"Dust collectors are used to reduce airborne dust levels generated during crushing at a mining operation and their adequate maintenance is required to ensure effective control of health and safety hazards associated with dusty conditions. Although the pitot traverse technique is commonly employed to balance these dust collectors, the use of an alternative-the equilibrium concentration tracer gas method-is proposed in this paper. This method, which uses sulphur hexafluoride as a tracer gas, can be used to balance airflows in dust collectors and to determine hood collection efficiency accurately and effectively. This technique also reduces some of the errors inherent to pitot tube measurements. IntroductionIndustrial dust collectors are used to reduce dust genera ted by processes like cru shin g, and these must be periodically checked and balanced to ensure continuing effective control of health and safety hazards associated with dusty conditions.To date, the pitot tub e traverse technique has been commonly used to balance air flows in dust collectors. However, this technique is both time -consuming and cumbersome. The equilibrium concentration tracer gas method, described in this paper, is proposed as a viable alternative as it is faster, more reliable, and amenable to automation. The use of tracer gases for such task s is not new. This approach has been used in a variety of mining situations to determine volumetric flow rates in underground openings, leak age through mine stoppings, the effectiveness of face ventilation, pollution migration patterns, mine air recirculation rates, and rock porosity."

"It is generally felt that flow-through shares face a bleak future under the set of tax rules proposed in the federal government's tax reform white paper. Industry and government circles are beginning to give thought to alternatives to flow through as a mechanism for facilitating equity financing in the exploration industry. Despite suggestions that grants and tax credits may someday be on the table, industry is sticking to its position that there is no substitute for flow-through. Alternatives toFlow-throughProposals in the federal government's tax reform white paper have cast significant doubt on the ability of the mining industry to raise risk capital after 1989by way of flow-through shares. There is serious concern that introduction of the ""cumulative net investment loss"" (CNIL) rules, the phase-out of the mining explorati0! 1 depletion allowance (MEDA), and the Increased capital gains inclusion (750/0 versus 50%, at present) will make the economics of flow-through so unattractive after 1989 that these shares will hold little appeal to most investors. The question might be raised, then, as to what alternatives exist by way of tax or other government assistance that could help the exploration sector.The purpose of this paper is to survey the types of government incentives that could be of some value to explorationists and to the mining industry in general. For the past several years, flow-through has been in the spotlight insofar as incentives to the exploration industry are concerned. Other potentially useful and attractive incentives have been partially hidden in the shadow of flow-through. These incentives, in certain circumstances, can be of considerable benefit, and should not be ignored."

"The paper deals with the impact of fleet imbalance on a deterministic evaluation of shovel fleet productive capacity. It shows that if the fleet imbalance is overlooked, then estimated fleet productive capacity will be overrated.The paper shows that fleet imbalance inflates utilization, and care must be taken when using such statistics which are derived from reported field-equipment-hours. It shows that the utilization must be deflated by a factor called 'balancing efficiency"" in order to estimate shovel productive capacity correctly. The paper also shows how fleet imbalance can be controlled by managing idle time or downtime in an actual operation.The technique used for measuring the balancing efficiency factor is based on statistical analysis of equipment utilization."

"This paper describes a series of wear-resistant ceramic materials which have been successfully used in the mineral processing industry in Canada. Applications include use with metallic ores, coal, potash and asbestos, and in other processes where wear degradation is of major concern. The paper will also deal with considerations involving the selection of the different ceramic materials available. It will cover the installation of ceramic materials on support structures under varying process ' conditions, as well as the other physical and chemical factors which have to be taken into account.IntroductionIn the mineral processing industry, large volumes of ores tailings and other materials are handled. The abrasive nature of most of these materials results in extensive wear to both handling and processing equipment.Wear ratios versus cost, production losses due to down time and wear-resistant material suitability for a given application all demand particular attention when viewed against the need for increased efficiencies in existing processes. As a consequence, a very active continuous search for materials with improved wear resistance has been carried out for many years.In this search, starting about 20 years ago, dense ceramic materials were tested and evaluated in certain applications, notably in the iron ore and asbestos operations in Eastern Canada. As a result of substantially better performance both in continuous extended life and ultimate economics realized , wear-resistant ceramic applications developed progressively in many other processing applications, replacing traditionally used materials.In the vast majority of wear-resistant ceramic applications, considerable extended life over previously used materials was established. This invariably was not just a fractional increase but, in most cases , in factors of double, triple and often all the way up to 18 and 20 times the life of alternative materials used previously. In certain applications, extended life could not be measured and appears to be indefinite.Obviously, as a result of such experiences, the progressively wider use of wear-resistant ceramic materials is now an established trend."

"The mining and mineral industries have been, and remain, a major component of the Canadian economy. There are approximately 560 producing mining establishments of which there are some 130 metal mines and an equal number of non-metal mines, the balance being quarries for stone, sand and gravel. For 17 metals and minerals, Canada ranks within the top five as a world producer. There are 29 metallurgical plants. Employment in mining, smelting and refining was about 150000 in 1990. Mineral production, including coal, is about $20 billion. Exports up to the metal stage amount to $15 billion providing a positive trade balance of some $10 billion.The producing industry has a wide diversity of products. The companies range from small single mining operations to large multinationals. In terms of technology the industry has always been in the forefront of cost-effective practice, either using home-grown innovation or freely importing technology from around the world,The Mining Industry Technology Council (MITEC) makes an annual survey of the exploration and R&D expenditures of the senior mining industry that is the mining companies that are involved in mineral production from their existing mines. It does not include those companies solely involved in exploration using funds raised through equity sales.Table 1 shows the actual R&D and exploration expenditures as a per cent of sales. R&D shows a rising trend since 1988although the drop in value of output due to lower prices must be recognized as contributing to the increase. The point about this compilation is that the mining industry re-invests some 4070 of its sales in both exploration and R&D in order to sustain itself. Exploration for the renewal of metal inventories for future mining is a process unique to mining. It is not classified as R&D, and the necessity for this investment goes unrecognized by those who state that the industry does not do enough R&D."

"Abstract - The Las Cañas stratabound Pb-Zn deposit, in northern Chile, is hosted by the Lower Cretaceous back-arc marine carbonate and subordinate andesitic volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Chañarcillo Group, one hundred meters above a thick pile of magmatic arc-related basaltic to andesitic lavas of the Bandurrias Formation. The deposit is not obviously related to local intrusive rocks, which include an Upper Cretaceous granodiorite batholith and dacite dikes emplaced along normal faults. Stratabound Pb-Zn-Ba mineralization is constrained within several porous stratigraphic units, including a 50 cm thick lapilli-tuff and less well mineralized algal-laminated limestone. Veins that locally carry some Pb-Zn occur along normal faults that displace the stratabound orebodies, and this study shows that they represent a different type of mineralization.Fluid inclusion microthermometric data for ore-stage quartz and barite indicate saline fluids (6 to 30 wt% NaCleq) and a formation temperature in the range of 80°C to 160°C for the stratabound mineralization. Two types of fluid inclusions occur in the veins. The type I vein fluid inclusions indicate less saline (average 7 wt% NaCleq) and slightly higher temperature fluids, in the range of 110°C to 220°C. The type II vein fluid inclusions indicate highly saline fluids (25 to 40 wt% NaCleq) which might be related to minor copper mineralization.206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios for galenas from the stratabound mineralization, with mean values of 18.42, 15.59, and 38.25, respectively, fall within the range of stratabound polymetallic deposits of northern and central Chile, and indicate a Lower Cretaceous magmatic rock source. Galenas from veins have slightly more radiogenic 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios, with mean values of 18.47, 15.61, and 38.34, suggesting two distinct episodes of mineralization.?34S values for galena and barite range from negative values (-31.2‰ to -12.5‰ and -7.7‰ to +12‰, respectively) in the mineralized tuff to higher values in the algal-laminated limestone (-2.5‰ to +1.2‰ and +13.2‰ to +17.4‰, respectively), close to Lower Cretaceous marine sulfate values for barite, and homogeneous values for the galena from veins (-12.0‰ ±1‰). Changing redox conditions can partly account for ?34S variations in the tuff. Sulfur sources include magmatic rock sulfur (-1.5‰ to +9.7‰) as well as sedimentary sulfides and marine sulfate."

"Zinc metal is primarily produced by electrowinning from sulfate solution. Zinc electrowinning is very sensitive to impurities such as Co and Ni. These impurities have to be removed to produce high-quality zinc and maintain a high zinc current efficiency. Zinc dusts are used to remove these impurities by cementation. However cobalt cementation is extremely slow and it is typically activated by the addition of Cu and Sb. Even with the use of Cu-Sb activation, cobalt is still difficult to remove. The zinc dust used for cobalt cementation is negligible compared to that consumed for hydrogen evolution. In some plants up to 6-7% of electrolytic zinc is used for cementation. This is a great waste of energy. Cu-Sb activation is not well understood. The objective of this study was to further understand the Cu-Sb activation and then find a way to reduce hydrogen evolution and promote cobalt cementation. The investigation reveals how hydrogen evolution (or zinc dissolution) and cobalt cementation and re-dissolution change with temperature, zinc dust dosage, the concentrations of copper and antimony and time. In the Cu-Sb activation, copper is deposited on a zinc particle to produce a porous shell. The zinc particle as an anode dissolves while the shell as a cathode provides a place where cobalt cementation and hydrogen evolution occur and they are catalyzed by antimony. A certain level of antimony (around 0.1 mg/L) is a key to maintain the catalytic effect of the shell. At a higher antimony concentration, cobalt cementation is accelerated slightly while hydrogen evolution is increased greatly. When a zinc particle dissolves to a certain degree, cobalt loses its cathodic protection and starts to re-dissolve. The change in cobalt concentration is determined by the rates of cobalt cementation and re-dissolution. The operation conditions can be optimized to maximize the cobalt removal and minimize the zinc dust dosage.INTRODUCTIONMost of the world’s zinc metal is produced by electrowinning from sulfate media. Many impurities such as iron, copper, cobalt and nickel are co-extracted into solution with zinc. Iron, mercury, indium, lead and tin are removed by co-precipitation as hydroxides. Copper, nickel, cobalt, aluminum, arsenic and germanium are partially co-precipitated with iron while cadmium, magnesium and chloride remain in solution. Cobalt, copper, cadmium, nickel and etc. are subsequently removed by cementation with zinc dust to achieve an acceptable current efficiency and high purity metal product for the economical production of zinc. Zinc provides a strong thermodynamic driving force for the cobalt cementation:"

"Hydrometallurgy of copper ores typically involve acid leaching followed by solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX/EW). EW is the final purification stage in which a voltage is applied across two electrodes causing the copper ions to reduce and deposit on the cathode. Applied voltages are near 2 volts with current densities around 300 amps/m2. In this study, research was undertaken to decrease the energy consumed in the EW process. To do this, various cell designs were constructed and tested in which a membrane was used to separate the cathode and anode compartments with concentrated solution from SX serving as catholyte and raffinate from SX serving as anolyte. Therefore, copper in the concentrated solution would be deposited on the cathode while ferrous in the raffinate would be oxidized to ferric at the anode. Because it is assumed that ferric acid leaching is used, resulting ferric would be recycled to the leaching process. A positive side effect of the envisioned process would be the elimination of oxygen evolution at the anode and thus the prevention of acid-misting. After a cell design was selected, it was used to test a number of variables: flowrate, concentration, temperature, ion-exchange membrane, and applied voltage. Following experiments in which variable ranges were determined, statistical modeling was conducted using STATEASE software. Optimal results indicate the voltage can be decreased to 1.5-1.7 volts with current densities of 300-400 amps/m2. Significant reduction in the energy consumption was accomplished by reducing the applied voltage. Furthermore, current efficiencies and copper production rates was increased by application of the membrane.INTRODUCTIONLeaching of copper ores is achieved using mostly sulfuric acid. Copper sulfide minerals such as chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite exhibit high floatability, thus they can be recovered as a froth product by adding only a collector in flotation process. However, when their surface is oxidized, the floatability decreases and the simple addition of collectors is no longer effective. In this case, flotation activators are required to improve the floatability. Sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) acts as an activator for chalcocite and bornite by re-sulfurizing their oxidized surface portions. Nevertheless, the flotation conditions still require optimization in order to achieve a satisfactory recovery of copper minerals. This work addresses the study of the effect of pH and NaHS dosage on the flotation of a complex Chilean copper ore containing chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite. Flotation experiments were conducted using a Denver-type flotation cell and by investigating the effect of two NaHS dosages (50, 100 g/t) and three pH values (8, 9, 10). Following this process, the surface interaction between the minerals and NaHS were analyzed using zeta potential measurements. INTRODUCTION In recent years in the mining area of metal resources, the complexity of ores and the fineness of grind required to liberate minerals have become serious problems. When ores are complex, several valuable minerals may interact with each other and reactions may become more complicated compared with an ore containing only one valuable mineral. Therefore, more processing steps may be required than for a simple ore. When the valuable minerals exist as fine grains, it is difficult to liberate them and more grinding time is required. Furthermore, the probability of collision of fine particles with bubbles in the flotation process declines and it takes much time to recover them. Flotation is one of the most applied methods to separate valuable minerals from unwanted ones using the difference of hydrophobicity (or hydrophilicity). In the flotation method, the air is fed to a cell filled with the pulp of the mineral of interest and agitation is implemented to introduce air and generate bubbles. The hydrophobic particles attach themselves to the bubbles and float along with the bubbles while the hydrophilic particles remain in the pulp. Copper sulfide minerals such as chalcocite (Cu2S), bornite (Cu5FeS4), chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) are widely known abundant copper resources. Generally, flotation is used to recover and concentrate these minerals. Copper sulfide minerals usually have high floatability. However when their surfaces are oxidized, their floatability becomes lower. When the sulfide surfaces are oxidized, activators are added before flotation to modify the surface property of the Copper sulfide minerals so that they can be floated. Sodium hydrosulfide, NaHS, is known as one of the activators. Zhao (2018) reported that NaHS is often used as a sulfurizer for oxidized sulfide minerals (Becker (2014), Clark (2000), Newell (2006), and Newell (2007)). In earlier work, the authors performed flotation tests on a sample of Chilean copper ore which contained chalcocite, bornite, and chalcopyrite using a Denver-type flotation apparatus. The sample was ground to P80 70 µm with a rod mill and ball mill. In these tests, the following conditions were used: natural pH (about pH 8.5), flotation time of 45 min, 60 g/t AP3477 (sodium diisobutyl dithiophosphate) as collector, and MIBC (methyl isobutyl carbinol) at appropriate dosage as frother. NaHS was applied at the dosage of 0, 67, and 120 g/t, respectively at the conditioning. The concentrates were collected at 6, 18, 30, and 45 min. The weights of the concentrates and tailing were measured and they were assayed for copper by ICP-AES (Optima 5300 DV, PerkinElmer Inc.). The flotation recoveries of the copper minerals were calculated from the results of MLA (mineral liberation analyser) (MLA 650, FEI) measurements.

"The Phalen Colliery, the Cape Breton Development Corporation's flagship, is now producing thermal and metallurgical grade coal in Eastern Canada's Sydney Coal Field. The colliery is a drift mine operating under the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Improved mechanization, including a 2200 tonne per hour cable conveyor, and the introduction of modern retreat longwall mining methods as part of the Phalen concept are now paying off in better productivity and low operating costs. Geological conditions within the coal field are consistent with plans for ever greater outputs in the 1990s. Although much of the current production improvement is related to uprated machine capacity and simplified mines planning there is potential for even further development in the areas of maintenance, process control and engineering. Human resource development will also be a key factor. These programs are now well under way and Phalen Colliery is poised for top results in the 1990s. Comparison of the CBDC's top producer with similar operations elsewhere in the world, quantifies that potential.IntroductionAn exciting new mining project which has recently started production on Canada's East Coast has been conceived and designed to be one of the most modern and productive coal mining operations in North America.As with all mining operations, the business is basically that of material transportation. Daily, the product is transported many kilometres from the underground face to the surface and then to washing facilities. Men, materials and equipment are transported to and from the surface and the operating faces and services, such as electrical power, ventilating air, fresh water, discharge water, communications and compressed air are supplied throughout the operation to cover operating requirements. On all accounts the operation has been designed to take advantage of the latest proven technology."

"Midwest Joint Venture (MJV) owns a high-grade uranium deposit in northern Saskatchewan. The deposit is located too deep below surface to be mined economically by open pit methods, and as a consequence, present plans are that it will be mined by underground methods. High-grade uranium ore of the type at MJV, encased in weak, highly altered ground and with radon-rich water inflows, has not before been mined by underground methods.The test mining phase of the project, completed in 1989, had three objectives: 1. to evaluate radiation protection requirements associated with the handling of large quantities of radon-rich water and mining highgrade uranium ore in an underground environment; 2. to investigate the quantity and quality of water inflows into the mine; and 3. to investigate ground conditions in and around the ore zone as an aid in determining the production mining method to be used.With information gained from the test mining project, a mining method for the production mine has been devised. Level plans have been drawn up, ventilation system designed, pumping arrangements made and methods of ore handling considered. All this is to be done in a manner that will be safe for those doing the work underground. Some of the mining methods planned are felt to be unique in that they are designed to cope with mining problems not known to have been encountered before. New problems underground have required new methods to handle them. Remote drilling, blasting, mucking and backfilling form the basis of the planned mining method."

"A full-scale demonstration unit of Tampella's LIFAC desulphurization process was tested at SaskPower's Poplar River Power Station Unit No. I. The test program included a series of parametric tests, followed by a 1500 hour operational evaluation. This paper summarizes the results of the test program, and SaskPower's economic evaluation which led to selection of the LlFAC process for SaskPower's 300 MW Shand power station. IntroductionOne of the major influences on the coal mining industry today is public and legislative response to acid rain. When sulphur-bearing fuels such as coal are burned, the sulphur oxidizes to sulphur dioxid e (S00 which, if uncontrolled, enters the atmosphere as one of the by-products of combustion. S02 then combines with water in the air to form an acid and acid rain results. Combustion also produces nitrogen oxides (N0J which can combine with water in the air forming nitrogen based acid , also contributing to acid rain.Acid rain has become a significant international concern. Newspapers have reported on dying forests, dead lakes and crumbling statues. Papers also include articles professing that the physical results of acid rain are vastly overstated. In the United States, a IO-year, Y2-billion dollar study called the National Acid Precipitation Assessment Program (NAPAP) was commissioned to evaluate the effects of acid rain. Even this extensive scientific study did not resolve the controversy. Despite disagreement over the quantitative effects of acid rain, there is no doubt that public concern over the issue is widespread and deeply felt.In response to this concern, legislators throughout the world have reacted with programs that restrict the emission s o f SO, and NO,. To industries involved in the supply and use of coal, the impact of these legislative programs has been extensive. United States power plants will be spending 10 billion dollars in the next decade for flue gas clean-up equipment. Even all this new equipment will not stem the tide of change to low sulphur coals and to “clean “natural gas. The following summarizes legislative actions taken for Canada and the United States."

Shebandowan Mine presents a unique opportunity for the mining industry to demonstrate its willingness and ability to use electrical energy effectively. The mine is a typical 250D-ton/day operation supplied by a i5-MVA power transformer. it is a recent, up-to-date design and operates on a four-day/week, two-shift/day basis. The paper outlines an energy profile based on historical data. It accurately describes the individual and total energy input For: (1) production and non-productive junctions; (2) production and down-time periods; (3) peak and average activity levels; and (4) principal energy utilization equipment. A comparison is then made of production data to electrical data, and production and electrical data to design data. The paper concludes that energy management has an important benefit for the mining industry by assisting in maintaining a competitive operation through reduced costs and fewer production slow-downs in the event of energy shortages.

"A comparison of diesel engine power ratings with in-service capability, and the selection of unit size and total number of units are discussed in the paper. Engine specific fuel consumption and its evaluation in relation to manufacturers' tolerances and equipment load factors is reviewed along with the suitable plant layout. The potential for heat recovery is discussed in connection with simple and operable recovery systems f or exhaust and cooling circuits. Maintenance standards as related to improved reliability and reduced fuel and operating costs are also outlined. IntroductionDiesel generators are used in Canadian mining operations to provide electrical power for "" base- load"" requirements in some instances and for ""stand-by"" or ""emergency"" power in almost every producing mine in the country . There are over 300 mines in Canada of which only a handful have to generate their own electricity. Only one or two mine s enjoy access to a hydroelectric site. Consequently, the diesel engine is the principal prime mover because of its high efficiency relative to other prime movers in the size range in question.The author has been associated with several “base-load” plants in addition to participation in numerous projects requiring emergency diesel generators. Records indicate that engine performance in term s of reliability and efficiency lags behind other industries where the diesel engine is used more extensively, such as the shipping industry which is able to make a more prudent selection of original equipment and enjoy easy access to highly skilled operating and maintenance personnel. It is hoped that the contents of this paper will be of value to Canadian operators of diesel generators, in the generation of prime power or applications for back-up power."

Condition-based maintenance is replacing preventive maintenance in many industrial operations as a result of gains in productivity. Preventive maintenance is strictly time-based which means that as long as the prescribed time is sufficiently short, failures are prevented. The trade-offs between shorter cycles and increased downtime is a fine balancing act. Condition-based maintenance is gaining momentum as the more cost-effective and green solution to finding the optimal maintenance cycle and improving overall productivity. In the mining industry, various parameters of heavy equipment are monitored continuously to provide feedback for maintenance events. However, strain, shock, and vibration, key factors which lead to yielding and fatigue of metal parts, are not generally monitored by built-in systems, mainly due to the complexity of sensor installation and computational intensity of data processing. Scanimetrics has developed a stand-alone, add-on wireless system for measuring strain, shock, and vibration in heavy equipment and components, the data from which can be directly used to trigger maintenance events. The present system is being deployed in tar sands mining equipment. The system consists of a portable display and control unit, a software platform consisting of data management, sensor instrumentation and data analysis, and wireless strain sensor units, which can be easily installed on equipment. Data from the sensors can be gathered throughout the mine site, processed instantly, and used to generate condition-based maintenance events, improving overall uptime of the equipment and overall productivity of the mining operation.

"Three hydrometallurgicat processes (Noranda chloride leach, B. C. Research biological leach and Sherritt-Cominco activated oxygen leach) and the Noranda pyrometallurgical process have served as the basis for design projects in the final year of the chemical engineering program at the University of Toronto. Each member of a team of five or six students devotes about 200 hours to the project and the final report is expected to include an economic analysis.None of the processes has been developed to full- scale plant, nor, in the case of the B.C. Research and Noranda processes, were pilot plant data available. Nevertheless, the designs developed provide a useful basis for a preliminary estimate of capital and operating costs and for a preliminary assessment of project feasibility.This paper discusses the approach used in the design projects with respect to engineering and economic aspects, and outlines the educational features and benefits of such a program as well as some of the problem areas that arise.IntroductionAs part of the undergraduate degree course in chemical engineering at the University of Toronto, students devote some 200 hours to a design project in their final year. Hydrometallurgical processes, not yet proven at the commercial scale, have been selected for study. The students are required to develop laboratory and / or pilot scale results into a conceptual plant design, using sound engineering principles. "A large amount of platinum group metals (PGM) are used in automobile catalyst. It is important to recover the metals from wasted catalyst. Nomura and Kageyama (2013) suggested recovery process that PGM oxides were absorbed to perovskite-type oxide based on LaScO3. In their process, the PGM in wasted catalyst as absorbed to the perovskite-type oxide as PGM oxide. It has potential to each element in the process if the perovskite-type oxide is selected properly. In this study, the PGM oxide absorption properties of various perovskite-type oxides are investigated to develop a new recovery and separation process. The various perovskite-type oxide were synthesized with metallic platinum, palladium, rhodium at high temperature in air atmosphere. And the PGM contents in the perovskite-type oxide after the experiment are determined by chemical analysis. Some of them have the properties to absorb specific PGM oxide selectively. In addition, in order to increase the amount of absorption of PGM oxide and composition of the perovskite-type oxide experimental temperature was investigated. Then it is also found that doping another specific element to the perovskite-type oxide is effective to increase the amount of absorption of PGM oxide. Then a new recovery process of PGM from wasted automobile catalyst, in which PGM can be separate to each element, was designed.INTRODUCTIONA large amount of Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh) are used in automobile catalysis (Figure 1) (Platinum, 2013). Natural supplies for these metals are limited and PGM mining can detrimental environmental impact. Therefore, the recycling of PGMs from wasted automobile catalysis is very important. The Rose process (Figure 2) was developed as a process to recover PGM from wasted automobile catalysis. In this process, the automobile catalysis is first crushed mechanically, and then extracting agent, copper (Cu), and flux are melted at high temperature. The mixture separates into a metal phase, (Cu alloy containing PGM) and slag. The PGM is enriched by oxidizing. Cu to Cu oxide. The PGM are then recovered and separated to each element in a wet process. However, it is hard to dissolve the PGM with acid because they are chemically stable and strong oxidation agent such as aqua regia is used. Moreover, to separate the PGM to each individual element, a solvent extraction process is required."

"This geological engineering method is based on jour main characteristics of mineral properties, viz; location: inclusion of valuable mineralization; inclusion of geophysical and/or geochemical targets; and inclusion of geological targets. These are subdivided into a total of 19 subcategories, which are used to determine the value of the property.The nineteen subcategories are prioritized and assigned relative value factors from 1.3 to 10. Value of each mineral claim unit is determined by applying the appropriate subcategory factors to a base value of $400per 16.2 hectare unit. Property value is calculated by totalling the values of such individual claim-units.The boundary between ore grade and sub-ore grade must be estimated for each property under valuation, thereby making the method sensitive to mineral commodity prices.A clear and disciplined sequence of decisions based on personal experience forms the basis of this method. The method utilizes all factors normally used to value a mineral property.IntroductionIt is generally accepted in the exploration industry that valuation of exploration properties is a subjective rather than objective process (Roscoe, 1986; Lawrence, 1988; Lawrence, 1989; Woodcock, 1985), and that it is greatly influenced by the experience and qualifications of the person who is doing the valuation. However, the significantly low degree of objectivity in mineral property valuation at this point in time invites effort to achieve a more quantitative engineering basis.Value of a mineral property depends basically upon metal prices, recoverable grades, mining and metallurgical practices, commodity supply and demand , and political-economic conditions, all of which vary with time. Therefore, any valuation is valid for only that point in time when it is made. Mineral deposits can decrease as well as increase in technical value with time."
