Introduction Coal cleaning may be taken as meaning the separation of coal-as-mined into two or more fractions. Coal cleaning includes coal washing, together with any other means used in the ultimate preparation of coal prior to shipment (as coal) . The method of coal cleaning devised for any given mine must be one which is based entirely on the economic results obtainable. The installation of a high-cost and complex washing plant, designed to produce a low-ash dean coal, at the highest possible recovery, may be unsound practice. A crude 'roughing' washer may be the best result of sound engineering and operating consideration, and in some cases coal cleaning should be confined entirely to preparation at the face. Consideration of complete costs, to the point where the coal is actually sold, may show that certain seams are workable or not workable. Of the seams found workable, extraction of the whole or parts of the seam may be decided on. The portion to be extracted may contain rock or bone partings, which must be removed. It may be good practice to mine the extra portion and remove the objectionable materials by surface washing; or it may be that such materials should be removed underground, even at an increased mining cost. For instance, in some of the steeply pitching seams of the Alberta Crow's Nest Pass district, the removal of bone and rock at the face may be almost impossible under the usual 'up the pitch' or 'angle' mining methods, but possible by mining across the pitch so that the material to be rejected can be removed and gobbed. Again, if a complete seam is being extracted, investigation may show marked differences between top coal and bench coal, and if sufficient mine cars are being loaded from a chute at one time, the fact that such a place is working top or bench coal at the time may be reflected by peaks in ash content or size proportions at the ripple. It may be very effective coal preparation to smooth out such peaks.

"Instrumented rock bolts are effective tools for assessing the reinforcement and condition of immediate roofs; however, instrumentation can have relatively high costs, which can be justified by high reliability and repeatable and representative data measurements. The instrument’s durability and operational life are of great importance, along with accuracy, applicability, and usefulness. This paper develops reliability models for three instrumentation technologies used in slotted rebar, drawing data from studies at five underground coal mines. Three case studies demonstrate instrument applicability and usefulness. Finally, two types of instrumented rock bolts are used to determine the direction of bend and maximum bending strain. RÉSUMÉ Les boulons d’ancrage instrumentés sont des outils performants qui permettent d’évaluer la consolidation et la condition des toits immédiats. L’instrumentation peut cependant se révéler très onéreuse, des coûts qui se justifient par sa fiabilité élevée ainsi que par des mesures de données reproductibles et représentatives. La durabilité de l’instrument et sa durée de vie opérationnelle sont très importantes, de même que son exactitude, son applicabilité et son utilité. En s’appuyant sur des données issues d’études menées dans cinq mines de charbon souterraines, cet article développe des modèles de fiabilité pour trois technologies d’instrumentation utilisées pour des barres d’armature nervurées. Trois études de cas démontrent l’applicabilité de l’instrument et son utilité. Enfin, deux types de boulons d’ancrage instrumentés sont utilisés pour déterminer la direction de la flexion et la contrainte de flexion maximale.INTRODUCTION Using instrumented rock bolts to monitor strain changes in a rock bolt array allows engineers to understand the per-formance and effectiveness of the rock reinforcement system and the response of the rock mass to such support; however, instrumentation remains a niche solution for solving complex ground-control problems—particularly for underground coal mines, which is where they are needed most. From 2000 to 2016, fall-of-ground fatalities still accounted for an average of approximately 30% of the total annual underground coal mine fatalities in the United States alone (United States Department of Labor, 2018). These tools would also be useful for deep hard-rock mining conditions. The main reasons for the lack of widespread use are not only cost but also accuracy, applicability, implementation procedures, intrinsic permissibility, and reliability (Peng, 2015). As a result, measurements of coal mine roof behaviour using instrumented rock bolts are quite scarce, not widely published, or inadequately presented to provide a seamless understanding of a roof’s response to support."

The liability created by building this railway is the great financial problem before the people of British Columbia at the present time. In dealing with the subject, I propose to divide it into three periods: The Past - The Present - and The Future. The Past The primary objects in building the railway were to provide an independent and direct route for the Grand Trunk Pacific railway into the city of Vancouver, and to open the central and north-eastern portion of the province.. This vast territory, almost one-half the entire area of British Columbia, has great wealth in fruit, agricultural, and grazing lands; timber, coal, water-power and minerals of all kinds, including some of the richest placer deposits in the world. Rivers and lakes teem with fish. Big game, including moose, elk, caribou, deer, grizzly and black bear, mountain goat and sheep, is plentiful and there is an abundance of small game and fur-bearing animals. In addition, its scenic attractions are unsurpassed in Canada. To develop these resources it was considered necessary to build a railway from south to north as a main artery of transportation and, if necessary, branch lines to carry heavy .shipments of coal or other commodities. Lighter freight may be handled by motor trucks from distant points to the railway.

Automated scanning electron microscopy has been widely used in recent years for gold and other precious metals characterization. However, application of this technology is resource intensive and in most instances needs specialized technical personnel to process the samples and information. Newmont Metallurgical Services (NMS) has recently acquired an ASPEX SEM. The ASPEX SEM offers some significant benefits/improvements in sample preparation and sample processing time. NMS and ASPEX have been working together to develop an approach utilizing this technology for the minerals processing industry and specifically for gold characterization.

"Abstract-The Voisey’s Bay Ni-Cu-Co deposit was discovered in late 1994 as the result of prospecting initiated in the summer of 1993. By July 1995, proven mineable reserves were 31.7 x 106 tonnes grading 2.83% Ni, 1.68% Cu and 0.12% Co, and current total resources in all categories are quoted to be in the order of 150 X 106 tonnes. The deposit is associated with a body of troctolite belonging to the Nain Anorthosite (1.35 Ga - 1.29 Ga) suite, which was emplaced across the boundary between the Proterozoic "Rae" Province to the west and Archean "Nain" Province to the east.The deposit can be described in terms of three geological settings. The "Ovoid" is a 600 m long by 350 m wide by 100 m deep lens of massive sulfide, covered by 10 m to 20 m of glacial overburden, and separated from the underlying country rock quartz-plagioclase-biotite gneiss by a breccia of gneissic fragments in troctolite known as the Basal Breccia Sequence. To the west of the Ovoid lies the "Western Extension", comprising disseminated and massive sulfides in a north-dipping sheet of troctolite which ranges from upper unmineralized troctolite down through troctolite with increasing amounts of sulfide (up to 50%), to massive sulfide (in some places only), and then to Basal Breccia Sequence. East of the Ovoid, the troctolite sheet broadens out into a troctolite intrusion, within which occurs the "Eastern Deeps", a zone of massive and disseminated sulfide up to 100 m thick that is currently being explored. The mineralization of the Eastern Deeps lies along the line of intersection of a feeder sheet with the base of the intrusion. The current interpretation is that the three geological environments represent different erosional levels through a single mineralized intrusion. In this model, the deepest erosional level lies to the west and exposes the feeder to surface, whereas the Ovoid represents the base of the intrusion at surface, and the Eastern Deeps the base of the intrusion overlain by 600 m to 900 m of troctolite. Sulfides and gneissic fragments were brought up by magma flowing quickly through the feeder, and settled out where the flow rate decreased as the sulfide-bearing magma mixed with magma already emplaced in the intrusive body."

"When elephants fight, it's the grass that gets trampled". It is becoming increasingly evident that the federal and provincial governments are awakening to the fact that their vigorous scramble for a "fair share" of mineral revenues which kicked off in 1974 has done considerable harm to the Canadian mining industry. Recent public statements made by government officials, particularly at the recently held annual convention of the Prospectors and Developers Association, would indicate that there is a general consensus in the government sector that changes must be made to the mining tax system. However, there is no evidence as yet that there is any agreement among the various governments as to what form these changes should take , who should make them , or when. It would seem to be worthwhile at this time to reflect on where the Canadian mining industry has been vis-a-vis taxes and "where it is at ". This article is based on a recent address given by R. D. Brown, of Price Waterhouse & Co., Toronto, at the annual convention of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers in Denver , Colorado.

The possibility of diamonds occurring in Canada was first raised by W. H. Hobbs in 1899, who concluded: "that the apex of the fan of diamond distribution probably lies somewhere in the strip of the territory bordering James Bay on the east." This was based on the occurrence of diamonds in surficial sediments at various locations south of the Great Lakes. There are two recorded discoveries of drift diamonds in Ontario: (a) the Peterborough Diamond, 33 carats in size, poorly documented and found sometime before 1920;and (b) the Jarvi Diamond, 0.255 carat, found during 1971 in Sheraton Township near Timmins . Both discoveries were in surficial sediments and their source(s) have not been located. During 1960, Selco Exploration Company Ltd. started a heavy-mineral sample program of river gravels in the James Bay Lowlands of Ontario. This was continued by Canadian Rock Company Ltd. (1962-1963) and the Ontario Division of Mines (1973). The surveys discovered the presence of kimberlite minerals in gravel samples from streams draining the Moose River Basin. A total of 53 pyrope grains, four magnesian ilmenites and one grain of chrome diopside were identified from 32 sample locations. A study of the distribution of these minerals suggested the kimberlite source rocks to be located along the north margin or within the Kapuskasing gravity "high" in the area immediately south of James Bay. The Jarvi Diamond, found on an esker east of Timmins, could well have originated from this area. During 1965, an esker was sampled by the Geological Survey of Canada, and the results attracted attention to the area south of Lake Abitibi. At 9 out of 34 sites sampled along the Munro esker, Lee recorded the presence of pyrope garnets and very minor chrome diopside.

"A set of new blast damage criteria has been developed, with special reference to blasthole mining operations, for assessing damage by incorporating the vibration level, rock properties, site characteristics and the effects of ground support systems. The main objective of this work was to provide a database with reasonable accuracy for use in optimizing blast design, numerical analysis and ground control expert system module development.The new damage criteria allow one to estimate the degree of damage to rock structures in terms of a dimensionless parameter defined as Blast Damage Index (BDI). This allows for the description of blast damage in a unified form, and facilitates the development of codes for numerical modelling to express the degree of blast damage universally. A number of field investigations from several stope production and slot opening blasts at a large underground base metal mine were carried out to verify the developed index. The results show a good correlation between the observed damage and the type of damage predicted from the BDI values.Practical measures are also provided for minimizing blast damage in large underground blasthole mining operations"

"PT ANTAM UBPE Pongkor underground mine use blasting to develop its tunnels which will cause poisonous and dangerous gases trapped inside mine. To analyze this case, a study of mine ventilation, the dispersion of carbon monoxide (CO) gas concentration and diffusion coefficient is commenced. At the end, the re-entry time formula will be determined. Results indicate that this study is site specific and could only be applied in the place this study executed. The aim of this study is to be further developed by applying Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to find a universal re-entry formula. Thus, its development and production processes require blasting to develop its tunnel. This process caused poisonous and dangerous gases spread and trapped inside the mine, one of them is carbon monoxide (CO) gas. CO is formed in an unbalanced reaction of explosives detonation and could be the cause of headache, blackout and death to people who inhale CO at certain concentration (McPherson, 2011; Hartman, Mutmansky, Ramani, & Wang, 2012). Mine ventilation system is installed in the mine to resolve this problem. Mine ventilation play an important role to disperse CO gas by absorb the poisonous/dangerous gases and deliver clean air into mine. The important parameter is diffusion coefficient, because diffusion is affecting particulates or gasses spreading from its sources throughout the mine. Diffusion coefficient is the total diffusion in axial direction of turbulent flow mainly by convection of bulk motion, advection and eddy diffusion, while the effect of molecular diffusion is appreciably negligible (Widiatmojo et al, 2015). Taylor (1953, 1954) develops a theory about the dispersion by inducing a slow stream of solvent into a capillary tube. Taylor used Reynolds assumption of radial diffusivity to be analogous with the transfer of the matter in turbulent flow as well as the transfer of momentum and heat. "This paper presents a phenomenological model of the rate of iron(III) precipitation in batch and continuous autoclaves at medium temperature operating conditions. The rate expressions are based on information obtained from the literature and experimentation at low and high pulp densities. Special allowance is made for the formation of surface nuclei, which appears to be promoted at a higher iron(III) precipitate surface area, especially in suspensions of lower terminal acidity. This leads to the formation of secondary particulates and provides the required link to simulate high pulp density leaching-precipitation systems, using low pulp density batch precipitation data. In particular, the model allows direct application of the simulation to the autoclave oxidation of iron-containing copper sulfide concentrates and provides a good estimation of the relative precipitation rate of hematite, the preferred product, compared to hydronium jarosite. Some interesting mechanistic understandings of iron(III) precipitation in autoclaves are further elucidated.INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this work is to describe the rate of iron(III) precipitation and the relative amounts of hematite compared to hydronium jarosite precipitation during batch and continuous chalcopyrite oxidation under medium temperature (MT) (~130 to 160ºC) autoclave conditions. Published information has not yet revealed sufficient mechanistic insights about this sparingly soluble salt system under these conditions. The rate expressions in this paper are based in part on current literature information, supplemented by qualitative experimental observation at low pulp density conditions, in particular the high-resolution backscatter electron (BSE) images and particle size distributions (PSDs) of the precipitates. A summary of this work and insights from the literature are presented first, after which the behaviour of iron(III) in high pulp density leaching systems is used to derive a phenomenological expression of the effect of existing iron(III) precipitate surface area on the precipitation rate. The overall regression encapsulates all the experimental results, i.e., those obtained in both batch and continuous autoclave configurations (Steyl, 2012a)."

"The name 'Canadian Shield' is used for a vast area; largely in northeastern; Canada; underlain by Precambrian rocks. The part in Canada has an area; of about 1; 790; 000 square miles. Extensions in Greenland; Labrador; Newfoundland; and the United States bring the total area to around 2; 800; 000; square miles. The boundaries of the Canadian part are shown in Fig. 1.; At its margins; the Precambrian rocks can be seen at many places to; extend beneath a cover of flat-lying Palxozoic or later sediments. Information; from borings in the Plains and natural exposures in mountain-built belts; show that similar rocks form a large part of the continental platform. The; Shield; therefore; is a large exposure of what may be regarded as the foundation; of the continent."

"This article describes the methods used for pillar extraction in the Wilson Seam at Canmore Mines, Alberta. The Wilson Seam is extremely gassy and varies in thickness between 7 and 30 ft, with an average of 12 ft. The gradient varies from 5 to 30 degrees, with an average of 15 degrees. The seam was developed using Lee Norse miners to form pillars which the company intended to extract using the same machines. Before pillar extraction commenced, an abandoned and inaccessible mine 160 ft above the Wilson had to be drained of 360 million gallons of water. When this was done pillar extraction commenced. Conditions in the mine slowly deteriorated and after 6 months the decision to withdraw the continuous miners was taken. Slusher hoists were installed to replace the continuous miners, with the result that roof conditions and safety steadily improved."

"Economic Mn-oxide ore deposits of commercial grade occur in the Rhodope massif near Kato Nevrokopi in the Drama region, Northern Greece. The Mn-oxide mineralization has developed by weathering of continental hypogene rhodochrosite-sulphide veins. The vein mineralization is con-?ned by tectonic shear zones between marble and metapelites, extending laterally into the marble astabular, pod or lenticular oreshoots (up to 50 m x 20 m x 5-10 m). Supergene oxidation of the hypogene mineralization led to the formation of in-situ residual Mn-oxide ore deposits, and secondary infills of Mn-oxide ore in embryonic and well developed karst cavities.Whole rock geochemical pro?les across mineralized zones con?rm the role of thrusts and faults as solution passageways and stress the importance of these structures in the development of hydrothermal and supergene mineralization at Kato Nevrokopi. Three zones are recognized in the in-situ supergene veins: (A) a stable zone of oxidation, where immobile elements form (or substitute in) stable oxide mineral phases, and mobile elements are leached; (B) a transitional (active) zone in which element behavior is strongly in?uenced by seasonal ?uctuations of the groundwater table and variations in pH-Eh conditions; and (C) a zone of permanent ?ooding, where variations in pH-Eh conditions are minimal. Zone (B) is considered as the source zone for the karst cavity mineralization. During weathering, meteoric waters, which were CO2-rich (PCO2~10-3.8 to 10-1.4) and oxygenated (fO2~10-17 for malachite), percolated downward within the veins, causing breakdown and dissolution of sul?des and marble, and oxidation of rhodochrosite to Mn-oxides. Karst cavity formation was favored by the high permeability along thrust zones. Dissolved Mn2+was transportedinto karst cavities in reduced meteoric waters at the beginning of weathering (pH~4-5), and as Mn(HCO3)2in slightly alkaline groundwaters during advanced weathering (pH~6-8). Mn4+-oxide precipitation took place by fO2increase in ground waters, or pH increase by continuous hydrolysis and carbonate dissolution. In the well developed karst setting, some mobility of elements occurred during and after karst ore formation in the order Na>K>Mg>Sr>Mn>As>Zn>Ba>Al>Fe>Cu>Cd>Pb."

The Mn-oxide mineralization has developed by weathering of continental hypogene rhodochrosite-sulphide veins. The vein mineralization is confined by tectonic shear zones between marble and metapelites, extending laterally into the marble as tabular, pod or lenticular oreshoots (up to 50 m ?? 20 m ?? 5-10 m). Supergene oxidation of the hypogene mineralization led to the formation of in-situ residual Mn-oxide ore deposits, and secondary infills of Mn-oxide ore in embryonic and well developed karst cavities.Whole rock geochemical profiles across mineralized zones confirm the role of thrusts and faults as solution passageways and stress the importance of these structures in the development of hydrothermal and supergene mineralization at Kato Nevrokopi. "10.1. IntroductionAs discussed by Westland (1981), the six platinum-group elements (PGE) belong to the Group VIII transition metals, to which iron, nickel and cobalt also belong. The chemical similarity between these nine metals accounts for the fact that they tend to be concentrated together as a result of geological processes. These processes started to effect the distribution of these metals at the very beginning of the earth's history.The first line in Table 1 gives the concentration of nickel and certain other Group VIII transition metals in carbonaceous chondrites, those meteorites with a composition that is believed to reflect best the composition of our planetary system apart from hydrogen and helium. The second line is the estimated concentration of the same elements in the earth as a whole. It is seen that these two estimates are quite similar, the earth being perhaps 2 to 3 times richer in these particular metals than the planetary system as a whole. The reason for this is not fully understood, but it may be due to the earth being formed by the accumulation and capture of a greater proportion of iron (and therefore siderophile-rich) than stoney (and therefore siderophile-poor) planetesimals than the planetary system itself.The third line in Table 1 is the average composition of the crust of the earth. With the exception of iron, all of the Group VIII transition elements are rare in the crust, present at concentrations of It tOO to Itt ,000 of that of the bulk earth. This is because the outstanding chemical characteristic of this group of elements is their siderophile nature; that is, their tendency to alloy with metallic iron. Because of this, once the earth became molten very early in its life history, these elements dissolved in the molten iron present at this stage and were removed from the outer accessible parts as this dense liquid sank to the centre of the earth to form the core. Although iron was the main instrument of concentration of the Group VIII metals, its much greater over-all abundance and its ability to combine with oxygen more easily than the others in the group means that significant amounts still remain in the oxidized portions of the earth.The fact that most of the Group VIII metals are available to use in workable concentrations at all is that they are 5 to 30 times more concentrated in the earth's mantle than the crust, as shown in line 4 of Table I. There has been a constant, if slow, interchange of matter between the mantle and the overlying crust throughout most of the earth's history and, under certain circumstances, this interchange has given rise to economic concentrations of metals."

The instrumentation and monitoring of rock behaviour have played an important and necessary role in the practice of potash, rocksalt, gypsum, trona and coal mining. The art of rock instrumentation applied to soft rock and coal mining has progressively evolved over the past years and will surely continue to advance at a faster pace in the future as a result of the technological revolution we experience today. The development of sophisticated mine-wide data communications systems is being used for instrumentation and sensor automation, and laser, sonar and geophysics technology are being continuously adapted for rock monitoring purposes. In this paper, the author provides an overview of typical rock instrumentation used today and offers some views of the progressive evolution in rock mechanics instrumentation sophistication and design.

In this paper we intend to deal particularly with the economic side of coal washing as it applies to our mines. We will then discuss why the dry-cleaning process has been selected, and give a brief description of our plant, dwelling only on its specific features and referring the reader to the numerous papers published on the subject for any details on the principles and machinery used in dry cleaning. ECONOMIC DISCUSSION The washery introduces an extra cost for depreciation, operation, and loss in treatment. A certain proportion of the coal, now being sold, and which the miners have been paid for. will have to be wasted. As a whole, the total increase in cost would be approximately 60 cents per ton. On the possibility of recovering this amount depends the success of the washery. There are two advantages to be expected from the washery, the first, which occurs at the mine and which will be certain; the second, more difficult to estimate, because it depends upon convincing our customers that they should pay more for a better product.

"The effect of operating variables on the flotation performance at steady-state has been extensively used for modelling and simulation of separation processes. However, the dynamic characterization of key variables such as gas dispersion (Sauter mean diameter of bubbles, D32, and bubble surface area flux, SB) and froth discharge rate is rather scarce. In this paper, an experimental design allowed identifying the dynamic response of the flotation process in a laboratory scale flotation cell, using a two-phase system, airwater. The installation included automatic control for the superficial gas rate, JG, and the pulp level. Gas dispersion was evaluated in terms of the Sauter mean diameter of a bubble population and the bubble surface area flux, SB = 6·JG/D32. The D32 was measured using the McGill Bubble Size Analyzer (MBSA) along with a semiautomated algorithm. In addition, the froth discharge velocity was measured in real-time using a Visiofroth system. The control variables were the superficial gas rate and the frother concentration (Teefroth). The dynamic characterization of the flotation process is useful to design algorithms that allow the direct or indirect control of metallurgical variables such as flotation rate, concentrate grade and mineral recovery.INTRODUCTIONGas dispersion indicates the way the gas entering a flotation machine is dispersed throughout the volume of the equipment (Schwarz & Alexander, 2006). The gas dispersion is typically characterized in terms of the bubble size (dB), gas holdup (eG), superficial gas rate (JG), and bubble surface area flux (SB =6·JG/dB) (Finch et al., 2000). All these variables have significant impact on the metallurgical performance of flotation machines. For example, Perez-Garibay et al. (2014) investigated the effect of the particle size, bubble size distribution, superficial gas rate and collector dosage on the flotation performance, for the separation of a sphalerite mineral. The authors observed that recovery increased with the superficial gas rate ranging from JG = 0.04 to JG = 0.08 cm/s and also a maximum recovery was obtained for bubble size close to 300 µm. Gorain et al. (1998) reported a strong correlation between the flotation rate constant and the bubble surface area flux in a zinc cleaner circuit. Both variables were directly proportional at three froth depths in the range of hF =7 - 45 cm. Dobby & Finch (1986) incorporated the effect of the superficial gas rate and the bubble size on the flotation efficiency by means of a kinetic model for the rate constants. Yianatos & Contreras (2010) developed a model to estimate the carrying capacity in large flotation cells by including the bubble surface area flux."

"In dump leaching, the efficiency of metal extraction from ores is strongly influenced by the mechanisms of fluid flow. Particle size distribution acts as a fundamental parameter in the determination of fluid flow properties in packed ore beds. In this study, we investigated the particle size distribution in dump leaching by using image analysis technique. The results showed that the particles in the dump varied from smaller than 2 cm to larger than 200 cm in diameter. P80 was calculated to be 200 cm, which was significantly higher than the historical data used by the operation. P25, P50 and P80 were found to increase non-linearly with increasing depth towards the toe of the dump, suggesting the segregation of fine and coarse particles. The image analysis results were verified by applying the rock fragmentation models. The model with the Swebrec function was found to be in better agreement with the image analysis results. Future research will investigate the effect of particle size distribution on the behaviour of fluid flow.INTRODUCTION Fluid flow plays an essential role in the extraction of valuable metals using heap/dump leaching (Amos et al., 2009). The rates of the chemical leaching reactions and microbial activities determine metal concentrations in the leachates and therefore the efficiency of the metal extraction. The reaction rates are influenced by two fundamental processes: transport phenomenon and reaction kinetics (Bouffard & Dixon, 2001). The transport phenomenon refers to the percolation of fluids through channels and pores in a packed ore bed, which carries lixiviants and reaction products to/from ore surfaces by convection and diffusion. The percolation rate of the leaching solution is determined by the hydraulic conductivity of the packed ore bed, which is a function of the permeability and the degree of saturation (Guzman et al., 2008). Permeability, an intrinsic property of a packed ore bed, is strongly influenced by the particle size distribution of the ore grains (Bouffard & Dixon, 2001). Hence, the objective of this study was to investigate the particle size distribution in dump leaching."

This paper presents a case study in which a slope failure was observed on the west wall of the LAB Chrysotile mine in the vicinity of the main ramp in January 2010. Airborne LiDAR results were used to evaluate slope geometry before and after the failure occurred. Back analysis of the failure was performed to assess rock mass properties at the slope scale using various numerical techniques: limit equilibrium, finite elements and fracture networks. The various approaches correlated well with field observations.
