Reverse flotation process tests were conducted for marine sedimentary silicon-calcium phosphate ore in this research. The research findings showed that by adding antifoamer, a concentrate with P2O5 32.36%, SiO2 10.69%, MgO 0.67% was obtained, with recovery of P2O5 being 88.12%. Such is a satisfying result, when compared with the original mineralogical component of P2O5 26.64%, SiO2 11.51% and MgO 3.36%. When using antifoamer, the SiO2 grade of the concentrate increased 0.55%, the MgO grade decreased 0.64%, while P2O5 recovery increased 2.69% compared by adding no antifoamer. Adding antifoamer is favorable to increase the grade and recovery of P2O5. Therefore, antifoamer is necessary. Tests of synergistic reaction of antifomer indicate that the appropriate consumption of the antifoamer is 275g/t CY and 1Kg/t TWF. "A specially designed mill which allowed the control of pH throughout grinding was used to study the effect of grinding conditions on galena flotation and galena separation from pyrite. The changes occurring on the mineral surface during grinding were investigated by EDTA extraction and ToF-SIMS measurements.Galena flotation and galena separation from pyrite were strongly dependent on the type and amount of oxidation species produced on galena and pyrite surfaces under different grinding conditions. Iron oxidation species depressed both galena and pyrite flotation, whilst lead oxidation species activated pyrite flotation but had little effect on galena flotation. Optimum galena flotation and galena selectivity against pyrite were achieved by selecting grinding conditions that enabled lead and iron oxidation production to be controlled.Grinding conditions had a large effect on the flotation of the galena particles of different sizes. Flotation of fine galena particles (-10 µm) was depressed by iron oxidation species derived from the grinding media. Chromium grinding medium decreased the production of iron oxidation species and therefore increased the flotation of fine galena particles."

"The research applies the density functional theory and molecule design technology to design and synthesize the novel flotation collectors for copper-sulphur separation. Density functional theory (DFT) was applied to investigate the electronic properties of O-isopropyl-N-benzyl thionocarbamate (IP-BIAN) and O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z-200). The calculation results show that both the energy of highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO) and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO) of IP-BIAN are smaller than that of Z-200, electronegativity of IP-BIAN is higher than that of Z-200. According to the Klopman’s generalized perturbation theory, the collecting power of the two compounds is predicted to be Z-200 > IP-BIAN, the selectivity of IP-BIAN is better than that of Z-200. Then the thionocarbamate molecular is synthesized, and the compounds are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). It turns out that the test result identifies the prediction after the flotation verified test of pure mineral and actual mineral. The results demonstrate that the EHOMO and ELUMO are smaller in the thionocarbamate after a nitrogen atom is bound to benzyl, the thionocarbamate has strong selectivity and low collecting power. The lower the LUMO energy of thionocarbamate is, the stronger the back donation covalent p-bond between collectors and chalcopyrite is, thus improving flotation power for chalcopyrite and selectivity against pyrite. The result proves the feasibility of design and synthesis of the novel thionocarbamate through the frontier orbital properties of the collectors.1. INTRODUCTION Thiocarbamate is a kind of nonionic polar collector and is now widely used as flotation collector for copper-sulphur separation. The flotation power of thiocarbamate to chalcopyrite is stronger than pyrite, so it has high selectivity against pyrite. The frontier orbital theory and density functional theory (DFT) has been widely applied to study the structure-activity relationship of flotation collectors [1-6]. The flotation test results can be interpreted by using the reaction energy criteria and quantum-chemical parameters, such as the energy of the highest occupied molecular orbital (EHOMO) and the energy of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (ELUMO) of collector [7-11]. In turn, there are rarely reports about screening the novel flotation collector, by the frontier orbital properties such as HOMO and LUMO of flotation collectors. In this thesis, we apply the density functional theory and molecule design technology to design and synthesize the novel flotation collectors for copper-sulphur separation. Based on the previous findings of the structure-activity relationship of xanthogen formats [12], it has stronger collecting ability to chalcopyrite while the xanthogen formats after a nitrogen atom is bound to benzyl. Thus, in this study, a novel thionocarbamate molecule O-isopropyl-N-benzyl thionocarbamate (IP-BIAN) will be constructed, when the group structure connected with N atom in the known collector O-isopropyl-N-ethyl thionocarbamate (Z-200) is replaced with ethyl by propyl. The collectors (IP-BIAN and Z-200) have been calculated by DFT methods in quantum chemistry. By analyzing the reaction energy criteria and the frontier orbital properties (HOMO and LUMO), this research predicts flotation performance of novel collectors (IP-BIAN), then the synthetic experiments and flotation verified tests are conducted. The research provides a new theory reference for screening out the high-effective flotation collectors of copper-sulphur separation. This technology adoption will contribute to the sustainable development of mineral resources as it shortens the research cycle of new collector molecules and reduces the investment."

"Three important components of stirred tanks involved in energy consumption, the impellers and baffles, were investigated to intensify the agitation pretreatment on the flotation of nickel ores. Flotation tests revealed that the stirred tanks with two impellers had an advantage over those with one impeller in intensifying agitation pretreatment, and the higher agitation speed led to better flotation performance of nickel ores. Installation and removal of baffles were also employed in the stirred tanks, and flotation tests demonstrated that with baffles, the flotation grade increased significantly. These agitator design improvements were used to demonstrate that the energy supplied to the system significantly influences the flotation recovery and that if the energy consumption of the agitation pretreatment is ideal, flotation efficiency can be improved. Data from full-scale operations backed up these results.INTRODUCTIONThe flotation recovery of nickel-copper sulphide ore at the Western China nickel mine has historically been difficult due to the presence of large amounts of serpentine minerals (Feng, et al., 2012). Many studies reported that serpentine minerals tend to have a positive potential at pH values up to 9.5, while sulphides (such as pentlandite and chalcopyrite) have a low isoelectric point(Feng, et al., 2012). Serpentine minerals can form surface coatings on negatively charged sulphides surface due to electrostatic attraction when they interact with each other, which may also reduce collector adsorption and increase the hydrophilicity of the sulphide particles. In order to improve the flotation of nickel sulphides, sodium hexametaphosphate, sodium silicate, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and other agents are used to disperse serpentine coating from sulphide surfaces in the flotation of the Jinchuan deposit and other nickel ores in China ( Kirjavainen and Heiskanen, 2007; Lu, et al., 2011). However, it is difficult to improve of the sulphide flotation due to the high dosage and the lack of selectivity."

The low-grade iron ore sample contains both lumps and fines. It is mostly hematitic iron ore and considerable amount of goethitic/limonitic material is present in it. The major impurities present were quartz and clay. It is observed that the iron bearing phases are poorly liberated above 300 µm and the liberation improves below 300 µm. More than 80% liberation is achieved below 106 µm. Based on the liberation data, the feed for the different beneficiation methods was prepared by stage crushed the ROM followed by grinding passing to 106µm and the ground material (-106µm) was deslimed. The underflow was subjected to various beneficiation techniques such as tabling, enhanced gravity separator (EGS), wet high intensity magnetic separation (WHIMS), and flotation and the results are discussed. All the methods studied could able to produce pellet grade concentrate with iron content of 64.5%, however, a marginal higher yield was observed for WHIMS (81%). Bor flotation tailings are very interesting from two reasons: first, is having due value presently, and second represent serious pollutant into this region of Balkan. This paper is only one small part of investigation about processing of valuable minerals from tailings, and desulphurization of this biggest pollutant in the same time, by refloating. The main objective of this work is to pay attention on this problem for resolve greatest environ-mental problem of Serbia and Balkan in the nearly future. Bor is potential regional risk spot, since that failure of its tailings dams would release high amounts of toxic materials that would reach the Danube River. The basic goal of this experimental investigation was finding some possibility for flotation tailings treatment by classical froth flotation. In order was obtained material effect through copper recovery, and environmental protection by moving the rest of reprocessing into the safe place. The work present obtained results of laboratory tests in two laboratories: laboratory of mineral and recycling technology at the faculty in Bor, and laboratory of department of mineral processing of ITNMS in Belgrade.

With rapid development of Chinese iron & steel industry, it is of significance to intensify the utilization of domestic complex iron ore resources. The tin, zinc-bearing complex iron ores are typical polymetallic and intractable ones because of the complicated intergrowth relations among the multi-elements, and they have not been efficiently utilized, presently. Based on the thermodynamic analysis of iron, tin and zinc oxides reduction by CO, the technological conditions of tin and zinc recovery and pellets preparation from tin, zinc-containing iron concentrates by selective reduction roasting are studied and a new comprehensive utilization process is developed in this investigation. Under the optimum conditions, the tin and zinc volatilization is respectively in excess of 80% and 70%, and the compression strength of roasted pellet is more than 2500 N/P. Moreover, the residual tin and zinc in the finished pellets is below 0.06%. The finished pellets can be used as high quality iron-making burdens for large-scale blast furnace.

Gold extraction using iodide leaching from refractory carbonaceous gold ores was studied. Thermodynamic analysis of iodide leaching chemistry had been carried out. Eh-pH diagram of Au-I2-I--H2O leaching system showed that the coordinating active forms from iodides were I3- and I-, while the major coordinate compound formed during iodide leaching was AuI-. For leaching parameters optimization, technological parameters such as I2 concentration, I2 :I- ratio, oxidation assisting agents, liquid/solid ratio, and leaching duration were studied. The leaching results showed that the average Au leaching rate reached 91% and 92% for oxidized ore and roasted primary ore respectively. Leaching process proceeded in weekly acidic or neutral slurry at ambient temperature; the leaching duration was 4 hours. After that gold was extracted from the pregnant liquor by activated carbon adsorption ? desorption ? electrowinning process. Gold recovery was over 93% in the adsorption process, while the gold recovery in electrowinning process was about 95%, provided that the initial gold concentration is 40mg/L or larger. For iodine regeneration it is enough to add hydrogen peroxide in excess into the filtrate after gold electrowinning, all the iodides existing in the solution in any forms would be precipitated in the form of elemental iodine.

Vast amount of fly ash, bottom ash and slags, are produced each year due to coal combustion in thermal power plants. These products consist of mainly unburned carbon and inorganic compound (such as: silica, alumina, iron oxides, magnesium oxide, phosphorus oxide etc.). These are valuable minerals and can be recycled or recovered if properly processed. One third of the material find application as an ingredient in cement and other construction products, the rest is held in dams or similar dumps, which results in a hazardous impact on the environment, polluting soil and ground water. The unproductive use of land, the associated long term financial burden maintenance and negative environmental impacts have led to realization that alternative uses for combustion by-products as a value added product beyond incorporation in construction materials are needed. At present, there is an intensive search to increase their uses. Other uses of coal combustion residues include as raw material in brick and ceramic tile fabrication, as filler in plastics and paints, extraction of valuable mineral materials, production of zeolites and soil and mine waste treatments. Separation of unburned carbon from bottom ashes by means of flotation was conducted in order to increase the possibility of the recycling of coal combustion wastes. In the flotation experiments collector, dispersant and frother amount, pulp density and pH were tested as variables. After first stage flotation experiments, at optimum conditions, the carbon content was reduced down to 5.58 % in the tailings fraction. This fraction meets the industrial specifications and can be utilized as a cement additive. At the same conditions the carbon content of the concentrate increased to 44.72 % at a carbon recovery of 65.81 %. After the cleaner stage flotation experiment the carbon content of the product is enhanced to 62.53 %. This fraction can be blended back into the coal feed to the power plant boilers.

"Flotation of arseno bearing minerals from their copper ore has been an interest due to the increasing awareness on protecting the environment by minimizing the possibility of exposed arsenic compound. Some approaches have been proposed, but the mechanisms of separations have not yet fully understood. In this study, oxidation using oxygen was applied. Instead of the complex copper ore flotation results, pure single mineral of tennantite and chalcopyrite foatability was conducted using Hallimond tube. Resembled with the flotation results of copper concentrate containing tennantite, the separation possessed the best result at alkaline condition (pH 11) at where the arsenic content was reduced from 3300 ppm to 1800 ppm. In order to be able to understand the mechanism of the separation atomic force microscope (AFM) was utilized. AFM images showed changes in morphology and behavior when minerals were treated in both acid and alkaline condition. It was found that the morphological change showed the reaction products representing the rate of reactivity of tennantite and chalcopyrite. From the measured force of adhesion, it can be observed that in alkaline condition the surface of both minerals is more hydrophilic than that in acidic condition possessing higher value. This is in accordance with the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra in which hydroxide moieties occupied the mineral surface in alkaline condition while elemental sulfur is in acidic condition."

The kaolin losses in hydrocyclone classification are determined by the fines, which are discharged together with the water to the underflow. This paper presents an improved technique of water injection to the conical part of the cyclone applied especially for small cyclones in kaolin preparation. In small hydrocyclones water, injection is a sensitive process. Therefore, the process was stabilized by controlled water injection dependent on the measurement of the underflow shape. Three applications of this innovation are presented. In the first case, the water injection is applied for the separation stage in dilute suspension where the final product is produced in the overflow of a 50mm hydrocyclone. The underflow contains sand and residual kaolin. For a higher kaolin recovery, the underflow is usually treated downstream in washing cyclones. The wash water injection results in a 45 ? 50% - reduction of the kaolin fraction <25µm in the underflow. Thus, water injection to the classifying cyclone leads to a separation comparable with a downstream washing stage. An additional hydrocyclone stage can be deleted. The second application refers to a classification in dense suspension. Here, the underflow of the last hydrocyclone stage was directed to a washing in a 50mm hydrocyclone. The additional injection of 3L/min water in to the conical part of the cyclone reduced the kaolin losses by half.The third application was executed in the washing stage equipped with 75mm hydrocyclones where the underflow is directed to flotation. "Graphite is the key raw material of new carbon materials such as graphene and spherical graphite. The size and completeness of graphite flakes directly affect the performance of new carbonaceous materials.The research aims to increase the yield of large flake graphite by way of preventing the flake graphite from being damaged during the grinding process. A series of grinding and flotation studies on the flake graphite samples of Yichang in Hubei Province were carried out by vertical stirred mill . The damage coefficient L characterising the degree of graphite flake fractured and corresponding formula was proposed to determine the quality of the grinding and grinding of the flake graphite. The way the damage coefficient L of graphite flake would be affected if with different mill, different media material and size, stirrer speed were investigated. The test results show that vertical screw stirred mill helps the protection of large flake of graphite as well as the graphite liberation. When grinding to the same fineness, the damage coefficient L of graphite flake is 1.20 for vertical stirred mill, while the damage coefficient is 2.93 for ball mill. Minimum damage coefficient of graphite flake was obtained when using 6 mm polyurethane coated ball as grinding media, under the condition that rotation speed of the stirrer within the range of 100~130r/min. The grade of graphite in the concentrate floated from the ground product was 94.16%, the rate of recovery for graphite was 94.66%, and the content of +0.15mm was 54.83%.1 INTRODUCTION Flake graphite is a very important non-metallic mineral[1,2],and due to its special flake structure, the greater the scale and the higher the C grade, the value of its application is larger too. Therefore, in the grinding of graphite sorting process, We should minimize the destruction of graphite scales.. In this paper, graphite mine in Yichang, Hubei Province was used as the raw material for the study. Rough concentrate with C-grade of 36.49% was prepared by rough grinding and coarse separation. Then a series of grinding and flotation studies on the rough concentrate were carried out by vertical stirred mill , which aims to increase the yield of large flake graphite and to provide technical support for improving the beneficiation process of graphite ore."

PETROBRAS started its Oil Shale process development in 1953, the PETROSIX process which was developed and tailored to Irati Oil Shale formation. Since 1991, the industrial plant called MI (Industrial Module) has been operating, producing more than 20 million barrels of oil. In order to continue the oil shale exploration, a new shale mine is been opening. This article reports the planed measures taking in order to limit the environmental impacts and to return the land as close as possible to the original condition, as well as with the disposition of the process waste and the city garbage. It shows that the remediation process starts during the mining activities and continues after the mine exploration. Another characteristic of the Petrosix process, the pyrolysis of tires will be focused.

The Mount Isa copper concentrator started operation in 1973. Its secondary grinding circuit consisted of two 5 meters diameter ball mills in closed circuit with 505 mm cyclones. At the design throughput of 800 t/h, the 80% passing size of the circuit product (P80) was about 140 µm. The then Mount Isa Mines Limited (?MIM?) installed two autogenous grinding (?AG?) mills in 1991 to replace two stages of crushing, a rod milling stage and one primary ball milling stage. One of the AG mills was later converted to semi-autogenous grinding (?SAG?) operation by the addition of a steel grinding medium to achieve the designed plant throughput of 800 t/h. The cyclone over-flow P80of the secondary ball mill circuit was reduced to 120 µm by the increased operating power in the AG/SAG mill circuits. The two secondary balls mills had a grinding power of 5.2 MW. A mineralogical study of the milled products indicated that half of this grinding power was sufficient for adequate chalcopyrite liberation. Eliminating one of the secondary ball mills could reduce energy and operating costs by more than A$2 million dollars per year. An optimisation project team was established to achieve the predicted power saving. Grinding circuit simulations were conducted for different circuit configurations. Ball mill parameters such as ball size, ball charge and feed slurry density were optimised. Cyclone body diameter, spigot and vortex finder sizes, and cyclone types were tested. The secondary ball mill circuit was redesigned and several proposed circuits were run as trial production campaigns to determine their operability and efficiency. The plant trials confirmed that one of the secondary ball mills could be decommissioned. Significant cost savings were achieved as a result. The success of the project demonstrates optimising grinding circuits can not only deliver the plant performance, but also a much lower unit operating cost through energy and maintenance savings.

"The analysis on influencing factors of hydraulic conditions in fine hematite flocculation, such as stirring speed, stirring time and axial distance of particle size and fractal dimension of floc was investigated. Furthermore, response surface methodology(RSM) has been applied according to the Box-Benhnken center-united experimental design principle to optimize parameters of hydraulic conditions as a response index to indicate the fractal dimension of floc. The results show that when the agitation speed is 900r/min, the axial distance is 2.0cm, and the stirring time is 3.0min, the particle size reaches the maximum value of 35.44µm and the fractal dimension is 1.6594. The interaction between the axial distance and the stirring speed is highly significant, but the interaction with the stirring time is not obvious. The experimental data and model predications match well, which indicates that the established model has high accuracy and practicability. INTRODUCTION With the exhaustion of iron ore resources that are easy to be mined and the vigorous demand for iron and steel, the exploitation and utilization of fine-grained embedded iron ore resources have drawn attention from the industry and the government [1~2]. Flocculation flotation is one of the effective methods for separation and recovery of fine granular minerals. In 1975, the method was first applied and succeeded in Tilden Concentrator, USA. Flocculation and desliming became the key technology of the Tilden to raise its annual treatment capacity from 4 million tons to 8 million tons at that time [3 ~ 4]. In 2008, the selective flocculation and desliming-reverse flotation technology was successfully used to treat 2.8 million tons of Qidong iron ore. Under the conditions of 28.36% raw iron grade and 98% grinding fineness -0.038 mm, the ideal index of 62.5% iron concentrate grade and 68% recovery was obtained [5]. Dr Kitchenner of the Royal College of Mining and the Ore Processing Research Group of Wallenstein Laboratory first proposed the use of flocculation to separate minerals. After that, many scholars conducted a great deal of theoretical and practical researches, but mostly they focused on chemical theories, mathematical models and selectivity differences in the flocculation process, while the research on the influence of the pulp flow state on the separation effect in the flocculation process started later [6~9]. The results show that the motion of the agitated flow field has a significant influence on the formation of flocs. The fluid morphology will change with the change of hydraulic conditions. The change of fluid morphology will not only affect the movement behavior of particles, but also change the action of chemical agents on the surface of mineral particles[10~12]."

Today there is a consensus that xanthate adsorption on sulfide minerals is primarily controlled by redox reactions occurring at specific potentials on these semi-conductive minerals. Consequently, it is possible to control xanthate adsorption by controlling electrochemical conditions in the system by using oxidizing and reducing agents. The scope of this study was to investigate the possibilities to increase the selectivity of Cu-Fe-Zn ore flotation by applying electrochemical control in the conditioning of the flotation feed. In this work, mild steel grinding in a nitrogen atmosphere was used as the basis to provide a negative starting potential and minimize the amount of oxidation products on sulfide mineral surfaces. To study how different potential levels affect flotation results, a controlled conditioning procedure was utilized maintaining potential at a desired level by titrating the pulp with air. Xanthate adsorption kinetics during conditioning was examined by taking pulp samples for spectrophotometric analysis and laboratory flotation tests were conducted for samples that underwent the controlled conditioning procedure in the potential range of -200mV to +200mV vs. SHE. A clear correlation was detected between chalcopyrite recovery and the potential during controlled conditioning indicating that there was a constant increase in chalcopyrite recovery when the potential was shifted to more anodic values. It is possible that utilizing potential control in the conditioning stage, a smelter grade copper concentrate can be achieved directly in rougher flotation without cleaning stages. Conditioning in favorable conditions had significant positive effects on flotation selectivity of chalcopyrite. The improvement in copper concentrate grade being predominantly caused by the depression of pyrite. By applying the controlled conditioning procedure pyrite recovery in rougher flotation was reduced even low as under 1%, while in the tests without controlled conditioning, pyrite recovery varied between 7.5 – 65.7%. The result of this work indicate that affecting collector adsorption by electrochemical control in the conditioning stage can provide significant improvement in sulfide mineral flotation and industrial applications could lead to decreased chemical consumption, reduced equipment and maintenance costs.

Dense medium cyclones have been in use for washing coarse and small coals for more than 50 years. There have been modifications in its design and today these units have become indispensable for washing of Indian coals possessing difficult washing characteristics. About 53 percent of the Indian coals (coking and non-coking) are being washed in jigs, about 38 per cent are washed in dense medium cyclones while the remaining 9 per cent is treated in other units like Barrel Washers, Heavy Media Baths and Drum Separators etc. The present paper deals with the attempts made for design of industrial Dense Medium Cyclones for enhanced coal recovery. Two industrial units of 500 mm diameter and 650 mm diameter were designed with their washing capacities being 200 m3/hr and 350 m3/hr, respectively. The results of the pilot tests conducted on 500 mm cyclone treating very high Near Gravity Material coals crushed to -3.0+0.5 mm gave an ash reduction of up to 19.5 percent with the new design i.e., from a feed ash of 34.5 percent to 15.06 percent in clean coal with an appreciable yield of 45 percent in one stage.

As the third-generation equipment, which is efficient and modern, it, in China and therefore all over the world, will find wide application in processing both fine and ultra-fine iron ore resources. Industrial test, carried out in Benxi Steel?s Waitoushan Iron Mine, shows efficient classification, i.e., ?74µm particle contents in coarse, medium and fine products come to 6.09%,11.82% and 82.73%, respectively, while qualitative and quantitative efficiencies end up by 74.38% and 87.66%, respectively. Its separation efficiencies amount to 2.2 times as many as spiral classifiers, 1.8 times as hydrocyclones, and 1.3 times as vibration high-frequency fine screens. Another industrial test, which was practiced in Anshan Steel?s Donganshan Sinter Plant, indicates that classification qualitative efficiency comes to 65.06%, equal to 1.51 times as many as hydrocyclones; yield, 55.79%; -71µm particle contents in medium and coarse products, 42.02%; -71µm content in fine product, 95.42%; and concentration, 12.33%. Estimated separation indexes are as follows: Yield for concentrate at 31.22%, up 0.22% than that from general processing line; concentrate grade at 66.42%, up 1.13%; recovery ratio comes to 65.84%, up 1.28%, which, based on pilot study, results in 20 million yuan of economic return for Donganshan Floatation Plant.

In the scope of this investigation comparison between impact breakage and compression breakage were carried out for the separation efficiency of minerals using a chromite ore sample. The ore sample was broken below 1 mm employing a laboratory type roll crusher and an impact crusher. Concentration tests were conducted on -1+0.5 mm, -0.5+0.2 mm and -0.2 mm size fractions using a Wilfley type shaking table. Test results showed a remarkable difference between two types of breakage. Both concentrate grade and recovery was in the favour of impact crushing. Furthermore, the shape of the broken particles also showed differences such that in the case of impact breakage they were more spherical compared to compressive crushing. The results of the shaking table con-centration tests showed that a concentrate assaying 48.4% Cr2O3 were obtained with 78.5% recovery in the case of impact breakage. On the other hand the concentrate grade and recovery values were 48.8% Cr2O3and 52.4% respectively in the case of compression crushing. The losses in the tailings were also in favour of impact breakage proving that differential breakage occurred between chromite and gangue minerals.

"As part of an extensive research and development project, the technical and technological implementation of the patents DE 10 358 245 B4 and WO/2006/056172 was developed with the goal to present a system for the innovative roll- agglomeration method exhibiting a) a modular setup, b) high productivity and c) suitability for the use of fibres of different applications and product qualities (high technical availability). The processability of the rarely adapted raw fibre materials into high-value intermediates brings forward their application in various processing industries dealing with the production of fibre reinforced plastic composites, heat and sound insulation materials as well as with the gas and liquid cleaning systems. The innovative fibre agglomeration presented in this work is performed by a combination of rolling and pressing the fibres inside a geometrically pre-defined roller table, in which the fibres are forced to bound through entanglement / interlocking and develop into agglomerate. The agglomeration process is carried out in a circular roller path with a rectangular cross-section. For improving the adhesive properties, and thus the quality of the agglomerates, the boundary surfaces can be covered / patterned / lined / coated with various materials. The resulting roll-agglomerates are characterized by different quality parameters such as mass, shape, porosity and stability. The properties of the agglomerates can be modified based on the end-product requirements by slightly modifying the process parameters such as filling ratio, residence time, roll-geometry, procurement of the boundary surfaces, etc. as well as the input material properties such as fibre type, fibre fineness, fibre length, etc. This work carries extensive work on the roll-agglomeration system to assess the effectiveness and the variability based on the product specifications. Agglomerates were produced with wide variations of system parameters with varying roller table liners and based on evaluation of the produced agglomerates with respect to their mass, the geometrical dimensions, their porosity and stability."
