In the article results of experiments over jaws? linings in jaw crushers with different shaping of working surface were presented. Following sets of jaws were under investigation: immobile plain jaw and moving jaw with grooving surface. Grooving jaws have groves with circular, triangular and trapezoid cross section. In order to evaluate efficiency of comminution both the grain composition of product and the content of irregular grains were determined, as well as the size of crushing forces and process efficiency were measured. For the combination: plain jaw with grooved one, a good results were obtained as regards the grain composition of product and the content of irregular grains. Crushing forces were higher at crushing with mixed types of jaws (the one plain, the second grooved), in comparison to crushing with using both grooved jaws. Efficiency of the process was definitely higher for mixed jaws.

Despite increasing demand, the supply of silver is limited by its inadequate recovery from ores. Due to its scarcity in nature, its high ore variability and complex mineralogy of current silver deposits, its recovery by mineral froth flotation presents a real challenge for process engineers. A silver ore often contains significant amounts of five to ten different silver minerals and knowledge of the mineralogy is a necessary precursor to flotation testing. In this work, a complex silver ore was treated by using batch laboratory flotation, in an effort to find the best experimental conditions to obtain the optimal silver recovery. Mineralogical characterization of feed samples was conducted using a combination of tools, namely the mineral liberation analyzer (MLA) and inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), which indicated that most of the silver occurred as ?invisible? silver in pyrite. The pyrite assay of the ore was approximately 4%. The ore was processed in two flotation stages. The first stage, sulphide flotation, aimed to collect a sulphide mineral rich concentrate; then a non-sulphide flotation stage was performed by adding sodium sulphide and collectors to the remaining material in the cell, with the objective of obtaining a pyrite rich concentrate. To reach the target recovery of silver from this ore, various variables were altered. In the first stage: mixed collectors, activators, dispersants, and mainstream inert grinding were assessed. In the second stage, the conditions for sulphidization and subsequent flotation were both investigated. From the grade recovery curves for silver and sulphur it was possible to observe a similar metallurgical behavior for both elements, supporting the results given by the mineralogical characterization. This investigation addressed two products from Samarco?s desliming circuit, namely underflow of cleaning cyclones and underflow of desliming cyclones. The roughing cyclones receive the product of the grinding circuit. The underflow of the roughing cyclones feeds the cleaning cyclones and the overflow feeds the desliming cyclones. The underflows of cleaning and roughing cyclones are combined to constitute the feed of the flotation circuit. These fractions were characterized and a new process route was proposed. The size distributions of the two fractions are quite different. The desliming cyclones underflow presents higher amount of material passing 37 µm and of ultrafines as compared with the cleaning cyclones underflow. Laboratory scale flotation tests were performed in a mechanical machine aiming at comparing the performances of these products in the presence of the reagents employed in the concentrator. Pi-lot scale column flotation yielded enhanced iron recoveries for both products in comparison with those achieved in laboratory mechanical cells, without impairing the concentrate quality. The in-crease in recovery was more significant in the case of the cleaning cyclones underflow. These results suggest the use of columns in the flotation of this product aiming at increasing the overall iron recovery. Nevertheless the results also showed that the use of columns to float the cleaning cyclones underflow should also be taken into consideration. Despite the fact that this product requires a longer residence time in order that the required silica content in the concentrate is achieved, the indication is that higher levels of iron recoveries might be reached. The conclusion is that, due to the different behaviors of the two products, they should be processed in distinct circuits to maximize the iron recovery.

"Low-grade ultramafic nickel ores, while representing a large potential nickel resource, are difficult to process due to their serpentine content. Microwave treatment is proposed as a technique to improve the beneficiation of ultramafic nickel ores by converting the constituent serpentine to olivine. The present paper reviews the microwave heating response of ultramafic nickel ores and resultant changes in mineralogy, as well as effects on grinding and slurry rheology. Beyond nickel extraction, microwave treatment improves the mineral carbon storage capacity of ultramafic ore tailings, providing a potential source of additional revenue via the sale of carbon credits. The combined positive effects, considered in the context of the whole operation, suggest an economically viable process is possible.INTRODUCTIONAs high-grade deposits become depleted, the processing of low-grade ores has become increasingly important. One such resource is low-grade ultramafic nickel ores. While representing a large source of nickel, these ores are difficult to process due to their serpentine content. Serpentine is a phyllosilicate mineral consisting of 1:1 stacked sheets of silica tetrahedra and magnesium hydroxide octahedra. There are three primary polymorphs: lizardite (platy), antigorite (corrugated) and chrysotile (coiled, fibrous). The anisotropic nature and non-spherical morphology of serpentine particles leads to complex rheology. Suspensions of serpentine minerals, especially those of chrysotile, exhibit high viscosity and yield stress, which can have a negative effect on comminution, flotation and dewatering operations. In flotation, serpentine is known to slime-coat pentlandite, a valuable nickel mineral, and form bubble-fibre aggregates that report to the froth, reducing nickel concentrate grade and recovery. Methods used to counteract the effects of serpentine in processing include desliming, the addition of chemical dispersants, salts or acid, and dilution (Bobicki et al., 2014a). Microwave pre-treatment has been proposed as an alternative way to eliminate the deleterious effects of serpentine in ultramafic nickel ore processing by converting the serpentine to olivine via dehydroxylation, which occurs at 600-700oC (Reaction 1). Olivine is isotropic, consisting of isolated silica tetrahedra linked by octahedrally coordinated magnesium ions, and has the same surface potential as pentlandite at the pH of flotation (~pH 9). Furthermore, since olivine is more reactive to CO2 than serpentine, microwave pre-treatment creates an opportunity to store more CO2 in tailings, an attractive option for mining operations looking to increase their bottom line where carbon pricing exists."

Cyanide-free technology of complex copper-lead ores flotation may be improved through enlarged range of pH values, enhanced copper recovery into copper concentrates due to additional recovery of secondary copper sulfides, as well as through enhanced efficiency of lead sulfides depression in process of new flotation modifiers-based selective separation. Study of the effects of flotation modifier (of metal nature) on minerals surface conditions proved that the xanthate is practically not adsorbed on the galenite surfaces due to minerals hydrophilization. Joint effects of sodium sulfite and modifier enhance process conditions for intensive galenite depression and at the same time for effective chalcopyrite and chalcosine flotation within a large pH values range (from pH=8 to pH=10). Identified mechanisms carry inference that proposed chemical reagent treating method is very promising for selective copper-lead concentrates separation. Potential use of carbon-containing materials as zinc flotation modifier to enhancing zinc recovery in processes of lead-zinc ores treatment has been studied. In our flotation tests we used Shalkiya (South Kazakhstan) lead-zinc ores containing such impurities as carbon shales, which presence impedes the process of saleable concentrates production and gives rise to excessive consumption of flotation agents due to the xanthate adsorption on the carbon. Lead and zinc concentrates were produced by process stages as follows: ores milled to 95% Cl. -0.074 +0; lead and zinc roughing flotation and further recleaner and testing operations. Test flotation in open process cycle resulted in enhancing zinc recovery into zinc concentrates by 21.1% and increasing zinc content in zinc concentrates by 3.96% that evidences promising potentialities for use of carbon-containing products as additional zinc flotation modifier. "Two low grade calcium bentonite (Ca-bentonite) from Hejia (HJ) and Boteng (BT), Shandong, China, mainly contain montmorillonite and quartz, and slightly feldspar, calcite, and montmorillonite content are 32.37% and 55.90%, respectively. In order to examine the feasibility to produce activated clay to meet the standard of Chinese chemical industry (HG/T2569-2007), three types of industrial production process are proposed according to the screen test. The first process is grinding the raw bentonite to -200 mesh and then activating. The second is to activate the raw bentonite directly, and then classify the production to -200 mesh. The last one is to activate the raw bentonite after purification. Three parameters, which are sulphuric acid strength, ratio of liquid to solid and treatment time, are optimized via orthogonal test for every process. The preliminary test indicates that it is feasible to produce acid bentonite of difference quality. For the sample of HJ, milling the raw to -200 mesh first and activating afterwards, the parameter is at 9% acid strength, the ratio of liquid to solid 2, the time 4 hours, temperature 90°C, the products can meet the qualified grade for animal and vegetable oils refining. For the sample of BT, milling the raw to -200 mesh first and activating afterwards, the parameter is at 15% acid strength, the ratio of liquid to solid 2.5, the time 2 hours, temperature 90°C, the products can meet the qualified grade of high decolorization for petroleum products refining. For the sample of BT, adopting purification to -325 mesh by stirring and rubbing at first, and then activating at 9% acidity, under the conditions that the ratio of liquid to solid is 2, the time is 2 hours and the temperature is 90°C, the products can meet the first grade of high activation degree for petroleum products refining."

The production of minerals for economic use is a two-stage process, involving mining to extract the mineral from the ground, and processing to convert the mineral into a marketable product. Generally, mining and processing have been viewed as self-contained entities. Both have separate objectives, separate cost centres and key performance indicators (KPIs) that do not reflect the customer/supplier relationships that inherently exist. However, mining and processing operations are inter-connected and therefore intimately inter-related with the performance of one operation affecting the performance of another. Optimizing each stage separately without considering the whole system often misses potential economic benefits and energy savings. During the past fifteen years, the authors have been involved in implementing a holistic methodology ?Mine to Mill Process Integration and Optimisation (Mine to Mill PIO)? to maximize the overall profitability of the operation rather than just optimizing any individual process in a mining operation. Metso Process Technology and Innovation (PTI), along with their project partners, have conducted several projects to significantly increase their production- generating typically 5% to 20% higher throughput and improve the overall mine and concentrator performance through PIO methodology. This proven methodology has applications ranging from greenfield projects to long-standing operations with AG/SAG, HPGR or conventional grinding circuits. This paper explains the Mine to Mill PIO methodology and discusses the benefits of such an approach on the energy consumption, the overall costs and benefits of mining operations. The paper also summarizes several case studies illustrating the use of PTI methodology in a variety of applications. "Relating flotation performance to the electrochemical characteristics of a pulp is complex both in fundamental research and in practice. In the case of thiol collectors, different Eh values in the flotation system can result in the formation of the dimer or the metal thiolate which may or may not enhance the hydrophobicity of the mineral. Reducing or oxidizing conditions in a flotation system, viz. changing the Eh value, are usually manipulated to achieve an optimum flotation response by control of pH and dissolved oxygen levels in the system. A variation in pulp potential may also be achieved by the addition of potential modifiers such as sodium hydrosulphide (NaHS), sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) or hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). There exists anecdotal evidence which suggests that the addition of small amounts of H2O2 to the flotation process can improve sulphide mineral recovery. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of the addition of the potential modifier, H2O2, on sulphide mineral recoveries and grades in the flotation of sulphide minerals from two copper bearing ores from China and compare the results to those obtained for a PGM bearing ore South Africa. Batch flotation tests were conducted using the three different ores at the natural pH of the different systems, in the presence of a xanthate collector and the absence and presence of H2O2 as a potential modifier. The results indicate that the addition of carefully controlled low concentrations of H2O2 resulted in improvements in flotation performance. INTRODUCTIONElectrochemical potential as a control parameter in the flotation of sulphide minerals has been widely studied (Allison et al., 1972; Gardner and Woods, 1979; Ross and Van Deventer, 1985; Chander, 2003; Woods, 2003; Javadi, 2013). There is concensus that in order to be recovered during flotation, sulphide minerals require a suitable redox environment. During the flotation process thiol collectors and sulphide minerals are involved in electrochemical reactions which result in the formation of hydrophobic species at the mineral surface (Finkelstein and Goold, 1972; Rand and Woods, 1984). Sulphide minerals act as semiconductors and electrons are transferred during the interaction of the mineral with collector. The resultant potential difference and its magnitude are responsible for the transfer of electrons and the rate of the reaction (Bard and Faulkner, 2001; Fuerstenau et al., 2007). Reducing or oxidizing conditions in a flotation system, viz. changing the Eh value, may be manipulated to achieve an optimum flotation response by control of pH and dissolved oxygen levels in the system (Heyes and Trahar, 1979). The use of potential modifiers viz. reducing or oxidizing agents which include H2O2, NaClO, and NaHS, is an alternative method by which to control the potential of the pulp in a flotation system which may or may not promote the flotation of desired minerals (Rao, 2004). The oxidizing agent, H2O2, undergoes a cathodic reaction which can result in the enhanced flotation of valuable minerals. The potential of the system is increased which results in a shift in the mixed potential of a mineral. The magnitude of the over-potential influences the rate of the oxidation process and thus the flotation response of sulphide minerals (Kocabag and Guler, 2008). Equation 1 shows the proposed oxidation of xanthate by H2O2 (Lipkina and Streltysn, 1970)."

"We have designed a planar perpendicular flow cell for electrochemical measurement of a mineral available as a fine powder. The working electrode consisting of mineral powder supported on a carbon paste surface as a 4 mm diameter disk, was concentrically positioned inside a vertical tubular reactor. The counter electrode was a 316L tube embedded in the body cell. The supportive media was a 1.2:1 mixture of candle wax and graphite powder respectively, which is a good electrical conductor. The concentrate electrode as a film attached on a carbon paste disk was prepared rubbing the surface carbon paste against dried powdered mineral. An Ag/AgCl 1 M KCl cell as a reference electrode was attached to the body cell by using a fast coupling fitting. A stable flow rate was achieved using a frequency inverter to drive the pump motor. The flow through the cell verified to be laminar due to the Reynolds number in the cell flow passage. Cyclic voltammetry from - 1200 a 600 mVSAgE were measured using a carbon paste with and without mineral attached to the surface. The main findings of this work were: a). Electrochemical measurement of mineral powder in contact with flowing samples was easily achieved using ground mineral. This is important where massive samples are not available. b). The voltammetric curve features of ground mineral coincided with reported data. c). The working electrode could be quickly replaced while maintaining very good reproducibility."

"The depressive effect of dichromate on galena was evaluated with chemical experiments and small-scale depression experiments at a pH of around 12. The depressive effect was measured with Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS), which measures the water uptake of a sample as a function of the % relative humidity. The depression is due to PbCrO4PbO, which in the presence of Ca2+ and SO4 2- forms a more or less amorphous solid solution (Pb,Ca)(CrO4,SO4)PbO, which clogs to the surfaces of the ore. Free Pb2+- ions are needed for depression to occur and at high pH Pb2+ - hydroxide complexes, supply enough Pb2+ - ions to precipitate (Pb,Ca)(CrO4,SO4)PbO. In air CO2, precipitates CaCO3 which slowly lowers pH, precipitating more (Pb,Ca)(CrO4,SO4)PbO and CaCO3 on galena. Similar experiments where performed with five alternative depressors whereof phosphate, which forms an amorphous precipitate of approximate composition Pb3Ca13(PO4)10SO4, gave the best results. Phosphate was tested in laboratory scale flotation experiments giving encouraging results.INTRODUCTIONWithin Boliden Mines, concentrating of copper and lead from complex sulfide ores is performed by bulk flotation, meaning that copper and lead are concentrated in the same product. Downstream, copper and lead are separated by flotation of chalcopyrite, and depression of galena. Boliden has for many decades used sodium dichromate to depress galena (reference 1). Dichromate is both toxic and carcinogenic and Boliden has for many years investigated several alternatives. So far, however, the best results have been obtained with dichromate. Since Boliden has tried to substitute dichromate for a long time without finding a process as effective, Boliden decided to clarify the function of dichromate in the depression of galena and on the basis of the outcome find alternative depressors with similar function. This study was given to RISE Bioscience and Materials / Surface, Process and Formulation as a consultancy assignment. This paper presents the outcome of the combined efforts of Boliden and RISE."

The preparation technological conditions and regeneration method of two novel granulated adsorbing materials of rectorite/fly ash composite (Material 1) and rectorite/water quenched - slag composite (Material 2) and the use of them to remove heavy metals from copper smelting plant wastewater have been studied. The experimental results showed that under the preparation conditions with the ratio of rectorite to fly ash or water - quenched slag of 1:1, the amount of the additive (Industrial Starch, IS) of 15% (Material 1) or 10% (Material 2), the addition of 50% water, and the calcination temperature of 500? (Material 1) or 400? (Material 2), the efficiency of heavy metal removal with the granulated materials was the best, whereas the ratio of disintegration loss was the lowest. Under the treatment conditions of natural pH, and with the addition of the granulated materials of 0.07g/cm3 (Material 1) or 0.05g/cm3 (Material 2), a reaction time of 60 minutes (Material 1) or 40 minutes (Material 2), and the adsorption temperature of 25?, the efficiency for the granulated materials to remove Cu2+Pb2+Zn2+Cd2+ and Ni2+ from the copper smelting plant wastewater was 98.9, 97.5, 96.7, 90.2, and 79.1, (Material 1) or 98.2, 96.3, 78.6, 86.2, and 64.2, (Material 2), respectively, and the quality indexes of the wastewater after treatment conformed with the first level of integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB8978-1996). When the adsorption of heavy metal ions on the surface attained saturation the granulated materials could be regenerated by washing with 1 mol/L sodium chloride (NaCl) solution and still with quite good heavy metal removal efficiency. The granulated adsorbing materials had the advantages of high efficiency of wastewater treatment, easy method of solid-liquid separation and regeneration, and a broad prospect of applications.

"A phosphate deposit of estimated 6 billion tons of P2O5 is located 180 to 300 meters below the sea level, 185 kilometers north of port Luderitz, Namibia. The ore bed is 6 kilometers wide and 220 kilometers long. The ore deposit analyzing 16% P2O5 is loose sediment of 1.5 meters thick without over burden. Sizing of the ore to - 1.4 mm + 0.150 mm improves the grade to 23.54% P2O5 with a P2O5 recovery at 83.75% containing phosphate pellets and flakes of sea shells. Clay, bacterial debris as organic matter, flakes of broken sea shells and fine phosphate containing particles report to - 0.150 mm fraction and + 1.4 mm fraction contains sea shells and few phosphate containing pellets. The mineralogical composition of phosphate containing pellets is estimated (Droste, T.C., 2004) 80% frankolite, 6% pyrite, 4% illite, 3% quartz, 3% amorphous SiO2, 1% carbonates, 1% organic carbon and = 1% ilmenite, magnetite, zircon etc. The phosphate content in the pellets is around 27.7% P2O5. Trials to separate by gravity or flotation processes were not successful. Leaching of carbonates (sea shell flakes) under mild acidic condition (= 2% acetic acid or HCl solutions) or calcinations followed by leaching however yielded residues (concentrates) of grades 27.85 - 32.74% P2O5 at P2O5 recoveries ranging from 78.45 - 96.8% P2O5."

Organo-bentonite production enjoys important applications including solvent based paints and, more importantly, the production of polymer/bentonite nanocomposites. Quarternary ammonium salts in this regard are still considered as the most versatile reagents in the process of hydrophobization. In this study, a purified form of Resadiye region bentonites, which is one of the most significant sodium bentonite deposits in the world, was used. The raw Na-Bentonite was typically characterized by chemical analysis, XRD and DTA analysis and more importantly for its cation exchange capacity (CEC). Other technological properties such as swelling index, pH, apparent viscosity, water absorption, oil absorption were also conducted on the raw bentonite. The mineralogical analysis of the raw bentonite reveals that it contains about 80 % montmorillonite together with other associated gangue minerals including feldspar, quartz, calcite, dolomite, coloured impurities and other clay minerals. The raw bentonite was subjected to two stage processing involving a series of hydrocylones. Different apex and vortex diameters and different pressures were employed in order to produce a bentonite concentrate with 95 meq/100g CEC from a CEC of 71 meq/100 g. This high quality concentrate was used in the production of organo-bentontonite. The modification was performed with two different quaternary amines, i.e. Trimethyl Phenyl Ammonium Chloride (TPAC) and Hexadecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide (HDTMA-Br). In the modification procedure, three parameters, i.e., adsorption density, zeta potential, swelling index and apparent viscosity were studied simultaneous-ly from the same suspension to identify both the mechanism of the process and also the degree of hydrophobicity. Adsorption measurements were made as a function of conditioning period, pH, and reagent concentration. Simultaneous examination of the adsorption density, zeta potential and apparent viscosity enabled us to pinpoint the optimum region of hydrophobicity which was subsequently tested by settling and critical coagulation concentration in both water as polar and toluene as nonpolar solvents. The results are analyzed in the light of experimental data.

For the moment reserves of high-grade ores are practically depleted requiring ever-increased involvement of low assay raw materials, such as black-shale ores, in industrial operations. Black-shale ores are constituted of minerals containing such valuable components as vanadium, uranium, molybdenum, manganese, and rare-earth elements (REE). We studied technogenic solutions of black-shale ores processing, after uranium, molybdenum, and vanadium were recovered. Mentioned solutions contain rare-earth elements in substantial quantities (S REE 70-100 mg/dm3) that is very important factor taking into consideration the world demand ever-increasing last years. Higher concentrations of iron and aluminum inhibiting REE sorption and extraction recovery are found in solutions. We propose a method of hydrolytic deposition to cleaning solutions from impurity elements (Fe, Al). Study of hydrolytic deposition kinetics allowed identifying optimal conditions to run this process. Rare-earth elements may be recovered from purified solutions through sorption process followed by their further deposition from eluates in form of concentrates. A new short combined flow sheet including high intensity magnetic separation and flotation for a rare earth ore in Maoniuping deposit, China has been investigated. Massive conclusive results demonstrate, that it is critical to separate the ore by high intensity magnetic separation prior to flotation for tons of slimes and nonmagnetic gangue existing. The vital technological parameters affecting flotation have been studied in detail. Modified hydroxamic acid is an efficient collector for bastnasite flotation because of its high selectivity. Flotation results also indicate high temperature that play an unfavourable role on the recovery as well as the grade of bastnasite concentrate, when the rare earth ore is floated with modified hydroxamic acid and sodium silicate depressant. Bastnasite concentrates, averaging over 65 percent REO at an overall recovery of 82-84% is achieved by the new beneficiation technology. Stone coal containing vanadium is an important vanadium resource in China. Roasting and oxidation of vanadium is the foundation for extracting vanadium from stone coal. This article takes stone coal vanadium ore in Tongshan of Hubei Province as research target to conduct oxidation roasting test on it by using a self-developed low-sodium compound additive and a new optimized technology. Firstly, use potentiometric titration, X diffraction, energy spectrum and electron probe to study valence change, occurrence and phase transition of vanadium during oxidation roasting process. On this basis, primary work is done on oxidation kinetics of vanadium by exploring the steps that control reaction rate during vanadium oxidation process and determining the related dynamic parameter ? apparent activation energy. The study shows that occurrence of vanadium in stone coal of Tongshan is mainly in illite, and that the result of phase transition in roasting process is disappearance of illite containing vanadium, formation of soluble vanadate and potassium feldspar, albite. It further demonstrates that oxidation process of vanadium is step by step (V(?)? V(?)? V(?)), and its oxidation reaction is controlled by diffusion kinetics whose dynamic apparent activation energy is E1=81.19kJ.mol-1.

2-hydroxy-3-naphthoy hydroxamic acid code name F203 is a good collector of cassiterite, 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoy hydroxamic acid code name ZJ-3. F203 and ZJ-3 are similar series of isomers. They have similar naphthye, and similar series of functional OH and ?CONHOH, but the seat of OH and ?CONHOH group are different, on the F203 is 2.3; on the ZJ-3 is 1.2, ortho position too. According to Isomeric principle ZJ-3 is a good collector of cassiterite slime too. Using ZJ-3 as collector flotation -10µm occupies 90%, grade 1.16% Sn cassiterite slime of Da Chang Chehe concentration plant, pass one coursing flotation, two cleaning and one scarenging flotation, and obtains grand 18.26% Sn, recovery 92.68% cassiterite concentrate. The result proves the Isomeric principle of flotation reagents is correct again. This principle may supply to synthetize new flotation reagents reference. Variability of the quality of phosphate ore feed to the flotation plant has been of great concern for the industry. This variability sometimes resulted in 10% to 50% decrease of P2O5 recovery, a reduction of P2O5 concentrate grade and/or both due to depression of the system. For this investigation, samples of refractory ore and easy-to-float ore were obtained from the same mining area in Central Florida; and then submitted to bench flotation tests using fatty acids (FA). To understand the cause of difference in flotation behavior of these apparently similar ores (grade, mineralogy, and physical appearance), bulk and surface characterization studies were conducted. Based on the results of characterization studies and bench flotation tests on both refractory and easy-to-float samples, it was possible to determine FA surface coverage. It was found that the surface coverage for the refractory ore was between 6.9% and 9.8%, corresponding to 0% and 80% recovery, respectively; whereas the easy-to-float ore showed surface coverage of 17.2% (89% recovery) to 24.6% (98% recovery). Since size analysis, surface area and pore size measurements showed small differences, it was thought that the surface coverage differences could be caused by the ad-sorption of natural compounds onto the phosphate ore surfaces, depressing the system. SEM, EDS, and Leaching and Solvent Extraction (LSX) studies were performed on the phosphate ores to demonstrate the proposed mechanism. This paper summarized our characterization studies, flotation results, and findings. The study showed that the new identified compounds were responsible for the flotation behaviors of the Florida refractory phosphate ores.

"Due to limited water resources in mineral processing plants, increasing the efficiency of iron tailing dewatering system in order to obtain more usable water is very important. In this research, flocculation process, as one of the best method for water recovery, was investigated by using one organic cationic and three anionic types of flocculants with different dosages (10, 20, 30 g/ton) and iron ore tailing slurry (8 % w/w solidity) in series of graduated cylinders and obtained results were compared. it is observed that for tailing sample, the anionic flocculants have a significant effect on the settling rate of solid particles compared to the cationic types. Furthermore, effects of temperature (10, 23 and 43 ºC) and pH (2, 7 and 12) on the rate of settlement and turbidity was studied by utilizing the best flocculant. Findings showed that by increasing the amount of flocculant dosage, sedimentation rate went up and turbidity decreased. Comparison the out-put data of tests indicated that at temperature 23 °C and pH=7, the best results for both of faster settling rate and producing more clear water were reached. It should be considered that lower temperature has a more negative effect on the sedimentation rate and overflow water quality. So it will be predicted that for cold seasons, the consumption of the flocculant powder would be higher than the moderate or warm seasons. Also, coagulation/flocculation was evaluated by applying organic cationic coagulant added to anionic flocculant in three different times. Different ratios of coagulant to flocculant was examined (70%:30%, 50%:50%, 30%:70%) as well. Overall, utilizing coagulant had desirable influence on sedimentation experiments and obtaining high quality water. 1- INTRODUCTION In mineral Factories, among the important processes, solid-liquid separation process due to limited resources of water is very important and operates on iron ore tailing in settling tank as thickener in order to gain clear water for preventing water loss and applying again in plant units (Ciftci and Serhat Isik, 2017). Iron ore tailing include inharmonious compounds of iron oxides, silicates and aluminum-silicates. The percentage of solid in the tailing usually changes between 5 and 10 percent (Dash et al., 2011). One of the major problem about dewatering of tailing in thickener is solid-liquid separation of slurries with high stability because of fine particles. It means that rate of sedimentation is very slow and recovered water quality is inappropriate. This issue can be solved to a large extent by factors such as pH control, ionic strength and flocculation/coagulation process which results in aggregation of particles so that settlement by gravity is happened (Dash et al., 2011)."

Recent results from electrochemical measurements demonstrate that trithiocarbonate (TTC) collectors are more readily oxidized to their corresponding dithiolates than the dithiocarbonate/xanthate (DTC) collectors. Based on the traditional analysis of collector adsorption, trithiocarbonates might then be expected to be effective for bulk sulfide mineral flotation. Previous bench-scale flotation research had shown that TTC collectors are very effective for the flotation of copper sulfide minerals and PGM (platinum group metal) sulfide minerals. More recently, the TTC collectors were evaluated for auriferous pyrite recovery in benchscale plant scale flotation testing in the United States and in plant tests at Anglogold in South Africa. TTC collectors were also applied in bench-scale testing of a PGM ore. In each case an improved separation efficiency was realized. Fundamental studies at the University of Utah examining the effect of collector structure (functional group, -O-CS2 versus .S-CS2), specifically with respect to auriferous pyrite flotation, are in progress. The effect of collector structure was evaluated with air as well as nitrogen as the flotation gas medium. Experimental techniques utilized included electrochemically controlled contact angle measurements to evaluate mineral hydrophobicity and infrared spectroscopy to explain collector adsorption phenomena at the mineral surface.
