Appendix I. Part 1: Description Of Geology & Reserves System Introduction The Ore Evaluation and Reserve programs have been developed to aid in the evaluation of coal deposits, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The "Weighted Moving Average" technique used provides considerable flexibility in dealing with diverse parameters with differing distribution characteristics. Determination of Model Constants "a" and "k" - Unit 1 The flexibility of the method in dealing with diverse value parameter distributions lies in its ability to cater to the individual characteristics of each. These characteristics are embodied in the values determined for constants "a" and "k", namely, local and regional variations in value distributions, respectively. The empirical method used attempts to optimize the "a" - "k" combination. Realistic values for "a" and "k" are entered into the program together with sample values for the required parameters and their respective coordinate location values. All the values within a specified radius from the point being evaluated are used to interpolate a value at that point. (Note, the interpolated point is the location of one of the boreholes, values of which are not used in the calcula¬tion.) 3n a similar manner, interpolated values are calculated for each borehole location and for each parameter. This is done for each possible combination of "a" and "k".

Mine One General. The first summer field trip for the purpose of collecting data on open-pit metal mine grounding systems was marred by the fact that the group's ground test instrument was damaged in transit and proved to be inoperative. Fortunately, the mine personnel had a similar instrument which was then used for all tests. System Description. Power is purchased from the utility at either 69 or 100 kV. This is transformed to 4160 V at the pit substations and distributed around the periphery of the pit via a "ring bus." The three phase wires and the safety-ground conductor are carried on a conventional wooden pole and cross-arm support structure. At key loca¬tions, overhead feeders carry power from the ring bus down over the benches and into the pit. Each overhead feeder is terminated at a switchhouse, from which an SHD-GC trailing cable supplies power to the electric loading shovels. Each pit substation has a main or system-ground mat, installed by the utility, and a separate safety-ground mat, which is constructed by mine personnel. Three of the safety-ground mats are quite old, and personnel at the mine could not recall what type of construction was used. However, records are available on the fourth mat and construc¬tion details are shown in Figure 64. PART A. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT – GENERAL Paragraph 1. Electrical Equipment; Examination. All electric equipment shall be examined, tested, and properly main¬tained by a qualified person to assure safe operating conditions. The examinations and tests shall be performed at intervals not exceeding six (6) months unless otherwise specified in Parts A, B, C, D, and E. When a potentially dangerous condition is found on electric equipment, such equipment shall be removed from service until such condition is corrected. A record of such examinations shall be kept and made available to an authorized representative of the Secretary and to the authorized repre¬sentative of the miners in such mine. Each item of major equipment, in¬cluding substations, switchgear, load centers, and so forth except powered hand tools, shall be recorded separately. The record of such examination shall include all dangerous conditions found, corrective action taken, and name of examiner, and shall be signed by the person responsible for main¬taining the equipment in safe operating condition, who shall also be a qualified person. Paragraph 2. Electrical Work; Qualified Personnel. No electrical work shall be performed on electrical distribution circuits or equipment, except by a qualified person or by a person trained to perform electrical work and to maintain electrical equipment under the direct supervision of a qualified person. Disconnecting devices shall be locked out and prominently tagged by the persons who perform such work, except that in cases where locking out is not possible, such devices shall be opened and prominently tagged by such persons. Proposing A Model In this investigation, a model of the form: n Y = a0 + E a x. A-1 v=l J J was postulated, where the number of independent variables "n" was originally fifteen. The following experimental hypothesis was to be tested: Null Hypothesis: the coefficients a = 0 J Alternate Hypothesis: One or more of the coefficients a 0 J Correlation and Regression To establish the alternate hypothesis and to test how well the proposed model fits the data, the conventional statistical techniques of correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used. Additionally, factor analysis was employed to investigate the dependency relationships in the data. Correlation and linear regression are well established statistical procedures in science and engineering. References on these procedures include Spiegel (1961), Anderson (1963), and Draper and Smith (1966). A simple example is stated here. If N observations are made of two variables, x and y, and it is desired to test this data to see if a linear relationship exists, then a model of the form: Y = a0 + a 1 x A-2 is proposed. The values of a0 and al may be calculated from the raw data by the "least square normal equations", which are:

GEORGIUS AGRICOLA was not only the author of works on Mining and allied subjects, usually asso ciated with his name, but he also interested himself to some extent in political and religious subjects. For convenience in discussion we may, therefore, divide his writings on the broad lines of (1) works on mining, geology, mineralogy, and allied subjects; (2) works on other subjects, medical, religious, critical, political, and historical. In respect especially to the first division, and partially with regard to the others, we find three principal cases : (a) Works which can be authenticated in European libraries today ; (b) references to editions of these in bibliographies, catalogues, etc., which we have been unable to authenticate ; and (c) references to works either unpublished or lost. Aquifer. A formation, group of formations, or part of a formation that contains sufficient satu rated permeable material to yield significant quan tities of water to wells and springs. Artesian. Synonymous with confined; see ground water, confined. Capillary fringe. The zone immediately above the water table in which all or some of the interstices are filled with water that is under less than atmospheric pressure and that is continuous with the water below the water table. Conceptual model. A conceptualization of a field hydrogeologic framework that facilitates the development of analytical field testing procedures. The results of the test(s) may force changes in the initial conceptual model. Conductivity, hydraulic. Replaces the term "field coefficient of permeability." The volume of water at the existing kinematic viscosity that will move in unit time under a unit hydraulic gradient through a unit area measured at right angles to the direction of flow, if the porous medium is isotropic and the fluid homogeneous. Confining bed. A body of "impermeable" material stratigraphically adjacent to one or more aquifers; its hydraulic conductivity may range from nearly zero to some value distinctly lower than that of the aquifer. Flow, steady. Any point where the magnitude and direction of the specific discharge are constant in time. Flow, uniform. At every point the specific discharge has the same magnitude and direction. Flow, unsteady. At any point the magnitude or direction of the specific discharge changes with time. Fluid potential. The mechanical energy per unit mass of a fluid at any given point in space and time with respect to an arbitrary state and datum; the fluid potential is proportional to the head. Ground water, confined. Ground water under pressure significantly greater than atmospheric; its upper limit is the bottom of a bed of distinctly lower hydraulic conductivity than that of the material in which the confined water occurs. Ground water, perched. Unconfined ground water separated from an underlying body of ground water by an unsaturated zone. Ground water, unconfined. Water in an aquifer that has a water table. Head, static. Height above a standard datum of the surface of a column of water (or other liquid) that can be supported by the static pressure at a given point. Homogeneity. Hydrogeologic properties are identical everywhere. Hydraulic gradient. Change in static head per unit of distance in a given direction. Hydrostratigraphic unit. A body of material having considerable lateral extent and comprising a geologic framework for a reasonably distinct hydrogeologic system. Isotropy. Condition in which all significant properties are independent of direction. Porosity. Property of containing interstices or voids; may be expressed quantitatively as the ratio of the volume of its interstices to its total volume. Porosity, effective. Interconnected pore space available for fluid transmission; expressed as a percentage of the total volume occupied by the interconnecting interstices. Potentiometric surface. A surface that represents the static head along a particular specified surface or stratum. Specific retention. Ratio of the volume of water that the rock or soil, after being saturated, will retain against the pull of gravity to the volume of the rock or soil. Specific yield. Ratio of the volume of water that the rock or soil, after being saturated, will yield by gravity to the volume of the rock or soil. Storage, specific. The volume of water released from or taken into storage per unit volume of the porous medium per unit change in head.

APPENDIX A - PNEUMATIC TRANSPORT OF FLY ASH 1. Introduction Two types of pneumatic transport of fly ash are critical to the success of (1) Transport of fly ash from the fly ash truck to the entrance to the borehole. Depending on the surface topography, this may be horizontal, decential and ascential. (2) Vertical downflow of fly ash through the borehole. All fly ash trucks have limited pressure with which they can pump the fly ash. Thus, the pressure drop in the fly ash hose will define the maximum length for pumping and consequently the maximum distance that the fly ash truck can be parked from the auxiliary blower. The same relationships describe the flow of the dilute fly ash-air mixture produced by mixing with the auxiliary air from the blower and thus define the selection of the pipe diameter. These are im¬portant considerations in the proper selection of the location of the passages to be sealed and the type of surface preparation required. The flow characteristics of fly ash down the borehole determine the selection of the minimum borehole diameter and the blower pressure. This appendix presents theoretical analyses of these flow regimes and summarizes the limited experimental data obtained during the field tests at Grant Town, described in Section 8.4. The analysis for the borehole flow is presented first as it is of greater interest to the program. This is followed by a discussion of the horizontal flow.

The following advertisements show the contemporary view of the value of coal on a tract, usually as compared with farming advantages of several kinds. Fayette Gazette and Union Advertiser, February 10, 1798: "For Sale in Washington twp., Fayette Co., 211 acres of land whereon is a good new grist merchant mill, a good stone dam, and a house for the miller, about two acres of bottom, cleared and fenced, an excellent coal bank and saw-mill seat unimproved." Pittsburgh Gazette, March 19 and 26, 1802: Ads. offering for sale two properties, one of 38 acres, "together with a Coal Pitt and Lime Quarry, lying on the Monongahela side of Grant's Hill, and within one mile and a half of Pittsburgh," and the other two tracts of 700 acres on "Racoon creek, contiguous to which is a valuable limestone quarry, and a quarry of building stone, also plenty of stone coal." Pittsburgh Gazette, Oct. 8, 1802: A farm between Pittsburgh and Greensburg "with house, barn and a Smith shop-also, a fine sugar camp, and a Coal Bank within sight of the house," was offered for sale. The Farmers Register, Greensburg, Pa., March 13, 1802: An advertisement of a "plantation, six miles from Greensburg, there are two coal banks on it, one at each end of the place." The Commonwealth, Pittsburgh, Aug. 4,1805: A number of lots were laid off on Saw Mill Run, nearly opposite the first opening made on the Pittsburgh seam. They were from two to twenty acres each "and a great quantity of Limestone and stone coal." Pittsburgh Gazette, Aug. 9, Sept. 6, Sept. 27, Oct. 4, 1811; The Commonwealth, Aug. 19, 1811: Five tracts were advertised that contained coal. One had "fine springs and an inexhaustible mine of coal;" one, "excellent sugar camps, coal banks and limestone and a good mill seat;" one, "good sugar camps, an excellent coal bank and an elegant seat for a distillery;" another, a tract of 45,000 acres in Allegheny and Butler Counties affording "stone coal and iron ore, and seats for water works;" and the last a tract on Beck's Run, four miles from Pittsburgh "and a coal pit opened about one fourth of a mile from the river." The Mercury, Pittsburgh, April 8, Jan. 14, Feb. 11, 1813; Pittsburgh Gazette, April 16, Dec. 3, 1813: These tracts were advertised during the year in the vicinity of the city. One had "a good sugar camp, woodland and plenty of coal;" another, "a sugar camp and a coal bank on the premises;" while the others were "well timbered or well watered and had excellent stone coal." The Mercury, Pittsburgh, Feb. 2, 1814: A farm was offered for sale on the headwaters of Robinson's Run, in Washington County, four miles from Burgettstown, containing 60 acres, "a young bearing orchard,... a coal bank and a good sugar camp." Genius of Liberty and Fayette Advertiser, Uniontown, Pa., March 2, 1814, carried an advertisement of a sale of lots in the new town of Perriopolis; "the quantity and quality of the clay, sand and salt licks, near the premises, together with the timber and abundance of .stone coals The town of Perriopolis was situated upon a . farm at one time belonging to Washington.

We give the following brief notes on early works containing some reference to mineralogy, mining, or metallurgy, to indicate the literature available to Agricola and for historical notes bearing upon the subject. References to these works in the footnotes may be most easily consulted through the personal index. GREEK AUTHORS.-Only a very limited Greek literature upon subjects allied to mining or natural science survives. The whole of the material of technical interest could be , reproduced on less than twenty of these pages. Those of most importance are : Aristotle (384-322 B.c.), Theophrastus (371-288 B.c.), Diodorus Siculus (1st Century B.c.), Strabo (64 B.c.-25 A.D.), and Dioscorides (1st Century A.D.). Aristotle, apart from occasional mineralogical or metallurgical references in De Mirabilibus, is mostly of interest as the author of the Peripatetic theory of the elements and the relation of these to the origin of stones and metals. Agricola was, to a considerable measure, a follower of this school, and their views colour much of his writings. We, however, discuss elsewhere1 at what point he departed from them. Especially in De Ortu ct Causis does he quote largely from Aristotle's Meteorologica. Physica, and De Coelo on these subjects. There is a spurious work on stones attributed to Aristotle of some interest to mineralogists. It was probably the work of some Arab early in the Middle Ages.[ ]

APPENDIX B - DEVELOPMENT OF FOAM-CONCRETE SLURRY MINE SEALANT 1. Introduction This appendix describes the results of an experimental development and laboratory evaluation of foam-concrete as a rapid setting, lightweight, self-supporting mine sealant material. Foam concrete, otherwise known as Aerated Concrete, is a form of lightweight concrete whose structure consists of air bubbles held together by a hardened cement mortar. Its principal applications are found in roofing, insulation, shock absorbing, and backfill. The air bubbles in foam concrete are formed either by chemical reaction in the wet, placed mortar, or by introducing a stable foam into the mortar during mixing.
