Caterpillar and Fortescue Metals Group have moved forward with the delivery, installation and support of a complete Cat MineStar System at Fortescue?s Solomon iron ore mine in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The complete technology suite was implemented for the first phase of Solomon, the 20 Mt/a (22 million stpy) Firetail manned mine, in October 2012. As part of an autonomous mining solution for phase two, the 40-Mt/a (44-million stpy) Kings Mine, eight Command for hauling Cat 793F CMD trucks were commissioned and commenced operations in the second quarter of 2013. The mine plan calls for a progressive ramp up to 45 autonomous trucks during the next several years. In addition, other Cat MineStar System capability sets, Fleet, Terrain, Detect and Health, are being used across the mobile equipment fleet, including support equipment and light vehicles. Working closely with Fortescue and its mining contractor, Leighton Contractors, Caterpillar and the Cat dealer in Western Australia, WesTrac, are providing a full solution for managing, operating and supporting Cat MineStar System and Command for hauling. The greenfield Solomon Mine has brought together the skilled team from Caterpillar, Fortescue, Leighton Contractors and WesTrac to deliver an efficient, cost effective autonomous mining solution.

This article describes and analyzes the history of research into the origins of the uranium-vanadium(-radium) deposits of the Paradox Basin. For several decades after their discovery in 1881, research was desultory and almost entirely descriptive, fluctuating with demand for vanadium and radium. Systematic geologic descriptions, accumulated between 1910 and 1950, supported rapid progress during a government-backed surge of research in the 1950s, when uranium was the chief commodity of interest. Most of the major theoretical innovations date from this decade, including the use of concepts from solution chemistry to identify the conditions and constrain the processes of deposit formation and alteration. Research from this time was highly influential in geology at large, providing the model for sandstone-hosted uranium deposits worldwide and numerous new minerals and mineral structures. After about 1960, mine production remained high but research dwindled, and most new advances were to the details of the hydrothermal model of ore formation rather than its core concepts. By the end of the 1960s, the deposits were understood to have formed at the mixing interface of an oxidized, metal-bearing water with a reducing fluid of debated origin. Research was desultory over the ensuing decades; the source of the metals and the nature of the chemicals constituting the trap were not clearly established. They remain questions today, as do factors like the relationship between ore mineralization and the geologic history of the basin. (More in the full paper.)

INTRODUCTION In this chapter, the term "down-the-hole drill" (DTH drill) is used as a generic name that encompasses the various trade names and other references such as "downhole drill," "in-the-hole drill," etc. This chapter is limited to a description of DTH drills used in stoping large underground ore bodies. DTH drills differ from conventional drills by virtue of the placement of the drill in the drill string. The DTH drill follows immediately behind the bit into the hole, rather than remaining on the feed as with ordinary drifters. Thus, no energy is dissipated through the steel or couplings, and the penetration rate is nearly constant, regardless of the depth of the hole. Since the drill must operate on compressed air and tolerates only small amounts of water, cuttings are flushed either by air with water-mist injection or by standard mine air with a dust collector at the collar. HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT Mine managers have long known the economies enjoyed by quarry and open-pit operators in producing large quantities of ore. The savings are due primarily to the availability of massive equipment, capable of drilling large blastholes to reduce the amount of drilling, increase the fragmentation, reduce secondary blasting, and im¬prove the flow of the product. In an attempt to reduce underground mining costs, various methods are used for long-hole drilling, includ¬ing standard pneumatic percussion drifters and diamond drills. These systems have their shortcomings; percus¬sion drills are limited to small hole sizes and they ex¬perience excessive deviation and significant loss of energy with increased depth. The diamond drills provide deeper and straighter holes, but only at high cost. Both systems suffer from high noise levels, low penetration rates, and poor explosives distribution, among other problems. When the mining companies approached the drill manufacturers for a compact and portable large-hole jumbo for underground use, they specified not more than 1 % deviation on 60 m (200 ft) of vertical hole and a penetration rate of 15 m/h (50 fph). On Dec. 23, 1960, a test unit was placed in service in Montana and met the performance criteria. Though lacking the so¬phisticated features available today, the economies of surface blasting were brought underground. Unfortunately, the first system did not gain immedi¬ate acceptance in the industry. Among the factors con¬tributing to its demise were resistance to change, the need to alter development methods for the ore bodies, and a lack of flexibility in moving the rig from setup to setup and from level to level. In 1972, the mining industry again challenged the drill manufacturers to provide a workable jumbo that would combine compactness, ease of maintenance, relia¬bility, and efficiency, all on a self-propelled chassis. The manufacturers responded by providing improved jumbos, which have been accepted with enthusiasm throughout the mining industry. Today's DTH jumbos are capable of drilling from 100 to 200 mm (4 to 8 in.) diam holes that can be reamed to even larger diameters. The holes can be drilled to depths of 150 m (500 ft), depending upon ground conditions and the capability of the jumbo to retrieve the steel and drill. Fig. 1 illustrates a typical DTH jumbo. APPLICATIONS The uses to which DTH drill jumbos have been put are quite numerous, with new uses being found regularly. For convenience, these uses may be classified as primary blastholes and nonblasting holes. Primary Blastholes The original purpose for the development of the DTH jumbo was for drilling primary blastholes that could be mined by open-stope methods. Prior to the advent of the DTH jumbo, extensive development was required before production drilling could begin. Sub¬levels were required to allow access for column-and-arm stopers or ring/fan jumbos, to the extent necessary based on the effective penetration of the chosen machine. With the DTH jumbo, the mine engineer is able to reduce preproduction time and development costs. How¬ever, the most significant saving results from an im¬proved cost per ton of broken ore in the production phase. To utilize a DTH system, only a top heading and drawpoints are necessary. The top heading can be the width of the ore body with a 3.7-m (12-ft) back. A drop-raise pattern is drilled and shot to begin the stoping operation, providing a free face for subsequent blasting. A typical layout is illustrated in Fig. 2. The advantages of this system include: 1) Drilling and blasting are independent operations, and blasting can be performed at a rate congruous with the mine's ton-per-day capacity. 2) The development layout is simplified. 3) Good explosive distribution is achieved, provid¬ing more uniform fragmentation. 4) Environmental conditions for operators are im¬proved, including improved safety with all work directed downward (not overhead), lower noise levels, little fog, and a reduced dust count. 5) Improved production per manshift. 6) Simplified and easier operator work cycles. 7) Reduced cost per ton of product. 8) Fewer holes lost due to ground shifts. Nonblasting Holes With the introduction of the compact DTH jumbos, other practical uses became apparent, including the drilling of: 1) Holes for sand fill, from level to level and from level to stope. 2) Drain and dewatering holes. 3) Power and communications cable holes.

We wanted to find a safer and quicker way to extend the wear life of the pump with regular adjustments, which led us to development of this technology,” said Marcus Lane, global product manager for centrifugal pumps for Weir Minerals.“Our automated throatbush adjustment solutions are available for pumps fitted with either rubber or alloy throatbushes on Warman slurry pumps used in the most arduous applications, and have been designed with our customers’ safety and pump operation in mind. By mechanizing the adjustment procedure, personnel are removed from the line of fire, and the accuracy of axial movement is increased,” said Ron Bourgeois, director of slurry pumping technology group for Weir Minerals."

Residential and commercial plumbers in the United States were introduced to Viega?s copper press technology in 1999. In short, the technology allows plumbers and installers to join copper pipe securely in four to seven seconds on pipe sizes of 1.2 to 10 cm (0.5 to 4 in.) by pressing the connections with specialized tools and fittings rather than through sodering or welding. The water- and air-tight technology, first introduced in Germany in 1989, includes three different sealing elements, a variety of materials and a selection of configurations. By eliminating the need to thread or solder pipe, connections and repairs can be made quickly and securely. Installations are also much quicker and as secure as traditional methods.

Attendees at December?s Arizona SME Section Conference at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort outside of Tucson, AZ were feeling optimistic and ready to get to work after a year of steady growth and recovery in the mining industry. During the two-day event (Dec. 5-6, 2010) and the preceding American Mining Hall of Fame banquet and awards ceremony, the focus was on copper, worldwide population growth and regulatory pressures, with several smart new projects featured alongside updates to traditional large-scale copper development projects. Keynote speaker Timothy Snider, chair of the University of Arizona?s Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources, hit the mood of cautious optimism when he analyzed the global demand for resources, using the case example of copper. Over the next 20 years, he said, the world?s population is expected to grow to 9.2 billion and the average annual per capita copper use is expected to rise from 2.2 to 4.5 kg (5 to 10 lb). The increase in demand will provide tremendous opportunity for mining companies, he said, but cautioned that the opportunities are balanced by negative influences on demand and pressures on supply. While demand for copper is currently growing, Snider noted that there were significant downward pressures on demand as well. These included a western world that is overbuilt, in-creasing use of substitute materials in new construction and the rise of wireless devices. He also noted new regulatory pressures, and pointed out that resource development now had to occur within a context of sustainability on several levels.

Various coal mine robots (CMRs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are implemented to explore unknown mines for improving the safety and efficiency of mining. It is challenging for CMRs and UAVs to achieve accurate positioning due to the absence of the Global Positioning System (GPS), poor lighting conditions, and similar geometric features in complex mine scenes. LiDAR-based localization and mapping methods are more accurate than others, while long-time running in large-scale scenarios will introduce nonnegligible cumulative errors. This study presents a semantic-aided Li- DAR simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) with loop closure, which leverages the uniqueness of mine intersection structure to establish stable semantic loop closure. Specifically, we propose a semantic intersection descriptor of translation and rotation invariance, which encodes 3D point clouds of the same intersection from different positions and viewpoints into a unified image. By using the semantic descriptor, we can construct a constant loop constraint when the same intersection is revisited from different directions to reduce cumulative drift. We provide experimental validation using large data sets collected in two large underground mines, namely, a simulated Edgar mine deployed in ROS Gazebo and a public underground mine data set provided by ETH. Experimental results show that the proposed method has higher localization accuracy and outperforms the existing LiDAR-based SLAM strategies.

ShouSteel Mining Ltd., a subsidiary of ShouSteel (Group) Co., was founded in 1959 and is located in QianAn City in Hebei Province, China. ShouSteel?s pelletizing plant uses iron ore as a raw material combined with limestone, dolostone, or olivine, with bentonite as a binder. After mixing the raw materials and forming them into small, spherical balls, ShouSteel then fires pellets in kilns for hardening. The company sells the finished pellets as raw materials for blast furnaces used to produce industrial metals such as iron. ShouSteel?s handling capacity is approximately 24.5 Mt/a (27 million stpy) of ore. The company?s production capacity is 3.2 Mt/a (3.5 million stpy) of oxide pellets and 560 Mt (650 million st) of sinters. Until recently, ShouSteel Mining had not replaced its electronic scales in its series of ingredient chambers. Because of the wear and tear on these older scales, the weighing system began to encounter regular problems. The company experienced a high failure rate from the integrator, an unstable signal, weak anti-interference ability and low accuracy. ShouSteel also found that spare parts required during repairs were consistently high in cost and that system calibration was becoming increasingly frequent.

Introduction As with many gravity concentration processes, pneumatic concen¬tration traces its origin in antiquity. The use of winnowing to separate chaff from grain has long been known, and such procedures were undoubtedly practiced in ancient civilizations for the concentration of ores and the separation of slag from metal whenever specific gravity, size, and shape differences were favorable. Taggart142 has reported on the use of dry rockers and dry panning techniques for use with gold ores in arid regions such as Western Australia. The present day air table was developed in the last century for this purpose. Devices and Processes Classification. All classifiers make a separation on the basis of size, shape, and specific gravity. In addition to specific gravity and size, particle shape factor is often particularly important to pneumatic processes, and advantage is taken of the fact that both flat and fibrous particles settle at velocities substantially lower than that of their equiv¬alent spheres. Another factor of importance in this process is the bulk density of the material since substances such as exfoliated ver¬miculite or partially opened fibrils of asbestos have bulk densities significantly lower than those of the pure in situ mineral. Winnowing takes advantage of all of these physical factors to affect a separation starting with a closely sized feed, and vermiculite has been separated from rock by this process.142 When air classifiers are used to size minerals, the separation will often not be perfect because heavy particles will respond similarly to somewhat coarser light particles while flat, elongated, and low bulk density particles will act as would particles finer than the cut size. An example of a classification process that also results in concentration is the zig-zag classifier"' used to separate paper from glass, metal bottles, and cans during the recycle of municipal solid waste. Application of this process to minerals showing the proper specific gravity, size, and shape differ¬ences is obvious. An important device of this type is an air-aspirated screen used to remove asbestos from its associated rock during the dry processing of that mineral.144 The raw ore is crushed and screened and the asbes¬tos removed by aspiration from the surface of the screen by virtue of its shape and low bulk density. Hindered Settling. Based on the discussion in the section on "Hindered Settling Concentration and Jigging," the use of air devices could be anticipated in desert areas or where moisture may be deleteri¬ous to the product to be separated. Such processes have three major defects: (1) dust may be difficult to contain, (2) fines are difficult to process, and (3) the process is inherently less efficient than are wet processes as may be seen from Eqs. 3 and 4 in the section on "Hindered Settling Concentration and Jigging p. 4-47." Taggart142 has reported on the use of both dry panning and a dry rocker for gold separation in and regions. The dry panning makes use of winnowing, defection on the basis of specific gravity and shape during fall, and hindered settling. Prescreened placer material is poured from one pan to another as air blows across the falling stream. The process is repeated many times with hand picking to produce a rough concentrate. Magnetic minerals are then removed, and the residue, one grain deep in the pan, is air blown. In dry rocking the gravel is sized on a steeply inclined screen with the undersize fed to a riffle box with a porous bottom which is blown from underneath."' This device was the forerunner of the present-day air table. Air Tables and Jigs.145. 146 At least nine types of these devices have been developed, all but two of them for coal. While the devices used for coal may be characterized as pneumatic jigs, pneumatic tables, and pneumatic landers,145 only pneumatic jigs survive today. The same is true for ores.'" In these devices presized particles are fed to the separator which consists of an inclined vibrating conveyor with a porous surface through which air is carefully introduced to form a fluid bed. The lighter particles are lifted by the air out of uphill conveyance and float downhill, while the heavier particles in contact with the surface are conveyed uphill by the vibrator. Typically both transverse and longitudinal slopes are used. A plan view of a Triple S air table and the type of separation made is shown in Fig. 44.147 Because of its external appearance, the device has been called an air table, although it functions essentially as a jig. However, some of the asymetrical acceleration conveying function of a standard shak¬ing table is also performed by the eccentric vibrator incorporated into this device. Low pressure air is admitted below the vibrating table surface consisting of cloth (e.g., canvas), porous plastic, woven wire, or punched metal supported on a wire mesh or grid. As with a shaking table, the device produces a concentrate, middlings, and tailings. The middlings are recycled or are subsequently treated on another concentrating device. As with many wet separations, presizing by screening is necessary. The oft-repeated admonition of Professor Richards, "Separation without classification is damnation," is cer¬tainly true here. In this way a small heavy particle which might weigh the same as a large light particle and thus report to the same place on the air table has already been removed in the sizing step. Air tables are almost universally encased with a canopy to remove dust by aspiration. Some concentration may also be achieved in this step when favorable specific gravity, size, and shape differences are present. Applications Ore Separations. Air tables were originally developed for ore separations, and they find application in and regions or where water is deleterious or inconvenient to use or remove (e.g., small tonnage materials already dried). They have been used for asbestos, bauxite, calcite, cassiterite, columbite-tentalite, diatomaceous earth, fluorite, gilsonite, graphite, kyanite, manganese minerals, mica, managite, perlite, pyrite, pyrrhotite, vermiculite, and uraninite ores. More recently, air tables have found favor in separating a wide variety of secondary materials such as abrasive grains, bone char, catalysts, fiberglass, scrap glass, scrap wire from its insulation, prills from slag, dross and coke from metal or from each other, metal from crushed crucibles, lead from plastic in old batteries, and cubic particles from flat ones. The devices also finds considerable application in the preparation of food¬stuffs. Utah statute defines sovereign lands as "those lands lying below the ordinary high water mark of navigable bodies of water at the date of statehood, and owned by the state by virtue of its sovereignty." The lands within the bed of Great Salt Lake (GSL) are, by this definition, sovereign lands, acquired at statehood in 1896 in accordance with the "equal footing" doctrine, granting each state control and ownership of navigable waters and the lands underneath those waters within its borders. Under public trust doctrine, the state, as trustee for the people, bears responsibility for preserving and protecting the right of the public to use of the waters for navigation, commerce, fishing, recreation, and wildlife habitat. Also by statute, sovereign lands are defined as "state lands," to be managed by "multiple use sustained-yield principles." The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands is given management authority for sovereign lands and, as manager, has responsibility to prepare comprehensive plans, initiate studies of the lake and its resources, implement comprehensive plans through state and local entities, and coordinate the activities of various divisions within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands also has responsibility for management of mineral leasing on sovereign lands. The many resources on the lake--water, minerals, wildlife, recreation, archeological and historical values--are managed by as many state agencies which occasionally creates conflicts. The brines of GSL contain several ions that crystalize into valuable minerals during evaporation. The major ions in the lake are, in order of relative abundance, chloride, sodium, sulfate, magnesium, and potassium. Mineral products which are currently extracted from lake brines are sodium chloride, magnesium chloride brine which can be sold as flake magnesium chloride or further processed into magnesium and chlorine gas, and potassium sulfate. Mineral products which have potential for extraction include gypsum, sodium sulfate, and trace amounts of lithium, boron, and bromine. The GSL contained an estimated 4.3 billion short tons (st) (3.9 billion metric tons [mt]) of dissolved salts in 1998. Utah Geological Survey (UGS) estimates of the dissolved salt content in GSL have fluctuated from 4.0 to 5.5 billion st (3.6 to 5.0 billion mt) due to the dynamic conditions in the lake as salts are precipitated and redissolved, and due to the diversion of brines from GSL, such as the West Desert Pumping Project. The lake has four areas of varying salinity, separated by dikes or other man-made structures: north arm and Stansbury Bay brines at near saturation (25 to 27 percent total dissolved solids [TDS]); the main body of the south arm with concentrations ranging from 7 to 15 percent TDS as lake elevations fluctuate; the waters in Farmington Bay at approximately 3 to 5 percent TDS; and Bear River Bay at <1 to 7 percent TDS. The percent TDS in Bear River Bay fluctuates with lake level, and changes in Bear River inflow. The transfer of salts from the south arm to the north arm has raised questions about the viability of the mineral and brine shrimp industries. The UGS and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) continue to monitor salinities at designated sites on the lake to document changing lake salinity. A recurrent theme is that placement of dikes and diversions can have significant and rapid impacts on various conditions in the lake. Hydrocarbon resources on the lake are significant, but presently undeveloped. The hydrocarbons are low gravity (4 to 9 degree API) and tar-like, contain high nitrogen concentrations, and up to 12 percent sulfur. The unusual characteristics of the oil have been the subject of studies by chemists at Weber State University and University Louis Pasteur de Strasbourg. However, these resources are difficult, and at present, uneconomic to extract using current technology because of the nature of the hydrocarbons, and production in "an offshore, highly saline environment." Oolitic sand deposits make up many of the beaches and shorelines around the lake. Because of their high calcium carbonate content, oolites have been used by Magnesium Corporation of America (MagCorp) and its predecessors for acid neutralization and dike construction. Oolites are also used in very minor amounts in flower drying. The Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining reports up to 130,000 st (118,000 mt) mined annually by MagCorp from U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands adjacent to GSL. Currently, there are twelve producing mineral leases which generated slightly more than $1,000,000 in royalties during calendar year 1998. IMC Kalium Ogden Corp. (IMC Kalium) produces potassium sulfate and magnesium chloride from brines concentrated through solar evaporation in Bear River Bay and Clyman Bay. By-product sodium chloride is transferred to IMC Salt, which packages and sells the salt. MagCorp produces magnesium metal from brines concentrated in Stansbury Bay. Cargill Salt produces sodium chloride from brines provided by MagCorp under a lease agreement. Morton Salt produces salt at the southeast end of Stansbury Island. Lastly, North Shore Limited produces cocentrated brines for use in dietary and mineral/vitamin supplements near Spring Bay in the north arm of the lake. Producers of magnesium, potash, and salt from GSL contribute significantly to the value of metals and industrial minerals in Utah. Together these companies contribute approximately $240 million in gross value, or 18 percent of the value of the state&apos;s nonfuel mineral production. Most of this production is exported.

This study simulates the impact of a shale gas well casing breach near a longwall mine. Field studies are conducted to measure mining-induced permeability changes over the abutment pillar of a longwall mine, and a geomechanical model is developed in 3DEC, a three-dimensional numerical modeling code, to predict the aperture of fractures in the overburden at the study site. The predicted aperture values are used to determine mining-induced permeabilities, and the results are compared with the field measurements. These aperture values are provided as inputs into fracture flow code (FFC), which generates a stochastic discrete fracture network (DFN) model for the study site and predicts the potential shale gas flow to the mine. Results from 100 DFN realizations are statistically analyzed using the bootstrapping method to compensate for notable variation in fracture geometry. The results show a significant difference between the gas inflow for nearby panels due to increase in the induced permeability during mining of the second panel. The average gas flow to the mine was calculated as 4.72 × 10 m3/s (49 cfm) for a hypothetical breach at the Sewickley horizon during the first panel mining, 8.97 × 10 m3/s (19 cfm) for a hypothetical breach at the Uniontown horizon during the first panel mining, 2.16 × 10 m3/s (458 cfm) for a hypothetical breach at the Sewickley horizon during the second panel mining, and 8.07 × 10 m3/s (171 cfm) for a hypothetical breach at the Uniontown horizon during the second panel mining. Depending on the mine ventilation system, this could result in methane concentrations exceeding regulatory limits. Hence, these findings provide insights into the potential risk of an unconventional gas well casing breach near a longwall mine under shallow cover.

The Troy deposit is located in northwestern Montana, approximately 17 mi south of Troy. The deposit is a stratiform, strata- bound, copper-silver deposit which occurs in the Revett formation of the Proterozoic Belt Supergroup. The Revett formation is approximately 1730 ft thick in the vicinity of the Troy deposit, and is divisible into three units. The upper Revett, approximately 250 ft thick, is the host for the orebody. The Revett represents a deltaic environment. The Troy deposit was discovered by Bear Creek Mining Company in 1 963 during the course of a reconnaissance stream sediment sampling program that was designed to discover strata-bound copper deposits. The deposit is approximately 7500 ft long, 1800 ft wide, and averages 60 ft thick. It is bounded on the north by outcrop, on the east by a post-mineral fault, on the south by diminishing grade and post-mineral faults, and on the west by diminishing grade. Ore reserves are 64 million tons with a grade of 0.76% Cu and 1.58 oz Ag per ton. The mine is presently operating at a production rate of 4.2 million oz of silver and 20,000 tons of copper per year.

Prior to 1970, the environmental liabilities associated with mine construction and management were few. Mostly, they were aimed at health and safety matters. At that time less than two dozen codes were incorporated into the engineering design and they were somewhat static and well known by the engineering designers and managers. These codes issued by governmental agencies and professional associations are listed in Table 1

Understanding constraints within the raw battery material supply chain is essential for making informed decisions that will ensure the battery industry’s future success. The primary limiting factor for long-term mass production of batteries is mineral extraction constraints. These constraints are highlighted in a first fill analysis which showed significant risks if lithium-ion batteries are used to fully support vehicle electrification and intermittent energy storage. Nickel, lithium, cobalt and graphite reserves risk 100 percent depletion with significant consumption of known resources. Furthermore, more than 700 new critical mineral mines will need to be developed to meet the required production rates for decarbonization by 2050. Demand for critical minerals will outpace mine development timelines even as improvements are made to battery energy density and compositions. Governments and the private sector need to align themselves on decarbonization goals to establish cooperative agreements on the critical mineral supply chain by reducing the barriers to entry and increasing exploration efforts. Additional measures must also be taken to reduce the demand for critical minerals. Policy such as incentivizing public transportation and biking infrastructure can be exploited to drastically reduce the mineral demand placed on the mining industry.

The Seismic Interactive Interpretation Workstation (IIW) integrates various sets of geophysical and geological data to form a network of information which is stored in a database. Computer models are generated from known drillhole information and later correlated with the processed seismic data. Seismic color processing adds another dimension to the interpretation process. Complex trace attributes provide better definition of subtle features not easily observed from black and white sections. Utilizing the computer workstation, the explorationist gains valuable insight and conducts more intelligent interpretation of seismic data through a more comprehensive network of data analysis.

Gravity concentration has been the main method for tin ore beneficiation, based on the significant difference of density between cassiterite and gangue in the tin ore. However, with the exhaustion of rich and coarse reserves, the proportion of tin distribution in slime be-comes as high as 50 to 70% and has a size range of -19 urn. In some sulfide tin ore, most of the tin is of the minus 10-urn size fraction, and thus slime processing has gained importance in tin ore processing. Some innovations are being developed, such as the centrifugal cone separator, belt concentrator, slime table, B-M separator, and slime flotation. Direct flotation with tolyl arsonic acid has been practiced with success.

Clinoptilolite zeolite may offer attractive, cost-effective alternatives for remedial cleanup of old minesites, smelters and other sites with heavy metal contamination. Previous research demonstrates the relatively strong affinity of clinoptilolite for numerous metals and clinoptilolite displays a particularly strong affinity for lead (Loizidou and Townsend, 1987), one of the most toxic and problematic heavy metals. Since clinoptilolite can also selectively absorb some radionuclides and organic compounds, it may offer practical solutions to a wide variety of environmental problems.

In situ extraction of copper through borehole injection presents a new technology for the mining of copper. For the successful application of this technology, copper recovery at the surface must be specifically designed for borehole injection and the general conditions of the well field. This paper describes the design of a solvent extraction / electrowinning facility specifically designed for in situ leaching of copper. This design is based on commercial solvent extraction / electro-winning with considerations of the requirements of this specific application.

This transformation will put more younger people in management positions. This study provides valuable insights into the leadership behaviors of younger and older managers within a large Swedish mining company, highlighting the importance of managerial experience and targeted training programs to foster effective leadership, particularly in the context of change management. The findings emphasize the need to create work environments that support managers to develop their leadership, contributing to improved employee well-being, operational efficiency, and adaptation to the changing demands of the modern mining sector.

In the event of fire underground, it is essential that all miners be warned as quickly as possible. With mine air, rapidly depleted of oxygen and contaminated with smoke and toxic fire gases, any delay in the warning signal could have disastrous consequences. Unfortunately, present mine, fire warning systems, such as stench, audible or visual alarms, telephones, and messengers, are often slow, unreliable, and limited in coverage.
