The Gulf Coast of southern Louisiana during the year of 1940 was subjected to an extensive exploration and development campaign, as a result of which 16 oil fields and about 38 new producing sands were found. Although this record of discovery appears in keeping with the rate of 1939 actually in amount of new proven reserves, it may fall short of that of the previous year. Only five or six of the discoveries rated as first-class or important fields at the close of the year. The most prominent new fields opened during the year were Neale field in Beaure-gard Parish, the West Cote Blanche field in St. Mary Parish, the Stella field and the West Bay field in Plaquemines Parish, and the Lake Salvador field in St. Charles Parish. There were many important oil-sand discoveries in proven fields, such as in the Bayou Perot field, the Golden Meadows field, the Iowa field, West Lake Verrett field, and the Venice field. During the year, 1047 weUs were drilled in southern Louisiana, of which 768 were completed as oil-producing wells, 17 as gas wells and 262 as dry holes. The Neale field in northwest Beauregard Parish is considered one of the most important discoveries of the year. The f~eld centers around the north half of sec. 26, 'Y.3 S., R.I I W., just north of the town of Neale. It was discovered by the Atlantic Refining Co., using reflection seismograph to locate the structure. Production was found in the second well drilled in the Wilcox sand on the downthrown side of a fault. The structure is known as the "Tepetate" type, being similar to that of the well-known Tepetate field. There were 12 oil wells and 3 dry holes drilled during the year. The Wilcox sand in this field occurs between 8350 and 8400 ft. and averages 30 ft. in thickness. The West Cote Blanche Bay field, in West Cote Blanche Bay, St. Mary Parish, is a 1940 discovery by the Texas Company, credited to reflection seismograph exploration. The oil is from two sands occurring at 3110 to 3140 ft. and from 4950 to 5020 it. Four wells were drilled during the year, three oil wells and one dry hole. The deepest hole drilled reached 9491 ft. without encountering salt or dome material. In Plaquemines Parish, south of New Orleans, the California company has a new field known as the Stella field. The sand was found at a depth of 7485 ft., and 5 ft. of perforations made a well capable of producing 486 bbl. of oil in 24 hr. through a 9.is-in. choke. The oil is 42" gravity. The discovery well was drilled to a total depth of 10,258 ft. and other producing sands were indicated. A good field appears assured, although only one well was completed within the year. The Lake Salvador field, in the center of Lake Salvador, St. Charles Parish, gives promise of being one of the most important discoveries of the year. The discovery well was perforated at 9775 to 9800 ft. making 850 bbl. of 33.7° gravity oil daily through a 1/4-in. choke. PETROLEUM and natural gas are composed principally of the saturated hydrocarbons ranging from methane, the lightest, to nonvolatile liquids and solids containing approximately thirty-five carbon atoms. A technique for locating buried accumulations of these hydrocarbons before drilling obviously requires that some of the hydrocarbons leave the deposit and migrate toward the surface of the earth where they may be detected in their original form. Earliest attempts to link near surface hydrocarbons to petroleum at depth were apparently made by Laubmeyer1 in Germany and by Sokolov2 in Russia. These investigators collected samples of soil air from boreholes one to two meters deep and analyzed them for traces of hydrocarbons. They found that soil air over producing areas is richer in these constituents than is soil air over barren areas.

In this chapter there is a wide difference in the meaning of some words used for rock and mineral names as defined by scientists and tabulated in the "Glossary of Geology and Related Sciences," published in 1957 by the American Geological Institute, and the meaning as used by the commercial producers of feldspar. It is necessary, therefore, to define these terms giving both the "scientific" and the "practical" definitions. There is no ambiguity about the name feldspar itself. This is a general term for a group of related minerals which are silicates of aluminum, combined with sodium, potassium and calcium. The feldspars are the most abundant minerals of the igneous rocks, and since these rocks make up the largest proportion of the earth's crust by volume (although not of the actual surface area of the continental land masses) the feldspars are the most abundant minerals of all. The igneous rocks themselves are classified on the basis of the variety of the feldspar present. The potash feldspars, which are called orthoclase and microcline, are the dominant minerals of the granites and syenites, and of their fine grained equivalents, the rhyolites and trachites. The plagioclase feldspars form an isomorphic series, of which the sodic endmember is called albite, and the lime endmember, anorthite. The members near the sodic end, albite, oligoclase and andesine are the characteristic feldspars of the granodiorites and diorites, and of their fine grained equivalents, the dacites, and andesites. These feldspars-orthoclase, microcline, albite oligoclase and andesine-are the feldspars used commercially. Labradorite, a member of the plagioclase group, in which the lime exceeds the soda in the chemical composition, is the common feldspar of the gabbros, anorthosites, norites, basalts and other so-called "basic" rocks. Although some attempts have been made to use labradorite as a commercial feldspar, none is now used except as an ornamental stone. The mineral anorthite is very rare. Since the feldspar in most of the common igneous rocks is relatively fine grained, and mixed intimately with other minerals, from which it can be separated cleanly only with difficulty, most masses of the common rocks cannot be used as sources for the feldspar contained in them. It is only the rarer types of rocks in which the feldspar is very coarse-grained, or ones containing very little of the iron-bearing minerals which are objectionable impurities in commercial feldspar, that are quarried to yield an acceptable product. The most widespread type of such a rock from which commercial feldspar can be produced, is that called "pegmatite." These rocks are dikes and bodies of irregular shape and of a size measured in feet or yards in most cases, rather than in miles. They are more commonly associated with granites, rather than with other coarse-grained igneous rocks. Many of them contain crystals of various minerals, including the feldspars, that are much larger than are found in the host rock, the granite, and in many there are large masses of feldspar that are sufficiently free from iron-bearing silicates so that products acceptable to the ceramic industry can be produced, in some cases simply by hand sorting. Most of this feldspar in pegmatites, however, does contain intergrown quartz up to 25 pct. SINCE the Saar started. the real progress in scrap-metal recover is in the change of point of view regarding secondary metals. The tendency had been to regard scrap as the normal outgrowth of obsolescence, fluctuating somewhat from periods of depression to periods of prosperity. but nevertheless an unwieldy economic factor more to be contended with than embraced. Now, metals above the ground are being looked upon as semi-permanent reserves or stock piles in various stages of repeated use or revolving life cycles. The change in point of view is due to the forced realization that domestic supplies of new metals are limited and many foreign sources are at least temporarily closed. The stock piles must be cultivated. The reserves must be made more nearly permanent. Steps are being taken : (1) develop methods for recovery of scrap metals heretofore not recovered, and (2) restrict strategic metals to uses ensuring a large percentage of re-use, which in turn means substitute materials in the dissipative uses.

Development and production activity in Oklahoma during the year 1940 was of routine nature. Production, according to the Corporation Commission's figures, averaged 409,100 bbl. daily as compared with 421,000 bbl. for the year 1939. Discoveries were of minor importance except for the Cumberland pool in Marshall and Bryan Counties, in the southern part of the state. Maintenance of a relatively stable producing rate is attributable to the drilling of new wells and the recompletion of many old wells in the previously established producing areas. During the year 1785 new wells were drilled, a decline of approximately 10 per cent as compared with the previous year. Of the wells drilled, 962 were oil wells with a combined initial production of 241,000 bbl. daily, 172 were gas wells having aggregate capacities of 1205 million cu. ft., and 651 were dry holes. Wildcat activity increased 20 per cent over 1939 and 227 such wells were completed during the year; that isl 43 oil wells, 16 gas wells, and 168 dry holes. In addition to the new work completed, 603 wells were recorded as having been drilled deeper or plugged back to test new horizons; included were 334 producing wells with total initial production of 65,000 bbl. daily, 37 gas wells with initial aggregating 305 million cu. ft., and 232 abandonments. Footage drilled amounted to 4,730,000 ft., an average of 2650 ft. per well as com-pared with an average depth of 2600 ft. recorded the previous year. The principal new pools discovered as a result of the exploratory drilling were Cumberland; East Cromwell, in Okfuskee County, and Prague, in Lincoln County. At the end of the year Cumberland had 13 completed wells, which averaged 700 bbl. initial through tubing from the Simpson Bromide formation (Ordovician) at 4750 ft. East Cromwell had 10 wells with average initial of 435 bbl. in the Cromwell sand (Pennsylvanian) at 3460 ft. Prague had II wells with an initial average of 220 bbl. from the Senora sand (Pennsylvanian) at 3260 ft. There were notable extensions to the Dill pool, Okfuskee County, and to the Hewitt pool, Carter County. At the end of the year, 19 producing wells had been drilled in the former, with initials averaging 1000 bbl., and 63 wells averaging 150 bbl. daily in the latter. There were no notable changes in the policy of State conservation authorities with respect to proration. The Bureau of Mines recommendations for the year averaged 413,000 bbl. daily; the State author-ities fixed allowables at an average of 406,000 bbl. daily, while, as noted above, production averaged 409,100 barrels. The most important development in the older areas occurred in the following pools: Billings.—Seven oil wells with an average initial production of 2500 bbl. and two dry holes were completed during the year. Production from the Simpson horizon averaged 6025 bbl. daily as compared with 5950 the previous year. Production from this field has been almost steady since reaching its peak early in 1937. LEAD POISONING as a result of eating lead pellets deposited in marsh areas is a cause of high mortality among ducks, geese, and other waterfowl ingested lead shot become trapped in the gizzard with gravel and are slowly ground away by the grit. Absorption of lead as it passes through the intestine in a finely divided state produces severe lead poisoning which is usually fatal. Ducks and geese with lead poisoning develop first a typical green diarrhea. Later, paralysis of the wing muscles prevents flight. As the poisoning continues with further grinding of the shot trapped in the gizzard, increasing paralysis reduces the bird to helpless-

This article presents a general equation describing the xYt surface in batch grinding. This equation contains as special cases most of the relationships which have been deduced from kinetic studies. In an earlier paper an analytical solution of the integro-differential equation of batch grinding was proposed1 as a first approximation of the xYt surface.' A more general equation will be presented here, which appears to combine in a single statement many conclusions reached by experiment. A possible underlying mechanism is that the changing product fineness leads to changes in the particle crushing strength and in the probability of encounter with the crushing media.

The mineral mica, which has been known to man since ancient times, has played an impor¬tant role in the development of our modern industry. In the latter part of the 19th century sheet mica began finding use as a dielectric insulating material in the newly developing electrical industry. Later, when modern elec¬tronics began to develop, it became a vital insulating and dielectric material for use in electronic equipment. Both the electrical and electronic industries were greatly dependent on some form of natural mica. The manufacture of electric motors of varying sizes, electronic tubes, and other electronic items was dependent on an adequate supply of sheet mica. During World War II this material was so vital to national defense that special efforts were made to mine it in the United States as well as to obtain it from overseas mica-producing areas. However, advancing technology has successfully begun the progressive development of man-made mica-based and non-mica-based materials that can replace mica for many uses. In addition, developing technology has dictated changes that have made sheet mica unnecessary for some uses. As the demand for sheet mica declined, the demand for scrap and flake mica has continued to increase. In fact, today the domestic production and use of scrap and flake mica far outshadows the necessity for good¬quality sheet mica in this country. Historically the United States has always been dependent on foreign sources of material for good-quality sheet mica and imports practically its entire requirement. In the case of scrap and flake mica, the United States is the dominant world producer and consumer. End Uses Sheet mica (Chowdhury, 1941; Rajgarhia, 1951; Skow, 1962) is available in many com¬mercial forms, but these forms can be broadly classified into manufactured and unmanufac¬tured mica. Manufactured mica consists of mica that has been shaped, punched, or other¬wise processed into some form, suitable for a particular end use. Unmanufactured mica con¬sists of partially hand-trimmed or processed material that has not been prepared for any particular end use. Unmanufactured mica is broken into two commercial classes consisting of sheet mica and scrap and flake mica. These classes of mica differ greatly in their ultimate end uses and marketed forms. Sheet muscovite mica can be classified by color, degree of prep¬aration of the crude material, thickness, size, visual appearance, and electrical quality. In addition, phlogopite mica is also classified by its thermal stability. Scrap and flake mica consist of mine, trimming shop, and factory scrap that occurs as remnants from mining, processing, and manufacturing operations, and small particle size mica that is available from the beneficiation of pegmatites, clays, schists, or other mica-rich host rock. The end uses for sheet mica vary so greatly from those of scrap and flake mica that it is necessary to discuss them separately. Sheet Mica Sheet mica consists of relatively flat sheets of material which have been mined as naturally occurring books or runs of mica. These sheets are hand-trimmed to remove any imperfections and are punched or stamped into specified shapes for industrial use. Sheet mica can be further processed and is described or specified as block, film, or splittings based on thickness. Block mica is not less than 0.007 in. thick with a minimum usable cross-sectional area of 1 sq in. Film mica is split from the better quali¬ties of block mica to specified thickness groups ranging from 0.0012 to 0.004 in. USE of oxygen in metallurgical operations was investigated by a committee of unusually able engineers more than ten years ago. A record of their work appeared under the title "The Use of Oxygen or Oxygenated Air in Metallurgical and Allied Processes," Serial 2502, Report of Investigations, U. S. Bureau of Mines. Shortly thereafter the A.I.M.E. published "Use of Oxygenated Air in Metallurgical Operations," based on a symposium at the New York meeting, February 1, 924. Quoting from the Bureau of Mines report In view of the many recent developments in oxygen manufacture, and considering the increasing cost and decreasing quality of our raw materials, the Bureau of Mines has taken the matter of the application of oxygen or oxygenated air to the metallurgical centers for consideration and has appointed an advisory committee to study the problem.

OWING largely to its value as a toughener and strengthener of steel for both industrial and military purposes, nickel is playing, an important role in the current war. It is fine of the metals in which the Allies enjoy a definite edge over the Axis nations and this time there is no place to which the Germans may send another submarine "Deutsehland" and expect to pick up a cargo of nickel to replenish their exhausted supplies. Total world nickel production thanks almost entirely to the expanded operation of the International Nickel Co. of Canada at Sudbury must now be at the rate of around 175,000 tons a year scarcely more than 5 per cent of which is accounted for by Germany, Italy and Japan. This represents more than four times the world output at the end of the first World War.

In the pellet-producing industry it is sometimes claimed that "The pellets are made in the concentrator," or that "The key to good pellets is in the balling operation." However, one claim is generally agreed on: If you can put in, on, and through the indurating furnace a good green ball of Proper size and adequate strength to withstand the handling, load, dehydration, and thermal shock until it is properly heat-hardened, you will have the pellet product you desire-that is, a "competent" green ball. The strength requirements that enable a competent green ball to withstand the environment of the indurating furnace are usually less restrictive than those for transporting the green ball from its source of production to the furnace. Experience has shown that different types of material may have different balling characteristics which may impose limitations on the quality of the green ball that can easily be produced under normal conditions. Therefore, if a specific material will produce a green ball that meets the physical requirements for competency in the furnace, but not for handling or transportation, various practices must be instituted to overcome this deficiency. In other words, if a normal handling system is too rigorous for the green balls that can be produced under standard conditions, then "handling with care" should be tried.

FOR a considerable number of years past, there has been a shortage of experienced coal miners at the coal mine of the Phelps-Dodge Corp. This is probably due, to some extent, to the mines being so far south of the main western coal producing regions, so that experienced men secure employment before reaching this point. These mines are at Dawson, New Mexico, which is in Colfax County, near the Colorado line. The district is known as the Raton field, and the seam being worked is known as the Raton or Blossburg seam. The mines operated are Nos. 1 to 6, 8 and 9. The daily out- put at the present time, with restricted operations, is about 4000 tons, but the daily capacity is about 5500 tons. The mines are so grouped that the coal is dumped over four tipples. The mines are about twenty-five years old and extend as much as three miles under ground; they are all drift openings, with trolley, storage battery, and mule haulage. At the same time that the shortage of miners existed there was a surplus of common labor seeking employment. We learned that the Copper Queen. Branch of Phelps Dodge Corp. conducted a training school in one of its mines which had worked out very satisfactorily, and thus gained the idea of attempting such a school in the coal mines at Dawson.

A computer program was written to predict the phase behavior generated by the enriched-gas-drive process. This program is based, in part, on a new concept of convergence pressme, which is then used to select vapor - liquid equilibrium ratios (K-factors) for performing a series of flash calculations. The results of these calculations are the equilibrium vapor and liquid phase compositions which define the phase envelopes. The program was used to predict phase envelopes for 11 different hydrocarbon systems on which published experimental data were available. The predicted and experimental results compare favorably. INTRODUCTION The reservoir engineer is frequently faced with the problem of predicting what will happen if gas is injected into a reservoir. One aspect of this, general problem is predicting the phase changes that will occur when a non-equilibrium gas displaces a reservoir fluid. In particular, a "dry" gas, upon displacing a volatile oil, will pick up intermediate components from the oil. On the other hand, a "wet" gas, containing a high concentration of intermediates, will lose some of these components to a relatively low-gravity, non-eouilibrium1- crude. It is this latter Drocess. occurring in the enriched-gas displacement, which is treated in this paper. In the past, these phase changes have been determined experimentally and the results incorporated into various modifications of the Buckley-Leverett analysis.112 Such experimental work is time consuming, and the results are sensitive to numerous experimental errors. With the wide availability of high-speed digital computing equipment and numerous correlations pertaining to the vapor-liquid equilibria of hydrocarbon systems, it is now practical to calculate such phase behavior. This paper describes a computer program for performing these calculations. THE ENRICHED GAS DISPLACEMENT PROCESS Experimental results have shown that oil recovery can be significantly increased by enriching the displacing gas with intermediate hydrocarbon c0m~onents.3 The essential features of the phase behavior generated by this enriched-gas-drive process are commonly illustrated with ternary diagrams such as Fig. 1.4 In this figure, Gas D, which contains a high concentration of intermediate hydrocarbons with respect to the undersaturated Crude A, is injected into the reservoir. When D contacts A, gas goes into solution until the oil becomes saturated (Point. B). Further contacting of Gas D and saturated Oil B results in a Mixture C which separates into Vapor Y(c) and Liquid X(c). Liquid X(c) is contacted by additional Gas O, resulting in Mixture E which separates into Vapor Y(e) and Liquid X(e). Repeated contacts of the liquid by the injected gas will eventually result in Liquid X(4 of maximum enrichment existing in equilibrium with Gas Y(d). The equilibrium tie-line X(4 Y(4, when extended, passes through the Point D representing the enriched injection gas. IN the United States, in the 2 1/2 years since the rescinding of the wartime order closing gold mines, conditions have not yet returned to normal. Shortages of man power have prevented some mines from operating at all, and most of those in operation are still at reduced capacity. This fact, combined with shortages of materials, the high cost of supplies and labor, high tax rates, and a fixed price for the product have made the past years rather rough ones for gold producers. In foreign countries conditions are rather similar. In Canada several new mines are coming into production and some others are enlarging. Costs have not increased as much as in the United States and gold production is being encouraged. Recently a bonus of 20 per cent on increased production has been proposed. In South Africa, where gold mining is of major importance in the national economy the industry is also in a favored position with government; new discoveries of major importance there will markedly increase the gold output. THE influence of cobalt and nickel on the properties of steel might be readily expected to be very similar. The two elements occupy close and somewhat unusual positions in the periodic table, their chemical behavior and compounds are so completely analogous and their various physical properties, including the ferro-magnetic characteristic, show such a remarkable correspondence, that there is no doubt of a strong resemblance existing between these two metals. However, the variety of, properties that are obtained from steel is due, largely to the fact that the element iron possesses allotropic forms. Alloying elements that affect these allotropic forms, or alter the nature of the allotropic changes, exert a profound influence on the resulting steel. In the case of nickel and cobalt, although these elements are very similar chemically and physically, it is found that they differ distinctly in their individual effects on the critical points of iron. Both nickel and cobalt form a series of homogeneous solid solutions with iron at temperatures above 1800° F. The difference in their behavior does not occur until changes begin to take place in the solid state below this temperature. An inspection of the respective thermal equilibrium diagrams at the lower temperatures makes the opposite effects of nickel and cobalt clearly evident.

DURING the last year or so, with higher prices for gold and silver, many old properties in the West have come back to life. Almost every profitable producer in the old days has been considered, and the reasons for its shut-down investigated. If it seems likely that modern ore-finding, mining, and metallurgical methods, and S35 gold can again put the property on a profitable basis, someone can usually be found to back the venture. Methods of rejuvenation vary with the property, of course, but the following outline of what has been done with one group of mines in Idaho is fairly typical and may be suggestive to others. The Golden Chariot gold-silver properties, near Silver City, consist of seven old mines, working a vein system striking north and south, which had a productive length of some 3500 ft. The vein is a quartz-filled fissure with granite walls. Gold occurs in native, and with silver in the form of electrum which is the natural alloy of the two metals. The present day success of gravel packs to prevent or retard the migration of unconsolidated sands into the well bore is due to: (I) the use of a saline or non-aqueous, nonsolids drill fluid, (2) proper preparation of the well bore prior to gravel packing, and (3) pressure placement of the gravel. The experience gained from the "pressure pack" method of gravel packing indicates that sand-free fluid production can be maintained for a length of time sufficient to make the operation economically attractive. Data pertaining to the first 15 wells so completed by Gulf indicate that for each dollar spent to effect the completion, there will be a return of more than $2.92. The pressure pack technique of gravel packing is essentially the placing of gravel in and adjacent to the producing formations. This is done with fluid pressure and by the use of a drill fluid that will permit partial or complete loss of returns to the formation during placement. This technique was first intentionally used by Gulf in May, 1950, and since that time has been applied in more than 90 wells. Other advantages claimed for this type of completion are that the pressure placement of the gravel has a scouring effect on the casing perforations, that additional drainage channels to the well bore are created, and that the possibility of shifting of the formations adjacent to the casing is minimized and possibly prevented. During the past few years, the use of gravel to prevent or retard the migration of unconsolidated sands into the well bore has met with a favorable degree of success. Numerous methods and techniques of "gravel packing" have been used, each having its own relative merits, and with varying results. M. L. Cashion1 in 1939 ably reviewed the history of gravel packing to that time. As stated in his paper, ". .. the idea of gravel packing wells is not new." During the period 1939 to 1949, very little if any progress or change in technique in this type of completion was made. However, it was noted in some cases that during the placement of gravel, if there was a loss of drill fluid to the formation, there was a corresponding loss of gravel to the formation. Also, it was noted that in those gravel-packed completions (opposite casing perforations) that "sanded up," there was found to be an absence of gravel in the annular space between the liner and casing, although gravel had previously been placed in this space and no gravel had been removed from the well at the surface. These findings resulted in the placement of gravel with fluid pressure and by the use of a drill fluid that would permit partial or complete loss of returns to the formation during placement. Pressure placement of gravel became an accepted practice in late 1949 and early 1950. Another fact brought to light that has contributed to the current success of gravel pack completions is that drilling fluids containing solids will to some extent cause plugging of the screening medium or blocking of the producing section. This paper discusses the design and calibration of a Faraday pail for measuring electric charge. The paper also shows that at least for two minerals, quartz and calcite, the phenomenon that Johnson termed "reversibility" can be explained in terms of the contact electrification between the minerals and the metal rotor of an electrostatic machine. Each year the free world produces about 13 million tons of mineral concentrates by electrical separation. However, despite the rather general acceptance of electrical concentration as an industrial process, research in this area has lagged far behind the efforts devoted to competitive processes such as froth flotation. The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and calibration of a Faraday ice pail for measuring charge density on mineral grains and to show some of its applications in the area of electrostatic and electrodynamic research. THE DESIGN AND CALIBRATION OF FARADAY PAILS FOR ABSOLUTE CHARGE MEASUREMENT The electric charge on mineral grains at a given time during an electrical concentration process is de- pendent on many factors and cannot, in general, be accurately calculated a priori. It is thus important to devise a method of measuring absolute charge. One method of measuring electric charge is to note the potential rise of an electrometer when charged particles drop into a Faraday pail. Two types of Faraday pail have been constructed and calibrated. The first type, Faraday Pail I (Fig. 1), is a vertical pail originally designed to measure the charge due to contact electrification between mineral grains and a metal rotor or due to conductive induction when mineral grains are passed over a rotating cylinder in the presence of an electric field. The second type, labeled Faraday Pail II (Fig. 2), is a horizontal pail designed to determine the charge distribution of mineral grains after they pass through the separating zone of the electrical concentrator shown in Fig. 4. The main advantage of the horizontal pail is its low head-room requirement and the long opening which enables the experimenter to sample the entire width of the stream of minerals being separated. The Faraday pails were calibrated in the following manner: A calibration head was constructed in the form of a hollow brass sphere that could be held in an insulated metal cylinder by vacuum (Fig. 1). The capacitance of the sphere was calculated by measuring the capacitance of the sphere and cylinder combined and that of the cylinder alone and subtracting the latter measurement from the former. The sphere was then charged to a known potential (V) and allowed to drop into the Faraday pail which was attached to a Keithley Model 610A electrometer.
