Why Rehabilitate? Legislative Requirement Land rehabilitation is a condition of resource consents for mining. Clause 17 (1) of the Resource Management Act 1991 (duty to avoid, remedy, or mitigate adverse effects) provides the legislative basis for local authorities to impose resource consent conditions requiring land to be rehabilitated to approved uses during and after mining.

The problem of ventilating an advancing drive which finally reached 5,550 ft from the fresh air base in rock with virgin temperature of 83°F was solved economically by the use of two 15 h.p. electric fans forcing ventilating air through 281/2 in. dia. fiexible polythene tubing of wall thickness 0·010 in. The saving in cost over conventional metal duct was estimated to be £3· 24 per ft of drive.INTRODUCTIONAs described by Dutton (1965) and Newton (1965) the existing 1,480' ft level drive at the South Mine, Broken Hill, was extended in two stages. The first extension was 3,790 ft, the face then being 4,790 ft from the fresh air inlet. Later, after a vertical ventilation connection was made 1,000 ft back from the face, the drive was extended a further 4,550 ft. The rate of face advance in both stages was about 15 ft per day (3 shifts of 5 ft), 5 days per week. Drive size was 8 ft by 9 ft 6 in. high.The Mines Inspection Act of New South Wales requires 6 hr shifts (instead of the normal 7 in Broken Hill) to be worked if the wet bulb temperature exceeds 80°F. Virgin rock temperature on the 1,480 ft level was 83°F. Inlet air temperature varied with seasons from 58 to 72,oF wet bulb.To adequately ventilate the face, a flow of air of about 11,000 c.f.m. was thought to be necessary.Re-entry time was about 75 min, being governed by the 7 hr length of shift (3 shifts per day) and travelling time.Blasting was permitted only at the end of the shift, in accordance with local industrial restrictions.

This study investigates the enrichment of a low-grade colemanite concentrate (-3 mm) using a Knelson centrifugal gravity concentrator. Due to its low boron content, the concentrate is unsaleable and has to be stored under appropriate conditions to avoid potential environmental problems. The low-grade colemanite concentrate was comminuted to size fractions of-1 mm, -0.5 mm, and -0.15 mm before treatment in the Knelson Concentrator. The effects of particle size, fluidizing water velocity, and bowl speed on the enrichment process were examined. The B2O3content of the concentrate was increased from 33.96% to a maximum of 45.52%. B2O3recovery increased with increasing bowl speed and particle size, and decreased with increasing fluidizing water velocity. The enrichment process also rejected arsenic and iron to some extent, with a maximum reduction of arsenic from 1360 g/t to 765 g/t and iron from 0.88% to0.33%.

En este sentido, el presente trabajo comprende dos partes: la primera, describe la información geomecánica de los taladros de perforación diamantina, el mapeo de celdas y los ensayos de laboratorio como caracterización del macizo rocoso y la segunda, refiere al Modelamiento Numérico a través del uso del Código Universal de los Elementos Distintos (UDEC) para el modelamiento en medios discontinuos, donde se utilizó la información topográfica, litológica, estructural, propiedades del macizo rocoso y secuencias de minado.

Este projeto está sendo executado pela RUSSULA e substituirá todo o sistema de controle juntamente com o acionamento elétrico dos motores além de fornecer novos motores de Corrente Alternada em substituição aos em Corrente Contínua existentes, também serão substituídos os postos de comando que utilizarão sistema supervisório atual com comunicação com o Nível II de automação, serão utilizados servidores virtualizados e fornecidos novos sensores necessários ao processo. Juntamente serão fornecidas e implementadas as ferramentas IBA PDA, IBA Condition Monitoring e IBA Capture CAM além de sistema de monitoramento de condição dos motores elétricos.

Four significant soil nail wall projects in the eastern United States were recently completed with a combined area of 175,000 square feet of finished shotcrete surface. These projects required the use of innovative design and construction methods in order to address various challenges, including slide-prone back slope materials, perched water, highly erodible rock materials, curved wall alignments, very tight construction tolerances and unexpected subsurface conditions. Special focus is given to issues such as bench excavation, soil nail installation methods, shotcrete mix design, anticipated shotcrete quantities, shotcrete nozzlemen qualifications and weather conditions, in order to provide a lessons-learned database for future soil nail wall design and inspector considerations. These projects also underscore the importance of design engineer and soil nail wall contractor qualifications as well as effective communication with the owner.

En este sentido, el objeto del texto señala la forma adecuada de solicitar préstamos s la entidada bancaria. Para ello, se revisa la clasificación de los prestatarios sea en pequeña minería, mediana minería y gran minería, la cual no trabaja con el Banco. Asimismo se señala los documentos necesarios que deben ser presentados para la solicitud del banco (plazos, costos, comprobantes de depósito previo), asi como aquellos que faciliten el estudio técnico. Se evalúa también el depósito previo, las habilitaciones sobre minerales, garantías y la forma de financiación del proyecto.

Strata behavior and support performance were evaluated in a longwall tailgate test area at the Eagle Nest Mine near Van, WV. The mine operates in the Eagle coalbed which ranges in height from 4 to 6 ft (1.2 to 1.8 m) on the mine property. Rugged topography results in rapid changes in overburden which ranges from 200 to 1200 ft (61 to 366 m). The immediate roof at this mine transitions from sandstone to shale. In some areas the sandstone appears to be massive while in many locations it is highly laminated, fossilized, and interspersed with coal streaks. Horizontal stress levels appear to be sufficient to create instabilities in the roof in some locations, especially where the roof is thinly laminated. Traditionally, hardwood cribs have been used at the mine to provide secondary support for longwall tailgates; Strata Products' Hercules cribs are installed on 8 ft (2.4 m) centers staggered left and right in the tailgate entry. In a 250 ft (75 m) tailgate test area, however, cable bolts were installed in lieu of cribs. The bolts were 12 ft (3.6 m) long tensionable cables anchored with 5 ft (1.5 m) of resin. Four cables were installed across the entry and rows were spaced on 6 ft (1.8 m) centers. Primary roof support was maintained in the vicinity of the test area using 42 in (1.1 m), grade 60, No. 6 (19 mm diameter) resin bolts installed on 4 ft (1.2 m) centers through T-2 channels. The cable test area was located under a stream valley in an area of relatively shallow overburden. Strata instabilities consistently had been associated with the stream valley in both the Eagle and the overlying Powellton coalbeds. In an effort to further expose the cables to the most difficult stress conditions available at the time of the test, the specific site chosen was directly beneath a barrier pillar remaining in the upper Powellton mine (approximately 150 ft (45 m) of interburden separates the two coalbeds).

The history of the use of calcium aluminates in mining is discussed including a review of very rapid hardening concretes, anchoring using cement capsules and pumped ground control systems. Specific reference is made to the long term performance of highly abrasion resistant orepass lining in South Africa and the use of rapid hardening materials for a range of applications in Australian coal mine where water infiltration creates difficulties or where rapid repair or return to service is required. The topics covered in detail are, high strength abrasion resistant concretes with a 20 year, 30 million ton ore pass life. Rapid reinstatement of wet and worn roadways using mineral dewatering and rapid roadway rebuild solutions, all in I maintenance shift. The different applications are illustrated using examples from operating mines.

The rate of reaction between iron oxides and carbonaceous materials, agglomerated as pellets, was studied experimentally by measuring the weight loss as a function of time. The effects of temperature, carbon type, inert gas flow rate, pellet size and additions (sodium. carbonate and Portland cement) were determined. It was shown that the value of the apparent activation energy can display large deviations under different experimental conditions; in the present work it was found to be 226.6 kJ/mol. The reaction with coke is slower than with charcoal, and the rate increases as the flow of inert gas in the reaction vessel decreases. Comparison of the rates for pellets of different sizes has shown that for small pellets the initial rate is faster but that it slows down at high conversions owing to the penetration of inert gas into the pellet. Additions of sodium carbonate and Portland cement increase the rate; sodium. carbonate promotes the catalysis of the Boudouard reaction, which is the slowest of the partial reactions. This report, sponsored by the U. S. Bureau of Mines, presents the results of an examination of the safety of the impactor shaft sinking system in comparison to conventional shaft sinking technology. Detailed study of the impactor system was also performed to identify and recommend design changes for optimum safety conditions. A comparison of the impactor machine and its support systems with conventional shaft sinking was made on the basis of relative risk levels. Risk incorporates measures of both the frequency and the potential consequence of accidents. A safety evaluation of the com¬ponent operations of the impactor shaft sinking system was performed using a Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) methodology. The results of this analysis show generally that the impactor shaft sinking system is safer than conventional shaft sinking. The potential risk of conventional shaft sinking operations could be reduced by an average of over 35 percent with use of the impactor shaft sinking system. Design change recommendations to further improve the safety of the impactor system include a revised fire suppression system, improved access to and from the operator cabs, reliable noise attenuation measures and improved communication systems. An operational safety manual was also developed for the impactor shaft sinking system.

Owing to the lead-time required, this is an ideal time to develop a new project to supply semi-finished steel to Asia for rolling to a finished product. Mill crushing drive systems are essential to cement producers. With the increased emphasis on operating efficiency, it is vital that these systems be dependable and reliable. No one needs the costs or headaches associated with unscheduled downtime or inefficient machinery operation. A reliable drive system starts with the proper selection of the ring, or girth, gear and continues through proper maintenance. Ideally, selecting the right girth gear brings together the gear manufacturer, the system designer and the end user. The gear manufacturer must know the details of the application, the demands that will be placed on the gear and the nature of the equipment to be driven. Similarly, the user and the system designer must be familiar with the variables that affect gear drive performance and service. For example, an application that places a torque load on the drive in excess of its rated capacity will result in gear tooth distress and, in severe cases, breakage.

Se requiere un estudio geoestadístico preliminar, teniendo en cuenta los aspectos de autocorrelación de las variables sometidas a estudio, con objeto de que el plan de diseño de muestras pueda ser optimizado para producir las estimaciones de ley y tonelaje dentro de los límites de errores establecidos. En general, debe de tenderse a una distribución regular de muestras para ello, y longitudes regulares de las mis¬mas (a partir de los testigos o cortes, por ejemplo) son preferidas con objeto de facilitar los análisis estadísticos. Los planes de desmuestre son modificados y mejorados (bien técnica o económicamente) a medida que avanza el programa y es obtenida información adicional. Las muestras a granel para pruebas metalúrgicas pueden ser evaluadas en término de va¬riaciones señaladas por todas estas muestras en un depósito y la variabilidad de la ley dentro de las mismas. Una atención adecuada sobre estas fuentes de variabilidad asegurará una evaluación adecuada de los resultados de las pruebas piloto de las muestras a granel. Por otro la¬do, un estudio mineralógico general del yacimiento es un requerimiento importante, a veces ignorado, en una evaluación más general pero semicuantitativa de la representatividad de una muestra a granel; y, además, proporciona una información muy útil para optimizar el diseño de la planta.

La cuenca se encuentra situada entre los centros poblados de Borja-Saramiriza-Puerto América de Madre de Dios, cuyas condiciones desarrollan posibilidades de deposición de oro aluvial. El estudio prospectivo fue empleado por personal técnico de la gerencia de exploraciones de Centromin Perú.S.A en el que obtuvieron 26 muestras referenciales, encontrando 100 000 hectáreas de interés prospectivo por oro fluvial.

A hypothetical economic model has been developed for diamond projects in the Canadian Arctic using data from recent exploration and mining projects. The model reflects economic conditions applicable to the diamond mining industry in the Canadian Arctic at the present time. The economic model captures pre-production expenditures, production data, and post-production costs. Before- and after-tax cash flows are derived from the data along with the relevant economic criteria. From the corporate perspective, the model provides guidance concerning the minimum size and/or in situ value per tonne requirements of targets being sought in order to ensure economic success and predict exploration and development expenditures. From the government perspective, the model provides an indication of income and mining tax revenues that can be expected from a particular diamond project. The model shows, on average, diamond projects in the Canadian Arctic are expensive to explore for and develop, but are economically robust under the present conditions. They generate great economic return for mining companies and significant amounts of tax revenue for governments. The fact that diamonds can be transported directly from the minesite by air makes them particularly attractive targets for mining companies that operate in the Canadian Arctic.
