As one of the key inorganic chemical industries, the chromate chemical industry has spawned extensively public concerns due to the resulted environmental pollution. The cleaner production technology for chromium compounds bases on sub-molten salt medium developed by the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences has greatly decreased the reaction temperature and energy consumption, significantly in-creased the utilization ratio of the chromium element, and successfully achieved the comprehensive utilization of chromite resources and zero emission of chromium-containing residue. The separation process of production is the most important components in the cleaner technology. In this work, we studied two parts: the first is the removal of SiO2, Al3+ from the system and the recycling utilization of alkali metal medium through adding Ca(OH)2 and CaO; the second is to get more pure K2CrO4 crystalloid and remove K2CO3 from KOH solution through evaporation to prepare raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 and get 50%(wt) KOH. The results obtained show that Ca(OH)2 can remove Al3+ more than CaO and has lower caustic ratio than CaO when they were added 110% of theoretic quantity. The optimal pure K2CrO4(96%) can be gained at 45 Celsius degree in 30% KOH solution and K2CO3 in 50% KOH solution could be decreased to 3.5%(wt) at 40 Celsius degree. And then K2CO3 can be causticized with adding Ca(OH)2 to recycle potassium alkali. The impure material can be re-moved and suitable raw material for manufacturing Cr2O3 can be gotten and reaction medium can be also recycled in this process technology, realizing cleaner production effectively.

Iron ore concentrate contains different mineral phases viz. hematite, magnetite, goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite. Presence of some of these phases like goethite, kaolinite, and gibbsite contribute to the loss on ignition (LOI) content of the sample. Iron ore fines (pellet feed) are pelletized for utilization in DRI & BF processes. In the present pelletization technology i.e., straight grate and grate kiln processes, the LOI in the ore should be within the range of 2.0-2.5%. LOI content in the iron ore concentrate is found to be more than 4% after beneficiation of low-grade iron ore. It is therefore difficult to produce good quality pellet because of high LOI content. The LOI content of the sample is a detrimental factor in the pellet making. For effective pelletization, the LOI content in iron ore fines needs to be reduced before pelletization. It can be reduced by fluidized bed roasting. The objective of present work is to understand the kinetics of removal of LOI from iron ore fines. The effects of bed depth, temperature, and residence time on reduction of LOI content in iron ore fines were studied using muffle furnace. The process of roasting was carried out at four different temperatures varying from 400 to 950 °C with a variable residence time of 30, 45, 60 & 75 minutes and at bed depths of 16, 32, 48 & 64 mm. In all instance of experiments carried out, one of the parameters was kept constant. It was observed that at 850 °C and 30 minutes of residence time, there was sufficient removal of LOI in static bed condition even at a high bed depth of 64 mm. The present research covers the results of experiments carried out with high frequency vibration screen on dewatering of coal fines. In the tests, the addition of surface active reagents was studied employing a high frequency vibrating screen. To increase the efficiency of mechanical dewatering processes, ultrasonic treatment was applied along with surfactants and optimum dewatering conditions were obtained. The moisture content of the feed material was from 82.5% to 41% by the optimization of operation parameters including the angle of the screen, vibration frequency, feed rate and screen opening size. Optimum parameters obtained in dewatering processes carried out with the vibrating screen were kept constant and the effects of surface active reagents and ultrasonic treatment on dewatering were investigated. Finally, the moisture level of the material was further reduced from 41.0% to 37.66%.

"Fine free gold at a size of minus 250-100 µm can be effectively recovered from mineral materials (buried clay placers, saprolites, gold-bearing aggregates, technogenic sands etc.), or MM, using some developed and implemented in practice cost-effective basic technological schemes of MM processing at every stage: exploration, main concentration processes, upgrading of gravity concentrates etc. Such technologies are based on mineral materials composition, different content of fine gold mass fractions, and include improved two-stage sluicing technology, jigging technology, advanced technology and integrated technology. The main operation principle of the given technologies is gravity concentration. They provide recovery of fine gold of any size from MM, including gold finer than 100 µm, using concentration systems and plants with a capacity of 1-2 and up to 100-200 m3 per hour. Selection of a cost-effective technology depends on its technical and economic viability regarding to mineral material composition, optimum performance and concentration rate. The developed technologies of mineral materials concentration establish a balance between technological, technical and economic factors, and ensure profitable development of deposits containing free gold and characterized by a complex composition of concentrating material. Free gold recovery with these systems increases by 2.0-2.5 times for gold particles at a size of minus 250+100 µm and 10-30 times for gold particles of minus 100 µm, compared to conventional sluicing systems. The Irgiredmet Institute has developed and supplies primary concentrate washing machines for upgrading gravity concentrates of up to 100 mm in size, with a capacity of 1.0-5.0 m3/h, fitted with various production equipment including pyro- and hydrometallurgical systems. Additionally, the Irgiredmet Institute develops and manufactures systems of mechanized processing of geological and technological samples (UOMP; registered design certificate No.27505, Russia) designed for complete recovery of free gold in the process of geological samples handling and decreasing of a human factor influence. A system includes a package of technologically associated disintegration, classification and concentration equipment with some “know-how” elements that provide effective recovery of fine gold at the exploration stage. A number of Irgiredmet’s patented technologies and systems (patents of the Russian Federation) have no equivalents in the field of mineral processing and provide designing of technologically practical and cost-effective flowsheets that offer higher recovery of gold of different sizes (fine gold), at every stage of processing of mineral materials including basic concentration processes, upgrading and exploration etc."

"Test work was carried out using copper gold-bearing flotation concentrate with 6.85%Cu, 14.30%Fe, 20.70%S and 2.34%As. Gold and silver grade in the concentrate is 54.6 g/t and 92 g/t, respectively. Gold and copper are valuable components in the concentrate. Gold is partially associated with pyrite and fahlores. Copper in the concentrate can be found as tennantite (Cu12As4S13). The 71% of gold from the flotation concentrate is recoverable by cyanidation with simultaneous cyanide consumption in the amount of 96 kg/t. The major reason of refractoriness is that gold is fine encapsulated into sulfides and the presence of cyanicide-copper. The concentrate ground as much as 95% minus 10 µm was treated using low-temperature POX at the temperature of 100±5°C, L:S ratio of 5:1 and the process time of 1-5 hours. Residual sulfide sulfur in the cake is 2.28% which is 89% sulfide oxidation. The highest copper recovery to POX solution is 91%. It was found that gold recovery to cyanide solution is 85-94% during alkaline pre-treatment of POX cakes followed by cyanidation. In this case, cyanide and lime consumption is 75-90 kg/t and 120 kg/t, respectively. In order to recover precious metals from POX cakes leaching using sodium sulfite was carried out. Test work was conducted at varied reagent concentration, L:S ratio and leaching time. Gold and silver recovery achieved was 85-95% and 59-63%, respectively."

Water recovery in mineral processing plants is one of the most important subjects because water supply is a critical matter economically and environmentally, especially in desert areas. In this paper, the filtration behaviour of two iron ore tailing sample has been investigated using laboratory scale vacuum and pressure filtration units. These samples including tailing from Sirjan and Zarand concentrate production plants with the d80 of 94 and 41 micron, respectively. The results show that by using vacuum filtration the cake moisture content of Sirjan sample would be about 24%. But the filtration time is too long and vacuum belt filter cannot be used in industrial scale. Adding about 40 g/ton of flocculant would decrease the filtration time by about 30% and make the vacuum belt filter appropriate for dewatering of this sample. For Zarand tailing sample, the vacuum filtration would produce a wet cake by about 31% moisture content. Filtration time is too long and adding flocculant would not improve the results very much. So pressure filtration must be used for dewatering of this sample. The results of laboratory tests show that using pressure filter would reduce the cake moisture content to 21%. The filtration time is logical, so this process can be used for Zarand tailing dewatering.

On the basis of detailed studying of mineral structure of ore and treatment products it is established that the given ore refers to oxidized Pb-Zn vein-disseminated ores. Technological special features of the basic ore minerals and the reasons causing their obstinateness that is defined by following features are revealed, presence at dominating quantity difficult to float lead minerals: mimetesite (9.67%), green lead ore(0.48%); non float: bindheimite (2.16%) and plumbojarosite (0.36%) and high assay of oxides and hydrous ferric oxides; also thin, emulsive and submicroscopic segregations of the defined minerals in swamp ore. As a result of researches the scheme of gravitational-flotation treatment was conducted in semi-industrial scale. It allows to receive two concentrates from ore: a lead gravitational concentrate of mark ??-4 with the assay of 55.5 % of Pb and 0.77 % of Zn; and a Pb concentrate of mark ??-7 with assay of Pb of 40.97 % and Zn of 1.39 %. The total assay of Pb in concentrates makes 81 %. The efficiency offered by gravitational-flotation schemes is defined by possibility for recovery of big impregnated lead minerals under gravitation. The use of this method of gravitation has allowed to recover such mineral as beudantide and to exclude irrevocable losses of lead in tails which are connected with this mineral. Scientific value of the presented researches is connected with the fact the problem of extraction of the oxidized minerals of Bb and Zn is rather difficult and insufficiently studied. "Rapid depletion of high grade iron ores coupled with the increasing demand for the blast furnace grade iron ore in recent times has shifted the research focus on the development of appropriate technologies for the utilization of low - grade alumina rich iron ore slimes. These slimes are currently being dumped into tailing ponds owing to their high alumina content. Typical constituent minerals present in the Indian iron ore slimes are hematite, goethite, gibbsite and kaolinite. Considering the fine particle size distribution (<37 microns) in the slimes, selective dispersion-flocculation seems to be one of the most appropriate process which has been explored by us. We present our successful results on a natural iron ore slime sample obtained from one of the mines in India. We have been able to achieve a concentrate assaying >67% Fe, and <3% Al2O3 and 2.8% loss on ignition (LOI) from the slime sample assaying 60.4% Fe, 7.7% Al2O3 and 5.45% LOI with an Fe recovery of 62-69% simply by adjusting the pulp pH. We have scaled up the process to a semi batch scale as a prelude to commercialize it for the beneficiation of low grade iron ore slimes."

Calcined calcium oxide from limestone is hydrated to manufacture calcium hydroxide, and then precipitated calcium carbonate is synthesized from calcium hydroxide. Precipitated calcium carbonate of various morphologies is obtained by controlled conditions of each step and characteristics of limestone, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide. Especially characteristics of calcium hydroxide have the most influence on morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate character. In this study, therefore, it is investigated the specific surface area of calcium hydroxide and morphology of precipitated calcium carbonate according to hydration temperature. Calcium hydroxide hydrated at high initial temperature has larger particle size than that hydrated at low initial temperature. And formation yield of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate has improved by using calcium hydroxide had larger particle size (hydrated at high initial temperature).

Mechanochemical activation of starting minerals and their effect on the solid-phase synthesis and properties of ceramics with lower thermal expansion coefficient was examined. The mineral mixture, pyrophyllite-gibbsite-lithium carbonate, was prepared for the synthesis of ?-eucryptite (Li2O•Al2O3•2SiO2). Dry grinding using a planetary ball mill promoted the amorphization of the starting mixtures. XRD and FT-IR results showed that the crystallization of the target materials occurred from the ground mixtures by calcination. The crystallization of them increased with increment of grinding time and calcination temperature. In the synthesis, the trace of undesired phases such as quartz and cristobalite once formed during calcination at the temperature range from 750 to 850 °C almost disappeared and monophase ?-eucryptite was formed in the ground mixture at 950 °C. Biohydrometallurgical studies were performed on the sulfide gold-arsenic concentrate obtained in treatment of refractory ore from a deposit located in northern Russia. Gold is disseminated in sulfides-arsenopyrite, pyrite and antimonite (their content is 10.0%, 30.4% and 0.7%, respectively). Gold extraction is only 11.8% by cyanidation. Results are given for test bacterial oxidation of the concentrate in continuous mode at temp. = 28~32°C using mesophilic bacteria and at temp. = 32~38°C using the association including moderate thermophilic bacteria. The paper shows that the use of moderate thermophilic bacteria allows to speed up sulfide biooxidation and reduce its time to 96 hours compared to leaching at temp. = 28~32°C for 110~120 hours. The optimal range of pH = 1.5~2.0 of biooxidation process was determined where bacterial solutions are produced with the molar ratio Fe:As > 3 necessary for precipitation of hard-to-solve, environmentally safe arsenical precipitates. Electron microscopy showed that sulfide biooxidation results in liberation of disseminated gold with nanoparticle-level sizes. High sorptive activity of carbonaceous matter and other compounds of bacterial residues cause low gold extraction into cyanide solution ? 28.7%. 10% resin load makes it possible to extract 88.1% Au. Aeration of pulp in calcareous medium enhances extraction to 95.7% and decreases cyanide consumption from 17kg/t to 8 kg/t.

"Due to the influence of combustion conditions, the fly ash produced by some power plants has the problem of high-carbon content. The unburned carbon in fly ash can be removed by flotation, and the decarbon tailings should reach the national standard level I fly ash. The fineness of the requirement is one of the important indicators and is also an important factor affecting the tail ash activity. In this paper,adopting two methods investigate the effect of particle size on the flotation index: one is direct flotation of fly ash, and the other way is wet grinding + flotation of fly ash, comparing the two methods and selecting the appropriate process,which provides a way for the effective utilization of fly ash. INTRODUCTION Fly ash is a solid waste discharged from coal-fired power plants. The annual amount of emissions of fly ash are very large in China. The amount of fly ash were discharged from coal-fired power plants are increasing gradually, and the amount of fly ash stored has exceeded 2.5 billion tons, but the comprehensive utilization of fly ash is not high, which brings about a huge environmental problems( Lu et al.,2011). Carbon is a harmful component of fly ash in cement and concrete application (Zhang et al.,2008). Fly ash decarburization is an essential link to improve the utilization efficiency of fly ash and the reduce pollution ( Yang et al.,2012). Carbon is selected from fly ash to make full use of fly ash resources and improve utilization of fly ash (Li et al.,2008). In this paper, the flotation decarburization of high-carbon fly ash is studied, through comparing the grinding and not-grinding processes, optimizing the separation process of fly ash, which provides a way for the effective utilization of fly ash."

High grade ore deposits in the world are fast depleting and the valuables in the low-grade ores are finely disseminated. The feed grade to flotation circuit is also declining. Attainment of suitable grind is preferred, which inevitably creates more fines of the gangue minerals to interfere with the flotation process because of the undue competition between the fines and the valuables for the collector ion adsorption. Besides the use of polymeric or long chain hydrocarbon depressants for the gangue mineral, microbial induced flotation also has potential to float minerals selectively. Thiobacillus ferroxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans adhere on the minerals to modify its surface properties and affect the minerals flotation acting as depressants. Hindustan Zinc has conducted laboratory studies to understand the adhesion of microorganism on the mineral surfaces and its impact on the selective flotation. The experiments were further designed to reduce consumption of depressing reagents for graphitic carbon, pyrite, and galena. Preliminary studies reveal that desired quality of concentrate can be achieved with reasonable recovery. "A study was made of chemical and material compositions of the oxidized gold-bearing ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit. It was demonstrated that examined ore consisted mainly of quartz, carbonate and feldspar with a gold content of 2.2 g/t and a silver content of 6.1 g/t. By means of agitation leaching tests it was founded that about 79-80 % of gold can be extracted from ore using cyanide leaching solutions. The achieved high-speed dissolution rate of gold was due to its presence in a finely dispersed state (less than 2.73 µm), which was confirmed by the research of Uralmekhanobr. It was proposed that the ore can be processed by heap leaching process using cyanide leach solutions. Technological studies on the modeling of the heap leaching process were initially carried out in percolators with a capacity of 5 kg on agglomerated ore. It was preliminary established that agglomeration should be carried out at a cement consumption of 12-16 kg/t, with the moisture content in pellets reaching up to 10-12 %. The best percolation leaching results can be obtained with ore crushed to the size of -20 mm. The maximum extraction of gold to the solution was 79-80 % while the L:S ratio reached 1.2-1.4:1.In cooperation with the research center of OJSC ""Berezovsky mine"" a semi-industrial heap leaching test was accomplished. The result of a test performed was an extraction of 78.5 % of Au and 21 % of Ag from ore to a pregnant solution. This extraction degree was achieved at a L:S ratio 0.9: 1. On the ground of results obtained, a technical regulation was developed for design of the heap leaching plant with the capacity of 500 thousand tons of ore per year.INTRODUCTION The ore of the Kochkovskoe deposit represents an important reserve of gold in the Zabaikal region. Of the upmost interest are oxidized ores, the processing of which can be carried out by heap leaching (HL) with cyanide solutions. "The direct reduced iron powder and Ti-V-rich material was prepared from vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate by solid-state reduction-magnetic separation. The result indicated that under the studied conditions, adding KS can effectively improve the metallization rate of pellets. 2% KS was well mixed with vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate to make the pellets. The green pellet was preheated at 900 ? for 6 min. The preheated pellet was reduced at 1050 ? for 100 min, then crushed and ground to more than 80% was below 0.045 mm. The direct reduced iron powder and Ti-V-rich material were separated from the slurry by wet magnetic separation at 800Gs. The TFe content of magnetic material was 90.63%, and the Fe recovery rate reached 96.53%. The TiO2 and V2O5 contents of Ti-V-rich material were 28.40 % and 1.64 %, respectively. The TiO2 and V2O5 recovery rates were 69.05% and 96.82%, respectively. 1. Introduction The ilmenite and rutile are the main titanium resources which can be used in the present technical level and economic conditions[1,2]. However, with the rapid development of China’s economy, the market demand of titanium products is increasing sharply. The current supply of ilmenite and rutile cannot meet the needs of chemical industry[3]. China is rich in vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate which contains abundant titanium and vanadium resources. The TiO2 and V2O5 content of vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate are usually about 7% and 0.3%, respectively[4]. Because the TiO2 and V2O5 grades are low, it generally requires pre-concentrated to Ti-V-rich material before extracting the titanium and vanadium. Therefore, it is vital to find effective processes for pre-concentrating the titanium and vanadium in vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate. There are many methods[5-13] developed or under development to pre-concentrate Ti-V-rich material from vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate, including the blast furnace process, pre-reduction electric furnace process, to utilized vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate are direct reduction-electric furnace smelting, sodium salt roasting-direct reduction-electric furnace smelting and direct reduction-magnetic separation and so on. The blast furnace process and other methods cannot effectively utilize the titanium and vanadium resource due to the technical or environmental problems[9]. In this study, the vanadium titanomagnetite concentrate was obtained from Panxi region of China, the reserves of which account for 11.6% of vanadium and 35.17% of titanium all over the world[3]. The preparation of direct reduced iron powder and Ti-V-rich material based on reduction-magnetic separation is proposed. The process utilizes a new catalyst for titanium ore reduction in rotary kiln followed by magnetic separation. Using this novel technology, the titanium-vanadium and iron are successfully separated. Compared to the traditional reduction of Ti-bearing ore, the reduction temperature reduced to 1050 ?, leading to higher efficiency, lower energy consumption and investment, and broader applications."

The research and development of new, more selective collectors in order to improve flotation efficiency represent one of the main priorities in the development of innovative technologies pertaining to flotation separation of various substances and minerals. The use of collectors’ mixtures is considered as the universal instrument for ensuring necessary proportion of chemically and physically sorbed collecting reagents in every individual case. Currently hard-dressed, refractory ores and man-made raw materials, which are characterized by low content of valuable components, fine dissemination of mineral assemblages and similar technological properties of constituent minerals, are widely involved in the recycling processes. The possibility of processing tailings, which are left after flotation beneficiation, has been considered in the case study of tailings of the Zhezkazgan beneficiation plant and the Tishinsk copper ore deposit with utilization of the modified multifunctional flotation reagents. Modified poly-functional collector is the mixture of composite Aerofloat, TC-1000 and butyl xanthate. Reactants ratio is 1:1:3. The advantage of the suggested flotation reagents is that they are composed of two polar groups and have a long hydrocarbon radical. This structure, being in the water during flotation process, plays a dual role: first, as a collector adsorbing on the mineral surface it produces metal complexes with polar groups in the form of bridges; second, apolar radicals flocculate valuable slimed components, thereby intensifying flotation process. It has been shown that flotation of Zhezkazgan tailings with utilization of the lesser modified reagent amount compared to butyl xanthate has enabled to produce crude copper concentrate with 13.0 % copper grade and 80.22 %recovery. Compared to the baseline technology, copper content of crude concentrate has been increased by 5.1 % and the recovery by 31.4 %. It is shown that tailings flotation of the Tishinsky field by applying modified collector allows for increase of the of useful components extraction in a collective concentrate with: copper 9.63 %, lead for 8.41%, zinc 9.2 %, iron 2.73 %, gold 3.57 %.

To improve the efficiency of the crushing/screening plant of Bazalt-Középko Kobányák Ltd. (Hungary), the implementation of computer aided quality control is planned. In the current phase, the R & D work aims at the solution of high-priority tasks: 1) Developing the process models, validation of the models by means of industrial measurements. 2) Developing the algorithm for the process control of the crushing/sizing plant. 3) Developing the suitable computer program. To develop the mathematical models of crushing (breakage and probability functions) and to determine the model parameters, the experimental industrial trials were carried out on hydrocone crushers of types Svedala H 4800 EF and H 4800 F, changing the gap size and crushing relatively narrow grain size fractions. Additionally, the parameters of the separation function for the screens operating in the system were determined. It was established that the crushing probability depends on the grain size of the feed (Y) and the gap size (s), so the breakage probability S, for each cone crusher, can be well characterised by the function formed using the ratio of these two parameters: SfYsf==. The distribution of the broken grains can be described reliably using the relative grain size distribution function B(? = x/Y) (usually Schuhmann-Gaudin- or Rosin-Rammler-shaped function). For the screens, the probability function ()2()111/NTx = xd ???---???? is suitable for cha-racterising the separation (where x? grain size, ?-open-area ratio, d ? rectangular screen aperture size, N ? number of appearance of the particle on a screen surface). Using these functions, the comminution circuits were described by means of vector/matrix equations. The calculations and measurements verified the reliability of the developed models and algorithms.

In this study, the effect of morphological properties such as shape factors and roughness of the glass beads on their flotation efficiency were determined using image analysis and profilometer methods. There is a considerable correlation between the shape factors, surface roughness and flotation behavior of the glass sample. These results indicate that as the particle shape is away from roundness and smoothness, it acquires more hydrophobicity.

As a result of the main processes of the limestone treatment ? sawing, buffing and polishing, a technological waste is usually obtained. These final tailings consist of a water suspension with highly variable solid phase content and granulometric composition. Since the waste is conducted to a tailing pool or another place, this leads to environment pollution. In this work the slurry waste generated during the limestone processing in a Bulgarian limestone manufacturing company was characterized. The chemical composition, particle size distribution, solid phase content, whiteness, yellowness, abrasion, specific surface and density were determined. The possibility of obtaining building/construction materials from limestone processing waste was studied in a laboratory scale. The technological tests included thickening, filtration and drying of waste products. Continuous operation laboratory thickener was used. Coagulant Accepta® 8302 (aluminum sulphate solution) and anionic flocculant Magnafloc® 155 were found to be the most effective in the sedimentation of the products. Filtration tests were performed using a laboratory pressure filter. Drying tests were carried out in laboratory facilities using the direct heating method. On the basis of the laboratory results a technology for limestone treatment waste was developed. A production line for building materials from limestone slurry was set up. As a result the manufacturing company has a possibility to use circulating water.

The aim of this research is to extract zinc from complex lead and zinc ore containing carbo- silicate lead and zinc minerals using sulphuric acid. Samples, taken from Dareh Zanjireh mine located in central of Iran, were subjected to leaching tests after calcination process. Experiments were planed according to the Taguchi statistical method. The calcinated samples contain 13.98% zinc and the constituting minerals being dolomite and zincate. Various parameters such as speed of mixing, temperature, time, solid to liquid ratio and pH were studied. A solid to liquid ratio of 1:6 gr/mL at 60°C and 800 rpm speed of mixing for 30 minutes resulted in a product with 85.96% zinc recoveries.
