Os resultados foram validados através da superação da meta estabelecida para o projeto, onde o objetivo inicial foi aumentar em 8,1% a produtividade do equipamento em relação ao valor atual, porém conseguiu-se atingir o valor de 23,5% com um ganho anual de R$1,34 milhões.

Para ello, se busca obtener los tipos de carbón adecuados (antracita al carbón, bituminoso y sub-bituminoso, etc.)a la naturaleza de estas operaciones. De tal forma que su función no se reduzca al uso de la industria metalúrgica doméstica, sino adquiera una mayor importancia en la industria minera de los metales, así como la de los mineros en esta área.

The Bureau of Mines' Oil Shale Data Bank (OSDB) was created in 1976 to serve as a centralized source for the storage, retrieval, and dissemination of technical literature, patents, and information on research projects in oil shale. Thousands of bibliographic references, patents, and research projects relating to the mining of oil shale have been identified, abstracted, and indexed according to selected keyword topics. The resulting data bank listings are contained in three sections, each with a separate keyword breakdown for use in rapidly identifying references pertaining to a specific subject. All references cited in the OSDB were published prior to an established cut-off date of May 1, 1981, when a redirection of Bureau of Mines programs resulted in the loss of project funds and the subsequent phasing-out of data bank operations. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The oil shale data bank listings are the result of a team effort of the project staff. The contributions of Jimaleen Jansma for keypunching, information acquisition, and data entry, and John Brandenburg and Sandra rake for keywording and information acquisition are gratefully acknowledged. The El Pe±on gold-silver deposit comprises four epithermal, low-sulfidation veins, which contain 2.9 million oz Au and 48 million oz Ag. Provisional data on alteration mineralogy, fluid inclusions, and vein textures constrain the chemistry and hydrology of the hydrothermal system responsible for ore mineralisation at El Pe±on. Alteration minerals include quartz, adularia, albite, illite, smectite, calcite, chlorite, and pyrite. Alteration minerals suggest the existence of near neutral pH, low salinity hydrothermal fluids, which circulated over an area greater than 18 km2. Complex mineral zonation patterns result from variations in host rock permeability and composition, overprinting alteration possibly produced by thermal waters from surficial and peripheral parts of the hydrothermal system, and supergene weathering in the hyperarid environment. Upflow zones were focused along N-S and NE trending structures, producing crustiform quartz-adularia+carbonate veins. Fluid inclusion data indicate vein deposition from low salinity (

Daw Mill Colliery, UK Coal, near Coventry in England, mines the Warwickshire Thick Seam at 800 m/2500 ft depth using longwall retreat with gateroads supported by rockbolts. Over the last eight years the mine has worked longer and wider panels with extraction heights of over 5 m. Recently the mine has experienced high deformation conditions principally from the rib sides resulting in operational issues and production delays. Investigation of rib deformation was undertaken using new inspection and measurement techniques, including systematic laser surveying, and improved rib support consumables were developed and introduced. A new rib trussing system using textile webbing has proved very successful.. A rib support management system was also developed and introduced for face retreat. This allowed rib support to be more effectively managed both for production and safety. For the current developments, new 28-mm-diameter roof and rib bolt systems have been introduced and rib bolt length has been increased to 3 m, with the aim of achieving gateroad stability over the life of the panel. Significant reductions in roof and rib deformation have been confirmed by the latest monitoring results. These ground control innovations are allowing Daw Mill?s potential to be realised. Production from 302?s face in 2008 set new UK and European records. However the support enhancement process continues and further innovations are planned.

PRINCIPLES OF MINE PLANNING During the initial planning stages, all mining operations are analyzed and evaluated in a similar fashion. This similarity holds true because the mine-planning procedure can be reduced to a network of interrelated systems that are tied together by a common philosophy of mine planning: namely, that the resource is to be extracted in a manner which is safe, efficient, and profitable. The success of the mining operation cannot be guaranteed unless each of these three requirements is met. Fig. 1 shows a flowchart for the initial planning of any mining operation. Notice that there is a preplanning stage that leads to the planning of four interrelated systems. The preplanning stage includes property exploration, estimation of production and manpower requirements, and the establishment of construction timetables. The four systems, evaluated after the pre-planning stage, are broken down into the following: (1) Excavation and handling system, (2) Strata control system, (3) Operating support system, and (4) Service support system. The Excavation and handling system includes the selection of all the equipment for the removal of the resource from its in-place deposit (e.g., draglines, continuous miners, rock drills, etc.) and for the transportation of the mined material from the face (e.g., belt conveyors, trucks, etc.). The Strata control system incorporates all those considerations which maintain the integrity of the roof, ribs, floor, and overburden both during and after the extraction phase; typical considerations in this area include pillar sizing, artificial support of the immediate roof in mine entries, and subsidence protection. The Operating support system contains the "necessary evils" of mine planning; the system consumes a large percentage of the mining engineer's planning time but does not contribute to the actual extraction of the resource. However, if proper attention is not paid to the various components of the system, such as ventilation, drainage, and power, then the mining operation will not perform to its capabilities. Finally, the Service support system is composed of those operations which keep the mine running efficiently; typical examples of these include maintenance and sup- ply. One important concept that Fig. 1 is designed to emphasize is that the four systems are interrelated; typically, a slight alteration of one can affect the performance of another. If these interrelationships are ignored, the effects on the system can be disastrous. The mine preplanning stage and the four subsequent system evaluations constitute the Analysis portion of the mine planning flowchart. After this portion of the study is completed, the overall projected operation can be evaluated by techniques such as financial analysis. This last step in the study is referred to as the Synthesis of the previously calculated parameters into an overall plan. Much has been written about the overall evaluation of mining properties, but, over the past thirty years, very little has been written about the analysis of mine- planning systems in a coordinated manner. Further, those texts which attempted this topic have failed to give sufficient examples for successful implementation, thus supporting the operating engineers' lament that it is easy to discuss theories but difficult to show applications. This text is intended to bridge this gap. Examples of the various stages of the analysis portion of the mine planning flowchart shown in Fig. 1 will be covered in this text, with the exception of the Service support system, since this system is oriented more toward day-to-day planning than long-term mine planning. INTERNATIONAL STANDARDIZATION The benefits that can be derived from an international standardization of the units used in mining engineering calculations are numerous. The interchange- ability of equipment parts and the ability to analyze and compare performance and design specifications on an equal basis are just two of the goals desired by both manufacturers and mine operators. Unfortunately, conversion to an international standard has not been rapidly achieved by engineers in the United States, due to their training under the English system. The Society of Mining Engineers of AIME has made the commitment for the adoption of the Systeme International d'Unites (SI) in all mining engineering calculations. Since many practicing mining engineers and students in undergraduate programs still find difficulty in relating to SI units, the calculations in this textbook will use the English system, with Table 1 available for conversion into SI units.

The Gladstone Hill area hosts epithermal veins similar to those at Martha Hill, which is less than one kilometre away. There are several vein types in the Gladstone Hill area including (1) pyrite-marcasite, (2) quartz, (3) base metal sulfide, and (4) calcite. Pyrite veinlets formed first, whereas the quartz and carbonate veins formed later. The base metal sulfide vein occurs at depth and is predominantly comprised of quartz and chlorite intimately intergrown with pyrite, sphalerite, galena, and rare chalcopyrite. Platy calcite and massive calcite veinlets were the last vein types to form. Several vein textures occur in the Gladstone Hill area, including colloform and crustiform banding, lattice-bladed, zonal, comb, massive and feathery textures. Crustiform banded veins are the dominant texture and contain variable gold-silver grades. Colloform banded veins consist of ubiquitous quartz and minor chalcedony with gold grades as high as 60 g/t. The lattice-bladed texture forms from the deposition of calcite, which has been replaced in many samples by quartz, indicating that boiling and later cooling has taken place. Unreplaced platy calcite only occurs at deeper levels (>300 m). Zonal and comb textures are preserved in quartz and late-stage amethyst veins. Feathery textures within quartz are commonly associated with breccias and some colloform banding, and with significant Au-Ag grades.   The homogenisation temperatures (Th) of primary and secondary inclusions in quartz, amethyst and platy calcite range from 166 to 274¦C, with salinities <1.3 wt% NaCI equiv. The presence of vapor-dominated inclusions and primary fluid inclusions in platy calcite suggests that boiling occurred intermittently throughout deposition. The veins formed under a relatively flat lying paleowater table that occurred 280 - 300 m above sea level. The fluids involved in vein formation were alkali chloride in composition and low in CO2.

TBM case histories from over 400 tunnel sections are analyzed presenting a comprehensive application of the Rock Mass Excavability (RME) index (Bieniawski et al.2006). The paper introduces two new adjustment factors, called the Factor of Tunnel Length and the Factor of Crew Effectiveness, which were established to represent more realistically the interaction of the rock mass characteristics, the TBM parameters and the performance of the crew operating the machine. A new correlation is provided for predicting the average rate of advance of double-shield TBMs working specifically in the double-shield mode.

Codelco’s Salvador Project has been operating a block/panel caving mine for more than 50 years. This underground mining method dynamically mixes the ore and dilution. As a result, forecasting grades is difficult and achieving 100 per cent extraction of the reserves is practically impossible. A substantial volume of the ore mixed with dilution becomes remnant ore and remains to be subsequently extracted.A potential open pit mine is under evaluation at Codelco’s Salvador Project, which includes the extraction of remnant ore post-block caving extraction. An effective methodology has been implemented to estimate what is left behind once the underground mine has closed. A new mixing method using the Cellular Automata (Alfaro and Saavedra, 2004) approach has been used to allow estimation of the remnant ore with a sufficient level of confidence to be included as part of the open pit reserve.A remnant block model is created using elements such as in situ block model, drawpoint layouts, historical production records and the drawpoint extraction. Using this information, simulations of the extraction of the mine by month from 1959 to 2019 were completed, using different mixing scenarios and trying to replicate the tonnage and grade extracted.Finally, the remnant block model is categorised using a score card with four inputs to assess the risk of the estimation of this material into a category class (measured, indicated and inferred).CITATION:Villa, D and Farías, F, 2016. "This paper compares the behaviour of gold and ore in the grinding circuit of Hemlo Gold Ltd. Particular attention is given to grinding kinetics, classification behaviour, and liberation. For grinding kinetics, laboratory grinding of gold flakes and silica, 840-1200 um in size (14/20 mesh), was also performed to provide a standard for comparison and to study in a controlled environment the mechanisms of breakage, folding, smearing and impacting.Grinding kinetics were characterized at laboratory scale with breakage and selection functions. The breakage function showed that 75% of gold disappearing from the 840-1200 um class reported to the 600-840 um; this figure is much higher than for silica ( 46%) or most other minerals, and implies that comparatively fewer fine fragments are produced from the breakage of gold flakes, on account of gold's malleability. The selection function of silica was four times that of gold. At plant scale, the ratio of the selection function of ore and gold increased from 6 for at 50-100 um to 20 at 500-1000 um.Observation of original flakes and their fragments with the scanning electron microscope showed that the main mechanism of ""grinding"" from the 840-1200 um to the 600-840 um class was folding rather than actual breakage. This was confirmed by a measure of individual flake weight. The postulated breakage cycle is that relatively globular flakes become increasingly serrated through grinding; they can then regain their original shape through folding and reflattening into cylindrical and spherical shapes, as the majority does; however, some fragments will at this point undergo actual breakage. Photographic evidence is presented to support the proposed mechanisms.Smearing of gold unto silica was observed when silica was ground after a gold, and embedding of silica into gold flakes when gold was ground after a silica. Both mechanisms occur whenever gold and harder minerals are jointly ground, and result in ""unliberation"" of gold. It is postulated that smearing of gold onto other minerals plays an important role in explaining how gravity recovery can increase overall gold metallurgy, especially when used ahead of flotation.Classification of gold in the primary hydrocyclones takes place at a much finer cut-size than ore, 20 vs. 57 um. This and the slower grinding kinetics result in high gold circulating loads in the primary loop, 6700%, and a gold content in the primary cyclone underflow (PCUF) is twenty four times that of the ore. The gold size distribution for primary cyclone overflow is much finer than that of the ore, although they are essentially similar in the PCUF.Liberation, or more accurately ""gravity recoverability"", was assessed with a 7.5 cm (3"") Knelson concentrator. It varied between the thirties for the primary mill discharge and two cyclone overflows, to highs of 89 to 92% for the PCUF and secondary mill discharge, 89 and 92%, respectfully."

This paper describes all occurrences of barite in Arizona that were known or reported to the authors. The history, ownership, production, and geologic setting are discussed for most of the deposits. The uses and specifications of product grades are briefly discussed. Seventy-five deposits were examined in 9 of the 14 counties of the State. The descriptions are given under county headings. No occurrences were reported in the four northeastern counties of Coconino, Navajo, Apache, and Greenlee, nor in Santa Cruz in the southern part of the State. From about half of the deposits examined, 55 samples were taken; of these, 45 were for chemical analysis, and 8 larger samples, ranging from 100 to 350 pounds, for beneficiation tests. A 30-ton bulk sample was taken for pilot-plant tests. Bench-scale flotation tests of the eight samples employing several different procedures and reagent combinations yielded marketable-grade barite products with barite recoveries ranging from 60 to 97 percent. Five of the samples contained enough fluorspar to warrant its recovery. Acid-grade concentrates, which accounted for fluorspar recoveries of 45 to 70 percent, were obtained from three of these ores. Batch laboratory tests of a representative portion of the 30-ton bulk sample revealed that acid-grade fluorspar and high-grade barite concentrates could be recovered. Results of the laboratory and continuous pilot-plant tests of this ore will be presented in a separate report.

To remove hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in automotive exhaust by oxidation , a catalyst of 4.2 percent Uз Og , 1.7 percent Cr₂ 0 , and 1.7 percent CuO supported on 1 /8 - inch y- alumina spheres was tested in a reactor in place of the muffler of a 1 / 2 - ton truck . Tests were made with both nonleaded and leaded gasolines . With the engine at operating temperature , tests were made with the engine idling and with the vehicle cruising at 30 mph . Auxiliary air was added to maintain an oxygen concentration of 3 to 4 percent in the gas leaving the catalytic reactor . The vehicle was operated for 83 hours (about 60 percent of the time with the engine idling ) and 525 miles with nonleaded gasoline . Conversions of 98 percent of the hydrocarbons and 100 percent of the carbon monoxide were achieved with the engine idling and with 7,000 ppm carbon atoms and 4- percent carbon monoxide in the feed to the reactor . Hydrocarbon conversions of 75 percent were obtained at cruising speeds of 30 mph with a feed of 1,700 ppm carbon atoms ; the carbon monoxide concentration was less than 0.3 percent in the feed and was unchanged in passage through the reactor . Identical activity was obtained initially in switching to a gasoline containing 1.9 ml tetraethyl lead (TEL) per gallon . However, there was a gradual loss in activity thereafter . Conversions in tests with the engine idling about 50 percent of the time , had decreased by 23 percent for the hydrocarbons and by 25 percent for the carbon monoxide from their initial values after 122 hours and 1,300 miles of operation with leaded gasoline . The levels of radioactive materials in the exhaust of the reactor and the radiation in the vehicle were negligible .

"The manual moisture determination methods employed today by mineral processing plants falls short in providing timely information required for automation control. The costs associated with transporting and handling concentrates still represent a major portion of the overall treatment price. When considering the cash flow of a mining operation, that is governed by both the smelter contract, with moisture penalties and the quantity and quality of the concentrates shipped, an efficient method of on-line moisture content would be a welcome tool.A novel on-line determination system for ore concentrate moisture content would replace the normally tedious classic manual procedure. Since the introduction of microelectronic-based control systems, operators have strived to reduce the treatment costs to the minimum therefore a representative and timely determination of on-line moisture content becomes vital for control set points and timely feedback. Reliable sensors have long been on the “wish list” of mineral processors since the problem has always been that you can only control what you can measure. Today, the task of moisture determination is still done in the classical technique of loss in weight by uncontrolled procedures. These same methods were introduced in the earliest base metal concentrators. Generally, it is acceptable to have ore concentrate moisture content vary within a range of 7 to 9%. Many times, delays in manually achieving reliable feedback on the moisture content results in the moisture varying from 5 to 12% before corrective actions can be made.This paper first reviews the traditional and widely available methods for determining moisture content in granular materials by applying physical principals and properties to measure moisture content. All methods are in some form affected when employed on mineral ore concentrates. This paper describes a unique and promising on-line moisture sensor in two mineral processing applications, which not only automates the tedious tasks but also results in reliable moisture feedback that can be used in the optimization of the de-watering process equipment such as pressure or vacuum filters and fuel-fired driers. Finally, two measurement applications will be presented to indicate the usefulness and to summarize the measurement requirements for the proposed method of employing drag force and mechanical properties of the material itself to determine the moisture content."

Objective To develop safety training tools for mine safety and health trainers that can be used for both new-miner training and annual refresher training. Background For the past 3 years, NIOSH has been developing training materials for mine safety trainers in response to gaps identified during stakeholder meetings. Most materials have been directed to the hazards of underground mines, but the recent passage of Part 46 of CFR 30 required new-miner and annual refresher training in aggregate operations. One result was the identification of another audience needing basic information about safety in mining. Trainers characterized trainees in this segment of the industry primarily as young males, many of whom had little work experience. Approach Training specialists from the Arizona State Mine Inspector’s Office approached NIOSH researchers early in2002 about the possibility of a collaborative project to develop safety training materials for new trainees in aggregate operations. A preliminary search of MSHA accident statistics identified over a dozen common hazards that could be targeted in a training video. A storyline was developed for review by safety specialists in the aggregate industry, and a script was written to cover the selected hazards. Although the target audience was primarily new hires, the finished video was also to be relevant to more experienced workers.

At last year's. annual meeting of The Institute, Sir George Fisher, as President, compared it somewhat nostalgically with a meeting of its kind in the 1920s when comment was expressed on the decline of Australianmining and on the lack of new mineral discoveries.I feel that tonight's annual meeting is even more an occasion for nostalgia, for it represents the seventy-fifth anniversary of the founding of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. I hope, therefore, that I may be allowed to retrace some of the circumstances of this Institute's origin and at the same time to look at some of the broader happenings of those 75 years.From this distance in time it is, of course, much easier to get things in perspective and one of the things that compels enormous admiration in looking back over the history of our Institute is to note the qualities of foresight and keen concern for professional standards which moved the pioneers in this Institute. They had no benefit of hindsight to aid them.Just over 75 years ago, a small group of men met in Broken Hill to discus.s the possibilities of forming an association of mining engineers. The moving spirit was Uriah Dudley, our first secretary, manager of the Umberumberka mine at Silverton. The first formal move to form an association of mining engineers came from the Amalgamated Mining Managers Association of Australasia. At the time, this association was a fairly new group, being 5 years old.It had been formed to try to raise the standard of management throughout the industry. Uriah Dudley and our first provisional president, John Howell, held their first talks in 1891 and further meetings at Broken Hill followed. The inaugural meeting, attended by 200 members, was held in Adelaide in April, 1893.

"RÉSUMÉPour maintenir de bonnes performances technique et économique dans l’exploitation par chambres vides (open stope) il est primordial d’assurer un contrôle efficace des limites réelles des chantiers d’abattage. C’est pour cette raison que, de plus en plus souvent, les opérateurs miniers utilisent un dispositif de laser (Cavity Monitoring System: CMS) qui permet de mesurer les dimensions réelles de chantiers en vue de calculer principalement la dilution et les pertes du minerai ainsi que d’autres paramètres. Malheureusement, il n’existe présentement aucune méthodologie commune, qui permettrait d’interpréter ces résultats selon les mêmes critères pour faciliter d’évaluations juste et précise de la réalisation par rapport à la planification en vue d’en apporter de corrections, dans les différentes opérations minières, si nécessaire. Dans la première partie du présent article on discute les principales séquences d’exploitation utilisées dans l’extraction par chambres vides. Par la suite, à l’aide des sections transversales et longitudinales on illustre toutes les phases des travaux miniers. Ceci en vue de permettre au lecteur de comprendre mieux c’est qui peut se passer effectivement dans les chantiers d’abattage. Par après on donne les définitions générales de principaux facteurs de performance technique. Finalement, l’exemple numérique, élaboré à partir des résultats de l’arpentage au laser effectué par la mine Bousquet 2 dans un chantier d’abattage, donne les détails concernant les définitions ainsi que les valeurs de nombreux facteurs de performance technique, qui pourraient être utilisés, par après, par les opérateurs miniers dans le suivi de leurs exploitations souterraines."

THE information obtained by examining and analyzing the core drillings from 15 diamond-drill holes shows that with the proper equipment little difficulty should be experienced while sinking the shafts at the 15 selected sites. Although a number of holes penetrated formations containing a high percentage of silica,, the health hazard from dust can be removed by using proper dust-control equipment. Methane was detected in small amounts in only one (hole 5) of the boreholes. The methane hazard should present no difficulty if adequate ventilation is employed while sinking the shafts.

Greywackes of the greater Auckland Region (Brynderwyn Hills to Hamilton), when considered on a regional scale, have characteristic ranges of physical, mineralogical and other properties. Some properties (eg density, porosity, crushing resistance, clay index) generally cluster and correlate with the basement greywacke facies, regions and terranes recognised by geologists, and their diagenetic/metamorphic level. Other local factors, particularly variations in mineralogical composition, nature of matrix cement, grain size, and degree of weathering may produce aberrant properties. Some of these local variations, when extreme, have the potential to affect the aggregateÆs performance in roading or the concrete industries.   Smectite and the zeolite laumontite are the major deleterious minerals occurring in fresh greywacke rocks of the Auckland region, although weathered rocks may contain halloysite, an expanding member of the kaolin clay mineral group. These minerals, when found in abnormally high levels in greywackes cause expansion effects in the aggregate. Currently there are inconsistencies in the detailed correlation of shrinkage, clay index, clay mineral content and intrinsic expansion data that need further research to resolve them.

Recovery of Fine Gold Particles from Philippine Gold Deposits by Enhanced Gravity Concentration and Flotation The objective of the study is to determine the applicability of enhanced gravity concentration (EGC) and flotation for gold recovery. While gravity concentration methods have long been applied to gold ores, especially to free-milling types that requires minimal beneficiation, flotation for gold recovery has not yet taken hold as a major operation in the Philippine setting. In this study, the application of EGC and flotation for gold is applied and compared to the existing methods for gold recovery. Two samples, with assays of 7.315 and 5.333 g Au/MT (samples 1 and 2, respectively) are used for this study. These samples are subjected to mineralogical studies and is found to have a gold-particle size ranging 10 to 200 microns. To verify the separation size, the mesh-of-grind (MOG) is used as the primary parameter for experimentation. Initially, the samples are stage-crushed, ground, and subjected to EGC using a Falcon SB40 Concentrator. Based on the results, the two samples showed that recovery increases with a finer MOG. The ratio of concentration (K) decreases with a finer MOG. This shows that there should be sufficient liberation of the gold values for EGC to be effective. The effect of the enhancement is to pronounce the difference in specific gravity of the minerals, promoting better separation. This is validated by the high recovery values of 86.97 per cent and 98.73 per cent exhibited respectively for samples 1 and 2 (at 54 microns). For the flotation runs, sample 2 with an average particle size of 80 per cent passing 74 microns is examined using thiocarbamate-based collectors for roughing and subsequently exhibited a recovery of 96.32 per cent. At this point, the concentration ratio (K) is noted as an important efficiency indicator for flotation process since it yielded a very low-mass and high-metal content concentrate.

O aço 10B06 é utilizado na produção de fio máquina para trefilação. Por ser produzido em aciaria elétrica, o teor de nitrogênio desse aço tende a ser elevado, o que pode causar o fenômeno de envelhecimento, resultando em aumento de resistência e queda de ductilidade. Os dois principais fatores que influenciam na microestrutura e propriedades mecânicas do material são a composição química e o processo produtivo. A análise metalográfica realizada com Nital revelou microestrutura composta de 88% de ferrita e 12% de perlita, enquanto o reagente Le Pera identificou ilhas de martensita e/ou austenita retida (MA). Através das análises de raio x foi possível identificar a presença das fases a e cementita e manganês em solução sólida. A análise fractográfica mostrou que o modo de fratura observado no material foi dúctil, entretanto pequenas regiões de ruptura frágil também foram identificadas. Com o objetivo de melhorar as características de trefilabilidade do material, sugere-se a redução do teor de nitrogênio e consequente queda do boro adicionado, e/ou aumento da temperatura inicial de resfriamento do material, dificultando o enriquecimento da austenita em carbono e a consequente formação do microconstituinte MA.
