Blackwater Mine is in the central-southern Bowen Basin, immediately south of the township of Blackwater on the Capricorn Highway. The current open cut operation extracts coal from three main seams, designated Top, Middle and Lower, in the Late Permian Rangal Coal Measures cropping out on the eastern flank of the Comet Ridge. Complex geological structures, dominated by E-W normal faults and N-S reverse faults, have significant detrimental effects on coal mining operations. Historical exploration before 2010 involved several types of drilling only to understand structure, coal quality and washability. Hence, although drilling data was combined with limited pit mapping and observation, unknown structures were still often encountered during excavations and led to mining surprises. In 2010 BHP completed 200-line km of closely spaced 2D seismic survey to capture gross and detailed structures followed by fit for purpose structural drilling to confirm major structures in the northern part of the mine. In 2018 a high density 9.2 km2 3D seismic survey was completed in the southern part of the mine. Subsequently, a 17.2 km2 survey was completed in 2020 to cover the northern active mining area. It allowed geoscientists to successfully map previously unknown major faults and seam splits, which could potentially impact the mineability of the area. It is important to note, that faults interpreted using modern high-density 3D data can be interpreted with dramatically higher confidence in the fault dip and azimuth orientation in comparison to the legacy 2D data. Along with targeted drilling, pit mapping and structural interpretation, the outcome adds value to mine planning and operations. This paper outlines recent successful seismic 3D data acquisition and interpretation. In detail, the paper presents case studies on how the data can be incorporated into a structural model to improve geological knowledge, enable geotechnical assessment, and support safe and efficient coal mining in a large and structurally complex mine.

(Quality can be defined as that which is acceptable to the market and can be supplied with a predictable degree of uniformity and dependability at a low cost. The market for any mining product is downstream processing, whether it be an alumina refinery, a gold processing plant or a flotation plant. The cost of that downstream process is partly dependent on uniformity of its feed material both in physical and chemical terms. With more operations adopting procedures which require quality assurances in line with International Standards, from their raw material suppliers, miners must look to their grade control processes to provide uniformity and predicability.This is not a new concept. The mining industry has constantly been working with ahighly variable raw material supplied by Mother Nature, from whom we cannot demand quality assurances. Through the processes of exploration, resource and reserve definition, long and short term mine planning and day to day grade control an end product has been supplied which consistently meets our customers requirements, in an economic fashion. When any of these processes fail, then penalties are incurred which can range from increased mineral processing costs to loss of markets and in the ultimate case, failure of a mining operation.

We offer these notes as a practical contribution. All the arguments we advance have been tested by practical experience.In its preparation we realised that our subject was one of such importance and covered so wide a field that, dealt with by one of us alone, it might easily have been too much for him, so we have endeavoured, by mutual criticism and advice and a pooling of ideas, to bring forward a few points that may be of advantage to members. If any of the paper is of benefit to mining on the "Golden Mile," or elsewhere, we shall feel amply repaid for our efforts.It is obvious to all that the longer the machine is working productively per shift the greater the return, to all concerned; the machine-man himself and the company. Furthermore, if a man commences a shift with a definite objective in view; for instance, to bore and fire a specific cut, which he recognizes will give him a good financial return, then that man will exercise all his capabilities to attain that objective.In this paper we hope to demonstrate the value to the machine-man of the knowledge of the capabilities of each hole he bores, so that he will be enabled to utilize his drilling time to the greatest advantage. Also, we hope to show that such drilling time can be advantageously extended.After the war, with the influx of new men to the industry, some education on the finer points of machine work may be desirable, and any instruction in this branch must stress the realization of the value of each hole.We realise that most of those present have a sound workable knowledge of machine-mining, and we are not trying to teach anyone the fundamentals of machine work, but we would like to bring to their attentIon some of the finer points which we believe are very important.The machine-man has control of gear of a capital value of over £150, and the use or misuse of that material has a direct bearing on working costs. Therefore it is imperative that the capital outlay is gainfully employed.A "bogger" in charge of a 5/- shovel engaged unproductively is bad enough. How much worse for £150 worth of gear to be not fully productive.Figs. 1 and 2 demonstrate angles of break, and the full realization of the importance of this angle is essential to our paper. Although these Sketches are two-dimensional, we hope they will be sufficient to demonstrate our meaning. A major high grade zinc deposit, Dugald River has fine-grained and complex mineral associations which provide considerable metallurgical challenges for both mineral dressers and downstream processors. A long history of metallurgical testing focusing on mineralogy and flotation concentrate production has shown that while separate lead and zinc concentrates can be produced at saleable grades, high levels of iron, and particularly manganese, are likely to place constraints on the marketing of zinc concentrate produced from deeper zones where coincidentally lode development is at its maximum. Testwork has focused on characterising the flotation response of ore types ranging from banded and stringer sulphides to brecciated ores in a variety of sulphide matrices. A high level of variability with lower than expected metal recoveries has been indicated across some of the higher grade brecciated ores. However, the dominant slatey breccia has generally provided the best results. Heavy media preconcentration testwork has been moderately encouraging and at this stage, although value adding downstream of concentrate production on-site is not seen as an economic option processing developments are being monitored on a broad front. Providing satisfactory means can be developed for handling manganese during downstream processing of the concentrate, it is not difficult to see a world-class operation emerging from the resource in the medium-term Future.

The long-term production schedule of open pit mines that maximises the net present value (NPV) of a given project relies on the proper design of phases (pushbacks) within the ultimate pit limits. There is not a phase design algorithm applied in the mining industry today that gives yearly production schedules that are optimum.The majority of phase design algorithms currently in use by the mining industry aims at grouping the blocks that fall within the ultimate pit limits into phases such that the average value of the blocks within each phase decrease as the size of the phases increase. Current phase design methods are typically based on a pit limit optimisation algorithm, originally introduced by Lerchs and Grossmann (LG) in 1965. To obtain multiple pit shells to be used for the phase design, the LG pit limit algorithm successively applied to economic block models by changing the price of the commodity or some other factor that properly parameterises the size of the pit. These modified economic block models are developed by predetermining the destination for each block in the model based on a breakeven analysis and highest economic outcome between alternative destinations. Phase designs determined by these existing algorithms may be suboptimal if a given project utilises multiple processing facilities for metal recovery and particularly if these facilities have restrictions (constraints) that require blending of attributes in the feed. To overcome these problems in obtaining phases that optimise overall production schedules, a new algorithm is developed at the Colorado School of Mines. The algorithm determines the phases of an open pit mine by taking into account multiple process options for the blocks and period by period blending requirements. This algorithm has been implemented within a software program (the software) and is being prototyped successfully in the design of improved pushbacks at a copper mine in South America and on a gold mine in Nevada. This presentation will demonstrate the shortcomings of the traditional phase design methodologies based on comparison of results coming from the new approach versus the traditional.

The design of final landforms is an integral part of mine closure plans in Queensland and aims to ensure the rehabilitated land is safe, stable and non-polluting. Landform stability in this context is commonly assessed using Landscape Evolutions Models (LEM) which are physical models simulating sediment erosion and deposition around individual landforms over long timespans (up to thousands of years). The most used LEM for assessment of rehabilitated landforms in Queensland is SIBERIA (Willgoose, Bras and Rodriguez-Iturbe, 1991; Tucker and Hancock, 2010). SIBERIA models are complex, require very detailed input data and simulate erosion and deposition over time frames that extend decades beyond closure. They are not suitable to assess erosion risks during the operational phase of a mine and to support the development of erosion and sediment control plans. Other types of erosion models, such as the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE, Wischmeier and Smith, 1978) or Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP, Nearing et al, 1989) calculate soil loss on a monthly or yearly basis and are much better suited to erosion management during the operational phase. They are simpler to implement and can support the design of control measures. For instance, designing a sediment basin requires quantification of sediment loads, which can be produced by these models. In Queensland, the legislation around sediment and erosion control for open cut mines is currently tightening. Soil erosion remains a major concern due to potential impacts on the receiving environment. It requires management during operation and for closure consideration alike and it is critical that erosion and sediment control plans are developed with the most appropriate tools. Globally, RUSLE is the most widely used soil loss model (Borrelli et al, 2021). This is because it is an empirical model with relatively simple input requirements: biophysical data such as soil properties, vegetation cover, topography and rainfall variability, which can be directly measured or derived from regional or national databases and/or spatial data sets that are available in most parts of the world. The second most used model is WEPP (Borrelli et al, 2021) but compared to RUSLE, there is a large drop in the frequency of its use. This is because WEPP is physically-based and has more complex data requirements. WEPP integrates hydrology, hydraulics, erosion mechanics and land cover to predict soil erosion and sediment transport on hill slope profiles and small watersheds (Stolpe, 2005). It requires some biophysical parameters in formats different from those of RUSLE, as well as detailed hydrologic and catchment data. Nevertheless, it has been used in landform design for mines across Australia to determine final landform stability (eg Howard and Roddy, 2012; Costin, 2020). In this study, we assess which tool would be the most appropriate to support development of erosion and sediment control plans from operation to closure. We use RUSLE and WEPP to predict soil loss from a mine site, compare the results from both models and outline the advantages of each method.

"This paper reports on the long-term operation of a particle density meter (PDM) at the Bloomfield coal handling and preparation plant (CHPP). This unit has been operating continuously for over three years, providing real-time data to the operators to allow the monitoring of flotation circuit performance. PDM outputs include slurry density, solids concentration on both mass and volumetric basis, and particle density. Knowing the average particle density of a stream allows for the optimisation of the process in real-time.The calibration of the solids concentration measurement device proved very difficult as the factory calibration techniques and existing laboratory analysis did not give accurate or reliable results. The solids concentration device had to be re-engineered and a new calibration method developed that gave accurate and repeatable results. Independent verification of samples taken from the PDM was undertaken as part of the trial process.The operational reliability of the PDM was a major point of investigation. The initial installation of the unit revealed issues with large, misplaced material of up to 20 mm periodically entering the unit, leading to feed blockages. The presence of these misplaced, oversized particles in the flotation circuit was resolved by installing innovative automatic back flush systems on the PDM.From a plant perspective the PDM has been an invaluable instrument that has enabled irregularities in the flotation circuit performance to be identified, which sampling had not and could not readily identify. This was achieved by close monitoring of real-time tailings composition on a minute by minute basis over short and extended periods. Variations in the tailings stream with respect to particle density and solids concentration were traced back to other issues in the plant. In addition, the PDM has allowed cell optimisation with respect to reagent dose rate to be improved. The PDM with real-time feedback can negate the need for large sampling campaigns and analysis during plant optimisation programs.Citation:Lambert, N, Cox, N and Nicholson, R, 2016. In May 2000, Kanowna Belle Gold Mines (KBGM) carried out a detailed Truck versus Shaft Haulage Study. The study showed that whilst the shaft option had many operating cost benefits the capital costs were too high, therefore the truck option was selected. In May 2001, the concept of achieving æshaft typeÆ benefits without the capital costs was floated. This is achieved by separating the hoisting of ore from other mining activities. The general concept is that material from underground is transported to a central location and then transported to the surface by a special truck fleet, thus removing the dependency between trucks and loaders, providing the mine with surge capacity and decreasing operating costs. At KBGM these advantages have been gained by installing an ore pass system with a plate feeder at its base that directly loads trucks. This provides the mine with a haulage system with enough surge capacity to remove the interdependency between trucks and loaders. The plate feeder is situated just off the decline which creates the opportunity to use larger more reliable, lower cost trucks. A number of truck types were considered for the truck loop including Elphinstone AD55Æs which are the truck type being used on site prior to the truck loop, CAT 775EÆs and power trailer road trains. This paper covers the philosophy behind the truck loop, the truck selection process, project installation and commissioning, people issues and the benefits expected by the operation. As of May 2002, the project is nearing completion, with decline haulage expected to commence in July 2002.

During 2009 the technical services staff at Barrick Gold Corporation's Australian Business Unit conducted a review of their five underground mines that utilise pastefill as the backfill component for these operations. Of the five mines reviewed three use dry tailings and two use wet tailings plants. The primary aim for these reviews was to determine whether pastefill was the right option to be used, and if not, what where the alternatives. The reviews undertaken focus on several areas including, paste plant operation, reticulation and barricade techniques, the geotechnical requirements for pastefill in regards to the current mining methods, the consideration of alternative methods, capital and operating cost histories compared to initial estimates, and a cost benefit analysis of pastefill against other mining methods. The main benefits from the use of pastefill is increasing the extraction of the resource, reducing or eliminating the need to leave pillars. In some mines the use of pastefill is geotechnically driven, to manage high stress environments or mining induced seismicity. A third benefit of using pastefill in some circumstances is that it reduces dilution, however it is considered that this is not a valid argument for most of the mines reviewed. At two mines no alternative to pastefill was determined, whilst differing extraction and filling strategies were potentially identified at the other three mines. The reviews developed cost benefit curves for those sites that had alternative mining methods to assist in determining whether pastefill is the right option to use for any particular stope. At the grades typically mined in each operation, pastefill was the preferred option to use. In all mines, pastefill was determined to be the best option at this time.

The paper will review the marked upsurge in the installation of new continuous metal coating lines, both hot dip and electrodeposition. Although some of this new capacity has been replacement for obsolete facilities or directed at traditional markets, eg building products, consumer durables etc, by far the major portion is targeted at the automotive industry. The reasons for the rapid growth of coated automobile panels are discussed. A comparison of the installed capacity with projections for this market indicate that a severe over-supply situation has arisen. Many coatings are now available for the automotive industry, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but none as yet wholly satisfactory. Coating development has mainly been cost driven. This favours hot dipped coatings, providing surface quality and pressing problems can be overcome. The high cost per unit thickness of electrodeposited coatings has also seen pure zinc coatings being replaced by thinner, more corrosion resistant alloy coatings such as zinc-nickel and zinc-iron. Recently resin overlays have been introduced to improve the performance of electrodeposited coatings. Developments in coatings for the more traditional markets will be described. The fastest growing market in the last decade has been prepainted product for the building industry. This has led to the installation of extra painting capacity and again it appears an excess capacity situation has occurred. Over the same period the traditional zinc coatings have continued to lose market share to the zinc/aluminium alloy coatings, Galvalume and Galfan. These have been joined recently by '1'aiyo Crack-Free which has been taken up by some metal coaters. Galvalume is now widely accepted as being the best available coating for unpainted applications. It is also suggested that 'spin-off' coatings from automotive developments might find a niche in the consumer durable market. The end users of coated products, particularly the automotive industry, have demanded improvements in quality, such as surface smoothness, formability, etc. At the same time the new coating lines have to process wider strip and run at faster speeds. To reconcile these somewhat incompatible needs has required numerous process improvements, many of which need in-line instrumentation and computer control. The more important of these changes are discussed briefly. Finally the paper will describe the recent developments which have occurred in continuous galvanising in Australia and put them into context with the rest of the world.

The evolution of economic precious metal and copper-gold deposits in high-level igneous terranes is dependent on very efficient fluid focussing. This is most readily achieved by contemporaneous deformation, igneous intrusion and hydrothermal activity. Mineralisation in these environments generally occurs in fault and fault-vein arrays developed in the cover sedimentary and volcanics sequences above older regional scale fault systems. Such reactivated fault systems an particularly prone to developing the complex fracture arrays, extreme local dilation and dramatic increases in permcahilit} that are necessary to efficiently focus hydrothermal fluid and produce large mineral deposits.

It is anticipated that many future uranium mines in Australia will be using the in situ leaching mining process. It is fair to say that close to one third of uranium production will be generated by this method, whilst the other two thirds will fall on the uranium generated from hard rock mining and other mining methods, such as traditional open cut mining. For other types of deposits the in situ leaching mining method will remain the best technological, commercial and environmental alternative. It is important to identify and prevent all risks involved in uranium mining. The expertise in this subject is limited. Over the years there was only one mine using the in situ leaching process for uranium extraction in Australia. Computer simulation of propagation of leachate during and after the uranium in situ leaching is a crucial factor, not only for addressing the environmental concerns, but also for the most efficient recovery of the deposit. The decontamination can be modelled for a period of up to 100 years, with the acid neutralisation forecast for a period of up to 400 years. The results of the modelling are paramount for definition of the reserves, efficiency of the mining method and the environmental impact statement. The accuracy of the hydrogeological modelling and carefully selected environmental management program enables a mining company to quantify and minimise the impact of the mining activities on the regional aquifer and to prevent environmental disasters. In the study, the completed hydrogeological model allowed the client, the authorities and the community to make an informed decision about the environmental impact of the in situ leaching of uranium. In particular, the model proved that neither during the mining, nor during the neutralisation the toxic elements would interact with the local catchment area.

Grinding media is a major consumable in mineral processing and therefore decreasing costs associated with its consumption is regularly considered a key goal for the minerals processing industry. Grinding media manufacturers have historically developed steels with improved wear life for their products as a way of delivering incremental media quality improvement. This has included increasing carbon levels from low-to-medium carbon steels up to the eutectoid carbon composition of 0.77% where the relationship between higher carbon and better wear performance is well understood. Producers today will regularly use grades in excess of 0.8% to further improve wear performance particularly for rolled grinding media.This paper first introduces the demonstrated relationship between this increased carbon content and improved wear resistance along with metallurgical rationale behind the high carbon production process and limitations. To test the performance improvement associated with the higher carbon steel grade, a series of Marked Ball Wear Tests (MBWT) were carried out. This paper also explores the relationship between ball properties, test methodology and wear performance and concludes by correlating increased carbon grade with a reduced consumption rate of between 3.1% and 6.1% in the tests conducted.CITATION:Bovell, M, Bose, R and Cheong, G, 2018. A forecast of mining conditions in Upper Silesia collieries for the beginning of the 21st century has special focus on average depth of mining, energy of seismic tremors induced by mining and energy of dynamic loads on roadway supports. A method of dynamic loads calculation is based on volume of failed rock surrounding an opening and the seismic energy of tremors anticipated. New types of yielding steel arch supports have been designed to resist massive static and dynamic loads and a system of supports has been tested both on 1 : 10 scale models and in natural size. The support sections used are 29, 36 and 44 kg/m.

Currently there are large reserves of good quality iron ore near to existing infrastructure that are not being developed because the phosphorous levels are above acceptable market specifications. Since the high phosphorous content is considered to be mainly associated with the goethite fractions of the ore, attempts were made to leach the phosphorous from the ore after a heat treatment to dehydroxylate the goethite. Heating the ore and leaching with 40 g/L NaOH lowered the phosphorous levels from 0.145 wt per cent P to 0.075 wt per cent P or lower, but a heating temperature over 800¦C was required to achieve this reduction in phosphorous levels. However, when sodium hydroxide was added to the iron ore before the heat treatment, similar phosphorous removal was achieved with a heating temperature of 300 - 350¦C. It was considered that dehydroxylation of the goethite in the presence of the hydroxide makes the phosphorous available for removal with a water leach. As well, 50 per cent of the silica and 60 per cent of the alumina in the ore were also removed in the leach, but some sodium remained in the leach product. Further work is required to remove the residual sodium to produce a marketable product.

The New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) is a proven concept for the safe and economic construction of underground facilities. This is especially true for tunnelling activity where changing ground conditions are often encountered. However, the principles central to the NATM have gained only limited use within Australia, presumably due to the measurement process inter- fering with tunnel driving and the cost associated with instrumentation and interpre- tation expertise. The design and operating principles of two basic instruments are explained together with laboratory simulated test results and suggest- ions for use in an integrated NATM style approach to underground excavation and construc- tion. The two instruments monitor load in rock reinforcement and deformation in rock or primary and secondary linings. The instruments may be fitted with a miniature display module which outputs the measured parameter in engineering units directly. The design of the sensing components allows the instruments to be installed in various configurations suitable for routine performance monitoring, quality control, support element testing or detailed investigations. The display module which reduces the need for instrumenta- tion expertise should suit contractors and allow performance data to be obtained which quickly may be used to modify support procedures to suit ground conditions. When complemented by convergence measurements the devices enable most facets of the NATM to be implemented.

Simulation can play an important role in the design, optimization and control of complete industrial processes, the most appropriate method depending on the particular application. Most commonly, process models or simulators are means of representing the process which are either purely mathematical or physical. Mathematical models, however, almost invariably need to be based to some extent on experimental data or require experimental verification before they can be used with confidence. Ways in which experimental and mathematical modelling techniques can be combined to best effect are discussed, with reference to the simulation of iron ore induration and direct reduction processes. A novel method is presented for the simulation of direct reduction shaft furnaces. Small scale apparatus has been developed in which ore or pellet samples are subjected to the changing environment of the industrial process. The time dependent conditions (solid temperature and gas compositions) are provided by a mathematical representation of heat transfer and the conservation of mass and energy in the process Simulated.

A consistent and reliable international approach to public reporting of a mining companyÆs main assets, its Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves, has become of increasing importance in recent years with the rapid globalisation of the mining industry. Through the efforts of the Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO), a committee representing national resource/reserve reporting committees in Australia, South Africa, UK/Ireland/Western Europe, Canada, USA and Chile, the reporting standards in most æwesternÆ countries use almost identical resource and reserve definitions and are generally around 90 - 95 per cent compatible. New codes based on the CRIRSCO model are being developed or considered in other countries, including Peru and the Philippines. This unified approach has provided the mining industry, regulators and investors with a common framework to report and interpret mineral resource and reserve estimates, thereby facilitating funding to the mining industry through improved investor understanding and confidence. The common reporting standards are reflected in the CRIRSCO International Template, available on CRIRSCOÆs web site, a document that is kept æliveÆ by reflecting the best of the most recently published CRIRSCO-type national standards. In a significant exception to this unified industry approach, the USA Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) requires adherence to its own standard, only partly compatible with CRIRSCO-type standards, with adverse and costly implications for companies listed in the USA. A major industry submission was presented to SEC in April 2005 which, if accepted, would bring about considerable compatibility of CRIRSCO and SEC standards. The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE) has, since 1992, been developing its Framework Classification (UNFC) as a single global system for harmonising all existing national and international resource/reserve reporting systems, covering both government and industry requirements and both the hydrocarbon and solid minerals sectors. While few mining companies report their resources and reserves using the UNFC, the system is accepted or is being examined as a basis for reporting by some governments, including those of Russia, China and India. The UN-ECE agreed in 1999 to incorporate CRIRSCO definitions into the UNFC for those categories of resources and reserves used for market-related reporting, but a more recent edition of the UNFC removed or changed the definitions, requiring re-engagement by CRIRSCO to ensure compatibility. Since 2005, CRIRSCO and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) have been involved in discussions with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), which plans to develop a new Accounting Standard for the Extractive Industries as part of its International Financial Reporting Standards. At the request of the IASB, CRIRSCO and SPE have been examining any potential for convergence of resource/reserve definitions between the mining and hydrocarbon industries. Each of these systems is described in this paper and high level comparisons made.

"In today’s mining industry, the pressure of reducing costs and increasing production while maintaining high safety standards is at the forefront of operational endeavours. A combination of specific mining knowledge and technological advances has helped enable this notion. Fleet management systems have been developed to enable sites to better measure and manage production to improve operational efficiency.The integral part to managing production is having accurate, readily accessible data. This empowers key stakeholders in the management team to drive production reporting, materials tracking and budget forecasting.If a site does not run a fleet management system, manual input is heavily relied upon for production data, which introduces increased risk of human input error. Errors can drive outcomes that don’t achieve increased production at a reduced cost. Alternatively, a fleet management system can have improved accuracy but involves a high monetary investment. Such an investment is not always feasible for smaller mining operations subject to current industry cost pressures.The Emeco Operating System has been developed in alliance with sites such as the Mungari White Foil Operations by satisfying the criteria of a low intensity hardware installation, material tracking data validation processes, remote monitoring, identification of metrics to improve overall operating efficiency and providing the right information to key stakeholders.Citation:Beckman, R, Elms, T and Sampson, M, 2016. A bulk analyser based on the gamma-ray resonance scattering process can be used to give a rapid and accurate measure of the percentage by weight of copper or nickel averaged over a large mass of sample, typi- cally 20 kg. It is shown that for a bulk sample containing about 3 wt.% Cu, crushing to -25 mm is the only sample preparation requited for analysis to within an error of about 0.06 wt.% Cu (errors quoted are one standard deviation). A comparison of bulk analyser and con- ventional assays on the same bulk samples can be used to estimate the sample preparation errors in the conventional methods. The squared deviations between bulk analyser and conventional assays are approximated by the sum of variances in sample preparation, conventional analysis, and bulk sample analy- sis. The sample preparation error was esti- mated as 0.26 wt.% Cu for samples crushed to -2 mm before splitting, 0.08 wt.% Cu for samples crushed to -0.35 mm before splitting, and 0.04 wt.% Cu for the average of 15 grab samples from bulk samples which had been crushed to -2 mm. The average copper grade for each group of samples was about 1.7 wt.%. Results are presented which show that
