"The extractive metallurgy of precious metal ores involves gravity concentration, flotation and cyanide leaching. Pre-oxidation, such as roasting, autoclaving, bacterial oxidation and other techniques, is required for processing refractory ores. Selection of the process is mainly driven by the grade, reserve and mineralogy of the target elements. The concentrations of precious metals in the crust are extremely low and highly variable, resulting in ore variability in many gold, silver and PGE deposits. More importantly, precious metals in an ore may occur in two or three forms (i.e. microscopic, submicroscopic and surface-bound), making ore processing of precious metals extremely challenging. The objective of geometallurgy and process mineralogy is to reduce and minimize the technical risk in project evaluation, process selection, mine planning and production forecasting through geometallurgical modelling, representative sampling and subsequent systematic mineralogical characterization and metallurgical testwork. Geometallurgy is a technique to document variability within an orebody and quantify and evaluate the impact of many factors including geology and mineralogy on grinding, flotation, leaching and metal recovery processes, while mineralogy is one of the major predictive and trouble-shooting tools for many new mineral projects and operating mines. This paper presents an overview of fundamentals, methodologies and techniques applied in geometallurgy and process mineralogy and highlights the importance of both disciplines in process selection and plant optimization with applicable case studies. INTRODUCTION Precious metals, including gold, silver and platinum group elements (PGE) occur in various geological settings and ore types. The concentrations of these metals in the crust are extremely low and highly variable, resulting in ore variability in many gold, silver and PGE deposits. More importantly, precious metals in an ore may occur in two or three forms (i.e. microscopic, submicroscopic and surface-bound), making ore processing of precious metals extremely challenging. Process selection is most important in any precious metals project and is mainly driven by the grade, reserve and mineralogy of the target elements. Free-milling ores, such as Kupol in Russia, Hemlo in Canada, Grasburg in Indonesia, UG-2 in South Africa, Lac des Iles in Canada, and Noril’sk in Russia, can be processed using flotation or cyanidation with or without gravity. B2Gold Corp, a Canadian gold company, just started a number of new and under construction free-milling gold operations such as Fekola mill in Mali, Mastbati mine in Philippins and Otjikoto mine in Nambia. However, refractory ores (particularly gold ores), such as the Carlin and Goldstrike mines in the USA, Giant in Canada, Pueblo Viejo in Dominican Republic, Porgera and Lihire in PNG, Kittilla in Finland, Fairview in South Africa and Shuiyindong in China, must be processed using pre-oxidation prior to cyanide leaching. In some mildly refractory gold ores, such as Kumtor mine in Kyrgyzstan and KCGM in Australia, ultrafine grinding is required to liberate fine-grained gold particles. For some gold ores containing both free-milling and refractory components (such as Cripple Creek mine in Colorado, USA), two or more recovery processes may be required. The variability of grade, metal deportment, ore hardness and other parameters is one of the risks that encountered in development and operation of many precious metals projects. To minimize and reduce the technical risk caused by ore variability, geometallurgy and process mineralogy have been used by mining companies in the last two decades to measure and quantify the spatial variability of the deposits that are being developed. The results of the test work of four treatment options of three refractory gold-pyrite and gold-arsenic flotation concentrates are presented. These concentrates were obtained during the concentration of primary ores of large gold deposits. It was found that ultrafine grinding of refractory flotation concentrates did not increase the recovery of gold during subsequent cyanidation. The elimination of sulfur and arsenic during oxidative roasting is 99 per cent. 88-93 per cent of gold is recovered by cyanidation from calcines. After biooxidation of the flotation concentrates with a mixture of strains Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans 88-91 per cent of gold is recoverable by direct cyanidation. The recovery of gold from flotation concentrates by pressure oxidation is 88-99 per cent. These results suggest that gold recovery is important but the following strategies would have an impact on a plant performance and would be considered when developing an option to treat refractory ores: capital and operating costs, ore reserves, mine location, infrastructure and qualified staff. The dissemination grain size of chalcopyrite is really fine and refractory grains of -10µm take up 25%. Dissemination relationships among chalcopyrite with pyrrhotite, pyrite, marcasite and gangue minerals are complex. Content of Fe-bearing sulphides and Fe-bearing silicates associated with chalcopyrite reaches to about 60%. It’s hard to liberate and separate chalcopyrite from pyrrhotite. The above four are the main mineral processing difficulties of a copper ore in China. Because of the similar floatability and poor separation effect between chalcopyrite and pyrrhotite, enhanced depressing and collecting method was adopted in Cu-S separation before 2009. Due to the different magnetism among chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and Fe-bearing silicates, magnetic separation is creatively induced in Cu floatation circuit based on the in-depth study of process mineralogy. High efficiency and new Cu-S separation technology of "Rough concentrate regrinding-pyrrhotite rejecting from middling by magnetic separation" and a highly selective copper minerals collector YL-1 had been developed to solve the difficult problems of refractory Cu-S separation, which are heavy load of middling recirculation,difficulty in upgrading Cu concentrate, unstable locked cycle and low separation indexes. And grade of Cu concentrate has been increased by 3.33%, recovery of Cu and Ag has been increased by 19.32% and 10% respectively.

"The paper supports applicability of satellite imagery at regional and local level for rapid quantitative assessment of natural environment in zones of activity of mining complex enterprises. Exacerbation of environmental problems during mineral mining and processing associated with their scale and geography of field distribution through the vast territory of our country requires constant monitoring of natural environment status, which necessitates engagement of space surveillance nowadays. It is proposed to use the monitoring of land cover and land use at regional and local level for the environmental assessment of a particular production or complex productions. You must establish the dependence of NDVI change trend with the magnitude of anthropogenic impact on the source or multiple sources of environmental pollution a particular area.. We present the results of studies of vegetation remote sensing methods in a number of territories placing mining enterprises. INTRODUCTION Ensuring a healthy environment is necessary both in untouched areas and disturbed. The condition of the developed territories should be monitored with particular attention, since the restoration of the disturbed territories requires great efforts and financial costs. More narrowly, the health of the environment (Zakharov V.M. and etc.,2001) means its quality ensuring the health of man and other species of living organisms, which includes two aspects (Zakharov V.M. and etc, 2000): - ensuring an environment conducive to human health as a biological species: - maintaining the health of the natural environment, i.e. its constituent species of living organisms and plants. The consequence is the disturbance of natural ecosystems, which determines the quality of the environment, favorable for human habitation and the state of health of the population in total determine the status of the territories where enterprises for the development of georesources are located and allow them to be ranked according to the degree of environmental danger. Without knowledge of the trajectory of ecosystem successions, it is impossible to offer adequate requirements for the technologies used to ensure the implementation of the preserved natural potential after the removal or reduction of man-made stress."

Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores (Republic of Kazakhstan) as well as standardized test solutions containing gold, silver, copper, zinc and iron were studied. The best results in silver and gold recovery from Kumistinskoye gold- and silver bearing ores were achieved through use of complex cyanide-thiosulfate solutions as compared to individual cyanide solutions and thiosulfate solutions. It was found that such complex solutions substantially step up leaching process herewith increasing precious metals recovery rates. Thermodynamics of studied chemical processes was calculated. Reaction order, kinetic constant and activation energy of gold leaching process through use of cyanide-thiosulfate solutions were identified. We managed to prove that the sorption rates and holding capacity in process of gold anions recovery with anionite AM-2B are comparable to sorption characteristics for cyanide solutions. Results of the study targeted to development of universal acidic-extraction-precipitation technology for gallium recovery from the sublimates are presented in the paper. This will let to utilize a new non-traditional source for gallium production. Phase composition of gallium containing dust was studied. Forms of gallium in the sublimates were determined. The main form is Ga2O3, however, GaP form is also present in the cottrel dust and Na5Ga3F14 form is present in the dust of aluminum electrolysis. The possibility of gallium concentration was established via secondary pyro-selection of the dust. Kinetics of interaction of dust components with sulfuric acid was studied. The products of the interaction subsequently were leached with water. Optimum conditions for direct leaching with HCl and H2SO4 were determined providing gallium recovery from the cottrel dust and the ash carry outs up to 95 %. Gallium recovery from the primary dust and the secondary dust of aluminum electrolysis was at 52; 64 % and 63; 83 % respectively. Effect of Fe, P, K, Na and Al admixtures for gallium extraction from hydrochloric acid solutions was studied. It was shown that gallium chloride complex (GaCl4-) is extracted into the organic phase from the following acid mixtures: HCl + H2SO4, HCl + H3PO4, HCl + H2SO4 + H3PO4, HCl + HF. Kinetic regularities of gallium extraction in the system (tri butyl phosphate) TBP ? HCl - Ga were studied using diffusion cell method with agitation. Optimum conditions for gallium extraction from complex hydrochloric acid solutions with TBP were found providing 99.9 % recovery and separation coefficient for gallium and iron (III) of more than 25 in one stage. Sodium hydroxide and water were selected as reagents for re-extraction of gallium from the organic phase. Different options for disposal of by-products that are formed in the processing of cottrel dust, ash sublimates and dust of aluminum electrolysis were proposed and tested. The ore, dealt with in this paper, is a certain rutile in Shanxi province, China. A trunk flowsheet with gravity concentration is used, and the TiO2 grade of rutile concentrate is about 90%, but the TiO2 recovery is less than 50%. In order to increase the rutile recovery, the laboratory test, using the truck flowsheet with flotation, is carried out. The flowsheet is that firstly floatable gangue is re-moved by flotation; secondly rutile is recovered by flotation; and thirdly impurity is separated by LIMS, HIMS, gravity concentration and flotation from the rutile concentrate. In rutile flotation, BK423, a phosphonic acid, is used as rutile collector, and Na2SiF6 is used as silicates depressant. The experimental result shows that the recovery of rutile concentrate is improved obviously, and the recovery of ultimate rutile concentrate is 68.01% TiO2 and 84.88% rutile. The TiO2 grade of first concentrate is 95.98%, and the TiO2 recovery is 45.60%. The TiO2 grade of second concentrate is 80.53%, and the recovery is 22.41%. Furthermore, magnetite and ilmenite are recovered in the flowsheet.

"Access to information is a key component for making improvements to any process. This is particularly true for all aspects of the iron mining and steelmaking process. The ability to make rapid control decisions can significantly influence process outcomes, including ensuring product specification, mining quality, transportation limits, upgrade factors, waste bypass and direct shipping, among many others. While traditional laboratory methods provide feedback for such processes, having access to analysis results in real-time can lead to positive reactive and predictive control decisions to be made rapidly, leading to significant improvements throughout the process. Scantech has been designing, manufacturing and supplying technological products to the minerals industry since 2002 to enable the availability of such real-time information to a mine or plant, with the benefits being enjoyed by a wide range of operators. This paper provides a summary of the available technologies used in the iron ore and steel industries, as well as providing case studies of their use in African and Australian iron ore and European steel, as well as a description of the potential benefits of a range of analysis equipment.INTRODUCTION Access to information is critical for any process, and is a fundamental component for making process control decisions. In order to yield effective processing outcomes, it is important for that information to be readily available, preferably as quickly as possible, and to be as accurate as possible. While speed and accuracy are often traded off against each other, there are numerous technologies available in a processing environment that allow for both rapid flow of information and a high level of accuracy. The use of on-belt analysis equipment has a long trusted history of use in a number of mining and processing environments and industries, providing information such as elemental composition and grade of conveyed materials, moisture content, waste proportion and energy information. Mineral flotation is the most used process to selectively separate particles of one or more minerals of interest. The process uses natural or induced hydrophobicity to collect particles on the surface of rising bubbles through collisions and formation of bubble-particle aggregates. Flotation machines must keep particles in suspension and well distributed, while at the same time, disperse a mass of air into a population of small bubbles. The efficiency of the separation depends primarily on the characteristics of the bubble population generated in the machine and its distribution and flow throughout its volume. The formation and separation of bubble-particle aggregates create two zones, with strong interactions between them, and with markedly different hydrodynamics conditions. A model describing two-phase hydrodynamics of the continuous and dispersed phases (frother solutions and bubbles, respectively), moving along the whole unit, is proposed. Bubble populations are characterized at the formation stage including the effect of the presence of frothers. Flow through the aggregates formation zone, where bubbles move freely and are closely spherical, is modeled using drift-flux analysis. In the aggregates separation zone, bubbles initially pack maintaining a water layer thick enough to prevent capillary forces to affect their shape. As water drainage proceeds, bubbles deform, capillary channels form, and a network of channels with a diameter size distribution develops; channels become narrower (permeability is reduced) as the distance from the interface increases. Froth hydrodynamics is characterized using models originally developed to describe unsaturated flow through porous solid particle beds. Effects of hydrostatic pressure are considered.

Batch wise adsorption tests for platinum (Pt) on the surface of activated carbon pellets (Norit RO 0.8 BET surface area 1100 mg/g) were carried out in mixed chloride solution. The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the adsorption performance of amine-treated activated carbons (AACs) and native activated carbons (NACs) in terms of adsorption capacity and selectivity. The effect of pH and temperature on adsorption capacity and selectivity was established. The amine- treated ACs were prepared by anchoring the amino groups (butyl amines) on the surface of AC pellets in aqueous media and the UV-Vis was used to determine the amount of amine sequestered from solution by ACs. The dosage of butyl amine on the surface of ACs averaged 0.15 g/g, carbon. The adsorption mechanism was described by the ionization and complexation model whereby interaction between the protonated AAC surface and the anionic chlorocomplex ions (PtCl5 [H2O]-, PtCl62-) proceeded by either electrostatic attraction or/and by covalent bonding [(NH3)2PtCl6 or (CH2COO)2PtCl6]. By comparison, the adsorption capacities of Pt on amine-treated ACs and native ACs were 53.8 mg/g and 33.03 mg/g, respectively which highlight the benefits of anchoring functional molecules on ACs. The selectivity of AACs was influenced by solution pH. Pt adsorbed selectively on the surface of amine-treated ACs at pH<1.5. The highest separation factor that was recoded pertained to Pt and Fe species (ßPt/Fe = 90) then followed by Pt and Ni species (ßPt/Ni = 30) or Pt and Cu species (ßPt/Cu = 15). The lowest separation factor was recorded for Pt and Cr ions (ßPt/N= 5). Adsorption kinetics of Pt on amine-treated AC surfaces, according to the first and second order reactions, were investigated and results showed that rates were in the order 10= 5). -4 min-1 and 102 g?min/mg, respectively. The pseudo 1st order kinetics predicted the adsorption capacity of 51.81 mg/g which was almost similar to the experimental value (53.8 mg/g) while the second order rate equation predicted Pt adsorption capacity of 40.1 mg/g. Both The Langmuir and Toth isotherm fitted the Pt adsorption at pH < 1.0. The Freundlich isotherm tended to underestimate the adsorption capacity of AACs.

"The article presents the results of precious metals leaching using halogen solvents and their precipitation on a sorbent in the process of pressure oxidation. A technology of pressure oxidation – carbon-in-leach treatment (POX-CIL) of refractory sulphide gold-bearing flotation concentrates with the addition of a halogen solvent and a sorbent was developed based on the laboratory studies and pilot plant tests. The technology involves the following steps: oxidation of a flotation concentrate; precious metals dissolution and recovery on a sorbent; precious metals elution; electrolysis of eluates; smelting of cathode precipitates with producing Dore beads. This approach ensures oxidation at least 98% of sulphides and gold of more than 95%. The POX-CIL process have the following patents: a patent of the Eurasian Patent Organization No.017438 “A method of processing materials containing precious metals and sulphides” and a patent of the Russian Federation No.2625146 “A method of precious metals recovery from refractory sulphide gold-bearing materials”.INTRODUCTION Gold-bearing ores are classified as readily amenable to cyanidation, or non-refractory, and not readily amenable to cyanidation, or refractory [1]. Special attention should be given to the three most common technological types of gold-bearing ore materials, according to the Irgiredmet’s classification: pyrite-arsenopyrite ores with finely disseminated gold locked in sulphides (physical depression of gold in cyanidation process); cupriferous gold-bearing ores, when cyanidation comes along with chemical depression of gold by mineral compounds (cyanisides); carbonaceous ores showing higher sorption activity to precious metals dissolved in cyanide. Direct cyanidation of refractory sulphide gold-bearing materials does not provide high recovery of precious metals. There are the following methods of refractory gold-bearing ores and concentrates preparation to subsequent gold recovery: roasting, fine grinding, bacterial and pressure oxidation (POX) [2]. Existing POX-cyanidation flowsheets involve high costs due to a large amount of process operations and using expensive and environmentally hazardous sodium cyanide."

"This paper describes the mineralogical and metallurgical procedures used to determine the recovery and concentrate grade of heavy oxide minerals occurring in lode deposits. The data produced also provide vital information to the processing engineers, which allows them to develop the most suitable flow sheet for that particular heavy mineral, here called an Economic Oxide Mineral (EOM). It demonstrates how results are interpreted to ensure that the proper process is used at each treatment stage to optimise recovery and to produce the most suitable concentrate at that point. Reference is made to some of the current equipment and techniques that can be used to process EOMs. The paper shows that when assessing the economic potential of a new ore body, or existing ore treatment plant, ore characterisation (OC) is necessary. This is especially true for EOMs such as cassiterite (SnO2), wolframite ((Fe, Mn, WO4,) pyrochlore ((Na,Ca)2Nb2O6(OH,F)), and tantalite (MnTa2O6) where often what seem to be small changes in ore types can have major effects on recovery and concentrate grade. Due to advances in flotation technology scheelite (CaWO4) in some deposits can be less vulnerable to OC variability than other EOM’s. Thorough mineralogical examination is shown to be the fundamental basis of correctly undertaking OC. This is because mineralogical analysis identifies each of the steps required to ensure that all ore types and zones are recognised, and differences explained, and shows the benefit in using reference samples to compare differences in the ores. The OC methods used for EOMs containing metals such as tantalum, tin, tungsten and niobium are similar; if two or more of these EOMs occur in one deposit as separate minerals, then OC will show when and how these minerals should be separated. The OC techniques described for EOMs can also be tailored for other heavy minerals, precious metals and graphite."

"CFM pneumatic flotation machines were developed by the Institute of Materials Science and Metallurgy, UrFU, and designed to concentrate a wide range of ores and man-made materials. A key principle of work is pulp preparation for flotation owing to its saturation with finely dispersed air bubbles in ejectors. CFM plants, their advantages over domestic and foreign prototypes are described. CFM pneumatic machine commercialization resulted in: - machines demonstrated high floatation efficiency for concentration of rebellious pyrrhotite-bearing copper and zink by simultaneous floatation of copper and zinc minerals and depressing pyrrhotite. CFM- 1400M introduction allowed simplifying and optimizing the flow chart and increase extraction of copper - by 5.4%, zinc - by 9.5% and improve the quality of copper (3% Cu) and zinc (1.5% Zn) concentrates. - due to copper pyrite concentration by using CFM 1400M overall copper recovery was increased by 1.5 %, and the content of copper in concentrates - by1%. According to the results of pilot runs, the use of CFM flotation for zinc cakes concentration strongly intensifies the process of cleaning water-soluble metal compounds and, thereby, increases the efficiency of flotation concentration and subsequent milling. CFM machines showed higher specific capacity (three or four times higher) (both for feed material and froth product). Specifically, CFM froth product has higher content of useful elements (silver by 0.014 % abs. zinc by 0.31% abs.) and better extraction (silver by 6.08% abs., zinc by 0.31% abs., and sulfide sulfur by 13.7 %). Sulfide sulfur content of CFM product chamber as compared to mechanical flotation machines is two times lower (0.48 vs. 0.95 %)."

"The copper mining industry in Chile and perhaps in other countries as well is faced with the challenge to implement the best practices in order to achieve a sustainable and more environment-friendly growth. Relationships between mining industry and society have been historically complex due to its environmental impacts. Whereas the ore grade has declined continuously, this has involved an intensive energy and water consumption thus increasing operational costs at different stages of the concentration process. In the case of copper sulphide ore concentration, froth flotation is the main technology used worldwide. The amount of the different chemical reagents used in flotation plants (i.e., collectors, depressants, frothers and modifiers) affects significantly production costs and has a negative effect on the environment as well. The objective of this research work was to evaluate the use of biosolids and their main components (i.e., glucose, proteins and humic substances) as more environment-friendly flotation collectors for chalcopyrite and molybdenite. For this purpose, microflotation tests were conducted in a modified Hallimond tube. In addition, FTIR and zeta potential experiments were performed to investigate the interaction of biosolids with these sulphide minerals. Biosolids and their main components may interact through physical and chemical ways due to different affinities with such sulphide minerals as chalcopyrite, pyrite and molybdenite, which are present in copper sulphide ores. In alkaline pHs, biosolids and their main components make the zeta potential of the sulphide minerals investigated more negative. These results may provide important information concerning the behavior of the main sulphide minerals in the concentration of copper sulphide ores at industrial scale, wherein mill processes could affect their surfaces properties. Therefore, biosolids and their main components may open an opportunity to be used in copper sulphide flotation plants to partially replace conventional reagents, which are more hazardous and less environment-friendly."

"Modelling and simulations for mineral processing plants have been successful in replicating and predicting predefined scenarios of an operating plant. However, there is a need to explore and increase the potential of such simulations to make them attractive for users. One of the tools to increase the attractiveness of the simulations is through applying optimization schemes. Optimization schemes, applied on mineral processing simulations, can identify non-intuitive solutions for a given problem. The problem definition itself is subjective in nature and is dependent on the purpose of the operating plant. The scope of this paper is to demonstrate two optimization schemes: Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Multi-Disciplinary Optimization (MDO) using an Individual Discipline Feasible (IDF) approach. A two stage coarse comminution plant is used as a case plant to demonstrate the applicability of the two optimization schemes. The two schemes are compared based on the problem formulations, types of result and computation time. Results show that the two optimization schemes are suitable in generating solutions to a defined problem and both schemes can be used together to produce complementary results. INTRODUCTION The comminution process for a mineral processing plant consists of multiple crushing and classification stages and aims to produce fine material to liberate ore from the minerals. The modelling and simulation of such processes are well established using static process models (King, 2001; Napier-Munn et al., 1996). A recent development in the dynamic modelling for such processes has shown further increase in fidelity compared to the static process models (Asbjörnsson, 2015). The developed simulations can be utilized to design, operate and control mineral processing plants based on the requirements of users (Bhadani et al., 2017). Typically, the requirements in the operation of the comminution process are conflicting in nature, as for instance, reduction of power draw by process units, maximization of production of fine materials, and increasing utilization of the process units. These conflicting requirements leads to a Multi-Objective Optimization (MOO) problem to operate a mineral processing plant. "A new PVM vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator authorized by China Invention Patent ZL201110294866.4, which featured with vertical magnetic field structure was developed to dramatically save energy consumption and running costs compared with electromagnetic separators. The specific magnetic circuit design ensures PVM separator generating high magnetic field intensity as well as solving equipment large-scaling. The newly developed industrial PVM separator has been proved suitable for recovery of weak magnetic minerals or purification of non-metallic minerals benefiting from its high background and induction magnetic field intensity up to 0.8/1.5T, stable service performance and low running costs. The first ?1.5mm PVM separator has been applied in removing iron from quartz sand in Fengyang, Anhui, and ?2mm PVM separator will be installed to separate hematite. Industrial applications and tests proved that PVM separators could gain similar separation effects and especially save more than 80% of power consumption compared with the conventional electromagnetic high-gradient high-intensity magnetic separator, which will contribute a lot for energy conservation and environmental protection. The development of high gradient magnetic separator technology has played an important role in utilizing weak magnetic minerals, which has been widely used in many mining enterprises. The main forms of high-gradient magnetic separators include both of electromagnetic high-gradient and permanent magnetic high-gradient. The vertical ring high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separator features with high magnetic field gradient, large processing capacity and never clogging, which has been widely used in recovering fine weak magnetic mineral and purification of non-metallic minerals[1-3]. However, electromagnetic coils excitation needs more energy consumption, and relatively high running costs and maintenance costs as a result of the complicated cooling system. So permanent magnetization of the electromagnetic magnetic separation equipment is a very important research direction at present. With the continuous improvement of resource utilization standard and efficiency requirements, high energy consumption of the electromagnetic vertical ring magnetic separator have been highlighted, which has affected the economic benefits of mining enterprises to a certain extent. In the aspect of high-gradient high-intensity permanent magnetic separation equipment, considerable researches have been carried out at home and abroad and many small-sized prototypes were developed yet never strode into large-scale industry applications[4-6]."

"The mineral surface characteristic is important for the flotation because it affects the flotation behavior of the mineral. Conventionally, in the flotation process for Cu sulphide ores, the degree of ore floatabilities varies depending on the mineral phase such as chalcopyrite, bornite, or chalcocite. Therefore, mineral surfaces are treated with activators and depressants to control the floatability of target minerals and obtain high recovery performance. There are lots of flotation reagents which have many effects on ores depending on ore characteristics and conditioning methods. For example, sodium hydrosulphide (NaHS) as activator is known to have the effect of resulfurizing and activating oxidized surface of chalcocite and bornite. On the other hand, NaHS is reported to depress chalcopyrite floatability. In this study, the evaluation of mineral surfaces was conducted to predict flotation behavior. Activation of Cu minerals (chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite) by NaHS was experimented. The three Cu minerals were treated in two steps. Firstly, they were oxidized in the drying oven. Secondly, they were treated with NaHS solution. After each treatment step, each mineral was measured by contact angle apparatus then analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results of surface characteristics after oxidation and NaHS treatment were utilized to accomplish the study’s objective. INTRODUCTIONCopper sulfide minerals such as chalcocite (Cu2S), bornite (Cu5FeS4), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) are well-known abundant copper-containing minerals. Generally, these minerals are recovered and concentrated via collector flotation. In flotation, the wettability of the mineral surface is an important factor in its recovery. When the surface is hydrophobic, the mineral has high floatability and when the surface is hydrophilic, it has low floatability. Usually, Cu sulfide minerals have high floatability. However when their surfaces are oxidized, their floatability becomes lower in flotation. In this case of surface oxidation occurrence, activators are added before flotation to modify the surface property of the Cu sulfide minerals so that they can be floated at a certain flotation condition. Sodium hydrosulfide, NaHS, is known as one of the activators. Zhao et al. (2018) reported that NaHS is often used as sulfurizer for oxidized sulfide minerals (Becker et al., 2014, Clark et al., 2000, Newell et al., 2006, 2007, Newell and Bradshaw, 2007). Although the floatability of Cu sulfide minerals was raised by adding NaHS generally, the results of this flotation study showed that the flotation behaviors of mixed chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite were different. Therefore, it was considered that NaHS works differently for each mineral."

This paper describes results of laboratory studies on recovery of dissolved uranium values from alkaline leach slurries of a medium-grade uranium ore from Gogi (Karnataka, India) using the resin-in-pulp (RIP) process. Besides anionic carbonate complex of uranium, the other major ionic constituents of the leach solution are CO32-, HCO3-, SO42- and MoO42-. The total dissolved solutes (TDS) are about 45 g/L. Various commercially available strong bases anionic resin-in-pulp (RIP) grade resins ? both macroporous and gel type, were studied with respect to their loading capacity. Parametric variation studies were then carried out with the short-listed resins. Results of the semi-continuous counter-current extraction and elution tests indicated extraction efficiency of about 98% and practically complete elution of the loaded uranium values with NaCl eluant using a gel type polystyrene based resin grafted with quaternary ammonium ion. In the present work, the influence of coagulant, polymeric flocculant structure type and mode of addition on flocculation performance and dewatering behaviour of plant mineral waste tailings of diverse mineralogy (kaolin, quartz, goethite/hematite feldspar, gibbsite, rutile, and Illite) is investigated. High molecular weight, non-ionic polyacrylamide homopolymer and anionic (acrylate) and cationic (quaternary acrylate) copolymers were used in orthokinetic flocculation of colloidal-ly-stable, aqueous dispersion of negatively charged particles. It is demonstrated that, through prudent selection and mode of addition of polymer structure types, synergistic effect between certain cationic and anionic flocculants can be readily achieved, leading to significantly improved dewaterability of the heterogeneous mineral waste tailings.

"The recycling of waste car tyres is a very important environmental task. The waste tyres usually are re-used or recycled by thermal processes like pyrolysis, gasification or incineration. The main problem associated with these processes is the sulphur content of waste tyres originated from the vulcanisation process, which pollutes the environment and the valuable products (i.e. pyrolysis oil) as well. In our research the desulphurisation of waste, mechanically prepared tyre sample was systematically investigated by the biosolubilisation with Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans, strain Karitas. Parallel, the experiments with sterile 9K nutrient medium were also carried out. It was found that the vulcanisation sulphur can be solubilised due to both the bio- and the chemical leaching, although the bioleaching is more effective. The solubilised vulcanisation sulphur then forms precipitates. The precipitates are forming in the bulk solution, as well as on the surface of rubber particles. The origin of the precipitates was investigated using XRD and scanning microscopy with micro probe. The origin of the precipitates is different: while in the process of the vulcanisation sulphur solubilisation with 9K medium the jarosite (KFe3+3(SO4)2(OH)6) forms, the course of the biosolubilisation with Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans Karitas is accompanied by the formation of the jarosite and the halotrichite (FeAl2(SO4)4 · 22H2O) as well. The formation of the latter is the biomineralisation. The mechanisms of the bio- and chemical solubilisations are rather different as it was found and experimentally proved by several tests, and depends on the retention time of the solubilisation. Special efforts were done to elaborate the proper separation of the precipitates from rubber particles. Combination of intense dynamic stirring and recycling flotation process to remove the precipitates was applied for this purpose. The surface properties of synthetic jarosite were revealed using zeta-potential measurements at different pH and in presence of collectors. The parameters of the flotation were chosen based on the revealed surface properties of the precipitates. Finally, the sulphur recovery of the recycled rubber was achieved as low as <0.5%, sulphur content of it 0.17%, 12-times lower than that of the waste tyre sample after mechanical preparation."
