High horizontal stresses and shear failure have been considered the major reasons that cause entry roof failure and falls for underground mining. Therefore, reorientation of the current mining systems or layouts or using angular crosscuts in mains or gate entries becomes more popular if a greater than normal horizontal stress is measured. However, reorientation of the current mining systems or layouts is always expensive and use of the angular crosscuts may weaken the pillar structure at corners. Therefore, cautions must be taken before any decision related to reorientation of the current mining systems or layouts or use of angular crosscuts is going to be made. In order to prevent entry roof failure and falls, the following two issues must be carefully examined and fully understood: 1. Which one, shear stress or tensile stress, is going to be blamed for entry roof failure? 2. Which one, horizontal stress, vertical stress, or local geological weakness plays a major role in entry roof failure and falls? This paper analyzes the mechanisms of entry roof failure and falls for underground mining in general examines the roof fall history at Springvale Colliery, and proposes the means of preventing roof failure and controlling roof falls for Spingvale Colliery in particular.

The introduction of roof bolts to Phalen Colliery in the Sydney Coalfield, Nova Scotia (annual output of 2Mt) has been successfully implemented in maingate and tailgate entries over the last four years. Monitoring of the roof bolted areas continues to be an integral part of the quality control program as the results are utilized to maintain safety and to aid in long-term design strategies. Although all gateroads in the Phalen Colliery have converted to roof bolts as their primary means of support, the majority of intersections which intersect the main slopes remain supported by large steel structures. Several intersections within the Phalen Colliery were monitored as they were created by the mining process. A comparison is made between intersections supported with only traditional 6.4 to 6.7 m steel structure and intersections supported by 2.44 m fully resin encapsulated roof bolts in conjunction with 7.6 m fully cement grouted cable bolts. Detailed monitoring was conducted using CA NM ET's intrinsically safe sonic probe extensometer datalogger which has the ability to read up to sixteen probes simultaneously at programmed intervals. The density of the data from the datalogger has allowed a better understanding of the deformation of cable bolted intersections than was possible with manual monitoring. Test results have helped mine operators to design safer cable bolted intersections.

Sishen Iron Ore Mine is situated 280 km north-west of Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The mine produces and sells high quality iron ore of various specifications to various national and international clients. The saleable product is derived from the blending and beneficiation of different types and qualities of hematite iron ore. This paper documents the new developments which were implemented (or are in the process of being implemented) on the mine in the long-term planning, medium-term planning, grade control and material tracking in the beneficiation plant with special attention being paid to the quality of the final, saleable product. The process starts with the long-term planning where the pit shell and pit optimization is determined by Whittle 4X. New developments include the introduction of a linear programming based scheduling system to enhance the long-term schedule generated by Whittle 4X. The LP route was decided on in order to take into account all the constraining factors of the final product that could not be configured in Whittle. To complement this the XPAC Auto Scheduler scheduling package was introduced to do the medium-term mine scheduling. This 18-month rolling plan includes cost parameters to enable the planner to extract a detailed operational budget from the scheduling while ensuring that production standards are maintained and grade constraints are met. The existing grade control system was enhanced with GPS capabilities and a computer system to do material tracking. The high precision GPS system introduced on the shovels allows for the accurate control of the loading procedures at the mining face. Because of the complicated geology and grade composition of blasting blocks it is imperative to accurately differentiate between different materials in the same blasting block and being able to excavate that with the loading equipment. The GPS system on the trucks allows for accurate location monitoring of dumping in order to keep track of specific material types. The state-of-the-art material tracking system developed for Sishen will enable the grade control officer to keep track and record various parameters of the material from its in situ position in the blasting blocks, through the crusher and onto different stockpiles, in various stages of the beneficiation process and onto the blending beds, into the dispatching trains and eventually into the ships for international distribution. These developments elevate the Sishen planning and grade control systems to a new level of service excellence from which management can obtain accurate and timely information on product status. It also enables Sishen to maximize resource utilization while still complying with the tough market constraints.

THE metallurgical industry has purchased more than sixty per cent of the industrial gas cleaning equipment installed in Canada. This includes cyclonic collectors, scrubbers, cloth filters and Cottrell Precipitators. These are the principal types of equipment which are used commercially for the cleaning of gases which result from the processing of iron, nickel, copper, lead, zinc, gold, gypsum and aluminum ores. The recovered dust, which usually contains metal values, is returned to the process. The cost of the equipment is thus economically justified. This is in contrast to other industries, such as those involving steam power generation, asbestos, cement and lime production, where, though dust collection equipment is extensively used, it is installed primarily for nuisance abatement. Communities are becoming more and more conscious of air pollution, new and more stringent legislation is being enacted, and, for other than economic reasons the smelting industry will eventually be required to install more efficient gas cleaning equipment. Minerals have been critical to human society from the earliest and their use has been intertwined with the development of civilization. In the Western World, the mining, processing and extractive metallurgy associated with ores was first described in detail by Agricola in the 16th century. He considered these collective activities to be the most necessary and the most profitable of professions, and wrote, "without doubt, none of the arts is older than agriculture, but that of the metals is not less ancient; in fact they are at least equal and coeval, for no mortal man ever tilled a field without implements. In truth, in all works of agriculture, as in the other arts, implements are used which are made from metals, or which could not be made without the use of metals; for this reason the metals are of the greatest necessity to man." Ours is still a materials-dependent society that relies heavily on minerals for raw materials. Today our dependence on minerals is exceptionally great. To meet the need for fuel and non-fuel minerals in a representative year, in the United States alone, about one billion tons of coal and 2.7 billion tons of ore are mined. These mineral products are essential for fertilizers, for construction materials, metals and alloys, for manufacturing household and industrial items, for transportation, and for the generation of electric power. It is instructive to consider the diversity of uses found in our society for a single mineral product - silver, for example. Experts believe that in the past 5000 years we have mined about a million tons, or 31.9 billion troy ounces of silver. In 1988, 133 million troy ounces of silver were used in the Unites States. Most of the silver used was for techno- logical, medicinal and industrial purposes, Table 1. X-ray films, for example, carry comparatively large amounts of silver to lessen patient's radiation exposure. Silver does not prevent tooth decay, but each year about two million troy ounces of silver is used for dental work in the United States. In small quantities it is used in medicine. No metal - not even copper conducts heat and electricity so efficiently as silver. Silver wires lace solar cells, and silver oxide batteries power hearing aids, calculators, submarines and satellites. Hardened with tungsten or molybdenum, miniature discs of silver pass current from wire to wire in cars, telephones and computers. A dish- washer timer alone may have 50 such electrical contacts, which open and close without excessive heat or friction. Silver is an important component of solar reflectors, since no other material reflects light so well or uniformly. In our personal lives, silver remains in high esteem to adorn our tables, provide precious objects and jewelry. In many parts of the world, silver in the form of coins, jewelry and bullion is used for financial independence and security against the vagaries of paper currency. In India, silver is used in its purest form as thin foils to decorate sweets and other edibles. It is obvious that this mineral product, silver, is of great value and utility in our society. Minerals and Environment The benefits of minerals do not come without problems. Much of the silver, for example, lies locked up in copper, lead-zinc or precious metal ores; to extract it creates vast quantities of waste material. On the average, in order to recover one ounce of silver about a quarter ton of ore must be mined. To meet the world's annual demand for silver, approximately 100 million tons of waste is generated every Year. The problem with silver is repeated with all minerals. Conversion of mineral ores into usable materials necessitates the generation of large quantities of waste products that create tremendous disposal problems. In addition to waste material discarded during mining, wastes may be generated during processing as gases, liquids or solids that must be subsequently converted into forms more acceptable for disposal. Mining heritage can be of outstanding value for many regions around the world, because mining has been done for thousands of years for the benefit of mankind and its development. This paper presents an ongoing project creating a general guideline for the handling of mining heritage on the basis of experiences made in Germany. Interactions of stakeholders in the ?heritage network? as well as strategies for the technical proceeding will be described. An action plan for the sustainable handling of mining heritage has already been developed in part, which includes necessary measures. Best-practice recommendations will be derived. Keywords: Pyrometallurgy, furnace, sulphur, SO2, off-gas, Zimplats Zimplats embarked on an off-gas sampling campaign in December 2009 to characterise the concentration of SO2 in the off-gas from their 13 MW furnace. In excess of forty isokinetic samples (US EPA Method 8) were taken over seven days. The aim of the sampling campaign was to increase the understanding of factors that influence sulphur release from sulphide concentrates in an electric furnace. Specifically, detailed monitoring was conducted over various operating conditions to evaluate: ? The relationship between SO2 and feed rate (i.e. furnace power) ? The relationship between SO2 and ingress (i.e. furnace freeboard pressure) ? The impact of concentrate bed thickness on SO2 (i.e. blacktop) ? The effect of events such as tapping and converter slag return on SO2 ? The desulphurization reactions that take place in the blacktop A model was developed to predict the SO2 content in furnace off-gas for a particular set of operating conditions. In order to evaluate the impact of random, uncorrelated changes in concentrate composition, ingress and power (feed rate) on the SO2 content of the off-gas, a Monte Carlo approach was adopted whereby concentrate composition, power, and ingress were allowed to vary randomly around selected set-points. The model is primarily based on the release of ?labile? sulphur from the partial thermal dissociation of sulphide minerals with an over-stoichiometric sulphur content (e.g., Fe7S8 decomposition to FeS and S). The main findings of this work suggest that labile sulphur does not fully account for the measured SO2 content of the off-gas, and that limited oxidation of sulphides during melting also contributes to the SO2 content. Details of sulphide oxidation reactions in the furnace remain unclear, and it is currently not possible to provide a theoretical framework for the relationship between the extent of oxidation and variables such as temperature, gas composition, particle size, and residence time in the furnace black top. Through the use of the Monte Carlo model it was, however, possible to constrain the extent of sulphide oxidation to about 1%. This work has shown in practice what was expected in concept, that SO2 in off-gas is proportional to furnace power and ingress rate. The model that was developed consistently slightly under-predicts the quantity of SO2 generated. It also highlights that more work is required to better understand the analytical methods used to analyse for SO2 in off-gas.

The charter of this investigation was to identify and promote the application of noise control technology to future longwall mining machinery. Intensive noise and vibration data were acquired on a typical longwall shearing machine, and the highest noise levels were shown to radiate from the cutter drums. Shearing machine cutter drum noise control techniques that take advantage of the nature of the dynamic forces generated during coal cutting were developed. These include both structural redesign and force isolation techniques. A reduced noise cutter drum was developed that achieved a 5 to 6 dBA system noise reduction at the operator's position. Its operational performance was verified by a six-month long in-mine test. It was evident from the data that additional noise reduction could be achieved by treatment of the shearing machine hydraulics. Noise control of secondary sources was also investigated. A method of reducing full or empty stage conveyor noise (and continuous miner conveyor noise) by 5 to 10 dBA was demonstrated through isolation techniques. Underground mine durability testing, however, is yet to be demonstrated.

"Mohawk Garnet has been operating a small pilot plant near Sudbury, Ontario for several years attempting to produce commercially viable garnet. The challenges of operating a pilot scale mining, processing, and product handling operation as a full time plant have led Mohawk Garnet to seek a better way. In co-operation with Mohawk Garnet, Outotec (USA) Inc. has taken on the technical and design challenges of increasing garnet product from twenty tonnes per day to two hundred tonnes per day.Outotec performed a comprehensive test and flowsheet development program applying Outotec’s density separators, spirals, flotation, and other technologies to design a successful process for the separation and recovery of the valuable garnet for Mohawk.This paper explores the test program, the process flowsheet development work, plant design and preliminary engineering of a new garnet processing. The various technical challenges, process technologies involved, and design concepts will be discussed.INTRODUCTIONMohawk garnet has been operating a small-scale garnet mine and process plant in Wahnapitae, Ontario near Sudbury.The current operation was intended to be a pilot plant and so only produces 20-25 tonnes of garnet concentrate per day. The garnet is bagged and sold for use as abrasive. The process is inefficient with low yields, poor material handling and very high cost per tonne. Mohawk garnet approached Outotec to help them improve their garnet process and transform themselves into a larger scale and more efficient operation."

Pre-splitting was substituted for line drilling to achieve stable rock slopes and reduce excavation beyond the pay line on a Connecticut highway project in 1962-63. Changes have occurred in developing rock slopes that were not foreseen by Alan Bauer and Jim Scott who in the early days understood the relationship of explosive energy to stable slopes. Cushion blasting as currently used produces slopes designed to blend or complement the natural landscape with slope holes detonated after the main body of holes. Pre-splitting is the opposite. The best results have been achieved by detonating the pre-split line of the holes first to allow readjustment of the slope plane fracture and a separate blast for the main body of loaded holes.

Economic conditions after WorId War II made the recovery of Australian sources of sulphur one of considerable national importance. From 1947 to 1949 an investigation was made of recirculation techniques to produce acid plant grade gas from the Dwight-Lloyd down-draught sintering plant.During 1949 it appeared feasible to produce a gas of suitable 802 concentration and a decision was made to construct a gas purification train and a 150 tons/day contact acid plant. However, a number of difficulties remained in the production of the gases for sulphuric acid manufacture and as a result of research conducted to overcome these troubles the continuous up-draught sintering process was developed.The principal difficulties were:(a:) The down-draught sintering practice, as developed, produced an unusually high metallic lead precipitation in the windboxes. Introduction The recent uranium discovery at Theano point, lake Superior, is probably a rediscovery of the first reported Canadian uranium occurrence. A description of material from the original discovery was published in 1847 by J. L. LeConte, and many attempts have been made to relocate the deposit. Such attempts have in the past been unsuccessful because of vagueness in the original description of the locality. Besides being a prospect that seems to merit development work, the Camray discovery is important because it reaffirms the occurrence of pitchblende in the eastern part of the Precambrian shield. Much staking followed the announcement of the discovery, and some additional finds have been reported. Location The Camray discovery is at the shore of Theano point, lake Superior, about seventy miles north of Sault Ste. Marie (see Figure 1). It is in township 29, range XIV, district of Algoma. The showing is two miles from Highway No. 17, and is reached by a rough trail that leaves the highway at mileage 72.9 from Sault Ste. Marie. There are no towns of any size nearer than Sault Ste. Marie.

"The weathering of coal mine waste rock releases iron, calcium, sulfate and associated trace elements like selenium (Se). Nitrogen species are also found in association with coal-mining drainages mainly due to the leaching of residual blasting compounds. Elevated concentrations of Se are a ubiquitous occurrence in coal-mining environments in British Columbia. A major concern with waterborne Se in British Columbia is the potential for its bioaccumulation in aquatic food chains.Treatment to remove Se from coal-mining waste waters has proven to be challenging for conventional water-treatment technologies. Compounding this challenge, many streams are characterized by high flows and low selenium concentrations. Conventional membrane and ion exchange treatments produce concentrated brine streams that are difficult to treat or require disposal. Conventional biotreatment systems use excess nutrients to provide the required electrons to compensate for inefficient and variable electron availability, as well as to adjust reactor chemistry.This paper's electro-biochemical reactor (EBR) technology provides a controllable and consistent supply of useable electrons to the microbes directly at a low voltage potential (1-3 V) and low current. In this manner, the EBR technology overcomes the shortcomings found in conventional systems, as it reduces the required nutrient addition and provides a more controllable, efficient, economical and robust biotreatment system. Additionally, the EBR process does not produce excess solids or biomass; therefore, solids management post-treatment is not required.Laboratory EBR bench-scale and on-site pilot-scale systems were used to treat five British Columbia coal-mine waste waters; influent Se concentrations ranged from 35 µg/L to 531 µg/L. Se treatment targets for the tested waters ranged from 5 to 10 µg/L. Mean Se concentrations in EBR effluents ranged from 0.5 µg/L to 1.4 µg/L, while reducing sulfate concentrations. The test data demonstrate that the EBR technology is an effective Se removal option for British Columbia’s coal-mining waste waters.IntroductionSelenium in Mining. Selenium (Se) is a naturally occurring trace element, which is an essential nutrient in small amounts (Thompson and Robinson, 1980; Brown and Arthur, 2001). However, it is also toxic to aquatic life, birds, and humans at very low concentrations. EVERY year it becomes more difficult to find new mining districts and new ore deposits. Nearly all of the important discoveries so far can be attributed to surface manifestations overlying the ore deposit. In the future greater skill will be necessary to find ore deposits that give little or no indication of their presence. Mining geology is making progress by broadening its attack upon mineralized regions, by including in its investigations studies of the relation of physical-chemical processes to ore precipitation and various phenomena that heretofore have not always been looked upon as major factors in the problems. Such, for example, are petrographic peculiarities that will help determine structure, aspects of strata or formations favorable or unfavorable to structural deformation or mineralization, and renewed studies of chert and dolomite. This broadening attack is not necessarily being directed to the study of large areas, but rather by doing extremely detailed work in three dimensions in relatively small critical areas to find the key to the structure, reasons for the manner of rock deformation, composition and texture of the rock, and other con¬trolling factors in the larger areas.

SINCE the "Days of Forty-nine" California has been the premier gold producing state of the union. The greatest production was recorded in 1.852, during which year the state's placer and lode deposits yielded over 81 millions. This peak was followed by a steady decline to about 12 millions during the years 1888 to 189.3, a period marked by the cessation of gravel mining. After 1893, production increased to a new peak of over 22 million in 1915, thereafter decreasing steadily to something over 13 million in 1923. Today; California's gold production shows a decrease of 84 per cent. as compared with the output of 1852, and a decrease of 41 per cent, as compared with 1915. It is not a difficult matter to find the causes of this more recent decline. In 1916 there began an upward swing in the cost of labor, which represents approximately 60 per cent. of the cost of mining, and in the price of supplies, representing the remaining, 40 per cent. This rise continued until 1922 and since that year there has been no decided tendency either upward or downward. The increase in the cost of mining since 1916 is variously estimated at from 50 to 75 per cent.; the price of gold has remained fixed at $20.67 per oz. This condition resulted in wiping out the profits of the low-grade operations which, in recent years, have constituted California's main source of supply of gold ore. It is now predicted that there will be renewed activity in California- gold mining. What are chances for the materialization of this forecast? A boom or even a revival of gold mining must of necessity be brought about or accompanied by one or more of the following factors: 1. A decrease in the cost of mining. 2. An increase in the price of gold. 3. New capital for development. 4. The discovery of new deposits. 5. The revival of hydraulic mining.

Subsidence may be observed above partial extraction shallow room-and-pillar mines where the coal seam(s) is associated with weak and thick claystone in the floor. This paper presents results of subsidence studies at such a mine. During the 26-month study period, a time dependent subsidence causing a maximum vertical movement of 50 mn was observed. After a subsidence rate of 6.0-6.5 m/month for the first two months after development of mine workings, the rate decreased to 0.8-0.9 mm/month after 17 months. However, presumably due to settlement of barrier pillars, it increased therafter to 1.7 mm/month for the next 9 months. Angle of draw, based on zero subsidence, was calculated to be about 29 degrees. Maximum tensile strain and compressive strain values observed were 0.040 pct and 0.039 pct respectively. A hypothesis was fomlated to correlate surface subsidence movements with observed underground movments. The data collected to date fits reasonably well within the formulated hypothesis.

"To date, several studies have been performed on the static mechanical properties of SLM-AlSi10Mg alloy. There have also been more recent studies on the relation between scan strategy, texture, and mechanical properties of SLM metals and composites. However, there is a huge knowledge gap in the available literature regarding texture and mechanical behavior of SLM-AlSi10Mg alloy under high strain rates. Therefore, in this study, dynamic mechanical behavior of AlSi10Mg_200C alloy manufactured by DMLS technique was investigated at high strain rates ranging from 900/s to 1700/s using Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar. Texture using X-ray diffraction technique of the initial samples were measured. The yield strength, peak flow stress, and ductility increased in all samples with increase of strain rate. TEM studies have also revealed evidence of continuous dynamic recrystallization in grains after 900/s–1700/s strain-rate tests. A Taylor polycrystal crystal plasticity constitutive model was then developed to capture and predict the texture evolution and mechanical response under dynamic loading, using plastic work as a critical parameter for the onset of recrystallization.INTRODUCTION Additive manufacturing (AM) powder techniques are among the fastest advancing breakthroughs in manufacturing in recent years, defined by a bottom-up layer by layer process of joining with energy input from lasers or electron beam (Herzog et al., 2016; Gibson et al., 2015). Among alloys fabricated by SLM, AlSi10Mg is of high interest to industry and academia due to its low density, high specific strength and excellent corrosion resistance, making this alloy a viable contender for aerospace, automotive, and marine applications. Circumstances such as car crash or bird aircraft strike hazards subject potential additively manufactured AlSi10Mg parts to impact loadings. This drives an interest in understanding and predicting dynamic behaviour of these alloys. AlSi10Mg is the AM counterpart of A360 die-cast aluminum, which possess hypoeutectic microstructure (Li et al., 2015). Up to the present time, many studies have presented the mechanical properties of SLM-AlSi10Mg alloy. The mechanical properties and microstructure of AlSi10Mg produced by selective laser melting (SLM) or DMLS techniques can be controlled using different parameters, such as feedstock powder (Asgari et al., 2017), and process parameters (Olakanmi et al., 2015). The microstructure and mechanical properties of AlSi10Mg can also be controlled using post heat treatment after SLM process Li et al., 2016). The mechanical properties of SLM-AlSi10Mg are sensitive to strain rate and can both change under quasi-static (Rosenthal et al., 2017) and high strain rates (Asgari et al., 2018). However, a significant knowledge gap in available literature regarding modeling these behaviours, and especially micromechanical modeling of dynamic behaviour."

"In this presentation, the SONARtrac™ technology platform will be described. CiDRA's proprietary clamp-on, passive sonar array-based flow meter technology performs two independent measurements – flow rate and fluid characterization. Firstly, the meter provides the volumetric flow rate of the mixture by measuring the speed at which naturally occurring turbulent structures convect with the flow past an axial array of sensors. Secondly, the meter uses similar sonar-based processing techniques and naturally occurring sound in the process fluid to measure entrained air levels. The result is a unique ability to measure the flow rate and entrained air level of most fluids – clean liquids, high solids content slurries, and liquids and slurries with entrained air.Also to be presented is the application of the sonar-based technology platform in a variety of oil sands processes, hydrotransport, and minerals beneficiation applications. In particular, difficult slurry flow measurement and control in the areas of comminution and flotation such as mill discharge, hydrocyclone feed/overflow, final concentrate, thickener discharge, and tailings will be discussed. In addition new real time maintenance free process measurement capability will be presented in the areas of entrained air in slurry, collection zone gas holdup (?g), and slurry velocity profiling. The operational advantages and value of these measurements, even in the presence of scale buildup, will be discussed.INTRODUCTIONFlow measurements in the mineral processing and oil sands industry suffer from the limitations placed by previously available flowmeters including the commonly used instruments such as ultrasonic meters, magmeters, turbine meters, orifice plate meters, vortex flow meters, Coriolis flow meters, and venturi meters. The desire or requirement to make a non-contact measurement that is accurate and robust, and can be performed on practically any type of fluid within practically any type of pipe has driven the creation of a new class of flowmeters. This new class of flowmeter technology utilizes sonar-based processing algorithms and an array of passive sensors to measure not only flow, but also fluid composition."

At the Prospectors and Developers Annual Convention (PDAC) in Toronto, Canada mining and exploration companies of all sizes were on hand to discuss the year that was and those that will be. The following is a look at some of the companies with Canadian operations that were on hand for PDAC 2009. Iamgold Corporation is a leading mid-tier gold mining company producing approximately 31 t (1 million oz) of gold from seven mines on three continents. With record revenues of $870 million ? up 28 percent when compared to 2007 ? the company is focused on growth with a target to reach 56 t (1.8 million oz) gold production by 2012. During 2008, the company acquired the Essakane project in West Africa. The project is fully permitted, under construction and will contribute more than 9.3 t (300,000 oz) of lower cost production by late 2008. Iamgold increased its reserves by 55 percent, to 385 t (12.4 million oz) and its resources in-creased by 16 percent to 821 t (26.4 million oz) in 2008. Going forward, Iamgold has three areas of focus ? West Africa, Guyana Shield and Quebec ? with seven gold operations, five advanced projects and the Niobec niobium mine included. The Rosebel Mine in Suriname is Iamgold?s fl agship property. With measured and indicated resources of 300 t (9.6 million oz), it accounts for 30 percent of Iamgold?s production. Production there was up 20 percent compared with 2007 and further production increases are expected in 2009 and 2010. Mill expansion and optimization increased throughput from 8.9 Mt/a (9.8 million st) to 10 Mt/a (11 million stpy). In West Africa, Iamgold has joint ventures at Sadiola in Mali; Tarkwa in Ghana; Yatela in Mali and Daman in Ghana. Iamgold also has 100 percent ownership of the Mupane gold mine in Botswana and the Doyon gold mine in Quebec, Canada. Also in Quebec, Iamgold has 100 per-cent ownership of the Niobec niobium mine in Quebec. Niobium is used in high strength specialty steels.
