The experiment adopted magnetic separation-priority flotation (first to float copper,then float lead) combined technology to deal with a complex Cu,Pb ,Zn multi-metals ore which has high sulphur content, difficult to separate Cu, Pb ,Zn minerals from sulphur and separate Cu from Pb. Floatable pyrrhotite was separated through magnetic separation which could eliminate the adverse effect on the flotation followed up. And then adopting the priority flotation process to recover the Cu, Pb ,Zn from the magnetic tailings. In priority, flotation Cu, BP(a kind of ethionine ester collector ) and ethyl xanthogenate were used as the collector, LD-1 and sodium sulphite were used as the depressant.The depressants combined with humic acid sodium and lime were used for chalcopyrite ? pyrite separation to further improve the copper concentrate grade. Considering the raw ore that contain 0.32% copper, 0.54% lead and 25.54% sulfur. The copper concentrate grade is 23.61%. The lead content of copper concentrate is only 0.85% . The recovery of copper is 75.03%,and the lead concentrate grade is 54.58%, the copper content of lead concentrate is only 0.81% and the recovery of lead concentrate is 62.24%. The mineral processing indexes were excellent, finally realizing the high effective separation of Cu, Pb , Zn and pyrite. This technique provides a new approach to highly utilize complex copper-lead-zinc ore.

"Developed countries are in the midst of re-structuring education in minerals-related disciplines as raw materials, once vital to wealth generation, contribute progressively less to the economy. The changing circumstances mean institutions must justify mineral processing by new criteria. After considering what a mineral processor needs to know the ways to deliver are considered. Taking twenty graduates per year to illustrate, one institute could justify this number as a program in a department or school (of whatever grouping of disciplines). A strong research component would make the package additionally attractive. Divide among four institutions and mineral processing is best served in a research centre with delivery taking advantage of multi-centre and distance learning opportunities.INTRODUCTIONThis is one of five plenary lectures at the Congress. I may have preferred a technical subject, as that is what occupies most of my thinking hours, but it is reasonable as an academic that this topic should come to one of us. The fact the topic has not been high on my agenda may provide one advantage: that I can suggest directions free of pre-conceived notions, just as when reviewing the background to a technical article the temptation to select in support of one?s interpretations is resisted. The trick will be to add something new.One reading of the title seems to query whether mineral processing education has a future. (I will refrain at this juncture from defining mineral processing and assume for now we share an understanding of the term.) The proximity of natural and human resources led to the Industrial Revolution and the interaction continues to stimulate and sustain industrial and economic development in many parts of the world. The search for raw materials has historically played a key role in opening frontier areas, with undersea and outer space next. The reason is obvious: raw materials along with food and energy underpin society. Thus mining will remain part of human activity along with the need to pass on the knowledge and skills.What happens over time is resource relocation. Raw materials become exhausted in one area to be replaced by sources elsewhere; the demand for some materials lessens while growing for others. Educational institutions can find themselves with the wrong geography or with staff focussing on the wrong subjects. When this happens the restructuring produces much discussion. This is where we are in parts of the world. Japan, Western Europe and the United States are the prominent examples (Dowd, 1998; Flemings and Suresh, 2001; McDivitt, 2002). Mineral processing is becoming a series of courses in related disciplines: resource engineering, environment engineering or materials engineering. The start of the transition is evident in Canada and Australia, perhaps earlier than expected given the contribution of raw materials to their economies. A common backdrop in the developed countries is social pressure to reduce the impact of the ?untidy? aspects of life, and that includes mining. (This is not new: in classical times the mine face was the preserve of slaves and convicts.) These values are exportable, potentially affecting recruitment into mining schools everywhere."

The results of development of new collecting reagents selectively interacting with the metals of platinum group (MPG) are presented. A new approach to the concentration of the platinum minerals from the fine grade platinum containing products with the use of cloud point polymers for the first time proposed for this purpose is discussed. An original method for the investigation of complexing reagents with the platinum under flotation conditions developed by authors is described. The influence of the complexing reagents on the xanthate adsorption and on the electrochemical properties of the platinum arsenide surface (sperrylite) as well with the interaction mechanism between the reagent and metallic platinum were investigated by means of the modern physical and physicochemical methods of the solid and fluid phase studies. The results of tests of some complexing reagents with the rich copper-nickel ore in the cycle of nickel-pyrrhotite flotation are given. The data obtained makes it possible to mark the complexing reagent containing phosphine group as the most effective additional collector for MPG. Cloud point polymers containing thioamide, aminosulphide, and phosphine functional groups were examined. It is shown that all the reagents tested increase the platinum and palladium extraction to the nickel-pyrrhotite concentrate without quality loss. Platinum containing particles flocculate selectively.

This paper aims to study the influence and action mechanism of collector Y-89 on the flotation of auriferous pyrite. The measurement to identify adsorption quantity, IR and XPS spectrum analysis and flotation experiment made on the pure mineral were conducted. The research results show that when the dosage of MIBC is 20 mg/L, and pH of 8, the dosage of Y-89 over 60 mg/L, the pyrite recovery rate is greater than 80%.And when the dosage of Y-89is 60 mg/L, dosage of MIBC 20 mg/L, the pH in a wider range (pH=4~9), the recovery is greater than 75%. When the pH is above 10, the pyrite is depressed and its recovery rate is found to be dramatically dropping. Adsorption quantity measurement also shows that the strong alkaline conditions inhibit the adsorption of Y-89 on the surface of auriferous pyrite. IR measurement indicates that chemisorption of Y-89 occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite. XPS spectrum analysis indicates that without adding Y-89, oxidation reaction occurs on the surface of pyrite. But when Y-89 is added, the chemical environment of Fe on the surface of pyrite has changed. Such findings indicate that with Y-89, chemisorption occurs on the surface of auriferous pyrite.

Flotation of halite?new, recently begun to be developed method of processing water-soluble minerals. In the paper the results of studies of the new directions of the application of halite flotation are represented. Studies on the flotation separation of halite and sylvite in the salt solutions of different composition, showed the possibility of the halite flotation realization not only in the carnallite brine (content of salts: MgCl2 25.5% ~ 26.0 %, chlorides of potassium and sodium 5.5% ~ 6.0%), but in the sylvinite brine, which contains 10.5% ~ 10.8% KCl and 20.5% ~ 21% NaCl. On the basis obtained results are carried out experiences on the halite flotation from samples of the converted products of sylvinite ores by flotation method and by the method of the electrostatic separation. It is shown that in all cases it is possible to accomplish effective and selective recovery of halite. The halite recovery into the foam product of flotation makes 80% ~ 90% with an increase in the content of KCl in the cell product of flotation in comparison with a composition of flotation feed: - from the product after the electrostatic separation of ore ? from 76% KCl to 95% ~ 97% KCl; - from the small fraction of ore (- 0.25 + 0 mm) ? from 30% KCl to 60% ~ 64% KCl; - from middlings (intermediate products) of sylvite flotation from 16% ~ 31% KCl to 45% ~ 80% KCl. An increase in the molecular weight of alkylmorpholines increases the selectivity of the flotation separation of halite and sylvite. Halite recovery from small size fraction of ore or/and middling of sylvite flotation with the sub-sequent joint filtration halite product and tails of sylvite flotation allows to reduce considerably expenses for manufacture potash chloride from Pilot-industrial tests for the first time confirmed the possibility of the effective halite flotation in the saturated solutions of chlorides of potassium and sodium (sylvinite brine).

"During the flotation process of ilmenite and titanaugite with fatty acid as collector, unavoidable ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Al3+, Fe3+ and Fe2+ demonstrate considerable influence on the floatability of the minerals. In this study, flotation test, zeta potential test, and solution chemistry calculation were adopted to investigate the mechanism of how these metal ions affect the floatability of ilmenite and titanaugite in different pH conditions. The results show that in weak acidic solution, Ca2+ and Mg2+ mainly freely exist in the solution with little adsorption on mineral surface, and their reaction ability with oleate ions is weaker than active site on ilmenite surface (Fe), thus they show negligible effect on the flotation of ilmenite; Al3+ shows similar reaction ability with oleate ion compared to Fe3+, which lead to competitive reaction with collector, so the flotation of ilmenite is depressed. While Fe3+ can adsorb on surface of titanaugite in the form of Fe(OH)3, and it shows stronger reaction ability with oleate ion compared with active site on titanaugite surface (Ca and Mg), which proves an activation effect on titanaugite flotation. In alkaline solution, all these five kinds of ions can adsorb on titanaugite surface, and the floatability of titanaugite will be activation. Based on the above analysis, it can be deduced that in the flotation system using fatty acid as collector, the adsorption of metal ions on mineral surfaces and the stronger reaction ability with collector than active site on mineral surfaces, are the two prerequisites for metal ions show activation effect on mineral flotation.INTRODUCTIONIn flotation pulp, the existence of metal ions is often inevitable. There are two sources for these metal ions: the first part is generated in grinding and flotation process due to the oxidation, reduction, corrosion or dissolution of minerals or grinding medium; the second part is from the flotation water or the addition because of the technology need. The metal ions in the pulp have a considerable influence on mineral flotation. Earlier researches are focus on the activation effect of mineral floatation by metal ions to obtain a higher flotation efficiency, many effective activators were found, such as Cu2+ activated sphalerite, Pb2+ activation wolframite, and Ca2+ activation quartz flotation, these metal ions have become the commonly used activators in industrial production. And many studies attempted to explain the mechanism of how metal ions affect the floatability of minerals. James (James et al, 1972) suggests that metal hydroxide precipitation is the main component leads to activation effect, while the study of Fuerstenau (Fuerstenau, 1976) showed that the metal ion hydroxyl complexes played significant role. In recent years, the reuse of mineral processing wastewater has attracted more attention (Rao et al, 1989; Liu et al, 2013; Wang et al, 2014), as a main component in flotation wastewater, the influence of “unavoidable ions” on flotation process still need in-depth study."

Aluminum is produced by the Hall-Héroult process, which involves passing a current through a molten mixture of alumina dissolved in cryolite (Na3AlF6) to reduce the alumina to aluminum. This process occurs in an electrolytic cell comprising a steel shell lined with a carbon cathode and refractory bricks. After a certain period of operation, the carbon cathode deteriorates and is removed from the cell along with the refractory bricks. These removed materials are referred to as spent pot lining or ?SPL?. Typically, 30 Kg of SPL waste is generated for every ton of Aluminum produced. Globally aluminum smelters produce more than 500,000 tons of SPL each year. Even though SPL has a high fuel value (8000 to 9000 BTU/lb) and contains valuable metals, it is classified as a hazardous material due to its cyanide content and leachable fluorides. Various disposal/recycle techniques have been developed over the years for SPL but none of them is satisfactory. Thus, large quantities of SPL are still being dumped in landfills. In some countries, even the land filling of SPL is not permitted. The safe disposal of SPL thus remains a challenging problem to the aluminum industry and the search continues to find methods of converting SPL into a non-hazardous waste and/or recovering the valuable materials contained in the SPL. We have developed a process to produce hydraulic setting cements (eco-cement) containing a novel fluoride rich cementitious phase, from SPL by an energy efficient, low temperature clinkering route. A raw mix blend of SPL, lime/limestone, calcium sulfate and tailings sands based on a set of design criteria developed by us, is clinkered in a two stage process; 2 hours soak at 800 °C followed by clinkering at 1000 °C for another 2 hours, to produce a soft clinker. The SPL eco-cement is made by grinding the clinker to a fineness of 5000 cm2/g Blaine with 1% by weight borax as a set retarder. A good quality cement having as high as 20 % by weight of SPL in the raw mix (28 % by weight in the cement clinker) is thus produced. The physical properties of the SPL cements are found to be comparable to the Indian standard (IS) specifications for Ordinary Portland Cements (OPC). We have produced the cement in a few Kg batches and tested the reproducibility of results from batch to batch for further scale up. This paper presents gold occurrence investigations on the altered rock gold deposit from Jiaodong area of China, and comparisons of gold occurrence in the ore samples from different mining levels. According to the results, the chemical and mineral compositions of raw materials from different mining levels are quite similar. However, the relative content and grain size of gold minerals are quite different between the two mining levels of -130m~-340m and -550m~-650m. In the ore of upper mining levels of -130m~-340m, electrum is the dominant gold mineral and accounts for about 80% of the total gold minerals, while native gold is minor and accounts for about 20%. As for the ore of deep mining levels of -550m~-650m, the major gold mineral shifts to native gold which accounts for 67%, while the ratio of electrum drops to about 33%. Coarser gold grain size was observed in the upper mining level ore with a mean size of 33.05µm while the gold grain size was much finer in the ore of deep mining levels with a mean size of 22.85µm. Furthermore, the gold mineral associations also show different patterns between the upper mining level samples and the deep mining level samples. Of the three observed gold association types such as inclusion gold, fissure gold and interparticle gold, more inclusion gold was found in the ore of deep mining levels. The inclusion gold accounts for 62% in the ore of deep mining levels, while that in the ore of upper mining levels accounts for about 56%. Further study revealed that the dominant gold associated minerals are pyrite and sulphides and only a small amount of gold is associated with quartz and silicates. It was shown that the altered rock gold ore from Jiaodong area can be regarded as a free milling gold ore, but the processing parameters should be optimized for the ores in different mining levels according to the different gold occurrence. In addition, it was predicted that enhanced gold liberation is necessary for the ore in deep mining levels.

The biggest chromium mineral processing plant in Albania is Bulqiza plant. It has been in operation for more than 20 years, treating low-grade chromium ores grade 20 ? 26 % Cr2O3 and producing chromium concentrates grade 48 ? 50 % Cr2O3. About 2 million tons of tailings with 13 % Cr2O3 content are stocked in a dam close to the plant. Mineral processing of low-grade chromium ores with less than 16% Cr2O3 content is unprofitable because the mining expenses are high comparing with the current market prices of chromium concentrate. Recycle and enrichment of existing tailings is profitable, because there are no underground mining expenses in this case and because that this kind of raw material does not need expenses operation of crushing and grinding. The existing plant is in operation for more than 8 years treating existing tailings as raw material. Grade of concentrate in the value 40 % Cr2O3 and Cr2O3 recovery in the value 30-35% in the plant are considered low. The main reason of low concentrate grade and recovery is high content of particles under 100 microns, the slimes, in raw material. In the paper is described the study carried out to improve enrichment of the tailings, as well as analyses of existing process, raw material and products. It is concluded that majority of lost is present in the slimes which are not separated in existing spiral separators and shaking tables. Basing in the study is composed the new flow sheet of recycling and concentration of the tailings to produce chromium concentrate grade 41 ? 42 % Cr2O3 and recovery 60 %, decreasing in this way the concentrate production cost two times. In the paper are presented the tests and results of concentration of particle size fraction under 100 microns, using gravimetric, magnetic and flotation methods, as well as equipment and machines suitable for slimes treatment and concentration.

"In the most iron ore beneficiation plants, reverse flotation is the best method for removing silicate gangues from final iron ore concentrate. Many previous studies show, if the major portion of impurities include quartz minerals, the flotation process is simple, but if iron silicates are dominant, reverse flotation is so complicated and mostly not very effective. In this study which was performed on the Sangan iron ore concentrate, the performance using of reverse flotation and magnetic flotation separator for elimination of silicate gangues from the magnetic iron concentrate was investigated. The operational parameters for reverse flotation are considered as: collector and frother types and dosages and also modifiers. But for magnetic flotation separator parameters were magnetic field intensity as well as overflow and underflow water rates. Results showed that reverse flotation has not a significant effect on the elimination of impurities. Because of the silicate gangues of Sangan concentrate including a mixture of quartz and iron silicates (amphibole, pyroxene and feldspar), so downgrading of the SiO2 content for the flotation concentrate was rather low and only average reduces of 20.60% were possible. But the findings of using magnetic separator was more satisfactory. Results of the weight recovery, iron grade and also SiO2 and S grades of final concentrate were better with magnetic flotation device. So at the best and optimum condition, we could reduce 51.01% of the total silicate (SiO2~ 2.19%) along with 74.66% of sulfur content (S~ 0.076%) and concentrate weight and Fe recoveries of 92.04% and 94.51% respectively, final Fe grade of 68.73%.INTRODUCTION Chemical/traditional flotation is one of the most effective methods for separating valuable particles from waste minerals, which is used in most mineral processing industries. In the iron ore processing industry, the major impurities present in iron ore concentrate include sulfur, silica and phosphorus (Bruckard et al, 2015), which are often carried out by reverse flotation methods for the removal of sulfide and oxide impurities (Donald, 1967: Araujo et al., 2005: Ma, 2012)"

India is the 5th largest producer of steel in the world and is slated to produce more than 180 Mt by 2020. Expectedly about 50 % of this would be through the Blast furnace route and the rest through Sponge iron / DRI route. Considering that there will not be any major change in iron making technology by that time, the Blast operation would require lump ore (10-40mm) with around 64% Fe grade and sinter fines (<10mm) with 60% Fe (min) as its feed. DRI process would need calibrated ore of size 5-18 mm as the most suitable size of feed. It is also expected that of the total requirement of ore for the DRI route a significant part would be DRI pellets. In India, there is considerable debate going on regarding the technology to be adopted for the processing of iron ore and there is a lack of clear consensus. The above scenario indicates that the processing requirement of iron ore in the country would involve both washing technology as well as beneficiation technology. CDE Asia Ltd is in the forefront of iron ore processing in the country and the experience gained by the company over the last few years of functioning has led the company to believe that route to be adopted depends on the end product requirement and the starting grade of the feed. Keeping in mind the nature of the feed required for the Blast furnace & DRI operation; it is obvious that good washing technology would be highly beneficial to the iron ore industry. Depending on the grade of ore available the limits of washing will be decided and equipment for lump ore beneficiation such as jigs could be incorporated into the washing circuit. Scrubbing of ore either before washing or selectively scrubbing the lumps could be necessary. Very low grade ore and jig rejects would be required to be totally ground and beneficiated for the production of pellet feed in order to utilize the iron ore resources entirely. Another source of ore for pelletisation would be slimes generated from the washing process as well as the huge quantities already available in the tailings dams in the operating mines. Deslimimg and magnetic route of beneficiation could release at 30-40% of the Fe locked up in these tailings ponds/dams. The paper describes the concept with examples from operating plants and proposes how the adoption could be engineered through test work and proper plan of integration. A complex polymetallic sulfide ore in Yunnan, China, has various valuable minerals, which are Chalcopyrite, Galena, Pyrite, Gold, Silver, and Magnetite. A reasonable new flowsheet with a bulk flotation and a flotation separation of sulfide minerals that are Chalcopyrite, Galena, and Pyrite was carried out at first stage. After that tailings were treated by low intensity magnetic separation to achieve magnetite concentrate. A high Pb concentrate assaying 60.00 percent Pb at total recovery of 75.71 percent with 40.50 g/t Au and 1390.00 g/t Ag, a final high Cu concentrate assaying 24.45 percent Cu at high recovery of 92.03 percent and a magnetite concentrate assaying 60.78 percent Fe at recovery of 33.61 percent with 18.45g/t Au and 234.99 g/t Ag, are obtained. The total recovery of Gold and Silver in Pb concentrate and Cu concentrate reached 71.63 percent and 67.32 percent, respectively. It is shown, that this new flowsheet could realize efficient recovery for all of the valuable minerals in the ore and is easy to be industrialized. "Banded iron formations are the major iron source for producing high grade concentrate. BIF are generally lower grade and more difficult to extract. In order to know how best to process BIF ore, it require comprehensive knowledge on ore bodies even in the early stages of the mining process. Geometallurgy combines geological and mineral processing information and allows for higher flexibility in response to changes in the plant feed when mining different parts of the ore. This can lead to economic benefits, owing to improved plant operation, yet is time consuming and correspondingly costly. The main focus of this paper work has been to develop a comprehensive geometallurgical testing framework for developing Yogi BIF low grade magnetite deposit located at Western Australia. In order to provide successful geometallurgical mapping, was collected data from several different disciplines (geology, chemistry, mineralogy) and parameters (physical properties, metallurgical response and geotechnical measurements) during drilling activities and test work. The investigation shown magnetic separation behavior of material had high variation and is most important element in the proper design of ore beneficiation plant. This paper provides an improved and efficient magnetic separation test methods used for the investigation of separation behavior and variability of the Yogi Ore deposit and evaluates their applicability and potential in the geometallurgical context. In this paper a small-scale magnetic separation has been developed that allows estimating from single pass separation test using small amounts of sample material. Verification of the evaluation method and validation was done with different mineral systems."

"A new PVM vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator authorized by China Invention Patent ZL201110294866.4, which featured with vertical magnetic field structure was developed to dramatically save energy consumption and running costs compared with electromagnetic separators. The specific magnetic circuit design ensures PVM separator generating high magnetic field intensity as well as solving equipment large-scaling. The newly developed industrial PVM separator has been proved suitable for recovery of weak magnetic minerals or purification of non-metallic minerals benefiting from its high background and induction magnetic field intensity up to 0.8/1.5T, stable service performance and low running costs. The first ?1.5mm PVM separator has been applied in removing iron from quartz sand in Fengyang, Anhui, and ?2mm PVM separator will be installed to separate hematite. Industrial applications and tests proved that PVM separators could gain similar separation effects and especially save more than 80% of power consumption compared with the conventional electromagnetic high-gradient high-intensity magnetic separator, which will contribute a lot for energy conservation and environmental protection. The development of high gradient magnetic separator technology has played an important role in utilizing weak magnetic minerals, which has been widely used in many mining enterprises. The main forms of high-gradient magnetic separators include both of electromagnetic high-gradient and permanent magnetic high-gradient. The vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator features with high magnetic field gradient, large processing capacity and never clogging, which has been widely used in recovering fine weak magnetic mineral and purification of non-metallic minerals[1-3]. However, electromagnetic coils excitation needs more energy consumption, and relatively high running costs and maintenance costs as a result of the complicated cooling system. So permanent magnetization of the electromagnetic magnetic separation equipment is a very important research direction at present. With the continuous improvement of resource utilization standard and efficiency requirements, high energy consumption of the electromagnetic vertical ring magnetic separator have been highlighted, which has affected the economic benefits of mining enterprises to a certain extent. In the aspect of high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separation equipment, considerable researches have been carried out at home and abroad and many small-sized prototypes were developed yet never strode into large-scale industry applications[4-6]."

The mining industry is known to be a potential major contributor to the industrial development of any economy. Large-scale mining has been going on in Zambia for the last 100 years. The impact of mining in Zambia has been to create a development corridor along the line of rail to the Copperbelt Province, where hitherto, mining was concentrated, and then to develop a large consolidated high-density economic zone covering an area of about 72 km by 60km. This area is home to a number of very large integrated copper/cobalt mining complexes. The mining zone has expanded to the Northwestern Province in the last 10 years, where the largest copper mine in Africa now exists, having produced about 300 000 tonnes of copper in 2011. The total output of the Zambian mining industry is now about 820 000 tonnes per annum with projections of reaching 1.5 million by 2015, due to new Greenfield investments expected to come online by then. These new mining industry developments have come on the back of strong and sustained high base metal prices, in the last 10 years or so, due to demand mainly from China and India. This new lease of life has increased the contribution of the sector to the national treasury. The mining industry in Zambia has undergone a very important ownership restructuring with the sale of the previously Government owned parastatal, Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines (ZCCM) which dominated the sector, to allow for private sector participation. The privatization process lasted from about 1995 to about 2002. The recent growth of the mining sector has unfortunately not been matched by an adequate supply of skilled manpower for various reasons. These include: (i) A lack of strong in-house training strategies by the new mine owners (ii) Decrease in industry support to the training institutions (iii) The demise of and restructuring of ZCCM which has consequently limited the Government human resources planning tools for the mining sector (iv) The cyclic nature for the fortunes of the sector has lead to fluctuating interest of student recruitment into training institutions (v) Limitations, both staff and equipment, in the training institutions (vi) A re-structuring of the training institutions This paper examines the current status, and student output from tertiary training institutions for the mining sector in Zambia. This is then compared to the skilled labour demands of the sector. The various cause and effect issues are considered and a proposal on how this skills gap could be addressed sustainably is proposed. In this paper, two types of low-grade complex zinc oxide ores (sandstone and limestone ores) from Yunnan province, China were investigated. A large number of argillaceous and alkaline gangue makes it infeasible to treat the ores with heap leaching. Although wet metallurgy can be considered, the lower efficiency of liquid-solid separation, the high cost, and low revenue limit this technology to be put into practice in large-scale. In order to solve this problem, a new technology combining mineral processing method with metallurgy technique is studied to process this refractory ore that consists of sandstone ore with 5.84 per centZn and limestone ore with 6.50 per centZn. The results of the tests showed that zinc can effectively be recovered from two types of the ores by using the new technology, and the acid consumption can be remarkably reduced. For sandstone sample, 82.96 per cent Zn was recovered by flotation and final Zn recovery by flotation+ hydro-metallurgy can be up to 78.17 per cent from the ore. In addition, for sandstone, acid consumption can be reduced from 270kg/t by direct acid, leaching to 76.92kg/t by flotation + hydrometallurgy combination. For limestone sample, 85.90 per centZn was recovered by flotation and totally 80.95 per cent Zn can be recovered by new technology which is a combination of mineral processing and metallurgy. Besides, H2SO4 consumption can be reduced from 450kg/t for sandstone originally to113.79kg/t after using new technology. One merit of this new process technology is that the zinc sulfides and oxides can be recovered without desliming in the flotation cells at the different stage and make sure the concentrate products as a good feed for hydrometallurgical technology. This study provided pretty good technical support for tapping low-grade refractory zinc oxide ores. "The paper presents the results of research on the development of gold and silver extraction technology from refractory gold sulphide flotation concentrate of one deposits of Nord-East of Russia. The concentrate is due to the complex mineral composition. Gold and silver are finely disseminated in sulphide minerals (arsenopyrite and pyrite partially oxidized by 7-11%). These are characterized by high content of silver 219 g/t and sulphide sulfur 32%, the presence of poorly soluble silver minerals (silver sulfosalts, fahlore, finely dispersed hypergenic acanthite in iron hydroxides and jarosite, etc.), and impurity minerals capable of interacting with cyanide (pyrrhotite, marcasite, nonferrous sulphides) and causing higher than normal cyanide consumption. Pretreatment of refractory sulphide concentrate by biooxidation using a mixed association of mesophilic and moderately thermophilic bacteria at a temperature of 36-40 °C for 120 hours oxidized arsenopyrite by 97.5%, pyrite by 93.5%, unlocked refractory gold, and generally oxidized the minerals absorbing cyanide and oxygen before cyanidation. Further oxidation of these minerals-absorbents was facilitated by the aeration in calcareous medium of the solid biooxidation residues of the concentrate. Sorption cyanidation of the solid biooxidation residues with addition of lead (II) of recovered 91.2% of gold and 82.9% silver from biooxidation residue, compared with 80.1% and 46.6%, respectively, for sorption cyanidation without the preceding biooxidation step. Biooxidation of the concentrate prior to cyanidation improves the recovery of precious metals, especially silver, and significantly reduces cyanide consumption from 18.7 kg/t to 3-5 kg/t of concentrate. INTRODUCTION Biooxidation of gold sulphide concentrates using acidophilic microorganisms has been successfully applied worldwide (van Aswegen et al., 2007; Gericke et al., 2009; Sovmen et al., 2007; Sovmen et al., 2009). At least 15 full-scale plants for tank biooxidation of sulphide concentrates are presently in operation, and the construction of new ones is planned (Bulaev et al, 2015)."

In recent years many creative technologies are applied to SLon vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators. SLon-2500 and SLon-3000 vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators are created towards larger scale. Through optimizing the magnetic system and lowering the electric current density, their energy consumption is obviously dropped. New magnetic matrixes are developed to raise the beneficial efficiency of valuable minerals. Special SLon vertical ring and pulsating high gradient magnetic separators are developed which can treat coarser particles of 0-5 mm. Through these technology creations, the mineral processing efficiency of SLon magnetic separators is further raised and their processing cost dropped. Therefore, they have been found wider applications. SLon-2500 applied in Essar Steel of India. In 2007, Essar Steel did a test on its Kirandul hematite ore with SLon magnetic separator and got very good results. The feed grade is 59.77%Fe, after SLon one roughing and one scavenging, the total iron concentrate grade is 65.00%Fe and iron recovery 93.86%. In 2008-2010, the company bought 10 SLon-2500 magnetic separators to treat such iron ores. In 2010 the first SLon-3000 was applied to processing ilmenite. The magnetite-ilmenite deposit is located in Pan Zhi Hua, Si Chuan Province of China. The ore processing flow sheet is: Drum low intensity magnetic separator is used to take out magnetite, and then the SLon-3000 is used to recover ilmenite for roughing. The mags of the SLon-3000 are further cleaned by flotation. The SLon-3000 average operational results are: feed grade 9.52%TiO2, mags grade 17.43%TiO2, mags mass ratio 41.01%, TiO2 recovery 75.09%, non-mags grade 4.02% TiO2, non-mags mass ratio 58.99%. SLon magnetic separators Applied to treat 0-5mm limonite: The feed of SLon magnetic separator is usually 0-2 mm which needs to be ground by ball mill. As many Chinese iron ores are poor grades, if we can throw part of tails before grinding, the grinding cost will be greatly reduced. In 2010, a SLon-1500 and a SLon-2000 were specially built to treat 0-5 mm limonite. The feed grade is 26.51%Fe, mags grade 53.20%Fe, iron recovery 64.26, and tails grade 13.66% Fe. SLon-2500 applied to purify quartz. In 2009, a SLon-2500 magnetic separator was applied to purify quartz in Shan Xi province. Its feed is 0-1mm quartz which contains 0.15%-0.25%Fe2O3, the designed non-mags grade need to be less 0.08% Fe2O3. The production results of SLon-2500 non-mags are 0.05-0.06% Fe2O3, much better than the designed data. SLon applied in Si Jia Ying Iron Mine to recover hematite. Si Jia Ying is a big oxidized iron mine located in He Bei Province of China. In 2005-2010, a plant annually treating 10 million tons of oxidized iron ore was built in which 39 SLon magnetic separators are applied. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 30.44%Fe, iron concentrate grade 66%Fe, iron recovery 80%Fe, tails grade 9.65Fe%. SLon applied to recover specularite. Li Lou Iron Mine in An Hui Province of China built a plant annually processing 5 million tons of iron ore in 2010-2011. 25 SLon-2000 magnetic separators are applied to recover specularite. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 31.65%Fe, iron concentrate grade 65%Fe, iron recovery 80%Fe, tails grade 10.37%Fe. SLon applied in Da Hong Shan Iron Mine. Da Hong Shan Iron Mine is located in Yun Nan province of China. It treats 4.5 million tons of oxidized iron ore annually. 15 SLon-2000 magnetic separators are applied to recover hematite. The total flow sheet results are: Feed grade 35.61%Fe, iron concentrate grade 64.95%Fe, iron recovery 74.08%Fe, tails grade 15.55%. The growing concerns on process efficiency, escalating operating and capital costs along with environmental and social concerns of using conventional technology for extracting gold and titanium dioxide demand an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals and a broader understanding of the various process steps involved. This will allow development of efficient process flowsheet for product recovery and compliance with regulatory guidelines. This paper will discuss our recent developments in mineral processing and hydrometallurgical technologies to recover gold and titanium dioxide from a wide range of feed materials including ores, concentrates and tailings.

"For non-sulphide minerals such as oxidized minerals, fluoride minerals, and oxysalt minerals, there are generality in the molecular structure of their floating collectors, and similarity in crystal structure of the minerals. In the paper, adsorbing mechanism of these collectors on the surface of these mineral particles in different pH pulp was investigated by means of Pauling's rules & valence bond theory, Valence-shell electron pair repulsion theory (VSEPR) theory, Crystal and ligand field theory, and quantum chemistry simulation by DMol3 and CASTEP modules of Material Studio software. Besides, the role and status of hydrogen bond in the floating adsorption mechanism were studied emphatically, and the confirmation and characterization of hydrogen bond were explored also based on the test results. What is more, the conclusion “the effect of hydrogen bond can not be overlooked in adsorbing mechanism of flotation collectors on the minerals” and a new viewpoint of multi-polarity collaboration and hydrogen bond coupling were summarized eventually based on analysis of the measurements. Finally, a novel collector 2-Amino-3-Methyl Heptyloxy-Propylamine (AMHP) was developed based on the new viewpoint of molecular structure design, and its collecting performance was exhibited.INTRODUCTIONWhen it comes to the recovery of flotation, it is necessary for researchers to investigate the flotation mechanism of collectors. In traditional theory, when collectors were used to collect minerals, the attractions between collectors and minerals were divided into chemical, electrostatic and physical attractions (Wills, B.A., 2006). Especially, because of the reaction between sulphide minerals and sulphydryl collectors is complex and various mechanism has been proposed (Yoon and Basilio, 1993), when collectors were used to collect non-sulfide minerals, it can be classified into oxyhydryl anionic collectors and cationic collectors. In traditional theory, the adsorption of oxyhydryl anionic collectors were due to water-repulsion, and the adsorption of cationic collectors were due to electrostatic attraction between the polar head of the collector and the charged electrical double layer on the mineral surface (Wills, B.A., 2006)."
