Executives in the mining industry are facing dramatically changing market expectations on reporting and transparency regarding the environmental and social impacts of projects, supply chains and products. Companies increasingly need to disclose the governance procedures they have in place to ensure communities, investors, employees, and Indigenous partners are effectively managing social and environmental risks. These disclosure requirements begin during exploration and carry through to all stages along the project life cycle. This type of environmental, social and governance (ESG) disclosure is referred to as ESG performance by the investment community. ESG is not a new concept, and it builds on and is intertwined with many concepts such as corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility, eco-efficiency, triple bottom line thinking, life cycle management and many others. This paper will explore how mining companies can develop a credible ESG governance approach and strategy that will reduce risk, open opportunities, and create value. This paper will summarise ESG trends and drivers, discuss the economics and investors’ perspective towards ESG, and outline leading ESG standards and guidelines of interest to investors, regulators, communities and other stakeholders. Linkage of ESG to global sustainability efforts such the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact will also be addressed.

Mine lateral development advance rates currently average about 5 metres (16.5 ft.) per day. Granduc Tunnel hit 35.1 metres (115 ft.) on their best day, 12 km from the portal, single heading forty-three years ago. This Canadian mining record remains an excellent example of rapid drill and blast excavation with suggestions for improving current practice.

"WITHIN THE BROAD PARAMETERS implied by the title of my speech, I propose to deal more particularly this evening with a subject the many aspects of which have constituted the essential elements of one of the main thrusts undertaken by the MAC in the past two years, i.e., to create among Canadians a much greater awareness of the importance of mining and to demonstrate to them what are the many and varied benefits they derive from mining activities across their country. In other words, MINING - WHAT IT MEANS TO CANADA.I also intend to discuss some aspects of government-industry relationships.I am very conscious of the fact that I am speaking to an audience made u in large part of experts in several fields of mining and exploration activities. They will be familiar with many of the points I intend to discuss. However, without in any way suggesting that familiarity breeds contempt, might I emphasize that even in this particular forum there is justification for reiterating some of our basic philosophies and suggesting ways whereby they might be better understood and promoted.Let us first summarize the present dimensions of the Canadian mining industry."

Abstract In a review of the application of electrical logging in Canada, examples are .given of long and short distance correlations by means of the electrical logs. The use of MicroLogging for the determination of permeable and porous formations is explained. The question of log analysis for the quantitative determination of fluid saturation and porosity is .discussed. An example is provided to illustrate the significance of the resistivity gradient. The advantages of the new method of the Laterolog are shown, chiefly for the case of wells filled with high-salinity mud. Introduction Electrical logging techniques developed rapidly in Canada at the time an intensive drilling activity started for the exploitation of the Devonian series in Alberta, namely, at the beginning of 1947. The conventional service was soon thereafter supplemented with the latest technica1 improvements. Canada has been among the first regions to take advantage of MicroLogging*, which has proved a most powerful .tool for the investigation of permeable and porous formations; also, the more recent development known as the Laterolog has ?been introduced in Canada. The Laterolog provides a better determination of .the formations, particularly in the case of salty mud where the conventional logging is greatly handicapped. The various methods of electrical logging are now commonly known in oil industry and have been described in numerous publications ( 1) ( 2) (3).

"The paper outlines the history of rubber mill liners beginning with the awarding of the first North American patent rights in 1923. It includes the early-day applications and installations of the 1920s and 1930s through to their present-day application. Over-all rubber mill liner design is discussed in relation to present day installations employing rubber mill liners in various grinding applications. A brief overview is given of a manufacturer's procedures to produce rubber mill liners.IntroductionIn early 1910, it became apparent that the productive life of the silver mines in Cobalt, Ontario, could be substantially prolonged by mining lower-grade ores.The mining of lower-grade ores required the establishment of treatment facilities which initially employed jaw crushers, stamp mills, jigs and concentrating tables. The recovery of silver in other than a coarse metallic form required the additional step which was introduced at that time: the cyanidation of silver concentrates from the tables. The resultant requirement for increased and improved recovery led to the introduction of grinding mills, i.e. tube mills.Shortly after the introduction of the tube mills to the Nipissing Mine's mill in 1914, the idea of using rubber as a mill liner material was spawned. However, no action was taken due to the advent of World War I. It is interesting to note that the idea of rubber mill liners emanated from having used pieces of solid rubber tire as an emergency repair on a set of liners when a liner had broken and no immediately available spare was on site.The credit for this ingenuity and subsequent application for a patent on rubber mill liners falls to James John Denny, the mill superintendent, and Rolla Barnum Watson, the general manager of Coniagas Mines Limited. The patent application was formally made on December 3, 1921. The U.S. Patent Office issued Patent No. 1,470,597 on October 16, 1923."

A research effort has been undertaken, under WSIB sponsorship, to characterize the support capabilities of conventional and innovative spray-on lining materials for mitigating dynamic failure effects created by simulated rockbursts. Conventional spray support media, such as shotcrete and fibrecrete linings, and a variety of new spray-on lining materials (TSL?s), typically polymer-type thin coatings, were subjected to simulated rockburst influence. For baseline comparison, conventional rockbolt and boltand- mesh support products were also evaluated. Observation of lining performance was undertaken through completion of field scale support and rock detonation trials. Controlled blasting tests were conducted at the Queen?s University Explosives Laboratory to examine the effectiveness of the variety of surface coating agents for modifying dynamic rock spalling processes. All tests were performed upon largely undisturbed and homogeneous rock materials in highly repeatable fashion. Both conventional and innovative TSL-type surface lining materials were subjected to ?rockburst? exposure in rigorously-controlled blast trials. All blasts were observed seismically and photographically to provide detailed information concerning rock motion, surface fracturing, ejected fragment motion and support liner survivability characteristics. These material comparison trials were performed to assess the relative effectiveness of a wide range of currently-available area support techniques for suppressing hazards associated with dynamic rock ejection. The results of this study validates that thin, sprayon linings may be equally as effective, and often better, than conventional support materials at mitigating rockburst or like damage in highly stressed mine environments.

"Ground stresses are one of the significant factors in the context of rockbursts and underground instability at some hard rock mines in Canada. Overcoring strain relief measurements using triaxial strain cells were performed at several mine sites to provide stress data for stability evaluations and mine design. Pre-mining stress determinations carried out at depths between 60 m to 1890 m resulted in the following average stress gradients:Maximum horizontal stress, s Hmax = 8.18 + 0.0422 MPa/m depthMinimum horizontal stress, s Hmin = 3.64 + 0.0276 MPa/m depthAverage horizontal stress, s Ha = 5.91 + 0.0349 MPa/m depthVertical stress, a; = 0.0266 ± 0.008 MPa/m depthThe maximum and minimum horizontal compressive stresses, with an average ratio of J.75 ± 0.45, prevail in east-west and northerly directions, respectively. Horizontal compressive stresses in excess of vertical overburden load were determined, indicating large variations in ratios to a depth of about 1000 m with decreasing trend toward depth.From present data, a particular regional zoning for the magnitude and direction of horizontal stress fields cannot be outlined.A common feature at mines with near vertical orebodies is that the maximum horizontal stress acts perpendicular to strike while the minimum horizontal stress is aligned on-strike. The vertical stress components approach the gravitational overburden load."

"Inherently anisotropic rocks occur in abundance at many rock engineering project sites in Himalayan region. These rocks pose difficulty in analysis and design due to their direction dependent strength behaviour. Moreover the strength varies in a non-linear manner with confining pressure. Mohr- Coulomb strength criterion is widely used by geotechnical engineers for defining strength of rocks subjected to given confining pressure. However, the conventional Mohr-Coulomb (MC) criterion suffers from the limitation that the strength is treated to be linearly dependent on confining pressure. In the present article, the MC criterion has been modified by incorporating non-linear term while retaining the original parameters c and ?. The non-linearity with confining stress level has been imbibed through critical state concept (Barton, 1976). The criterion has been applied to a triaxial test data base comprising of more than 1140 triaxial tests conducted world-wide on anisotropic rocks. Statistical evaluation of the goodness of fit of the proposed criterion to the data-base has been carried out. Further the predictive capabilities have been evaluated by determining the error in estimation of triaxial strength if only few triaxial test data are available for determining the criterion parameters. The data base has also been back-analysed to assess the critical confining pressure for anisotropic rocks. Statistically the critical confining pressure, for the present criterion, may be taken nearly equal to 1.25?cmax, where ?cmax is the maximum value of the UCS out of all orientations of planes of anisotropy. It is concluded that reasonably good estimates of the anisotropic strength are possible through the proposed criterion.INTRODUCTIONMany rocks encountered in Himalayan region like shale, slate, schist and phyllite are inherently anisotropic and exhibit direction dependency in their strength behaviour. In addition, the strength of the rock also depends on the confining pressure and, the strength response is non-linear especially when the confining pressure may vary over large range. Conventionally, Mohr-Coulomb criterion is the most widely used criterion for rocks. However, the limitation of this criterion in its present form is that the strength is treated to be linearly dependent on the confining pressure. The present study attempts to address the following two main objectives: i) Include nonlinear response in the Mohr-Coulomb criterion while retaining parameters c and In their original form; and ii) consider anisotropic response of the rock for a given confining pressure. A nonlinear strength criterion, which uses shear strength parameters c and as per Mohr-Coulomb criterion, has been suggested based on critical state concept for rocks."

The southeastern shores of Great Slave lake present a curious anomaly in geographical and geological exploration, in that an area so large and important, and withal so comparatively accessible, should nevertheless have remained unexplored, unmapped, and indeed almost unknown, until quite recent" times On their return from the famous journey to the mouth of the Coppermine, the band of Indians with whom he travelled led Samuel Hearne across Slave lake. He was the first white man to see that great body of water and it is rather curious that it should have been seen first from the north rather than from the south. Hearne's account of the lake is vague, and he made no attempt ?to map the part through which he travelled. About 30 years later John Franklin, on his first journey to the Arctic, crossed the lake from the mouth of the Slave river to the Yellow Knife river. Franklin's maps show all of his route in accurate detail, except that part of it which lay through Slave lake. In 1833-34, Captain, afterwards Sir George, Back made the first exploration of the eastern end of the lake. Captain Back was then on his way to the Arctic coast by way of the Great Fish river, and his Indian guides led him through Great Slave lake by the route they had followed from time immemorial. This route, partly because of its directness, and partly because of its sheltered character, lay through the great mass of islands in the middle of the lake to the Talthei narrows, and thence along the sheltered north shore with its many coves and harbours. Pere Petitot made extensive journeys in Slave lake as well as other parts of the far north.

"Carbon-in-leach (CIL) and carbon-in-pulp (CIP) processes utilize activated carbon to adsorb solubilized gold for recovery. Due to carbon attrition and non-ideal carbon management, however, some of the gold is lost in carbon fines and to the solution. The carbon attrition mechanism inside CIL/CIP reactors is mainly abrasion-related. This is critical to gold loss since gold loading takes place predominantly in the outer shell of the carbon particles. Thus fine carbon dust has a relatively high gold content and such a small particle size that it cannot be captured with safety screens. The attrition rate depends on ore and carbon characteristics, but it is always proportional to the mixing power intensity. This rate can be minimized by continuous suspension level measurement and control of agitation speed. In addition, a novel tank bottom structure can significantly reduce the required mixing power input compared to a flat bottom tank. A major challenge in carbon management is infrequent and inaccurate measurement of carbon concentration in the reactors. In order to reduce soluble gold losses by means of improved carbon management, Outotec has been developing a continuous in-situ measurement for carbon concentration that is tolerant to changes in slurry density.INTRODUCTION Cyanide leaching has been utilized since the late 19th century as a standard technology for hydrometallurgical gold production. Since then, gold and silver recovery rates have increased due to technological development, but very similar recovery methods are still being used. The original recovery method was to use zinc precipitation – similar to the Merrill-Crowe process, which is still common for feed materials with low throughput and high silver content. However, in most cases, activated carbon recovery is preferred due to its improved efficiency. The carbon-in-pulp process (CIP) and its modification, carbon-in-leach (CIL), have a lower residual soluble gold level and are not similarly affected by soluble base metals. The main alternative for the use of carbon is ion exchange resins. The principle of resin processes is similar to the CIL/CIP processes, with a different type of adsorbent material. Carbon processes are usually preferred over resin processes due to the significantly higher cost of resin material and the possibility to use simpler, well-established technology with carbon processes."

Ferrihydrite is often the initial precipitate resulting from the rapid neutralization of Fe(III) sulphate solutions, and it seems to be a major constituent of zinc plant neutral leach residues. The most important parameters affecting ferrihydrite precipitaton are temperature, solution pH and the neutralization rate. Low temperatures and rapid neutralization rates yield poorly filterable ferrihydrite, whereas higher temperatures and slower neutralization rates produce readily filterable precipitates; in all instances, however, the precipitates are two-line ferrihydrite. Significant amounts of Zn are incorporated in the ferrihydrite precipitates, and the Zn contents increase with increasing Zn concentration, pH or temperature. Generally, the sulphate contents of the precipitates decrease as the Zn contents increase, and this may indicate that the Zn is adsorbed on the ferrihydrite. Discrete Zn phases were not detected. Neither Cd nor Tl is precipitated with ferrihydrite, although thallium jarosite co-precipitates with ferrihydrite at high Tl concentrations and elevated temperatures. Virtually all of the Sn added to the solution precipitates with the ferrihydrite, but the tin is believed to be present as intimately admixed amorphous SnO2.nH2O. Although selenite extensively precipitates with the ferrihydrite, selenate remains mostly in solution, likely because of the close similarity of the SeO4 2- ion to the SO4 2- ion which is present in high concentrations and saturates the available sites for anion adsorption.

"The Noranda Continuous Smelting Process at the Home smelter was commissioned in March 1973. The ability of the process to handle a wide variety of feed materials and a steady stream of technical innovations in recent decades has served to maintain the Home as an efficient and versatile custom smelter. This paper reviews recent technological development and capabilities in areas such as sampling and preparation of secondary and complex materials, as well as the smelting and related environmental control issues. Future trends and improvements are also addressed.IntroductionThe Noranda Home smelter commenced operations in 1927. It was originally designed to treat 910 tonnes per day of copper concentrates and ores coming from the new Home mine site. In the 19305, the company opened its doors to other mines in northwestern Quebec. Treatment of feed materials on a custom basis has, therefore, always been an important factor in the operation of the Home smelter. Throughout the years, the Home gradually increased its custom smelting capacity, while maintaining its production from the Home mine. By the early 1950s, 65% of the materials processed was from outside customers, and by 1974, this figure had increased to more than 85% . With the closure of the Home mine in 1976, the company extended its smelting operations beyond ore and concentrate, and began to treat more scrap metals and residues rich in copper and precious metal content.Corresponding with the ever-changing pattern of feed sources, the Home smelter has adopted technological improvements to meet new and challenging business conditions. The technology of the original smelter of 1927has been completely replaced over the years in the quest for improvement. One of these major changes occurred in 1973 with the start-up of the Noranda Process Reactor. This extremely efficient smelting system has been exploited to treat a wide variety of copper and precious metal (PM) containing custom materials. This paper reviews recent developments and improvements achieved at the Home smelter, in the receiving, sampling and treatments of copper and PM scrap and secondaries, with particular emphasis on the development of new technology and equipment in complex feed materials treatment."

"The Underground Test Facility (UTF) project operated by the Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority (AOSTRA) north of Fort McMurray has achieved marked success in field testing mining access and horizontal well in situ recovery of bitumen from the Athabasca oil sands.Mine access has provided for effective placing and operation of horizontal wells in the oil sands from a tunnel system in the underlying limestone. Performance of the in situ recovery process, Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage, has substantially exceeded forecasts made at the start of the project. Over-all results of the program to date show great promise for horizontal well in situ technology as a competitive source of bitumen from Alberta's vast oil sands deposits. The potential economics of a commercial expansion at the site are reviewed in this paper.IntroductionIn situ recovery o f bitumen from the Athabasca oil sands has puzzled the oil industry for many year s, but a breakthrough appears close at hand. The Underground Test Facility (UTF) project initiated by the Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority (AOSTRA) has had notable success in the piloting of horizontal well processes, which offer prospects for commercial development even under the highly competitive situation facing the Canadian industry . "Recent engineering advances in open pit rock mechanics have resulted in improved pit wall slope design and improved operating procedures in the event of a major wall instability. At the other end of the spectrum, on the scale of single bench failures, considerable discretion is left to the mine operators as to how potential problems are handled. The usual alternatives are either to operate with caution beneath potential hazards, or try to bring the unstable rock down. In specific cases it may be advantageous to attempt to stabilize rock structures for reasons of access and operating safety.A t the Brenda Mines open pit a prominent structure on the north wall had caused recurring bench-scale wedge failures when exposed on each mining level. In spite of operating precautions a shovel was hit by a rockfall causing significant damage. The first section of this paper describes the investigative, design, and stabilization methods which permitted subsequent mining beneath the structure to proceed without incident. Emphasis is placed on the personnel and equipment resources available at the mine site which were used to minimize costs and which would be available at most operating mines.The second section describes an ongoing research project that utilizes radio telemetry to transmit slope monitoring data. As part of this project the wedge structure was instrumented so that it could be continuously monitored with the aid of a computer. The application demonstrated the potential of 'micro- chip' technology to remote data collection and processing as related to rock structure monitoring, slope stability and safety."

The Shortage of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers I N many parts of the Western World attention has recently been drawn to the acute shortage of mining and metallurgical engineers produced by the universities. Naturally, the reasons for this shortage have been discussed, and various remedies for it have been proposed. In this paper, I want to examine some of them. It is now fairly generally ac-cepted among mining men that the easy attractions of modern urban life have left the career of mining in the metaphorical as well as in the literal backwoods. The industry finds it increasingly difficult to recruit adventurous and intelligent young men; for such men now seek their intellectual, if not physical, adventure in more glamorous occupations from a safe social base in suburbia. The salaries, opportunities and security offered by the mining industry do not complete effectively with the rewards offered by other industries and by commerce, taking into account the social disadvantages of a mining life. "Cyclic polarization technique and also potentiodynamic measurements were applied to study corrosion behavior of 13% chromium steels in chloride containing environment. Potentiodynamic measurements were performed at 25 and 75 °C with 0, 10 and 20 g/l NaCl in 0.01 M hydrochloric acid solution. At the same time, the significant pitting parameters such as corrosion potential (Ecorr), pitting potential (Epit), protection potential (Epro) and passive current (Ipass) of cyclic polarization curves with various NaCl concentration were analyzed and compared to describe the corrosion behavior of 13% chromium stainless steel. Surface measurement techniques such as SEM and EDS were used for morphology and analysis of corrosion products. The results showed that both temperature and Cl- concentration had significant effects on corrosion behavior of 13% chromium stainless steel in acidic solution.INTRODUCTION Of all the corrosion resistant alloys (CRA) used in oil and gas developments, martensitic stainless steels (MSS) are some of the most common ones these days. These steels not only have the advantages of normal steels: high strength, cost-effective, easy to manufacture, available in a wide variety of product forms, but they also have good CO2 corrosion resistance at higher temperatures as a result of their 11% minimum chromium content. One of the most common types of MSS used in the oil and gas industry is 13% chromium steel. NACE and API standards both reference several different varieties of 13% chromium steels for use in oil and gas projects(“Corrosion Resistant High Cr Steel for Oil and Gas Wells,” 2013). All types of 13% chromium steels have about 12 to 14% chromium and other minor alloying additions, and can be placed into two general groups: conventional and modified. Conventional 13% Cr steels (13Cr) are those most common in oil and gas, some of which are CA6NM (UNS J91150), AISI 410(UNS S41000), and AISI 420 (UNS S42000). These alloys have excellent corrosion resistance when compared to carbon steels up to about 300°F (150°C) and are used for a variety of wellhead, tubular, and downhole components however they have very limited resistance to cracking in H2S (Vallourec Group, 2015). Modified 13% Cr (M13Cr) steels came from the need for increased corrosion resistance at higher temperatures, increased H2S cracking resistance, and increased yield strength above 85 ksi (586 Mpa) primarily for tubular goods and other downhole equipment. These features were developed by taking a conventional 13Cr steel and adding nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), copper (Cu), and other alloying elements. M13Cr provides better corrosion resistance than 13Cr up to about 350°F (177°C), yield strengths up to 110 ksi (758 Mpa), and also improved H2S cracking resistance(“Corrosion Resistant High Cr Steel for Oil and Gas Wells,” 2013)."

Wellington lies in a seismically active area 150 km from a subduction zone and in the vicinity of several active faults, which poses a risk to its infrastructure and inhabitants. One of these major faults, the Wellington Fault, runs through the centre of the city and across several lifelines, including the natural gas pipeline and the freshwater pipeline. The first settlement in the area was severely damaged in 1848, soon after its establishment, by an earthquake of approximate magnitude Mw 7.4 - 7.5 (Grapes, Little, & Downes, 1998). In 1855, another earthquake of magnitude Mw 8.2 generated by a nearby fault uplifted the eastern part of the current Wellington area and caused several landslides in the surrounding hills (Grapes & Downes, 1997). The Central Business District lies in the area of a sedimentary basin and partly on reclaimed land. Many residential areas, as well as some vital infrastructure, however, lie on or along the slopes in the surrounding hills. The bedrock in the area comprises predominantly the Torlesse greywacke of Permian – Late Triassic age. The greywacke is tilted to a steep angle, intensively faulted and fractured (Cook, 2001). Even though several studies in the past assessed the seismic risk in the area (e.g. Brabhaharan, Hancox, Perrin, & Dellow, 1994), the studies either focussed solely on the area of the sedimentary basin or based their assessment of the hilly terrain purely on slope morphology (slope angle). Previous studies have shown that slope shape and contrasting materials in the slope can amplify earthquake ground motions, such factors are typically called site effects (e.g. Geli, Bard, & Jullien, 1988). Any attempt to systematically quantify the site effects and consequent seismic response of the slopes and use it to predict the consequences of the next large-magnitude earthquake, has not yet been carried out. In this extended abstract we outline the methodology of a PhD research project, focussed on investigating the site effects on the slopes around Wellington and on creating representative numerical models of ‘characteristic’ Wellington slopes and materials. This extended abstract presents the methodology adopted for the assessment using the Te Ahumairangi Hill site as an example.

Many structures in a mine are made of steel including shaft structures (buntons, station steelwork and headgear); stope structures (roof supports, pipe hangers); haulageway structures (ore transfer stations, electrical stubbies); and surface structures (plant buildings, tank supports, pipe gantries, conveyor belts, stacks, stockpile structures, stairways and railings). Maintenance of structural components can often be difficult because of the environment, including those where corrosive fumes persist, or limited access, such as in shafts where access is limited, or to short maintenance shifts or where limited working space is available. Thus a cost-efficient, long-lasting and maintenance-free protection system for steel should be specified. Galvanizing provides the required high-quality, long-term corrosion protection to steel. Galvanizing provides protection in two ways, first as a physical barrier to corrosion and secondly by means of cathodic or sacrificial protection that is unique to zinc. The dual nature of corrosion protection provided by galvanizing significantly extends the service life of steel even in the most challenging environments. The unique corrosion protection properties provided by galvanized steel will be highlighted with global mining application case studies.

"The Mt. Milligan porphyry copper-gold deposits are in central British Columbia, 155 km northwest of Prince George. Mineralized outcrops and float were discovered in the Mount Milligan area by prospecting. The most recent discoveries, which utilized lithogeochemistry, were in 1983. Areas containing the outcrops and float then were investigated by geological mapping, soil and lithogeochemical sampling, ground and airborne geophysical surveys, trenching and diamond drilling. This work led to the discovery of the Mt. Milligan Main deposit in 1987 and the Southern Star deposit in 1989. Extensive diamond drilling continued until 1991 and delineated a measured and indicated resource of 299 million tonnes grading 0.45 g/t Au and 0.22 % Cu from the combined deposits.The Mt. Milligan deposits lie within the Early Mesozoic Quesnel Terrane and are hosted by porphyritic monzonite stocks and adjacent volcanic rocks of the Takla Group. The Mt. Milligan Main deposit is centred around the MBX stock and Rainbow dike, and the Southern Star deposit around the Southern Star stock.Potassic alteration is extensive within the stocks and in volcanic rocks adjacent to the MBX stock and Rainbow dike. Propylitic alteration surrounds the potassic alteration and decreases in intensuy away from the stocks. Mineralization consists mostly of pyrite, chalcopyrite, lesser magnetite, and minor bornite, molybdenite and gold.Mineralogical zoning is well-developed within the deposits. A biotite-rich subzone forms the core of the potassic alteration zone and hosts most of the copper and gold. Numerous polymetallic veins lie within the propylitic alteration zone just beyond the limit of porphyry-style copper-gold mineralization."
