The Geita gold mines in north-western Tanzania have produced 5 Moz of gold from an estimated endowment of 15 Moz. They are generally classified as typical Archaean orogenic banded iron formations (BIF)-hosted gold deposits in banded iron formations as described by Goldfarb, Groves and Gardoll (2001); Neall and Phillips (1987); Phillips and Powell (1993) and Neall (1987). The controls on gold mineralisation have been reassessed to conclude that Nyankanga, and we conclude that Nyankanga, the largest deposits within the group, developed during a dynamic and protracted deformation history intimately associated with several stages of hydrothermal fluid flow and alteration. The fluid-induced fractures associated with gold mineralisation are primarily manifested as submillimetre to metre-scale fractures and breccias developed preferentially in rocks that have been previously deformed and altered by silicification or seafloor metasomatism. This realisation detracts from the exploration and mining strategies that would solely concentrate on fluid pathways and associated wallrock alteration and veining solely within the BIFs as hosts for economic gold mineralisation.

THIS paper deals with the handling of the various materials used in the 100-ton zinc plant at Risdon, and, in view of the magnitude of the works, the configuration of the ground covered by these works, the variety of the rnaterials used, and the large quantities, a very attractive and interesting subject is opened.The works are situated on the right bank of the River Derwent, about four miles above Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. The Risdon works cover a space of 149 acres, the area being :3800 yards long by 2800 yards wide, and the elevations vary from 6 ft. above high-water mark at the wharf and foreshore to 163 ft. above high-water mark at the power station, these being the limiting points as regards elevation which are considered in this paper. Throughout the paper elevations are given in feet above high-water mark. Fig. 1 shows a general view of the works taken from the opposite bank of the River Derwent. The wharf is clearly shown, with SS Kekerangu loading residue; behind the wharf is seen the inclined conveyor leading to the cakine bin; further up the hill is the leaching division. No. 1 haulage runs to the left of this up to a point on the left of the power station, the large reinforced concrete building at the top of the hill. Below this is the cell room, the largest building on the plant. The roasting division, not very clearly seen, lies at the foot of the main stack, and the casting division lies to the left of this, between the leaching division and the cell room. A large wharf has been construl'ted alongside the works. This wharf is 880 ft. long and 60 ft. wide. It is capable of berthing large overseas steamers, as at low tide there is a depth of :30 ft. of water. The ever increasing demand on land use has led to large areas of land being considered for development, which because of past mining activities are covered by substantial depths of fill materials. This paper examines the problem faced with the development of land infilled with open cast mining backfill, in predicting the behaviour of the fill upon development. To be able to design foundations suitable to withstand the movements that occur within open cast backfills or design a backfilling operation that produces land suitable for a proposed after development, a means of predicting backfill settlement is required. Factors critical to this prediction are the timing of backfilling operations, the compactive state of the backfill and the inundation of the backfill. The analysis of a considerable quantity of data collected from the monitoring of backfilling operations and backfill movement at a range of open cast coal sites located within the UK has given the authors a better understanding of how open cast backfills behave in terms of long-term creep settlement, collapse settlement and how these are effected by backfill scheduling. This knowledge has been encoded into a program running under Microsoft Windows that enables a user to make settlement predictions for a point, a given section or area or for the whole site. Differential settlements, critical to any development design, can also be determined between any two points taking into consideration the heterogeneous nature of open cast backfills. The program was tested with data from an open cast coal site in the UK. Compaction monitoring during the placement of the backfill material enabled a model of the backfill to be constructed taking into account backfill properties and scheduling. This model, taken as input into the program, enabled future backfill settlement predictions to be made. A comparison is given between these results and actual settlements obtained from a short-term settlement monitoring scheme.

Resource characterisation is critical for informed decisions in both strategic and operational space. The sources of information for resource characterisation are limited by: direct measurement of resource attributes, such as grades, rock-types, mineralogy, and are available only from sparse locations, ie drill holes; or indirect geophysical measurements such as seismic, gravity or electro[1]magnetic survey. Data collection tools, methods, and processing technologies are constantly improving providing a broad spectrum of options for data collection strategies. The cost of each data survey varies from thousands to millions of dollars with the value of each additional data having diminishing return for a particular business decision. The value of information analysis provides the optimal decision on data collection strategy within a limited available budget. This work presents an example of value of information analysis for new Blast Hole Assay Tool (BHAT) and Reverse Circulation Grade Control (RCGC) data used in addition to the wider spaced exploration data. The value of information is quantified in terms of reduction of grade uncertainty, ore loss and dilution by comparing different combinations of data collection methods. Four different strategies were considered: exploration samples in addition to 50 per cent of blastholes surveyed with BHAT, exploration samples in addition to 33 per cent of blastholes surveyed with BHAT, exploration with wide-spaced RCGC data, and exploration without additional grade control. For each strategy the observed values have been simulated using advanced multivariate geostatistical simulations and compared with simulated ground truth models. The calculated uncertainty, ore loss and dilution informed the optimal data collection strategy. Opportunity to reduce sample density from the nominal 50 per cent of drill holes was evaluated.

Mt Keith concentrator treats low grade disseminated nickel sulfide ore supplied from the adjoining open pit mine. It is a traditional crushing, two-staged closed circuit grinding circuit (SAG & Ball Mills), followed by a complex split-size rougher, scavenger and cleaner flotation circuit. In 2016, 10.5 Mt was milled, at an average head grade of 0.54% Ni, yielding 35 000 nickel metal tonnes in concentrate.Historical analysis of the plant data indicated that of all the nickel lost in the fines rougher circuit tails stream, 25.6% was recoverable in an eight minute laboratory scale flotation test. These results implied that this fine nickel was readily available for recovery in the plant, either through operational improvements or additional flotation capacity. With operation optimisation ongoing, and capital within the business focused elsewhere, plant personnel were challenged to think differently about improving recovery.In 2012, a separate project to improve plant recovery when treating high talc ore was completed. Amongst other vessels, this project saw the installation of two 150 m3 Outotec Cells to the scavenger section of the fines rougher, middlings and scavengers (RMS 1) circuit. Since installation, the operation of these cells resulted in difficulties immediately upstream with instability in the scavenger cells. It was therefore decided that these cells would be better suited to treating the fines rougher circuit tails.The alterations required to divert these flows were minimal, with the capital project totalling $220 000.In the two years since installation, the fines rougher tailings nickel grade has dropped by 9.9%. The scavenger circuit has also seen a 2.8% reduction in tailings nickel grade, and instability issues were immediately resolved. This project serves as a lesson in how existing plant infrastructure may be better utilised to maximise recovery. Although this is especially applicable when capital constrained, such re-appropriation can be considered at any point to maximise return on existing assets. CITATION:Hussey, L, 2017. Grinding circuits are known to be the highest consumer of energy used in the ore comminution process, with high operational costs and sensitivity to ore conditions. The mining industry is being encouraged to look for more energy efficient processes while increasing the mass and metallurgical recovery; a specific example is projects with lower iron ore grades, which demands a higher level of liberation and resulting higher energy consumption. This has led to increased usage of high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) technology as an alternative design within the comminution circuit. A growing use of the HRC™ HPGR technology has been used to generate concentrate through a more sustainable process. In the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, the readaptation of iron ore beneficiation circuits has been initiated, replacing the traditional crushing-to-grinding flow sheet with circuits using crushing-to-HPGR flow sheets, with the main driver being reduced energy consumption. Utilising results from sampling campaigns and analysis of experimental data collected in an industrial plant, the work herein presents a case study from the JMN Mineração operating plant, where the HRC™ HPGR was used as an alternative to traditional grinding using horizontal mills. The results show that the HRC™ HPGR performance in this iron ore processing plant showed benefits in terms of reduced energy consumption as compared to the projected performance with a traditional grinding circuit.

Henty Gold Mine is an underground operation producing 100 000 ounces of gold per annum. The original mining method used was flatbacking with paste fill. However, a non-entry method û uphole benching û was introduced in 1998 to recover the deteriorating crown pillars. Initial challenges were encountered, including poor drilling accuracy, difficulty in charging holes and poor rise performance. These challenges were overcome by a Continuous Improvement Team, consisting of mining engineers, supervisors and miners. Following this, the Team implemented further changes aimed at reducing ore loss and dilution. A second area addressed by the Team was development blasting, where innovative detonator technology known as the ExelTM DevelDetTM was introduced and rapidly accepted by the operators. Continued use of the ExelTM DevelDetTM resulted in a number of benefits, such as easier bogging, less perimeter damage, faster charging and hook-up and decreased wastage. Finally, improvements were made in the area of explosive handling, where competency-based training of operators was conducted and manual handling of ANFO has been significantly reduced by the introduction of the MiniMoverTM into the underground magazine.

A model for predicting dust plume dispersion from blasting operations using the Eulerian mathematical algorithm has been developed. This model considers atmospheric stability, and wind velocity and direction for computing dust concentrations at different distances from the blast. Software has been developed which simulates the movement of a dust plume at a given horizontal distance from the blast location and time elapsed after the blast. The concentration of dust is also given in vertical planes. It takes into account ground profile and atmospheric conditions such as temperature, pressure, humidity, wind velocity, wind direction and shear. Experiments were carried out in two limestone mines to calibrate the accuracy of the predictions made by such model. High volume dust samplers were used to collect dust samples. Difficulties encountered in satisfactory dust sampling and quantification of results have been described.

This paper demonstrates an application of a recently developed Risk-Cost-Benefit (RCB) Framework to environmental risk management in the mining industry. The environmental application of the RCB Framework as part of an ACARP project (Kizil, Bye and Joy, 2012) involved a thorough selection process with site visits and in-depth discussions with the case study siteÆs environmental management team. Under their guidance, the highest risk of environmental impact at the case study site was identified as æroad subsidenceÆ at the time when the project work was undertaken. This paper presents the unique application of the RCB Framework to examine the risk of mining-induced subsidence and its impact on one of AustraliaÆs busiest highways, with a traffic volume of 38 000 vehicles per day (NSW RTA AADT, 2008). The RCB Framework was employed to assess the optimum group of controls for road subsidence risk management to ensure highway availability while mining occurs. Whilst this paper focuses on road subsidence, the methodology employed can be directly applied to other environmental concerns including preparation for mine closure, rehabilitation planning and waste management. The RCB Framework incorporates mathematical modules which were developed to enable complex yet tightly integrated RCB calculations. The process integrates the risk-control effectiveness assessment to determine that the selected safety initiative is financially beneficial to the mine site and company. This concept has been applied to a number of high-risk mining areas targeting safety, productivity and environmental issues. This paper introduces the five-staged RCB Framework, incorporating the RCB tools RCBGEN (Risk-Cost-Benefit Generator) and RCEMETHOD (Risk-Control-Effectiveness Method), and demonstrates its practical application to the risk management of a road subsidence case study. The case study looks at potential pavement damages, in particular, the occurrence of pavement stepping on the surface of the highway as a result of vertical subsidence. This type of road damage was previously experienced at another major inter-city route while underground mining occurred in the region where the case study site is located. The RCB Framework has been successfully applied to the analysis of the road subsidence case study and determined the risk reduction and financial benefits of implementing a range of risk-controls. User-friendly RCB Charts to provide an aid for decision-making were produced. The value of using the RCB charts to achieve balance between risk, cost and productivity in the decision-making process for risk management has been explained. The case study determined that pavement slots and fibre-optic cable monitoring were relatively low-cost and effective controls applied in the mining industry for the first time at a global level.This paper supports the industryÆs ongoing efforts to manage risk to ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) and achieve æzero harmÆ by providing a new Framework to more effectively establish the adequacy of controls.CITATION:Kizil, G V, Bye, A and Joy, J, 2012. Benchmark practices in the mining industry include the establishment of Quality Programs — Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC) — to monitor the correct execution of sampling protocols and control each stage of the ‘Sample Cycle’: Sample Collection, Preparation (comminution) and Analysis. QAQC reports commonly include statistical-numerical results that quantify performance of QAQC controls (field duplicates, preparation duplicates, blanks, standards etc). Graphics such as scatter plots, QQ plots, histograms and cumulative frequencies are used to represent the results. Statistical values including relative difference, absolute difference, relative variance, averages, T-test, and Zscores are used to quantitatively express the relationship between duplicate pairs ... but is an effective quality program just a statistical exercise? This paper aims to highlight the concept of ‘Quality Management’ (QM) as the precursor of continuous monitoring (ideally in real time) of QAQC results on Exploration, Production, Processing and Port samples, determined by trend analysis performed on a time and/or grades basis. Currently, there is a paradigm in the process of quality assurance that if individual data points fall within a predetermined acceptance limit then they are ‘acceptable’ and therefore suitable for informing operational and investment decisions. However, what is stated with respect to QM is that sometimes results found within the acceptance limits can indeed be internally biased, or show material deviations over a period of time, thereby impacting reconciliation results and/or potentially creating discrepancies with the final buyers. QM refers to the proactive detection of these ‘anomalous tendencies’, the approach and communication with the source of the information, the understanding of the reasons that cause the deficiencies, and the generation of agreed action plans to remediate the situation and ensure the consistency of results, in other words: continuous improvement on proactive manners.

Rio Tinto’s Hunter Valley Operations is a large open pit coalmine situated in the heart of the Hunter Valley in Australia. The Riverview West Pit has faced increasing production challenges in recent times due to decreasing dragline strike lengths and increasing environmental constraints on vibration, overpressure and fume generation. Conventional mining techniques would involve five to six production blasts per strip to recover multiple coal seams. Each blast event carries the risk of exceeding the strict environmental requirements. By working collaboratively with Orica, it was realised that the blasting method known as Stratablast™, in conjunction with advanced computer modelling techniques, could provide productivity gains whilst simultaneously providing more control over the environmental effects and the impact on nearby infrastructure.As a result of this change, the number of blasts per strip was reduced to one, with the implication that a great deal of care and forethought was needed to manage the increased challenge posed by multiple constraints in the proposed mining area. This innovative approach of combining throw and stand-up blasts allowed the extraction of all major coal seams in a single pass blast event. The blasts were initially designed with a large factor of safety to stay within environmental limits as they were over 1.1 km in strike length, with more than 800 holes and with a total charge weight of about 1000 t of bulk explosives. Furthermore, there were conflicting priorities around the desired blast outcomes. So far, 11 such blasts have been designed and successfully fired. After each blast, innovative design changes have been iteratively implemented to provide further control over environmental impacts, whilst continuing to improve productivity. As a result of these changes, blasts have progressively increased in complexity with the inclusion of features such as damage zones, mid-splitting, time gaps and different directions of firing. The consequence of this complexity is that the blast duration can be as long as 28 seconds to accommodate all components of the blast.This project has increased the productivity of the Riverview West Pit through blast design improvements and allowed the environmental impacts to be managed with far more control and predictability than would have been possible under a conventional blasting regime. To substantially reduce, if not eliminate, carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions from ironmaking it is necessary to convert from blast furnace (BF) ironmaking using coking coal as the reductant to direct reduction (DR) ironmaking using hydrogen (H₂) and green electricity. Currently, almost all natural gas (NG) based direct reduced iron (DRI) production utilises iron oxide pellets in shaft furnaces, as opposed to fines in fluidised beds. Also, these pellets are ordinarily produced from high-grade magnetite concentrate, rather than hematite and goethite with typically higher gangue contents. The use of high-grade magnetite concentrate is driven by the preference to melt DRI in conventional electric arc furnaces (EAFs), thereby avoiding the basic oxygen furnace (BOF) for making crude steel (CS). However, in replacing BF with DR ironmaking it is not economically feasible to source enough high-grade magnetite to replace the lower grade hematite and goethite currently consumed. That is not to say that hematite and goethite, or even low-grade magnetite, cannot be used in DR ironmaking. However, their higher gangue content, resulting in higher slag production, requires that the EAF producing CS be replaced with a submerged arc furnace (SAF) that will produce pig iron (PI) for the BOF as does the BF. Here, critical issues to be addressed are, what are the technicalities in replacing high-grade magnetite concentrate with hematite and goethite and NG with H₂ in DRI pellet production and melting? This paper summarises certain relevant published information on DRI pellet research, test work and production together with relevant information on Pilbara ores. It attempts to illustrate the inter- relationship of composition and processing conditions on DRI pellet properties. It is intended to serve as a rudimentary guide to understanding the complexities of formulation, testing, evaluation, production and goethite and offer insight into this challenge.

Mobile mining equipment presents only a small portion (ten per cent mining project costs but the selected technology will determine to a large extent the mining performance and mine profitability. The actual performance of the selected mobile equipment technology will rely on the support functions, infrastructure, user interface and user acceptance. Optimising the technology to match the circumstances is an increasingly important phase in a mine feasibility study. Smartly done feasibility studies include the possible future needs of changing or building-up of the selected technology. In massive mining applications the machinery faces quite different challenges than in selective or small-scale mining applications. In massive mining applications the efficient and continuous move of large amounts of material has led to the use of increasing degree of automation. This higher degree of automation in a mining application, on the other hand, will be best applied to a smooth and streamlined mining process and operation. Mining methods like block caving support automated operation. Automated mobile equipment needs supportive infrastructure, monitoring and information transfer systems as well as well established working procedures. Too often the user interface and human factor is disregarded during the consideration of automation. Through the available supplier programming tools it is possible to see how much the selected technology provides flexibility in changing production or economical situations, when major rebuilds or replacements are necessary, and view the effects of all these on the mine economy. When adequate technology is available from various sources, the difference becomes from preparing for the future, managing costs and combining the best layout with the most suitable technological solutions.

Mining project developers are committed to taking on all the challenges and obligations of financial risk management. It is interesting that our current models of project finance have not changed markedly in principle for some 700 years, yet the rules which prepare the way for effective project assessment and subsequent loan management still do not seem to be well understood by project or corporate developers. Probability and gravity fill the opposing trays of the golden balance of financial risk. Understanding the relationship between these opposing, but intimately related elements is critically important for successful risk management. It is important to move beyond the qualitative approach and use quantitative methodologies to measure the financial impact of the occurrence of each major risk. We live in a world where the only constant is change and thus it is not surprising that a bankerÆs life is still governed by assessing, measuring and pricing risk. Banks are attracted to funding well managed companies with strong cash flow projects. But we are more risk averse compared with the credit appetites of late last century. This attitudinal shift has resulted in tougher term sheets for the early 21st century, encompassing more conditions, warranties, undertakings and stronger cash sweep provisions. Banks require well balanced portfolios to achieve an acceptable spread of risk, thus there is a more restricted market for small company lending than that available to large multi-project corporate entities with less concentrated risk profiles. Because of this focus, junior company debt finance remains comparatively expensive and especially so for more challenging geographical and political environments.

"In the 1990s metal prices were trending in a long-term decline and the usual cost-cutting exercises were adopted. Cuts to research and development made innovation difficult and the outlook was grim. But necessity is a strong motivator, and these conditions spurred the Mine to Mill movement that optimised across organisational ‘silos’ and utilised new technology tools, innovative software and increased computing power. Many applications of Mine to Mill exploited the fact that comminution is usually the site processing bottleneck and blasting is more efficient at breaking rock than grinding. This approach sought to: understand and characterise rock breakage from mining to the milldevelop models and simulators for blast design, fragmentation, crusher and mill circuitsdevelop tools to measure in real time the particle size distribution of rocks on run-of-mine (ROM) muck piles, at the primary crusher truck dump pocket and on conveyorsensure effective communication across the silos between geologists, blast design engineers, mining engineers and metallurgists.These methods and the technology tools available in the 1990s were widely adopted at numerous sites around the world with significant benefits. Semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill throughput increases of 10–20 per cent were common. This was the advance the industry desperately needed. It was low capital cost; it was obvious. It was here to stay.Except, in too many cases, it didn’t. In the minerals price boom of the 2000s Mine to Mill was no longer necessary to ‘survive’, even though it was still good business. Some operations, including some of the early success stories, slipped back to old habits of optimising within organisation silos instead of across them. Fortunately, other operators still embraced Mine to Mill and developed new techniques. Mine to Mill was still successful, but not as widely adopted as we had expected it to be. Now the boom has ended and operations are again under cost pressure. Since these are the same circumstances that created Mine to Mill, it seems time to achieve the wider adoption. Since the 1990s many new or advanced technology tools are now available for Mine to Mill projects: blasthole sensors, new explosives formulations, new blasting techniques and modelling, ore tracking devices, improved image analysis to determine size, texture and colour of coarse ore, grade sensors, whole-stream simulation tools, and even more powerful computing hardware and data analysis software. As Australia’s coal and iron ore export volumes increase to meet international market growth, port terminals, mining operations and rail transport systems can be the source of increased dust emission. Current and future sustainable expansion must minimise dust emission from bulk handling and transport operations located in close proximity to residential areas. Lower level dust emissions can be controlled by operational measures such as water addition to products, and use of water spray on stockpile surfaces. Recent research has shown that higher levels of dust emission can be more effectively controlled by understanding and treating the dust characteristics of each individual bulk product. Application of this research, progressively being applied at Australia’s coal and iron ore port terminals and rail transport systems, is achieving compliance with health standards and minimising dust nuisance effects to an acceptable level.

Quality control (QC) of reverse circulation drill sampling commonly involves regular duplicate subsampling to monitor the extent of imprecision or random error in the subsampling system. An Australian Working Group has been compiling a guide for operators to use in order to improve the efficacy of their routine and non-routine sampling tasks within their coal preparation process. The guide focuses on unit operations within the process, and not conveyor belts or transfer stations that are adequately covered by the existing Standard ISO 13909.Representative sampling of unit operations is generally an after-thought following plant construction, whether that be a result of oversight, or more commonly, capital cost minimisation during initial construction. Minimising capital cost by avoiding adequate sampling systems is generally a poor decision, since the result is a process that cannot be adequately measured, meaning that it cannot be adequately managed and optimised.The use of the term ‘guide’ rather than ‘standard’ is intentional. Practical means of sampling unit operations within existing plants generally relies on a compromise between sample representativity (minimisation of bias) and sampling feasibility. The guide does not endorse poor sampling practice, but instead offers practical guidance to overcome, to the extent reasonably possible, real-life limitations.When it comes to sampling any particular process, it is almost always necessary to make a professional judgement as to whether or not the proposed samples are likely to be sufficiently representative such that the sampling will be worthwhile. Such judgement needs to be exercised by personnel who understand the principles of sampling, as they apply to the stream being sampled. There are many circumstances where available methods for sampling of a particular stream will be meaningless, and in such circumstances analytical data from that sampling will only serve to propagate poor decision-making.This paper outlines the approach for the guide, the areas it covers and the approaches adopted for different types of unit operations and associated equipment configurations.CITATION:Atkinson, B W and Docherty, J, 2017. The Rosedale Outfall Project utilised an earth pressure balance (EPB) tunnel boring machine (TBM) for only the second time in Auckland. Although the tunnel was excavated fully through East Coast Bays Formation (ECBF), the downhill gradient along with some unexpected areas of extreme water posed some significant challenges during construction.The Rosedale Waste Water Treatment Plant Outfall Tunnel project was commissioned in response to the growing needs of North Shore City, New Zealand. The outfall tunnel comprises a 3 km long segmentally lined tunnel and a 2.1 km buried marine pipeline, and discharges 2.7 km offshore. The capacity of the new outfall is 6 m3/s compared to the existing outfall capacity of 1 m3/s.Following previous project experience, and with the tunnel located along its full length in the bedrock weak sandstone/siltstone bedrock of the East Coast Bays Formation, tunnelling conditions were expected to be benign. However during construction six high inflow events were encountered, including a full face (3.4 m diameter) of Albany Conglomerate over a 48 m length of tunnel. This material comprised cobbles in an uncemented sand matrix, and inflows were recorded at over 25 L/s.This paper describes the design challenges on the project including the design of a steel fibre reinforced segmental lining for internal pressures. The specification of the machine is discussed including the modifications required to enhance the risk mitigation measures already in place. The ground conditions encountered are discussed and have improved the knowledge of the range of conditions that can be expected in Auckland.Despite the challenges presented during construction, excellent progress rates were achieved and the tunnelling was successfully completed ahead of program.

"Since the adoption of open-door policy 30 years ago, rapid economic growth has resulted in serious resource depletion and environmental destruction, especially in mining areas. As an urgent response to this situation, the central government and the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) have adjusted policies with concrete and realistic actions for halting this trend of non-sustainable mining activities in China. æGreen Mine CampaignÆ is one of the actions implemented. In 2010, MLR announced the æGreen Mine CampaignÆ, in which existing and new mines will be evaluated against the æGreen Mine Construction StandardsÆ and certified as æGreen MineÆ if complying with these standards. The standards cover five key aspects: the considerations of science-supported resource exploitation efficient resource utilisation standardised management environmental friendliness harmonious community relationship.Every year, MLR reviews ægreen minesÆ from all provinces. Thirty seven mines, including coal, metal, non-metal, gold, chemical industry and building materials mines, passed the review and were certified as green mines in 2010. In 2011, 187 out of 194 mines that participated in the review were certified as ægreen minesÆ.
