Biotechnology has become a household word of the nineties, and it is expected to become as important in the next century as the computer is in the present. Numerous books and articles portray biotechnology developments as nothing less than a scientific revolution. Almost everywhere one looks new biotechnical breakthroughs are being reported that offer almost limitless opportunities to harness the force of living things to produce materials and manipulate their properties. Biotechnology has been broadly defined as any applications of biological organisms, systems, or processes to manufacturing and service industries. This seemingly new technology is, in fact, one of mankind's oldest scientific activities (Table l), which has been recently revolutionized by techniques of genetic engineering that arose out of basic research in biology, biochemistry, genetics, and information sciences. From fields as old as agriculture and medicine to those as new as monoclonal anti-bodies, transgenic plants, or biocomputers are encompassed by biotechnology. Like most human endeavors, industrial minerals play critical roles in biotechnology. In addition biotechnology holds real potential to improve extraction and beneficiation of certain industrial minerals themselves. BIOTECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW Companies using established biotechnical techniques make up large and diverse groups such as agriculture, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. The massive US Pharmacopia (Anon., 1990a) provides detailed specifications for minerals used in medicines. Alumina, zirconia, apatite, and bioactive glass have seen service as implant materials (Williams, 1990) and new uses for minerals in health sciences are being actively researched. Agriculture produced $361 billion worth of food and drink during 1991 in the United States; organic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and enzymes accounted for $68, $59, and $42 billion, respectively (Anon., 1992a). It is not possible to separate the contributions of industrial minerals to biotechnical products, but they represent a very large and rapidly growing new field of uses. The new biotechnology has nearly 300 small companies, plus 15 established companies with 742 biotechnology-related firms (Dibner, 1991b). Revenues exceeded $2 billion in 1990 and are expected to grow to $50 billion by 2000 (Anon., 1992c), with worldwide sales exceeding $100 billion (Burrill and Roberts, 1992). Federal research amounted to $3.4 billion in 1990 (Anon., 1992b). The United States is the world leader in biotechnology, but other countries have large, well-funded programs. Despite debate about safety, obstacles to new biotechnology products are declining (Embers, 1992, Gibbons, 1991). Fifteen biotechnology drugs valued at $1.2 billion (Thayer, 1991a) are on the market, and more than 100 are in various stages of testing (Edington, 1992). Many diagnostic tests are also in use or development (Demain, 1983, Anon., 1992). Large scale efforts to produce or transform important chemicals are also underway (Ng et al., 1983, Hinman, 1991), and research into geologic uses of biotechnology has begun. Much has been published about microbial mining, oil recovery, desulfurization, bioremediation, and other geologic aspects of biotechnology, but this chapter is the first attempt to explore interactions of biotechnology and industrial minerals. This chapter examines uses of minerals in biotechnology; how biotechnology can be used to discover, recover, and beneficiate industrial minerals; and speculates on some potential, but as yet untried uses. Definitions What exactly does the word biotechnology mean? Bud (1989) states that the first use of the term was by Karl Ereky in 1919 to cover the interaction of biology and technology, and in 1933 the term was used in Nature. After citing seven different definitions, Smith (1988) concludes that biotechnology is a series of enabling technologies involving practical applications of organisms or their subcellular components to manufacturing and service industries or to environmental management. Walker and Cox (1988) suggest a definition of "the practical applications of biological systems to the manufacturing and service industries and to the management of the environment." Primrose (1991) says that it is "the commercial exploitation of living organisms or their components." There is essentially an older broad use of the term and a new use. The US Office of Technology Assessment (Anon., 1984) uses a broad definition that includes any technique that uses living organisms (or parts of organisms) to make or modify products, to improve plants or animals, or to develop micro-organisms for specific uses. Definitions are different, but they all have several fundamental elements that include the control, management, or manipulation of living things for commercial, industrial, or useful ends. While such a definition encompasses all of agriculture in practice the "new" biotechnology is restricted to processes involving microorganisms-plant and animal cells, or enzymes. Many consider biotechnology to be recent, but it is one of our oldest technologies as evidenced by the prehistoric origin of brewing, cheese-making, and other techniques. [Table 1] gives some of the important developments in the history of biotechnology. Smith (1988) breaks down historical developments of biotechnology into four phases: 1) prehistoric with no understanding of underlying processes; 2) nonsterile processes; 3) sterile processes after 1940; and 4) genetic and recombinant DNA technology deliberate design of special organisms or processes.

In this chapter, I shall discuss railroad con¬struction for modern underground coal mines. Because men, materials, and supplies are being moved more often and farther by rail, the ef¬ficient and safe construction of the system takes on new importance. Most large coal mines are opting to use track haulage over other support transportation systems because of cost, ease of installation, reliability, and other factors. En¬gineers tackling the problem of designing such a transportation network must be aware of all the steps required for an effective transportation system design. This chapter discusses all aspects of efficient trackwork construction. The areas covered in¬clude design factors, laying the track, installing turnouts and switches, and installing trolley wire. Each area includes a description of the steps needed to complete the work.

Studies in eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia, and southwestern Pennsylvania determined whether subsidence caused by longwall mining influences soil moisture and tree growth. Soil moisture was measured both over new longwall panels and over an unmined control area throughout the growing seasons of 1990, a wet year when the panels were excavated, and 1991, a dry year. No significant effects of mining could be detected. Tree growth was studied in two pairs of woodlots. In each pair, one woodlot was located over a longwall panel excavated about 1980 and the other over an unmined area. Differences in tree growth between mined and unmined areas were neither significant (for most species) nor consistent in direction. The above results imply that if mining does have impacts they are likely to be highly site-specific and localized such as by disruptions of springs or soil slippage.

Due to grade, overburden depth and stability and the presence of groundwater it was considered impractical to recover gold contained in unconsolidated palaeochannel sediments by conventional mining, dredging or borehole mining techniques. A series of field experiments was conducted to determine the feasibility of recovery of gold by in situ leaching from sediments located at a depth of about 80 metres. The test wellfield site and plant are described together with field test procedures, results and wellfield rehabilitation procedures. Choice of sodium cyanide as leachant and laboratory testing are discussed in relation to groundwater and sediment chemistry and problems encountered in field tests.

GEORGE WEINMAN: Our first group leader for the discussion, "Ups and Downs of Downsizing," wishes to remain anonymous. ANONYMOUS PRESENTER: When George and Jamie asked me to do this, I thought a while about what to say and went through several variations of what I’ll present today. I came up with the title "Ups and Downs of Downsizing." A lot of downsizing has occurred in all of our industries-mining in particular. While this downsizing has gone on there's no doubt that all of us produced more and more, probably with less and less people and less and less resources. But I contend that there's also a big downside associated with this. I disagree with a point made in the keynote presentation yesterday, the point being that vendors are bringing new technology to us. I can agree that the major changes associated with equipment and similar items are being brought to us by vendors. But I do contend that there's an awful lot that's getting away from us-especially if you factor in the integrated supply or the strategic alliance or the various and sundry related purchasing techniques. I contend that we are missing a lot of, let's call it, lesser technology; not major equipment changes, but different tools, different techniques for doing things, different left-handed widgets. The integrated suppliers, to some degree, are bringing this to us; but I am concerned about the small guy who comes up with a good idea but deals through integrated suppliers rather than having direct contact with plant people. They're probably going to go somewhere else and market their wares. That's what I'm hearing from a lot of smaller vendors. I also think that we are losing a lot of our knowledge base. Every time you shrink an organization somebody leaves. The bottom line: less people. When a person leaves-and I don't care who he or she is, be it the janitor who's cleaning the bathroom, the operator, the engineer-when that person leaves there's some knowledge that goes with that per- son. And sometimes that knowledge is quite valuable. I've worked more or less at the plant "low." I can't tell you how many excellent, viable projects have come from people who said, "Look here. There's a better way of doing this." And, you know, they were right. Now, maybe they didn't have the resources or the expertise to develop these ideas into full projects, but they had that basic idea. Someone may say, "Well, if we put a no. 6 skyhook here, so we can lift this particular pump without bringing a crane from 30 miles away ...." No. 6 skyhooks are a bit expensive, but what if we put together a little structural steel here or whatnot?

The tailings produced from the Kirki (Agios Filippos) high sulfidation epithermal deposit processing plant are laminated, weakly cemented and their particle size ranges from fine sand to fine silt. They are mainly composed of milling residues of gangue (quartz, dickite/kaolinite, pyrophyllite, illite); sulfides and secondary minerals (jarosite group minerals, butlerite, anglesite, beudantite and gypsum) are present to a lesser extent. They have high Pb and Zn (average 0.75 % and 0.57 % respectively) and low S (1.04 to 2.92 %), Cu, As, Cd, Ni and Sb content (average 248, 163, 59, 27, 20 g/t respectively). Stagnant waters forming small ponds on the surface of the impoundments exhibit low pH and high heavy metal and sulfate concentrations. Negative Net Neutralization Potential (NNP) characterizes the tailings, indicating moderate to high potential for acid generation. Application of the TCLP test revealed that the tailings are characterized as toxic because of the increased solubility of Pb and Cd. On the other hand, As TCLP solubility is very low.

ITEC Environmental Colorado has begun reprocessing the tailings from old mining sites near Boulder, CO. And if the technology behind ITEC's pilot project at Gold Hill proves successful and profitable, the company plans to launch similar reprocessing operations in other parts of the state. The pilot project is under the watchful eye of state and federal authorities. They hope the technology becomes the answer to cleaning up old mining sites throughout the West. Remining and environmental cleanup on an economic basis, then, are ITEC's hopes in one the most environmentally conscious counties in the state. Clean up the mine dump sites and recycle the land, for a profit. In June 1998, ITEC Mineral Inc., ITEC Environmental Colorado's Canadian parent, acquired the Gold [ ] Hill Mill facility in Boulder County. Included in the acquisition was 4.4 hm2 (11 acres) containing the Gold Hill Mill and 283 hm2 (700 acres) of additional properties adjacent to the facility. ITEC estimates that there are about 910 kt (1 million st) of dump rock in the area. That is enough to make the operation viable. ITEC will sell the metals recovered through its reprocessing operations. However, due to low metals prices, ITEC is not expecting to make much money on the recovery of precious and base metals. Instead, the company plans to resell the reclaimed land for residential and commercial development or open space. The Gold Hill Mill site is the first of 17 sites in Colorado that ITEC Mineral hopes to clean up and recycle the land. Most notable among the sites is the historic Central City/Black Hawk mining district, which ITEC believes holds considerable potential. The Gold Hill Mill is located 14 km (9 miles) west of the city of Boulder and less than a half mile from the small town of Gold Hill. The mill was. last operated in 1992. The operation was forced to close that year due to environmental and cash flow problems. Gold Hill is in the middle of a region with more than 32 Mt (35 million st) of mine tailings. Independent geologists have' established the average grade of the Gold Hill mine tailings to be 4.5 to 5.3 g/t (0.13 to 0.155 oz/st) of gold and 28 to 44 g/t (0.83 to 1.29 oz/st) of silver. According to these studies, the Gold Hill mine tailings are five times richer in precious metals than the tailings of the Norebec Manitou property in Canada that ITEC is also remining, reclaiming and restoring. Upon acquiring the mill, ITEC undertook a refurbishing program that included adding a second ball mill. This increased the Gold Hill Mill's capacity to 180 t/d (200 stpd). The operation employs 15 people. "The Gold Hill Mill site will demonstrate the efficiency of our integrated remining, reclaiming and restoration process," said Maxine Stewart, president of Denver, CO -based ITEC Environmental. "The abundance of similar mine sites in Colorado presents a number of opportunities to bring the benefits of the ITEC system to other communities around the state." Holly Huyck is technical advisor to the Clear Creek Watershed Advisory Group. She said: "ITEC is cleaning up an orphan mine site that otherwise would continue to contaminate the Boulder Creek watershed with acid and excess metals. This is a win-win situation: ITEC gains marketable minerals while it reclaims mined land and helps to improve the watershed."

The shift to lower grade iron ores, e.g., magnetic taconites, resulted in a shift towards agglomeration practices which could effectively deal with the fine particle sizes generated in the liberation and concentration processes. If the iron bearing particles are not extremely fine, e.g., -1/2 in + 100 mesh, sintering is an adequate means of agglomeration.(1) For the more dispersed ores which result in fine concentrates (more than 80%,-325 mesh), the fine particles must be agglomerated by mechanical means before final hardening, e.g., pelletizing.(1) In the pelletizing process, the essentially mechanical step of balling is extremely critical since the strength of the pre-fired pellet determines the firing conditions. The ability of the proper amount of moisture to hold together a ball of the very fine ore concentrate particles has long been recognized. It is a charac¬teristic of the reaction at the interface between the ionic solid of the ore concentrate and the polar water phase which overlays the solids. The strength in such moisture laden balls, the green strength, is a strong function of the water content (Figure 1) and thus deteriorates rapidly for either a small excess or a small deficiency of moisture. For purposes of commercial practice, the control of green ball handling properties by accurate control of ball moisture is too demanding. Moreover, as the ball is heated towards its hardening tempera¬ture, e.g., 1300'C, there is a substantial drying reaction which would lead to such a low dry strength of the ball that it would not support its own weight much less the weight of other balls in a firing furnace.

Spectroscopic techniques are becoming increasingly popular for characterizing the interior of adsorbed layers of surfactants and polymers at solid- liquid interface as well as in the identification of com- pounds on mineral surfaces. This review encompasses the application of fluorescence and ESR spectroscopic techniques to reveal the microscopic environment of the adsorbed layers of surfactants and polymers on minerals with a special reference to the adsorption of anionic surfactants (e.g., sodium dodecyl sulfate) and polyelectrolytes (e.g., polyacrylic acid) at positively charged mineral (e.g., alumina) - water interfaces. Finally, the utility of XPS and auger techniques to identify the surface elemental composition of different mineral species has been related to their flotation efficiency.

Significance of grinding media wear and its effect on chalcopyrite flotation are discussed. Laboratory marked ball wear tests were conducted grinding chalcopyrite ore and quartzite dry, wet, and with collector added during grinding. The effects of oxygen and nitrogen on ball wear were evaluated by the addition of chalcopyrite mineral while grinding quartzite. The effect of dry and wet grinding on chalcopyrite flotation was also studied. Results show abrasive wear is greater in quartzite grinding than in grinding chalcopyrite. Oxygen increases the corrosive wear of high carbon low alloy steel balls in the presence of chalcopyrite ore. Chalcopyrite flotation was retarded due to wet grinding in the presence of oxygen. Though collector reagent increased the media wear, it improved the flotation of chalcopyrite. Probable electrochemical reactions encountered in a grinding mill are outlined.

11.1-FRAGMENTATION PRINCIPLES WARREN W. KRECH Energy must be supplied to rock by direct or indirect means to fragment that rock. The amount is dependent upon the properties of the rock and the type of loading system. Fragmentation energy is consumed by three main mechanisms: (1) creation of new surface area (fracture energy), (2) friction (plasticity) and (3) elastic wave energy dispersion. The loading method determines the relative proportions and the amount of energy consumed in fragmenting a given rock type. Unconfined tensile failure consumes the least energy, with an increasing amount of energy required as the rock is more highly confined within a compressive stress field during fragmentation. The way energy is applied by tools to cause rock or mineral fragmentation is important in determining fragmentation efficiency. Rock-tool interaction should always be controlled to the fullest extent possible to optimize the combination of rate of energy input and fragmentation energy requirements. While the direct cost of energy, (dollars per horsepower-hour) may at first glance appear low relative to other hourly costs, there is a tie between power consumption and other cost factors, such as maintenance and wear. A high rate of energy application utilizing a rock-tool interaction producing only unconfined tensile failure would provide the most efficient fragmentation. No tool that produces a combination of high energy input rate and a loading system that produces failure under only conditions of unconfined tensile load now exists. Present mining methods and tools produce failure under conditions of high compressive confinement, high dispersive energy loss and high frictional energy requirements. Thus, while generally applying energy at high rates, they are highly inefficient with respect to energy consumed in fragmenting rock. To best design fragmentation tools and optimize fragmentation systems it would be desirable to know how rock properties influence breakage. At present, rock properties directly- related to fragmentation are undefined. Although present testing technology- does not permit rigorous definition of in-situ rock fragmentation behavior, several properties (mechanical and physical) commonly are used to indicate the relative case with which rock breaks. The more common test is for uniaxial compressive or tensile strength of cylindrical cores taken from intact portions of the in-situ rock (testing details are provided ill Sec. 6.2, Rock Mechanics). The strength of rock is influenced by the environmental conditions imposed on the rock. Those of most importance in rock are (1) confining pressure. (2) pore fluid pressure, (3) temperature and (4) rate of load application. Increase in confining pressure, as with increasing depth beneath the earth's surface or under the action of a fragmentation tool, causes an increase in rock strength. Increases from atmospheric pressure to 10.000 psi commonly cause up to n fourfold increase in the compressive strength of crystalline rock. Apparent rock strength decreases as pore fluid pressure increases, since it decreases the effect of confining pressure. The effective stress concept of soil mechanics generally applies to rock. Although chemical effects of pore fluids influence rock strength, they geologically are small compared to the confining pressure effect, except for a small minority of rock types. Doyashiki Concentrator in Hanaoka mine of Dowa Mining Co., Ltd. started the operation in 1943, treating the ore mainly from Doyashiki ore deposits. After the cessation of mining of Doyashiki ore body in 1973, Doyashiki concentrator began to treat the ore from Fukazawa mine instead in the same year, and furthermore the ore from Ezuri mine In 1979. Currently Doyashiki concentrator treats 30,000 tons of ore per month from both mines. The ore treated is complex sulfide ore, called "Kuroko" (black ore), and the principal minerals contained in the ore are chalcopyrite, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and barite, accompanied by bornite, tetrahedrite, tennantite, covellite, stromeyerite, argentite, polybasite, pearcite, and electrum. The Principal gangue minerals are quartz, gypsum and clay. The grade of the feed to the concentrator averages 0.9 p/t Au, 110 g/t Ag, 1.1 %Cu, 2.8 %Pb, 9.2 %Zn, 5.0 % Pyrite-S and 13% BaS04. The feed is, after washing and two-stage crushing, ground to 88% minus 200 mesh in a rod mill and ball mills with cyclone classifiers, and five concentrates are recovered by flotation. Primarily copper-lead bulk concentrate is recovered by sulfurous acid-lime flotation method, and then from the bulk concentrate copper concentrate is floated by hot pulp flotation method, sinks being lead concentrate. Zinc concentrate is recovered from the tailing of copper-lead bulk flotation, pyrite concentrate from zinc flotation tailing and barite concentrate from pyrite flotation tailing. The final tailing is sent to the dam.

Thiourea is being applied as an industrial leaching agent for gold and silver only in a few cases. A CIP technique was developed which eliminates most of the obstacles against its use. Mild conditions for precious metals stripping from the loaded carbon simplifies process conditions in comparison to cyanide CIP technique. Examples are given.

A vital aspect of environmental impact assessment for surface mining operations is the determination of potential effects on water resources. This topic has been the subject of much recent concern, controversy and legislation. As increasing data become available regarding the types of hydrologic effects that may be anticipated, methods for safe guarding our water resources can be refined. In view of our current energy situation, the need to develop coal re- sources in a timely and economic manner is apparent. The challenge to the mining industry is to develop these resources in a manner that is also compatible with the beneficial use of water resources in mining regions. For this reason, thorough evaluation of the hydrology of potential mining areas in consideration of proposed mining processes and relevant legal criteria is essential. While pre-mining hydrologic investigations often suggest generalized potential effects, a more reliable method for evaluating specific potential effects is to establish and maintain a hydrologic monitoring program. Such a program must be carefully designed to suit the specific project and its location. This paper describes an approach for selection of criteria for designing a monitoring program for a proposed coal surface mining operation and gasification plant in southwest North Dakota. Woodward-Clyde Consultants (WCC), recently prepared an environ- mental impact report for the ANG Coal Gasification Company (ANG), a subsidiary of the American Natural Gas Company. The mining will be carried out by The North American Coal Corporation (NACCO). Preparation of the report provided the opportunity for the development of a sensitive and economical monitoring program which would function as a baseline hydrological data gathering network as well as act an an early detection system for hydrologic effects of the proposed mining.

Two porphyry copper orebodies, the North and Central MM orebodies, have been found through regional and structural geologic works, about 5 Km south of Chuquicamata, under a gravel bed of approximately 100 m and in the west side of the West Fissure. The mineralization is emplaced in a coarse granodioritic porphyry, predominantly with sericitic alteration. In the North MM ore-body, with 200 million metric tons of 1.0% Cu, the mineralization is mainly chalcopyrite, bornite, digenite and molibdenite. In the central MM orebody, with 700 million metric tons of 1.3% Cu, there are large veins of enargite, chalcocite and bornite, the last one increasing in depth, separated by chalcopyrite and pyrite zones; in these veins there are interesting gold and silver values. Both orebodies have an upper enrichment of chalcocite and covellite, with pyrite envelope. According with these characteristics, the MM orebodies could he the upper part, with sericitic alteration, of the Chuquicamata porphyry copper system, displaced by the West Fissure system movements, but we couldn't eliminate the possibility that MM can be a new orebody, different of Chuquicamata.

The dissolution behavior of palladium powder in thiourea solutions was investigated. The variables studied were temperature, stirring speed and the concentrations of thiourea, acid and ferric ion. Palladium was found to be soluble in thiourea solutions in the presence of an oxidant such as ferric ion. The dissolution of palladium in thiourea solutions was believed to be chemical-reaction controlled, with an apparent activation energy of about 25.3 kJ/mol.

The natural hydrophobic response flotation method for beneficiation of printed circuit board comminution fines (PCB CF) still requires many studies to further basic understanding of the process and the flotation traits that the PCB CF presents. Varying particle size distribution (PSD) and water recovery under the scheme show that higher mass pull, obtained at the finer PSD, gave lower water recovery but higher value loss. The reverse also holds: the least mass pull at the coarsest PSD used, -106 + 75 µm, gave the highest water recovery per unit mass pull with the highest reverse recovery. This is unlike what obtains in primary resources processing, where higher water recovery is often with increased fines entrainment. The reverse recovery loss here is, therefore, more due to entrapment with the heavy mass pull characteristic of the method than to the entrainment of value with water. Other peculiarities of the system observed are discussed, with the goal of improving the performance of the process, and broadening the general knowledge of flotation systems.

In 1994, McGill University and INCO Ltd. (Sudbury operation) initiated the transfer of technology originally developed to detect levels in equipment ranging from flotation columns to thickeners. A conductivity probe was installed in a concentrate thickener to monitor the mud line and the solids load. The probe consisted of a vertical tube with 32 equally spaced electrode rings connected in pairs to give 31 conductivity cells. Conductivity was measured as a function of depth to produce a conductivity profile. From the conductivity profile, the mud line and the percent solids can be inferred. The probe was installed in October 1994, and it has been successfully detecting profiles since then. This paper includes a description of the incidents that occurred and the experiences gained during this technology-transfer process. Discussed is probe installation and startup; software modifications to accommodate both operating conditions and the needs of the operators; and calibration procedures to adjust to changes in performance as a consequence of long-term use. Also included are preliminary observations of the still-in-progress last stage, i.e., signal interpretation and use to facilitate operation, particularly by providing early reaction to upstream disturbances.

Este capítulo presenta- un "caso histórico" de los pasos a dar para estimar IDS castes de capital y operativos para un concentrador típico de cobre porfirico de ± 9;070 toneladas métricas de producción diaria. El concentrador que se describe es hipotético, pero está basado en la experiencia propia y es, en efecto, una composición de varios proyectos reales. Las cifras utilizadas son ilustrativas solamente y no representan los castes reales de ningún lavadero en particular. Estas cifras son, sin embargo, representativas de los castes tipicos de molienda en un punto en el tiempo y son to suficientemente precisas coma para iIustrar los procedimientos de estimación de castes descriIos en este capítulo, No es posible publicar cifras reales y corrientes de los castes del lavadero y, en cualquier caso, las cifras de Ios castes reales pierden rápidamente su significación en Ia actual situación económica con los rápidos incrementos de las diversas partidas que configuran los castes. El trabajo está dividido en tres partes: (1) orden de la magnitud estimada, (2) estimación def estudio de viabilidad, y (3) comparación entre los castes estimados y los castes rea¬les. Con vistas a este trabajo supondremas que una mina tiene una propiedad minera explorada mediante perforación con testigos que refleja un yacimiento, ampliamente definido, como de unas 45,3 millones de toneladas métricas con una ley del d,6°/ de sulfuro de cobre, Esta compañia desea obtener primero una estimación del orden de magnitud de los costes (canto de los costes operativos como del capital) para determinar si la pertenencia garantiza más perforación y desmuestre de testigos. Suponiendo que esta evaluación económica obtenida utiIizando Ia orden de Ia magnitud de Ios costes sea favorable, sera a continuación requerido un estudio de viabilidad más preciso de los castes de capital y operativos. Seguidamente of recemas una descripción de los diferentes pasos dadospara desarrollar ]as costes del orden de primera magnitud y a continuación para los castes del estudio de viabilidad.
