The Kiruna area is an important mining province in northern Sweden, which is dominated by Fe- and Cu-Au deposits. Economically most important for the region, are the apatite iron ores with an annual production of c. 43 M ton of crude Fe-ore and a total production of more than 2000 M ton of ore the last 100 years. The apatite iron ores in the Kiruna area are dominated by either Magnetite or Haematite and contain varying amounts of apatite giving them a content of Fe and P, which varies between 30-70 % and 0.05-5 %, respectively. A typical geochemical feature of the ores is the strong enrichment of REE that is caused by a high content of REE in apatite and the occurrence of Allanite and Monazite containing 22.4 and 69.8 wt% REO, respectively. At Kiirunavaara, the content of REE in apatite varies between 0.07 to 1.57 wt% REO with a dominance for the light rare earths. The variation in REE-content of apatite depending on textural and paragenetic aspects is not known but apatite grains may display a strong LREE-depletion due to hydrothermal alteration. Monazite occurs as rod-shaped or tabular inclusions in apatite and is suggested, to have formed in response to hydrothermal alteration of apatite after the emplacement of the ore. Inclusions are mainly found in the central part of apatite grains occurring in veins and schliren, while they are rare in apatite occurring disseminated in the ore. Monazite also occurs as larger grains outside apatite and together with Allanite is found in texturally and paragenetically different settings within the ore. These occurrences of REE-minerals may largely be a product of LREE mobilized by alteration of apatite after the emplacement of the ore. However, REE-minerals including Allanite and Monazite might also have formed directly from late magmatic fluids. Given the global scarcity and value of potable water, interest in the use of water of lower quality in mineral processing has grown significantly in recent years. Previous laboratory batch flotation tests conducted at CSIRO have shown that chalcopyrite floats strongly without collector in distilled water and that the collectorless flotability of chalcopyrite is unaffected by the use of brackish water, sea water or hypersaline water. In contrast, bornite is moderately flotable without collector in distilled water but all three lower-quality waters have a detrimental effect on the recovery of bornite. The depressant effect is so strong that the little recovery achieved in these waters was only slightly above what might have been expected from entrainment alone. This work has now been extended to another important copper sulfide mineral, chalcocite. In contrast to chalcopyrite and bornite, chalcocite does not exhibit collectorless flotability so the chalcocite tests in this study were performed in the presence of a standard collector (potassium ethyl xanthate). The results reveal that chalcocite is flotable with xanthate in distilled water but the lower-quality waters have a detrimental effect on the recovery of chalcocite. This effect is partly reversed by increase collector additions. Further tests were completed in order to investigate the effect of the different ions present in the saline waters on chalcocite flotation. Possible reasons for the observed differences are discussed in terms of the pulp chemistry of the system.

Coal is the prime source of energy in India. It now contributes to about 55% of the total power generation and will continue to have its major share in the energy mix of the country in the foreseeable future. Thermal coals of India, known for their wide variations in nature and categorized as difficult to wash due to their typical mineral matter association with the organic matrix, need suitable beneficiation technique for quality upgrade for improving the overall economics, efficiency and pollution free power generation. A non-coking high-ash coal, collected from Vasundhara open cast mine of the Ib Valley Coalfield, Orissa, has been characterized along with its different fractions obtained in the process of beneficiation for distribution of minerals using FTIR, XRD and ash analysis. The raw coal was fractionated by size as well as by density. It has been observed that ash yields and mineralogical composition (found to be mainly kaolinite and quartz) have no appreciable change in different size fractions, indicating homogeneous distribution of minerals in the coal matrix. However, for the different density fractions the mineral composition and ash yield have significant variations. The quartz content of the beneficiated coal visualized with 34% ash yield, as mandated by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF) for the use of coal in power plants is reduced to half of that of the raw coal. As quartz is the most abrasive mineral in coal, reduction of its proportion obviously signifies considerable reduction of wear of power plant machinery when beneficiated coal is fed to utility boiler for generation of power. The design of a hydrometallurgical process starts with the analysis of the raw materials to be treated, for example mineralogy, chemistry, deposit size are analysed. Based on this information suitable unit processes for pre-treatment, leaching, solution purification and product recovery are selected. Typically, process design for the new ore deposit relies on laboratory tests such as pre-treatment and leaching experiments. The experimental work is the most time consuming and expensive part of the process design. Reducing the number of experiments would shorten the time of designing a new flowsheet or development of new process technology. A large amount of information is available about the hydrometallurgical experiments and the amount is increasing continuously. For example, word search using ?hydrometallurgy? from Scopus database results in over 4 000 publications with the word in title, abstract or keywords. This number consists of 2 500 articles, 900 conference papers, and 90 reviews since 1972. The number of hydrometallurgical publications per year has increased from 13 in 1972 to 150-200 in the last few years. The objective of this study was to analyze how detailed data of experiments about the gold extraction is published and how that data could be exploited more effectively when designing hydrometallurgical processing for new ore. The leading idea is that similar ores should have the similar response in leaching. If the published information was used more efficiently, the amount of experiments would be reduced. More than 200 cases of experimental data of gold leaching have been analyzed for this study. There are over 30 factors that could be used in comparison when selecting process alternatives, but challenging fact is that not all these factors are documented in all publications. Results show that the usefulness of the published data in the development of hydrometallurgical flow sheet for gold using decision-support tools is not that straightforward. The quality of the published information about gold extraction varied between the publications and the descriptions of the raw materials, experimental arrangements and results were often missing details. Methods to normalize the data for description of the cases and a system to describe different features unambiguously are needed. "The use of thiosulfate as an alternative lixiviant for cyanide to treat complex refractory ores followed by the use of ion exchange resins (IX resins) for gold recovery has become an industrial reality. In this study, polyethylenimine (PEI) coated iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) were used to recover gold from the leaching solutions that consist of calcium thiosulfate, copper and gold. The gold loaded MNPs were easily separated from the solution using an external magnetic field. Proposing a novel adsorbent with characteristically easy solid-liquid separation, to recover gold from synthetic thiosulfate leaching solutions and gold elution and reuse of MNPs were the main objectives of this study. Adsorption isotherm studies revealed that the data fitted both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models equally well. The maximum adsorption capacity was 18.5 mg/g at pH 8 and 50?C. According to thermodynamic studies the physisorption process was exothermic and spontaneous. Gold and copper elution, and the regeneration and reuse of the nanoparticles were investigated and promising results were obtained. Different elution systems comprising sulfites, chlorides, glycine, EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and sodium hydroxide were considered. Among them, EDTA for copper elution and NaOH for gold elution were the most efficient eluants. Regeneration and reuse studies revealed that the MNPs can be used for several cycles without significant performance loss. INTRODUCTION Although cyanidation has been used for gold leaching for more than 100 years, some major drawbacks associated with cyanidation have led to a quest for alternative lixiviants for gold leaching. Cyanide is ineffective in treating carbonaceous refractory ores as gold cyanide complex is adsorbed onto the native carbon in the ore itself known as preg-robbing. On the other hand environmental concerns associated with cyanidation drives the need for environmental friendly alternatives for cyanide. As of today, thiosulfate is known to be the most extensively studied and most promising alternative lixiviant for cyanide in both technical and environmental perspectives (Aylmore and Muir 2001, Oraby 2009)."

In this study, batch flotation experiments were conducted to recover rare earth elements (REE) from an REE ore deposit in the Mushgai Khudag area, Mongolia. Apatite was found to be the major REE mineral while monazite and xenomite were observed as minor minerals. The main purpose was to float apatite to increase the REE content. Oleic acid was used as collector and MIBC was used as frother. Sodium silicate was used as a depressant for iron compounds. NaOH was used to adjust the pH of the flotation to about 9.5~10.0. The particle size was 90% less than 152 ?m (- 100 mesh). The content of REE elements was analysed by ICP - OES to determine the contents of REE such as Ce, La, Nd, Pr and Y. When sodium silicate was used, the best result was obtained using 0.2 mL of sodium silicate, 2 mL of oleic acid and 2 mL of MIBC. Under these conditions, the recovery of REE was about 78% and the grade of the first froth product was 42,995 ppm Ce, 24,088 ppm La, 14,236 ppm Nd, 4,388 ppm Pr and 1,570 ppm Y. When conducting flotation after iron minerals were removed by magnetic separation, a better result was obtained; with 2 mL of oleic acid, 2 mL of MIBC and no sodium silicate, the recovery was increased to 90% and the grade was also increased to 58,600 ppm Ce, 28,624 ppm La, 17,160 ppm Nd, 5,348 ppm Pr and 1,971 ppm Y.

Adsorption isotherms of the mentioned metals from individual solutions for different free cyanide concentrations have been obtained. Values of the constants of Freundlich isotherm equation have been calculated. Metal cyanide complexes affinity to activated carbon was determined.

"Industrial dusts are commonly agglomerated using empirical recipes with binders such as bentonite, while Sludges are agglomerated into mixes. Those materials contaminate the products, are expensive and generate significant amounts of slag. Achieving cold dust agglomeration with little or no binder requires understanding the controlling parameters in order to predict and optimize the process behavior. This in turn necessitates comprehensive dust characterization to base predictions on measurable characteristics. In the present work we collected 13 Mn-rich dusts over all the process chain: feed fines, smelting, and refining dusts, as well as ferromanganese alloy dust. This is the first systematic study of dusts along the Mn-processing chain for chemical, physical and mineralogical parameters. X-Ray Diffraction, Qemscan® and laser granulometry analyses show that the mineralogy, Particle Size Distribution (PSD) and morphology evolves from complex heterogenous to simple, homogenous along the process chain: The mineralogy of the primary ore dusts shows various hydroxides, oxides, carbonates, tectosilicates and phyllosilicates. The furnace dusts contain oxides, tectosilicates and carbonates with volatiles, while the refining dusts present only oxides and metal. Finally, the Metal dust is nearly pure metal. Particle morphologies and PSD vary from jagged, irregular particles with broad PSD (>1 mm to <0.3 µm) to smooth and spherical with narrow PSD (100 µm to <0.3 µm). The Metal dust is an exception with angular particles. The Cationic Exchange Capacities (CECs) of all samples range from 0 to 22 meq/100g. Specific surface areas (SSAs) range from <0.1 to 27m²/g, and seem to decrease with from ore feed to Metal dust. This may be due to the disappearance of hydrated and/or sheet-bearing minerals, since a smaller grain size usually implies an increased SSA. The zeta potential varies strongly over the range of the samples tested. However, beside the Gabon ore which has an Isoelectric Point (IEP) ~ 4.1, the other IEP ranges between 2 and 2.5."

The traditional comminution circuit is a major consumer of energy ? both as electrical energy and through consumption of media and wear resistant liners. Up to 40% of electrical energy con-sumed at a mine site is attributed to comminution however only a few percent of this energy is used in the generation of new surfaces from size reduction. This paper describes the evaluation of modifications using simulation models based on two operating comminution circuits. The aim of these modifications is to decrease both the amount of electrical energy consumed in the size reduction process, known as direct energy, as well as to decrease the consumption of grinding consumables such as steel grinding media and mill liners, designated as indirect energy. The approach is two-fold: ??Employ, where possible, autogenous grinding techniques to eliminate the need for grinding media and reduce mill liner wear. ??Optimise the use of the grinding energy distribution in the comminution circuit by using more energy efficient grinding devices to target typically problematic features of a comminution circuit such as critical size material from the primary mill and overgrinding in the secondary mill. The investigations show that significant total energy savings, as high as 50% in some cases, can be achieved by employing the techniques described while maintaining circuit throughput and product size. Investigations also show potential benefits in downstream flotation processes as the product size distribution generated from the eco-efficient circuit is generally ?narrower? in shape for improved flotation performance and containing less material in the coarse fraction for overall better liberation.

Numerous phosphate mineral depressants have been reported in the literature for use during anionic flotation of dolomite from carbonate fluorapatite in slightly acid circuits. In one part of this research, laboratory flotation experiments were conducted to compare the effectiveness of phosphate depressants to process ground, deslimed high-MgO Florida phosphate pebbles. Ten potential phosphate depressants were evaluated during laboratory anionic flotation of dolomite from phosphate in a slightly acid circuit using a sulfonated oleic acid soap plus oil as the dolomite collector. Eight of the depressants have been used by various investigators with foreign and domestic carbonate-phosphate ores. Four of the depressants were found to be reasonably effective during the current flotation study, namely: sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP) and diphosphonic acid (DPA). Without depressants, the sulfonate collector required to produce cell underflow phosphate products containing <0.80% MgO and MgO/ P2O5 ratio <.033 was 1.13 kg/ton of flotation feed at a flotation pH range = 5.5-6.0. Using this collector level with 0.91 - 1.36 kg/ton of feed of STPP, SHMP or TSPP yielded phosphate products analyzing 0.73-0.92% MgO and MgO/ P2O5 ratios = .027-.034 at 90.0-96.8% P2O5 recovery. Similar grade phosphate products were obtained using DPA as the phosphate depressant at 84.1-87.5% P2O5 recovery. When no depressant was used, a similar grade phosphate product was obtained at only 65.9% P2O5 recovery. Another part of the research aimed at reducing MgO content in the final concentrate from Florida phosphate plants by conducting dolomite flotation on the final concentrate. Numerous phosphate depressants were tested for this purpose, including acidic, neutral and alkaline reagents. The most effective phosphate depressant was found to be phosphoric acid, giving both high grade and recovery.

In the last 4 years, the high price of silver attracted more interest for improving its extraction. Metallic silver and silver minerals require a high concentration of cyanide and show slow leaching rates and poor extraction. This investigation determined the effects of dissolved oxygen, lead nitrate and a pretreatment on silver leaching from slurry containing quartz mixed with metallic silver and high purity acanthite. Stephanite, pyrargyrite and polybasite were also used in the study. The silver minerals were characterized by chemical assay, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), image analysis (MP-SEM-IPS) and electron microprobe analysis (EMPA). Increased dissolved oxygen of the slurry produced the fastest silver leaching kinetics. The leaching of silver from high purity acanthite was determined under various conditions and compared to a new process called ?CANMET Enhanced Leaching Process (CELP). For a slurry containing acanthite, a 23% improvement (from 76% to 99%) in silver extraction was obtained with the CELP. In presence of pyrargyrite and polybasite, silver extraction increased from 75% to 90% and 86% to 99% respectively using the CELP. No improvement was obtained for the slurry with stephanite (99% extraction in 72 hours). However, the sliver leaching rate was much faster with the CELP. XPS analysis of individual silver mineral particles showed that CELP leached surfaces were considerably more oxidized relative to the conventional cyanidation leached surfaces. Leaching of two gold/silver ores indicated that the efficiency of the CELP increased with the refractoriness of the sample. Gold extractions were comparable for the two technologies while silver extraction improved up to 5% (70g/t) for the CELP. The final leach solutions contained lower concentrations of copper, which consequently reduces the effluent treatment costs.

Slag foaming occurs in several pyrometallurgical processes. These processes include steelmaking in basic oxygen steelmaking furnaces and electric arc furnaces as well as various non-ferrous operations like sulphide smelting/converting and base metal slag cleaning. Although slag foaming in steelmaking processes has been extensively researched, little attention has been given to slag foaming in non-ferrous operations. Slag foaming phenomena are complex because often the system consists of three or more phases. With this in mind, factors previously identified as influencing slag foaming were investigated. These include the slag basicity, physical properties of the slag, namely viscosity, surface tension and density, the formation of particles due to undercooling of the slag and the FexO concentration in the slag. The effect of increasing FexO concentration was found to decrease the foam index due to lower viscosities, but higher surface tension depression appears to have led to increased foam index values at high FexO concentrations. The foaming index decreases with increasing basicity, until precipitation of solids occurs. After this point, the foaming index was found to increase with increasing basicity due to increased solids precipitation. In general, increasing amounts of slag-wettable solids led to higher foam indices, but the precise nature of the effect on slag foaming was dependant on the nature of the solid precipitate.

"Indian coal industry is the world's third largest in terms of production and fourth largest in terms of proven coal resources. Indian coal deposits are generally of high ash content varying from 24 to 50%. The coking coal reserves of India constitute about 12% of the total coal inventory, and the coals are washed in washeries, before being used for metallurgical purposes. The processes used for washing coking coal is Jigs, Heavy medium bath and Cyclones for the sizes upto 0.5mm, while the coal fines are washed in spirals and conventional flotation cells. Extensive studies were carried out for understanding the performance of an operating conventional flotation plant. The performance studies revealed that appreciable quantity of clean coal is being lost in the tailings due to varied reasons and the required quantity and quality was not achieved. In this study, laboratory Flotation experiments were carried out to examine the cleaning characteristics of the said tailing and to determine the effective process parameters for recovery of clean coal at desired ash level ( 16-17%). Response Surface Methodology was applied to investigate the operating conditions of the Froth Flotation for modeling and optimization. Primary study reflects that there is a possibility to recover clean coal at 16-17% ash level with a yield of about 60-70% from that Flotation tailing of feed ash about 28%.INTRODUCTIONMost of the Indian coking coals are difficult in cleaning characteristics and high ash content due to its drift origin and its age of formation for more than 225 million years. Indian coking coal reserve is limited about 12% of total coal reserve. The minerals are homogeneously mixed with the coal macerals. The open cast mining practice and mechanized mining methods are being adopted to meet the increasing demands of coals resulting in generation of more coal fines and subsequently the quality is deteriorated. Indian good quality coking coal reserves of higher seams are fast depleting and hence coking coals of difficult cleaning characteristics of lower seams (LVC) are being now explored. Due to increased mechanization of coal mines to cope up the increased demand and followed by size reduction of lower seam coals in search of better liberation , the coal fines are increasing by leaps and bounds. The processes used for washing coking coal is Jigs, Heavy medium bath and Cyclones for the sizes upto 0.5mm, while the coal fines are washed in spirals and conventional flotation cells."

An approach to environmental sustainability and improved process economy, in sulphide minerals production is recycling of process water in flotation of complex sulphide ores, although the chemistry of process water may be a critical issue to flotation efficiency. The influence of major components of calcium and sulphate ions in process water on xanthate collector adsorption and flotation response using pure chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite minerals were investigated by Hallimond flotation, zeta-potential measurement, FTIR and XPS spectroscopy studies, while bench scale flotation tests were also carried out using complex sulphide ores. The impact of the species in flotation was comprehended using deionised water, tap water, process water and simulated water containing equivalent amount of calcium and sulphate species in process water. Hallimond flotation results showed a decrease of chalcopyrite and galena recovery in process water and also in the presence of calcium and sulphate ions in both deionised and process waters, whereas sphalerite does not respond to flotation. The adsorption of calcium and metal ions but not sulphate ions on the minerals is evidenced by zeta-potential data. FTIR and XPS studies revealed the presence of surface oxidized sulfoxy species and surface calcium carbonates on chalcopyrite in the presence of process water and water containing calcium ions, surface oxidized sulfoxy and carbonate species on galena in the presence of deionised water, process water and water containing calcium and sulphate ions, all at flotation pH 10.5, and these surface species influenced xanthate adsorption. The presence of surface oxidized sulfoxy and carbonate species at the sphalerite flotation pH 11.5 were seen in the presence of deionised water, process water and water containing calcium and sulphate ions, but the surface species does not influence xanthate adsorption. Bench scale flotation using two different complex sulphide ores showed that chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite recoveries are better in process water than tap water. The studies showed that the process water can be recycled in flotation with no detrimental effect on grade and recovery of sulphide minerals. "Over the last 30 years the average grade of mined ore bodies has significantly decreased while the proportion of waste removal has in many cases more than doubled. This has been identified as prime reason of a major increase in energy consumption and decrease in productivity across mining operation. Metal coarse preconcentration of ROM feed grades by size rejects low grade gangue/waste material in the size range of 10-100 mm prior to grinding, typically before primary crushing. This relies on propensity of metal to preferentially deport in the fine size fractions after breakage. Metal preconcentration by size has the potential to increase energy efficiency and therefore improve mining productivity on unit of metal basis. Results of an extensive belt cut sampling campaign conducted at a major Australian Au-Cu mine operation show that for some samples between 90% of Au and 80% of Cu is in 40% of the mass at -50 mm fraction. This indicates that low grade coarse material can be removed from the circuit, doubling feed grade at half of the tonnage and therefore improve energy efficiency per unit metal produced. This response, however presents significant variability in the same order as other processing attributes such as impact hardness and flotation recovery. This has led to development of geometallurgical laboratory tests using blast hole chips and drill core facilitating mapping and population of coarse metal preconcentration signatures in long term resources and short term production models. Preferential Cu deportment by size at drilling scale can be recognised, however scales up factors are required to transform laboratory results to production responses. At 50 % of mass the drilling products underestimate the belt cut responses by 20-30 %. Bulk sampling campaign with blast hole and drill core samples spatially related was also conducted to investigate in more detail the difference between production scale and drilling scale preconcentration responses."

A robust theory of sedimentation-consolidation evolved and was accepted by researchers world-wide in the last two decades of the 20th century. This theory provides a reliable method of thickener design and simulation. However, a process model, simple or sophisticated, empirical or phenomenological, is useful only if it is possible to determine, in an objective way, its experimental parameters. Research workers at the University of Concepción, together with Cettem Mineral Technology Center, created an integrated system of thickener design, simulation and control, including instrumentation, algorithm and software, which can be used by personnel in industry without specialized knowledge of thickening theory. In the paper, the development of three instruments for the measurement of pulp concentration, solid flux density and sediment compressibility is described. Each instrument uses software for data input, parameter calculation and results display. The paper also describes software for the optimization of the experimental parameter and for the design and simulation of industrial thickeners. Finally, mathematical algorithm and control strategies based on the phenomenological model are presented and compared with classical feedback control.

This paper describes of processing tests of 8 flotation concentrates containing precious and base metals by pressure oxidation (POX) method. Concentrates 1 and 2 were gold-copper concentrates. Zinc and silver were by-products in these concentrates. These concentrates were processed by POX with following cyanidation of POX solid residues, copper solvent extraction and zinc carbonate precipitation. The recoveries of gold, copper, silver and zinc from these concentrate were 98, 99, 30 and 99%, respectively. Concentrates 3 and 4 were lead-zinc concentrates. Silver was by-product in concentrate 3. Gold, silver and copper were by-products in concentrate 4. Concentrate 3 was processed by POX with following reduction smelting of POX cakes for primary lead recovery and zinc carbonate precipitation from POX solution. The recoveries of lead and silver into ingot were 96 and 98%, respectively. The recovery of zinc was 99%. Concentrate 4 was processed by POX with following zinc carbonate precipitation and reduction smelting of POX cakes. Copper was precipitated from the POX solution using sodium sulphide prior zinc precipitation. The recovery of zinc into carbonate concentrate was 99%. The recoveries of lead, gold and silver into lead bullion were 95, 99 and 98% respectively. The recovery of copper into sulphide concentrate was 99%. Concentrate 5 was gold-pyrite concentrate, and concentrates 6-8 were double refractory gold-arsenopyrite concentrates. Silver was by-product in these concentrates. These concentrates processed by POX and CIL. The recovery of gold from concentrate 5 was 98%, and from concentrates 6-8 was 85-90. Low gold recovery from concentrates 6-8 was associated with preg-robbing factor. The recovery of silver from gold-sulphide concentrates did not exceed 10-20%. The low silver recovery was associated with argentojarosite formation that is resistant to cyanidation. The flowsheets for complex processing of precious and base metals sulphide flotation concentrates based on this test work results were proposed.

In view of the bad effect that Na-bentonite direct adsorb Pb2+-containing wastewater, this article has carried out two kinds modification treatment on Na-bentonite: the direct microwave radiation modification and microwave radiation organic modification by adding quaternary ammonium salt?cetyltrimethylammonium bromide,and analysis the main influencing factors of the modification effect. In static conditions, preparing Pb2+-containing wastewater as the research object, it has respectively studied the effects of Na-bentonite, microwave soil of direct microwave modification and microwave soil of organic modification on the process of adsorption Pb2+, and discusses the effects of pH value, temperature, adsorbent dosage, stirring time on the adsorption Pb2+ in wastewater by modified bentonite, at the same time it does a verification test to the practical Pb2+-containing wastewater. Comparison the effects of adsorption Pb2+ in wastewater, the results show that organic modified microwave bentonite is obviously better than direct microwave modified bentonite and Na-bentonite, and can make 6 mg/L Pb2+-containing wastewater meet the national discharge standards. Through scanning electron microscope, the result of test is that organic modified microwave bentonite is the cause of improving adsorption Pb2+ in wastewater. Preparing modified bentonite by microwave heating will not only shorten the response time, reduce energy consumption and work-load, but also modified effect is good.

The multi-gravity separator (MGS) is a novel piece of equipment for the separation of fine and ultra-fine minerals. However, the published literature does not demonstrate its use in the separation of Iron ore fines. Therefore, an attempt was made to study the effects of different process variables on the performance of an MGS for the beneficiation of Iron ore fines. The results obtained from this study revealed that among the parameters studied, drum rotation, amount of wash water and angle of inclination play dominating roles in controlling the yield and grade of the Iron ore. The majority of the newly developed Multi gravity concentrators have tremendous potentials for various applications. Therefore, the performance evaluation of these concentrators treating various minerals, coals, heavy metal recovery from tailing dams, etc., have become an active research topic. Several attempts have also been made to develop appropriate mathematical models of individual concentrators. Despite all these efforts, these concentrators have yet to find the widespread applications they deserve. The ?as received? sample assayed 40.80% Fe, 40.90% SiO2,0.24% Al2O3and 0.20 % LOI and all other trace elements within the specified range. The current paper deals with the Mineralogical studies, characterization and process amenability studies of Sub grade Iron ore from Deposit No. 5, Bacheli complex of Bailadila using Multi Gravity Separator (MGS).

Currently, recycling technologies use relatively homogeneous plastics because hand-sorting waste feed is too expensive. Many promising technologies for separating mixed thermoplastics are being investigated, but they are still uneconomical and unreliable. Burning plastics for recycling is not used because of poisonous gases released when their burning. PET and PVC cannot be separated using conventional gravity separation techniques because their specific gravities overlap; PET density changes from 1.33 g/cc to 1.37 g/cc and PVC density is between 1.32 g/cc and 1.37 g/cc. For this reason, plastic recycling needs new techniques. Among these techniques froth flotation, also used in mineral processing, can be useful for its cost and simplicity. In this method, a plastic is selected from mixture, tried to regain its natural property, hydrophobicity. In this study the experiments were applied by using plasticizer reagents to make the selected plastics hydrophobic and us-ing NaOH to render the other hydrophilic. Post-consumed PET and PVC are evaluated by concerning the effects of selected parameters (particle size, concentration of plasticizer reagent, amount of NaOH, conditioning time and the effect of conditioning temperature). At the end of the experiments, optimum parameters for selective flotation of PET from PVC was found as particle size of -4.76 + 3.36 mm, NaOH amount of 30 kg/t, conditioning temperature of 75°C, conditioning time of 30 minutes, reagent amount of 300 mg/L. Consequently, PET was re-covered with 99.7% purity and 57% efficiency.
