"It was developed in this work a computational tool to aid in anomaly detection present in the operation of ball mills. The tool uses a torque estimator that is based on measurements taken exclusively in the drive motor. The ball mill equipment widely used in the mining industry has, inherent to its principle of operation, high energy consumption and low efficiency. These characteristics are accentuated when the mill operates outside the ideal conditions of velocity and loading. Direct measurement of these variables is extremely difficult because it requires the installation of sensors in moving parts of the mill. Thus, systems that can help monitoring the operating conditions and predict anomalies are useful because they contribute to improving the performance of the process, help to reduce the energetic consumption, wear on the mill surface and frequency of maintenance shutdowns. The detection strategy implemented in this work is based on the fact that operational anomalies such as an inadequate percentage of balls and incorrect angular velocity manifest itself as a change in spectral components of the torque signal in the mill driven by an electric motor. The mill torque was estimated by processing motor variables measured by sensors commonly used for control purpose and installed exclusively in the motor. The mill was operated at various fault operating conditions and signals from electric motor and vibration on the mill shaft were measured. The spectral components present in the estimated torque signal were then compared with signals from a vibration sensor in order to establishing a correlation with anomalous operation condition of the mill. The experimental results showed that the signals obtained has an excellent correlation with other variables obtained by direct measurement and have potential to be used to construct a system for automatic fault detection in the operation of ball mills."

A new short combined flow sheet including high intensity magnetic separation and flotation for a rare earth ore in Maoniuping deposit, China has been investigated. Massive conclusive results demonstrate, that it is critical to separate the ore by high intensity magnetic separation prior to flotation for tons of slimes and nonmagnetic gangue existing. The vital technological parameters affecting flotation have been studied in detail. Modified hydroxamic acid is an efficient collector for bastnasite flotation because of its high selectivity. Flotation results also indicate high temperature that play an unfavourable role on the recovery as well as the grade of bastnasite concentrate, when the rare earth ore is floated with modified hydroxamic acid and sodium silicate depressant. Bastnasite concentrates, averaging over 65 percent REO at an overall recovery of 82-84% is achieved by the new beneficiation technology. Most of the Iron ore washing plants set up in India in the earlier days consist of sizing of the ore by dry / wet screening, washing and classification by screw classifiers. In this classical approach, iron values were lost in the form of fines and ultrafine into the tailing ponds as they had little commercial value in those days and accumulated in huge quantities over the years. As the high grade deposits are getting exhausted and the demand for high grade finer material for pellet making is ever increasing, focus is shifting towards recovering the values from the erstwhile tailing ponds by column flotation. This is also supposed to mitigate to a certain extent the environmental problems caused by the ever expanding and unmanageable tailing dams. A case study is presented wherein a composite sample is prepared from samples drawn systematically from multi - locations in a sprawling tailing dam. Laboratory scale column flotation tests on this composite tailings sample, basically originating from two operating iron ore beneficiation plants of JSW Steel Ltd., one of the leading producers of steel in India are found to be encouraging. Desliming followed by reverse and cationic flotation tests using flotation column resulted in the concentrate of 61.88% Fe, 4.81% SiO2, 2.52% Al2O3 and 3.30% loss on ignition (LOI) from the tailings analyzing 57.86% Fe, 7.10% SiO2, 3.52% Al2O3 and 6.14% LOI with 52% weight recovery. The causes for the quality improvement could be attributed to desliming of un-liberated ultra fines of kaoline and hydrated iron oxides and their further reduction by efficient flotation process. The process and the cationic collector developed for this purpose are adopted in the new flotation plant created to treat these tailings. The first decade of the 21st century was one of fundamentally changed dynamics for the minerals industry. Following intense globalization commencing in the late 20th century production is now concentrated into large businesses that can compete across geography in diverse commodities. Asian industrialization and urbanization is now the main driver of growth in demand for energy and materials. Demand for the output of these industries has risen sharply, reversing decade long trends to reduced real commodity prices. Supply responded with expansions of existing mining and processing operations, and large investment in new resource development. Development of new, lower grade or more remote resources was stimulated. Resource development by global entities in frontier environments reinforced the importance of effective forms of social contract, and of stronger environmental performance. The worst economic shock in decades provoked no significant pause despite large impacts on corporate ownership. State owned enterprises commenced unprecedented foreign direct investment in minerals and energy resources. A thrust towards resource nationalism re-emerged as governments sought to ensure that the export of state owned resources contributes more strongly to government revenue, reducing the burden of trade in scarce resources on other trade-exposed sectors. The unprecedented combination of forces at work has made future predictions difficult, with day-by-day volatility in anticipated corporate fortunes, and investment plans. The challenge for process innovation (and for exploration) has been to keep up, maintaining a lid on costs as lower grade and more challenging ore bodies are brought on quickly in a context of competition for land use, community expectations and continued care for natural and living environments. While new projects have provided the necessary platforms for implementation of innovative approaches, there is evidence that a gap may have emerged between the pace of growth and the pace of innovation. The history of a century of process innovation in the context of growth of output, declining resource grades and commodity prices is presented. The necessary conditions for accelerated process innovation are considered, and future needs and approaches are discussed. Keywords: process innovation, resource development

"In view of the present situation that the traditional environment friendly depressants for galena aren’t very effective in the separation of mixed concentrate including copper sulfide and lead sulfide, this research describes a new environment friendly depressant PD-1 and investigates its effects and mechanism in the separation of chalcopyrite and galena. This study is carried out through flotation tests, analysis of infrared spectra and absorption measurements. It is shown that when O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z200) is used as collector, chalcopyrite and galena can be separated in the presence of PD-1 under appropriate conditions. Therefore, it can be concluded that PD-1 has an excellent depression ability and great selectivity for galena. Meanwhile, analysis of infrared spectra demonstrates that PD-1 can strongly absorb on the galena surface by chemical interaction with Pb2+, while it hardly absorbs on the chalcopyrite surface. In addition, the results of absorption measurements reveal that competitive adsorption occurs on the galena surface between PD-1 and Z200, PD-1 can block the absorption of Z200 on the galena surface. However, PD-1 has a little effect on the absorption of Z200 on the chalcopyrite surface under above conditions. What’s more, the hydrophilic groups of PD-1 molecules can make galena effectively depressed. The results of mechanism analysis are in accordance with those of flotation tests.INTRODUCTION In the processing of copper-lead sulfide ores, the process, copper increase and lead reduction (Zhang et al., 2017) after reagents removal of rough concentrate produced by mixed flotation of chalcopyrite and galena, is usually adopted. However, as a result of tight symbiosis and the similar flotability of chalcopyrite and galena, the separation is difficult (Hu and Feng, 2006). There are 3 kinds of depressants for galena in the separation of chalcopyrite and galena concentrate,including dichromate, sulfite and combined depressants of organic or inorganic reagents (Wei, 2012). As dichromate would cause serious environmental pollution, it is gradually banned to be used in industry (Xu et al., 2017; Lin et al., 2017). what’s more, due to the need of acidic slurry, using sulfite is not conductive to the maintenance of equipment and stable production(Wang, 1999). As for the combined depressants, they also have disadvantages of complex pharmaceutical system and no ideal separation effect (Wei and Sun, 2008). Therefore, the development of new safe and effective depressants for galena is a research focus for researchers in the minerals processing (Chen, 2000). In this paper, a new type of organic depressant PD-1 is applied to the copper-lead separation process of ""copper increase and lead reduction"" using Z200 as the collector. In addition, the performances and mechanism of its depression to galena are studied emphatically."

The overall flow-sheet of producing chromium (III) sulfate is described in this paper. The suitable conditions of each process such as sintering, leaching, aluminum removal, reduction, and de-composition conditions were experimentally studied. The results show it is reasonable to produce chromium (III) sulfate with the flow-sheet pointed out in this research work. The final product is Cr2(SO4)3 solution contained 150~250g/L Cr.

"An understanding of the fundamentals of different breakage mechanisms is critical for successfully modelling comminution processes. Due to the high frequency of low energy collisions in the grinding process, superficial breakage has a significant role in size reduction in mills. To develop a scaling up methodology for characterising low energy surface damage behaviour of ores, a series of surface damage tests have been conducted using three grinding mill sizes with diameters of 1.8, 1.2, and 0.8 m. Two types of gold-copper ore with different hardness were used: C-ore and T-ore. All tests were conducted using wet mode to remove the products during grinding. To ensure low energy surface damage was the dominant mechanism, in all tests the mill speed was reduced to 40% of critical speed. A surface damage index normalised with product mass and surface based specific energy is determined from the results enabling a study of the grinding performance regardless of mill size, energy level or charge mass. Incremental breakage tests using the JKRBT indicate that the A×b values of the T-ore were 60% higher than C-ore, suggesting the T-ore is considerably softer. The fractional mass loss rate for the T-ore in the 0.8 m and 1.8 m mills started from 16 and 7 (1/kWh/m2) while for the C-ore it was 4 and 2 (1/kWh/m2). After 6 minutes the surface damage index in all tests tends towards steady state a constant value, an indication of steady state surface damage condition. It has been demonstrated that this methodology can be a useful basis for characterising superficial breakage behaviour of ores."

"While there is a large industry based on recovering platinum group metals (PGM) from complex sulphide ores containing Cu and Ni, there is little information on the thermodynamics of the matte phase formed on smelting the ore and in particular the behaviour of Pt in the matte.The equilibrium between metallic platinum and industrial mattes was studied in a series of experiments where a small quantity of matte (5g) and platinum foil of 150 µm thickness (0.5 g) were equilibrated in magnesia crucibles at 1400°C under conditions where the oxygen and sulphur partial pressures were fixed.The chemical composition of the phases was determined from EDS analysis using a scanning electron microscope. Line scans were initially used to confirm that the foils had attained a uniform composition across their thickness. The composition of the matte was determined from analysis of an area of matte including the small metallic droplets and dendrites.The results of the equilibrium study are presented in terms of how the oxygen and the sulphur pressure affect the distribution of Pt, between the matte and the alloy foil (Lmatte/alloy). Other variables investigated were matte chemistry, i.e., the Fe content and the temperature. The activities of platinum in the mattes were calculated using a regular solution model describing the activity-composition relationship in the alloy."

"In the differential metal sulfide ore flotation it is desirable to replace the toxic inorganic depressants with environmentally benign chemicals. Chitosan, as a natural and non-toxic polymer, has been proven to be an efficient depressant for chalcopyrite while allowing galena to be floated by xanthate collectors. However, the poor solubility of chitosan limits its potential applications as the flotation could only be carried out at about pH 4 where chitosan is soluble. A carboxymethyl derivative of chitosan, named N-carboxymethyl chitosan (N-CMC), was synthesized by substituting the amino groups of chitosan with carboxymethyl groups. The substitution significantly improved the solubility of chitosan. The structure of N-CMC was studied and compared with chitosan via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Flotation tests were performed on single minerals and mineral mixtures (with weight ratio of 1:1) with the addition of appropriate amount of potassium ethyl xanthate (KEX) and N-CMC. The solution pH was varied from neutral to alkaline. The flotation concentrates and tailings were collected and analysed for the contents of copper and lead. FTIR measurements showed that new peaks of C=O stretching of -COOH and N-H deformation of -NH- appeared in N-CMC, which indicated that the carboxymethyl groups were introduced and the amino groups were the sites for the substitution. Flotation results indicated that N-CMC could depress either chalcopyrite or galena depending on the pH. The results were not affected by the sequence of KEX and N-CMC addition. Therefore, N-CMC is potentially useful in Cu-Pb sulfide separation following a bulk Cu-Pb flotation. The N-CMC was also found to have surface cleaning functions, and was able to remove contaminating copper ions from galena surfaces. Therefore, its application in sulfide ore flotation is expected to be more robust than the original chitosan."

"Recent improvements in the resolution of X-ray computed tomography (CT) make it a promising alternative to traditional time consuming, error prone laboratory procedures for mineral liberation analysis, such as heavy liquid fractioning and measurements on polished sections. All indications are that in a few years CT will be well-established in many laboratories as a rapid technique for accurate liberation studies. In this scenario it would be able to provide liberation spectra or washability data in tens of minutes following sampling. However, although CT is a fast evolving technology, its on-line application is unlikely in the foreseeable future.Dual-energy (DE) radiography is another X-ray technique originating from non-destructive evaluation (NDE) and medical fields, which allows retrieval of the volumetric content of valuable components from two-phase particles in a fraction of second. Two radiographic images at different X-ray energies of a single particle or a monolayer of particles are taken in short time sequence. The thickness of the two phases is calculated particle by particle by image subtraction, whereupon particle grades can be derived. The development of the method for on-line applications requires the presentation of non-overlapping particles in the gap in the X-ray source detector measurement couple. Straightforward extension of the principle to multiphase systems is not possible. The paper reviews the state of the art of these two techniques as applied to mineral liberation problems."

"To remain competitive in an open market, mining companies are more and more requested to optimise their complex and highly multivariate processes. The increasing amount of process data, brought about by intensive use of instrumentation and the progress in computer data acquisition, enhances the need for more and more powerful and robust tools for the analysis and modelling of the process data. Now, with the emergence of multivariate data analysis (MDA) techniques, on-line clustering of mineral process behaviour is possible and could help in the extraction of valuable process operation indicators. MDA can be used in different mineral processes such as flotation, grinding, smelting etc.In this paper, we focus on grinding process considered as the most costly and power consuming node of the mineral processing scheme. Different objective-oriented levels of data clustering will be addressed.First, the evaluation of grinding operation taking into account data and constraints from all processes before (e.g. blasting, crushing) and after (e.g. flotation, leaching, etc.) the grinding node. The second level deals with process diagnosis by differentiating operation level and identifying behaviour drifts. Control and optimisation are two other levels concerned here with the selection of optimum trajectories in the drift correct.Industrial plant data are processed in order to illustrate the feasibility and the potentiality of MDA applications in addressing the clustering and interpretation of grinding mill behaviour."

Flotation researches of indium-beard marmatite from the Dulong multi-metallic ore in the Yunnan Province of China has been studied in order to improve the grades and recoveries of zinc and indium of the zinc concentrate in the Dulong concentration plant. The experimental results have shown that copper sulfate mixed with a chemical reagent X-1 as the activator in the marmatite flotation produced a much better beneficiation than copper sulfate alone, increasing the zinc and indium recoveries of 10% and 6%, respectively, while the concentrate grades were unchanged. Also, the new activator acted well around pH 10, allowing large savings on lime consumption in the marmatite flotation. In addition, it has been found that a sufficient activated time of activator with ore slur-ry in the flotation is needed to achieve good beneficiation of the marmatite ore.

Vanadium-beard bone coal is one of important vanadium resources in China.To extract vanadium tailings from Stone coal is produced after extracted vanadium from stone coal through the roasting, leaching and other processes. About 120-150 tons of tailings will be produced in extracting 1 ton of vanadium pentoxide. A lot of tailings that are willfully piled up have caused serious environmental pollution and wasting of resources; it is therefore necessary to realize its resource utilization. This study increases the activity of vanadium tailings by means of alkali fusion, and then uses different alkali activators to react with vanadium tailings so that geopolymer with high value added is produced. Sample of geopolymer is acquired from a mixture containing vanadium tailings, alkali activators, water and a little sodium aluminate through compression-molding process under 20MPa pressure. After cured in room temperature for three days, the maximum compressive strength of the sample can reach 36.2MPa. XRD analysis indicates quartz, the major crystal phase in vanadium tailings is decomposed,and the activity of vanadium tailings is heightened. FTIR and SEM analyses show: structural change having an important impact on the mechanical strength of geopolymer occurred during the process of vanadium tailings generating geopolymer.

The process flow-sheet adopted in treating hematite iron ore in India through wet circuit generates not only 15-25% slime of Run-of-Mine (ROM), but also results in loss of very high quality fine iron ore particles along with it. As the reserves of hematite iron ore is depleting, it is necessary to explore the possibility of upgrading other types of low grade iron ore and slime for recovery of iron minerals; extensive research in this field is being carried out. While beneficiation of low grade ore is yet to be established, slime beneficiation has been quite successful and many installations of slime treatment plant are underway. In SAIL mines, the slime is mainly the discarded particles from Classifiers, which are less than 0.2 mm sizes. R& D initiative has been focussed on the beneficiation of the slimes (49-60% Fe, 3-10% Al2O3 & 4-10% SiO2) of Dalli mines to generate concentrates assaying 62-64% Fe, 2-3% Al2O3, 3-4% SiO2 and a few innovative facilities for the same has been introduced at this mines of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP). At Dalli mines, the slime is of very poor quality. A typical slime analysis assays 48.54% Fe, 15.1% SiO2, 8.5% Al2O3 and consists nearly 60% (by wt.) particles less than 38 micron. Slime analysis revealed substantial quantity of very high density mineral particles, those causes jamming of Thickener due to faster settling. A novel technique has been implemented to classify the concentrate ore particles from the gangue mineral particles by processing through Fluidized Bed Classifier (FBC) system, which is a gravity concentrator, to treat 50% of the slime generated and the rest is treated through de-sliming hydro-cyclone followed by Medium Intensity Magnetic Separator (MIMS). A special self-vibrating launder has been designed and introduced into the system to recover tiny iron ore particles, which could not get captured by the permanent Neodymium rare earth magnet in MIMS. The classified iron mineral particles from FBC are further treated in a battery of hydro-cyclones followed by modified Slow Speed Spiral Classifier (SSSC) unit. Multiple feed entry system to the SSSC unit is unique and use of particular feed entry point depends on the desired quality of the product and thus converted to a beneficiation equipment rather than mere de-watering unit. By processing slime in FBC system, the valuable iron ore particles with 62.5% Fe, 5.2% SiO2, 2.23% Al2O3 has been recovered from the slime at a material yield of 30%. And very high valued concentrate particles with more than 65% Fe has been sorted out through the magnetic separation route. The overall extra production of beneficiated slime concentrate is 40-45 tph with 63-64% Fe from a slime feed of 120-130 tph solid. This paper outlines few new approaches in iron ore slime beneficiation at Dalli mines for maximum recovery of valuable minerals. "It developed an alternative to traditional flotation enrichment refractory of complex lead-zinc ores to obtain conditional lead and zinc products. The scheme involves the use of the processing method of gravitational enrichment of the primary cycle and the combined gravity-flotation-hydrometallurgical in finishing. The method has a high level of comprehensive utilization of mineral raw materials in relation to the elements that are extracted in the process of enrichment in lead concentrate, and the increase in recoverable value of processed ores. INTRODUCTION The primary source of lead are complex sulphide lead-zinc ore, lead ore actually rarer. The value of lead and zinc ores (except lead and zinc) is determined by the presence in them of a wide range of associated components: silver, contained mainly in galena; gold; bismuth in the form of its own minerals, but is associated with galena; cadmium contained mainly in the sphalerite; indium, thallium and gallium contained in sphalerite and galena; selenium and tellurium are present as impurities in the sulfide, tellurium is also found in the form of its own minerals. Of note harmful impurities antimony, which is often associated with lead sulphosalts and arsenic, having a substantially own minerals. By quality (content of lead, or the total content of lead and zinc) lead-zinc ores are divided into rich, ordinary and poor; by oxidation - to sulfide (with a lead oxides content less than 15% and zinc oxide content less than 10%), mixed and oxidized (50% oxide); the latter have a subordinate importance as a source of zinc and lead. Traditionally, the most contrasting technological properties of sulfide ores of nonferrous metals considered flotation properties, which determines the priority in the selection of flotation technology of their enrichment. Other methods of enrichment - gravity (jigging and enrichment in heavy suspensions), radiometric sorting (separation) are used as preliminary operations whose main purpose is to increase the content of lead and zinc in the ore sent to flotation, as well as the removing of part of empty rock in dumping tails prior to flotation. Effective implementation of these methods is possible at large size emphasizing in the ore of lead and zinc minerals, which is typical of the rich ores and which so far mainly worked. At the same time, non-ferrous metal ores (polymetallic, lead-zinc, copper-zinc, etc.) have a sufficiently high contrast to gravitational properties since ore minerals have a higher density compared with a rock minerals. But the gravity of the practice of non-ferrous ores enrichment is not widely used, despite its high degree of environmental safety and lower cost expensive."

The Rhodococcus opacus microorganism was evaluated as a biocollector for flotation of barite. The electrophoretic behaviour of the mineral, before and after R. opacus interaction, was evaluated and showed that the cells adhesion shifted the mineral zeta potential curves. Adhesion tests were suggested a high affinity of the bacteria for barite. The experiments of the adsorption rate of the R. opacus on the mineral surface showed fast kinetics, achieving a maxim of cell adsorption after 5 minutes. Adsorption isotherm curves for barite could be categorized as Langmurian (L) type II. The best bioflotability results for barite achieved values around 75% for a R. opacus concentration of a R. opacus concentration of 250 ppm in the pH around 5.0. The studies were compared with the flotation of barite using a traditional collector. The bioflotation experiments were discussed considering the obtained adhesion tests. The results were supported by the Thermodynamic approach for selected pH values. The fundamental flotation studies showed the paramount potential that R. opacus presents as a biocollector and its possible application in the mineral flotation industry.

In this study, a hydrometallurgical treatment involving solvent extraction of zinc using D2EHPA (di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid) has been investigated to recover zinc from an industrial zinc leach residue. The residue was leached with sulfuric acid producing leach liquor which was subjected to solvent extraction for enrichment of zinc and removal of impurities. Operating variables for the zinc extraction process, such as pH of the mixed solution (0.5~5.0), concentration of D2EHPA (5%~40%, w/w), temperature (25~60°?C), A/O volumetric phase ratio (1/2~4/1), concentration of tri-butyl phosphate (TBP) as modifier (3%~7%, w/w), concentration of NaR2RSOR4R in aqueous phase (0.05M, 0.1M, 0.2M) were also studied. Practically all zinc was extracted from the aqueous solution at pH 2.5 with 20% w/w D2EHPA in kerosene. At this operating condition, zinc could be extracted at one theoretical stage at A/O phase ratio of 1/1, as calculated by the McCabe-Thiele method.

"The aim of this work was the study of the effect of the type (Fe3+, Al3+ and Fe3+ and Al3+ mixture) and of the coprecipitant concentration on As5+ removal by ACF. Removal of As5+ using Sodium Dodecylsulfate (SDS) as a collector was studied by Adsorbing Colloid Flotation (ACF) at laboratory scale. The morphology of the precipitate retained in the foam was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS).By comparing the coprecipitant type and concentration studies it could be concluded that As5+ removal in the presence of Fe3+ (160 mg.L-1) alone, or a Fe3+ (80 mg.L-1) and Al3+ (40 mg.L-1) mixture, is equivalently effective (99,9%) and greater than in the presence of Al3+ (80 mg.L-1) alone (97,7%).Through SEM/EDS analyses, it was possible to observe that both morphology and composition of the precipitate produced in the solution and retained in the foam depend on the physico-chemical conditions of the system, that is, on the species present in the solution."

"Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about 2 million tons per year. It is sourced from both sulfide and laterite ore, but currently laterites are becoming more attractive for nickel production due to the depletion of high grade nickel sulfide ores. Laterites are generally processed by hydro or pyro-metallurgy and therefore, pre-concentration of nickel before such processes is very important. In this paper the effect different physical methods (including flotation) on the pre-concentration of nickel in laterite ores will be discussed. The ore used in this study was a laterite from South East Asia. Nickel was upgraded using different methods such as magnetic separation, flotation and sizing. The effect of ore mineralogy on choosing the best strategy to upgrade nickel will be discussed. The findings of this project will help to unlock a substantial volume of nickel with significant value from laterite ores.INTRODUCTION Nickel is an important metal with the total global consumption of about million tons per year which has grown rapidly during last decades (Mackey, 2011). Nickel is sourced from two different types of ores, sulfide and laterite. The majority (about 70%) of the world’s nickel resources occur as laterite ores which are often complex, and low grade, and therefore expensive to treat using conventional methods (Xu et al., 2013). Today, nickel laterites are more attractive for production of nickel as the amount of high grade nickel sulfide ores has diminished (Janwong, 2012). Therefore more economic processes to recover nickel from these resources should be developed.It should be noted that nickel laterite mineralogy is complex, and nickel often presents as ultrafine inclusions in a number of mineral phases. Because of the low nickel concentration and variable distribution in these phases, effective upgrading by physical separation processes would be challenging. Researchers have tried to improve nickel laterite flotation recovery by using a number of feed preparation techniques. A summary of the nickel grades obtained using flotation and magnetic separation as reported in the literature is presented in Table 1. It can be seen that only minor nickel upgrades have been reported. Quast et al. (2015) have concluded that the complex mineralogy of nickel laterite ores makes it difficult to achieve any significant nickel upgrading by physical techniques, including flotation. They achieved 40% increase in the nickel content (from 1.0% to 1.4%) at a nickel recovery of 43% (Quast et al., 2015). Various attempts in USA, New Caledonia, India and Australia, to upgrade nickel in laterite using magnetic separation have not been successful (Quast et al., 2015). A recent comprehensive review on topics influencing nickel laterite flotation has shown that further investigations in the flotation of laterite ores are undoubtedly warranted (Farrokhpay & Filippov, 2016)."
