It is a well-known fact that usage of reverse cationic flotation in magnetite ores processing enables to improve the quality of magnetite concentrates. We designed an iron ore concentrate technology (with 70 -71 % of iron) including reverse cationic flotation in pneumo-mechanical flotators RIF (developed by RIVS Corporation, Russia) with good biodegradable etheramines as collectors for flotation of quartz. Practical application of high biodegradable flotation reagents decreases environmental impact risk of objects and enterprises of mining industrial complex. This work presents results of development of flotation technology for production of high quality ferruginous concentrates from magnetite ores of Russia and Ukraine deposits. "Russia’s rare metal reserves are composed of compositionally and structurally complex ores and are characterized by an increased content of natural radionuclides due to their geochemical similarity with rare metals. For instance, concentrates of Zashikhinsky daeposit are characterized by an increased content of uranium (0,06%) and thorium (0,59%); Beloziminsky deposit holds pyrochlore-apatite-magnetite-carbonate ores characterized by increased radioactivity (130 mkR/h) and containing 0,0016-0,0025% of uranium; Etykinsky deposit is characterized by columbite-pyrochlore-microlith mineralization with an average ore grade of 0,013% of uranium and 0,0020% of thorium; eudialyte concentrate of Lovozero deposit (Alluaiv area) belongs to Class II of mineral reserves. Industrial development of these mineral reserves involves the need to comply with environmental standards, public health requirements applicable to finished core and by-products, to take into account the amount and class of the generated radioactive waste, the possibility of disposal or recycling of the radioactive production waste. Concentration processes of radioactive rare metal feeds most often lead to a concentration of natural radionuclides and their accumulation in concentrates. Comprehensive hydrometallurgical processes are currently under development for such concentrates, aimed at producing salable products compliant with the radiation safety standards. The choice of the hydrometallurgical processing method for radioactive rare metal concentrates is based on the mineralogical component of the concentrate, textural and structural features, the distribution of valuable components and impurities, and the content of radionuclides. A systemic approach to the selection of processing methods, in particular integrating several methods, is an effective solution. Methods may not only be combined, but also inextricably linked with each other. Hydrometallurgical processing methods include leaching by acidic and alkaline agents; sulfatization for selectively decomposing the minerals and moving the bulk of U and Th into solution; fluorine extraction process. Methods of precipitation and co-precipitation, extraction (by liquid and solid extractants), sorption, and ion exchange are used to decontaminate the solutions by removing thorium, mezathorium, uranium, and their radioactive decay products. Agents used in hydrometallurgical processing of radioactive rare metal ores include sulfuric, nitric, hydrochloric, hydrofluoric acid, alkali (NaOH, KOH), sorbents (for example, AB-17) for sorption of uranium and extractants (mono- and bidentate organophosphorus compounds, diamides, etc.) for the extraction separation of rare, rare-earth, and radioactive elements."

The kinetics of hydrochemical oxidation of antimonite in solutions of nitric acid was studied using the rotating disk method and the factor experiment design. The dependences of the antimonite?s oxidation rate on concentration of nitric acid solutions, temperature, disk rotation frequency, and duration of interaction were determined. The adequate kinetic models allowing calculating the specific oxidation rate at any combination of the values of the influencing factors were obtained. The oxidation process is found to proceed in a mixed mode, close to chemically controlled. Gradually, as the sediments of elemental sulphur and Sb2O5 accumulate on the disk surface, the process becomes controlled by internal diffusion. The observed high (more than second) order of the oxidation rate with respect to the concentration of nitric acid was explained by the autocatalytic action of the acid reduction products. The apparent activation energy depends on the stage of interaction. At the initial stage (in a mixed mode of the process proceeding), it depends on nitric acid concentration and varies from 31.5 kJ?mol?1 (in 2 M HNO3) to 36.1 kJ?mol?1 (in 10 M HNO3). This trend indicates the weakening of diffusion limitations with a nitric acid concentration increase. When the process is controlled by internal diffusion, the apparent activation energy was found to be 14.5 kJ?mol?1. The obtained kinetic characteristics enlarge the database on hydrochemical oxidation kinetics of sulphides and can be used for the elaboration of the recommendations for the effective comprehensive exploitation of antimony-bearing ores and concentrates.

"This work presents the results of the development of a flowchart for the processing of copper production dusts resulting in the production of of lead sulphate, tribasic lead sulfate (TBLS), ammonium perrhenate, zinc, copper-cadmium cake.Dust having the following composition (wt. %): Pb 39.3, Zn 6.5, Cu 5.5, Stotal 10.8, As 1.05, SiO2 0.6, Cd 0.8, Bi 0.04, Ag 0.02, Re 0.03 was used in the work. Chemical and X-ray analyses indicated that lead, zinc and copper are generally present in dusts in the form of sulfates, various amounts of oxides, sulfides, silicates; sulfur (according to chemical analysis data) is present in the form of sulfates (~ 90%) and in the form of sulfides (~ 10%).Studies have been made on two-stage stripping of copper production dusts containing lead, zinc, copper, cadmium, rhenium in the form of various compounds, at first with soda solution, then with nitric acid solution. It has been indicated that the combination of the operations allows the recovery of 98% rhenium, 82% lead, 92% copper, and 96% zinc and cadmium each in the solution. Furthermore, at the stage of dust leaching with soda, 80% of rhenium and 0.01% of nonferrous metals each are recovered in the solution. Remaining quantities of all metals are recovered in nitric acid solution up to maximum values. Such behaviour of metals is caused by metal phase content in dusts and properties being formed during leaching of compounds. At the stage of dust leaching with soda solutions, carbonates with various compositions are formed due to the exchange reaction between nonferrous metal sulfates and sodium carbonate. The conversion of PbSO4 into PbCO3 is apparently occurs in the solid phase and the conversion of readily watersoluble zinc, copper, and cadmium sulfates into that of carbonate salts occurs in the liquid phase. Rhenium passes into solution due to the presence of rhenium greater quantity in dust in the form of readily soluble perrhenate. Some portion of the perrhenate is, probable, blocked by lead sulfate and liberated in the conversion of PbSO4 into PbCO3."

This paper introduces the application of CRIMM high-gradient magnetic separator in refinement of feldspar powders as well as the supporting technical outfits needed by the refining process with the high-gradient magnetic separator as main equipment. It could reduce the content of Fe2O3 to 0.03% with a deferrization rate of 85.88% from the feldspar raw ore containing 0.17% Fe2O3by using the above refining technology, producing an ultrapure feldspar product.

"Hydrometallurgical processes used for metal recovery from waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) typically involve dismantling, shredding and physical separation prior to successive leaching stages for selective dissolution of different metals. The principles of the physical separation units are well understood, but valuable metal losses of more than 30 % can be incurred during these processing steps. The impact of the physical separation units’ performance on downstream leaching operations have not been defined; this prevents the development of a well-integrated process. The objective of this project was to determine to what extent the base metal leaching behavior depends on the physical separation pre-treatment. PCBs were shredded to 100 % passing 2 mm before physical separation by dense medium separation (DMS) as well as magnetic separation. Batch leaching tests using various concentrations of sulfuric acid were conducted on three feed fractions: (1) shredded PCBs without any physical separation, (2) heavy fraction recovered from DMS, and (3) non-magnetic fraction recovered from the DMS heavy fraction. DMS increased the metal content in the feed from 48 % to 75 % on a mass basis, but 70 % of the gold and 20 % of the copper reported to the light fraction. The application of magnetic separation to the heavy fraction produced by DMS removed 67 % and 61 % of the iron and nickel, respectively, while negligible amounts of non-magnetic metals were removed. Although DMS successfully concentrated the feed and magnetic separation removed the majority of iron and nickel, these steps did not result in any improvement in the rate or extent of copper leaching. Metals generally leached faster when the sulfuric acid concentration was increased from 1 M to 2.5 M; this effect was seen to be more pronounced for pretreated feed. INTRODUCTION The fast rate of technological development has led to a decrease in the service life of electronic devices. This is resulting in an increased rate of electronic waste generation. The recovery of metals from electronic waste is of environmental and economic interest. The majority of these metals are typically located on printed circuit boards (PCBs) within electronic devices (Tuncuk, Stazi et al., 2012). Hydrometallurgical processes are considered a viable option for small scale metal recovery from waste PCBs, and generally involve the following steps: disassembly for removal of hazardous and reusable parts, size reduction, physical separation, successive leaching stages for metal dissolution and finally recovery of metals from leach solutions."

"The optimization of metallurgical processes requires an in-depth understanding of the heterogeneity carried by any constituent of interest. It emphasizes that knowledge of the Theory of Sampling (TOS) is the necessary step to ensure that valuable and valid research programs, pilot plants, feasibility studies, plant design and plant operations have been set on solid foundations. Too many publications today are solely based on the properties of the sample, with no mention of how this sample relates to anything in the environment where it was collected. Unfortunately sampling is an error-generating process that leaves no apparent tracks of its shortcomings. Indeed, it is easier to track down analytical errors than sampling errors. Consequently, bad sampling practices plague the scientific community and the industry and are responsible for severe money losses, unsatisfactory science and processing, and sometimes litigation. A point-by-point strategy is presented addressing sampling problems in early stages of a project. Sampling system requirements for metallurgical accounting and process control are listed. The use of Chronostatistics is suggested to determine if sampling systems are performing satisfactorily and to identify the various types of process variability that may not be easily detected by a conventional inspection of available chronological data. This strategy will help engineering firms, manufacturers, managers and supervisors to provide, install, use and maintain key sampling systems located at very important points in a process. Equipped with the appropriate sampling and statistical tools it becomes easier to minimize reconciliation problems with the mine, with suppliers and with clients. Contrary to the beliefs of many people, good sampling systems are not expensive because in the long run they help to reduce hidden cost and better regulate plant productivity; they most certainly minimize the number of unnecessary meetings looking for solutions where there are none. The suggested strategy will help specialists to extract maximum information from the available data, as large investments and crucial decisions depend on it."

Throughout Chile?s history, mining has consistently been a leading industry in the country. The 1990s marked the beginning of a boom in Chile?s mining industry, especially in copper mining, due to both foreign and local direct investment in the sector. Mining?s contribution to the GDP was 15.6% at current prices in 2009, and it accounts for 56% of the country?s exports. Chile?s copper market share reached 35% in 2009. The investment portfolio in mining in Chile for the coming decade has been estimated at 90 billion US dollars. The acute scarcity of human resources currently experienced by the mining sector in Chile will be accentuated in the coming decade as a result of this scenario of investments. The situation is, additionally, similar to the one confronted by other countries involved in the mining industry such as Australia, South Africa, Canada, and in Latin America includes, Peru, Colombia and Brazil. A study carried out by Fundacion Chile, ¨Labor Force in the Chile Mining Industry, Diagnostic and Recommendations, 2011-2020? shows the projected labor shortage for the operation of projects in the development stage, considering only the requirements of the process of extraction, processing, and maintenance. The demand, accumulated incrementally, will be around 115,000 technically skilled workers, professionals, and qualified workers. This figure refers to the operational work force, and does not include the human resources that will be required for the prior stage of the engineering and construction of the projects (brownfield and greenfield). The demand for technically skilled workers and professions for the stages of engineering and construction of the projects that have already received investments is estimated to be 190,000 people for the period 2012-2020. The peak of the demand for engineering is 2012, with a figure that surpasses the 12,000 professionals for all of the engineering specialties. The analysis of the formation of human resources at the tertiary level (where tertiary includes technical/vocational and academic degrees at the undergraduate level) for mining and related majors demonstrates that the programs are scarce with a bias toward theoretical contents and that they are excessively long (40% longer than comparable programs in Australia, Canada, and in OECD countries). The completion rates are low, especially in the technical-vocational programs, which have a completion rate of only around 30%. Finally, the rates of attraction of technically skilled labor and professionals towards careers in mining are insufficient to reduce the identified skill gaps. In the case of university professionals such as geologists, mining engineers and engineers in metallurgy, 80-90% will work in mining. In the case of graduates of relevant majors, that cover skills also utilized by other industries, not only mining?such as maintenance workers, operators of fixed and mobile equipment, etc.?the mining sector appears to be unattractive for reasons such as shift schedules, geographical location of work sites, and other factors. On the basis of the available diagnosis a strategy for the sector has been developed (Workforce Development and Skills Strategy) whose objective is (i) to define a Mining Qualifications Framework to identify the critical roles to be filled (ii) to start, with public resources, a ¨fast-track? training program to assure the availability of at least 28,000 operators (machinery operators, truck drivers, etc.) and maintenance specialists in 2015 (iii) to promote the development of training hubs for mining with learning technologies to train technical labor and professionals on the basis of world class standards (iv) to design and implement a campaign oriented toward the perception of mining as an attractive field of employment opportunity (v) to develop curricular innovations for tertiary education programs, on the basis of international benchmarks. "Adsorption processes with use of anion exchange resins are widely applied in the gold mining industry of Russia and the former Soviet Union. Anion exchange resin AM-2B and its analogs (with mixed basicity) are used as adsorbents. This paper focuses on the study of weak base anion exchange resin and its comparison with AM-2B resin. Different nature of the ion exchange groups of the adsorbents mentioned above provides essential differences in their properties both during adsorption and elution of gold and silver. Multistage gold elution and resin regeneration procedure is used for AM-2B resin whereas alkaline cyanide solution is used for weak base resin and allows for the reduction Capex and Opex in comparison with AM-2B resin. Anion exchange resins AM-2B and PuroGold S-992 were tested. Weak base resin is sensitive to pH of adsorption medium. Optimal pH value is 10.1-10.3 (at ?? >10.5 gold loading onto resin decreases dramatically). Adsorption isotherms for gold, silver, nonferrous metals, cyanide and thiocyanate ions from synthetic individual metal cyanide solutions were defined. Adsorption of all components onto PuroGold resin was lower than for ??-2? resin. Adsorption of metals from the solution with equal molar metal concentration (0.1 mg-equivalent/L of each metal) was also studied. The affinity of resins to cyanide metals complexes was established. Weak base resin has higher selectivity to gold in comparison with ??-2B resin and is less sensitive to ion composition of cyanide solution or pulp treated. Weak base resin was tested for gold recovery from gold ores. On the base of test results it was recommended to introduce this resin at some new plants in Russia. Commissioning and operation performance of gold plants confirmed efficiency of weak base resin use."

"Nowadays, long periods of relatively low iron ore prices have made the steel industry get the greater pressure. To develop appropriate processing technology based on characteristics of the iron ore, so as to reduce the beneficiation costs, is crucial to the improvement of iron and steel enterprise competition. For a typical low-grade iron ore from northeast China, beneficiation process research was conducted based on the in-depth studies of ore characteristics. Results show that the iron grade of the ore was 31.56%, the content of FeO was 6.59%, the main iron minerals were hematite and magnetite with fine dissemination sizes and partly scattering in gangue; With the grinding fineness of 65% passing 0.074mm, and regrinding fineness of 90% passing 0.074mm, the concentrate with 66.80% iron and recovery of 82.90% was obtained via the combined flowsheet of stage grinding – classification – gravity concentration – low and high intensity magnetic separation – reverse flotation. Ratios of gravity concentration and low intensity magnetic separation were 70.21% and 7.57% respectively in 40.42% of total concentrate yield; The loss of micro-size fractions can be reduced by feeding spiral tailings into magnetic separation and flotation; It’s helpful in reducing the dosage of reagents and beneficiation costs by increasing the throughput of gravity concentration and outputting concentrate of low intensity magnetic separation.INTRODUCTION Iron and steel industries are facing the increasing pressures in the continued falling iron ore prices. In order to improve the competitiveness, it is extremely urgent for them to develop more appropriate separation process for the reduction in iron ore beneficiation cost. As a typical low-grade iron ore, Anshan-type iron ore is one of the most important iron ore resources in China [1-3]. The flowsheet of stage grinding and separation contained the classification of the coarse particles and the fine particles, the gravity concentration, the magnetic separation and the anionic reverse flotation has been widely applied for Anshan-type iron ore. With the appropriate separation progress as well as equipment, satisfactory separation results had been obtained, and mineral particles with different size were recovered separately [4-7]. However, the low recovery of fine mineral particles and the relatively high beneficiation costs still prevented the efficient application of the process [8]. For a Anshan-type low-grade iron ore, a typical process flowsheet, as mentioned earlier, with stage grading, classification of the coarse particles and the fine particles, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, anionic reverse flotation was adopted currently. And the concentrate with 67.10% iron and recovery of 75.50% was obtained and the gravity concentrate accounted for 39% of the total concentrate. However, a large amount of fine liberated iron ore particles were lost in the tailings."

"The effects of pH value and dissolved oxygen(DO) in the pulp to the Eh and flotation recovery of pyrite were investigated using potential online detection system. The effects of DO on the Eh and flotation recovery were tested which DO changed from 0.5mg/L to 19.5mg/L in six different pH buffer flotation systems (pH: 4.00, 5.62, 6.86, 9.18, 10.01 and 10.96 respectively). Results of potential detected online demonstrated that the pyrite electrode has nearly the same response to potential as with platinum electrode for the FeS2-xanthate-H2O flotation system under the study conditions. Pulp potential and recovery of pyrite were remarkably influenced by pH, both of them decreased with the increasing of pH and, especially, sharp decreased after pH above 9. As the concentration of DO was increased, the Eh was also increased in all the six different buffer solution, while the flotation recovery was decreased. And the amplitude of variation for Eh was not obvious in acidic and neutral solutions, but on the contrary, the change for flotation recovery was remarkable in neutral and alkaline conditions. This may indicate that the flotation of pyrite will be deteriorated in alkaline and high DO concentration conditions."

In this study, batch flotation experiments were conducted to recover rare earth elements (REE) from an REE ore deposit in the Mushgai Khudag area, Mongolia. Apatite was found to be the major REE mineral while monazite and xenomite were observed as minor minerals. The main purpose was to float apatite to increase the REE content. Oleic acid was used as collector and MIBC was used as frother. Sodium silicate was used as a depressant for iron compounds. NaOH was used to adjust the pH of the flotation to about 9.5~10.0. The particle size was 90% less than 152 ?m (- 100 mesh). The content of REE elements was analysed by ICP - OES to determine the contents of REE such as Ce, La, Nd, Pr and Y. When sodium silicate was used, the best result was obtained using 0.2 mL of sodium silicate, 2 mL of oleic acid and 2 mL of MIBC. Under these conditions, the recovery of REE was about 78% and the grade of the first froth product was 42,995 ppm Ce, 24,088 ppm La, 14,236 ppm Nd, 4,388 ppm Pr and 1,570 ppm Y. When conducting flotation after iron minerals were removed by magnetic separation, a better result was obtained; with 2 mL of oleic acid, 2 mL of MIBC and no sodium silicate, the recovery was increased to 90% and the grade was also increased to 58,600 ppm Ce, 28,624 ppm La, 17,160 ppm Nd, 5,348 ppm Pr and 1,971 ppm Y.

Regrinding rougher flotation concentrates has become a common practice when processing low grade and complex ores. It not only reduces the particle size and improves mineral liberation but also modifies particle surfaces and pulp chemistry due to the strong electrochemical reactions taking place during regrinding. Therefore, the floatability of minerals in the subsequent cleaner flotation is influenced by the regrinding conditions. This paper presents the effect of regrinding conditions on the mineral floatability from both industrial studies in the plant and fundamental studies in the laboratory. Different regrinding conditions were considered, including grinding media, the electrochemical properties of minerals, pulp chemistry (pH, Eh, DO), and breakage mechanisms in tumbling and stirred mills. Results indicate that the selection of regrinding conditions and mill types should not only depend on grinding energy efficiency and liberation but also depend on the surface properties and pulp chemistry produced for effective mineral flotation and separation at the cleaner stage.

Given the global scarcity and value of potable water, interest in the use of water of lower quality in mineral processing has grown significantly in recent years. Previous laboratory batch flotation tests conducted at CSIRO have shown that chalcopyrite floats strongly without collector in distilled water and that the collectorless flotability of chalcopyrite is unaffected by the use of brackish water, sea water or hypersaline water. In contrast, bornite is moderately flotable without collector in distilled water but all three lower-quality waters have a detrimental effect on the recovery of bornite. The depressant effect is so strong that the little recovery achieved in these waters was only slightly above what might have been expected from entrainment alone. This work has now been extended to another important copper sulfide mineral, chalcocite. In contrast to chalcopyrite and bornite, chalcocite does not exhibit collectorless flotability so the chalcocite tests in this study were performed in the presence of a standard collector (potassium ethyl xanthate). The results reveal that chalcocite is flotable with xanthate in distilled water but the lower-quality waters have a detrimental effect on the recovery of chalcocite. This effect is partly reversed by increase collector additions. Further tests were completed in order to investigate the effect of the different ions present in the saline waters on chalcocite flotation. Possible reasons for the observed differences are discussed in terms of the pulp chemistry of the system.

The paper presents the modeling and analysis of oxidation of pyrite copper-zinc ore samples from the Letnee, Yaman-Kasy and Valentorskoye deposits. It is found, that the oxidized samples contain copper and zinc sulfates that are leached under the sample and water contact. It is shown, that sulfide floatability is decreased by the longer-term oxidation.We advise to improve nonferrous metals recovery by joint leaching and ultrasonic treatment of oxidized compounds. Study of the geotechnological processes of non-ferrous metal extraction, on the basis of two copper-zinc ore deposits shows, that heap leaching is of little use for the ores of the Letnee deposit. Leaching results for the Yaman-Kasy ore showed more promise.

"In this investigation, a pilot-scale suspension magnetization roasting reactor was introduced and used to enhance magnetic properties of an iron ore. Consequently, the effects of roasting temperature, reducing gas CO flow rate and fluidizing gas N2 flow rate on the magnetization roasting performance were investigated. The results indicate that the hematite and siderite are almost completely converted into magnetite by a gas mixture of 3.5 Nm3/h CO and 2 Nm3/h N2 at roasting temperature of 520 °C. Under the optimized conditions, the magnetic iron concentrate with an iron grade of 60.18% and iron recovery of 90.17% was achieved. The XRD and Fe mineral phase analyses revealed that most of the hematite and siderite were converted to magnetite, and the magnetic properties were greatly enhanced. INTRODUCTION The steel and iron industry in China has rapidly developed in recent years requiring a large quantity of iron ores. Low-grade and complex iron ores are currently the overwhelmingly dominant mineral resource for iron in China. Therefore, China depends on imported iron ore resources heavily, resulting in an increase in the production costs of iron-making and steel-making[1-3]. Using domestic resources to produce a steady supply of high-quality iron ores is an important step toward the sustainable development of the steel and iron industry[4-5]. The iron ore from Jiuquan iron and steel company is abundant and recognized as typically complex iron ore resources in China. Magnetization roasting followed by low-intensity magnetic separation has been proven as the most feasible methods to upgrade refractory iron ore[6-10]. In present research, an innovative roasting technology, namely suspension magnetization roasting, was developed and applied to recover iron from a typical refractory iron ore. Suspension magnetization roasting technique and equipment developed by Prof. Yuexin Han’s Group at Northeastern University (NEU) is an effective way for the utilization of refractory iron ore. The advent of suspension magnetization roasting will, in China and even globally, produce a significant technological revolution in the field of iron ore beneficiation. Based on the previous works, this paper mainly described experiments on the separation and recovery of iron from a complex refractory iron ore by means of suspension magnetizing roasting and low-intensity magnetic separation processes. The purpose of the research is providing a new technology for effective utilization of refractory iron ore. Process parameters that affected the separation and recovery rate of iron were conducted and optimized, and the reaction process was analyzed by XRD and Fe mineral phase analysis."

"Mikhailovskoye Deposit is comprised of oxidized ferruginous quartzites among other minerals with the former widely spread across the ore field and mined along with unoxidized ferruginous quartzites. PJSC Mikhailovsky GOK strategic development is aimed at iron ore product output expansion. The most critical item of the strategic development road map is process design for separation and concentration of hematite contained in oxidized ferruginous quartzites mined as the by-product in the open pit. Laboratory and semi-industrial tests run to design cost-effective, reliable and environmentally friendly process for Mikhailovskoye deposit oxide quartzites processing included the following processes: - pilot tests of reverse anionic flotation which produced concentrate with Fe60.1-62.9% total iron content and 66-69%Fe recovery rate; - combined magnetic separation and flotation (Marubeni Company, 1982) including slime removal, reverse anionic and cationic flotation and high gradient magnetic separation resulting in 48.9% yield, Fe55-57.5%, up to Fe60.5% hematite concentration ( Fe64.1% being the best result achieved),76.2% recovery. - magnetic separation and flotation, including separation in low gradient (1400 Oe) and high gradient (up to 17000-18000 Oe) magnetic field. The results of these pilots tests were the following: 57-59%Fe concentrate, 70%Fe recovery (Mekhanobrchermet, MGOK, 1982-1988): - magnetic roasting in pilot plant of TSGOK (Krivoy Rog) which produced 61.1%Fe concentrate with 81.5% recovery. Major disadvantage of the method is high generation of dust equal to 20% of the initial feed. Based on third-party studies flotation of oxidized ferruginous quartzites process embracing best processing methods was designed by Metalloinvest Management Company LLC and PJSC Mikhailovsky GOK engineers. This paper discusses analysis of studies aimed at intensification of separation processes with application of mechanical slurry agitation (MSA), addition of alkali (NaOH) and elutriation of initial feed. The paper also provides a design solution to implement a lab-scale MSA plant. It includes feasibility evaluation of MSA inclusion in flotation of oxidized ferruginous quartzites process to enable higher yield and hematite recovery in resultant concentrate. Outcomes of the discussed work have significant value for prospective engineering of OFQ concentration process."

The purpose of the research is the development of a complex of solutions for the maximum extraction of non-ferrous and precious metals from persistent mineral raw materials by heap bioleaching from spent heap leaching (HL) stacks. Methodical recommendations for assessing the suitability of primary and technogenic refractory mineral raw materials for heap bioleaching are developed. Active associations of microorganisms have been created for the conversion from various types of ores to the solution of S, Fe, As, Sb, Cu, Zn, Mn, Ni, Mg, P and other elements, as well as methodologies for their storage, immobilization and preparation of bioreagents in industrial conditions. On a pilot scale, tests were carried out on samples weighing 15-17 thousand tons of refractory gold-sulphide ores (more than 50% of gold is associated with sphalerite), gold-quartz ores with colloidal gold (74% associated with quartz and pyrite) and gold-silver ores with elevated copper and zinc content (1.5 and 3,5%, respectively), as well as man-caused material lying for 4-5 years of spent quarry material of oxidized gold-silver ores. In the pilot-industrial tests of heap bioleaching of gold-sulfide ores, gold recovery of 84-85% and silver was achieved to 89-90%, the possibility of obtaining high-yield solutions of copper and zinc, suitable for hydrometallurgical processing, from gold-silver ores, and the possibility of obtaining waste with a dump content of valuable components, suitable for deep disposal in the construction industry. When comparing two technologies for processing refractory ores after biooxidation under HL conditions, when 1000 tons of ore processed by the bioreagent were re-milled from a size of 40 mm to 0.1 mm and cyanated under the conditions of the factory process, the same results were obtained for gold recovery (85%) and silver (90%), as with the heap version. The key to our well being is sustainable development Development effort for human well being may have adverse impact on the environment also. To keep the net impact positive is critical for sustainable development. For mineral processing industry, the value of a mineral is in the actual value as perceived by the end user. The process designs, investments in technology development all have direct relationship with the value of use and making a net positive impact on our ecosystem The value proposition has shifted towards raw materials and is a big differentiator. The availability of good quality raw material is difficult or is available at a premium. The challenge today is to develop green technologies that make effective and efficient usage of low grade raw materials The low grade raw materials as available pose a significant opportunity for human race for delivering value. They offer an easier reach to a value as perceived in end use but the journey is full of challenges. The first challenge is development of technology for maximizing grade recovery as required by the downstream process. The second challenge is to make the technology viable so that it contributes value to end use and the third challenge is to keep the net impact of the process positive The mining and mineral processing fraternity, being at the beginning of this value chain is set to take the first step in this journey for a tryst with ultimate human well being. Ore characterisation including mineralogy and beneficiation testwork of an ore is very important for determination of possible products and their quality. The results of such study help in ascertaining the beneficiation process route for the ore. The present study deals with ore characterisation study and beneficiation testwork on the samples of hematite iron ore with goethite impurity. The characterisation study reveals that the hematite is under alteration stage to goethite which has become an integral part of hematite. High goethite/limonite content is enhancing the loss of ignition content of the ore and reducing its Fe content. The findings indicate that in case of hematite iron ore associated with goethite and limonite, it is difficult to achieve high grade of concentrate above 65% Fe. It depends on the amount of goethite and limonite minerals and their association with hematite. These minerals contain aluminous impurities and hence, their rejection becomes essential. Separation of limonite and of goethite to limited extent is possible. In case of goethite, effective liberation is not achieved where it occurs as surface alteration product of hematite grains. The gangue mineral reported are clay and gibbsite, and are closely associated with iron minerals. The test work results indicate the grade and recovery of Fe along with alumina and silica content in lumps, sinter fines and pellet feed fines that can be achieved for the different ore types vis-a-vis the percent of available hematite in the ore. The recovery of iron is dependent on the hematite available and the loss of iron values in tailings is more because of rejection of limonite and goethite.
