During incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW), some heavy metals and other environmentally harmful elements are liberated into bottom ash. The stricter environmental regulations require a higher immobilization efficiency of the ash before its safe disposal and application. Vitrification is one of the promising options, and has the advantages of high destruction efficiency of organics, high immobilization of heavy metals, and large volume reduction. The main components of the vitrified slag are SiO2, CaO, Al2O3, Fe2O3, Na2O and MgO, and the compositions have direct effect on the glass formation during vitrification, and further on the physical and mechanical properties of the slag. To provide essential data for the utilization of bottom ash as vitrified slag, the phase relations and thermodynamic properties of the oxide system need to be systematically investigated. In the present study, the liquidus temperature of the typical vitrified bottom ash slag was determined by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurement. High temperature equilibrium experiments were conducted to investigate the phase relations of the sub oxide system of CaO-SiO2-Na2O by means of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Microprobe Analysis (EMPA) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The results show that the melting temperature of the vitrified bottom ash is around 930°C. In the CaO-SiO2-Na2O system with less than 50 mol% SiO2, the liquidus temperature de-creases with increasing amounts of Na2O along the tie-line of Na2O-Ca3Si2O7. Two compounds Na2Ca3Si2O8 and Na4Ca8Si5O20 are identified in the oxide system.

In this paper, the problem of sedimentation and consolidation of poly-disperse suspensions is considered. The solid particles are assumed to be of different densities. If the sediment solids stresses are dropped out of the system equations and using the Richardson and Zaki hindered settling model, it has been found that in the limit, i.e., as time approaches infinity, the fluid is completely displaced to the top of the sediment zone. Furthermore, the species segregate completely with the heavier and coarser particles at the bottom of the sediment and the lighter and finer particles at the top of the sediment. Practical observations do not support these behaviors and physical-ly such behaviors do not exist; consequently, results of this kind in the literature are unrealistic. Here, a mathematical structure of the poly-disperse sedimentation and consolidation problem has been proposed. In this case the compaction zone species solids stresses are introduced in the momentum balance equations of the system. The species solid stresses in the sediment are constrained so that the system equations are consistent, i.e., sedimentation and consolidation of two or more identical species should behave as a mono-disperse system. Such a condition has not been recognized and imposed in some of the studies in the literature, which has led to unreliable results. Two practical forms of species stresses that satisfy the system consistency condition are here proposed. It should be noted that the study of sedimentation and consolidation of poly-disperse suspensions could result in more realistic suspension interfaces compared to mono-disperse suspensions, and could lead to more reliable engineering designs of tailings ponds. Predictions of sedimentation and consolidation in models of poly-disperse suspensions are demonstrated using published data.

Despite the fact that nickel (Ni) laterites accounts for about 60 % of the world?s nickel mineralization, commercial processing of complex, low grade Ni laterite ores by conventional beneficiation (e.g. magnetic, electrostatic and flotation separation) still presents intractable challenges, particularly in heap leaching. Invariably, low grade laterite ores require aggressive hydrometallurgical techniques (e.g., highly acidic lixiviant leaching at ambient or elevated temperatures) for Ni and cobalt (Co) extraction. As a precursor to heap leaching, agglomeration of the multi-mineral phase feed particles into robust and porous granules of 4-10 m permeable bed, is essential. In the present work, several basic and applied studies of the agglomeration behavior of real Ni laterite ores and selected oxides and clay minerals (hematite, quartz smectite and kaolinite) which constitute the predominant host gangue phases of typical laterite ores are performed. Isothermal, batch agglomeration tests involving sulphuric acid solution as a binder were carried out to produce coarse, narrow-sized (5 ? 40 mm) granules which were well characterized. The influential role of feed ore characteristics (e.g., mineralogy/chemistry and primary particle size distribution) and binder composition (30 vs. 44% w/w H2SO4) and dosage (15-25 wt.%) in agglomeration behavior and granule properties were examined through several characterization techniques including granule size, compressive strength, bed percolation and re-wetting stability and 3-dimensional micro-structure analyses. Links between feed mineralogy/chemistry and size, binder formulation, agglomeration behavior, curing conditions and final granule properties and structural characteristics are established. The implications of the findings to Ni laterite plant agglomeration for enhanced heap leaching are discussed. Many flotation kinetics models have been studied in the literature. Their applicability was extensively investigated and argued in detail. However, model selection criteria were not adequately discussed from the statistical points of view. In this investigation, the kinetic behavior of a complex copper sulfide ore was studied in a mechanical Denver flotation cell focusing on flotation kinetics of chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite. Different flotation kinetics models including nine common empirical models and four mathematical models namely Hill, Chapman (Sigmodial function), single rectangular (Hyperbola equation) and exponential were applied to the experimental data. In addition to assessment of the goodness of fit criterion for each model, a factor of model complexity was considered using information criteria (IC) (i.e. Bayesian information (BIC), low of iterated logarithm (LILC) and Akaike information (AIC) indices). The obtained results showed that the IC indices could simply manifest the best-fitted model to the experimental data. Whereas, the coefficient of determination values (R2) were relatively same for all models. By taking the R2 and model complexity criteria into account, the exponential model was chosen as the best representative mathematical model to demonstrate chalcopyrite kinetic behavior. However, Chapman model was selected as the best one for the flotation of pyrite and molybdenite. In case of the common first-order flotation kinetics models, fast and slow flotation kinetic model (Kelsall) was reasonably fitted the best to the given data of chalcopyrite. However, the gas/solid kinetics adsorption model was chosen as the best-fitted one for pyrite and molybdenite. Furthermore, it was found that mathematical models represent better results in association with flotation kinetic behavior of chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite due to the consideration of more parameters in modeling. Finally, it was concluded that the IC indices must be applied to the process of model selection due to consideration of goodness of fit, complexity of a model and model consistency.

Alumina demand is steadily climbing around the world and is likely to continue to do so for many years. In such a commodity industry, the question arises as to what effort should be expended on innovation, given that for an individual company, the drivers of change are cost and quality as the market demand is essentially assured. This is of course a long-term view. The current conditions are less attractive. In this presentation, we review the broad issues that are considered targets for collaborative development by the industry as recently updated in the alumina industry roadmap published by the International Aluminium Institute in 2010. While they cover areas such as ?mine rehabilitation, residue management and use, alumina production from high sulfur bauxite, bauxite beneficiation, energy efficiency and alternative technologies for alkali and alumina recovery from bauxite residues,? it must be remembered that each refinery is different in terms of the feed material and the circumstances of waste disposal. Of particular interest is the more competitive area of breakthrough technologies. In the presentation, we will consider a range of opportunities that could transform the industry, from relatively near term possibilities such as bauxite activation through possibilities to eliminate crystallization as currently practiced to complete alternatives, such as the use of hyperaccumulating plants. Against this optimism, some of the realities that hold back breakthrough innovation will be presented for discussion.

The processing capacity, ease of use, and reliability are featuring Metso?s state-of-the-art cone crushers. Crushing is a complicated process affected by numerous parameters. The optimized crusher kinematics is one of the key factors for high performance. To fine tune the crusher kinematics and crushing chambers one needs to know how different parameters affect. The main cone crusher parameters are head angle and diameter, gyration point, shaft speed, eccentricity, stroke length, and inclination and design of crushing cavity. Selecting the correct combination of these parameters is a multi task optimization challenge. In practical life there are more factors to achieve satisfactory performance, like crushing chamber wear and profile management keeping the performance constant over the whole wear life, control of crusher frame loads, ability to handle disturbances in feed material etc. The extensive research work has lead to a solution that enables the highest possible material density in the crushing chamber. This design provides maximum reduction of processed material and thus increased share of 0/10 mm product. High density in the cavity offers further benefits, such as high throughput capacity, less material contact with wear parts and even load on crusher frame and bearings. The challenge that an equipment supplier involved with high density crushing is how to design a robust cone crusher, which is able to cope with the high crushing forces due to high resistance from the crushed material against the gyration movement. Metso has launched a new series of cone crushers HP3, HP4 and HP5 that are all able to work in high density crushing applications The test results and evidence from over 300 installations clearly prove the effectiveness and importance of high density crushing. In this investigation, one of the most energy consuming stage of the cement manufacturing process, grinding stage, was studied. The aim of the study is to reduce the energy consumption. Optimum operating parameters were determined. Experimental studies were performed at three differ-ent stages. Grinding of limestone, clay and marl which are the main components of the cement, to approximately below 90 microns, was the first stage of the cement grinding. At this stage, effect of feed size and ball charge were investigated. At the second stage, the Bond work index of clinker and additives (slag, trass, limestone and gypsum) was found separately. After forming composite cement with clinker and additives, the Bond work index of this mixture was also determined, thus the results of separate grinding and grinding of mixture were compared. The Bond work index of mixture was found as 13.59 kWh/t, while the arithmetic mean of the Bond work index values of components was 14.90 kWh/t. Finally, clinker and additives (slag, trass, limestone and gypsum) were ground under the same conditions. At this stage, laboratory type of ball mill was used in order to understand grinding characteristics of the cement components. As a result of the experiments, it was found that energy consumption for the grinding will be lowered if the mills with 38 % ~ 40 % ball charge are used in the cement grinding. Moreover, grinding with mixture of clinker and additives gave better results than separate grinding of these components in terms of energy consumption.

"Feldspars used by ceramic and glass industries as fluxing agents are mainly obtained from high quality feldspar deposits. The demand for feldspar as raw material for industrial applications especially in ceramic manufactures is continuously increasing. However, due to the depletion of those deposits, the research activities related to the recovery of feldspar from the lower grade feldspar deposits and feldspar bearing rocks such as pegmatite, granite, arkosic sandstone and syenite have been intensified in the last two decade. In Bulgaria, the main deposit of arkosic sandstone is located in the area of Shumen town, NE Bulgaria. In Srednya deposit arkosic sandstones are found in Upper Cretaceous sediments (Santonian). In this formation, there are two major industrial minerals - feldspar and quartz. They may be of economic value and possibly suitable for commercial uses. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the beneficiation and upgrading processes of Srednya deposit arkosic sandstones. In a laboratory scale it was studied the possibility to obtain the feldspar concentrate and quartz sand from arkosic sandstones. Particle size distribution, chemical and mineralogical compositions of quartz-feldspar sands were determined. The bench-scale tests using the KOALIN AD laboratory experimental facilities were conducted. Many processing techniques were tested: disintegration, washing, sizing, carbonate flotation and feldspar flotation. The experimental results show that there are possibilities to obtain the silica sand with low content of Fe2O3 - below 0.02 % and potassium feldspar with content of K2O > 14 %. A new technology for recovery of feldspar and silica sand from arkosic sandstone was developed."

The compound material of Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite was prepared by the hydrolytic method with purified diatomite and TiCl4. The compound material was characterized by SEM, XRD, TEM, EDX, XPS, and the application test of the compound material was studied. The characterization test results showed that the Nano-TiO2 was coated on the surface of diatomite, the crystal of TiO2 is anatase, and the average crystal size is 12 nm. The pore diameter was reduced, but pore volume and surface area of the compound material are increased after Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite. The application test results for treating coking waste water and formaldehyde gas show that the compound material of Nano-TiO2 / diatomite has adsorption and photo-catalytic function and strong degradation performance for phenol and formaldehyde.

Soil reconstruction and improvement trials and vegetation experiment is carried out at Shuilong-shan acid rock waste dumps at Dexing Copper Mine in China. pH value, Cu2+, Pb2+, Zn2+, etc. concentration in acid rock drainage (ARD) is also monitored every month since 2005. The results of experiment show that: Lime and topsoil stripped from open-pit is appropriated soil improvement material. Full cover soil improvement method is suitable for flat area, contour soil improvement method and hole soil improvement method is appropriate for slope area. The optimal plant species is ligustrum lucidum Ait,Lespedeza bicolor, Paspalum notatum, Veti-veria zizanioides, Eragrostis pilos and Neyraudia reynaudian. It is the best for Arbor, shrub and grass to be arranged in pairs or groups in order to remold optimal landscape. Pilot sites, covering 3ha, is established. Vegetation coverage reaches 90% in platform area, 40% in slope area. pH value in ARD increased slightly, Cu2+, Pb2+ concentration in ARD decreased, Zn2+ concentration in ARD decreased and varied slightly.

"Natural graphite exists mainly in three types of amorphous graphite, flakes graphite and lump graphite. Graphite from Bao Ha mine, Lao Cai province is with 11.8 carbon-graphite %, forms in flakes and dense crystals. The paper presents the comparison among enrichment of Bao Ha’s graphite by two types of froth flotation with 90 g/t kerosene oil as collector, 50 g/t montanol 800 as frother, in natural pH, and at 20 wt.% of solid. The differences among three flow charts indicated that using middling flotation and re-middling flotation for the cleaning tails and the scavenger concentrates, the final concentrate was improved and containing up to 94 carbon-graphite % of flakes graphite, up to 82 carbon-graphite % of fine graphite with 93.48 % total recovery, moreover, carbon-graphite in the final tail is 0.86 % with 6.52 % recovery. However, a refining mill and a classification stage were applied before doing the middling flotation stages.1. INTRODUCTIONGraphite (black lead or plumbago) is used in many industrial applications due to its high electrical and thermal conductivity, lubricity, and chemical inertness. High quality graphite can be used in metallurgy, molding, brake linings, batteries, and fuel cells. Graphite, composed exclusively of the element Carbon, is rather common mineral, but fine crystals are rare. Graphite is soft (hardness: 0.5-1 Mohs scale); has a layered, planar structure; occurs in platy or acicular (occasionally) morphology (Minerals.net; Pierson, 1993).USGS (2017) reported, global consumption of natural graphite continuing increase in the period of 2012-2016. In 2016, China used up 35% while produced 66% of the world’s graphite. Graphite mining are being developed in Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia and Tanzania, but production reduced in Canada from 2015. Based on the statistic of Statista.com shows from 2011 to 2014 and a forecast to 2020, the global graphite demand is mostly in refractories, batteries, others, lubricant/crucible, foundry and pencil, and that is increase every year.Graphite Vietnam lies on the fault of the Red river from Yen Bai to Lao Cai, the reserves is estimated around 29.3 million ton and mostly in Lao Cai province where has Nam Thi graphite mine and Bao Ha graphite mine (MOIT, 2008). Vietnamese graphite products could reached to ~92% graphite carbon (Cg) (Tran Thi Hien et al., 2008). Studied samples was collected in Bao Ha graphite mine, is located in Lao Cai province. Graphite Bao Ha exists in two types as graphite flakes and amorphous (Hoang Thi Minh Thao et al., 2017)."

"In this work, a novel compound 4-Amino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole was first synthesized and its selective adsorption mechanism on the surface of chalcopyrite was comprehensively investigated using UV-vis spectra, zeta potential, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray Photoelectron Spectrscpy Measurements(XPS), and Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) and first principle calculations. The experimental and computational results consistently demonstrated that AMT would chemisorb onto the chalcopyrite surface by the formation of a five-membered chelate ring. The first principle periodic calculations further indicated that AMT would prefer to adsorb onto Cu rather than Fe due to the more negative adsorption energy of AMT on Cu on the chalcopyrite (001) surface, which was further confirmed by the coordination bonding energies of AMT-Cu and AMT-Fe based on the simplified cluster models at a higher accuracy level (UB3LYP/Def2TZVP). The bench scale results indicated that the selective index improved significantly when using AMT as a potential chalcopyrite depressant in Cu-Mo flotation separation.INTRODUCTIONFroth flotation is one of the most important processes to separate valuable minerals from gangue by taking advantage of differences in the physical chemistry of their surface properties(Laitinen et al., 2014), particularly in their surface hydrophobicity. Hydrophobicity differences between valuable and gangue minerals could be regulated by adding different chemical additives (surfactants)(Kor, Korczyk, Addai-Mensah, Krasowska, & Beattie, 2014), such as collector and depressant. It could be conducted economically to selectively separate and enrich the complicated and/or poor ores, by adopting appropriate surfactants. For example, the beneficiation of molybdenite usually relies on a two-stage process to realize flotation separation of molybdenite from other unwanted sulphide ores(Wie & Fuerstenau, 1974). In the first step, a bulk molybdenite concentrate is produced by utilizing kerosene/ diesel oil and pine oil/alcohols as collector and frother, respectively. Second, sodium hydrosulphide, sodium cyanide, ammonium sulphide, or Nokes reagent are adopted as depressants in the separation stage. However, these depressants are usually toxicant and cannot meet the requirements of environmental protection. A large number of efforts have been taken to develop alternative environmentally-friendly depressants (Ansari & Pawlik, 2007; J. H. Chen, Lan, & Liao, 2013; Li et al., 2015; Yin, Sun, Hu, Zhai, & Guan, 2017; Yin, Sun, Hu, Zhang, Guan, Liu, et al., 2017; Yin et al., 2016). Although some novel and environmental-friendly depressants have been reported to achieve good performance in Cu-Mo flotation separation at a laboratory scale, there are still some challenging problems, including toxicity, high price or poor performance in practice, which severely limit their practical applications in Cu-Mo flotation separation on a commercial scale."

Opportunities to monitor and control primary grinding mill performance are strongly sought after in the mineral processing industry. Currently, limited on-line information about mill charge motion and content is available to mill operations for control purposes, leading to periods of lower throughput, instability, variable product size and accelerated mill liner and lifter wear. In response to this need, CSIRO has developed an on-line surface vibration monitor for primary grinding mills which produces data that has been shown to provide new information about the mill charge in terms of toe and shoulder position, as well as potentially key features such as the overall charge level, the distribution between rock and balls in the mill, and the impact of the charge on the mill liners and lifters. This paper outlines the key features of the on-line monitor system, particularly those relating to data transmission, data analysis, and the design of the monitor and its independent power supply. It describes the coupling of single vibration sensor data from the CSIRO on-line monitor to the actual operating conditions of a SAG mill and how the vibration response and hence mill operating conditions vary as a function of time, including during mill equipment failures such as a broken discharge grate. Opportunities for improved mill control based on the data from the on-line monitor are also discussed, as well as the implications in terms of mill processing and maintenance performance. Recently a CSIRO monitor was also installed on a ROM ball mill and analysis of the vibration sensor data from this installation is currently underway. Preliminary findings from this installation will be presented along with comparisons of generic information, such as toe position (measurement precision and operation variability) and vibration signal (intensity, sensitivity and operation variability), between this type of primary grinding mill and AG/SAG mills.

"Our recent studies revealed that the sulfide minerals in contact with water during grinding produced hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) where the amount of H2O2 production by the minerals found to be in the order of pyrite > chalcopyrite > sphalerite > galena. The H2O2 effect on the oxidation of pulp components and its influence on the concentrate grade and recovery in flotation have been studied and the results have been presented and discussed in this paper. Studies have also been carried out to build correlation between percentage of pyrite in the concentrate, grinding conditions and concentration of OH•/H2O2 in the pulp and as well of controlling the formation of these species through known chemical means for depressing the generation of the oxidant. Flotation tests using a complex sulfide ore with the same reagent scheme that is being used at Bama concentrator in Iran but with the addition i) Na2S reductant and ii) inorganic (EDTA) and organic (TETA) surface modifiers, during grinding stage have been performed to judge the beneficial or detrimental role of H2O2 on the selective flotation of sulfides. The results demonstrate that the selectivity of metal sulfides against pyrite increases with increasing generation of H2O2 in the pulp liquid.INTRODUCTIONOur recent studies have illustrated the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by metal-sulphides during grinding in the presence and absence of oxygen (Javadi Nooshabadi & Hanumantha Rao, 2013a; Javadi Nooshabadi & Hanumantha Rao, 2013b; Javadi Nooshabadi & Hanumantha Rao, 2013c; Javadi Nooshabadi & Hanumantha Rao, 2014). In the absence of oxygen, it was found that pyrite surface is catalytically active and able to breakdown water molecules to form OH• free radical and thereby deriving oxygen in the formation of H2O2 from water molecules. The in-situ formation of H2O2 and its influence on sulphide flotation has not been addressed yet. The presence of strong H2O2 oxidant in the pulp liquid and its selective oxidation of pyrite would be beneficial in depressing pyrite flotation. Therefore, it is important to build correlation between percentage of pyrite in the concentrate, grinding conditions and concentration of OH•/H2O2 in the pulp as well as to study possible ways of flexibly controlling the formation of these species through known chemical means for depressing the generation of the oxidant."

This paper reports the results of a detailed mineralogical study of typical, low-grade Australian nickel laterite run-of-mine ores. Successful development of an effective beneficiation process for upgrading such low grade laterite ores relies on good knowledge of the laterite mineralogy and the value metal(s)? distribution characteristics. Both QEMSCAN and quantitative X-ray diffraction techniques were used to conduct the mineralogical analysis of three types of laterite ores, and the results were compared with those obtained by chemical analysis. Some of the major challenges faced included accounting for the mismatch between the nickel values measured by QEMSCAN and those recorded by chemical analysis. This was primarily due to the relatively low concentration of nickel in the ores and its wide dissemination among several major host minerals in complex association. Careful analysis showed that the limit of nickel detection in iron oxide host mineral grains under normal operating conditions was around 4%. "High voltage breakage is a novel comminution technology that shows considerable potential for various applications in mineral processing and recycling. It relies on highly energetic electrical pulses to induce electrical explosions in rocks, causing the formation of plasma channels and powerful shockwaves that result in fracturing and fragmentation of particles. There has been considerable interest in this technology for its ability to weaken rocks and preferentially liberate target minerals, as previously demonstrated by other authors. Weakening has the potential to significantly reduce energy consumption during comminution, or alternatively, increase throughput of a circuit. Better liberation may yield an improved concentrate grade and/or recovery, reduce fines losses to tailings or increase the grind size required for liberation, thereby also reducing energy requirements. This review aims to increase general awareness of this technology, and promote further research into it by providing a general summary of the theory underlying high voltage breakage, as well as the envisaged applications of this novel technology. A brief history of the technology is presented before progressing onto the physics underlying the electrical and geomechanical aspects of high voltage breakage. Key results regarding weakening and liberation are discussed, and some mention is made of current challenges and planned developments to increase the throughput of high voltage breakage units to the level where it can be integrated into new and existing processing circuits."

"Mining is a "continuous" process of dependent breakage and materials handling stages, from the initial breakage of the in-situ rock, extraction from the pit or underground, and finally to the surface stockpile and downstream processing. Over time, underground and in-pit mining activities diverged into two separate disciplines, each using a variety of in-situ breakage techniques and surface activities, with processing techniques dependent on mineralogy or grades. This artificial separation of underground and open pit activities was exacerbated when the two became increasingly managed as separate cost centres rather than as an integrated unit. Mass mining essentially began in 1903 when metallurgist Daniel Jackling initiated the world’s first open pit, mining system at the Bingham Canyon porphyry copper deposit in Utah. The term mass mining has since been construed to mean large open pits and cave mining methods, including their variants. These methods are largely non-selective, involving the mass extraction of a deposit irrespective of the uneven distribution of grade and mineralogy. The advantages of mass mining have historically applied mostly to low grade, large scale deposits. With the depletion of mineral reserves closer to the surface, however, new deposits are deeper, lower grade and mixed with more impurities. These and other factors make extraction more difficult and costly. Mass mining is moving rapidly into a new and less certain environment where revolutionary changes are required to effectively deal with future challenges which are technical, economic and environmental (licence to operate). This keynote address presents current initiatives being considered for the next generation of both underground and surface mass mining systems in order to significantly reduce lead times and mining costs (CAPEX and OPEX), substantially increase productivity and meet license to operate requirements. The address is designed to solicit discussion on how better integration of mining and processing can become a platform for these next generation of mass mining systems and can also help the industry deal with the future challenges."

"Pyrrhotite in nickel-copper sulphide ores is nickeliferrous and intimately associated with pentlandite. Due to its low nickel content, pyrrhotite rejection is an important step in processing of these ores. In our laboratory, various reagents were investigated for their effect on pyrrhotite depression. Among these, a combined use of triethylenetetramine and sodium metabisulphite was found highly promising.The work described in this paper has two parts. The firs part is a summary of results obtained on process samples from the pyrrhotite rejection circuit at Falconbridge’s Strathcona Mill. The second part involves simulation of the circuit performance based on the reagent conditions used in the experimental work and the concept of split factors.Two sets of reagent conditions were evaluated. The first one involved baseline conditions, simulating the current reagent performance. The second one simulated the impact these new reagents can have on the circuit performance.The simulation results obtained under baseline conditions indicated a good agreement with the current circuit performance. The simulation results suggest that at practically the same pentlandite recovery and tailing grades, the circuit concentrate nickel grade can be doubled through effective pyrrhotite rejection by these new reagents."

"In this paper, experiences from Polish non-ferrous metals ores enrichment plants in the copper and blende concentrates quality improvement are discussed. The blende concentrate being produced in ZGH Boleslaw S.A., with Zn content of about 54,5% is characterized by the relatively high magnesium content reaching a level of 1% resulting from the dolomite presence, while for the zinc production by electrowinning a concentrate in which magnesium content should not exceed 0,3% is required. The implemented new technology for the quality improvement of blende concentrate is based on the leaching of zinc concentrate with sulfuric acid aimed at dissolving of the contained dolomite, and then flotation of the leached concentrate. It allows to obtain a concentrate with magnesium content below 0,1% at the simultaneously increased zinc content to about 57,5%. In the paper, laboratory tests results on the development of optimal flotation flowsheet for the gypsum removal and the industrial tests results concerning the process optimization of this flotation are discussed. In turn, the copper concentrate being produced in Polish copper ore enrichment plants KGHM PM S.A., is characterized by the increased organic carbon content - above 8%. It creates problems with the smelting of this concentrate because of difficulties with the heat removal derived from the combustion of organic carbon in the flash smelting process. The implementation of segregating flotation to the industrial practice allows the effective production of two concentrates with the differentiated chemical compositions - a concentrate with increased copper content and reduced organic carbon content for the flash smelting process, and a concentrate with lower copper content and increased organic carbon content for the shaft smelting process. In the paper, conditions of the segregating flotation and the achieved results are described."
