Environmental legislation is changing rapidly throughout Australia at the present time, and with that change comes additional responsibilities for the mining and petroleum industries. Among the many changes that are being made are increased penalties for both criminal and accidental environmental impairment. The defences for criminal offences are limited and for other offences the laws may impose strict liability - in effect the offender is guilty until proven innocent. Mines may be included under contaminated land legislation, creating additional liabilities for clean-up, rehabilitation and long-term management. It is not unknown in Australia for the value of a mortgaged property to be less than the amount of the environmental liability acquired by a mortgagor in possession due to contamination of the site. An essential part of the management program for resource projects is now the regular conduct of an environmental audit, the results of which assist in the management of the legal and financial liabilities facing company directors and managers. The audit can also assist with negotiations with government agencies, staff, unions, insurers, Aboriginal and other community groups. An environmental audit may also help to ensure that companies are claiming the maximum allowable deductions for environmental works under the tax laws, and provide evidence in support of such claims. Environmental legislation affecting resource industries Environmental legislation in Australia is changing rapidly and can impose massive constraints, substantial administrative costs, and considerable liability on directors, managers and the corporation. Pollution control legislation Every State and Territory of Australia has a range of pollution control legislation contained in either individual acts relating to air, water, noise and land, or embodied in a single environment protection act. Pollution control legislation provides a critical management baseline for resource industries throughout Australia, often requiring the full-time attention of an environmental manager or an environmental department. In general, it is an offence to discharge effluents into water, or emit gases into the atmosphere above prescribed limits, cause noise above a regulated level, or contaminate land without a licence. A licence determines how much of a substance can be discharged, the location, the receiving environment, the quality, and the time at which discharges can be made or noise can be caused. Planning legislation Planning legislation controls where a project is located, how it will be constructed and operated, how large it is allowed to be, and what will happen once the project is completed. Development consents or approvals will generally contain a range of conditions controlling the preparation of the site, the construction of the facility and the way it is operated throughout its expected life time. Resource projects may be regarded under legislation as scheduled or designated developments requiring special treatment during the decision-making process. Under planning legislation, it is usual for resource projects to be subject to an environmental impact assessment process. Resource legislation Resource legislation specifically covering mining and petroleum in Australia, also contains requirements regarding protection of the environment during exploration for and extraction of minerals and oil. A mining or petroleum production lease usually contains numerous conditions regarding protection of the environment and rehabilitation of the site during and after the life of the extractive process.

The use of an equivalent continuum for a rock mass is not always suitable for situations where the failure is structurally controlled by discontinuities as in the case of wedges in the tunnel roof. In these instances, discontinuum approaches are usually preferred. Rock joints that are filled with soft infill are likely to be the weakest planes in a rock mass, having a dominant influence on its overall shear behaviour. In this case, the joint material model adopted for the discontinuities should be able to describe important mechanisms, such as asperity sliding and shearing, post-peak behaviour, asperity deformation, and the effect of the soft infilling. The latest version of a soil-infilled joint model is discussed here. It describes more comprehensively than previous models the occurrence of dilation and compression with lateral displacements, and also represents the hardening mechanism related to asperity interference as observed in the laboratory that cannot be readily captured by the existing joint models. An analytical approach for the analysis of rock wedges structurally controlled by soil infilled joints is presented.The analytical approach presented in this paper for assessment of symmetric rock wedges in the roof of a tunnel demonstrates, that the peak shear strength of the joint may not be fully mobilised before detachment of the wedge. The analysis verifi ed that an overestimation of the factor of safety may be observed when an elastic-perfectly-plastic joint model was assumed, whereas the computed maximum factor of safety was considerably less when adopting an appropriate soil-infilled joint model.

In the last 40 years, the froth flotation process widely spread in the paper industry becoming the dominant technology for ink removal from recovered paper slurries and cellulose fibres recovery. Most of current models used to describe the flotation deinking process are based on hydrodynamic and statistical theories of ink particles collision/attachment to air bubbles. The complexity of these theoretical models, together with the variability of the recovered papers composition, does not allow to define a set of æeasy to handleÆ equations to be used for modelling industrial flotation cells. This main limiting aspect makes that, in several deinking process modelling tools, basic parameters used to characterise the flotation unit, ie yield, ink removal efficiency, water loss, are constant parameters. Although in some process simulation tools the flotation yield/efficiency is adapted to process control parameters (air ratio, pulp flow, pulp consistency), physicochemical variables (namely the pulp frothing aptitude, the pulp surface tension and the ink adhesion energy to air bubbles) are not taken into account to adjust the flotation yield/efficiency. Data collected during recent laboratory and pilot plant experiments focusing on the role of surface active substances on the flotation efficiency were therefore interpreted and used to identify general trends that could be described with simple semi-empirical models. A set of model equations using surface tension and froth removal height as main variables was then defined in order to describe the behaviour of a pilot flotation cell. Trends obtained during the dynamic simulation of the deinking pilot plant were in good agreement with experimental data obtained under similar experimental conditions, thus indicating that developed equations can forecast with good approximation the behaviour of a flotation deinking unit.

Transport Canada (Federal Government) constructed the Halifax International Airport (HIA) near Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in the late-1950s. Site location criteria were primarily; direct access to the city and a raised flat topography. Unfortunately, the site chosen was located on shallow Meguma group pyritic slate bedrock. In 1982, during the construction of an airport taxiway, it became very apparent that acidic run-off from excavated bedrock at the site was having a negative impact on adjacent aquatic habitat. The ensuing 20 years involved many efforts to rectify the acidic drainage problem with mixed results. Some of the techniques which have been implemented at HIA to address the acid rock drainage (ARD) issue include: dry covers, wet covers, wetlands, electrochemical treatment, open limestone channels, limestone gravel polishing beds, agricultural limestone application, and two hydrated lime [Ca(OH)2] addition treatment plants, the first producing low density sludge and the new one that creates high-density sludge. Based on over 20 years of water quality monitoring data it is apparent that only certain acid drainage mitigation methods have been effective at HIA. In 2000 when the Halifax International Airport Authority (the Authority) took control of the operation and management of the airport, including the ARD issue, it was decided to construct a modern, highdensity sludge, hydrated lime treatment system. This new $CAN 7 million system is now in operation and is achieving compliance with water quality guidelines. Due to high operating cost, a review of methods to optimise the system is being carried out. The HIA ARD problem, though minor by comparison to most mine sites, has provided unique challenges and may provide valuable insights into this urgent environmental and financial issue.

Jaspilites and underlying basalt contacts of the Archaean volcano- sedimentary Grpo Parß Group, Carajßs, host giant iron mineralisation in the ~100-km long, E-W trending Carajßs fold. Preliminary, unpublished geochronological data point to a Palaeoproterozoic mineralisation event. Geochemically, jaspilites are typical volcanogenic banded iron formations. Basalts exhibit evidence of spilitic seawater interaction. Iron-associated hydrothermal alteration of mafic rocks was induced by fluid infiltration in amygdales, with development of chlorite- and hematite-dominated zones. In the case of jaspilites, iron mineralisation encompasses: partial replacement of jaspilitic microcrystalline hematite by blasts of martitic magnetite; jasper recrystallisation, producing fine-grained, hematite-free granoblastic quartz; martite recrystallisation, forming lobate¦subhedral hematite; pervasive porosity development by quartz-chert leaching; incipient cavity filling by microlamellar hematite; and advanced filling by coarser, euhedral and comb-textured, tabular- shaped hematite.Peak hydrothermal ore textures indicate typical epithermal-crust conditions, supported by preliminary fluid-inclusion calculations at 160 - 200¦C. Such temperatures and extreme fluid-to-rock ratios during alteration must have exceeded the ambient metamorphic conditions, with the infiltrating fluid relatively hot and capable of leaching SiO2. Therefore, mineralisation developed over exhumed, Archaean, brittly deformed rocks, with mineral associations representative of very low- to low-grade metamorphism. Considering that chlorite (¦talc) abounds in mafic rocks; hydrothermal albite is developed; dolomite fills veins and vugs; the typical rare-earth-element (REE) pattern of jaspilites is significantly modified in higher-grade hard hematite ores (higher LREE); pyrite, copper sulfide minerals and rare gold occur in association with carbonate-quartz-rich alteration zones, it is suggested that an alkaline, H2O-Fe-CO2 mineralising fluid dominated, also containing species like S¦Cu¦Au. Peak-mineralising conditions are likely to have resulted from a single, evolving fluid, via incipient- through advanced-stage alteration phases. The porous, high-grade soft hematite-type ore (SH), rich in microlamellar and anhedral hematite, must have derived from interaction with this relatively hot SiO2-leaching fluid, whereas the high-grade massive hard hematite-type ore (MH) developed due to closer fluid-rock temperature equilibrium conditions, attained by mineral reactions, with relative increase in the Fe/Σcations ratios allowing the precipitation of subhedral-tabular hematite that partially cements the soft-hematite ore. SH and MH hematite ore types must thus reflect intermediate and high fluid:rock ratios, respectively. Since the N5 deposit is to date understood to contain the largest amount of the MH ore, its units are interpreted as the loci of the highest fluid:rock ratios in the district. Preliminary mineralogical information regarding the S11 deposit of the Serra Sul (south range) implies higher-temperature conditions. The near-equant grain size and the granoblastic intergrain relationship, coupled with the presence of riebeckite, augitic pyroxene and garnet, suggest hornfels textures. The data collected, though still relatively sparse, permit the speculation that the immense driving force for the Carajßs world-class iron deposits was a relatively shallow, igneous-related hydrothermal system. If such a model is correct, then the Carajßs Palaeoproterozoic iron deposits could represent an end-member of the iron oxide-copper-gold hydrothermal system in the province.

Waste waters from mine sites may be screened for all constituents of significance as a first step in establishing water quality criteria for protection of aquatic ecosystems. Inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) offers the capability to screen water samples and digest solutions for virtually all elements in the periodic table. This technique is therefore able to identify elements whose concentrations are elevated in waste waters and may be rarely present in background surface or ground waters. Such elements may be present in waters at only a few ¦g/L. ICP-MS has sufficient sensitivity to detect sub-¦g/L or even ng/L levels of many elements. Waste waters from most mining activities in the Northern Territory have been examined by ICP-MS. The concentration data provide the basis of a contaminant data base. The data can show specific tracers in the ore or mineral itself, subsequently found in waste water. An example is the presence of rhenium in uranium ore. Such trace elements may be present in soluble or insoluble chemical forms and are more useful as indicators when soluble and exemplifying conservative chemical behaviour. The approach described, based on ICP-MS screening of mine site waste waters, together with general physico-chemical variables, provides the most comprehensive means yet available of selecting variables for monitoring programs and ensures that key elements and/or their chemical species are not excluded from monitoring programs.

In order to understand the technique, basic theoretical principles of radiation emission and in- strumentation theory are reviewed. Methods of surveying, reduction of data and interpretation are outlined. Other applications of the technique (e.g. in airborne geological mapping), as well as its specific use in uranium exploration, are discussed. By means of case history-type examples the successful applicant of gamma-ray spectrometry, as a tool in Australian mineral search, is demonstrated.

Bendigo is AustraliaÆs second-most productive goldfield, having produced some 22 million ounces of gold between 1851 and 1954. Bendigo Mining Limited (BML), the sole lease-holder of the Bendigo Goldfield, is developing a mine that is planned to produce ore from beneath the historical workings for at least the next 25 years. The high-grade Bendigo reefs occur in the proximity of the chevron anticlines, which characterise the goldfield. Typically the reefs display relatively small cross-sectional areas and large (subhorizontal) strike dimensions. They occur in clusters due to interrelated structural controls. Most of the gold occurs as visible grains and laminae, and as such grade estimation is not amenable to ænormalÆ sampling and estimation techniques. The initial phases of exploration and development of the mine focused on understanding and resolving these sampling and estimation issues. In 2005, BML reviewed and updated the March 2004 Feasibility Study, refining the life of mine development strategy. The strategy fundamentally aims to exploit the 11 million ounce Inferred Resource and additional exploration potential by developing the current Kangaroo Flat Mine to produce ore at an initial rate of 450 000 t/yr in 2006/07, expanding to 600 000 t/yr by 2009/10; and developing the Eaglehawk Mine to produce 1 Mt/yr by 2011/12. Ore will be processed initially at the Kangaroo Flat site, and from 2011/12 also at the Eaglehawk Mine 1 Mt/yr processing plant. The two mines will connect underground in 2009. Total ore treatment capacity will be 1.6 Mt/yr, producing 600 000 oz/yr from a head grade of 12.7 g/t gold. The project is planned to operate for 25 years, processing 33.6 Mt of ore producing 13.7 Moz of gold. To achieve this production rate, the exploration and ore delineation programs will require up to 16 diamond drill rigs producing over 200 km of core per year. At the same time, approximately 8 km of on-reef development must be monitored and typically 18 stopes managed concurrently. The processing plants will be located in geographically constrained areas, which will limit the ability for selective stockpiling and campaign treatment.

A well-maintained and low cost mining operation today requires the use of condition monitoring techniques. At ERA - Ranger Mine oil analysis, vibration monitoring, infra-red themtography, and performance analysis have been successfully applied over the last four years to lower operating and maintenance costs. All condition monitoring is scheduled through a comprehensive in-house developed maintenance management system known as the Engineering Information System (EIS). (EIS) is used extensively at Ranger to ensure consistent frequency and recording .of all condition monitoring data. This paper provides an insight into the benefits of condition monitoring and explores the future direction for condition monitoring techniques at Ranger.

Premier Diamond Mine is planning a new, mechanised, block cave, with a production level approximately 1000 m below surface. A high degree of tunnel damage is expected, due to stress and the relatively low in situ strength of kimberlite. An evaluation of the timing of tunnel excavation, tunnel size and spacing has been carried out to define critical parameters for planning layouts and development schedules. Extensive use has been made of three-dimensional FLAC3D numerical models, calibrated against known rock mass behaviour at 650 m depth, to examine the influence of undercut advance on production level excavations. These were able to represent the effect of stress rotation on tunnels during undercut advance and the effect of an inclined undercut. The analysis has provided guidelines that are possibly applicable to any deep block cave layout. The choice of drawpoint layout is of considerably less significance than the proportion of ground extracted on the production level elevation prior to advancing the undercut. The analysis shows that damage to production development will be potentially severe if it is all excavated prior to advancing the undercut, or is mined directly beneath the undercut face. The development of the main production tunnels alone ahead of the undercut may be feasible, but no breakaways should be put in as they appear to trigger a rapid increase in the severity of damage. The optimal sequence is when all production tunnels are developed at least 10 m in plan behind the undercut, where the induced peak field stress is less than 20 MPa and a maximum support pressure of 100 to 500 kN/m2 is require to contain movement. The assessment showed that the conditions are not significantly improved by increasing drawpoint spacing from 15 m to 18 m. The vertical spacing between the undercut and production level beneath is investigated. Provided production level development is carried out beneath the undercut, there would appear to be little benefit in increasing the vertical spacing between the undercut and production level beyond the current 15 m to 18 m.

Mine site rehabilitation generally includes the re-shaping of overburden to create a final landform, manipulation of substrates and subsequent revegetation. Due to the wide range of environmental variables that influence rehabilitation progression, having clearly-stated final land-use goals and ongoing significant contributions to the planning process, from prefeasibility through to mine closure, is essential for achieving stable landforms and sustainable rehabilitated communities. Two examples of rehabilitation processes in the phosphate rich region of North West Queensland are used to illustrate some of the possible benefits of early planning and communication of rehabilitation requirements.Approximately 160 km south of Mount Isa, Incitec Pivot Limited operates a 35 year old open cut mine at Phosphate Hill. Monitoring of rehabilitation areas and selected analogue sites is undertaken annually, but the initial landform design, substrate management and species selection has created a difficult environment for revegetated areas to successfully establish. Constant management input (such as weed management, erosion control, supplementary seeding, etc) will, therefore, be required over a long time frame.The second example uses exploratory drilling and historic costean pits at Legend International HoldingÆs Paradise South site, 135 km north of Mount Isa, to determine the success of natural vegetation colonisation on waste rock and compacted soils, and the effects of cattle grazing on recolonisation. This information can be used by planners of the mine life to inform possible end-land use decisions and proposed completion criteria.In a semi-arid environment such as North West Queensland, the creation of a post-mine landscape suitable for nature conservation and/or grazing can be an arduous task. The input from environmental personnel at all stages of the mining process will positively impact upon the quality of the resulting rehabilitation and ensure undesirable legacy issues are minimised.CITATION:Gillespie, M J and Erskine, P D, 2012. Pintail Systems, Inc, a Colorado USA based company has developed and commercially applied bioremediation processes for biological detoxification of cyanide compounds in mine waste. Site-specific microorganisms are isolated from spent ore, tailings or process solutions and augmented in the laboratory for cyanide oxidation, denitrification and metal biomineralisation. Biological processes typically treat complex contaminants (cyanide compounds, soluble metals and nitrates) in a fraction of the time of conventional remediation processes. Cyanide is used in microbial metabolic processes as a carbon or a nitrogen source. Biological detoxification processes applied at the end of mine life can end long-term liability and perpetual monitoring and containment. Case studies from commercial application and demonstration programs for the US Environmental Protection Agency will be presented in this paper.

The iron ore district of Gol-e-Gohar (GEG) is located 60 km south-west of the city of Sirjan, in the Kerman Province of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Six exploration targets have been identified and iron ore has been mined from one area with dry and wet concentrate products sold. Prior to mining commencing in 1999, the proven reserves were estimated at 265 million tonnes (Mt) in 2004 and 40 Mt of 100 Mt overburden has since been mined. Of the six exploration targets, the largest anomaly in the GEG district is Deposit No 3. This paper discusses economic considerations focusing on mine extraction and construction of a concentration and pelletising plant to process ore from Deposit No 3 of GEG. Planned capacity of 10 Mt product (concentrate and pellet) per year is targeted to commence in 2011, and nominal capacity by 2014. The economical evaluation and analysis is one of the most important stages in the feasibility study of mine development. Financial calculations including the provision of financial resources, operation period revenue, loss and profit statement, cash flow, net cash flow, internal rate of return and net present value have been undertaken as part of the feasibility study. The feasibility study operating plan assumes a large open pit mine containing proven reserves of approximately 250 Mt. The feasibility study assumed an economic return of $80 per tonne iron pellet. The economic study determined that Deposit No 3 of GEG can be economically developed by open pit mining followed by magnetite separation and flotation to generate iron concentrate and pellets.

The professional skills shortage is intensifying, and commentators are predicting a shortfall in supply of qualified professionals for the mining industry, ranging from thousands to tens-of-thousands by 2020 (Tuckwell, 2011; Scoble, 2011; Laurence and Hebblewhite, 2011). Human resources are already stretched, and university graduates arriving in the workplace are often moved rapidly into management positions where there is limited scope to develop their engineering proficiency. This process may well be developing excellent young managers, but our industry is producing fewer excellent young engineers (Munro and Tilyard, 2009). Many believe that it is engineering excellence that is likely to be the key to our industryÆs success in the decade to come. An innovative in-house graduate development program has been created by specialists at the JK Centre in partnership with two mining companies. This program, known as MetSkill«, has been running throughout 2012. Groups of graduates have had to identify a process plant optimisation opportunity and embark on a structured program of data collection and analysis, facilitated by a æteaching teamÆ of researchers and consultants from the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) and JKTech. This group project culminates in a report-back session to senior company officials. Along the way, a series of short workshops and other activities provide opportunities to work on specialist skills, and support is also offered by senior technical specialists from the companies involved.This paper outlines key features of the MetSkill« program, along with a report-card on progress in 2012 and plans for further program development in 2013.CITATION:Drinkwater, D and Bianco, N, 2012. Stream diversions are a common feature of mine sites worldwide. From an operational perspective, a fundamental requirement of a stream diversion is that it should convey water flows between two points in a safe, controlled and predictable manner. On the other hand, rivers and waterways are naturally dynamic systems, and many of their natural values are achieved through their ability to alter their forms and processes over time in response to flow events - often in a potentially unsafe, uncontrolled and unpredictable manner. In order to ensure that diverted river reaches achieve the dual objectives of short-term operational stability and longer term physical equilibrium with surrounding landscapes, alteration of form and process must somehow be understood and incorporated into the design process. However, performance targets for waterways are not always easy to define and assessing what is good and bad in such variable systems can be difficult. This paper discusses the role of the stream diversion from the operational, environmental and regulatory/relinquishment perspectives, and how stream diversions must achieve physical stability in the short-term, but dynamic equilibrium in the long-term.CITATION:Markham, A, 2012. Frequency of reports on premature failure of rock bolts and cable bolts have increased in past two decades. Such a failure threatens both the safety of underground mine workers and the economic viability of the operations. Herein, we report on analysis of rock bolts and cable bolts failed recently in three underground mines in Australia. Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques were used to study the failed bolts. MPI showed a number of subcritical cracks on the surface of the bolts. The majority of the cracks in both cable bolts and rock bolts were initiated from the base of ribs (indentation) where the stress concentration was high. SEM examinations showed tearing topography surface (TTS) in all failed rock bolts and cable bolts. These indicated that the failure occurred through hydrogen assisted stress corrosion cracking (HISCC). Background BHP Iron Ore Pty Ltd is one of the major iron ore producers in the Pilbara Region of North Western Australia. The company manages three separate joint ventures; the Newman, Goldsworthy and Yandi joint ventures and two 100 per cent owned operations, Yampi and Jimblebar. The Newman operations constitute a mine site at Newman and a 426 km railroad to Port Hedland where there is an ore processing/port site. The Goldsworthy operations currently constitute a mine site at Shay Gap/Nimingarra, a developing mine site at Yarrie, a decommissioned mine site at Goldsworthy and an ore processing/port site at Finucane Island (Port Hedland). The Yandi operations include mining and processing facilities at site and a spur line to join the Newman Hedland railroad. Jimblebar operations are scree and bedrock mining near Newman and include mining, processing and a spur line to Newman where it joins the Newman-Hedland railroad. The Yampi operations constitute a mine/port site at Koolan Island (which is presently being decommissioned). The combined BHP Iron Ore operations produce approximately 46 Mtpa of iron ore. This paper will concentrate on the processes developed and applied for the decommissioning of the Goldsworthy site. The Goldsworthy site is on the northern boundary of the Pilbara Region and adjacent to the western extremity of the Great Sandy Desert. It is located approximately 110 km east of Port Hedland (see Figure 1). The area is generally of low relief with isolated low ranges. The mine site being within the Mount Goldsworthy range area. The geology of the area is essentially Archaean granite with Archaean banded iron formation becoming dominant within the ranges. The chief soils are hard alkaline red soils. The vegetation is essentially shrub steppe with the main hummock grass species being spinifex (Triodia sp). The climate for the region is semi arid tropical. The temperature ranges from a mean low of 15¦C in winter to a mean high of 40¦ in summer. Rainfall is episodic, occurring mainly throughout the summer as a result of tropical depressions or cyclonic activity. The average annual rainfall is approximately 300 mm and annual evaporation may exceed rainfall by up to 2500 mm. Goldsworthy Mining Ltd commissioned the Goldsworthy site in 1965/66. Goldsworthy was the first iron ore operation and associated town site in the Pilbara region. The mine development peaked in 1977 with the town population reaching 1400 people. In 1982 mining ceased and the mining operations were relocated to Shay Gap, 80 km east of Goldsworthy. The Goldsworthy town continued as the base for the railing operations between Finucane Island and Shay Gap. BHP Minerals acquired Goldsworthy Mining Limited in 1990. The population for the town of Goldsworthy at this stage was around 450 people. Design and construction techniques used to develop two highway tunnels in inaccessible mountainous terrain are described. Measures used to adapt the design to the unusual geology and topography are discussed, as well as measures to adapt the construction methods to available equipment, materials, and skills. Sharp local variations in geoloqic conditions resulted in field modifications to both design and construction techniques. The geology is a volcanic ash and breccia-agglomerate at one site, a jointed andesite at the other, which is also the site of a major landslide. Both rock reinforcement in the form of pretensioned and grouted rock bolts with a shotcrete lining,and rock support by struc- tural steel sets with a reinforced concrete lining were used. A canyonside location and high lateral in-situ stresses required modification of design procedures. Pilot tunnels at both sites resulted in adapting the designs to site conditions with large savings in lining costs, disclosing problem areas in advance of the main excavation, and cushioning of blasting pressure to minimize stability problems.

In classical drill and blast underground mining methods, especially narrow vein operations economic quantities of broken ore can be left behind following normal mucking operations on the stope floors. The ore left behind can have significant economic value and if not collected can be lost forever. This paper reviews techniques for cleaning this material from stopes that have been used in the past and reviews possible modern techniques that can be applied to ensure this valuable material is removed from the stopes.
