"High-pressure grinding technology is considered as one of the most efficient techniques of ore comminution, especially in terms of energy consumption. HPGR devices has been utilized in many mining-related industrial sectors, including iron and non-ferrous metal ores processing (copper, platinum, gold), as well as cement and limestone flour production. Even though the technology well known (introduced into mineral processing circuits in 80’s), there are still examples of ineffective operation of HPGR devices. This is a result of improper application of HPGR into individual crushing circuit. The purpose of the paper was to analyze selected effects achieved in HPGR on the course and effectiveness of beneficiation operations. Investigations were carried out for copper ore, and investigative programme was run for different values of HPGR pressing force, as well as changeable ore characteristics (content of fine size fractions, material moisture). All crushing products were then treated in flotation process, in order to determine useful mineral recovery. Results of investigations show that HPGR operating pressure influences the metal recovery in proportional way, however too extensive pressure values have relatively lower impact on increasing of the metal recovery. Particle size distribution of HPGR feed and its moisture have lower influence on recovery level than HPGR pressure, but too extensive moisture content influences the higher energy consumption of the roller press, together with less effective comminution. The second aspect raised in the paper was a possibility to control and optimize the HPGR-based circuit. There were presented the proposed approach to adjustment of HPGR operating parameters that enables the higher metal recovery.INTRODUCTION The high-pressure grinding technology, invented and developed by Professor Schoenert in 70’s (Schoenert, 1979), is currently regarded as one of the most efficient methods of hard ore comminution. Since then the technology was introduced into raw materials treatment circuits in many mining and mining-related industrial sectors, including iron and non-ferrous metal ores processing (copper, platinum, gold), as well as cement and limestone flour production. Considerable number of works concerning modeling and optimization of HPGR operation were also presented (Daniel & Morell, 2004, Tavares, 2005, Saramak, 2012, Saramak & Kleiv, 2013). Nowadays high-pressure grinding rolls devices are considered as well know technology with over 500 sold machines, according to various sources."

In this paper, the molybdenite flotation tailing of cleaner-scavenger bank which has a mass of very fine particles has been taken as raw ore to be processed by flotation with/without ultrasonic. The effect of ultrasonic frequency, intensity, processing time and uploading location on molybdenite flotation efficiency is investigated by four-factor three-level orthogonal experiment, and the effect significances of these ultrasonic variables to molybdenite flotation efficiency have also been evaluated. Single-factor analysis of variance is conducted to investigate whether the effect of ultrasonic on molybdenum ore flotation efficiency is significant or not. The samples extracted from different ore species in different time have been mixed to analyze the particle size. The results show that the particle size of +38µm in concentrate obviously increases while the particle size of -25µmobviouslydecreaseswith ultrasonic, which means that ultrasonic is good for flotation due to sludge removing effect. The state discharge standard for arsenic-containing wastewater which is the first kind of pollution is less than 0.5 mg/L. In fact, in a certain company, the acidic arsenic-containing wastewater in non-ferrous smelting was as high as 860 mg/L, which is far beyond the state discharge standard. Obviously, the direct release of this wastewater without further treatment would result in great hazards to the ecological environment. To aim directly at the characteristics of acidic arsenic-containing wastewater, in this study, two steps of treatment including oxidation-flocculation and removal fluoride by mixing alkaline neutralization were suggested. Through analyzing various influencing factors in treatment effects, the optimum technical conditions were obtained. The sediments after treating were recyclable and the secondary pollutions can be avoided. Moreover, the results also show that, all indexes of the effluent after treating are lower than the First Grade Standard of Integrated Wastewater Discharge (GB 8978-1996). This novel method has advantages of short flow sheet, easy operation and low cost.

The productivity index of the Coopracarcegua Ltda., a mid-size coal mining company of Norte de Santander, Colombia, was related absenteeism using accident, productivity and profit data four years. The analysis was based on type, severity and frequency of accidents, number of absentee days; price per metric ton, and other relevant parameters. The enterprise is formed by 5 different mines of thermic coal, each one with different exploitation technologies and different productivity. Each mine was analysed separately and the loss of profit due to absenteeism was calculate for each one. The study showed that the foregone earnings due to absenteeism in terms of the whole productivity of the enterprise was about of 6.6% of the total profit average the 4 years, with calculated values of 14.7%, 3.5%, 8.4% and 4% per year in the evaluated period. The study identified that the most important cause of absenteeism was "General Disease". The foregone earnings in 2009, the highest loss for the analysed period, was about US$ 0.937 million and during the whole evaluated period was US$ 2.46 million.

Yunnan mineral is a kind of containing Ta-Nb rare earth deposit, the most potential economic valuable element in it is Sc, and raw mineral has 17.0 g/t Sc. Take the character of Sc into account, the key problem in producing scandium chloride molten salt by adaptive technology is how to man-ufacturer anhydrous scandium chloride molten salt. During the course above, the key problem is that preventing Scandium chloride from being hy-drolyzed into ScOCl. The ScOCl content of molten salt not only affect purifying scandium but al-so do harm to the production of Mg-Al alloy. In order to restrain the creation of ScOCl, add ammo-nium chloride into molten salt. As long as ScOCl is created, it would be chloridized. Thus, during the course of dehydrating anhydrous chloride molten salt this method prevents scandium from hydrolyzing. Accordingly, the key phase of this producing course is eliminate ammonium chloride and the surplus crystal water, and the most crucial of it is restrain scandium chloride from being hydrolyzed into ScOCl. This research analyzed the theory that ammonium chloride is trend to be hydrolyzed into ammo-nium chloride, and propose the research scheme of restraining this process from creating ScOCl. The new process of restraining the generating of ScOCl and dehydration for crystal water rare earth chloride is adopted: Inert gas temperature increases rapidly to a certain degree to eliminate ammonium chloride and crystal water. The experimental research were done such as : the temperature of eliminating ammonium chloride and crystal water, amount of ammonium chloride, time, temperature growth speed, influence of inert gas flow toward to scandium percent hydrolysis, whereby, we conclude the optimal process condition in this period: Temperature: 400°C, proportion of oxidized scandium and ammonium chloride is 1:1.5(Proportion of oxidized scandium and additional salt is 1:5.4), time is 120minute, temperature growth speed is 10?/min inert gas flow is 5L/min.

In order to investigate the effect of nanobubbles on adsorption of surfactant on mineral surface, the nanobubbles on the surface of calcite with -37µm fraction in the sodium oleate system were controlled by pressurization and decompression to mixing vessel. Subsequently, the adsorption amount of sodium oleate on the surface of calcite were detected by ultraviolet spectrum at different stirring times and different pressures. At the same time, the nanobubbles on the calcite surface were imaged with atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition, a homemade vacuum Hallimond tube device was used for the flotation of single mineral, and the grade and recovery of minerals in concentrate was used to determine the influence of the nanobubbles on flotation. The experimental results showed that a large number of nanobubbles were found on the calcite surface by AFM under the dissolved oxygen difference (DOD) condition of -4 mg/L. And a large difference in adsorption capacity of sodium oleate on the surface of calcite was observed under different air pressure conditions. It indicated that the ambient pressure had a certain effect on the adsorption of sodium oleate on the calcite surface, and this effect did not depend on the constant low pressure or constant normal pressure, but depended on the changing process of pressure. The single mineral flotation experiment results indicated the recovery of calcite under decompression condition (formation condition of nanobubbles) was 1.5-2 times that under constant normal pressure, and the flotation time is much shorter. Moreover, the recovery under constant normal pressure was greatly influenced by flotation time. In this paper, only one aspect of the effect of nanobubbles on mineral flotation was preliminarily explored. It was confirmed that after vacuum-pumping, the adsorption of sodium oleate on calcite surface could be increased, the flotation time also was greatly reduced and the recovery of calcite was increased.

"In recent years, metal producing companies have increased their investment in automation and technological innovation, embracing new opportunities to enable transformational change. Internet of Things (IoT) is one of many transformational initiatives, which can fundamentally revolutionize how industrial complexes operate. Whatever the issue, the answer is in the abundant and growing quantity of real time data and events collected in the grinding and flotation circuits in a mineral processing plant. Based on earlier work, today a grade recovery model permits identifying the best operating conditions in real time. We will review the strategy for increasing the value of the abundance instrumentation in current plants. An optimal Gaudin size distribution model provides augmented information from traditional sensors to find the optimal grind cut to reduce metal losses in the flotation circuits. The large amount of sensors in a flotation circuits permits to estimate the recovery and to find the optimal froth depth and aeration using an air holdup flotation model. The paper will describe the strategy of classifying data for on line generation of insights to using operational intelligence tools. We will discuss the implementation Recovery/Grind strategy with industrial examples in non-ferrous mineral processing and iron beneficiation.INTRODUCTIONThe declining supplies of high grade ores and increasing consumption of mineral and metal products have demanded higher operational efficiencies with minimum capital investments. The objective of copper flotation objectives are based on maximizing the dollars return on the concentrate produced. The economic efficiency is maximized by manipulating the circuit along the grade/recovery curve relationship. To achieve such objective improved stabilization of the grinding and flotation circuits are required (Oosthuizen, Craig, and Jamsa-Jounela, 2017)."

The slag produced in metallurgical smelting processes contains considerable amount of valuable metals. The present work focuses on recovery of copper value by froth flotation from the copper smelter slag. The slag samples are subjected to detailed characterization including automated quantitative mineralogy using Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA). The MLA results indicate that a part of copper is present in sulphide form in fayalite (iron-silicate) matrix and very poorly liberated. SEM-EDX analyses also reveal that a certain part of the copper is present within the fayalite (Fe-Ca-Si) matrix, perhaps either as lattice impurity or very fine grain. The copper smelter slag is ground in wet mode in a ball mill, to particle size distribution suitable for flotation. Subsequently, the slurry undergoes froth-flotation in lab-scale Denver-type flotation cell. Various combinations of sodium iso-propyl xanthate (SIPX) and alkyl hydroxamate collectors are used along with pine oil as frother. A multiple collector dosage is required for effective flotation of non-sulphide copper phases associated fayalite and alkyl hydroxamate is identified as one of the effective collector for non-sulphide minerals. The copper recovery can be enhanced by 7-10% with a combination of collectors as compared to conventional sulphide flotation using only xanthate type collectors. In this research bioleaching or extraction of iron present in a kaolin from La Virgen mine, Anti-oquia/Colombia, was carried out. Organic acids produced in SF with Aspergillus niger were used in the process. The fermentation process was carried out in 3 L aerobic stirred bioreactors, at a temperature of 30 °C, a stirrerd speed of 700 rpm, an initial pH of 4 and a fermentation time variable between one to 8 days, obtaining broth fermentation samples daily per bioreactor. For iron extraction, fermented broth from second to sixth day of fermentation was evaluated and it was found that the fermentation broth of the third day showed a larger potential for iron removal, 786 ppm, by using kaolin with an initial iron content of 1401 ppm. A set of tests using commercial organics acids such as citric acid and oxalic were carried out because those were found in the fermentation broth and it was found that oxalic acid presented three times more iron removal than citric acid.

Soil contamination by organic compounds is one of the most concerned issues on polluted soil. It is well known that there are limited methods to remediate the contaminated soil on site. Especially, the in-situ method for contaminated soil is too difficult to de-contaminate the organic pollutant. In this study, the fundamental ability of soil remediation, which aimed to decrease oil concentration in, in-situ process, have been researched by using a high pressure gas generated from ?crush composition? on artificially oil contaminated soil. The n-hexadecane (n-C16H34) and other organic compounds were selected as soil oil contaminators, gravimetric analysis by soxhlet extraction and GC-MS were used as qualitative and quantitative analysing methods. For the experimental examination, the influences on the difference in the concentration of n-hexadecane (and other organics), the tamping amount, position and repetition of crush composition in soil, and scale (size) of experimental model were investigated. The n-hexadecane concentration reduced by the explosive effect of crush composition showed a reasonable decrease of about 30 wt%~60 wt% compared to the initial n-hexadecane. The removed amount of n-hexadecane and distance from explosion point of the crush composition was related in scale and model of contaminated soil.

The energy dispersion X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis technique is a rapid and accurate method for describing sample?s element component and percentage composition. On the base of profound research for the national and international development and research condition, the author researched the EDXRF analyze technique and the EDXRF analyzer?s principle in depth, the difficulties and the key points for research and development of EDXRF analyzer; gave a scheme for re-search of bench EDXRF analyzer; researched some algorithms used in energy spectrum analysis; developed the energy spectrum analysis software based on the Visual C++ 6.0; together with the energy spectrum analysis software, the author designed and processed the structural of the bench XRF analyzer and integrated the import X-ray tube, thermoelectrically cooled Si-PIN photodiode X-ray detector and pulse amplitude analyzer as a model machine. The result shows: The model machine can be used in multi-element analysis at the same time for different types of dry mineral samples, with fast analysis speed, accurate model and high stability.

The feed to Chadurmalu iron ore concentrator plant is a mixture of magnetite and haematite iron ore with a Fe/FeO ratio of about 8. The feed to plant, after grinding via wet SAG mill, is pre-separated by wet low intensity magnetic separator. Magnetic product is conducted to magnetite processing circuit for producing magnetite concentrate, and nonmagnetic product is directed to haematite processing circuit. Due to surface oxidization of magnetite particles and a decrease in magnetic attraction properties, significant amount of these particles are misled to tailing which results in decreasing the efficiency of haematite processing circuit. This problem can be remedied by using magnetic drum separator with more magnetic intensity and/or gradient. In this paper, the replacement of LIMS separators with wet medium intensity magnetic separators with a field intensity of 3800 gauss on drum surface (MIMS) have been suggested and considered as the most suitable solution to prevent the loss of magnetite particles. The results of carried out investigations with replacement of drum separators in industrial scale, showed that utilizing MIMS in magnetite processing circuit resulted in increasing final concentrate weight recovery on average by 2.59%, without any adverse effect on the concentrate quality; decreasing the magnetite content in the feed to high gradient magnetic separator (HGMS) by about 3.5%; decreasing the feed to floatation part by about 7% and consequently decreasing consumption of chemical reagents; increasing Fe/FeO ratio of the feed to plant. In this study, selective flocculating of diaspore using anion macromolecular reagent as flocculant was tested to separate diaspore from alum-silicate minerals. Firstly, the effect of pH on settling behavior of diaspore and kaolinite dispersions has been investigated. The results show that the maximum settling speed of diaspore and kaolinite appeared re-spectively at pH7 and pH3.33 which is close to the point of zero charge (PZC) of diaspore (6.8) and kaolinite(3.5). This result is in well agreement with the double electric layer theory. Secondly, the settling behavior of diaspore and kaolinite particles in different anion flocculant solution have been researched. The results indicate that flocculant solution concentration significantly affect the selectivity and the flocculating performance of anion molecular. In high concentration solution, both diaspore and kaolinite have faster settling rate compared to blank solution. How-ever, in low concentration solution, the anion macromolecular can enhance the settling rate of diaspore remarkably but has no apparent effect on the settling rate of kaolinite. This result suggests that the tested anion flocculant is a promising reagent for de-silica of diasporic bauxite. Lastly, FTIR method was employed to probe the adsorption mechanism of flocculant on diaspore and kaolinite. The results reveal that there are anion flocculant characteristic bands on the spectra of diaspore but no obvious characteristic bands of flocculant on the FTIR spectrum of kaolinite. This result is in good correspondence with settling test.

The estimated requirement of the nation by the year 2020 is approx. 80 Mt of steel and more than 0.2 million MW installed capacity of the electricity, thereby increasing the consumption of the coking and non-coking coal, which is expected to be in tune of about 75 Mt & 500 Mt respectively. One of the major deleterious factors in achieving the goal is the deteriorating quality of the feed coal used in both steel and power industries. Indian coking coals, in general, are typified by high ash, high inert (both organic and inorganic), low rank, low reactive macerals content, heterogeneous petrographic make-up, inferior coking properties and poor amenability to washing, thereby necessitating suitable washing measure. Coke-based steel industries in India require washed coking coal containing ash % varying between 17-19. The situation demands taking on immediate challenges to fill up the gap between the requirements and supply of coking coal. This paper reviews the R&D attempts in this laboratory and throws light on the key measures as long-term solution to the problem. Search for alternative source of coking coal, like LVC coal and their judicious preparation technology. The low volatile coking coal (LVCC) constitutes about 50% of the total coking coal reserves in India. These coals are characterized by high raw coal ash content (37 to 40%) and very difficult washability potential. If these coals are treated in the existing washeries, which are generally 2 or 3-product systems, the cost of clean coal is high as the byproduct sale value is low. It has been proposed to produce a new type of by product, which enjoys high demand and good coking properties.

"During mechanical flotation of fine liberation sized complex rare earth ores, a large fraction of ultrafine valuable mineral particles are lost to tailings. Fine gangue mineral particles can be entrapped within the froth phase and be floated together with target mineral particles. Another common challenge in ultrafine rare earth mineral flotation is the formation of a sticky froth (excessively stable froth). Thus, the improvement of the flotation of fine and ultrafine rare earth bearing minerals through appropriate cell design and reagent selection is highly desirable. The aim of this study is to investigate the performance of a pico-bubble cavitation flotation column in improving selective recovery of ultrafine rare-earth elements (REEs) bearing minerals from complex and low-grade ores. In pico-bubble cavitation column, very small bubbles are generated which are capable of attaching to ultrafine particles and consequently modifying their surface properties. The overall effect of these processes should lead to improved flotation selectivity and recovery of ultrafine RE mineral particles. In this paper, the effects of a number of flotation operating variables on recovery and grade of REE minerals was investigated using a continuous pilot scale pico-bubble column flotation. At the flotation conditions used in this study, subtle monazite upgrade was observed while gangue Fe oxide was preferentially floated even in the presence of depressants. INTRODUCTION Rare earth elements (REEs) have unique properties such as superconductivity and catalytic activity, and are in high demand for a large number of cutting-edge technologies in the modern world including the production of mobile phones, fuel cells, displays, permanent magnets for wind power generation, high-capacity batteries, green energy devices, etc (Naumov, 2008). REEs tend to be intimately associated within many minerals, and are rarely found in high concentrations in deposits for economic extraction. Up to now, among over 250 minerals containing REEs, bastnasite (Ce), monazite (Ce, Th and La) and xenotime (Y) are the three main minerals that contain sufficient grade of REEs for commercial exploitation (Zhang and Edwards, 2012). The deposits that contain bastnäsite, monazite and xenotime usually have complicated mineral compositions, with various valuable minerals of fine embedded grain sizes in association with complex gangue minerals. In order to ensure liberation of the REEs minerals, fine grinding to less than 30 µm is necessary. This fine grinding leads to difficulty in recovering a large proportion of fine and ultrafine particles in separation processes such as flotation (Trahar and Warren, 1976). Consequently, highly liberated and ultrafine fine valuable REEs particles are lost into tailings during traditional mechanical flotation. Besides, the formation of extremely sticky and stable froth inhibits the drainage of hydrophobic particles. Thus, improving flotation of rare earth bearing minerals, particularly the ultrafine size range, is highly desirable."

Mechanical activation of gibbsite [?-Al(OH)3] is the theme of this paper. Industrially prepared gibbsite used in the study has a mono modal size distribution with a median size, d50=110 µm. Mechanical activation of this gibbsite has been carried out in a planetary mill at ambient conditions. Mechanical activated gibbsite samples are characterised in terms of particulate characteristics, structural characteristics and reactivity. As a result, of milling, mono modal size distribution of the unmilled gibbsite changes to a broad multimodal distribution. Size reduction has been sharp in the initial stages of milling; median size reduces to ~7 µm during 15 min of milling. Thereafter no decrease in median size is observed; rather it is found to increase gradually with further increase in milling time, indicating particle aggregation. Morphological studies of milled gibbsite have shown that the platelets forming the agglomerate are separated first; the separated platelets then undergo breakage. Aggregation of particles sets in the later stages of milling as a result of increased surface area and surface energy. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies have clearly revealed the changes in gibbsite structure during milling. Analyses of XRD data show that the crystallite size of gibbsite decreases as the milling time progresses whereas its microstrain is found to increase. Accumulation of energy in the structure is the result in both cases. TEM micrographs with signs of defects leading to disordering of gibbsite structure complement the XRD results. Reactivity of milled gibbsite, decrease in its deydroxylation temperature and increase in alkali dissolution, is found to increase with mechanical activation. Increased reactivity of milled gibbsite is found to have a strong correlation with the BET specific surface area. Oxidized zinc ores are the main source of zinc metal except sulfides. To have a better understanding about the performance of smithsonite and the main gangue, quartz, in flotation, the aggregation behaviors of smithsonite and quartz in water were confirmed by different techniques (sedimentation tests and optical microscopy). The experimental results show that smithsonite and quartz particles aggregate in the pH range 7.5-11. The results of zeta potential suggest that the aggregation does not correlate with the DLVO theory, when the iso-electric point of smithsonite and quartz is 8.0 and 2 respectively. When the solution pH is less than 8.0, smithsonite has an opposite charge to the quartz particles. Electrostatic adsorption makes effort on these two kinds of particles according to DLVO theory. Whereas, solution chemistry calculation shows the pH range 8-11 corresponds to hydroxide formation, suggesting that this is the species responsible for aggregation. And their concentrations are much higher in sodium hydroxide system than that in sodium carbonate system. Aggregation of smithsonite and quartz due to the flocculation action of zinc hydroxide is proposed.

Acid drainage waters generated in the uranium deposit Curilo, Bulgaria, were treated by means of a pilot-scale passive system consisting of a permeable reactive multibarrier and a constructed wetland connected in a series. The multibarrier had a total volume of 23 m3 and consisted of an alkalizing limestone drain and an anoxic section for microbial dissimilatory sulphate reduction, bio-sorption and additional chemical neutralization. The waters had a pH in the range of about 2.5 ~ 4.0 and contained radionuclides (uranium, radium), heavy metals (copper, zinc, cadmium, lead, nickel, cobalt, iron, manganese), arsenic and sulphates in concentrations usually much higher than the relevant permissible levels for waters intended for use in agriculture and/or industry. The water flow rate through the multibarrier varied in the range of about 1 ~ 17 m3/24 h, reflecting water residence times of about 300 ~ 18 hours. An efficient removal of pollutants was achieved by the multibarrier during different climatic seasons, even during cold winter days at external air and water temperatures close to 0oC. The multibarrier effluents were enriched in dissolved organic compounds and in some cases still contained manganese and iron in concentrations higher than the relevant permissible levels. These pollutants were removed in the constructed wetland as a result of the activity of different heterotrophic microorganisms, including some bacteria able to oxidize the bivalent manganese and iron ions to Mn4+ and Fe3+, respectively.

India is the third largest producer with accounting to fifth largest reserves base of coal in the world. Indian coal has high ash content (15-45%) and low calorific value. The basic processes being used in India at different places for coal washing adopts old techniques. Much of the valuable part is being lost during washing processes. With enhancement of the available techniques and use of new processes like flotation process indicates better recovery of carbon values during washing stage. The same will increase the reserve base, improve economy of operation and alleviate environment related problems. In the above backdrop this paper portrays the case study of an existing coal processing plant in India. The case study includes the modifications being incorporated in the existing process to enhance the product value. The existing practices and the future trend of process technology that could be adopted to meet the requirements in this country are also discussed. To look into the ionic release laws of the sulphide tailings in some copper mine, the effects of the soaking period, temperature, oscillating speed, and pH of the solution on the heavy metals ionic re-lease were investigated through static soaking leaching experiments. The results show that Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Cr3+ are of different leaching behaviors with soaking period. The ionic concentration in soaking solution for four ions has a great gap. Zn2+ is more easily released out of sulfide tailings than Cu2+, Pb2+, Cr3+ , and the ion release concentrations are not proportion to their contents in the tailings. The time for each ion to reach its maximum concentration are different. The minimum concentration do not occur at the first day. Each ion concentration shows different fluctuation characteristic during soaking process. Solution pH, oscillating speed, and temperature affect the releases of Cu2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Cr3+ out of the tailings to different extent. The effect of pH value on ion re-lease for the four ions ranks as Zn2+>Cu2+>Pb2+>Cr3+, the oscillating speed ranks as Pb2+>Zn2+>Cu2+>Cr3+, and the temperature ranks as Cr3+>Pb2+>Zn2+>Cu2+.
