"A novel hydrometallurgical process for copper recovery from waste printed circuit boards has been proposed, which consists of selective leaching of copper metal as Cu(I) by Cu(II) in ammoniacal alkaline solution, purification, and electrowinning. The distinct feature of this process is much lower power consumption during the electrowinning than that during the conventional one from acidic copper sulfate media, because the deposition of copper metal from Cu(I) at the cathode and the oxidation of Cu(I) to Cu(II) at the anode take place in the present method. In the laboratory-scale tests using waste printed circuit boards, high purity copper which contains 1.1ppm of impurities was obtained in a chloride system. INTRODUCTIONThe recovery of various metals from waste materials is an important issue in order to conserve the environment and metal resources. Copper is used for cables, electric appliances, etc., and is currently a very important material for industries and will continue to be in the future. Among the wastes that contain copper, one of the most complex recycling materials is electronic scrap like printed circuit boards (PCB), which generally contain 10-30% copper as well as plastics, fibreglass and other metals. There are two ways to recover copper, either pyrometallurgical or hydrometallurgical. Hydrometallurgical treatments generally have more flexibilities in the process scale and control. The separation processes tend to become complicated because of the poor selectivity during the leaching in the sulphuric and hydrochloric acid media. On the other hand, the use of ammonia as a complexing agent, gave a higher selectivity for copper leaching (Nigo, Majima, Hirato, Awakura, & Iwai, 1993; Majima, Nigo, Hirato, Awakura, & Iwai, 1993; Zhou, Shinme, & Anezaki, 1995; Koyama, Tanaka, & Lee, 2006) .In this study, recycling process containing leaching, copper deposition at a cathode and oxidation of copper(I) at an anode from ammoniacal alkaline solutions containing Cu(I) or Cu(II) is introduced. Furthermore, copper recovery from a waste printed circuit boards and impurity behaviour was examined in ammonia-ammonium sulfate (sulfate system) and ammonia-ammonium chloride (chloride system) systems."

More than 700,000 feet of diamond drilling was completed in the Blind River area between 1953 and 1958. Much of this drilling was at depths which are still not usual in North America. However, as the tendency is to deeper holes, factual data from the Blind River operation may well provide information of value in future programs. Rates of drilling decreased with in-creasing depth, but uncommonly good rates (an average of over 50 feet per day over more than 4,000 feet of hole) were achieved with proper engineering and care. Costs varied as contractors and geologists became familiar with the area Hole deviation in the Blind River area was locally severe and control of the hole trace became a major problem. Careful surveying was necessary and found to be highly re-liable. It was found that control of the hole trace above 1,500 feet was much more difficult than at depths below 1,500 feet. Extractive metallurgy is concerned with the winning of metals from their ores and concentrates. It is therefore not unexpected that extractive metallurgy in Canada has always been closely linked with mining. The discovery and exploitation of new orebodies has provided the impetus for the building of many of our smelters and refineries - past and present - and for the development of new metal extraction processes. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief overview of those early metallurgical developments, and to highlight the continuing expansion and diversification of the Canadian metallurgical industry.

FOR MORE THAN 200 years, the Kochiu district of Yunnan province has been, and it still is, the hub of China's tin industry. The district produces annually from 80 to 90 per cent of that country's out-put of tin, which averages about 9,300 tons a year and places China fifth among the tin producing nations of the world. The tin ore reserves of the country are estimated (1) at 1,873,370 metric tons, of which 1,500,000 tons are in the Kochiu district. The mill of the Yunnan Consolidated Tin Corporation, described in this paper, is the only one of its kind in China. MINING AND SMELTING There are only two tin mines in the Kochiu district operating with modern equipment -the Hsin-Chang and the Lao-Chang, both owned by the Yunnan Consolidated Tin Corporation, a government company. The Hsin-Chang mine has four working levels with cross-cuts 6 ft. by 6 ft. and is equipped with steel mine cars and trucks to haul the ore. The ore is hoisted to surface in a three-compartment shaft and transferred to the mill by a 4-kilometer aerial tram. The Lao-Chang mine has two circular shafts 656 feet apart, each equipped with two cages. Haulage-ways 1,600 meters and 1,000 meters long, respectively, have been driven to the southwest from these shafts and are connected by three cross-cuts.

Abstract-Most large skarn deposits are zoned in both space and time relative to associated intrusions. Zonation occurs on scales from kilometers to micrometers, and reflects infiltrative fluid flow, wallrock reaction, temperature variations, and fluid mixing. The most spectacular examples of skarn zonation usually occur at the skarn-marble contact, where transitions between monomineralic bands can be knife sharp. Other small-scale examples occur in zoned veins and individual mineral crystals. Although, visually striking and scientifically interesting, in mineral exploration these small-scale variations are less useful than deposit- or district-scale zonation. In most skarn systems there is a general zonation pattern of proximal garnet, distal pyroxene, and vesuvianite (or a pyroxenoid such as wollastonite, bustamite, or rhodonite) at the marble front. As well, individual skarn minerals may display systematic color or compositional variations within the larger zonation pattern. Such patterns are reviewed for 14 well-studied examples of Cu, W, Sn, Au, and Zn-Pb skarns. In addition, many deposits have endoskarn or other alteration of the associated intrusion, and recrystallization or other subtle changes have occurred in the surrounding wallrocks. Copper skarns, such as Mines Gaspé in Quebec and Big Gossan in Irian Jaya, have high ratios of garnet:pyroxene and are zoned outward from the intrusion, to garnet, to pyroxene, to massive-sulfide replacement and vein deposits. Garnets in Cu skarn are Fe-rich and change from dark red-brown near the intrusive contact to paler brown, green, or yellow in distal locations. Pyroxenes in Cu skarns are pale and diopsidic near the intrusion, and become darker and more Fe- and Mn-rich away from the intrusion. Tungsten skarns, such as Salau and Costabonne in France and Pine Creek and Garnet Dike in California, have intermediate ratios of garnet:pyroxene, are more extensive vertically and along strike than perpendicular to the intrusive contact, and have zonation patterns commonly complicated by overprinting of metamorphic lithologies. In W skarns, garnet is commonly subcalcic and the pyroxene is Fe-rich, reflecting particularly reducing wallrocks or great depth of formation. Tin skarns, such as Dachang in China and Moina in Australia, also can have subcalcic garnet and Fe-rich pyroxene, but this reduced mineral assemblage typically is due to an association with reduced S-type granites. Tin skarns differ from most other skarn types in having a late greisen stage that may replace earlier Sn-bearing calc-silicate minerals, thus liberating Sn to form cassiterite. Many high-grade Au skarns, such as Hedley in British Columbia and Fortitude in Nevada, have low ratios of garnet:pyroxene and are associated both with reduced plutons and reduced wallrocks. Goldrich zones occur in Fe-rich, pyroxene-dominant, distal skarn. Zn-Pb skarns, such as the Yeonhwa- Ulchin district in Korea and Groundhog in New Mexico, have low ratios of garnet:pyroxene and generally form distal to associated intrusions. These skarns also are zoned from proximal garnet to distal pyroxene and pyroxenoid (bustamite-rhodonite), with significant zones of massive sulfides within and beyond skarn. Manganese enrichment of most mineral phases, particularly pyroxene, is characteristic of distal zones. Fundamental controls on skarn zonation include temperature, depth of formation, composition and oxidation state of associated plutons and wallrocks, and tectonic setting. Most W skarns form at relatively great depth, 5 km to 20 km, with extensive high-temperature metamorphic and metasomatic mineral assemblages. In contrast, most other skarn types are relatively shallow, <10 km and mostly <5 km, with limited, lower temperature metamorphic aureoles. "The Siscoe gold mine is ranked as the fourth largest mine in the history of the Val d' Or mining district with a total production of 27.4 tAufrom1929 to 1949. Most of the gold mineralization occurred in quartz veins, hosted in a small (.69 km2) intrusion of altered quartz gabbro known as the Siscoe stock. The southern contact of the Siscoe stock is crosscut by a major shear zone (the ""K"" zone) trending 295/80 NE and from which gold mineralization was also exploited within the limits of the stock. Field and petrographic observations of the Siscoe stock combined with chemical analyses of major, trace and rare earth elements of the stock and its volcanic host rocks (Dubuisson Formation) suggest that:The Siscoe stock comprises four alteration facies formed from a homogeneous precursor: 1) the actinolite - Mg-chlorite facies, characterized by low FeOt,Na2O andTiO2 , and highAlp3 and MgO; 2) the albite- Fe-chlorite facies, containing high concentrations of FeOt and Nap; 3) the Mg + Fe-chloritefacies, which is transitional between the actinolite- Mg-chlorite and albite- Fe-chloritefacies; 4) the carbonate-chlorite facies, which consists of rocks that were subjected to extreme hydrothermal alteration, is spatially associated with mineralized veins and part of the K-zone. The first three facies are depleted in SiO 2, CaO and Au, and enriched in MgO, relative to fresh rocks of the Siscoe stock and the equivalent rocks of the Dubuisson Formation.Hydrothermal fluids introduced mainly along the K-zone ""channelway"" induced three types of element remobilization, resulting in the various alteration facies: 1) redistribution of elements within the stock from one facies to another (e .g., FeOt, Nap, Ti02 migrated from the actinolite- Mg-chlorite facies to the albite- F e-chlorite and Mg + Fe-chlorite facies); 2) remobilization of elements from the intrusive rocks into veins (e.g ., SiO 2 and CaO ); 3) introduction of elements by hydrothermal fluids in rocks of the Siscoe stock (e .g., Al2O3, MgO, H2O, CO2 and FeOt).The Siscoe stock and the Dubuisson Formation form part of the same tholeiitic suite. Similarly, the Bourlamaque batholith and the Val d'Or Formation belong to a single calc-alkaline suite. In view of this relationship, dissimilarities between the petrochemistry of the Siscoe stock and the Bourlamaque batholith suggest that the two intrusions are not co-magmatic.Finally, gold may have been leached from rocks of the Siscoe stock and remobilized into the quartz-carbonate mineralized veins. In order to account for the total production at the Siscoe mine, approximately 1.2 km3 of the Siscoe stock is thought to have been partially leached of its gold."

"This paper briefly describes the surface mining operations at Smoky River Coal Limited (formerly McIntyre Mines Limited, Coal Division) near Grande Cache, Alberta. Geology, mining methods, equipment, manpower and reclamation and environment topics are discussed. Introduction Smoky River Coal Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of McIntyre Mines Limited of Calgary, Alberta, produces a high quality, low sulphur, low volatile bituminous coking coal from its minesite located at west central Alberta, approximately 20 km from the town of Grande Cache and 360 km west of Edmonton (Fig. I). Most of the coal property is contained within a 30 km long by 20 km wide block lying in a northwest-southeast direction in mountainous terrain. Elevations vary from 920 m above sea level ·at the plant·site on the Smoky River to 1,600 mat the upper levels of current and proposed mining operations. A total of 11 coal seams have been identified. Only two seams, No. 4 Seam and No. 10 Seam are currently considered of major commercial value. These seams are recovered by both surface and underground mining. Approximately 650Jo of the plant feed coal is obtained from a conventional shovel/truck surface mine; the balance is mined underground by room-andpillar methods. Background In 1921, McIntyre Mines Limited acquired some 26,300 hectares of coal leases at Smoky River. Since then the leases were explored intermittently by different companies including McIntyre. In the mid-l 960s exploration activities increased and several feasibility studies were completed. Development of the area was undertaken by McIntyre in 1968 and, in August of the same year, a long-term contract was signed with a consortium of Japanese steel mills for delivery of 2 x 106 t of clean coking coal for 15 years commencing in 1970. Production was focussed on underground mining, using longwall methods."

"A detailed study of the compositional relationships of the Uand Th-bearing minerals in Elliot Lake uranium ores has been conducted, particularly with regard to uranothorite, which clearly plays a critical role in hydrometallurgical processing. Application of the rotating disc progressive-leaching technique to individual mineral grains and intergrowths of known compositions has defined for the first time the solubilization behaviour ofthe minerals in question.In descending order of leachability, regardless of leaching conditions, the phases are: uranothorite, uraninite, and monazite. Inclusions of secondary uranothorite enhance the dissolution kinetics of uraninite, which exhibits a complex dissolution mode. U-rich uranothorite dissolves more readily than Th-rich. Monazite is soluble in HJ)04 and HCI solutions only at temperatures exceeding 85°C. Consequently, it is deduced that the 15% to 20% of thorium not leached from the ore is lost both as monazite and as uranothorite inclusions locked in monazite which persists to the tailings. INTRODUCTIONThe importance of precise information on the mineralogy of ore and gangue constituents for the optimization of metal recovery in hydrometa Uurgical processing has been recognized for some years (e.g. Burkin, 1969), and numerous investigations integrating mineralogical studies and experimental leaching have been reported for ores of gold, nickel, copper and uranium (see summary by Henley, 1983). The complex mineralogy of uranium ores hosted by Precambrian pyritiferous, quartz-pebble, conglomerates has prompted particular attention in this regard (e.g. Liebenberg, 1956; Liebenberg and Taverner, 1958; Feather and Snegg, 1978). In the great majority of documented studies, however, petrographic examination has been followed by bulk leaching, an approach which, although providing valuable information, does not permit precise definition of the evolution of mineral dissolution processes. The authors contend that experimentation involving the step-by-step leaching and mineralogical study of ores is more likely to reveal the actual dissolution events which control the release of metals and, hence, may better define the optimal conditions for hydrometallurgical processing. Such studies (e.g. Hausen, 1983; Horlick et al., 1981) in addition lend themselves to the prediction of changes in the leaching behaviour of ores in which one or more mineralogical feature is subject to modification, a common characteristic of mineral deposits."

"Economic Mn-oxide ore deposits of commercial grade occur in the Rhodope massif near Kato Nevrokopi in the Drama region, Northern Greece. The Mn-oxide mineralization has developed by weathering of continental hypogene rhodochrosite-sulphide veins. The vein mineralization is con-?ned by tectonic shear zones between marble and metapelites, extending laterally into the marble astabular, pod or lenticular oreshoots (up to 50 m x 20 m x 5-10 m). Supergene oxidation of the hypogene mineralization led to the formation of in-situ residual Mn-oxide ore deposits, and secondary infills of Mn-oxide ore in embryonic and well developed karst cavities.Whole rock geochemical pro?les across mineralized zones con?rm the role of thrusts and faults as solution passageways and stress the importance of these structures in the development of hydrothermal and supergene mineralization at Kato Nevrokopi. Three zones are recognized in the in-situ supergene veins: (A) a stable zone of oxidation, where immobile elements form (or substitute in) stable oxide mineral phases, and mobile elements are leached; (B) a transitional (active) zone in which element behavior is strongly in?uenced by seasonal ?uctuations of the groundwater table and variations in pH-Eh conditions; and (C) a zone of permanent ?ooding, where variations in pH-Eh conditions are minimal. Zone (B) is considered as the source zone for the karst cavity mineralization. During weathering, meteoric waters, which were CO2-rich (PCO2~10-3.8 to 10-1.4) and oxygenated (fO2~10-17 for malachite), percolated downward within the veins, causing breakdown and dissolution of sul?des and marble, and oxidation of rhodochrosite to Mn-oxides. Karst cavity formation was favored by the high permeability along thrust zones. Dissolved Mn2+was transportedinto karst cavities in reduced meteoric waters at the beginning of weathering (pH~4-5), and as Mn(HCO3)2in slightly alkaline groundwaters during advanced weathering (pH~6-8). Mn4+-oxide precipitation took place by fO2increase in ground waters, or pH increase by continuous hydrolysis and carbonate dissolution. In the well developed karst setting, some mobility of elements occurred during and after karst ore formation in the order Na>K>Mg>Sr>Mn>As>Zn>Ba>Al>Fe>Cu>Cd>Pb."

INTRODUCTION A DISTILLATION process offers one of the most effective methods of refining metals. Its use is particularly attractive in the case of reactive metals which are not readily treated by pyrometallurgical or electrolytic methods. The 1ow vapour pressure of most metals severely restricts the applicability of the disti1lation process and only one or two metals may be effectively treated under atmospheric pressure at a reasonable temperature. If operations are carried out under reduced pressure several additional metals may be effectively distilled. Table I shows the vapour pressure of a number of metals together with a value of the free energy of formation of their ?oxides. Zinc and cadmium head the list and for many years? they have .been effectively refined by distillation. Sodium, magnesium, and calcium follow in descending order, and they may be distilled readily in vacuo and with difficulty at atmospheric pressure. Sodium, which is not of great metallurgical interest, is not considered. Magnesium has recently been produced in considerable tonnages by distillation methods ( 3). This paper describes the vacuum distillation of magnesium and calcium, their separation from each other, and their separation from less volatile impurities.

Sulphuric acid pressure leaching is the process of choice to recover nickel and cobalt from laterites with variable iron and magnesium contents. The latter influences the acidity levels required for effective leaching of nickel and cobalt, and during leaching, iron is rejected in-situ as hematite. Classical solid/liquid separation is performed via a CCD circuit, the performance of which depends upon the size and shape of precipitated particles. In this paper, precipitates obtained by acid-leaching of various lateritic feeds at 270°C are characterized using SEM/EDX and laser particle size analysis. It is shown that as acidity increases, the shape of the precipitates gradually changes from platelets to spheres, thus improving the S/L separation properties of the residue. The use of hydrogen ion concentration “at temperature,” calculated from a speciation analysis, allows the explanation of this change of morphology independently of the type of the ore feed. The possibility of precipitating magnesium sulphate “at temperature” is also discussed. In order to take advantage of this precipitation for scale reduction (as has been proposed in the past) without compromising the residue quality, [H+] “at temperature” must be controlled within an optimum range.

"The Starved Acid Leach Technology (SALT) has been developed by Search Minerals to extract nickel and cobalt VALUES (from nickel laterite ores (saprolites) and Caron plant residues. The technology consists of sulfuric acid atmospheric leaching of the ores or residues followed by neutralization and recovery of nickel and cobalt. The acid addition is carefully controlled to maximize nickel and cobalt extraction while minimizing overall consumption of acid by various gangue reactions. The final recovery processes can be tailored for maximum economic benefit. The use of resin-in-pulp processing is advocated as the most cost effective method for initial recovery of nickel and cobalt from lower grade materials. INTRODUCTIONCommercial processes for laterite ore treatment vary according to laterite type and local conditions. The two general categories of laterite ore are saprolites and limonites.Saprolites are generally treated by pyrometallurgical processes for reduction of nickel to matte or ferro nickel alloys. The high cost of drying, chemical reduction and electric furnace smelting requires that the saprolite grade for economic processing is of the order of 1.8% nickel or higher. There are of course large amounts of saprolite that fall below this “cut-off” grade that are not currently economic.Limonites can be treated by the Caron Process which involves drying of the ore, a reduction roast of the whole ore to reduce nickel and cobalt (and some iron) to the metallic state followed by ammonium – ammonium carbonate solution to leach nickel and cobalt. Nickel and cobalt recovery are low (70-85% for Ni and 20-50% for Co). The Caron plant tailings therefore contain high levels of unrecovered nickel and cobalt. Relatively few plants have used the Caron Process and new installations are not anticipated due to the high energy cost of drying and reduction roasting. Nevertheless, plants in Brazil (Niquelandia), Australia (Yabulu) and Cuba continue to operate.The high pressure acid leach (HPAL) process was pioneered at Moa Bay in Cuba in the 1960’s in the treatment of limonites. In the 1990’s the HPAL process was touted to revolutionize the nickel industry with low capital and operating costs for new installations. Murrin Murrin, Cawse and Bulong in Australia were started and in each case the technical difficulties of operating at extreme temperature and pressure conditions and the challenges in “ramping up” a complex hydrometallurgical facility conspired to cause these plants to fail economically. At present, Cawse and Bulong are closed and Murrin Murrin continues to operate after undergoing a financial restructuring."

"The present research work deals with directional solidification (DS) of both Al-15wt.%Si and Al-15wt.%Si-1.5wt.%Mg alloys and further characterization of the related microstructures. The growth of refined primary Si and refined eutectic is well-known as positive in order to improve mechanical properties of the Al-Si based alloys. Alloying is also an effective method to strengthen the Al-Si based alloys, in which Mg is considered an important alloying element. However, lack of investigation regarding the effects of Mg on microstructure of these alloys is noted. So, in the present research work emphasis is given on both dendritic and eutectic growth being affected by solidification kinetics (V-growth rate and G-thermal gradient) during transient directional solidification. Experimental evolutions of microstructural spacing of both alloys have been determined which becomes possible to understand the effects of Mg coupled with the effects of growth rate on the final microstructural arrangements. A direct comparison of the tensile mechanical properties obtained for the alloys is also performed. It is shown by these correlations that the addition of Mg generally improves the tensile mechanical resistance with a minor decrease in ductility. Furthermore, the Scheil solidification path of the ternary Al-Si-Mg alloy was determined using the computational thermodynamics software Thermo-Calc, resulting in the following sequence of precipitation: Liquid-Si-a (Al)+Si- a(Al)+Si+Mg2Si. This sequence is compared with the experimental microstructure findings.INTRODUCTION Al-Si alloys containing from 4wt.% to 22wt.% Si comprise more than 90% of all Al-based castings. Parts manufactured with these alloys have a wide range of industrial applications due to their excellent castability, crack resistance, good corrosion resistance, good weldability, low density and high strength (Bray, 1976; Zolotorevsky, 2007; Reyes, 2017). Hypereutectic Al-Si alloys are widely used and researched in the automotive and aerospace sectors due to the low coefficient of thermal expansion, resistance at high temperatures, good wear resistance and high strength (Reyes, 2017; Tebib, 2013). Above the equilibrium eutectic composition (~12.5wt.%Si) the amount of primary Si particles becomes significant (Lasa, 2003). In the place of conventional hypoeutectic Al–Si, there is growing interest in hypereutectic Al–Si alloys as a candidate material for the high-quality engines because a higher volume fraction of silicon may bring about superior properties (Matsuura, 2003)"

Ever increasing depth of mineral extraction presents a challenging environment for hard rock underground mines. High in-situ stresses and associated seismicity with potential rockburst hazards are the major decisive factors contributing to the choice of a ground support regime. Conventional ground support systems, designed primarily for static loads, are not always capable of providing safe working conditions for underground personnel in seismically active mines. Systems specifically developed to resist dynamic loading and allowing for larger deformations are therefore preferred alternatives. High-tensile chain-link mesh has a proven record of successful use in open cut operations in various rockfall barrier installations due to its high energy absorption capacity. It has also been used in underground operations in various parts of the world. This paper describes a method of mechanized installation of a chain-link mesh evaluated at the Kiruna mine in Sweden and South Deep Mine in South Africa. A purpose-built mechanized roll mesh handler was used in this evaluation. The handler is compatible with all standard multi-boom underground drill rigs and is operated utilizing the hydraulic circuit normally used for the feed arrangement. A number of key performance indicators have been identified as success criteria: ??A 30-50% faster installation compared to the conventional methodology ??The mesh should sustain any blast damage when applied to the blasting face ??No unraveling of the mesh when cut ??No failure of mesh under normal conditions Although the energy-absorbing mesh combined with yielding rock bolts is a ground support system of choice for rockburst prone conditions, the operational upsides recognized during the evaluation imply that this product can also be competitively used in less demanding ground conditions where customarily weld mesh or shotcrete are used as a primary surface support. The main conclusion: a fast, safe and fully mechanized installation.

"In this study, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and thermal conductivity (TC) of shale in two perpendicular directions, vertical and parallel to the bedding of the rock, are firstly measured by experiment. The experimental results show that the CTE of the shale in the vertical direction is 1.69 times as much as that in the parallel direction, while the TC in the parallel direction is 1.83 times larger than that of the vertical direction. Based on the no initial strain assumptions, numerical simulations for the thermal cracking in shale are carried out with the obtained coefficients. Using finite element method and thermal-mechanical coupling theory, two fracture mechanical parameters, KI and J-integral of the shale are also analyzed for the shale thermal fracturing. The simulation results show that both KI and J-integral reach the maximum when the fracturing angle equals to 0° in the shale, namely parallel to the bedding direciton. It is also found that the two fracture parameters decrease with the fracturing angle increasing. Additionally, the thermal fracturing effect of the shale is evaluated under a given scenario. The study is significant for shale oil or gas recovery by in situ pyrolyzing method.INTRODUCTIONOil shale is regarded as a kind of unconventional resource that can contribute to production of shale oil and hydrocarbon gases (Rahm & Dianne, 2011). As is known that there is a large deposit of oil shale in China, and present technology for exploiting oil shale still concentrates on open-pit mining, obtaining shale oil by retorting shale on the ground (Li, Tang, Xue, Zheng, & Du, 2014; Qian, Yin, 2008). However, this technology has a bad effect on the environment and leads to severe resource waste for utilizing oil shale. Exploiting oil shale by in-situ method for ‘green mining’ is widely necessary in China (Kang, Wang, Cao, Liang, Chang, & Liu, 2013; Waters, Dean, Downie, Kerrihard, Austbo, & McPherson, 2009; Zoback, Kohli, Das, & McClure, 2012). One of effective method to exploit shale oil is heating oil shale in-situ underground. For instance, the in-situ conversion process (ICP technique) from Shell Company etc. used a direct heating method, and convectional heating oil shale underground by injecting superheated steam from Mining Technology Institute, Taiyuan University of Technology and constructing horizontal fracture in vertical wellbore from Chevron Company use indirect heating method (Chaudhary, Ehlig, & Wattenbarger, 2011; Hazra, Lee, Economides, & Moridis, 2013; Zhao et al., 2010). The convectional heating method contains complicated procedures with phase transition in double-media of fracture-matrix of oil shale subjected to multi-physical fields coupling including stress, fluid and temperature (Zhao et al., 2010). The characteristics of thermodynamics, solid mechanics and seepage of oil shale have been investigated separately (Hopkins, Rosen, & Hill,1998; Kang, Zhao, & Yang, 2008; Yang, Zhao, Kang, 2010; Zhao, Yang, Feng, Liang, & Kang, 2008; Zhao, Cao, Zhao, Lin, & Wang, 2008). However, it is quite difficult to solve constrained problem of each physical parameter in multi-physical fields coupling for oil shale pyrolysis."

"Using the calculated (Thermo-Calc software) and experimental methods (SEM, TEM, EMPA, DSC, XRD, etc.) the phase composition, structure and hardening of aluminium alloys of the Al-Ca-Zn-Mg system were studied in the following range: 2. 5%Mg, up to 10% Ca, and up to 14% Zn (wt%). Fragments of this quaternary phase diagram in the aluminium corner were constructed, including the liquidus surface, as well as some vertical sections. It was shown that the relatively large amount of zinc enters in the Ca-containing phase, which formula can be described as (Al,Zn)4Ca. An increase of Zn content leads to formation of Al4Ca primary crystals at lower concentrations of calcium. The eutectic (Al)+(Al,Zn)4Ca has a fine structure and aluminide particles are capable to spheroidization during the heat treatment at temperature 500 C. The maximal level of hardness observed on calcium containing alloys was higher than 200 HV, what gives the reason to expect good strength properties. With an example of an Al-9% Zn-2,5%Mg-3,5% Ca model experimental alloy based on the (Al)+(Al,Zn)4Ca eutectic, a principal possibility of manufacturing thin rolled sheets was demonstrated.INTRODUCTION Aluminum alloyed with calcium was first studied in 1970-80s by such authors as Piatti (1976), Moore (1978, 1980), Il'enko (1985), Swaminathan (1990), and Perez-Prado (1997) as superplastic materials. In particular, the alloy systems Al-Ca-Zn were studied (Il'enko, 1985, Swaminathan, 1990, Perez-Prado, 1997). For some time there was no new published works concerning the aluminum-calcium alloys. During the last years many works were published dedicated to the calcium alloying of magnesium alloys (Kim, 2011; Xu, 2011; Aljarrah, 2008; Bakhsheshi, 2014). This urged the authors (Belov, Naumova & Akopyan, 2016) to start studying cast and wrought aluminum-calcium alloys for construction (2008–2014). There is almost no information in the literature concerning triple and more complex diagrams of the aluminum-based system states with calcium and other elements. In recent work, parts of the state diagrams are plotted for the aluminum angle zone: Al-Ca-Mg-Sc (Belov, Naumova & Bazlova, 2016), Al-Ca-Ni-Sc (Belov, Naumova & Bazlova, 2017), Al-Ca-Si-Sc (Belov, Naumova & Akopyan, 2017) and others. Special attention was paid to the study of the system Al-Ca-Zn-Mg (Naumova, 2017). Based on this system creation of advanced extra-high tensile alloys is planned. Wrought extra-high tensile alloys series 7??? based on the system Al-Zn-Mg-Cu are well studied."
