated with increased valuable mineral recovery. Further, recycling xanthate retained in water affected the selectivity of the collector and hence the concentrate grades.INTRODUCTIONFlotation is a separation process that exploits the differences in the surface properties of the particles being separated. The efficiency of separation is dependent on the degree of hydrophobicity achieved by the particles meant to be floated, which are, in most cases, valuable minerals. The hydrophobicity is in turn dependent on the adsorption of the chosen collector onto the surfaces of the floated particles (Fuerstenau, 1984; Taggart and Hassialis, 1946). Empirical findings suggest that species dissolved in solution strongly influence collector adsorption and overall flotation response (Fuerstenau and Chander, 1986). Due to environmental concerns, it is becoming more pertinent for mining plants to recycle process water and hence limit the usage of potable water. There is an interest to ensure minimal discharge of plant water into the environment, as this water is typically polluted with process reagents that may render it toxic (Levay et al., 2001)."

The dynamic behaviors of the air bubbles in the dense gas-solid fluidized bed have a significant effect on the performance of dry coal separation. The combined method of experimental measurement and numerical simulation were conducted to conduct the research of the mean diameters and rising velocities of the bubbles in the fluidized bed. The calculation models of mean diameter and rising velocity of the single bubble were proposed. The results indicate that the models of the mean diameter raised by Rowe (1976) and the rising velocity raised in this work could be used to predict the bubble dynamic parameters in gas-solid fluidized bed. With the Geldart B type of magnetite powder as the medium solids and while the gas velocity of 1.5Umf=U=2.2Umf, the mean bubble diameter along the bed height is 36mm<Db<45mm, and the mean rising velocity of the single bubble is distributed in 40~65cm/s. The results of experimental measurement, numerical simulation and model predication provide well agreements finally. Based on the uniform fluctuations of air bubbles diameters and their rising velocities, the separation experiments of 50~6mm dry coal using the mixture of 0.3~0.15mm magnetite powder and <1mm fine coal as medium solids were carried out. The results show that the probable error, E is 0.06, which indicates a good separation performance by using the gas-solid fluidized bed. "With continuous mining industry development and dressing plant scale expansion, flotation cell is developed towards to large scale and intelligence. Based on flotation cell scale-up theory and industrial practice, KYF-320 air-forced mechanical flotation cell with effective volume of 320m3 was successfully developed by Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM) and adopted by China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., Ltd, Luming project of China Railway Resource Group Co., Ltd, and Toromocho project of Chinalco in Peru. In this paper, the structure and technical characteristics of KYF-320 flotation cell are introduced, and the application of that equipment in China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., LTD is demonstrated. The tank of KYF-320 flotation cell is cylinder-shaped, 8200mm in diameter and 7500mm high, with double froth lauders and large inclined angle cone bottom. 16 sets of KYF-320 flotation cells of which the processing capacity is 26,000,000 tons/a, are used in the second phase project of China Gold Inner Mongolia Mining Co., LTD. Their stable running shows the long life of impeller and stator and the power intensity (power consumption divided by effective volume of flotation cell) of KYF-320 flotation cell is only 0.73kW/m3 which is significantly less than that of small scale flotation cells. The industrial production obtains good results that the Cu grade of final concentrate of entire flotation circuit is 22.90% at the recovery of 86.73%, when Cu grade of feed is 0.35%, which indicates that KYF-320 flotation cell has good performance and can be widely used in large scale mine."

This is a brief survey of the technological solutions for deep cleaning of baddeleyite?s concen-trate. Baddeleyite is part of kamaphorite of composite apatite-magnetite ore in alkaline-ultrabasic mountain range of Kola Peninsula. Baddeleyite?s concentrate, which is being produced by Kovdorsky GOK (ore mining and processing enterprise) contains 97.5%~98.5% (Zr?2 + ?f?2) and also scandium oxide (0.05%). It is usually used without any chemical processing. World demand for zirconium oxide is constantly on the rise. Its consumption grows in ceramic industry and in high-tech spheres. That?s why the demand for its purity is very important nowadays (additional cleaning from phosphorus, silicon, iron, aluminium). The mechanism and kinetics of interaction of activated bad-deleyite with sulphuric acid has been studied as well. While applying method of mathematical mod-eling it was confirmed that the mechanical activation is effective for the intensification of sulphation process of baddeleyite?s concentrate with the aim of purifying it from dirt. The use of the calculated optimal regimes allows to reduce such technological operation factors as: temperature, the du-ration of process, the sulphuric acid consumption. It also allows to determine the conditions of anticipatory abstraction of scandium and main dirt in solution in comparison with zirconium oxide.

"The aim of NPO RIVS research and practice activities is to minimize impact of the mineral processing plants (MPP) on environment by using new concentration methods, high-technology equipment, implementation of engineering solutions directed to reduce emission of polluting substances (PS) into atmosphere, application of low-waste technologies, decrease of water withdrawal from a surface water or groundwater source for process needs. In our studies environmental safety of mineral flotation is provided through technologies using highly selective chemicals, that leads not only to reducing reagent consumption, and production of saleable products of high content of extracted minerals, but also to reducing pollutant emissions, decreasing supply of surfactants (SAA) in natural geosystems, primarily, in ground and surface waters. Decrease of water withdrawal from a surface water or groundwater sources for process needs can be achieved by using closed circuits and waste water treatment for further use in process operations, recycled water conditioning to obtain optimum quality parameters for process operations of concentration. Concentration in water (wet processing), tailings dewatering and semidry and dry (filtration cake) stockpiling in tailing ponds, efficient dust-collecting systems contribute to pollutant emission reduction. Use of mineral wastes – concentration tailings as a source of valued components, facilitates efficient use of natural resources and reduces wastes and its impact on natural ecosystems due to smaller areas of damaged lands during waste products disposal. Process and engineering solutions of NPO RIVS that allow diminishing impact of MPP on natural environment (NE) have been implemented in mining and processing complexes of Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kirghizia and Mongolia. Compliance with environmental safety requirements contributes to enhancement of mineral processing and sustainable mineral development.INTRODUCTION Mining and processing complexes have a significant impact on environment as a result of extraction and recovery of mineral resources, landscape changes, waste disposal and, as a consequence, pollution of soils, surface and underground water sources. Therefore, the aim of the operation of the mineral processing enterprises in its research and practical activities is to reduce impact on environment due to new beneficiation technologies, high-technology equipment, implementation of engineering solutions directed to reduce emissions of polluting substances (PS) into atmosphere, use of low-waste technologies, decrease of water withdrawal from a surface water or groundwater source for process needs. The purification process of water-mining carnallite and rough potassium chloride concentrate from Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Group Co. Ltd. are investigated by the preprocessing-reverse flotation technology respectively. The results show that the impurities such as calcium sulfate and sodium chloride can be effectively removed from water-mining carnallite ore and rough potassium chloride concentrate by the new technology, the low-sodium carnallite is obtained and the final potassium chloride product greatly upgraded. The content and the recovery of KCl in the low-sodium carnallite are 25.78% and 97.50%, meanwhile the content of NaCl, CaSO4 in the low-sodium carnallite are 0.56% and 0.24%, and the removal of sodium chloride and calcium sulfate in the low-sodium carnallite are 97.48%, 85.10% respectively. The KCl content and recovery of high quality potassium chloride product are 98.25%, 96.70%, and CaSO4 content is 0.40% with 83.24% calcium sulfate removed in the high quality potassium chloride product.

"The purpose of the research is to study the mineralogical features of the structure of the wall accretion formed during melting on the working surface of the walls of metallurgical aggregates and adversely affect the stability of the lining of blast furnaces (BF). We presented the results of studies of the material composition of lining and wall accretion of the furnaces of blast furnaces of the metallurgical plant specializing in the smelting of ferromanganese, nodular and pig iron. It is established that the garnissage is an aggregate of layered texture, formed as a result of the crystallization of slag and metallic melts. Refractory calcium and magnesium silicates and aluminosilicates (minerals of the melilite group, leicite, olivine group minerals) and amorphous glassy oxide solid solutions of variable composition crystallize from the slag melts in the upper part of the hearth. In the slag matrix, inclusions of carbon (amorphous and graphite) and products of crystallization of metallic melts of alpha-iron, iron carbides and / or manganese are observed. Evidence of carbon evolution (in the form of graphite) is precisely in the crystallization of metal melts, there are significant differences in the structure of carbon in coke and in the garnissage. The conducted studies confirm that it is impossible to obtain reliable information on the material composition of new formations in the blast-furnace process without using a complex of modern methods of technological mineralogy.INTRODUCTION The formation of the wall accretion (garnissage) - a solid protective layer as a result of smelting products crystallization on the inner (working) surface of the liner. This is due to the design of blast furnaces with a high-efficiency heat sink using copper coolers and the use of carbon blocks with high thermal conductivity in the lining. The objective of the study was research of the material composition of the lining and wall accretion of the blast furnace hearth of one metallurgical plant that specialized in smelting ferromanganese, nodular and pig iron, to assess the effect of new formations for stability of the lining of blast furnaces (BF)."
