In India, bauxite deposits are concentrated in Central India, Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. Bauxites from various regions in Gujarat were identified during the present investigations of geochemical mapping. Different types of Bauxites samples were collected from Kachchh, Jamnagar, Porbunder, Junagarh, Bhavnagar and Amreli areas of Gujarat state and were studied in detail for their geochemical signatures to plot the data on Geochemical map. Raw bauxites were characterized by using powder XRD, XRF, ICP and optical microscopy techniques (with the help of Model microscope having both transmitted and reflected light setups) and were later examined to grade their quality. Most of the bauxites from Kachchh region were of high-grade (gibbsitic) type; while those of Sourashtra region were of low-grade (lateritic / calcitic) types. Most of these bauxites were either of ferruginous/lateritic or of calcareous/calcitic types. Based on the mineralogical composition, such as gibbsite, hematite and/or goethite, Kaolinite and calcite minerals present in particular bauxites, the deposits were graded. Finally, the Geochemical mapping of Bauxites for Gujarat region was prepared and discussed.

The compound material of Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite was prepared by the hydrolytic method with purified diatomite and TiCl4. The compound material was characterized by SEM, XRD, TEM, EDX, XPS, and the application test of the compound material was studied. The characterization test results showed that the Nano-TiO2 was coated on the surface of diatomite, the crystal of TiO2 is anatase, and the average crystal size is 12 nm. The pore diameter was reduced, but pore volume and surface area of the compound material are increased after Nano-TiO2 Supported on the diatomite. The application test results for treating coking waste water and formaldehyde gas show that the compound material of Nano-TiO2 / diatomite has adsorption and photo-catalytic function and strong degradation performance for phenol and formaldehyde.

Arsenopyrite is often associated with sulphides like pyrite, chalcopyrite and galena in refrac-tory gold ores. Selective flotation of arsenopyrite from associated sulphides is desirable for effective gold extraction when the gold is preferentially associated with the arsenopyrite matrix. By contrast, presence of arsenopyrite in flotation tailings poses a serious environmental threat due to arsenic dissolution. To prevent arsenic contamination from the mine wastes, it would be more economical and environmentally beneficial to remove this mineral during the froth flotation step. Use of Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans in the detoxification of arsenic containing sulphides is outlined in this pa-per. Biomodulation using Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans resulted in the preferential depression of pyrite from arsenopyrite. By suitable conditioning with cells and collector effective separation of arsenopyrite from pyrite was achieved. Biomodulation with wild cells did not yield separation of arsenopyrite from chalcopyrite. However, bacterial affinity could be induced to a desired sulfide mineral through environmentally controlled adaptation techniques. Through the use of arsenic-adapted bacterial cells, selective removal of arsenopyrite from chalcopyrite was readily achieved.

A novel ilmenite collector, tert-butyl benzoic hydroxamic acid (TBHA), was investigated in this paper. The flotation performance and adsorption mechanism of TBHA to ilmenite were evaluated through pure mineral flotation tests, ?-potential measurement and IR spectrum analysis. The experiment results indicated that TBHA exhibited strong collecting capability to ilmenite under pH 6.0-8.5. At pH 7.0-10.0, TBHA existed in the form of anionic species in aqueous solution, and the ?-potential measurement results showed the surface of ilmenite maintained negative and more negative after the adsorption TBHA on it, which inferred that TBHA might adsorb on the surface of ilmenite through chemical interaction. The IR spectrum analysis further confirmed the chemical interaction between TBHA and ilmenite surface. The Cu-Co ore studied here belongs to the oxide type. The oxidation rates of copper and cobalt are69.30% and 78.78%, respectively. The content of Cu in ROM is 1.34% and that of Co is 0.096%. The ore contains 4.64% carbon.Based on the process mineralogy and previous metallurgy tests, the principalprocess flow-sheet of ?grinding fines 80% -0.074mm, sulphide flotation followed by oxide flotation, and flash flotation for oxides? has been determined.The handling of carbon is determined through tests. The depressant PNL-1 depressed carbon effectively, improved the recovery of sulphide minerals and reduced the reagents consumption.The operation of the flow-sheet was also changed to better at the same time. "The aim of the project was to develop a methodology applicable to different South African coal types to be able to predict with a high degree of certainty what kind of reagent will be suitable for flotation of a certain coal type.The study included 5 coal samples from different collieries and included Highveld seam 3 and 4 coal (as one sample), Waterberg coal (zone 10 -11), Highveld seam 5 upper coal and Witbank seam 2 and seam 4 coal. Seam 3 and 4 (mixture) coal, Waterberg and the seam 5 upper coal were all found to be vitrinite rich coals. The coal characterisation study included petrographic analysis, proximate analysis, float-sink analysis, oxygen-containing functional groups, surface extraction, flotation release analysis and contact angle measurements.The flotation tests showed that the best reagents to float all of the coal samples studied are iso-decanol and dodecene. These reagents produced flotation products that are near to the release curve. Statistical relationship for predicting ash content and yield that can be expected for a certain coal type and selected collector was obtained. From the relationship, the accuracy of the yield is above 95% (p-value below 0.05) with a linear regression of 0.9289. The accuracy of the ash is slightly lower with a linear regression of 0.7841 but also above 95%."

The Miraí plant from Votorantim Metais, has two screening stages to the bauxite classification after scrubbagem. The final product has hold the larger size of 0,84 millimeters (20 mesh). There are two sieves Haver & Boecker (model R-TE 3658 x 10972), which have four modules with cut size sieves of 10 mesh (1.70 millimeters) and ¼ inch (6.35 millimeters) on the primary screen, and 20 mesh (0.84 mm) on the secondary screen, all made of polyurethane. The actual configuration was established according to the empirical tests realized that aimed the increase material load on the secondary screening. However, having in mind the screening process improvement and use the fractions smaller than 0,84 mm, which have significant levels of Alumina and low reactive silica, was proposed a new test of change the sieves opening for 6 mesh in the primary screen and 28 mesh for the secondary sieve. The objective of this work was measure the ore alterations on the particle size distribution on the screening steps, increasing the plant weight and ratio recovery before and after the test.

Bioleaching method makes use of bacteria in solving metallic sulphides, so that these bacteria tend to convert insoluble metal sulphides into soluble sulphates. Since the kinetics description of this process is inevitable for better interpretation of relation between metabolism and growth of live organisms, as well as optimization of metals extraction processes, in this paper, this description is represented and designed in mathematic (kinetics) model for copper sulphide minerals based on Monod kinetics model. According to this model, special growth rate of bacteria (?) is a hyperbola function of restrictive substrate concentration (S). By Solving and developing of Monod kinetics model, a comprehensive kinetics model for bioleaching of copper sulphide minerals results. The designed is also applicable for other metal sulphides.

In a first stage of our investigations material properties of fly ash (three acidic and one alkaline type originating from combustion of various age coal) obtained from four various dumps have been characterized. In a next step systematic mechanical activation experiments??grinding??and measurements have been performed with various ashes to establish relations between grinding fineness (specific surface area), specific work input demand of grinding and activity. In a third phase utilization of a mixture of mechanically activated fly ash and lime for producing an independent binding composition has been assessed involving determination of interrelationship(s) between the degree of activation of fly ash, the lime concentration and the resultant strength of the obtained concrete. Finally, pilot size experiments were conducted and a test road section was built to explore possibilities for the production of suitable binding composition from the mixture of fly ash and lime as well as the applicability such mixture for road construction. After summarizing major achievements of the first and second stages of the work (history) the present study deals with the research conducted in stages three and four. Experimental results support the conclusion that the obtained binding material is suitable for construction of road bedding.

"Stirred media mills are widely used in the industry for fine grinding. Most of the applications work in wet mode, however dry grinding in stirred media mill comes forward more frequently nowadays. The present paper deals with the differences and similarities of the wet and dry grinding in stirred media mill from energetic and mechanochemical point of view as well. Grinding experiments in batch stirred media mill were carried out with different materials. During the experiments zeolite and kaolin were used as feed material. The grinding experiments were carried out at different stress energy and stress number values; the grinding work was measured during milling. After grinding X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), particles size analyzes by laser scattering were carried out on the ground materials. As a result of the systematic grinding and analytical measurements a comprehensive comparison was carried out on the wet and dry grinding and their usefulness for mechanical activation in stirred media mill. INTRODUCTION The natural zeolites are crystalline hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth characterized by the structure that contains frameworks responsible for the high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and absorption capacity. The frameworks are interconnected by cavities and resided by cations variable in size, coordinated by water molecules. Since zeolite comprises SiO4 and AlO4 tetrahedra interlocked by oxygen atoms that are situated in the structural nodes, their characteristics differ due to the varieties in the structure-directing agents and Si/Al ratio (Colella and Wise, 2014; Malekian et al., 2011; Terzic et al., 2017). The most common natural zeolite occurring in high amount, of industrial importance and involved in milling and MA is the clinoptilolite, in the literature equivalent to “natural zeolite” designated for high clinoptilolite bearing volcanic tuffs. Its amount in the host rock must reach ~ 40 % by weight to obtain the CEC and adsorption desired in its applications. In the highest quality rock might reach 80-90 % by weight (Favvas et al., 2016), but most often is the 40-60 % by weight content, associated with smectites, improving the CEC and adsorption of the tuffaceous rock. The application of such natural zeolites is problematic in many cases due to high silica (quartz, cristobalite and volcanic glass) content and beneficiation (concentration and extraction of pure zeolite) are not feasible. Thus, mechanical activation is a possible way to alter the other than clinoptilolite minerals generating high specific surface area and functionalized particle surfaces to enhance adsorption, reaction or particle adhesion. The zeolites easy availability and the utilization cost-effectiveness have prompted the research on their physicochemical and structural properties (e.g. adsorptive and molecular-sieve activity, heat resistance, and microporous cage structure) and finding new options for their application (Kusuma et al., 2013; Musyoka et al., 2014; Rida et al., 2013; Terzic et al., 2015b). Apart from the presence of exchangeable framework cations which are crucial for the adsorption ability, and a certain degree of pozzolanic reactivity. The thermal stability of dehydrated phases is another important characteristic for use of the zeolite in composite materials that are exposed to high temperature. Thereby, the zeolites found a wide application possibility in the design of the construction composites (Albayrak et al., 2007; Najimi et al., 2012; Vejmelková et al., 2015), as well as for resolving of the environmental protection issues like wastewater refining or heavy metal elimination (Gómez-Hortigüela et al., 2014) even from contaminated groundwater using passive methods like permeable reactive barriers (Gombköto et al, 2016). The froth phase plays an important role in the flotation and upgrading of the final concentrate. At present, the techniques that have been used in the mineral industry to measure the froth recovery have limitations. The aim of this paper is to investigate the performance of the froth in an industrial flotation cell. A unique device has been developed which is capable of decoupling the froth zone from the pulp zone. It consists of two concentric tubes. The inner tube acts as a dropback collection chamber or catcher. The particles that detach from the froth phase fall directly into the catcher and are collected as froth dropback. The froth recovery measurements were carried out in a rougher bank of a copper concentrator treating sulphide minerals. The dropback device is designed so that it can be immersed into a plant size flotation cell and plant froth recovery measurements can be taken at any given time. During the experiments, the bubbles laden with valuable mineral particles entered the device from the plant flotation cell, subsequently rising to form a froth layer at the top of the device. The particles that detached from the froth zone were collected in the dropback collection chamber whereas the concentrate sample was collected by a launder. By drying, sizing and chemical analysis of the concentrate and dropback samples, the froth recovery, was estimated on the basis of the valuable component. A citric acid leaching test after heavy medium separation process was performed to remove the heavy metal contaminat such as Pb, Cu, and Zn from contaminated soil. The lead component was removed from soil by heavy medium separation whereas zinc component shows 0 % - 37.9 % removal ratio with particle size. The citric acid leaching was conducted to remove the remained zinc component. The removal ratio of Zn reached to more than 95 % under the conditions; 10 % in pulp density, 200 rpm in agitation speed, 50 °C, 2 mol/L in citric acid concentration at 2 hrs in leaching time. These results suggest that the heavy medium separation method followed by citric acid leaching is effective for treatment of soil contaminated with various chemical forms of heavy metal. In many base metal sulphide concentrators reagents such as collector and cyanide are often added to the grinding mill as well as to the flotation circuit. Whilst good reasons can be cited for splitting the reagent addition in this way, the benefits of such are rarely quantified and the complex reagent-mineral-media interactions occurring during milling are often poorly understood in terms of pulp chemistry. A new laboratory batch grinding mill designed by Magotteaux allows the user to measure, monitor, and control the pulp chemical conditions during grinding when testing different ores and media. Some of these parameters include pulp pH, pulp Eh, temperature, gaseous atmosphere, and dissolved oxygen concentration. In a recent development, the mill has been coupled with a simple on-line reagent monitoring system, designed by CSIRO, which allows the levels of species such as xanthate and cyanide in the grinding pulp to also be measured continuously during milling using a robust UV detection system. In this way the uptake of collector during grinding and the rate and ex-tent of cyanide interaction with the minerals and media can be determined as a function of grinding time. A series of grinding tests using an Australian nickel sulphide ore was conducted with the coupled system in which the cyanide dose, xanthate dose, and media type were systematically varied. The xanthate and cyanide levels were monitored as a function of grinding time and the data collected are discussed in terms of the pulp chemistry of the system and implications for plant reagent dosing strategies.

The effective removal of heavy metals from aqueous wastes is among the most important issues for many industrialized countries, How ever biosorption, i.e. the uptake of heavy metals by non- living biomass, has gained increased credibility during recent years. Biosorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution, on pretreated and immobilized Aspergillus niger was investigated in a batch and countinuous reactors. A.niger biomass pretreated by boiling in 0.5 N NaOH solution for 15 min, exhibited higher Cr(VI) removal capacity than autoclaved biomass. The optimum adsorption pH value observed for Cr(VI) ions was 2. The Cr(VI)removal rate increased with a decrease in pH. The influence of contact time, pH, Cr(VI) concentration, biomass concentration and temperature on Cr(VI) removal were also evaluated. Biosorption of Cr(VI) on pretreated biomass followed the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models.In this study A.niger biomass was immobilized in Na-alginate matrix. The biomass beads packed in a column were able to remove metal ions.In this study we used two different flow rate in a column, 1.5 mL/min and 3 mL/min.The breakthrough data obtained for Cr(VI) was adequately by the Thomas and Yan models and the adsorption capacity of the biomass was found to less than the adsorption capacity obtaind in the batch study. When the beads containing biomass become saturated with metal ions, the adsorbed metals were eluted using 0.5 N NaOH solution. Therefor nearly 90% of Cr(VI) was desorbed by NaOH solution.

In this paper, various methods, such as XPS, XRD, SEM and zeta potential measurement are applied to investigate the action mechanism of sodium sulfide in flotation of lead and zinc oxysalt minerals. The experimental results show that the mechanisms of sodium sulfide in flotation of lead oxysalt minerals and zinc oxysalt minerals are different: on the surface of cerusite, there is lead sulfide phase formed under the reaction of sodium sulfide, resulting that the cerusite surface shows the form of galena, which is advantageous to the adsorption of anion collector and improves the floatability of cerusite as a result. On the surface of zinc oxysalt minerals, there is no zinc sulfide phase formed, but the sodium sulfide increases its surface electronegativity, and enhances the adsorption of cation collector lauryl amine, so the floatability of zinc oxysalt minerals is improved. The difference of action mechanisms of sodium sulfide on lead and zinc oxysalt minerals exactly explains the reason why different collectors are selected in the flotation of cerusite and smithsonite, which are both carbonate minerals although.

Biohydrometallurgical technologies based on activity of acidophilic microorganisms oxidizing ferrous iron, sulfur, and sulfide minerals are widely used to extract base and noble metals from sulfide ores and concentrates. As sulfide minerals oxidation is exothermic, industrial processes are usually preformed at 40–50°C. Moderate thermophiles predominate under these conditions. Most of moderately thermophilic acidophilic microorganisms that oxidize metal sulfide are mixotrophic, i.e., they use both organic nutrients and CO2 as carbon sources. Carbon availability is crucial for microbial activity and affects efficiency of biohydrometallurgical processes. Aeration with CO2-enriched air is often used to increase microbial activity in biooxidation reactors. Organic nutrients can be used as alternative carbon source for moderately thermophiles performing biooxidation of sulfide concentrates. We performed several experiments with different sulfide concentrates to study effects of organic carbon sources on biooxidation efficiency and demonstrated that application of such organic nutrients as yeast extract (YE) and molasses made it possible to increase biooxidation efficiency. For example, addition of 0.02% YE in the nutrient medium increased biooxidation rate of pyrite–arsenopyrite gold bearing and chalcopyrite concentrates in batch mode at 45°C. YE addition increased oxidation rate of sulfide sulfur and gold recovery level from 65 to 87% and from 73 to 81%, respectively. Similarly, YE addition increased copper extraction from 47 to 54%. At the same time, YE addition increased efficiency of biooxidation of pyrite–arsenopyrite gold bearing concentrate in continuous mode. Without YE addition, oxidation rates of pyrite and arsenopyrite were 65.7% and 94%, while gold extraction was 71%. YE addition (0.02%) made it possible to oxidize 74% and 95 % of pyrite and arsenopyrite and extract 78% of gold. Addition of molasses (0.02%) similarly affected biooxidation efficiency. Thus, addition of organic nutrients in nutrient media is a promising strategy for improvement of biohydrometallurgical processes.

"The results of mineralogical and technological studies of platiniferous dunites from Svetloborsky zonal massif (Urals platinum belt) are presented and the basic typomorphic signs of productive mineral assemblages are substantiated. The characteristic features of platinum ore mineralization are revealed: a wide range of iron-platinum alloys, enrichment of ore-formed system by the elements Os, Ir, Rh and activity of the S and As in it, intrusion of Fe-Ni sulfides in platinum and its fusion with magnetite. More than 80% of PGM mineral grains has size less than 100 microns, that determines the possibility of significant losses of platinum in the process of gravity separation and the need for additional recovery processes for small and fine fractions of platinum tailings and sludge products. Summarized results of laboratory tests of small-volume sample processing of platiniferous dunites are presented and the processing flow sheet is developed and tested. The flow sheet incorporates several stages, including stage-wise grinding and gravity separation of ore using the centrifugal concentrator Knelson KS-MD for differently sized material and flotation treatment of tailing products using new classes of reagents for additional recovery of PGM fines."

"Besides valuable metals of Cu, Sn, WO3, Zn, there are S, Ag, CaF2, In and so on in a complex ore deposit in south China (which belongs to Hu Nan Shizhuyuan Non-ferrous Metal Limited Liability). Although it proved reserve amounts to 3.5×107 ton, its crystal character limits its utilization in large-scale. It features complex relationships between valuable minerals, finest crystallized particle size, low-graded valuable metals (Cu 0.30%, Zn 0.5-0.7%, Sn 0.2%, W<0.1%). If only tungsten minerals are considered, it means WO3 grade is too low (the cut-off grade of WO3 is 0.1% in China). Only Cu and Sn minerals are recovered from 2006 and Cu recovery is less than 70%, Sn 15-20%. Other valuable metals of W, Zn, S and CaF2 were lost in the tailings. To make good use of the ore, the technology of fully recovering Cu, Sn, W, Zn, CaF2 and rare metals are in urgent need. After systematic researches, the flow sheet of "bulk flotation of Cu-Zn minerals at first, then Cu-Zn separation, then recovering sulphide by flotation, then recovering iron minerals by magnetic separation, then bulk flotation of Sn-W minerals after desliming" is developed. Furthermore, specific Sn-W collectors of BK411 and BK412 are applied into the processes and better indexes are obtained. The industrial indexes are listed as followings: the content of Cu, Zn, Sn, WO3 of ROM ore is 0.31%, 0.65%, 0.13%, 0.03%; Cu and Zn recovery are 82.23% and 37.79% respectively; 63.76% of Sn and 34.34% of WO3 go into the Sn-W bulk concentrates. Economic benefits are remarkable."

Three spiral concentrators having different geometries were compared in a chromite processing plant. They had different diameters, helix-cross sections and capacities. Two of the spiral concentrators were manufactured in China and one of them was manufactured in Australia. The tests were carried out in a closed circuit experimental setup by using a low grade chromite ore. The pulp densities kept the same during the operation, and the samples were taken simultaneously. The effects of the different positions of the splitters on separation and the feed rate were the parameters that were observed during the experiments. The performances of three spiral concentrators were found to be different. To clarify the effect of the particle size on the separation in spiral concentrators, the screening was applied to the feed. The samples were sieved from 75µm. The test results indicated that the separation performance decreased dramatically in very fine particles. Although fine particles caused some problems in spiral concentrators, fine grinding is required for this particular chromite ore for better liberation. A suitable method for the fine particles should be investigated for acceptable recovery.

A fast, reliable, and low cost characterization of ore minerals products, as they result from different processing actions, represents one of the most challenging targets in the mineral processing sector. Today different techniques are available according to different sampling strategies and analytical principles. In this paper, the possibilities offered by the adoption of hyperspectral imaging based sensing units working both at micro- and macro-scale are presented and discussed. According to the different phases and stages of ore minerals and products characterization, and starting from the analyses of the detected hyperspectral firms, it is thus possible to derive useful information about mineral flow stream properties and their physical-chemical attributes. This last aspect can be utilized to define innovative process mineralogy strategies and to implement on-line procedures at processing level. The present study discusses the effects related to the adoption of different hardware configurations, the utilization of different logics to perform the analysis and the selection of different algorithms according to the different characterization, inspection, and quality control actions to apply.
