A low volatile medium coking coal from Jharia coal field, India was used for this investigation. The proximate analysis of the sample shows that it contains about 25% ash, 21.4% volatile matter and 52.4% fixed carbon. The sizewise ash analysis of -0.5 mm coal indicates that -0.5+0.15 mm fraction contains lower ash (21.9%) than -0.15 mm fraction (29.7%). The flotation characteristics of the -0.5 mm coal were determined by release analysis. The study reveals that recovery of combustible at 15% ash is about 27% and 43% at 17% ash level. The low recovery is due to the presence of high ash in finer fraction. In order to improve the recovery, the -0.5 mm feed was classified into -0.5+0.15 mm and -0.15 mm fractions, and subjected to flotation separately. The recoverable combustible obtained from the release analysis of -0.5+0.15 mm at 15% ash level is 46%. The effect of collector dosage, frother dosage and aeration rate on flotation was studied. The responses of these variables in collectorless flotation of the -0.5+0.15 mm fraction containing low ash were also studied. A lower aeration and frother dosage favored the generation of clean coal with low ash. The ash content in the tailing stream from -0.5+0.15 mm flotation circuit is close to that of the original -0.15 mm fraction. The former is ground to -0.15 mm and the two fractions are processed together. As -0.15 mm fraction contains relatively higher ash, collector aided flotation using sodium silicate was performed to recover the clean coal with 17% ash. The products of the overall flotation circuit having different ash levels were recommended for use in different applications. The reject from -0.15 mm flotation circuit contained 56.4% ash which can be used for fluidized bed combustion (FBC). This eventually leads to complete utilization of coal.

In this paper two optional production processes are presented for reasonable utilization of primary sylvinite in Qinghai province, China. The two kinds of products as chlorine-free potash fertilizers; potassium sulphate or potassium magnesium sulphate can be obtained. In the course of potassium sulphate production, using primary sylvinite from Qinghai salt lake as raw material with impurities such as sodium chloride and insoluble in primary sylvinite, it must be prepared by flotation before being converted into potassium sulphate. This final product has found wide use in tobacco industry in China. However, in some cases Chinese farmers would rather buy the fertilizer of potassium magnesium sulphate than high quality of potassium sulphate. With flotation process which is a little different from above mentioned, the potassium magnesium sulphate fertilizer may be produced by washing one of the flotation concentrate presented as picromerite, while another concentrate containing potassium chloride is treated as by-product.

Poor grade iron ore, suffering from interlocked particles, is challenging for any process technology. Extensive grinding is required to attain liberation and to yield concentrates of desired grade. Fine particles are commonly very difficult to retrieve, resulting in value losses to tailings. In this paper, results from HGMS tests on fine to ultra fine hematite are reported. Special emphasis is put on slurry flow velocity. If hydrodynamic drag force, i.e. flow velocity is not controlled and kept constant during the feed and/or rinse phase, fine particles will not be captured and retained. Flow velocity control and constant flow during separation are achieved by discharge valves/slots and parallel magnetic flux and pulp flow configuration. In tests, increased slurry velocity from 178 to 268mm/s caused Fe-recovery to drop from 78 to 48%. Proving that flow velocity control is essential to optimise grade and recovery. HGMS tests at the Metso mineral laboratory on natural (weathered) hematite fines clearly show a large potential to recover valuables, currently lost to tailings. Even at particle size distributions as low as D80=35µm concentrate grades and recovery are very satisfying. Two samples, in-plant desliming rejects (D80=35µm and 50µm) where significantly upgraded and recovered, from 45,3% to 63,6% and 53,0% to 63,4% Fe, at 73,8% and 81,1% Fe-recovery respectively. Other types of in plant rejects, such as gravity separation or WHIMS tailings, also benefits from HGMS separation. Gravity separation reject, 55,8% Fe, at D80=500µm was tested, yielding a magnetic concentrate of 60,8% Fe at 50,7% Fe-recovery. The results indicated that the hematite was poorly liberated. HGMS separation was repeated after a regrind to D80 150µm, resulting in a magnetic concentrate of 62,8% Fe at 75,9% Fe-recovery. The tests prove that hematite, presently lost to tailings streams, can be recovered by HGMS and thereby significantly contribute to improved overall economy. Most of the coal reserves in India are of drift origin and have very poor washability characteristics and a high level of near gravity materials. At least 30 new coal wash plants are expected to be set up in the next 5years.In such a scenario, adequate sampling followed by sink float test work for washability analysis becomes very critical for designing these new plants. For coal sampling purpose, stipulations of different standards are sometimes formidable and on the border of ?impracticality?; sometimes are self contradictory in terms of gross sample weight vis-a-vis minimum number of particles required in each size fraction and in each relative density fraction and also the minimum mass in the latter. Validation of the generated data is another important aspect of washability analysis. These issues can easily be addressed by using straight forward mathematical relationships, well known RR plots and by using simple MS Excel tool, etc.

In 2004, LKAB decided to start a basic engineering study in expanding its existing production lines at the Malmberget mine site. It was expected that some of the production lines would become bottlenecks with reference to capacity. In this study, the sorting plant is examined and the results show that several unit operations will be limiting under current operating conditions. An additional purpose with the study was to investigate how replacement of some machines would influence performance and if production plans for the coming years might be achieved. Steady-state simulations using the software Modsim? were extensively used to study process performance for different operating conditions, such as iron content and size distribution in run-of-mine ore. Model parameters were derived from pilot plant data and when possible from ex-isting circuits. A complication for the simulations was the lack of relevant data and therefore some of the initial results were only indicative. The result shows that installation of new screens would give a much better operation, but also new crushers would be an improvement. This, since they can be run with full crusher chamber and tighter CSS. During 2007, most of the proposed remedies were implemented and the result is that the bottle-necks are gone, and the grades and material balances are even better than what was envisioned from the simulations.

"The goal of prospecting operations in the Republic of Altay was to locate gold-sulfide-quartz mineralization. For this purpose we applied the technology of electromagnetic sounding and induced polarization (EMS-IP). These operations resulted in localizing promising sites with presence of sulfidization. The EMS-IP method proved to be highly efficient amongst other prospecting methods targeted at recognizing zones of sulfide mineralization making up 91%, considering that in more than half cases the ore intervals were the case. In the Yakutian diamondiferous province the EMS-IP technology was approbated during three field seasons to accomplish the assignments on searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of various geological types. As a result, the reference objects were distinguished, and geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion were defined.INTRODUCTION In the time span 2015-2016 in Gorny Altay the EMS-IP technology was approbated in the Novokuznetsk area. The on-land areal geophysical survey was performed by EMS-IP method applied to identify, outline and locate promising sites with Au-Ag-bearing polymetallic mineralization within surveyed areas. Compared to the hosting rocks, the sulfides contained in polymetallic mineralization are typified by low specific electrical resistivity (SER) and high polarization. The areal survey conducted via EMS-IP method provided spatial characteristics of searched object. From July 2016 to August 2017 our expedition group carried out serial test works and laboratory investigations intending to define performance capabilities of EMS-IP technology in searching for kimberlite bodies under conditions of diverse geological types. The prerequisites for serial work were operations accomplished at the «Listvenichny» site lying 35 km away from Mirny town in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), where the EMS-IP technology was probed for locating position and measuring geoelectric parameters of tuff pipe «Buardakhsky». After successful completion of operations it was decided to evaluate geoelectric parameters of kimberlite pipes of explosion."

Yuanjiacun iron ore located in Shanxi province of China has finely disseminated grain size and contains refractory iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals such as chlorite. Therefore, a large amount of secondary slime (the content of -10µm fraction was up to 32.92%) was produced inevitably in fine grinding process, and chlorite was also enriched in concentrate from the content of 4.3% to 14.8% after high intensity magnetic separation. These two characteristics result in the difficulty to deal with Yuanjiacun iron ore by flotation. In this test work, contrast tests between single reverse flotation and selective flocculation desliming-reverse flotation were conducted on Yuanjiacun iron ore. The test results show that after selective flocculation desliming, the iron grade of cationic reverse flotation concentrate increases by 6.15% and the recovery increases by 7.25%; the iron grade of anionic reverse flotation concentrate also increases by 2.15%. Furthermore, analyses of grain size composition and mineral composition were carried out on separation products, the results indicate that selective flocculation desliming plays a dual role of optimizing grain size composition of flotation feed and removing iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals (chlorite) effectively.

Brazil and Colombia have large reserves of coal, those reserves in Brazil are located predominantly in the south and Colombia the main reserves are located in the north. Despite the relative ease of exploitation, these resources have been underestimated as a source of energy. Currently, these countries are developing projects and partnerships aiming to qualify this mineral resource, adding quality to the final product of the processing plants. In this scenario the processing of Brazilian and Colombian coal in flotation columns appears as a promising alternative, having been successful in mineral systems containing fine particles This paper aims to study the overall process of column flotation for a specific Brazilian coal and a specific Colombian coal. The material used in this study consists of fine coal from Brazil (Copelmi) and Colombia (Cerrejon). The objective is to recover carbonaceous matter and reduce the ash and contaminants grade. The two coals were floated using a negative bias in a 5 cm diameter conventional flotation column of 5 m high. Flotation parameter investigated included air velocity in the range 0.6 to 1.5 cm/s. For all runs, a constant negative bias of -0.25 cm/s and a pulp concentration of 8% w/w were used. For Cerrejón coal, 300 g/ton of frother and 907 g/ton of collector was used, whereas for Copelmi coal, 600 g/ton of frother and 1815 g/ton of collector was employed. The frother was a commercial Aerofroth 65 (AF65), whereas the collector was Kerosene. For the Colombian coal, in general, yield, organic recovery, ash recovery and water recovery decreased with the increasing air rate. However, for Brazilian coal the air rate had no significant effect. For Colombian coal, the highest yield (60% w/w) and organic recovery (69% w/w) were obtained at the lowest air rate (0,6 cm/s). Sodium oleate was an effective diaspore collector, whereas chelate collector OL2 showed certain collecting power over diaspore and nonionic surfactant OL3 showed little collecting ability. Then experiments were carried out using sodium oleate as the main collector with the addition of OL2,OL3 to study the influences on diaspore flotation, it could be seen from the experiments that accelerants had a marked influence on the recovery of diaspore, which could be raised by 10%, and the addition sequence also affected the flotation behavior: the best results could be gained when the accelerants were mixed thoroughly before adding and the best ratio of collector OL1 and accelerant OL2, OL3 stood at 30:2:1. Based on the calculation of the ingredients in the sodium oleate solution, sodium oleate reacted with surface of the mineral and formed the acid-soap polymer [HOl?Ol-] when pH was about 9. Zeta potential test showed the accelerant promoted the absorption of collector on the mineral surface, which lowered zeta potential. As could be seen from surface tension experi-ments, the addition of accelerant OL3 lowered the CMC value of OL1 solution, which was equiva-lent to raise the power of the agents. Further Infrared Ray experiments showed the co-absorption of OL1 and OL2 make aluminum oleate on the mineral surface more stable. Up till now, the mixed reagents with sodium oleate as the main collector, combined with other two accelerants had been used in the Zhongzhou concentration plant, which is the first diaspore flotation plant in China.

"The effect of EPS components namely protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant purified from Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated for the bioremediation of Pb(II) ions in aqueous solution. Two parameters, namely the amount of EPS component and the concentration of Pb(II) ions were optimized for maximum Pb(II) ions uptake. The EPS components interacted with Pb(II) ions were characterized using energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX) to ascertain the presence of Pb and by attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR–FTIR) to reveal the functional groups involved in Pb(II) binding. The maximum Pb(II) binding capacities of protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant were found to be 11.4, 0.55 and 0.11 mg mg-1 respectively. The biosorption processes followed the Langmuir model. The Gibbs free energy (?G0) values of -23.6, -20.9 and -23.2 kJ mol-1 for Pb(II) biosorption by protein, polysaccharide and biosurfactant respectively, attested to spontaneous, chemisorption processes. The ATR–FTIR results revealed the presence and involvement of amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, phosphate, and methyl functional groups in Pb(II) binding and EDAX analysis confirmed the interaction of Pb with EPS components. The Pb(II) binding mechanisms of EPS have been discussed. The results demonstrate the potential of the purified EPS components of P. fluorescens for removal of Pb(II) ions from aqueous solution INTRODUCTION Waste water containing toxic metals from various industries pose a serious threat to human health and ecosystem. For treating such waste water, conventional methods like chemical precipitation, coagulation, evaporative recovery, electrodialysis, floatation, flocculation, ion exchange, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration are used (Lakherwal et al., 2014). These methods have some disadvantages like toxic sludge generation, incomplete metal removal and high cost (Singh and Gadi, 2012), necessitating the search for cheaper and efficient alternative methods. Bioremediation is one of the emerging alternatives where bacteria, fungi, yeast, algae and other biological substances are used as sorbents to remove toxic heavy metals (Vijayaraghavan, et al., 2015). Recently, the bioremediation potential of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) of microbial origin has attracted attention. However, for Pb(II) removal, there is a paucity of literature focusing on EPS."

The main objective of the present work is to synthesize a HAS material having high capacity and robust ability for recycling to capture greenhouse gases with special reference to carbon dioxide (CO2) from the sources from where it is released to the atmosphere. Existing CO2 capture techniques involves the use of solid materials that lack sufficient stability for repeated use or liquid adsorbents that are expensive and require significant amounts of energy. The surface-active agent, like sodium humate, in the present systems produces a very stable suspension. Saline water up to 15% is used as a flocculating agent for recovery of water from the dispersed phase containing 1% solid. The recovered water in the presence of humate at different concentrations (0.05-0.2%) and at pH 8 also produces a stable dispersed phase of iron ore fines and tailings. The beneficiation techniques adopted in the present systems can increase ~ 2-3% iron value in the concentrate of iron ore fine, however, for tailings the increase in iron value is not observed. Mechanically-induced chemical reactions between natural beach ilmenite (FeTiO3) and silicon (Si) have been examined by a combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) analyses. The effect of various milling time on the phase transformation, crystallite size, and lattice strain of a beach sand ilmenite with silicon, and on their leaching behavior in hydrochloric acid (HCl) has been investigated. For mechanically activated FeTiO3, the crystallite size decreased and lattice strain increased monotonically with time of milling. However, the mechanochemically synthesized ilmenite with silicon showed a relatively smaller crystallite size and greater lattice strain compared with the mechanically activated ilmenite under the same milling condition. In accordance with the elapse of milling time, the intensity of both pure FeTiO3 and mechanically activated FeTiO3 gradually decreased. However, in case of the mechanochemically synthesized ilmenitereduction of FeTiO3 by silicon resulted in formation of rutile TiO2 at the milling time of 20 h and afterwards. Additional leaching experiments were carried out at an HCl/ilmenite (wt%) ratio of 20:1. The concentration of HCl was 3 M and the reaction temperature ranged from 70 to 90 oC. Mechanical activation was observed to significantly enhance the dissolution rates of both iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti) in HCl. Particularly, effects of both milling time and silicon addition on the dissolution rates of titanium and iron were significant, while those of temperature were relatively minor under the conditions investigated in this study. "Extreme thermophiles, operating at 65 - 90°C, are finding increasing application in biohydrometallurgy These microorganisms have the advantage of exhibiting better oxidation kinetics in terms of reaction rate and extent of mineral solubilisation. These extreme thermophiles are Archae, characterised by a different cell envelope structure perceived to provide reduced structural strength in comparison to bacterial envelopes, and customised metabolic pathways.The active tank bioleaching process, used for high rate leaching, is conducted in a slurry bioreactor. Here sufficient energy dissipation is required to ensure suspension of the mineral phase as well as to sustain high rates of gas liquid mass transfer. It is well known that subjection to hydrodynamic stress of sufficient magnitude may alter the physiological state of a range of micro-organisms through changed viability (ability of the microbes to grow), metabolic activity and integrity.In this paper, we report on studies carried out to quantify the ability of the extreme thermophile Sulfolobus to withstand the hydrodynamic stress environment generated at high pulp densities in the slurry bioreactor. Both a pyrite system (as a model system) and a chalcopyrite system (as an application) were studied. In laboratory reactor systems, the nature of biological responses to stress induced at high pulp density have been identified in terms of ability of the microbes to grow, their metabolic activity and rate of leaching and cell integrity. Critical operating conditions within the laboratory reactor are identified and the mechanism mediating reduced performance considered."

The extraction of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) from the laterite deposit of Ramu nickel-cobalt Project in Papua New Guinea was performed in this study. Chemical analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-AES) atomic emission spectrometer, SPS-3000 (Seiko Instruments (Inc.), shows the ore contains 48% Fe, 1% Ni, 0.1% Co, 1.8% Al, 0.14% Mg, and 0.8% Mn. Characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the laterite ore obtained from the mine site shows the ore contains 70 to 80% goethite (FeOOH), assuming Fe content of 48% is mainly from geothite. The main leaching parameters investigated include; slurry temperature, leaching time and sulphuric acid (H2SO4) concentration to evaluate nickel and cobalt extraction. For all experiments, 10g batch samples are put into 300 ml beaker containing 100 ml of sulphuric acid of varying concentrations (1M, 2M, 4M). During the leaching period, 5 ml slurry samples are withdrawn at different times and filtered to obtain filtrate for ICP analysis to monitor nickel and cobalt extraction. Solid samples at the end of all tests are also obtained by filtration and after drying, XRD and ICP tests are performed to monitor nickel and cobalt contents. According to the test results performed at normal atmospheric pressure, over 99% of nickel and over 50% cobalt were extracted into solution within 120 min at 95ºC in 2M H2SO4 solution. Similar results were obtained when only temperature was reduced to 90ºC, but cobalt extraction increased to over 70% when leaching time was increased to 240 min. Further reduction in temperature to 80 and 60ºC resulted in reduction of nickel and cobalt extraction. At the end of each leaching test, magnetite was seen to attach to magnetic stirrer. The objective of the paper was application of bacterial leaching on two brown coal samples from locality Mine Druzba, seams Antonin and Josef (Sokolov brown coal basin, Czech republic). Based on the results of bacterial leaching and petrologic analyses of the given samples, it is possible to say that application of bacterial leaching gived good results. Applying bacterial leaching it is possible to remove from 34% to 47% of total sulphur and from 45% to 64% of pyritic sulphur from the coal.

Jig is a kind of conventional and old gravity concentration equipment, which is mainly used in the preconcentration of medium particle fractions of low-grade nonferrous metal ore. In the past ten years, studies on jigs have made a great progress on separation of coarse and fine particle fractions. At the same time, pneumatic jigs have been widely used in processing of nonferrous metal ore. In this paper, pilot test study and commercial operation for several kinds of jigs used in Dachang con-centrator has been introduced. Dachang mining area of GuangXi province is rich in mineral resources, where many minerals exhibit various complex properties. Many elements such as Sn, Pb, Sb, Zn, S, As, Cu, In, Ag, Gd, Ag, Ga, etc, were found in the run-of-mine ore (ROM). At present, Dachang concentrator produces tin concentrate, lead-antimony concentrate and zinc concentrate. Other valuable elements get enriched and recovered in above concentrates. Dachang Mine with a mining operation history more than sixty years will end its mission on the rich ore resource exploitation. At present, low grade ores are porcessed in the concentrator, and the concentrator begins to run at a loss upon processing the low-grade and refractory ore. Heavy medium cyclones were used in the concentrator for processing 20-4mm fraction, Gongge jigs for 4-2mm fraction, and cone concentrator combined with spiral concentrator to discard the tailings of -2mm fractions. In order to minimize overgrinding, table flotation was used to recover some liberated cassiterites in a complex processing technology. Therefore, the concentrator is difficult to manage. Many years studies have shown that heavy medium cyclones and spiral concentra-tors can be replaced by sawtooth shaped wave jigs to discard 50% tailings to improve the grade of feed. And the feed was divided into rich one and poor one to minimize overgrinding of valuable cassiterites with different grinding mills. In this case, the recovery of the valuable minerals can get improved and the flowsheet was simplified. Moreover, the concentrator begins to make profit with reduction of cost. At the same time, pollution in the concentrator gets reduced and the working condition gets improved too. Sawtooth shaped wave jig was used in Changpo concentrator for replacement of cone separators and spiral concentrators to discard the tailings of -4mm fraction, and the yield of discarded tailings got improved from 30% to 50%. Grades of tin, lead and zinc in the tailings are lowered from 0.15%, 0.12%, 0.7% to 0.06%, 0.05%, 0.4% respectively, with a loss reduction of tin, lead and zinc from11%, 9%, 10% to 7.5%, 6%, 5% respectively, corresponding to the increasement of recovery of tin, lead, zinc from 52%, 50%, 55% to 56%, 56%, 62% respectively. Cost of the concentrator for processing one-ton ROM was therefore dropped from RMB155.28 to RMB119.74. Changpo concentrator lost RMB2.5 million in 2003, but it made a profit of RMB0.92 million in 2006 after the innovations. Batac jig was used in Tongkeng concentrator to discard the coarse tailings at 20-4mm, with a discarded yield of 35%, and the grades of valuable minerals got improved with a recovery above 95% for tin, lead-antimony and zinc.

According to XRD, DTA and SEM detections, the hydration products of blast furnace slag (BFS) based cementing material SL, SLG. were studied in different age periods. The XRD analysis of cementing material SL hydration products showed that the composition of hydration products were mainly amorphous substances, few crystalline substances. Characteristic peak of ettringite hadn?t been found in the spectral line of DTA, and it hadn?t been found in the figures of SEM, either, which was accordant with the conclusion that the cementing performance of SL mainly coming from gel of hydrated calcium silicate (CSH) and hydrated calcium aluminate. However, the main hydration products of SLG are Aft, CSH, and AFm, which are similar to Portland cement. All results suggest that BFS is a suitable base material for cementation. Due to not to being our own sources, some energy sources such as oil and natural gas which are used frequently, are not reliable energy sources for our country. Coal is an important energy source that Turkey also has a certain reserve as many countries have. To be able to use for many years the reserves of this source that comes from fossils, there is a great need to make more investigation and development activities on it. On behalf of using more productively the current sources, briquetting facility is represented that commenced production in The Aegean Lignite Establishment in 2005 which is in Manisa, Soma. This facility is a part of General Directorate of Turkish Coal. This facility is run by Soma Coal Establishment that works in return for royalty in a licensed field that belongs to TKI. As the demand of market for 0.5 mm dust coal diminishes, we had to accumulate and stock unmerchantable dust coal. Besides, we have intermixed 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal obtained as a result of washing in coal washer with thermic coal with low price as we could not find a client in the market. In this study, the production stages of briquette coal with high quality produced as a result of pressing by mixing 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal with molasse and lime, quality control, and data?s obtained about calories and solidity of products were presented. By briquetting of 0.5- 1 mm powder coal and 0.1 ? 0.5 mm fine powder coal washed in coal washer, it became possible to sell these coals on a high unit price and by providing the demand of coal of the market, we contributed to productivity of our firm. In this paper, the development of research and practice on the separation process of fine complex Cu-S ore at a Copper Mine in south of China, was discussed. Since early 1980s, various processes were used, such as the process of bulk flotation-separation, the process of selection flotation and the process of iso-flotation. Especially when the process of selective flotation was put into operation, further development was achieved in beneficiation results, but the difficulty in separation of chalcopyrite from pyrite has not been solved yet, so causing a poor quality of Cu concentrate. The author has successfully developed a new separation process characterized by the use of collector thionocarbamate and fast flotation. The selectivity of fine chalcopyrite and pyrite was greatly improved. This process supplied a new route for the treatment of fine complex Copper sulphide ores.
