Analysis of seed numbers present in topsoils (a grazed area, an ungrazed area, and two stockpiles) indicated that seeds of the most prevalent colonizers (e.g., Kochia scoparla, Setaria virdis, and Salsolo collins) were not present in the topsoil upon respreading but rather appeared by immigration from the surrounding areas. The grazed site had a seed density of over 7,700 seeds m-2 (of which 43% were from weedy species) and the ungrazed site had 3,900 seeds m-2 (of which 7% were weeds); the stockpiled topsoils had very low seed densities (255 and 520 seeds m-2). Seed densities and diversity decreased with depth on both the grazed and ungrazed sites; this was especially true on the grazed site where 94% of the seeds were found in the surface 7.5 cm. Several species were present in the seed bank (e.g., Hedeoma hispida, Artemesia ludoviciana, A. frigida, and A, abslnthlum) which were also found on the three and four year old mined sites in the aboveground vegetation survey. Seeds from these species may germinate after several years of dormancy, thereby starting populations on mined sites and enhancing plant diversity. Seed bank analysis was also undertaken on mined sites ranging in age of 2 to 6 years (plus an unmined site). Mined site seed densities ranged from 1630 to 3980 seeds m-2, with the four year old site having the greatest density (largely because of high Melilotus spp. populations); unmined site and stockpiled topsoil sample had lower seed densities. A significant positive correlation between total viable seed content and soil-water saturation percentage indicated that soil texture may influence seed viability/ dormancy (the. finer the material, the higher the seed population). As with the previous part of this study (and other studies), there was a poor correlation between the aboveground flora and the belowground seed composition.

The Juneau Gold Belt portion of the Juneau Mining District has historically had the greatest mining and exploration activity within the district. Between 1880 and 1983, the mines within the Juneau Gold Belt produced 6.7 MM oz gold, 3.1 MM oz silver, and 45 MM lbs lead, which had a total value of about $157,000,000 at the time of production. This report summarizes Bureau of Mines work completed in 1986, the second year of the Juneau Mining District study. Fifty mines, prospects, and occurrences were examined and 638 samples were collected for analysis during 1986. Metallurgical samples were collected from seven deposits and preliminary tests of cyanide amenability have been completed for five of these. The simultaneous discovery by private industry and the Bureau of gold-bearing quartz veins cutting diorite gneiss recently exposed by the retreat of the Herbert Glacier is the most notable result of work during 1986. This location yielded gold values up to 7 oz/st.

This report is volume 5 of an eleven-volume final report for a Grant completed by The Pennsylvania State University for the Bureau of Mines to develop a dynamic general purpose computer simulation model for underground coal mining. The simulator developed under the Grant has a wide range of possible applications in the design and evaluation of underground coal mining systems from the standpoints of health and safety, productivity, and mine environment. The Master Design Simulator consists of nine free-standing function-oriented subsystem models linked together into an integrated, comprehensive model of an entire mining system. The subsystems comprising the Master Design Simulator include geology and reserves, methane generation, roof support, subsidence, production, rail haulage, cost, water generation, and ventilation. This volume of the final report describes the Subsidence subsystem of the Master Design Simulator. This subsystem uses the finite element method to simulate ground movement caused by an advancing mining face in an underground coal mine. The model is structured around the concept that the ground mass is a layered media of different thicknesses and material properties. Gob areas are considered to be unfilled with broken rock at the beginning of mining. After mining starts, the gob areas are filled with broken material which provides resistance to the lowering of the overlying strata. The model is tied to the Geology and Reserves subsystem, but it can also operate as a free standing routine. A case study is presented illustrating the application of the model. A detailed user's manual, including a program listing, is included in the appendices.

The pile foundation designer typically performs a subsurface exploration program and static pile capacity calculations before selecting a pile foundation type, length, and capacity. During construction, a pile installation criterion must be established to meet these design requirements. This installation criterion usually consists of a minimum penetration resistance or blow count to confirm pile capacity and may also include a minimum embedment requirement. This text will focus on use of wave equation analysis and dynamic measurements to meet design requirements. Marble deposits of dolomitic variety are available in large quantities in India and for extracting these deposits diamond wire saw cutting machine is mainly used. Cutting performance of the diamond wire saw machine depends on rock parameters, machine parameters and operational parameters. Rock parameters related to physico-mechanical properties, such as, compressive strength, tensile strength, shear strength, modulus of elasticity and abrasion resistance of marble play role in determining cutting rate and beads wear rate. Thus, this study was undertaken to determine the relationship between different physico-mechanical properties and cutting performance. This work also aimed at enhancing the cutting performance of diamond wire saw in dolomitic marble deposit. Study was conducted in the field at three different zones having deposit of soft, medium hard and hard dolomitic marble. During the study, cutting rates and wearing of diamond beads were recorded in the field. Physico-mechanical properties were determined in the laboratory. The results obtained were subsequently evaluated by using statistical analysis. Study revealed that these properties of marble play a significant role in the performance of diamond wire saw machine. Predictive equations for the wearing of diamond beads and cutting rate were developed based on regression models. Results of this study will be of ample use for operators of wire saw to achieve maximum cutting performance and for manufacturers in designing the diamond beads.

OHSAS 18001 is a series of international standards for occupational health and safety management. It is comprised of two parts, 18001 and 180029. OHSAS 18001 was formulated by international certifying bodies and is based on BS8800 and was first published in 19996,11. OHSAS 18001 was developed to be compatible with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in order to facilitate integration of quality, environment, and occupational health and safety management systems5. It is a voluntary standard and the overall aim of OHSAS 18001 is to enable organizations to control their occupational health and safety (OH&S) risks and improve overall health and safety performance5. OHSAS 18001 is widely accepted in the UK, Europe, and Asia, is gaining momentum in North and South America, and it was used as the basis and conforms to the requirements of ANSI/AIHA Z.10-2005: American National Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. It defines a set of requirements for an occupational health and safety management system suitable for any kind and size of organization4. Businesses of all sizes are developing and implementing occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) that are in compliance with the OHSAS 18001 standard.

This paper deals with the significance of Explosive Energy in the optimization of blast design parameters, and the benefits emerging out of it. It is based on the original work done by the author in developing and successfully implementing a site-specific software package on ‘Blast Design Optimization’ at Kudremukh Iron Ore Mine in India with a production level of 22.5 million tonnes of crude ore and off-take of Explosives of approximately 5500 tonnes per annum. The software package has yielded tangible results in effecting reduction in Explosive Consumption, substantial savings in the Cost of Explosive, besides Environmental Improvements by way of attenuation of Blast Induced Ground Vibrations as well as Air-Blasts. By carrying out regular ‘Regression Analysis’, and determination of the Rock Constants, it has been possible to further develop software packages as well as prediction curves for prediction of Peak Particle Velocity, Safe Charge of Explosive, Air-Blasts etc. A model has also been developed for the prediction of ‘Fly Rock’ although at KIOCL, fly rock does not pose any problem.

Keywords: Pyrometallurgy, furnace, calcium carbide, acetylene, Newcastle The manufacture of calcium carbide in Newcastle, South Africa, was started in the late 1950s by a company called South African Carbide, at the Ballengeich site. In 1978, this operation was bought by the forerunner to the present AECI Ltd, a large producer of commodity chemicals at the time. Production continued at this site until 1992. In the meantime, Karbochem, an operating division of Sentrachem Ltd, was also manufacturing carbide in Newcastle, as a building block for the manufacture of synthetic rubber. In 1990, the Karbochem calcium carbide operation was closed down. In 1992, the AECI carbide business and the Karbochem production facility were amalgamated, and production continued under the Karbochem name. In 1997, the Dow Chemical Company bought the holding company of Karbochem, and the carbide business continued operations until 2003. In June 2003, the business was sold to a management consortium as SA Calcium Carbide (Pty) Ltd. Later, in October 2004, 100% of the shares were acquired by the Andina Group. Today, the Andina Group, consisting of SACC from South Africa, CIL from UK, and ANDINA from Argentina, has become a global leader in the manufacture and supply of calcium carbide and calcium silicon, ferro silicon 75% and derivatives, recarburizers with low nitrogen content, acetylene, carbon black, micro-silica, and silicon metal. The production facilities at Newcastle comprise a 52 MVA submerged arc furnace of a closed design, carbon monoxide gas recovery, recovery of fine raw materials via a hollow electrode system, and an extensive computer-controlled process. These all enable an efficient state-of-the-art operation. The downstream processing facilities consist of screening and drumming facilities, milling facilities, an acetylene generation plant, and an acetylene carbon black plant. Clearly, SA Calcium Carbide (Pty) Ltd has a long history of supplying quality calcium carbide to the industries that it proudly serves.

Approximately 90% of all potash produced is employed as a fertilizer, either directly or with nitrogen and phosphorus. The remaining 10% is utilized in the manufacture of other chemical products, The original source of potassium was wood ash (hence the name potash), However, today the term potash refers to all commercially important salts of potassium. Sylvite, usually found associated with halite, is the predominant economic potash mineral; carnallite a lesser important source of potassium chloride, while langbeinite is important as a source of potassium sulphate. The world's first potash mining operation commenced in Strassfurt, Germany about 1860, Since that time the industry has grown steadily to its present annual volume of about 30, 000, 000 tons of potassium chloride products or 18, 000, 000 tons of K2O equivalent, potassium chloride or "muriate of potash" being equivalent to 63. 1% pure K2O, WORLD POTASH RESERVES ARE NOT EVENLY DISTRIBUTED The earth's crust contains 2 to 3 per cent potassium, mostly in the form of insoluble silicate minerals. The economically important deposits, however, are formed from brines concentrated by evaporation. The world's most important commercial deposits are of Devonian and Permian age, however soluble potassium bearing salts are presently being concentrated by evaporation in several drainage basins, notably Searles Lake, California, Great Salt Lake, Utah' and in the Dead Sea. At least twenty-four countries are known to have reserves of potash: Canada and the USSR have over 80% of the presently known world reserves, (Figure 1)

ONE OF THE many services rendered by the Federal Bureau of Mines is the identification and general examination of ore and mineral samples. Many of these, coming from almost every State in the Union, are clay and shale samples. Other Government agencies, State geologists, universities, and other laboratories are often requested to make similar examinations. This publication describes methods of testing these samples. An earlier paper, published in 1943, described Bureau of Mines methods of testing such clays.3 This paper was to be followed later with another (part II) that would describe much more thorough testing than did the rather general outline of part I. Part I has been out of print for some time and needs revision, and part II was never written; hence, the present publication is designed to include part I and also those additions intended as part II. The tests presented in part I were simple, requiring only the ordinary equipment to be found in any good chemical laboratory. The second publication was to include a greater number of test procedures and information on increasing the accuracy and precision of those previously given.

Timber support of mine openings continues to be an effective system for ground support, due to its avail¬ability, flexibility, and ease of installation. Timber support of mine openings as a primary method to support loose rock has been replaced to a large extent by rockbolting and by filling systems. How¬ever, the many designs of square-set timber and varia¬tions of crib and stull support that have been developed to suit many stope configurations have proven reliable over many years of application. Integrated in modern excavation and stoping methods, timber remains an im¬portant ground support material for today's mines. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF TIMBER SYSTEMS Timber, when used as a part of the total support system, is recognized for its unique support properties. More than a cover to prevent minor falls of ground, timber systems have been carefully designed to provide adequate support with sufficient compressive qualities to achieve a safe working environment in extremely diffi¬cult ground conditions. In some cases, a timber support method is designed to yield while retaining its protec¬tive support qualities. Little or no initial investment in equipment or plant is required for incorporating timber into the mining support system. Low cost cutoff saws and portable chain saws are sufficient equipment for effective use of dimen¬sioned (sawed) or round (stull) timber support. Until recently, small sawmills of various complexity were com¬mon at mine surface plants. Sawmills at the mine sites have generally been replaced by timber vendors' mills. Suppliers have been able to use efficient cutting and lumber handling methods to reduce the cost of mine timbers. Most suppliers will package dimensioned mine timber into bundles that are suitable for handling down mine shafts and on level conveyances. The principal disadvantage of timber as a support method is higher material cost and labor cost associated with its labor-intensive installation. Furthermore, stand¬ing timber reserves of mine quality wood are in short supply in some areas, and heavy competition exists for alternative uses of the timber supplies. Vendors are reluctant to supply large cross section dimension tim¬bers relatively free of defects. Some mine operations require 4.8-m (16-ft) lengths of firm timber over 0.09 m2 (144 sq in.) in section and these are difficult to obtain in large quantities. APPLICATION OF TIMBER FOR MINE SUPPORTS Timber used in mine support has been cut from many species of trees. A firm hardwood with physical properties similar to western Douglas fir has been pre¬ferred in the US. Other harder and softer woods, how¬ever, have been used when readily available or where the specific strength or crushing quality of the wood is a desired specification of the support system design. Hard¬ wood, commonly oak, has been used where maximum crushing resistance is required. Mahogany and fir are widely used for shaft guide timber. Normally, timber is used with its core axis parallel to the long axis of the timber dimension. However, in some cases, it is placed normal to its core in a "butt" log position, so as to provide maximum resistance to abrasion of the ore passage adjacent to the cut end of the block. By selective placement of timber block¬ing, controlled resistance to ground closure can be achieved which will prevent early failure of primary sup¬port members of the timber structure. Timber is widely used in modern mining operations as a construction member for chute-lip support. These designs are tailored to each operation to conform to the dimensions of the haulage equipment being used. As a construction material, wood requires none of the spe¬cial equipment necessary for placement of concrete or steel support. Placement of these alternate support ma¬terials requires carefully dimensioned and engineered excavation for their installation. Wood can be easily sawed to fit on location. The successful use of timber in heavy ground de¬pends on the careful and accurate placement of block¬ing and bracing to achieve the controlled yielding re¬sistance needed to support the mine opening. Similarly, frequency, size, and placement of top and bottom block¬ing stulls in flat-bedded deposits are carefully determined to provide adequate support at the mining face. Con¬trolled caving through failure of the stulls may be required as the scope retreats from the earlier mined-out sections. The support program must achieve both of these dimensionless qualities by specification of stull frequency and size. The utility of the square set-system of ground sup¬port and timber support is described in Chap. 2, re¬printed from US Bureau of Mines Information Circular 6691. Four examples of effective use of timber for support of stoping and other mine openings are pre¬sented in other chapters in this section. The Gilman mine's use of Mitchell slice stoping described in Chap. 3 is an early modification of the square-set mining system. This application proved reli¬able for heavy ground and overcame some of the dis¬advantages of conventional square-set timber. Chap. 4 describes the Burgin mine's use of timber with other reinforcement material. This combination of materials achieved high strength and control with yielding com¬ponent members necessary for heavy, squeezing ground. Chap. 5 describes the Bunker Hill mine's use of square¬set timber in a new configuration that provides an effi¬cient and safe support for stoping using small load¬haul-dump (LHD) mobile equipment. "This paper describes the recent pilot-plant work carried out on two alternative processes capable of producing an effluent containing less than 10 pCi/L total radium-226 activity and very close to 3 pCi/L dissolved radium-226. The processes incorporate coprecipitation of radium with barium sulphate by the addition of barium chloride in continuously stirred tank reactors followed by either chemical coagulation with ferric chloride, flocculation and clarification, or polymer-aided dual-media filtration. IntroductionUranium mines in Canada have practiced radium removal from tailings basin effluents since 1965. Treatment consists of addition of barium chloride to precipitate radium as barium- radium sulphate and provision of natural or constructed settling ponds for sedimentation. This process, however, has been identified as being deficient in that it allows particulate or suspended radium-226 releases which are higher than the regulated dissolved values». Also, the large size of some of the settling ponds is believed to represent a real limitation of the present technology because of inferred difficulty in recovery of barium-radium sulphate precipitates.The Federal Government Mining Task Force established a Radioactivity Sub-Group in 1974 to assist in the development of effluent regulations and guidelines for the uranium mining industry. Among the recommendations of the Sub-Group was the need to seek more effective methods of radium removal, including development of physical/chemical treatment systems as an alternative to settling ponds. In response to the SubGroup recommendations, a bench-scale study began in March 1976at the Wastewater Technology Centre (WTC) of Environment Canada . The results of this study indicated that coagulation and flocculation of the precipitate from barium chloride addition is a viable alternative to sedimentation in settling ponds(3). The bench work was expanded and accelerated in 1977, with financial assistance provided by the Atomic Energy Control Board. Subsequently, a research program with a larger scope was developed; this program is jointly managed and funded by government and industry, as shown in Table I.One of the goals of the joint program is to develop, at pilot scale, a physicalI chemical process to reduce the radium-226 content of uranium mining and milling effluents. Target radium-226 activities for treated tailings basin effluents were set: namely, 10 pCil L total and 3 pCil L dissolved radium 226. Extensive bench-scale and pilot-scale work was conducted through 1978 and 1979 and has culminated in the development of two physical/chemical processes. This paper describes work carried out at a pilot plant which led to the selection of the two physical I chemical processes for demonstration. In short-term tests, the processes produced effluents meeting the radium-226 target activities."

The enormous deposits of greensand in New Jersey and elsewhere in the United States, many of them close to important octant industrial centers, constitute a perpetual challenge for research chemists to convert them into a commercial asset of national importance. Following the introduction of more concentrated fertilizers, comprising synthetic mixtures of more soluble salts, the quantity of greensand used directly upon the soil has diminished, but deposits of such material still have at least potential value locally for use not only as fertilizer but also as a water softener. An annotated bibliography of the already extensive Literature on greensand, virtually complete to about the end of 1929, has been issued by the Bureau of Mines3/, and the commercial aspects as well as the technology of greensand utilization are discussed in available publications, The purpose of the present circular, therefore, is merely to provide a brief outline of certain general essential considerations for use in appraising the potential value of a greensand deposit in any given locality.

Three of the five primary aluminum producers in the Pacific Northwest have facilities in the region to make aluminum mill products. Only one of the three, however, produces a variety of shapes and forms. The principal reason for the lag in development of an aluminum mill products industry was found to be transportation cost. The long range outlook is for expansion, based mainly on growth of the western market for aluminum used in construction, containers and packaging, electrical applications, diesel trucks, mobile homes, and irregation pipe. Consumption of western aluminum mill products in 1985 is projected at 1.1 million tons, compared with estimated consumption of 250,000 tons in 1961.

The limestone reef reservoir at Swan Hills consists essentially of a "buildup" of successively smaller atoll-like layers. Precipitation of calcium carbonate within the lagoonal area of each layer essentially kept pace with growth of the outer organic lattice. Within the reef mass, six de-positional environments characterized by specific suites of fossils (or fossil fragments) and associated limestone textures are recognized as follows: ( 1) Aerated moderately agitated water of normal marine salinity (widespread shelf or submerged reef-built platform). Thamnopora-type corals, Amphipora, "pancake" stroma-toporoids, crinoids, articulate bra-chiopods, rare rugose cup corals, and ostracods occurs in light gray-buff skeletal microgranular limestone of low permeability. (2) Semi-stagnant quiet water of normal marine salinity (leeward side of reef). Crinoids, articulate brachio-pods, rare thamnopora-type corals, Amphipora, pancake and bulbous stromatoporoids, rugose cup corals, ostracods and gastropods occur in impermeable dark brown argillaceous skeletal calcilutite with thin black bituminous shale beds and rare dark chert nodules.

Discussion of the laws bearing upon the economics of mining in this province at once resolves itself under three headings: (a) The rights and obligations of holders of mineral bearing lands; (b) Taxation of mines; (c) Regulation of methods adopted in financing mining operations. Titles: The law relating to titles is contained in the Mineral Act, Placer Mining Act and Coal Mines Prospecting Act. Origin: Mining laws in force in this province and elsewhere on the continent had their origin in the rule-of-thumb regulations adopted by prospectors themselves, when, far from the centres of civilization and the seats of the courts of justice, they found it necessary, for mutual protection, to fix the conditions of possession by right of location, and to prescribe the duties to be performed in order to enable the individual to maintain his ground against all comers. These regulations have been codified and added to by legislatures, until we find adequate protection and safeguard to property in the laws of this province.

Early stage design of driven piles primarily relies on static analysis based on one or a combination of total and effective stress approaches, the latter known as the method to estimate axial capacity. A database of 85 piles driven in the Puget Sound Lowland region and monitored at End of Driving (EOD) and Beginning of Restrike (BOR) was compiled along with capacities estimated using the CAPWAP procedure. Established soil profiles based on borings with standard penetration tests (SPT), cone penetration tests, and geologic maps were matched with their corresponding unit shaft resistance profiles from the CAPWAP procedure and resulted in more than 1,200 observations. In this study, eight new models were developed to predict the coefficients at EOD and BOR, based on the corresponding USCS categorization. Each coefficient model is formulated using a three-parameter exponential function, calibrated to capture the profile of coefficients with depth. These models could benefit the designer by providing them with a simple, empirical model that accounts for soil type and setup in a smooth, continuous function with depth. A parallel analysis was performed to assess the accuracy and variability of the formulated prediction models to facilitate implementation in load and resistance factor design (LRFD). INTRODUCTION The design of the axial capacity of driven piles during the planning stages of a project is typically based on a static analysis approach. The goals of this approach are to predict the components of capacity, consisting of the shaft and toe bearing resistances, and to assess project concept feasibility and preliminary lengths. In most cases, this analysis is based on empirically-developed methods, such as the total stress method, also known as the method (Tomlinson 1987) or the effective stress method known as the method (Esrig and Kirby 1979; Fellenius 1991). Many other methods, such as those based on in-situ test results exist and rely on correlations of blow counts from the standard penetration test (SPT), and cone tip and sleeve friction resistance from the cone penetration test (CPT), to shaft and toe pile resistances (Schmertmann 1978; Meyerhof 1976; Nottingham and Schmertmann 1975; Nordlund 1963; Eslami and Fellenius, 1997; De Ruiter and Beringen 1979). Although these methods were generally developed using data from specific geological regions, they are often recommended in national design manuals (e.g., FHWA, Hannigan et al. 2006).

Blast-induced rock mass displacement can have a significant impact on ore loss & dilution. The mischaracterisation of the grade boundaries both prior to, as well as a result of blasting can lead to significant financial losses on account of ore loss and dilution. Ore dilution occurs when waste material is miscategorised as ore and sent for processing or stockpiling, diluting the run of mine head grade and recovery. Ore loss takes place when valuable mineral is miscategorised as waste and sent to the waste dumps, thus never being processed and recovered. Extensive research has been conducted at the University of Queensland over the last fifteen years to understand the impact of blast movement on ore loss and dilution. Recent outcomes of this research have developed innovative tools and techniques to measure and model blast movement. These techniques have been implemented at Ahafo gold mine in Ghana to understand blast movement dynamics and to implement solutions to reduce blast-induced ore loss and dilution. These solutions are validated through controlled trials and have been incorporated into site standard operating procedures to sustain the benefits.

Adverse ground behavior events, such as convergence and falls of ground, are some of the most significant challenges and hazards in underground mines. Our goal is to work toward mine-wide, digital, and real-time three-dimensional geotechnical situational awareness and predictive capabilities in complex underground mining operations. This will benefit operators, engineers, and management by enabling them to develop a more proactive approach to ground control. To this end, and inspired by research in the field of remote sensing and autonomous robotics, this paper assesses the potential of mobile light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data acquisition for high-frequency, high-accuracy monitoring tasks in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) deprived underground mines. Limitations of current monitoring practices are reviewed. Relevant academic and commercial developments in the fields of indoor mobile mapping systems (MMSs) and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), robust autonomous robotic platforms, and automated remote sensing data processing are highlighted, and their current shortfalls are evaluated. To conclude, the ramifications of this work for the development of future autonomous underground mine monitoring solutions are discussed.

When the Paulsens operation was poised to be placed on care and maintenance, Bill Beament and the rest of the Northern Star Resources (NSR) team capitalised on the opportunity to send the Ashburton region’s only operating gold mine into the record books.A three-stage strategy was devised by NSR to pay off the acquisition and maximise the return from the operation. The first stage was to mine the 55 000 oz mine plan and pay off the cost of the acquisition, then maintain profitable production beyond the seven months and re-establish a mine life. The second stage involved an early commitment to a 220 m long diamond drill drive being placed in the hanging wall of the orebody from which the extensions of the orebody could be further explored, allowing the second stage of the plan to come into effect and extend the mine life by converting Inferred Resources into the mine plan. The third stage of the initial plan was to utilise this drill drive and continue to drill deeper holes beyond the current limit of drilling in the ore zones to extend the orebody and increase the mine’s life.With an ever growing desire to further expand, the young company took on the bold move of establishing its own mining services division. A critical element to the success of this was ensuring that the right people were recruited with the appropriate specialised skill sets.Aligning common goals amongst all NSR team members, from the board and senior management to the work force on site, was critical to integrate the new and driven direction that Paulsens had adopted. It was essential to change the focus and a shift in all employees’ attitudes and values from a mine that was all but down and out, to a site that wanted to be kicking some serious goals.Teaming together a passionate and driven leader with a strong allied workforce was always going to put NSR in the best position possible to make Paulsens the success story that it now is.
