"Russia is among the nations holding the world's largest lithium ore reserves. Lithium is of key importance for the global economy. Therefore, it is important to review the current state of technology research aimed at finding the most effective solutions for the recovery of lithium from promising reserves in Russia. In Russia, a number of process solutions for the flotation of spodumene into salable concentrate (5% Li2O) have been implemented at the earlier existing complex low-grade ore concentration project. By applying these solutions, a sample of high-grade spodumene ore (4.7% Li2O) of the Greenbushes deposit was processed into a spodumene concentrate (7.5% Li2O) at a high recovery (~93%) of lithium. In Australia and Canada, new processes have been developed for the recovery of high-grade spodumene concentrates from high-grade ores using dense medium separation and flotation. For the recovery of mica lithium concentrates from low-grade ore, a flotation process was developed in Russia using the cationic collector ANP-2 and Oxifos-B as an additional collector. Low-grade ore containing 0.14% of lithium oxide was processed into a 2.7% Li2O concentrate. New hydrometallurgical lithium concentrate and ore processes are developed to avoid high-temperature (>1000 °C) roasting. The Sileach process (Australia) includes leaching of lithium ore with sulfuric acid in the presence of a halogen-containing component at a temperature of 95-115 °C. In the Russian process, lithium is recovered into an alkaline solution from low-grade spodumene ore in a pressure alkaline leaching environment (250 °C, NaOH concentration > 300 g/l). The developed concentration and hydrometallurgical methods will allow to design on their basis efficient processes for recovering salable products for hi-tech industries from lithium ores.INTRODUCTION Lithium has many unique and important properties. It is the least dense hard metal. Its alloys have some of the highest strength-to-weight ratios. Lithium has the lowest melting point of all known solid elements and is used as a highly-effective heat transfer medium. The high demand for lithium is due primarily to its unique electrochemical potential and low thermal expansion coefficient. It is used in the production of glass and ceramics, in petrochemicals, metals, medical and other industries. Since the late 20th century, the electronics industry has been the largest consumer of lithium. In recent years, lithium has attracted much attention also as an important component of ultra-lightweight electronic devices. It is also the preferred metal for electric batteries used in mobile electronic devices, vehicles, household power generators, making it an important resource for the development of environmentally friendly technology. Leading automotive brands have ambitious plans for the production of electric cars — Tesla Motors, VW, Toyota, GM, BYD Auto. It is expected that the production of electric vehicles alone will triple the demand for lithium by 2025. A sharp increase in the production of lithium is expected. Lithium has all the prerequisites to become a strategic resource of the 21st century. (Deutsche Bank, 2016; Bradley et al, 2017)"

Considering the subtractive trend of the sulfide and high-grade zinc ores in worldwide and also in Iran, Nowadays special attentions have been drawn to the extraction of zinc from its other resources such as low-grade oxide ores and secondary resources. Oxide ore of the eastern part of Mehdi-abad lead and zinc mine is silicate and has an average grade of 7% (with cut off grade of 4%). Main mineral of the Mehdi-abad ore is Hemimorphite and this mineral is associated with Goethite, Hematite, Ferrous Dolomite, and Manganese oxide mineral so that oxides of Iron, manganese and silica include almost 50% of the total ore. In this paper, the results obtained from the leaching kinetic study of the low-grade zinc oxide ore using Sulfuric acid are presented. The effects of particle size, reaction temperature, acid concentration, and solid percent on the dissolution rate have been investigated. The results obtained from the Taghochi approach showed that the zinc recovery is about 78% under the following optimized conditions: particle size: 106µm, leaching time: one hour, temperature: 45°C, acid concentration: 15% and solid percent: 15%. Kinetics study was revealed that zinc minerals leaching controlled by diffusion rate through the product layer during leaching time with the activation energy of 5 KJ/mol and compliance with the 1- (2/3. x) ? As opposed to large household appliances, in the processing of which dissambling has an important role, this possibility is pushed into the background as the size decreases. The practicable solution is physical liberation of the used small electronic household devices (by comminution) and separation of the liberated components according to their physical properties. In the first phase of the experimental work the structural/material composition of the typical products (mixer, kitchen robot, hair dryer, coffee machine, iron, bread toaster, vacuum cleaner, oil fryer) was determined. In the second phase a physical liberability test for each appliance using a rotary shear/shredder for crushing and a hammer shredder for milling was carried out. In the third phase the experimental separability tests using an air classifier and a shaking air table, as well as an eddy-current and an electrostatic separator were performed. In the present paper the results obtained using the air classifier and the electrostatic separator, are reported. To follow the life of a grain a new methodological procedure was elaborated. The particle size fractions after comminution were sorted into material fractions (copper, aluminium, plastics, etc.), then separated, and finally the recovery of the material components in the products were determined. Furthermore, the joint separability was investigated from two points of view: 1) for grain fractions and 2) for each waste appliance. Surface chemical factors, including the balance of hydrophobic (e.g. collectors) and hydrophilic (e.g. oxidation products, precipitates) species, are major control determinants in flotation rates of specific minerals and therefore grade and recovery. There are a number of challenges involved with the surface analysis of different mineral phases from process streams in a flotation facility. The first is to collect samples that are representative of the process and retain their surface chemistry prior to introduction into the instrument. The second challenge in studying the surface chemistry of specific minerals is to find reliable methods of mineral phase recognition. In surface analysis of mineral particles, confident mineral selection can be difficult with many multi-metal minerals and with precipitated, adsorbed, reacted and contaminant species in the outermost molecular layers. The third challenge is to provide a statistical surface analysis of multiple grains of the same mineral. Methods to achieve these aims are described. Principal component analysis (PCA) of ToF-SIMS data provides improvement in phase recognition, particle selection and associated variations in surface species. Specific examples from both lab and plant operations, demonstrate that this technique can be utilized to differentiate surface chemical factors promoting (hydrophobic species) or inhibiting (hydrophilic species) flotation. A study of copper ion transfer (inadvertent activation) from chalcopyrite to pyrite and sphalerite clearly identified a statistical difference in copper intensities between the sphalerite and pyrite phases corresponding to their flotation response. The PCA analysis applied to concentrate and tails samples collected from the Inco Matte Concentrator demonstrated extensive CuOH and NiOH transfer between chalcocite and heazlewoodite minerals. The statistical analysis has been able to identify mechanisms controlling recovery and selectivity. High intensity conditioning (HIC) tests in which sphalerite was separated from a complex sulfide ore gave a 5% increase in the overall Zn recovery. The PCA/ToF-SIMS statistical analysis revealed the discriminating depressant action of adherent aluminosilicate (gangue) fine particles and adsorbed ions on the surface of sphalerite grains. HIC conditioning resulted in the removal of these gangue fines improving surface collector attachment efficiency.

"Silver is currently lost as jarosite during the pressure oxidation of sulphides and cyanidation of the residues yields 5-10% of silver. Efforts to recover silver from complex sulphides, which contain economic fractions of silver require an understanding of the behaviour of acanthite during pressure oxidation. However, previous studies of acanthite (Ag2S) reaction have been complicated by the formation of argento-jarosite and uncertainties arise on the interpretation of the results.In this work, the acid pressure oxidation of high-grade natural silver sulphide mineral (acanthite) was carried out at 110-150°C and under the conditions similar to that of pressure oxidation of complex sulphide. The predominant product of reaction is elemental sulphur. The rate of reaction increases with increasing temperature and with the presence of ferric ions. The kinetics is controlled by chemical reaction with activation energy of 72.6 kJ/mol. The rate of reaction decreases with the presence of silver sulphate in the initial slurry. Yuanjiacun iron ore located in Shanxi province of China has finely disseminated grain size and contains refractory iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals such as chlorite. Therefore, a large amount of secondary slime (the content of -10µm fraction was up to 32.92%) was produced inevitably in fine grinding process, and chlorite was also enriched in concentrate from the content of 4.3% to 14.8% after high intensity magnetic separation. These two characteristics result in the difficulty to deal with Yuanjiacun iron ore by flotation. In this test work, contrast tests between single reverse flotation and selective flocculation desliming-reverse flotation were conducted on Yuanjiacun iron ore. The test results show that after selective flocculation desliming, the iron grade of cationic reverse flotation concentrate increases by 6.15% and the recovery increases by 7.25%; the iron grade of anionic reverse flotation concentrate also increases by 2.15%. Furthermore, analyses of grain size composition and mineral composition were carried out on separation products, the results indicate that selective flocculation desliming plays a dual role of optimizing grain size composition of flotation feed and removing iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals (chlorite) effectively.

"The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical and technology framework for designing new combined technologies for processing tailings containing non-ferrous and noble metals using dry separation. The main goals of the study were: identifying the distribution patterns of valuable components in various fractions in dry separation processes; examining the patterns identified for different types of non-ferrous and noble metal tailings; developing a theoretical and technology foundation for the development of innovative technologies for the efficient processing of tailings with minimal process water consumption. To examine the possibility of efficient recovery of valuable components from refractory tailings using dry separation, an experimental laboratory unit was designed and built, composed of novel or modified lab equipment: plasma unit for increasing the magnetic susceptibility of Fe - containing minerals; magnetic separator supporting isodynamic and polygradient fields; pneumatic separator for the dry separation of finely dispersed mineral mixtures; dielectric separator using the resonant frequency of the electric field. The laboratory unit supports various modifications and combinations of the lab equipment. The experimental studies led to the development of a unified process scheme for lab tests of mature and non-ferrous smelter tailings using dry separation methods.INTRODUCTION The huge amount of waste from mining and processing of mineral resources Russia inherited from the extensive use of mineral resources in the Soviet Union and amount of waste continue to grow. Often the content of valuable non - ferrous, rare and noble metals in waste exceeds the balance contents in natural ores of the developed deposits. "Multiphysics models are essentially first principles models capable of providing very accurate micro scale predictions. The computational requirements for Multiphysics Models are extensive, precluding their direct use for flowsheet simulations. Population balance models get their form from theory but the model parameters have to be provided from experiments. The prediction errors for the population balance models are typically significantly higher than those for the Multiphysics Models but the computational effort for Population Balance Models is typically much less than that for the Multiphysics models. The hybrid model described here takes advantage of the strengths of each of the two primary model types and minimizing the weaknesses of each. The Multiphysics Model is used to perform high accuracy "experiments" that are difficult or impossible to conduct in laboratories or plants. The results of these experiments are combined with standard laboratory or plant data to parameterize and further enhance the Population Balance portion of the hybrid model. The creation of a useful Hybrid Model is demonstrated for a MP1000 secondary crusher. The validation of the hybrid crusher model is also presented. Finally the use of the Hybrid Model is illustrated in a full comminution flowsheet simulator."

The process of bioleaching marmatite using moderately thermophilic bacteria has been studied in this research by comparing marmatite leaching performance of mesophilic bacteria and moderately thermophilic bacteria and valuating the effect of venting capacity on marmatite leaching performance of moderately thermophilic bacteria and the effect of pulp densities on marmatite leaching performance of moderately thermophilic bacteria. The results show that moderately thermophilic bacteria have more advantages over mesophilic bacteria in bioleaching marmatite. Aeration agitation can improve the transfer of O2 and CO2 in solution and promote the growth of bacteria and therefore, enhance the leaching efficiency. With the increase of pulp density, the total leaching amount of valuable metals increased, however, the extraction efficiency decreased due to many rea-sons, like increasing shear force that results in poorly growth condition for bacteria, etc.

Variability of the quality of phosphate ore feed to the flotation plant has been of great concern for the industry. This variability sometimes resulted in 10% to 50% decrease of P2O5 recovery, a reduction of P2O5 concentrate grade and/or both due to depression of the system. For this investigation, samples of refractory ore and easy-to-float ore were obtained from the same mining area in Central Florida; and then submitted to bench flotation tests using fatty acids (FA). To understand the cause of difference in flotation behavior of these apparently similar ores (grade, mineralogy, and physical appearance), bulk and surface characterization studies were conducted. Based on the results of characterization studies and bench flotation tests on both refractory and easy-to-float samples, it was possible to determine FA surface coverage. It was found that the surface coverage for the refractory ore was between 6.9% and 9.8%, corresponding to 0% and 80% recovery, respectively; whereas the easy-to-float ore showed surface coverage of 17.2% (89% recovery) to 24.6% (98% recovery). Since size analysis, surface area and pore size measurements showed small differences, it was thought that the surface coverage differences could be caused by the ad-sorption of natural compounds onto the phosphate ore surfaces, depressing the system. SEM, EDS, and Leaching and Solvent Extraction (LSX) studies were performed on the phosphate ores to demonstrate the proposed mechanism. This paper summarized our characterization studies, flotation results, and findings. The study showed that the new identified compounds were responsible for the flotation behaviors of the Florida refractory phosphate ores.

It is investigated systemically in this paper that the granularity of the precursor, ZnC2O4?2H2O, is influenced by synthetic conditions. Instantaneously adding of precipitation agent is able to control the mean size of precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O under 300nm, which has great function to obtain well-dispersed ZnO nanoparticles in the next step, pyrolysis. The pyrolysis kinetics model of ZnC2O4?2H2O powder is obtained. Two steps take place during the pyrolysis. The first is dehydration, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is 2(1-a)2/3(chemical reaction), A=8.3×108s-1, E=(75.82±3.00) KJ/mol. The second is formation of ZnO, which the pyrolysis kinetic model is (1-a) (random nucleation and latter growth), A=8.45×1028s-1, E=(360.54±12.00)KJ/mol. ZnO nanoparticles obtained by pyrolysis take on self-growth behavior. It is resulted that for precursor ZnC2O4?2H2O pyrolysis time takes obvious influence on the partilces size under 420?, 500? and 600?. Finally, a new flow sheet for synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles is investigated, in which blendes is used as raw material and hydrometallurgy is introduced into it. The whole flow sheet has no industrial wastes, that is all byproducts can be used in the flow sheet recycled, resulted in the de-crease of productive cost and industrial wastes.

Impeller speed and air flow rate are two influence parameters on coarse particles flotation and collision and attachment angles. So, in this research recovery of quartz particles at four diameter classes carried out and collision and attachment angles investigated. It is found that maximum flotation response was observed at Impeller speed of 1100 rpm and 15 L/h air flow rate. For either more quiescent (Impeller speed<1100 rpm) or more turbulent conditions, flotation recovery decreased steadily. Furthermore, amount of attachment probabilities is calculated using suitable equation. According to this study, with decreasing particle size, air flow rate and impeller speed, probability of attachment increased and with increasing contact angle, probability of attachment increased. For various air flow rates, impeller speed and particle size, collision angle has been calculated. Maximum collision angle obtained at with 15 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 256 µm and impeller speed of 700 rpm and minimum collision angle obtained at with 45 L/h air flow rate, particle size of 545µm and impeller speed of 1300 rpm. Three high-grade limestone ores (CaO content over than 53 %) with different geological origin have been characterized for the synthesis of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate. Limestone ores examined in this study showed different crystal particle size that cause difference in disintegration degree and surface area of the synthesized slaked limes. The limestone ore with smaller crystal particle size showed higher disintegration degree and also yielded slaked lime with smaller surface area, which is good for the synthesis of aragonite precipitated calcium carbonate. The synthesis of aragonite PCC using the limestone with a small crystal particle size was yielded needle-shaped aragonite with the aspect ratio of about 14. It is known that an addition of rigid particles into a fluid medium changes the flow field. Therefore, the rheological behavior of suspensions will be hardly Newtonian, such as their continuum phase. This phenomena was studied by Einstein in 1906 (Einstein, 1956) for the single case of spherical particles in a continuum liquid of a very dilute suspension. The final analysis applied for suspensions was derived from the evaluation of the behavior of ideal gases, finding a simple expression for the viscosity of the dispersion. All the following works about the hydrodynamics of suspensions at low and high solid contents was based in the Einstein´s model. For clay minerals suspensions where the physical and chemical properties of the particles are complex, it was found that the Einstein´s model is not a good approximation, even so for the most dilute dispersions. The present paper shows a new approximation that describes the non-Newtonian behavior of the suspensions of clays, and the attempt of understand how the different fine sizes, shapes and physico-chemical properties of clay particle surfaces give specific characteristics of plasticity, viscosity or visco elasticity to suspensions. Considering the main idea of the paper, namely that the interaction energy of reagents serves as a criterion used for their selection, as well as due to their insufficient study, the authors have therefore considered studying the aspects of computer modelling and molecular dynamics of largely used collectors for the flotation of nonferrous and precious metal ores. Three-dimensional molecular models for sulphydric reagents have been created, studying as well the distribution of the partial charges on their atoms. It has been shown that the value of the partial charge on the phosphorus atom in diethyldithiophosphinate and diethylmonothiophosphinate is high positive. The value of the partial charge of the sulphur atom is negative, strengthening its bond with the metal cations from the mineral surface. The molecular orbitals for the sulphydric reagents have been created determining as well the energy of their level. The computer modelling key parameters have therefore been defined. The new reagents have been tested for gold, copper and rhenium ore flotation. Gold recovery has increased with 4.2 - 4.7 %, copper recovery with 3.3 % and rhenium recovery with 15.5 %. A number of new flotation reagents have been recommended, such as: diethyldithiophosphate, (C2H5)2NCH2CH2OC(S)SNa, (C4H9NH)2P (S)SNa and also (C2H5)2P(S)ONa and (C2H5)2 P(O)S Na. "Heap leaching is well-established as a relatively low-cost and low-energy method of extracting metals from low grade ores. However, the design methodology, attention to the engineering details during heap construction and the long time scale in metal recovery makes the process susceptible to significant variation in the success of a heap leach operation. Often the laboratory predicted recovery rates are not achieved on site due to poor understanding of the complex physics of flow and coupled solid-liquid-thermal reactions within the multi-dimensional heterogeneous ore body. Given the large scale of commercial operations, small changes in metal recovery can substantially change the operating profitability. While there are a variety of approaches to heap leach modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling coupled with leach kinetic models offers a methodology to describe and understand the complexities of heap leaching. The CFD model uses leach kinetics specific for the mineralogy of the ore, including gangue chemistry, and provides an energy balance to calculate and predict temperature. Coupled with the CFD model’s inherent capability for modeling complex fluid flow, the physics and the chemistry of the heap can be simulated. This provides a tool for engineering design, as well as forecasting heap production under different scenarios. The calibrated model is used to simulate a three-dimensional test heap under fluctuating meteorological data, such as precipitation events, periodic solution application, and notably temperature. These simulations provide support for a methodology to design and engineer heap leaching of low grade copper sulfide ore. INTRODUCTION Worldwide copper ore reserves are faced with decreasing head grades with copper sulfides, particularly chalcopyrite being the predominant mineralogy (Nesse, 2000). Heap leaching offers an economical way to recover copper from low grade ore. The ore is stacked and a leach solution is applied and allowed to trickle though the porous bed of ore to extract target metals. The heap can be built with run of mine material or crushed ore and is constructed in order to achieve percolation of the leach solution to all regions. Bartlett (1998) provides an authoritative overview of the solution mining process where the leach solution interacts with the solid, the lixiviant dissolves the target minerals from the solid into the solution, and the dissolved species are transported out of the heap for subsequent recovery. Petersen (2016) provides a recent review of heap leach technology and emerging and potential future applications, and Ghorbani et al. (2016) summarizes the current state and challenges of the technology. Early applications of heap leaching offered a low cost technique to achieve high recoveries from oxide ores, typically greater than 70% depending upon the kinetics of reaction. As world copper resources transition to mainly copper sulfide mineralogy, such as chalcopyrite based ores, achieving high recovery from these copper sulfide deposits is proving more difficult due to the complexity of the leach kinetics, which leads to low leaching efficiency."

Arsenic bearing copper-gold ores deposit have been found in most areas of China, especially in southwest. Due to the very closed association between arsenic, copper and gold, conventional flotation and cyanide leaching process may not give positive results. An arsenic bearing copper-gold ore in Sichuan province ,with gold grade of 10.12 g/t, 0.6% Cu and 0.14% As, is characterized by superfine grains with -40 microns fraction accounting for 70.9% and the gold enwrapped mainly by pyrite and tennanite accounts for 34.31%. Arsenic in this ore occurs in isomorphism, deposited in tetrahedrite. The ore was processed primarily in two stage flotation to get copper bearing gold concentrate and pyrite bearing gold concentrate respectively, and sequentially processed by leaching. Under the pressure of 300 KPa and 110~115 ?, the copper-gold concentrate was leached by an oxidizing and catalyzing leach agent then copper and gold were separated from each other in leach solution. The pyrite bearing gold concentrate was processed by cyanide leaching with the leach residue as sulfur product. The test results showed that copper recovery was up to 88.89%, gold recovery up to 89.18% and sulfur recovery up to 92.64%.

Extensive exploration for uranium metal by the Department of Atomic Energy in India led to the discovery of new carbonate host rock uranium deposits Tummalapalle and Gogi, which are located in southern part of India. Alkaline leaching at elevated temperature and pressure using autoclave is the central unit process in the overall strategy for extraction of uranium from these new ore deposits. Autoclave leaching is affected largely by intrinsic nature of the ore and by the process variables and the equipment settings. In order to understand such a complex process and also to be able to predict the process performance under randomly (ore grade, uranium mineralogy, gangue mineralogy etc.) and consciously perturbed variable settings (partial pressure of oxygen, temperature, concentration of leachant, stirring speed and time), sound and robust mathematical models are needed with analytical and/or numerical solutions. Present investigation attempts to develop a variant of kinetic correlation based on shrinking core model for batch alkaline leaching process in an autoclave. The leaching model incorporates particle size distribution according to popular Gates-Gaudin-Schuhmann equation, rather than assuming a single mean size for all the particles participating in the leaching reaction. Kinetic experimental data generated in autoclave leaching of Gogi uranium ore was used to evaluate various constants of the model developed. The ore sample used for experiments assayed 0.21 per cent U3O8. The partial pressure of oxygen was varied between 0.15 to 6.5 atm, temperature from 343 K to 438 K, concentration of sodium carbonate leachant in the range 0.47 g mol/L to 0.94 g mol/L, and the stirring speed from 573 rev/min to 900 rev/min in the experiments. The goodness of fit of the leaching process model is found to be >0.95. Morphological studies carried out on leached and unleached particulate matter using Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X ray analyses are included in the present study.

The extraction of nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) from the laterite deposit of Ramu nickel-cobalt Project in Papua New Guinea was performed in this study. Chemical analysis by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-AES) atomic emission spectrometer, SPS-3000 (Seiko Instruments (Inc.), shows the ore contains 48% Fe, 1% Ni, 0.1% Co, 1.8% Al, 0.14% Mg, and 0.8% Mn. Characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of the laterite ore obtained from the mine site shows the ore contains 70 to 80% goethite (FeOOH), assuming Fe content of 48% is mainly from geothite. The main leaching parameters investigated include; slurry temperature, leaching time and sulphuric acid (H2SO4) concentration to evaluate nickel and cobalt extraction. For all experiments, 10g batch samples are put into 300 ml beaker containing 100 ml of sulphuric acid of varying concentrations (1M, 2M, 4M). During the leaching period, 5 ml slurry samples are withdrawn at different times and filtered to obtain filtrate for ICP analysis to monitor nickel and cobalt extraction. Solid samples at the end of all tests are also obtained by filtration and after drying, XRD and ICP tests are performed to monitor nickel and cobalt contents. According to the test results performed at normal atmospheric pressure, over 99% of nickel and over 50% cobalt were extracted into solution within 120 min at 95ºC in 2M H2SO4 solution. Similar results were obtained when only temperature was reduced to 90ºC, but cobalt extraction increased to over 70% when leaching time was increased to 240 min. Further reduction in temperature to 80 and 60ºC resulted in reduction of nickel and cobalt extraction. At the end of each leaching test, magnetite was seen to attach to magnetic stirrer. The study showed nickel can be completely leached into solution but cobalt only up to 70%. Keywords: atmospheric pressure, sulphuric acid leaching, nickel laterite
